If they had a kid for Eowyn and the beloved Moon Boys? 🩷
*bonks me for putting off introducing Eowyn and waiting for a special date* now no one has any idea what she's like, including myself bc she went through so many transformations oop-
I think they'd have three kids? the current version of Eowyn wants a big family in the happily ever after (yes I am aware that marvel doesn't do those but let me be sappy pls), and I think Steven Marc and Jake could be convinced?? not sure though, but here's the oldest!
Name: Mateo Westley Grant Lockley Spector
Gender: cis male, he/him pronouns
General appearance: curly black hair, oversized jackets, sunshiny smile, hunches a bit so he always looks smaller than he actually is, a crescent-shaped birthmark on the upper left part of his back, emotionally attached to a pair of scuffed-up sneakers
Personality: a cinnamon roll that, while can’t murder, could send someone to the ER when pushed, shy and doesn’t like to talk much, stays up late to finish a story no matter how long, poet coded
Special talents: deciphering codes and secret messages, picking up languages, throwing a mean right hook
Who they like better: Jake, he's thought of as The Cool Dad, much to the annoyance of Marc and Steven and the amusement/exasperation of Eowyn when one of them starts arguing at the mirror
Who they take after more: Steven, when he’s behind the wheel, the two of them just completely nerd out about some obscure knowledge that none of the other three understand
Personal headcanon: Khonshu once implied that he wanted Mateo to be the next Moon Knight, the second he said that, Jake’s fist was sailing through the air, much to Eowyn’s confusion when she saw him punch thin air but cheering him on nonetheless
Face claim: Xolo Maridueña

an extra hc: being left on medical leave means mateo has plenty of time to get up to trouble on meridian and the nexus — and he finds that time wandering around the evergrowing nursery, plus helping with waking the younger travelers. with his more hands on and adventurous personality, the kids usually adore him.
talis has babies named after her for her efforts, but she’ll never be as charismatic as a recovering mateo playing hide and seek with kids newly woken from the cryo bay.

Little soulmates
Mapi León x Ingrid Engen x pregnant!Reader
summary~ After going through IVF with the loves of your life you get pregnant. They are nothing but supportive, helping you with everything. When the boys are born they look just like your lovers.
Tumblr media
The three of you have always had a baby wish. Looking at Mapi playing with the kids of your friends and Ingrid sitting with a sleeping baby in her arms made your heart warm. They would be perfect mothers.
Both Ingrid and Mapi played football but you didn’t. They were in their prime time so the most logical thing was for you to carry the baby. You were still young, you 21, Ingrid 25 and Mapi 28. You didn’t want to wait. You’ve found your soulmates. Luckily you didn’t want to do anything but that, carrying a child of your lovers was something magical.
You agreed to do IVF, choosing a donor that looked a bit like both of them. Brown hair like the Spaniard, green eyes like the Norwegian and freckles like both of your lovers.
The doctors said that you shouldn’t get your hopes up, the first try almost always doesn’t work. But that was hard. Both of your girlfriends were there when they did indeed told you that the first attempt had failed.
They were there when you cried in the doctors office, when you were silent on the ride home and even when you cried yourself to sleep between the two of them.
Ofcourse they were heartbroken too but they needed to be there for you. You were going through hormonal changes and that made you feel things. The only thing they could do for you was be there. So when the morning came and you woke up, they were there. When you tried again, they were there.
And eventually, when you got pregnant, they were there. Mapi was absolutely over the moon, hugging you and kissing all over your face. Ingrid couldn’t help but smile at the silliness of Mapi and kissed you on your head. “We’re gonna have a baby!” Mapi cried and ran across the room to her phone, calling her mom.
While Mapi was telling her mom the news Ingrid kissed you over and over again. “I can’t believe we’re gonna be moms, y/n i love you so much. I can’t believe it.. A mini Mapi or you!!” she hugged you. “Or a mini Ingrid.” you laughed.
Just when you thought Mapi couldn’t get more excited you got the news that you were having twins. She was switching between jumping around the room and kissing you stomach all while Ingrid hugged you from behind and kissed your cheek.
Later on you got the news that it was twin boys. You didn’t really prefer one sex over the other so the three of you were happy. Ingrid started searching for names immediately.
She really liked Noah and Theodore while Mapi loved the Spanish names Mateo and Hugo. You still had a few months to go so you didn’t really got into the whole name thing, you decided that that was up to your lovers unless you thought the names were ugly.
When you reach your second trimester the three of you decided to tell the team. Ingrid and Mapi couldn’t wait to tell them so when they finally could they were beyond excited.
It was a Tuesday afternoon, just after training when the team got called into the canteen. Mapi took it as her responsibility to tell everyone. “Hola chicas! Both of my pretty girlfriends are here as you can see. The reason for that is because one of them is carrying my two sons!” she yelled. “Our two sons!” Ingrid corrected.
The whole team came flying towards you. But before anyone could get near you Mapi stopped them protectively. “She’s carrying our bebés so be careful!” she warned them.
You knew it was time share the news with the rest of the world, you couldn’t hide your pregnant belly much longer.

Halfway through the pregnancy you really started to feel the effects that it had on your body. Your whole body was sore, the cravings you had were just weird and those moodswings… Both of your girlfriends tried to help you in any way possible. Mapi massaged your feet while Ingrid tried to massage the knots away in your shoulders. When you were craving something again, even at night or very early in the morning Ingrid would drive to the store to get it to you as soon as possible.
The moodswings however were harder. Whenever you were watching a movie, your head on Ingrids chest while Mapi traced paterns on your stomach. You couldn’t help but cry at the sad scene on your television. “Hey hey.. amor, why are you crying?” Mapi would ask you. You shook you head and answered “I don’t know, i just can’t stop crying.”. Ingrid and Mapi would share a smile and comfort you until you felt better.

Mapi was so proud and wanted to show you off to everyone while Ingrid just wanted you to herself. Ingrid knew that it wasn’t long before everyone wanted to see you and their baby’s so she wanted to enjoy every single moment.
While Ingrid cherished every moment and every bit of you, Mapi couldn’t keep her hands off you. She had always loved your ass and tits but now that you’re pregnant she loved them even more. When you walked next to her she made sure to have a hand on the small of your back and eventually a little lower so it rested on your ass. The Spaniard also loved to cuddle you from behind, taking your tits into her hands.
Ingrid loved your stomach, the idea of one of her girlfriends carrying her babies made her so proud and happy. Your taller girlfriend also loved to hug you from behind, taking your belly into her hands, lifting it up for you and holding some of the weight. She knew you liked it so it only made her happy to do it for you, even when her arms started to cramp.
You were 37 weeks pregnant pregnant when your water broke. It wasn’t the most ideal moment. Your girlfriend were playing the el classico, one of the most important games of the season.
It was the 76th minute, you were talking to Alexia, Jana and Frido, since they were injured. It was then that you felt the wetness. You looked down but couldn’t really see anything because of your round belly.
Jana was the first one to notice and went straight into stress mode. “Oh my god! Y/n your fucking water just broke, what are we doing?” she asked you. You looked up at Alexia who was sat with wide eyes. She needed a moment to process it all but came to her senses eventually.
“Jana you need to find Jonatan. Frido and I will take y/n to my car and drive her to the hospital.” she ordered. Jana went running onto the field and told Jonatan the news.
Both of your lovers had joked about you delivering the twins while they were playing a game but you told them that that wouldn’t happen. But you were wrong. Ofcourse they wanted to come out now.
Alexia carried you to her car and went straight to the hospital. She sped through traffic and you’re impressed that she didn’t cause a crash on the way.
Arriving at the hospital Alexia and Frido ran out of her car and into the hospital. You thought that they’d forgotten you and they probably did. But Frido came back with a wheelchair. She put you, still dressed in your Barca jersey and soaked trousers, in the wheelchair.
Before you knew it you were in a hospital room already. The doctors were asking you questions you couldn’t even answer, you needed your girlfriends. Where were they?
The door flew open and there they were, the two stressed faces of your lovers. Ingrid ran to you and kissed your head, asking you if you were okay. Mapi just stood there, in complete shock. You could see the sweat on her forehead, she looked like she’d just seen a ghost.
“Maria Pilar Leon, i’m pushing your kids out so help me out here!” you yelled. That took her out of her trance and she stood next to you, holding your hand.
It was painful and hard but with Ingrid and Mapi by your side it was a little better. Ingrid kissed your forehead and combed through your hair with her hands. She was whispering encouraging words and telling you it would be alright, like she always did.
Mapi was another story, the women was beyond stressed. The colour had drained from her face and she was shaking, you were not sure if that was because you were gripping her hand so tightly or if it was just that she was about to see her boys.
It was about five hours later when your first baby decided to arrive. Mapi fainted and Ingrid started crying happy tears. They placed the first boy in Ingrids arms since Mapi wasn’t really available.
Minutes later, when your Spanish lover was with you again, the second boy arrived. The baby was placed in Mapi’s arms and you couldn’t help but smile at the sight. There they were, it was perfect. The loves of your life holding your babies.
Later when everyone was a bit more stable Alexia, Jana and Frido came in. Alexia started crying and hugged Mapi telling her how happy she was for all of you. Jana sat next to you and told you all about the game and how Mapi and Ingrid reacted to the news. Frido walked over to Ingrid who handed her one of your sons.

After two days in the hospital you finally got to go home. Mapi was driving, you in the passenger seat and Ingrid in the back with the boys. You’ve never seen Mapi drive so slow. You giggled at the memory of Mapi driving way over the speed limit just months ago. The brown eyed women noticed this and asked you what you were thinking about. “Just how you’re so careful ever since i got pregnant. You’ve really gone full mom mode.” Ingrid laughed at your remark. Mapi looked in one of the many mirrors she installed over the last few months “I’ll never let anything happen to any of you.”.
Your two footballers got a few weeks off and spent every moment with you and the boys. They loved walking the boys around the city, showing them everything even though they didn’t really pay attention.

Theo was a little angel, just like your Norwegian lover. He was always sleeping, even smiling now and then. Mateo on the other hand was just like his other mommy. He didn’t want to sleep, was very clingy and loved to roll his eyes. Even though the two of them were complete opposites they were really attached to each other.

Even though you had carried them for almost a year, the twins started to look more like your lovers by the day. Not only on the outside but on the inside too. They were surprisingly tall for their age, just like Ingrid, they have Mapi’s hair and their faces were just the two faces of your football players combined.
When they were two they really started to get into football, always kicking a ball around the house, even when you told them not to. They ran onto the field after every game, wanting to play with their tías. They were destined to be footballers.

