i'm dying over that reveal. truly. truly. because on paper, the concept that ruby's mother was just an ordinary person and what made her so special was this belief everyone had feeding into her own mythology, creating something larger than life, is actually pretty cool. and, yeah, from wild blue yonder we know the doctor absolutely handed the power of suggestion over to an unknown entity that made it something tangible.. so it works.

The Pantheon of Discord | Doctor Who, The Legend of Ruby Sunday

adding onto this: the titles of the Pantheon seem to correspond closely with what they embody and how they embody it

the maestro embodies music but also wants to own and control all of, it, hence the "maestro" rather than the bard or the composer or the musician or whatever

the toymaker embodies games but is specifically fascinated by their origins (and also takes people to be part of his toyroom, hence 'making toys', in the EU at least)

if "the doctor" refers to an entity that embodies healing/fixing, their name specifically being "doctor" rather than "healer" or "carpenter" highlights an emphasis on healing/fixing people, not just healing life or healing nature or fixing objects. in fact "healing" may be too specific, it could just be "making people better"

There's also multiple ways of reading the title of "Doctor Who" in this theory! (Warning: crack theorizing incoming)

If you take the Kingmaker's explanation (the name coming from "The Doctor, Who..." e.g. "The Doctor, Who Did The Thing That One Time") then it's a title that conveys they are someone who takes personal action (as opposed to the other members of the Pantheon who are constrained by certain rules)

You could also take the "who" to mean "whoever", so "Doctor Who" means "A doctor for whoever", a doctor for anyone and everyone.

But, the one that might hold the most water is that the "Who" could represent how they can become different people through regeneration- "Doctor Who", because you never know who you're going to get. Oh, and what was the defining and mysterious trait of the Timeless Child...? Their ability to regenerate.

That's right, their title "The Doctor" just means they make people better, but their secret true title "Doctor Who" is what sets them apart from the rest of the Pantheon and universalizes them, both in-universe and out-of-universe. (It also removes the genuine article, which means that anyone could be Doctor Who; maybe even you!)

so i know this is probably all ramping up to the doctor being part of the pantheon/from outside the universe, with their function being to fix and heal (“doctor”)- but they also said “where i come from, everyone goes by titles” which…. not true! gallifreyan renegades & exiles went by titles, with some complicated exceptions (like drax, valeyard) -but i think it’s funny that all of these powerful mysterious new beings are going by work-related titles and the doctor isn’t the least bit suspicious like…. girl i know you can hear the non-diegetic music but can you see the foreshadowing

In reference to the theory I’ve seen going around that Ruby is secretly part of The Pantheon

The Toymaker= the living personification of games

The Maestro= the living personification of music

Both of them have the ability to warp reality specifically they often warp it to fit the rules of their respective concepts. The Toymaker makes the world run on the rules of a game, The Maestro makes the world run like a musical. And reality continues to warp around Ruby BUT it does so in very specific ways…

The space station adheres to the rules of a children’s story, the rules of time travel change to incorporate the butterfly effect based on stories she knows and coincidences or connections continue to pop up around her and the plot of a story is often built on connections, often coincidences that turn out to be anything but. So…

Ruby Sunday= the living personification of stories

I haven't been interested in how the pantheon of gods in recent Dr Who have been done, but I do like that Sutekh explicitly kept his Osirian origin story, and he became the god of death due to all his vortex exposure/tardis-jacking/whatever. Which means the Pantheon of Discord (to use the Trickster's name for it) isn't intrinsic forces of the universe, they're powerful entities who have gained some form of connection. I think the Pantheon of Discord is just some powerful aliens' discord server.

Absolutely living for the fact that The Toymaker FOUND The One Who Waits and merely said “It was someone else’s game”.

When what he meant was:
