thinking about how many times jack must've met / almost met the doctor out of order . do you think he heard about unit & their doctor in the seventies & thought he was about to be saved only to see a white haired man who had no idea who he was and a different nineteen year old blonde girl ? how many times do you think he followed a lead on a doctor only to see someone completely unfamiliar to and with him ? stranded on earth with only one way out except the one way out has the most messed up timeline you've ever seen .

rewatched boom town. thinking about torchwood era jack harkness, after having waited for 136 years on earth, finally hearing the whirring of the tardis, seeing it appear above the torchwood III hub, thinking that after so many years, finally, he can see the doctor again...

only to realise that he can't; not yet, because he's already there. that version of him long past, soon after first meeting the doctor and rose, before satellite five.

he's cursed to watch from afar for 12 agonising hours as another version of himself gets to experience the doctor, and the tardis, and rose. meanwhile he's locked out, aware of the consequences if he were to run out there and make himself known, but tempted to do it all nevertheless.

his pain when he hears the tardis trilling again as it leaves, feeling like he missed his chance and knowing he could wait another century before the doctor returns again. left to clean up the mess from the rift, like always.