[4:38 PM] Oikawa Toru [8]
A long-awaited chapter, thank you for being patient with me. Happy March everyone.
Warning: angst & hurt, smut
Seventh part Nineth part
.
“Teo, when do you think Y/n would be back?” Toru asked his son who was busy suckling his four fingers. He was drooling incredibly the last couple of days, having to go through three or four outfits in one day.
At the sound of Y/n’s name, the baby looked up and his eyes searched the room.
“She’s not back yet, but her appointment is taking longer than expected.” Toru sighed in disappointment. Even though he saw her about two hours ago, he missed her.
Not just physically…
He chuckled to himself, feeling like a teenager all over again.
He’s having the most sex in his life in the last couple of weeks. Toru believed he may have a problem.
A problem of not being able to keep his hands off of her. Or from being inside of her.
It’s astonishing how quickly they’ve grown close in such a short span. While it doesn’t compensate for the time that slipped away between them, he had a lifetime ahead to make amends, forging new memories to replace the lost time.
For a while, he bore the weighty burden of fearing that Y/n might find being with him and Mateo overwhelming, prompting her to consider leaving. However, with each passing day, she unwittingly reassures him that she desires him, that she wants to be with the both of them.
His heart fills with warmth witnessing their togetherness. It nearly overflows when strangers compliment them on what a beautiful family they make.
That’s his deepest desire – to create a loving family with them.
“Feeling tired? Ready for a nap?” Toru inquired, observing Mateo’s yawn and weary eyes. Lifting his son, he reached for his blanket, attempting to swaddle Mateo in the manner Y/n usually does, but finding it challenging. “One second…” he coos as Mateo begins to whine, fighting against his father.
Toru steps back, hands on his hips as he lets out a frustrated sigh while Mateo is wailing at the top of his lungs. He is never like this with Y/n when she puts him down for a nap…
“Okay, okay,” he coos, picking his son up and rocking him. He grabs the blanket and Mateo immediately grabs it, hugging it tightly. He calms down but continues to fuss.
Something clicked in Toru’s head as he walked into his bedroom picked up one of Y/n’s worn shirts out of his laundry basket and brought it close to his son. He remembered reading that babies were sensitive to scent.
True to the theory, Mateo immediately clutched onto Y/n’s shirt and calmed down.
With a loud sigh, Toru continued to rock his son who soon closed his eyes and napped.
Carefully, he laid down on his bed with his son on his chest. Closing his eyes, he figured he might as well take a nap too with this son. After all, it’ll make time go by faster until Y/n returns.
.
Y/n opened her eyes, alerted when she heard cooing and nails clawing at her jaw. “Hey you,” she smiled at Mateo who woke up from his nap.
After her doctor's appointment, she took a long walk along the river to clear her mind.
“W – what?” Y/n uttered.
To the doctor’s suspicion, she had no idea. She inhaled and exhaled deeply before repeating herself, “you are pregnant, Y/n. Did you not know?” She looked down at the piece of paper with all her messy scribbles. “Earlier when I was asking you basic questions you told me that you noticed how you had a lack of energy, just physically tired and napped more than usual?” Y/n stared at her with a blank stare. “When I conducted your physical examination you flinched when I felt for any abnormal lumps in your breast and you noted that your breasts have been sensitive lately?”
And she was embarrassed that her doctor had seen the red hickies on her chest that were left from Toru.
“Yes,” Y/n barely whispered, “I remember.” She swallowed, she didn’t know why it did not click prior but now everything was beginning to make sense. “Are you sure I’m pregnant? I didn’t have any morning sickness. Isn’t that a clear indication that someone is pregnant?”
The doctor shook her head, “no, not every woman will experience morning sickness. Some women don’t experience until a little further in their pregnancy.” She can see the distraught patient before her, handling the news she was not expecting to hear. “I know you were not expecting this news at all. I can’t let you go until I’ve known you’re okay to leave.”
Y/n swallowed again, leaning forward onto her knees and covering her eyes.
“How… how far along am I?” Y/n finally asked after a few minutes of silence.
“We will have to do an ultrasound to get a better idea of how far along you are. Do you remember the last time you had your period?”
Y/n grabbed her phone and checked her application which tracked her period. Her breath hitched as she realized she had not been logging her period for two months, going on to three months.
She had completely overlooked it as she was occupied with her sudden lifestyle changes with Toru and Mateo.
She squeezed her eyes shut and muttered, “can I get an ultrasound done today?”
As she lay on the padded bed waiting for the nurse, Y/n has never felt so alone before.
Her hands were placed against her lower abdomen, she still could not believe that she was pregnant.
She was joyous at the news yet she was terrified.
When the technician came in and performed the ultrasound, she spoke softly, making all Y/n’s worries and doubts fade.
Y/n paid close attention to the technician’s words, and finally, she tapped on the screen. “Here they are,” she said excitedly, pointing to the circle shape on the screen. “There’s your baby, Ms. Y/L/n.”
Tears pooled in her eyes as she covered her mouth. She couldn’t take her eyes off her baby.
The joys and excitement she felt all disappeared when the nurse spoke, “I believe you are roughly eight to nine weeks along, but that’s not a definite answer…”
Y/n did the math in her head if she was more than eight weeks along… there was no doubt that the baby she was carrying was Woojin’s.
Y/n spent almost an hour sitting on the bench and staring blankly at the river.
“What happens now?” she muttered to herself.
She had just found a safe place, a home with the man she had been hopelessly in love with.
Yet now she is pregnant.
With another man’s baby.
Burying her face in her hands, she leans over her knees and groans.
When she returned home, their units were quiet. Dropping off her bag on the couch, she heads to Toru’s room, finding the two of them sleeping soundlessly.
She needed them, that was all she needed.
Carefully she crawled over and laid behind Toru, her arm slipped around his waist as she buried her face against his broad back.
“You’re home.”
Yes, she was home, home to Toru and Mateo. Y/n nodded, tightening her arm around his waist. “I’m tired too.”
Chuckling, he rests his hand over hers, intertwining their fingers together. “Okay, let’s nap together.”
Mateo’s slobber against your cheek brings you back to reality.
“Ahh Mateo,” Y/n giggled, picking up the baby. “Is that a kiss?”
The baby laughed brightly at her question.
“Oh awesome, you both are up,” Toru stood at the doorway of his bedroom wearing an apron. “Just in time, I finished cooking dinner.”
“Dinner already?” Y/n stood up with Mateo on her hip, walking towards Toru. She pressed a kiss to the corner of his lips but Toru was quicker and turned so their lips met. Y/n smiled and pressed another kiss against his lips. “I missed you.”
Toru’s smiled, “I missed you too.”
. .
Toru was no fool, he knew something was bothering Y/n.
Over dinner, he mentioned the unexpected visit from the building management. They had come to assess the damage, and the following week, a construction crew will be handling the repairs.
But it appeared that the conversation had entered one ear and exited the other. She seemed distant during dinner, raising concern for Toru.
He could discern from the graceful movements of her fingers on the piano keys that the piece she played was infused with deep emotions, as if she were pouring her heart and soul into the music notes, expressing everything through her melody.
He sensed that something had occurred during her visit the moment he felt her snuggle against his back. The way she embraced him, as if fearing his disappearance, and the trembling of her hand indicated that something had frightened her or weighted heavily on her mind.
Y/n’s finger hit the last note, ending the piece she played.
Toru could hear her soft exhalation, soft yet heavy.
He approached her from behind and gently gripped her shoulders, squeezing them in a massaging manner. “Are you… okay?”
Y/n nodded before tilting her head back to look up at him, “I love you.”
Toru’s breath hitched, these were the three words he had been eagerly awaiting from her.
He feels his life is completed, having Y/n by his side, and hearing her true feelings for him.
Y/n rose from her seat, perching on the piano bench, her height still a few inches shy of his. Tenderly, she cradled his face and leaned in to share a kiss. “Toru,” she mumbled against his lips, “make love to me… make me scream your name…”
Any other time, he would have loved to make her scream his name but something didn’t feel right. He was about to protest when she begged, “please, Toru… I need you to take my mind off it …”
His arms wrapped underneath her backside and lifted her, carrying her in the opposite direction of his bedroom. “Let’s go to your room, that way you can be as loud as you want.”
Surprisingly, Toru has never been inside Y/n’s room before. He led them blindly to her room as Y/n distracted him with kisses.
“I love you,” she murmured repeatedly.
Chuckling, Toru couldn’t contain his smile, “I know, I love you too.” He set her down on her feet and began undressing her, first with her jeans and then reaching for her shirt. His fingers found the clip to her bra, undoing it and tossing it aside. He dropped to his knees, lips trailing down her belly until they reached the elastic part of her panties. His eyes are at direct eye level with her abdomen and for a split second, he stares at her belly.
Y/n’s breath caught. As she looked down from her perspective, uncertain if her eyes were deceiving her, she noticed a subtle bump.
“Let’s take these off,” Toru whispered, tugging down her panties. “Be a good girl and get on your hands and knees on the edge of the bed.”
Spinning around, Y/n got on her bed that she had not slept on for a while and got into the position. She could hear him taking off his clothes.
Without warning, he slams into her. Y/n had to brace herself as he pounded deep and hard. “Yes!” she moaned loudly. “Harder!”
Toru increased his speed and density, slamming his hips against her and causing the room to echo with only their flesh slapping. A sense of greed and selfishness overwhelmed him, and suddenly, a possessive feeling took hold. Y/n’s subtle indifference earlier was making him anxious. Did something happen? His mind began to conjure up all possible worst-case scenarios.
He had to grasp onto her; if she harbored any doubts about him and his son, he was determined to do whatever it took to sway her thoughts. They needed her.
Toru wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her up and hugging her tight against his body. He continued to rut into her, needing her desperately.
“Love you… I love you so much, Y/n…” he nipped her skin at her shoulder. His teeth mark embedded into her delicate skin.
“Toru! Toru, oh God… I’m close… please…” Y/n turned to look over her shoulder. She pressed her lips to his, “cum inside me…”
He knows he shouldn’t but his body acted on its own accord. Y/n permitting him to cum inside her was all he could think about. His arms wrapped tighter around her as if to keep her forever next to him.
Y/n clenching around his cock and whimpering brought Toru over the edge as he came. His hips tremble and spasm as he ejaculates.
His head drops onto her shoulder as he tries to catch his breath.
In an instant, his ears perked as he heard something that twisted his heart. “Y/n?” He released his hold around her, withdrawing before turning her around to face him. His eyes widen, “what’s wrong?” He shifted in front of her and cupped her face, searching for an answer. “Did – did I hurt you?”
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she gasped, shaking her head. She buried her face in her hands, sobbing uncontrollably.
Toru pulled her into his arms, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry if I hurt you… if I scared you…”
Y/n continued to shake her head, unable to speak a word as she cried quietly.
Feeling completely hopeless and useless, he only continued to hold her, murmuring sweet words to her.
After what felt like an eternity, Y/n eventually eased her turmoil. Her hands lay on his bare chest, sensing the rhythmic beat of his heart beneath her right palm – a sensation she wished to experience for the entirety of her life.
She loves this man. She loves Oikawa Toru.
“You don’t have to tell me what happened,” Toru whispered gently, pressing his lips against her forehead. “But if I am the reason behind those tears, all I ask is that you let me fix it… whatever I did… please – “ his voice choked, “I promise that I will never make you cry again…”
Y/n pulled away from his arms and sat up, at some point, Toru had laid them down on her bed. She looked down at him and reached to brush his hair away, “it is not you, Toru.”
He wished to trust her, yet a part of him still clung to the belief that he was still the reason behind her tears.
“The truth is…” Y/n took a deep breath, squeezing her eyes shut for a brief moment. “I am pregnant.”
Toru sat up abruptly, his voice faltering at her statement.
Her head bowed, and he sensed her shame. “I… I don’t think it’s your baby.”
. . .

