CONFESSION:
My cat was young when I started playing this franchise in 2013. He’s getting old now. He’s considered a senior. It doesn’t even seem that long ago. :(
Mod Note: Hey Confessor this is my cat.
I got him for Christmas along with Dragon Age Origins. He was a gift from my dad and brother. He has to take a Glucosamine supplement for some mild arthritis but other than that he's healthy for a cat his age.
We grew up with cats, dogs, and a lot of other pets. My late Dad had a cat that lived to be 29. When my cat was a kitten he would either perch on my shoulder or sit at his special place on my desk as I played Dragon Age Origins. He occasionally sleeps on my lap when I make confessions. And when someone is on the PS5 he is always hanging out and watching the TV. So I definitely understand Confessor. Time is fleeting. I tell my sweet boy I love him everyday.

🐾✨ Hey fellow dog lovers! 🐶💖
I just wanted to share a little gem I discovered for my fur baby—Nutramax Laboratories Cosequin Maximum Strength Joint Health Supplement! 🌟 If you’re looking for a way to keep your pup’s joints healthy and happy, this might be the answer.
Cosequin is packed with Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and MSM, all of which work together to support healthy cartilage and maintain joint function. 🦴 It’s especially great for older dogs or breeds prone to joint issues (I’m looking at you, Labs and Dachshunds!). Plus, the chewable tablet form makes it super easy to give—my picky eater thinks they’re a treat! 🎉
One of the things I love is that it comes in a big bottle with 132 tablets, so I don’t have to worry about running out too quickly. And let’s be real—nothing melts my heart more than seeing my pup jump and play without any stiffness or discomfort. 🐕💨
Have any of you tried Cosequin? What are your thoughts? Let’s keep our pups wagging and running like the joyful creatures they are! 🙌💕 Check it Now !

Most GP vets I know recommend glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate supplementation for dog at risk of osteoarthritis. They're both precursors to substances naturally found in cartilage, and the general claim is that supplementation reduces joint inflammation and protects cartilage from damage. Typically these are sold under the names Cosequin or Dasuquin. They're very popular with dog owners, and very commonly sold by both pet stores and vets.
I just went to a talk on osteoarthritis by an orthopedic specialist, and she claimed that these supplements were a waste of money, because they're not very bioavailable. The molecules are too large to make it through the GI system intact, and don't get to the joints where they'd be useful. So they're promising in vitro but aren't clinically useful.
So, rather than take her word for it, I looked it up. I found a 2017 literature review on the subject. Their conclusions are so frustrating that I want to quote directly from the article:
"Despite the trend towards more stringent criteria for veterinary nutraceutical products, the research community continues to conduct and publish novel, low-quality studies without consistent evaluation methods and varying products/doses...
These results are of questionable validity due to several trial shortcomings. First is the absence of therapeutic standardization. The sources of active ingredients, manufacturers of products, formulations, combinations of active ingredients, treatment doses, regimens, and durations of therapy differed significantly between trials. Second, multiple potential sources of bias were present in the trials, including the lack of a standardized follow-up timeframe, unexplained loss to follow-up, flawed study protocols, and incomplete data sets. Moreover, all of the clinical trials relied on subjective outcome measures to some extent, and the absence of standardized owner and veterinarian assessments increased the risk of bias in the reported results and diminished internal study validity.
The trials generally lacked peer review and were at risk of funding bias due to company sponsorship. Finally, there was an overall lack of generalizability of trial results. The trials were small in terms of the number of subjects used and subject baseline characteristics were not always disclosed...
Based on the available literature, the potential benefits of glucosamine and chondroitin use in osteoarthritic canines can neither be confirmed nor denied."
We are still so far behind human medicine in terms of evidence-based medicine...and human medicine is already worse than you'd hope. It's maddening. So in conclusion, I have no idea whether Cosequin/Dasuquin is helpful at all, and neither does anyone else.
#vet med#I. would like to go into veterinary research#but I have very little idea of how to do that as a tech

Likely my mom’s 16yo dog, Spot, is reaching severe stages of doggy dementia. Mom is coming to terms with the fact that it’ll likely be time to let her go within the next month.
We extended her life by putting her on The Farmer’s Dog food, which led to her eating again. We got glucosamine chews, painkillers, and CBD oil. The cats become her playmates and also extended her life.
Right now we have crusted dog food and dog shit on the floor all over, paper towels everywhere because she’s basically incontinent, and she tracks it everywhere. It’s gross and I’m too ill to help much with it and the friend we pay to clean the house had a kid stay home sick so she can’t come today.
The food issue is she has difficulty finding the food, pushes it off her dish and smushes it into the floor trying to eat it or she walks in it and tracks it all over. She wanders the house aimlessly and paces and won’t settle down, or she’s hungry and crying for food, or she’s lost and crying for Mom.
It’s going to be really hard on Mom. She’s literally had Spot since she was born, as we adopted Spot’s mom when she was pregnant and rehomed three of the puppies but kept one.
Edit: make that the next few days in terms of her rainbow bridge crossing. Mom decided it’s time.

Hello! I tried to search for my question but I wasn’t able to find a post about dogs specifically, so here I am. Feel free to yell at me if I missed it 🤦🏻
I have a big dog (husky/rott) who has hip issues, and I’m struggling to find ways to help him at home until we have the money to take him to the vet. (And until the vet has an opening x.x)
Do you know anything I can try to keep him more comfortable? He still walks and runs okay, he just has to stop much faster than he used to. We have doggy aspirin for when he’s hurting a lot and we’ve tried some glucosamine supplement treats, but I would like to help him be a little more active if I can and I’m not sure where to start.
Ask tax: the good boy in question :D his name is Trax
Hi, Sueanoi here.
I recommend against hard exercises especially on hard surfaces. Slow walk is nice. Swimming is even nicer, if you can find a doggy pool with a personnel who keep watch.
I'm not sure what kind of surgery your dog will get for the hips, but i find dogs with well developed leg muscles recover faster than those without.
Good luck for Trax!

Gather The Most Helpful Knowledge About Pet Diet And Nutrition
While supplements are beneficial, they should be introduced into your pet’s diet gradually and under the guidance of a veterinarian. This ensures that your pet receives the right amounts and avoids any potential interactions with their current medications or conditions.
Nutritional Completeness: Many dog and cat diets can lack specific nutrients. Supplements ensure that your pets receive a balanced intake of essential vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids, tailored to their unique health needs.
Joint Health: With age or injury, dogs and cats can suffer from joint issues. Supplements containing glucosamine and chondroitin support joint health, reducing pain and improving mobility, which is particularly beneficial for older pets or breeds prone to joint disorders.
Digestive Health: A healthy gut is vital for overall wellness. Probiotics and digestive enzymes promote a balanced digestive system, helping to resolve and prevent issues like diarrhea, constipation, and bloating. Products such as Total Digest from Lots of Love Pet Products are specifically formulated to support the digestive health of dogs and cats.
Immune Support: A robust immune system is critical in helping your pet fend off illnesses. Supplements that include antioxidants and vitamins like C and E can strengthen the immune response, offering an additional layer of protection against various diseases.
Choosing Quality Supplements
It’s vital to choose supplements from reputable sources to ensure they are safe and effective. Companies like Lots of Love Pet Products offer a range of supplements designed specifically for the health needs of dogs and cats, such as felo taurine and felo lysine ensuring that your pets receive high-quality products that are both safe and beneficial.
Supplements for Specific Conditions
Certain conditions require specific supplements:
Joint Supplements for Aging Pets: As pets age, their joints become less flexible and more prone to inflammation. Supplements with glucosamine and chondroitin can alleviate these symptoms, improving their quality of life.
Digestive Enzymes for Pets with Gastrointestinal Issues: For pets with sensitive stomachs, digestive enzymes can make a significant difference. They help break down food more efficiently, reducing gastrointestinal discomfort and improving nutrient absorption.
Omega Fatty Acids for Allergy-Prone Pets: For pets with skin allergies, supplements rich in Omega fatty acids can be transformative. They help soothe irritated skin and improve coat health, reducing the symptoms of allergies.
Conclusion
Pet supplements play a crucial role in the holistic health care of dogs and cats. They provide targeted nutritional support, enhance the immune system, and improve the overall quality of life for your pets. By choosing the right supplements from reputable brands like Lots of Love Pet Products, you ensure that your pets receive the best possible care, tailored to their specific health needs. Remember, a healthy pet is a happy pet, and with the right supplements, you can ensure that your dogs and cats enjoy a vibrant, energetic life.