Month 3
The small cracks and imperfections on the ceiling have become memorized as you lay on your bed feeling miserable for the hundredth time this month. Ever since you found out you were pregnant about a month ago, you have had a serious case of morning sickness.
You've been critically bored since your OB/GYN recommended bed rest during your morning sickness. And knowing Miguel, he followed the doctor's recommendation exactly, making you stay in bed or couch most of the day.
"Here, mi amor." Miguel handed you a plate of chicken nuggets and green beans. Ever since you cooked Mateo chicken nuggets weeks ago and tried one, it's the only thing you haven't thrown up. Your nose scrunches up at the site of the green beans. One thing you hated, or the baby hated, was vegetables during your morning sickness.
"You need to eat something healthy. Just please eat some of them." Miguel pleaded with you as he sat down next to you on the bed and continued working. He's been staying home most of the time to handle household duties and Mateo.
"Well, it's your baby that's making me not like them. But thank you for the food." You pout as you eat your food. Miguel chuckled at your comment as he looked at a mission report.
After you forced yourself to eat the green beans, which from Miguel's perspective was a comical sight as you made a face every time you took a bite. But half an hour later, as you leaned against Miguel for comfort as he wrapped an arm around your waist, you felt a sudden surge of nausea. But instead of rushing to the bathroom, you sat there, not needing to vomit, as your eyes grew wide in shock.
"Oh my god, I think my morning sickness is improving." You cheer as you look at Miguel with a big smile. He turns to you with the same smile as he kisses your forehead. "I'm glad to hear that, cariño."
"Now I don't have to be on constant bed rest! Finally! Maybe I can even go back to work? Not for missions, of course, cause I know that would practically give you a heart attack if I did. But at least doing some desk work?" You are pleased with Miguel. One good thing about dating the leader of Spider Society was that you didn't have to worry about missing work. But the downside, too, is that he's the leader.
"Alright, fine. Of course, I miss you at HQ, but you know why I stress about you being pregnant in such a dangerous environment." Miguel looked at you as his eyebrows furrowed and a pout on his face. He was worried for you and the baby. And you understood where he was coming from.
You cup the side of his face as you gently brush your thumb across his cheek to ease his worries.
"I know I'll be safe since you will be there to protect me. And you built Spider Society from the ground up. You know it's safe."
"But what if an anomaly broke out and hurt you both. I'll never forgive myself." Miguel continued to worry.
"Miggy, I'll be fine. I'm Spiderwoman too. Plus, if Jess can be pregnant and still do her full job, I can do mine too." Your words finally reassured him as he smiled down at you and kissed your lips lovingly. You get up from the bed to Miguel's disappointment as he wants to continue holding you in his arms. But his disappointment was quickly replaced with joy as he saw your small baby bump as you walked into the bathroom to get ready.
Today was the day that you and Miguel would reveal that you were pregnant to your friends at Spider Society and later in the day with your family.
Miguel, in his own way, was excited about the reveal to your family. But he was slightly annoyed to tell the teenage spiders and the others. Like, tell Jess. But making a thing out of it. It was 100% your idea. But since he loves you and you were his world, he didn't mind the cheesy pregnancy reveal.
The two of you went through the portal after you both were ready as you walked to Miguel's office. As you entered, you saw Jessica watching the monitors with the rest of the gang, Peter B. MayDay, Hobie, Pavitr, Ben, and Gwen.
"Y/n! We missed you! Where have you been?" Said Pavitr as he jumped down from the platform. He was helping to look at the monitors before he came to you for a hug. You happily returned the hug, ensuring he didn't feel the baby bump.
"I've been busy with some things in my universe. So I wasn't able to come to HQ this past month." You say.
"Will you be coming back?" Asked Gwen as she also came up to give you a hug. Ever since you've been back to hq since being back with Miguel, you have become a big sister/mother figure to the teenage spiders.
"I am." A big smile appeared on your face; you couldn't fight the urge to hide the surprise. Miguel saw the look on your face and chuckled, a small smile appearing as he wrapped an arm around your waist and brought you to his side.
"Wow, something must be up if a boss man is smiling like that." Hobie chuckled, noticing the change of demeanor between the two of you. You look up at Miguel as you smile up at him. He smiled at you and gestured towards the group of curious spiders with a slight move of his head.
"Hey Peter, I'm so sorry we missed Mayday's 1st birthday, two weeks ago. Here's a gift for her." You say as you hold out a spider gift bag. Peter walked over with the adorable Mayday in his arms, who was babbling to herself.
"Aw, that was sweet of you. Thank you for the gift. Look, Mayday Auntie Y/n and Uncle Miguel got you a gift." Peter said the last sentence in his baby voice as he opened the bag for her. He grabbed an adorable spider kitty stuffed animal, which made Mayday squeal in excitement. Peter handed her the stuffed animal, and she hugged it.
"I'm glad she loves it. There is actually one more gift in there for her. It's a surprise." You smile as Peter searches through the bag to find the other gift. He drops the bag as he takes out a shirt for Mayday. He looks up at you and Miguel with a shocked and happy look.
"Oh my god! You guys!" Said Peter as he hugged the both of you.
"What's going on?" Asked Ben Reilly, who was speaking everyone else's mind. Peter turns around from hugging you and Miguel as he shows the shirt to the rest of the spider gang.

Spider-Baby Duo!
"Omg! No way!" Gwen cheered as she jumped for joy and hugged you again. "Congratulations!"
"Another spider, baby! I can't wait to meet the little bundle!" Pavitr jumped for joy. Jess jumped down from the platform with a big smile on her face.
"Congrats, you two." Said Jess as she hugged you two.
"Thanks, everyone. We just wanted to tell you the reason for my recent absence. But I'm happy to return to work after my painful month of morning sickness." You smile from all the excitement as you glance up to see Miguel with a smile on his face enjoying it too.
You so badly wanted to tease him for showing he enjoyed telling your friends at Spider HQ. But you decided to tease him when you returned home to save him from the embarrassment of the other spiders teasing him. Though you would miss his ears and cheeks going red.
After talking and celebrating with everyone for a bit longer, you both had to return home to pick up Mateo. You wait with Miguel outside the school as you see the kindergarten class run out of the building. A familiar little curly-haired brunette with the most adorable face as he came running to you.
"Mama, you cane to pick me up!" Mateo hugged you as he jumped for joy to see you.
"Of course, sweetie. Mama feels well enough to drop you off and pick you up from school with Papa." You say as you hug your baby boy.
"Can you hold me, mama?" Mateo asked as he tried to jump into your arms. Miguel swooped in as he grabbed Mateo and lifted him into his arms.
"Wow there, papito. Remember, no roughhousing around Mama. She's caring your brother or sister in there. But I can carry you."
"Okay." Mateo pouted as he looked down at the ground, which hurt your heart. You look at Miguel as he looks back at you with a sigh knowing what you were asking of him.
"Come here, Mateo." You open your arms as Miguel hands him to you. It had been a while since you carried him, so you noticed the weight change.
"Yay!" Mateo smiled as he wrapped his arms around your neck and rested his head on your shoulder.
After getting to your new apartment, a penthouse in the same area as your old one, Miguel paid no expense to a lavish, not two, but six-bedroom and four-bath apartment. When Miguel originally told you about the listing, you thought it was too big for a family of four. But he said he wanted to buy a bigger place when you had more children. You lightly glared at him as you were already suffering from the current pregnancy. Of course, you didn't admit to him that you would want to have one or two more children. Two keep it an even number, of course.
When you found out you were pregnant, you both began to look at apartments. Of course, you had completely forgotten that Miguel's part-time job at Alchamex gave him very deep pockets. You insisted on paying as much as possible. Still, Miguel insisted on paying it himself, saying he wanted to give this to you and his children as a gift.
When you both finally agreed on a place, you moved in almost immediately, so you didn't have to worry about moving when the baby was born.
Two hours after you got home, you and Miguel made sure the house was ready for your family to come over, mainly your sister, her husband, kids, and your parents.
It was just your family as you and Miguel went to his universe to tell his brother Gabriel and mother Conchata the news. You had met them many times before, six years ago when you were dating Miguel. After Miguel moved in three months ago, you brought Mateo to visit his paternal grandmother and uncle, who adored him. Now you go at least twice a month to visit. Of course, the last time you went a week ago, you had revealed to them your pregnancy which they were both very happy about.
As you got your last earring on, you heard the doorbell ring. As you walked to the door, Mateo rushed by you. "Let me get it!" You chuckled as you saw him rush towards the door.
"Be careful, sweetie. Don't run." You smile as he opens the door revealing your sister, her family, and your parents.
"Hi!" Mateo half-yelled as he jumped up and down as his aunt and cousins walked in. Your niece and nephew run off with Mateo to his room to play, not before giving you a hug.
"Heyy! I've barely seen you this month! I've missed my little sister! Where's Miguel?" Nora walked in and gave you a hug.
"He's in the kitchen. He'll be-speak of the devil." You chuckle as he walks into the main family room as he walks to your side. "Hey, Nora, Luke." Miguel smiled.
"Do you guys want a drink? We have red, white, or something stronger." You offered.
"What are you having?" Asked Nora, which made you almost ruin the surprise, but you remembered the white grape soda juice that you bought from a winery a while back for Mateo. But you decided to use it tonight. Just to trick your sister and parents for a bit.
"Just a white wine. Hey, mom, dad. I've missed you." You hugged your parents. "Hi, sweetheart. It's good to see you." Said your father as he hugged you.
After settling down and catching up with everyone, you made sure the kids were in the living room with everyone else. Miguel grabbed two thin boxes and handed one to your mom and your sister.
"What is this?" Nora looked at the wrapped box with a confused smile on her face. You smiled wide. As you watch, your sister and mother open the tops of the boxes. Within a few seconds, you heard your mother gasp, and your sister scream in surprise.
"Omg! I'm going to be an aunt again! Congrats, you two!" Nora got up from her seat and hugged you.
"Congrats, sweetie." Your mother said as both she and your father also got up to congratulate you and Miguel. The kids all jumped excitedly to have another kid coming to the family to hang out and play with.
Month 4
You were in your fourth month of pregnancy, and despite it only being your fourth month, you felt like you were in your sixth for how big you felt. God, why did you have to have a baby daddy who could be characterized as a giant.
As you tried to put on one of your bras, you couldn't get the clasp to close. When you finally did get it clasped, your breasts were threatening to pop out, which, within seconds, they did. You groaned in frustration as you threw the bra on the ground.
Your damn breasts have gotten too big because of your pregnancy. You didn't think you would need to go to a maternity clothing store since when you were pregnant with Mateo, you didn't need to get maternity clothing. But guess every pregnancy is different.
You walked to Miguel's closet and grabbed one of his sweatshirts and a pair of your sweatpants. You glared at yourself in the mirror, not liking your lazy outfit choice.
Arms wrapped around your waist as large hands rested on your swollen belly. Your pout turned into a smile as you looked at your boyfriend through the mirror.
"What's wrong, Hermosa?" Miguel left kisses up
your neck to your cheek to help cheer you up.
"I don't fit into my clothes anymore because of this baby. My belly has gotten larger, my breasts too." You pout. You missed your curvy figure.
"I think you look beautiful, amor. And your breasts look like they were sculpted by god himself."
You turn to face him, and he keeps his arms around you and kisses you lovingly.
"How about I take you to buy some new outfits tomorrow?" You smiled at Miguel's kind gesture as you reached on your toes to kiss him. "That would be amazing. Thank you for offering."
Miguel fell on his knees, putting his hands on your belly as he smiled. You gently combed your fingers through his dark brown hair as you gazed at him lovingly and watched him whisper sweet things to your unborn child.
A tang of guilt etched into your heart as you didn't give Miguel the experience to do this when you were pregnant with Mateo. But you were happy to be able to give him the experience with both of your second children.
A gasp escaped your lips as you pressed your hand over Miguel's, as he looked up at you with concern. You look down at Miguel with a huge smile.
"It was the baby. I felt them move."
Month 5
It was a sunny day at the beach. You relaxed in your beach chair with a cup of lemonade in your hand as you enjoyed the sun's heat.
You take out your phone and choose a song from your playlist, resting it on your stomach for the baby to hear. The ocean view was gorgeous, but the site that caught your eye was Miguel with Mateo, who helped his son find shells and sea glass. It was a mission for you and the baby.
Mateo wanted to make something out of the shells and sea glass he would find on the beach. It made your heart glow as you saw Miguel bond with his son, holding the shells, rocks, and sea glass in his hands as he followed Mateo's lead.
After a few more minutes of watching them, you noticed them returning.
"Mamma, I collected so many pretty shells! Papa will show you! He was holding them for me while I collected them." Mateo ran over to you a few strides behind him, Miguel, who sat down in the chair next to you as he grabbed a container Mateo brought and put the shells and other pretty beach objects in there. He then passed it to Mateo to show you his favorite shells.
"Those look really pretty. I can't wait to see what you create with them!" You tell Mateo as you listen to story to each shell he shows you. You smile when you feel Miguel place a kiss on your cheek.
"How are you two doing?" He asked as he took your hand in his and kissed your knuckles.
"We're both doing good." You smile as you place the hand you held on your round belly. Suddenly both your eyes widened as you looked at each other with large smiles.
"Did they just?" Miguel smiled wide as he rested the palm of his hand on your belly.
"I know! They kicked! They only seem to do that when they can hear your voice. Guess we know who will be their favorite parent." You let out a chuckle as you watch Miguel move his hand on different places of your belly, where you would then find a light flutter in the area, which meant the baby was kicking.
"Come here, Mateo. Do you want to feel your younger sibling kick?" You ask your son as he gets up from his spot on the beach towel in excitement as he comes to you. You gently take his hand and place it on your stomach. As soon as you did, Mateo giggled as he felt the baby kick.
You were happy that your family was already getting love from your unborn baby. Still, you internally pouted as you felt left out. As if your youngest child read your mind, you felt them kick where your hand was placed as you whispered back to your round belly, "I love you too."
Month 6
Miguel was running errands all over the place for the gender reveal party. Though he thought it was a bit cheesy, you loved the idea of having one, so he ensured the party would be perfect.
He set the cake down on the dining room table. Half of it was blue, and the other half pink. Once the cake was cut, you would see if the cake was pink or blue.
You walked in with Mateo after picking him up from school. Miguel smiled when he saw you as he wrapped an arm around you and kissed your lips lovingly.
"Sorry I couldn't be there to pick up Mateo with you," Miguel said as he scanned his surroundings. The main living room was filled with pink and blue decorations. You gently touched his cheek and caressed his face, which he loved.
"You don't have to apologize for anything. You had errands to run for the party, which looks amazing. Thank you, Miggy." You lean up and kiss him again, which Miguel happily accepts.
"When do we find out?" Asked Mateo as he played with one of the balloons.
"When everyone arrives and is settled, we'll announce it." Says Miguel as you both chuckle at your son's excited attitude as he jumps around.
Another hour passed as you made sure all the snacks and drinks were out on the dining table when you heard the doorbell ring. Miguel kissed your cheek as he walked to the door and opened it revealing your spider friends in casual clothing holding baby gifts.
"Y/n! Oh my god, look at you. You're glowing!" Jess smiled as she hugged you. "Here you go. Something for the baby." She handed you a bag.
"Aww, thank you. Miguel and I can't wait to open it. If you are hungry or want a drink, there’s some snacks and champagne on the dining table. How's your baby boy?"
"He's doing good. Keeps me and hubby up late at night. But I still love him to bits despite the sleep deprivation." Jess chuckled as you walked over to the dining table to set down the gift with the others; you picked up a stork-shaped cookie. You picked up two cause your hunger this month has increased tenfold.
"These are cute." Said Gwen as she came up to you both and picked up one of the pinkish-blue cupcakes. "Thanks for inviting me, Pavitr, and Hobie. We can't wait to meet the baby! Oh here! This is a gift from all three of us. We hope you like it." She hands you the bag as you hug her in thanks before putting it on a table.
"I'm sure we'll love it." You smile lovingly at her. Those three teenage spiders were so adorable.
You let Gwen go back to mingle with Hobie, Pavitr, and Jess with your sister, who had arrived with your parents and her family not too long ago.
You were about to take a bite of one of the cookies when Miguel wrapped his arm around you from behind and pulled you against him as he grabbed your cookie and took a large bite out of it. Your jaw opened in shock before a pout was placed on your lips. "Hey, that was mine." You see him smirk as you take the rest of the cookie and take a bite out of it. Miguel chuckled as he kissed your cheek.
"I know. I just wanted to see that cute pout on your face, amor." You purse your lips into a smile as you playfully roll your eyes.
"Do you want to do the reveal?" Miguel smiled down at you. Your eyes brighten as you smile, starting to feel the excitement bubble up inside you; you nod.
"Hey, everyone! It's time!" You say in excitement as you try to stay calm but fail horribly. Miguel looks at your overjoyed attitude and smiles lovingly at you. You really were the light of his life.
Miguel grabs the plate and knife as you hold the knife with him. You both turn around and cut into the cake to make a slice. As soon as you lift it up, you smile brightly at Miguel as he looks down at you with the same happy expression. You both turned around and showed off the slice of cake to everyone.
It was pink.
Month 7
You took a deep breath as you sat down in a chair and placed a hand on your large belly. You tried to distract the feeling of your stomach tightening with the sounds of kids' laughter.
You opened your eyes to see your now six year old son running around with his friends at the arcade.
"Hey, are you okay?" Georgia touched your shoulder as she looked at you in concern.
"I-I'm fine. Just feeling some cramps." You give her a reassuring smile before you feel another stomach cramp. You grab your water bottle as you take a sip of water.
"Are you sure, y/n? Aren't you having contractions? I'm going to get Miguel." Georgia said as she was about to walk away before you grabbed her arm.
"It's Braxton hicks. I-I'm fine. I've had them before. If you tell M-Miguel, he'll take me to the hospital. It's Mateo's birthday. I don't want his special day ruined because the baby got in the way." Lauren approached you as you tried to convince Georgia not to get Miguel.
"The kids were asking when to cut the- y/n? Are you okay?" Lauren gazed at you with concern.
"Y-yep. It's Braxton hicks. No need to worry. They'll p-pass." You reassure Lauren as you try to stand up. It takes you a second, but you manage to stand up. "Let's cut the cake."
"Y/n, are you sure it's Braxton hicks? When I was pregnant with Simon, I went into early labor. But I thought it was only Braxton hicks. Maybe you should go to the hospital to be safe." Lauren gently guides you to Miguel despite your protests, but Lauren was more stubborn than her wife, Georgia.
She walks you over to Miguel, who is talking to a few other parents; his gaze turns to you when he notices you coming towards him. Miguel's smile was quickly replaced with a small frown as concern grew when he saw Lauren help you walk over.
"Is everything alright, cariño? Is it the baby?" Miguel brushed some of your hair behind your ear. You would explode if one more person asked you if you were alright.
"Y-yes. It's just Braxton hicks. I-I'm fine. Let's just cut the cake."
"How long have you been feeling this way?" You lightly glared at Miguel, knowing he would take you to the hospital no matter what you said. He sent you the same glare back.
"30 minutes." You tell him.
"How far apart are they?" You roll your eyes.
"Like 30 seconds. We're not-"
"I'm taking you to the hospital." Miguel gently placed his arm around your waist as he was about to lead you out.
"Miguel, no, we are not leaving our son's birthday. I'm fine. I can wait until after the party is over." You close your eyes, feeling another cramp. You sit down in a chair in protest.
"Amor, I'll carry you to the hospital if necessary," Miguel said as you both had a stare down. You take your phone as you call the doctor's office.
"To ease your worries, I'll call the doctor." Miguel nods, admitting defeat as you put the phone to your ear.
"Yep, Doctor says it's Braxton hicks." You say to Miguel. He holds out his hand, asking to talk to the doctor. You roll your eyes as you pass him the phone. After a few minutes, he hung up the phone as you arch your eyebrow.
"Yeah, alright. It's Braxton hicks. I wanted to see if you weren't lying just so I wouldn’t take you to the hospital." You smile at him in victory as he rolls his eyes playfully with a smile and kisses your cheek.
Miguel calls for the kids saying it's time for cake. Mateo sits with his friends at the table, jumping in his seat excitedly. You get your phone out and start a video as everyone sings happy birthday.
Tears brimmed the corners of your eyes as Mateo blew out the candles. You couldn't believe he was already six years old. You remember when he was just a baby sleeping in your arms.
"What did you wish for, Mateo?" Asked Simon, Mateo's best friend.
"I wished for my baby sister and me to get along. And I wish for a Nintendo Switch." Said Mateo, which made your heart glow. You felt as if an invisible weight was lifted off your shoulders. Mateo was excited to meet his baby sister.
You couldn't wait to meet her too.
Month 8
Your due date was in three weeks. In three weeks, there will be an infant in your home. It was a Friday night, and Mateo had a playdate/sleepover after school, so you didn't have to worry about picking him up until morning.
It was also a day when Miguel had to go into HQ to work, to his annoyance as he wanted to be home just in case the baby came early. You assured him you would be fine. Since he left, you have been in the nursery, ensuring everything was perfect before the baby came. You learned from one of your many pregnancy classes that what you were doing was called nesting. When you first learned about the term, you thought it was ridiculous. But now that it's happening to you, it wasn't so silly.
It was 1 am when Miguel got home. He expected you to be asleep in their bedroom, but when he noticed a light in the nursery, he went to check it out. And there you were, sorting through diapers, clothes, and other baby products. You were facing away from the door while folding baby clothes on the changing table.
You felt Miguel wrap his arms around you and place a kiss on your neck. But you barely noticed as your mind focused on ensuring you were ready for the baby's arrival.
"It's very late; you should head to bed." His words fell deaf to your ears. Miguel pouted as he turned your head and kissed your lips lovingly, which broke your trance.
"Oh, hi, Miggy. When did you get back?" You say as you go back to folding.
"A few minutes ago. Amor, how long have you been doing this?"
"When did you leave this morning?" You asked.
"Did you rest at all? Did you eat or drink anything?" Miguel asked, concerned for your well-being. You paused for a second, trying to remember what you did, but your mind went blank.
"I guess not." You say as you take the folded clothes and move to the set of drawers you put them away. Miguel follows you as he takes the clothes from your hands and puts them on top of the drawers.
"You need to rest."
"I will when I'm done." You gasp when Miguel picks you up bridal style and carries you to your shared bedroom. He then set you down gently on the bed.
" I love you, but sleep." He commanded as he kissed your cheek before getting ready for bed and getting into bed with you.
When the lights were off, and you thought Miguel was asleep, you carefully got up and out of bed and returned to the nursery. But of course, as soon as you walked into the nursery, Miguel was right behind you, giving you a small heart attack as he picked you up and returned you to bed.
This time when you both got into bed, he placed his arm around you so you wouldn't escape. You pouted up at Miguel as you both lay in bed. He kissed you on the lips before turning off the lights again.
"Buenas Noches, hermosa. Go to sleep."
Month 9
It was a week before your due date. And any day you could burst.
You woke up feeling fine this morning, and you and Miguel began your weekly morning routine with Mateo as you walked him to school. It happened after saying goodbye and walking a block from the school.
Your water broke. At first, you didn't 100% know what happened, but as soon as it did, you felt an unbearable pain in your stomach. It was a contraction. As your mind was finally coming to terms with what was happening. You registered that you were in labor. And your baby girl was coming today.
At your side, Miguel picked you up in his arms as he quickly returned to the apartment and grabbed your go back for the hospital. He then put you in the car and rushed over to the hospital.
Before you knew it, you were in a hospital gown with Miguel holding your hand, nurses all around you, and a doctor ready to deliver your child as they coached you through the contractions.
Even with the epidural, you still felt some of the pressure of the contractions, which were still painful. Time didn't feel real as you tried to push the baby out. It was your second time. Why did it feel like you had never given birth before? Your head rested on Miguel's shoulder as tears fell down your eyes.
"I-I c-can't. I'm too tired." You sob out loud. Miguel pressed his lips to your forehead. He hated seeing you in pain. It tore at his heart. He wishes he could remove the pain to make it easier for you.
"You got this cariño. You can do this. Five more minutes of pain for a lifetime of happiness." Miguel's words of affirmation brought some hidden strength inside you as you gave it one final push. And you were done.
You laid back against the hospital bed in tears of joy and relief when you heard the cries of your daughter.
"Mi amor, you did amazing. Thank you for bringing our baby girl into this world." Miguel kissed your head as a tear rolled down his cheek. He was overcome with joy as were you.
"Congratulations." Said the doctor as she passed you, your little bundle of joy in your arms. Tears began to pool in the corner of your eyes as you saw your daughter for the first time.
"Hi there." You say in a baby voice as you kiss your daughter's forehead. You see her move slightly in your arms. Even though she was only a few minutes old, you could see the strong O'Hara features she shared with her brother and father.
"What name have you chosen for her?" Asked one of the nurses.
"I was thinking of the name Mariana." You look at your baby girl before your gaze meets Miguel's. You could see his heart glow in his eyes as he looked at you in surprise as tears brimmed the corner of his eyes.
"Gabi's middle name?" Miguel said out loud to you.
"To honor her big sister." You say to Miguel as a tear falls down his cheek. The biggest smile spreads across his face as you gently give him your newborn daughter.
She was so tiny in his arms. Some of her features reminded him of Gabi, as he held his newborn daughter in his arms and gently kissed the top of her head. He smiled at you as another tear rolled down his cheek. "Mariana is perfect for her."
"Mariana Catalina L/n O'Hara."
Three Months Later
The sound of your daughter crying on the baby monitor instantly woke you up. Looking at the alarm, it was 2:15 am. She was hungry.
You were about to get up when Miguel touched your shoulder and kissed your neck. "Don't worry, amor. I'll get up. You go back to sleep."
Miguel stood up from the bed and walked out of the bedroom and towards the nursery. As he entered the room, he picked up his wailing daughter. "Shhhh, it's okay, Princesa. Papa's here." Miguel whispered as he cradled her in one of his arms as he walked to the kitchen to grab his daughter her bottle.
Within a few minutes of being in his arms, she calmed down as she cooed and giggled as she looked up at him with her big brown eyes.
He walked back to the nursery as he fed her. He rocked her in his arms after he finished feeding her. He could see her not falling asleep immediately, so he began singing her a lullaby.
You heard Miguel begin to sing to your daughter through the monitor. You got out of bed, unable to resist seeing the adorable sight in person. You quietly walk to the nursery, lean against the door, and watch Miguel lull your daughter back to sleep.
"Hush, little baby, don't say a word; Papa's going to buy you a mockingbird..." You hear Miguel sing.
Your heart melted at the sight. A memory you will always keep forever close to you. Once Mariana returned to sleep, he gently kissed her forehead before settling her back in her crib. You gently walked up to him as you both watched your daughter sleep.
"I thought you were asleep?" Whispered Miguel to you as he wrapped an arm around your waist.
"I couldn't resist not seeing her adorable face." You whisper back as you gaze lovingly at your daughter. "I can't believe it's already been three months since we brought her back from the hospital." You add.
"I know, it's going by too fast," Miguel said as he led you out of the nursery and back towards your bedroom. “We could give Mariana and Mateo another brother or sister in a year or two." Miguel added.
"Funny joke." You look up at him wide-eyed as you lightly chuckle.
"No, cariño. I'm serious."