Anyway I tried to start switching things up today
still wearing the brace
still on that nasty ass glucosamine
walked slower (naturally bc of the pain but mentally difficult bc I’m usually the obnoxious guy who NEEDS to pass everyone)
avoided stairs where possible (I only really cut out a fraction, there are a lot that just need to be dealt with like the ones to get to my apartment)
I still have too much damn pride or something to use the priority seats on the MRT but I think I’m worried about people like yelling at me bc they think I don’t belong there?? irrational, absolutely, but I also just hate feeling judged alsjdodoshdiso
I was in so much pain on the commute this morning I was late to work and I couldn’t even focus enough to like distract myself w my phone
Exhausted all day
Dreading having to walk the dog later rip I’m in bed again after coming home
I REALLY don’t think a doctor’s gonna be able to tell me shit other than I need to exercise more (I’d love to but EVERYTHING HURTS) and to lose weight (tysm I have an eating disorder) but it’s definitely on my radar bc ALL of you say I should go and I agree
I just have the HARDEST time executive functioning that but I’ll try to get something scheduled tonight
#I just hope I can get to the clerb this weekend bc I wanna celebrate my bday and I haven’t gone since Halloween and I keep staying home#bc of the pain#text#tian talks

*looks up 'can cats have peanut butter flavored treats'*
Google: Feeding your cat peanut butter regularly is bad for them *zero mention if a treat that happens to be peanut butter flavored and is actually mostly glucosamine and brewer's yeast.*
*looks up 'can cats have peanut butter flavored glucosamine treats*
Google: ONLY GIVE YOUR PETS GLUCOSAMINE IF YOUR VET TELLS YOU TO!
He did. For both the cats and dog since they're all getting older and need some supplements for their joints. The one we got says it's for use in both dogs and cats, but it comes in 3 different flavors. Now tell me if I can get them all peanut butter flavor since that's the dog's favorite or if I have to see if she'll like bacon or chicken flavor just as much.
Google: NO!

The Ultimate Guide to the Best Food for Dogs
Introduction
As responsible pet owners, ensuring the health and happiness of our furry friends is paramount. One of the key contributors to a dog's overall well-being is their diet. Just like humans, dogs require a balanced and nutritious diet to thrive. In this comprehensive guide, we delve into the world of canine nutrition, exploring the best food for dogs that not only tantalizes their taste buds but also promotes optimal health.
Understanding Canine Nutrition
Before we dive into the specifics of the best food for dogs, let's understand the basics of canine nutrition. Dogs, being omnivores, require a mix of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals for a well-rounded diet. The key lies in providing a balanced combination to meet their unique nutritional needs.
Protein Power: The Foundation of a Dog's Diet
Protein is the building block of a dog's diet. It aids in muscle development, supports a healthy coat, and plays a crucial role in various bodily functions. When selecting the best food for your dog, prioritize options rich in high-quality proteins such as lean meats, fish, and eggs.
Essential Fats: Nourishing From Within
Healthy fats are essential for a dog's overall well-being. They contribute to skin health, promote a shiny coat, and support cognitive function. opt for dog foods that contain sources of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, like fish oil and flaxseed, to ensure your furry friend's vitality.
Carbohydrates: The Energy Source
While dogs don't require carbohydrates in large quantities, they play a vital role as an energy source. Whole grains, vegetables, and fruits can provide the necessary carbohydrates without compromising nutritional value. Look for dog foods that incorporate these elements to keep your pet active and energetic.
Tailoring the Diet to Your Dog's Needs
Every dog is unique, and factors such as breed, age, size, and health condition should influence their dietary choices. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the best food for your dog based on their specific requirements. Whether it's a playful puppy, an active adult, or a senior companion, there's a perfect diet for every stage of life.