"Hi girls" y/n said as they entered the locker room. "Hi honey" Alexia said, giving her a kiss on the cheek as the other girls looked at Alexia and y/n suspiciously. While changing out of her street clothes into her workout clothes Claudia says "how about some beers at the bar downtown" "for the day off" to which most agree except y/n.
Alexia looks at her funny and asks "why can't you go?" "because I'm meeting my sister I'm going to take care of the kids while she does some extra hours at work" y/n's sister is a doctor at the Vall D'hebron hospital. Alexia nods, not very convinced but she knows about your love for children, especially your nephews, so she doesn't say anything. "Any problem with that my love?" you say. "no none, i miss them".
The training session goes by, more exhausting than the others 'maybe it's because of the sun' you thought. When patri comes in, scoffing, she says "when are you and Alexia going to get married?" "I don't know, when she proposes" you say in a funny way but hoping it will be soon.
Hours later at home with the little ones
"Ruppert don't run down the stairs you might fall" you said to your 5 year old nephew while you were putting 6 month old Augustine to sleep in the living room. "tia y/n/n alexia said to go upstairs to play mario bros" "well kid but you don't have to run, because you fall down there and what do we do eh" you say between angry and joking giving the little one a hug. "Babe, let Ruppert climb up to beat Mario," says Alexia, teasing the boy. You laugh and let him climb up.
For Alexia these moments are worth gold, she visualizes herself married to you, living in a villa in Castelldefel with a couple of kids running around in the yard and you teaching them how to play soccer.
The next day your sister picks up the kids around 11 am. You spend the day cuddling with Alexia at home, watching movies and eating dirty food.
Wednesday came and with it the training. There was Irene with little Mateo around, so I went straight to play with the little one while the girls finished showering. I must admit I'm a little picky because I always have to shower first. While I was playing with Mateo I heard Crnogorcevic says to Alexia "can you imagine when you and y/n have babies running around the house" "you don't know how excited I am about all that, seeing one or two little ones running around the house" "soon we will have another little one to play with mateo eh alexia" you panicked while playing with mateo. How could Alexia take it for granted that you want children if you haven't talked about it. That made you very angry. First of all because even though you like children and you are fond of them, you can't imagine being a mother, even less with your tight schedule and the constant trips you have, secondly, you are afraid of what pregnancy entails and even worse, you are afraid of hospitals. You'll have to talk to her, you thought.
When you get home you decide to talk to her.
"hey ale, I overheard a conversation in the dressing room today and I swear it was unintentional" you said. "Oh yeah, what did you hear?" said Alexia in a relaxed way "you were talking to Ana about kids and stuff, taking for granted that I wanted to be a mother" "Of course I want kids with you y/n, you are so good with the little ones and the only person I see in that future is you" "look Ale, I will be very honest with you, because we have been dating for about 4 years now and I just don't want, it terrifies me, to have kids, a human being under my responsibility. I said it a few years ago and I stand by it, I don't feel like having children with anyone" you said that a little bluntly. "You think after four years together it's time to say you don't want to have children? what's wrong with that? You are very good with it, even your nephews adore you and see you as a second mother" she says hysterically. "I'm sorry Ale, a little late yes, but it is what it is, I don't think I can change my thinking at some point" you said starting to feel weird, like out of place. "you know something y/n, I think I can't spend years of my life wanting something next to a person who can't be more flexible with that, I can't want to marry you when your plans and mine are different. I think it's better to break this thing we have and look forward with no hard feelings or anything" Alexia said sadly. "Why, what do children have to do with what we have created as a couple" "I just see myself with you, without children but with you" you said in tears. "You don't understand, I want to share my achievements with my FAMILY, with my descendants, with my children, so that they can see that their mothers were successful women and that they can follow the path. I don't want to be left with the legacy alone, you understand that, I want after this whole soccer thing is over there is something else to focus on." "You're being a bit selfish Alexia, you can't want children for such invalid reasons" you said crying, watching your life you thought you had figured out go down the drain. "selfish you y/n, you who are not at the same stage as me, you who prefer partying, traveling, alcohol before me as a partner and family" alexia said raising her voice. "You have no idea what you are saying" you said hurt. "y/n get out, get out of my house, I can't believe you threw all the plans we had out the window".
You left the house angry, sad, hurt and you did the best thing you could do, you called the only person who understands why you don't want to have children. The English captain, your best friend Leah Williamson. But since not everything can be so easy, that night while you were driving something happened...

Note: Charlie, the doctor, uses they/them pronouns.
Warnings: mentions of stitches, implied past non-con, mentions of violence
In the field, he was Techmaster. At base, he was just Theo.
“I can do my own stitches,” he protested.
“Are you a doctor?” asked Charlie. They tugged the suture line.
“I’ve done plenty on myself before.”
“That still doesn’t give you an M.D.”
Theo knew a losing battle when he saw one. “How’s Laith?”
“Stable,” they said, tying off the knot. “He’ll live.”
He hesitated.
“Just between you and me,” said Theo, voice going low. “Nightclaw forced him into sex.”
Charlie paused. “I can’t run any testing without consent, but I’ll do a check for active bleeding.”
“Thank you.”
___________________
Theo scrolled through the information, bank records, auto registrations, and “donations” filling the screen.
He could see the reflection of Mateo hovering behind him. He wasn’t as subtle as he thought he was.
“What?” snapped Theo.
“Just checking on you.”
“I don’t need to be checked on.”
Mateo, known as Guardian to the public, stepped down onto the floor. “Right. What are you working on?”
Theo sighed, the swivel chair turning slightly as he slumped in his seat.
“Laith’s court transcript at sentencing doesn’t match the audio recording. The recording matches his memory, but the transcript doesn’t.”
“So he really was sentenced to thirty years?”
Theo turned abruptly. “You were listening in?”
Mateo sheepishly rubbed the back of his head.
“What did you hear?” he demanded.
“Everything,” admitted Mateo.
Theo turned back to the computer, guilt swirling in his gut.
“I won’t say anything,” he promised. “I won’t tell him I know.”
“Good. He wouldn’t take it well.”
There was a pause. Mateo leaned over to look at the screen’s text.
“What do these have to do with our case?”
Theo highlighted a section of text. “See this deposit? It’s from a brand new account, into a certain court transcriptor’s savings. And these luxury cars went to a series of prison guards. And a generous donation to a judge’s cancer foundation. I doubt that it actually made it into the charity’s hands.”
“So Nightclaw got the records changed. And paid off everyone who would notice.”
“Exactly. He didn’t want anyone looking for Laith. Even Wikipedia edited the listed sentence a couple years later, citing the transcript, and news channels and papers made revisions to match.”
Mateo whistled low and long. “Impressive. So what do you want to do?”
Theo rubbed the bridge of his nose. His eyes were getting dry from staring at the screen.
“I don’t know. The timing of the bribes suggests he was in prison for at least a little while. I’m tempted to just forget about it. Time served and all.”
Mateo nodded. “I’d do the same. Thirty years is ridiculous.”
“Knock knock,” called Beatrice from the doorway. She was in her armor, which was unusual considering the down time.
“Hey,” said Mateo, turning. Theo raised a hand in greeting and kept working. He was attempting to hack into Nightclaw’s system, but it was slow going.
“You should be resting, Theo.”
“I am resting. I’m sitting down.”
“Uh huh. Did you learn anything while you were with Nightclaw?”
Theo pulled up the file they had on Nightclaw’s current plans. It was pitiful, just a few lines of text.
“Nothing important,” he admitted. “Just that he’s more sadistic than we guessed. Oh, and he has a new model of power dampeners. They deliver shocks, but they’re easy to pick if you aren’t the one wearing it. I’m sure that will change soon.”
“I heard about the burns on our prisoner,” said Beatrice, her reflection on the screen nodding.
“He’s not a prisoner. He didn’t do anything wrong.”
“That we know of,” she pointed out. “It could be a ruse.”
“I don’t think so-”
“It isn’t-” said Mateo and Theo at the same time.
Beatrice shrugged. “If you say so.”
Theo turned around in his chair, leaning forward, shoulders tense. “He wasn’t working with Nightclaw willingly. He was a slave, Beatrice.”
She looked at him, her gaze steady. “Are you certain?”
___________________
Laith sat up in bed, wiping away his furious tears. Shame and disgust flooded him. What he wouldn’t give for a hot shower.
The door opened again. He tucked his head into his knees. He didn’t want to see Techmaster again.
“I thought I told you to go away,” he muttered, bitter.
“Not that I’m aware of,” said the person, voice light but deadly.
He looked up.
Warrior, the warrior, looked back at him, her green eyes as intense at the rest of her. Her armor was gold with red details, sleek and more intimidating up close than the news broadcasts made it seem.
To make matters worse, she was wearing her helm and her staff was in her hand.
She never stabbed anyone with the blade on top, allegedly, but it looked razor sharp.
Laith froze.
Warrior strode forward, towering over him. She must be at least six-foot-three.
He couldn’t help but tremble.
“Tell me about Nightclaw.” Her tone was like a suggestion, but it was phrased as an order. He knew better than to challenge her.
“What do you want to know?” he said, resigned to an interrogation.
Warrior tilted her head, her long blonde hair shifting. She looked him up and down, cataloging his injuries.
“His plans, obviously.”
Laith’s blood ran cold.
“I don’t know the specifics,” he said. “Just that he wants power. World domination, the usual.”
Warrior raised a brow. “Everyone knows those things.”
“I really don’t know his plans. If I could tell you I would.”
“Would you?” she challenged.
“I- what do you want from me?” he protested weakly. “I was his plaything, not his strategist.”
“Tell me about that, then.”
Laith squeezed his eyes shut. “Please don’t make me,” he whispered.
Warrior could probably crush his bones with two fingers, but he had to try.
He heard the sound of metal clinking, and he cracked open an eye. Warrior had collapsed her staff until it was just a dagger, and she clipped it to her belt. She took off her helm, and sat on the end of the bed, holding it in her lap.
___________________
She considered him. He didn’t look like a dangerous person, but looks could be deceiving. Still, there was honest terror in his purple eyes, and his body was splashed with violence. Deep dark undereyes betrayed exhaustion, and Laith’s positioning screamed despair.
He looked so small. Weak.
Laith closed his eyes. “Please don’t make me,” he pleaded. She needed a different technique if she wanted answers.
Beatrice put her staff away and sat on the end of the bed. He looked at her, faint confusion on his face.
“Is Laith your real name?” she asked, coaxing cooperation.
He nodded.
“I heard that he shocked you.”
“Yeah.”
“Often?”
“Uh huh.”
Beatrice waited patiently. It was amazing how silence could encourage sharing.
Laith licked his dry cracked lips. “He beat me,” he said simply. “All the time. He’d hold me by my hair and use a metal rod sometimes. But mostly he just used his hands.”
Beatrice nodded along.
“He liked it whenever I begged him to stop,” continued Laith, “He called me his dog. And-” his voice cracked, and she waited for him to keep going.
But Laith shook his head, refusing to voice his thoughts.
Beatrice had heard enough, anyway. Her gut told her Theo’s hunch was right.
“And you don’t recall anything about his plans?” she asked, as gentle as she could manage.
“No.” Laith rested his head back on his knees.
She stood up. “If you remember anything, even if it’s small, let me know, okay?”
Laith hesitated.
“There might be something,” he admitted. “I don’t know-”
“What is it?”
Laith looked down at the bed sheets. “He- he had me get him some uranium.”
Panic flared in her chest. “What for?” Please don’t be nuclear bombs.
“It was a while ago. I thought it was just for fun,” he explained, too slowly for her liking. “His fun, anyway. He was developing new power-dampeners.” He picked at the one on his ankle.
He looked up at her, and must have read the confusion on her face. “They’re made with uranium. I don’t know why or how they work, but-” he shrugged. “He does. He was making new ones all the time.”
“What kind of new ones? Was there a pattern?” She prodded, alarmed.
“Smaller, I guess. Ones that weren’t bands or cuffs. I don’t know anything more. Does that help?”
“It does. Thank you.” She smiled at him, and his face turned from open to closed in a flash.
“Whatever,” he said, flippant.
“I’ll let you rest.” She stepped away, and with her super hearing, heard his sigh of relief.

A little more Birthday fluff for the flyboy.
A glimpse into the future because I’m adamant he must have a happy one. I didn’t actually get time today to write the main part I intended but I shall post now in case I never manage to get there!
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Objectively, Eleven was clearly the best ‘bird.
She was 6-mach faster than One, more manoeuvrable than Shadow and could carry more than her fair share of weight, even if it wasn’t as much as third-generation-turtle Twelve could.
And Scott had flown her like a second skin… he’d been far more involved in Eleven’s design than he had of IR’s original fast response craft. And of course he’d been the primary test pilot, putting more than a few grey hairs on Brains’ and Virgil’s heads in the process. Not to mention his wife’s. He smiled wryly to himself at the memory of the incredibly loud dressing down he’d received post a certain test flight… which had been closely monitored from the island right up until he’d tried out the high speed air to water transition Brains hadn’t fully stress-tested yet and the comms had gone offline for a few minutes. Or ten.
Half an hour at most.
The smile broadened to a grin as he recalled the aftermath of that particular argument… and, Well. Even if six children hadn’t quite been the plan, Scott had really needed to objectively exceed his father’s record at *something*… so… all’s well that ended well.
But Eleven had always been his eldest daughter’s bird.
And the extra machs were irrelevant now. Ever since the the appointment shortly after his 70th birthday when the doctor had forbidden him from exceeding Mach Five. Slower than Two for goodness sakes. His immediate objections had been silenced by a very clear indication that the doctor’s baseline opinion was that it wasn’t wise for a septuagenerian to exceed the speed of sound at all.
Lest he make any fuss that might get back to Virgil… or god forbid IR’s current commander in chief, whose precise combination of his wife’s and his own genes mildly terrified him even now… he nodded meekly. He’d only bent the rules a couple of times in the 5 years since. Maybe three…
Or four.
Eight at most.
Anyway, he’d always maintain One was best: she’d always have an important place in his heart - his first great love.
Which is why, at the newly attained age of 75, as he stood staring moodily out of the lounge window awaiting Eleven’s return to the hangar beneath the pool, his second slipped her hand into his and quietly towed him towards the transport tunnels over to Mateo. The cavern which used to house the old back-up generator, redundant since the island had made the switch to fully renewable energy sources, had been expanded to create a new hangar. It was here the older ‘birds nested quietly, awaiting their occasional moment in the sun as back up to the younger generation.
Nothing was said on the journey, she just squeezed his hand and he squeezed it back. Scott helped her out of the little pod, and he led the way this time to where his pride and joy towered over them, gleaming silver and blue as she ever had. Scott paced an inspection circuit around the base, pausing to buff a smudge from one of the stabilisers with a shirt sleeve. His wife followed, gripping his hand ever so tightly and, he suspected, appraising him as minutely as he was assessing the ship.
Satisfied with what he saw, Scott stood back and smiled up at One, rather fancying she was smiling back down at him. The hand suddenly slipped out of his and he frowned, missing its warmth immediately but his concern was assuaged when both arms wrapped around him from behind and she propped her chin up on his shoulder to whisper in his ear:
“So, Flyboy, are you going to take me for a ride today?”

Lone star tag game!
thanks for starting this @lonestar-s5countdown
(1) What is your favourite 911 Lone Star Found Family moment? I think either the tarlos wedding with everyone happy and in a party mood, or Marjan's welcome home party/the whole firefam camping out in the hospital waiting for news. Specifically that moment when the doctor asks for Marjan Marwani's family and they all raise their hand. (and of course that also gave us the cute tarlos cuddle with TK sleeping on Carlos' bicep)
(2) Which platonic pairing/friendship dynamic are you most looking forward to seeing again in season 5? I'd say Carlos & Grace but... *sobs*, I like Owen and Judd as bffs, I'm curious about how Wyatt is going to fit into it all, and TNT or just TK and Nancy. And Nancy & Marjan if the writers won't give me Nancy/Marjan romantically.
(3) If you could pick one Lone Star character to be friends with, who would you choose? Oh I don't know. All of them would be fun friends! But I think I'd like to be friends with Marjan. She seems like the kind of friend to just text you "be ready at 10" and not tell you anything else - but you end up having the best day of your life.
Actually - I think I'd befriend Owen so I could hang out with Buttercup!
(4) Which would you rather attend: Catan night at the loft or game night at the Ryder house? Oh Catan all the way. Carlos' snacks alone sealed the deal!
(5) A character of your choice ends up in jail. Who would they call to bail them out (assuming their romantic partner, parent, and/or child didn't pick up)? I'm just going to do all of them - i can't choose. I think Owen would call TK at first but he's enjoying date night with Carlos so neither of them answer... I think he'd call either Judd or Gabriel. Depending on how much trouble he's in. TK - Nancy or Tommy. Sometimes you need your bff to call you an idiot, sometimes you need your work mum to pick you up and give you a hug - and hope neither of them tell your husband. Carlos - Grace or Paul. Either of them would have him out in 10 seconds flat. Marjan - Paul or Nancy. I want the girls to stick together but I love her friendship with Paul too. Nancy - TK or Marjan. Though TK might be in jail with her and she'd end up calling Carlos to get them both out - much to TK's displeasure. Judd - Owen or Tommy. Tommy is probably the better bet since Owen would probably be in jail with him. Grace - Carlos or Tommy. Carlos is her crime solving partner, Tommy is her partner in crime! Paul - Marjan or Carlos. Marjan if he wants someone to literally break him out of jail, Carlos if he wants someone to actually get him out of trouble. Mateo - Marjan. That's his big sister! Though any member of the 126 would do really. Tommy - Grace. Hands down. But maybe Owen who could call Carlos or Gabriel if she needed any "official" help.
i always forget who my lone star peeps are outside the usual suspects so I'm just going to pick some people - also open tag for YOU

------------------------------------------------------
"I need something to cheer me up that doesn't come from a vending machine," y/n took a seat beside the young children "you got any ideas?"
Three pairs of confused brown eyes looked to their left, seeing a white coat before tilting their heads up to see an unfamiliar face. Anyone passing could feel the peculiar atmosphere; the young lady having a relaxing aura while the three boys looked uncertain of the question itself, much less how to answer.
"Don't worry," reassured y/n "I am a doctor here, my name is y/n."
With a look to each other, the three decided to trust the long piece of clothing along with the card hanging on her neck, and introduced themselves.
"Thiago"
"Davi"
"Mateo"
"You boys have such nice names." Cooed y/n.
"Thank you."
"We are not babies!"
"Don't talk to an adult like that! Papa and Mama told us to be nice."
The two brunet boys reminded her of tom & Jerry in that moment, they were currently arguing about whether to be polite or to not trust strangers. Both rules taught to them by their parents, and both were correct - well, some would argue about always being polite rule, but that's not the current issue.
"A hug." A timid reply came as the blonde boy admired his swinging feet.
"Well, who's the lucky person that you hug?"
"Papa and mama," Lucca smiled. "My grandma too! She gives the best hugs!"
Y/n smiled at the small boy's enthusiasm as he talked about everyone that has hugged him with a wide grin on his face.
"What about me?!" Exclaimed Thiago. "I hug you too!"
"Yeah, but you're shorter than me!"
"Hey! My brother isn't short! He is big and strong!"
A laugh escaped y/n as she watched the three boys argue over the fact that a person is short doesn't mean they aren't strong. Oh they are so cute! I want to squish their cheeks so bad!
Going through her pockets, y/n searched for a few candies to give to the boys as a thank you for cheering her up, she always loved talking to kids they had the most genuine and entertaining conversations, especially with each other. However, as she was digging around she felt a smooth, slightly wet smudge on her fingertips, no no, please god I don't want to stay in a small cubicle for 10 minutes to reapply anything!
Looking at her wrist, the concealer's tone was bright and clear against the white sleeve margins, y/n groaned and rolled her head backwards.
"Miss, are you okay?"
Came a small voice, making y/n realise that the three boys have stopped their back and forth and watched her intently, not sure if they should move away in case she wanted to rest; Davi remembered his mother telling him of how hard doctors work and study to be able to help him, or if she was hurt and they should call someone.
"Ahh yes," y/n smiled reassuringly. "Just my coat got a bit dirty and I have to go change."
She wasn't about to tell them that her connection to her soulmate was writing on skin, and that her soulmate was obsessed so she had to wake up nearly before all and any gathering or meeting or work appointment by 3 hours to cover up tattoos that her soulmate placed on his skin with no consideration of the consequences that will occur to her nor her request at 23 years old asking him to please, stop.
Yes, she was and still is bitter about it, she can hold a grudge. (She, in fact, can not hold a grudge for more than 2 hours.)
"Is that a tattoo?" Mateo frowned with knitted eyebrows as he tried to get a better look at the drawings under her sleeves.
Wide eyes and a stumped smile on her face, y/n nodded, wondering how such a young boy knows what tattoos are. Well, there is internet everywhere. However, unlike her thoughts, the little boy had recently been obsessed with his father's right arm, looking at the black ink with the occasional question.
"Papa has that!" Raved Thiago as he looked at his brother and friend with shinning eyes and a wide smile. He had rarely seen any women with tattoos, only a few and he has no idea why, but it was something new to him and it made him want to sit with the doctor for much longer.
"Yes! Uncle Leo and papa have tattoos!" Gushed the blonde boy with his friends before asking y/n if there was more.
Not seeing any harm in showing three little boys the small uncovered part of her uncontrolled tattoo sleeve, she lifted a bit of her coat, just a layer really. And as soon as she had done so, the only blonde gasped as his eyes widened, freezing in place.
He looked familiar, very oddly familiar, and she knew that, she knew that she saw him before, she saw him nearly everyday in black ink on her forearm. She was desperate for the thought in her head to be wrong, to just be her mind playing tricks on her or for her to just currently be going through a romantic drought that she is making things up.
But, she was so, very wrong.
"That looks like papa's!" Davi exclaimed as soon as y/n showed her arm.
Well, holy shit. I am not insane. I'm right!
Oh. I 'm right.

Read Chapter 13 on AO3!
T.K. 🍑
[11:10am] Did I leave my AFD hoodie at your place?
Carlos
[11:10am] I don’t know. Let me look.
[11:16am] Yep. Found it. Under the right side of my bed.
T.K. 🍑
[11:17am] Shit. I thought I grabbed it. My dad has the AC cranked up at the firehouse. He read somewhere that cold is better for your metabolism. I feel like I’m in a freezer.
Carlos
[11:18am] Want me to to bring it to you? I’m heading to my parents’ in a little bit. I can drop it off.
T.K. 🍑
[11:18am] Yeah that’d be great actually. You don’t mind?
Carlos
[11:19am] It’s basically on my way. Can’t have my boyfriend turning into a popsicle.
T.K. 🍑
[11:19am] You’d better hurry or you might be too late. My fingers are turning into icicles as I type.
Carlos
[11:24am] On my way. Don’t freeze before I get there.
He pulls up to the firehouse about ten minutes later, reaching for the hoodie on the passenger seat as he opens his door and steps out. He’s heading for the open bay doors when a human rocket in the size and shape of his boyfriend comes hurtling out toward him. “Oh thank god. You saved my life.”
T.K. crashes into him, his hands sliding under the hem of Carlos’ t-shirt. Carlos shouts and tries to pull away as the aforementioned icicle fingers skate up his abdomen. “Ah! Let go of me! You’re freezing!”
“No way.” T.K. snuggles into his chest and gives a little shiver. “Best thing for hypothermia is body heat. And you are very, very hot.”
“You’re not hypothermic,” Carlos says with a roll of his eyes, trying to squirm away again. T.K. is a stage one clinger though and holds on tightly.
“How would you know? You’re a police officer. Not a doctor,” he says.
“People don’t get hypothermic in Austin in May,” Carlos tells him. “People don’t get hypothermic in Austin ever.”
“First time for everything,” T.K. mumbles as he buries his nose in Carlos’ chest.
It’s equally as cold as the rest of him and Carlos suppresses a laugh. T.K. is exaggerating, but not by much. “Do you want your sweatshirt?” he asks.
“No,” T.K. says. “I’m just going to stay like this.”
“Isn’t it going to be hard to fight fires if you’re glued to my stomach?” Carlos asks.
T.K. reluctantly pulls back. “Fine.” He takes the hoodie from Carlos and slips it on over his uniform. “Thanks for bringing this by.”
Carlos runs a hand down T.K.’s sweatshirt clad arm. “That’s what boyfriends are for.”
“What are you doing at your parents’?” T.K. asks as he shoves his hands into his sweatshirt pockets.
“My dad is at work and my mom needs something out of the garage that she can’t reach,” Carlos says dryly. “I’ve been summoned.”
“But you’ll likely be paid in food for your services,” T.K. says, his eyes lighting up. “Food you will share with…?”
Carlos rolls his eyes fondly. “Yes, I will save you some tres leches if she made any.”
“Yes!”
Carlos chews the inside of his lip as he considers his next move. “Actually,” he says, “she’s been asking about you. She wants you to come for dinner. To thank you for taking care of me when I was hurt. And probably to be nosy about our relationship.”
“Yes,” T.K. says immediately.
“Are you sure? You don’t have to—“
“Will she make food?”
“Yes?”
“Will she show me embarrassing naked baby photos of you?”
“Probably?”
T.K. looks at him very seriously. “Will I get to meet the chickens?”
Carlos snort laughs. He’d told T.K. about his parents keeping chickens in their backyard at some point in their texting chats and he’d had a thousand questions about it. “Yes, I’m sure my mom would love for you to meet the chickens.”
“Then yes! When? Tonight? Wait, I’m working. Tomorrow?”
“I’ll ask her today, but probably this weekend.”
“Oh. That’s so far away.” T.K.’s lip comes out in an adorable pout.
“I think you’ll live,” Carlos says with a chuckle.
The entire firehouse lights up, alarms and sirens blaring as a call comes in. “Oops, gotta go!” T.K. says, kissing him quick and then running back inside.
“He-ey Carlos!” Mateo gives him a wave as he scurries toward the truck. “Good to see you bro!”
“Hey Mateo.” Carlos lifts a hand and waves back.
“Carlos! You gotta come by for dinner if you’re free!” Paul says as he climbs aboard. “I’m making my mama’s gumbo.”
“Another time!” Carlos calls as the engine starts up.
T.K. sticks his head out the engine window as they drive past him. “Bye babe! See you later!”
He can hear the rest of the team wolf whistling and yelling as they go by and feels color flood his face, but not in a shameful way. T.K. called him babe in front of his teammates. In front of his dad. He’s excited to have Carlos in his life.
It’s a new feeling. And it’s one Carlos likes.
At five thirty on Friday night he pulls the Camaro into the Strand driveway and cuts the engine, giving himself a second to breathe and try to relax. His nerves are all over the place. Whatever happens tonight with his family is going to define his relationship with T.K. for the foreseeable future. And he’s honestly not quite sure what to expect.
He’s never brought a boy home before. For a lot of reasons.
Stepping out of the car he’s almost to the door when he hears someone call his name from behind. He turns to see Owen striding up the front walk, Buttercup trundling along behind him on a leash.
“Captain Strand,” he says, giving him a nod as he joins him at the front door.
“Owen,” the captain says pointedly. “You’re not one of my firefighters.”
“Yes sir.” What is it about this man that makes him break out in a cold sweat?
Owen uses his key to open the front door, unleashing Buttercup who wanders inside in search of a drink from his water bowl. “Come on in,” he says, beckoning Carlos inside. “T.K.!” he yells up the stairs. “Your boyfriend is here!”
“Be down in a minute!” T.K. yells back.
“Can I get you anything?” Owen says as he heads for the kitchen. “I just got this new cleansing juice. It is full of probiotics. Any interest?”
“No, thank you,” Carlos says, just barely biting back the “sir” that forms on his tongue.
Owen shrugs and takes a swig from his own bottle. “So, family dinner tonight?”
“Yes. Just my mom and dad,” Carlos says. “T.K., I don’t know if he told you this, but he helped me out last month when I was injured. My mom kind of thinks he’s a hero.”
“I like her already,” Owen says. “I would love to meet her sometime.”
The cold sweat turns into a cold panic and Carlos opens his mouth to reply, but T.K. comes bounding down the stairs, his shirt a blur of color as he presses a kiss to Carlos’ mouth. “Hi babe,” he says. He’s made incredibly liberal use of the nickname since claiming it. “Ready to go?”
“Yeah,” Carlos says.
“Well you boys have fun,” Owen says. “Have him home by midnight.”
“Dad.” T.K. rolls his eyes.
“Kidding, kidding! Enjoy!”
T.K. follows Carlos out to the car, settling into the passenger seat with ease. “Should I have invited your dad to dinner?” Carlos asks worriedly.
“My dad?” T.K. looks at him in confusion.
“He said he’d like to meet my mom and I realized I could have invited him. Should I go back inside? My mom won’t care if we have one more, she always makes plenty.”
He’s reaching for the door handle, but T.K. puts a hand on his arm. “Carlos my dad is fine.”
“Are you sure?” Carlos asks, still feeling bad. “I didn’t even think about it.”
“It’s so sweet of you to want him to come but…I’d kind of like this night to be just about us. I know I already met your mom, but I haven’t had a chance to get to know her yet. And I haven’t met your dad at all.” He smiles. “I love my dad. But in case you hadn’t noticed, he kind of pulls focus. And I plan to be the center of attention tonight.”
He flashes Carlos a cheeky smile that makes him smile back and eases his guilt. “Okay. But next time. I’m sure my parents would like to meet your dad.”
“Next time,” T.K. agrees. “Now let’s go! I’m starving!”
It’s only about thirty minutes from T.K.’s house to his parents’. T.K. chatters on the whole time about Harry Styles and Jackson Pollock and how New York City has the best water in the entire country. T.K.’s voice is animated and poassionate, but it’s still kind of soothing. Like listening to a podcast.
“Whoa,” T.K. says, stopping mid-stream when they finally turn onto the right street. “Somebody’s having a party.”
“Looks like,” Carlos says, carefully navigating between the cars that are parked along the road.
And then he spots a familiar pick-up truck followed by an equally familiar minivan and his heart plummets into his stomach. “Oh no,” he says quietly, barely aware that the words have escaped his lips.
“What?” T.K. asks.
Carlos puts the Camaro into park in his parents’ driveway and looks at T.K. “You remember how I said this dinner was going to be just you and me and my parents?”
“Yeah.”
He nods toward T.K.’s window. “That minivan? That belongs to my sister Ana. That truck over there is my Tía Lucy’s. The Subaru? That’s my Tío Ramón’s.”
Understanding slowly dawns in T.K.’s eyes. “Oh. The party is at your house?”
“I’m afraid so.” Carlos tightens his hands into fists on top of his thighs. “Do you want to leave? This is not what you signed up for.”
“Leave?” T.K. gives him a look like he’s crazy. “Why would we leave?”
“Because my family is big and loud and overwhelming and you were expecting a quiet dinner to get to know my parents?”
“Will there still be tamales?”
“If the kids haven’t eaten them all already.”
That is when the look of concern that Carlos was expecting finally crosses T.K.’s face and he starts to fumble with his seatbelt. “Well okay let’s get in there then!”
“T.K. are you sure—“
“Carlos,” T.K. looks straight into his eyes, deadly serious. “You promised me your mom’s tamales. Nothing is going to keep me from them. I work in a firehouse full of loud, nosy, obnoxious people. They were all there on our first date. Your family doesn’t scare me.” He opens his door. “Now can we please go before all the tamales are gone?”
Carlos has no choice but to get out and follow T.K. to the door even as he is internally panicking about how this is going to go. He’s out to his family. But it’s not something they talk about like…ever. He doesn’t quite know where they all stand on him dating a man, especially some of his more devoutly Catholic tíos and tías.
But T.K. practically bounds up the front steps with the energy of a golden retriever, so Carlos tries to put on a brave face as he pushes open the front door. “Mom! We’re here!” he calls as they step inside.
There’s music going and people talking and laughing, the smell of food in the air. All the feelings of home that Carlos greyed out of his condo for so many years because it was easier to pretend it didn’t exist than it was to invite people in and be rejected.
“Carlitos!”
His mom appears from around the corner, the same floral apron that she’s worn for thirty years covering her outfit. She pulls him in for a hug and a kiss on the cheek before turning her eyes to T.K. “T.K.! Welcome! Bienvenidos!” She gives him the same hug and kiss along with an extra pinch on the cheek. “We are so glad to have you here! Come in, come in.”
She shoos him in front of her and Carlos gently grabs her arm. “Mom, I thought you said this was going to be small.”
“It is small mijo.” She looks puzzled. “Tía Dolores and Tía Eduardo are out of town on their cruise.”
His mom would think that having one sister and brother-in-law absent from their party constitutes a small gathering. “I thought it was going to be just you and me and T.K. and Dad,” he clarifies.
“Well I mentioned it to Ana and she wanted to come, so then of course I had to invite Luisa too,” she says. “And then Tía Lucy was over on Sunday and asked about you so I told her you were coming over and she invited herself and then…” she waves a hand, “you know how it goes.”
He does indeed know how it goes. In all honesty, he should have anticipated this. It’s his own fault really that he didn’t see it coming.
He follows his mom and T.K. into the living room and open kitchen where his family is waiting. There’s a chorus of hellos and he receives several hugs around the knees from the kids in the room as his mom introduces T.K.
“Everyone this is T.K.!” his mom says proudly and T.K. gives a little wave to the room.
“Hello,” he says all smiles and sunlight.
Aware that he only has about three seconds before his family swarms his fledgling of a boyfriend, Carlos grabs T.K.’s hand and steers him out the back door to where his dad is working the grill with a couple of his tíos and cousins.
“Dad?” Carlos says as they approach.
“Carlitos!” His dad hands a pair of tongs over to Tío Lucas and wipes his hands on his apron. “Good to see you.”
“Dad, this is T.K. My boyfriend.” He watches with cautious eyes as his dad takes in this information. He knows his dad knows, his mom definitely told him what tonight was all about, but he’s still nervous about what his dad’s reaction will be.
“Well of course it is!” His dad holds out a hand, grabbing T.K.’s and shaking enthusiastically.
Carlos relaxes, just barely containing a sigh of relief. Not awkward. Good.
“I’m Gabriel. So nice to finally meet you. I’ve heard you’re quite the superstar firefighter,” his dad continues.
“Well I don’t know about that,” T.K. says, oddly modest, though the color on his cheeks indicates that he’s pleased by this description.
“According to my wife you’re quite something,” Gabriel says. “She was very impressed with how you helped our Carlos.”
“I was happy to do it,” T.K. says, looking at Carlos with soft eyes. Then they drift to something over his shoulder and go wide. “Oh my god! Is that the chicken coop?!”
He almost knocks Carlos over in his haste to head for the far corner of the backyard. Carlos laughs. “We’ll be back,” he tells his dad, then heads over to where T.K. is already kneeling in front of the chicken wire fence, making soft noises at the hens inside.
“Oooh look at you, you’re such a pretty girl aren’t you?” he’s saying when Carlos reaches him. He turns and looks up at Carlos. “What are their names?”
“The black one is Bubbles. The brown is Princess Sparkles. And the white one is Marisol. My niece and nephew named Bubbles and Princess Sparkles. My mom named Marisol.”
“Can I pet them?”
“Um…you can try. They’re not super friendly. They really only like my mom.”
T.K. is already opening the enclosure and picking Bubbles up, cooing softly. “Hi Bubbles. Are you a good girl? Yes you are. Yes you are!”
Carlos watches in amusement as T.K. snuggles each chicken in turn without a single peck. They all cluck softly and let him stroke their feathers, then calmly wander around his feet, searching the dirt for food.
“What are you, some kind of animal whisperer?” Carlos asks.
T.K. shrugs and sets Princess Sparkles down. “Animals are easier to understand than people sometimes. And they’re very, very cute.”
“Boys, oye!” his dad calls, beckoning them back toward the house. “Food is ready. Let’s eat!”
It’s a chaotic night, the way family dinners always are. One of Carlos’ nieces spills an entire glass of milk at the dinner table, Ana loses her car keys only to find them an hour later in the freezer, and T.K. is pulled from one person to the next to be lovingly interrogated. Carlos tries to stay with him, but he keeps getting pulled in a hundred different directions to help with food, find the aforementioned lost keys, move a table from the garage to the living room, and a host of other things.
He does get to sit down long enough to watch T.K. demolish an impressive number of tamales along with a huge portion of arroz con pollo, refried beans, and steak with chimichurri. His mom keeps refilling T.K.’s plate, chatting away with him the entire time, to the point that Carlos is a little worried he might have to take T.K. to the ER to have his stomach pumped.
It’s almost nine o’clock by the time they leave, his mom handing him several tupperwares full of leftovers to take home for him and T.K. “Thank you for coming.” She pulls him close so she can whisper in his ear. “I love him. Make sure you bring him again.”
Those words make Carlos feel like he could crumple to the ground in a ball of tears. The open acceptance of his relationship is overwhelming. When he’d come out to his parents at eighteen it had felt like his entire world was balanced precariously on their reaction and he’s kind of been living that way ever since. Never fully himself, always putting on a front for their comfortability.
“Thank you,” he says, clearing his throat when his voice comes out half cracked.
“T.K.!” his mom throws her arms around him. “You are welcome anytime. You make sure Carlos shares some of that ropa vieja with you; it’s his favorite and if you’re careful he’ll eat it all himself.”
“Oh don’t worry, I’ll make sure he shares,” T.K. says, throwing him that charming smile that endeared him to the hearts of everyone in this house tonight.
“You’re quiet,” he says as they drive back to Carlos’, the tupperware sitting in his lap.
“Just thinking,” Carlos says, flashing him a quick smile as they stop at a light.
“Good thoughts? Or bad thoughts?”
Thoughts he can’t say yet. Thoughts about him, his family, T.K., how they all fit together. Maybe someday he’ll be able to share them, but for now he keeps them to himself.
He sends T.K. a flirtier smile. “Thoughts about how I’m going to say thank you for tonight.”
“Ooh,” T.K. smiles and shifts in his seat. “I would say you don’t have to, but I’m very excited to find out what that looks like.”
“You should be.”
