୨ৎ Growing up in the fast world of racing, you and max find you distaste for the other and wants to be in top. Though as the years goes on you and Max find new feelings between the pair of you. You just hope the world you grow up in doesn’t change you and Max.

Karting was supposed to be fun, a way to channel all the boundless energy that came with being eight years old. But for Max and Y/N, it was serious business. It wasn’t just about the thrill of speed or the feel of the wind against their faces; it was about winning.

You were the new kid on the circuit, a girl with a fierce determination that seemed to drive you as much as the engine of his kart did. Max, on the other hand, had been karting for a couple of years already. He knew the tracks like the back of his hand and wasn’t about to let some newcomer come in and steal his thunder.

Your rivalry began immediately. Every weekend, your karts would be nose to tail, each refusing to give the other an inch. You'd trade victories, but it was never without a fight. If Max won one weekend, you would train twice as hard to ensure you win the next.

“You got lucky,” You huffed one Saturday after Max had edged you out by a fraction of a second.

Max, grinning, shrugged nonchalantly. “Maybe you just need to get better.”

Your eyes narrowed, but deep down, you respected his drive, just as you suspected he respected yours. The pair of you pushed each other harder than anyone else ever could, turning every race into a battle of wills as much as a battle of skill.

By the time you were twelve, your rivalry had become legendary on the karting circuit. But something else had started to develop too—a friendship that neither of you had expected. It wasn’t something you talked about, and certainly not something you let your parents or other racers see. It was easier that way, easier to keep the lines clear on the track if you didn’t blur them off it.

But in the quiet moments, away from the roar of engines and the cheers of crowds, you found yourselves gravitating towards each other.

It started small. Sharing a bottle of water after a particularly gruelling race, a brief word of encouragement when one of you had a rough day. Then, it grew. You'd meet in the corners of the paddock, behind the trailers where no one could see you, and talk about anything and everything—except racing.

One evening, after everyone else had gone home, you had stayed behind at the track, sitting on the grass with the setting sun casting long shadows.

“Do you ever think about what it would be like if we weren’t racing?” You asked, your voice barely above a whisper.

Max looked at you, surprised. “I don’t know… I’ve never really thought about it. Racing is all I know.”

“Me too,” you admitted, picking at the grass. “But sometimes I wonder what else there is, you know? What else we could be.”

Max was quiet for a moment, then he nodded. “Yeah… I wonder too.”

By fifteen, things had changed. You weren’t kids anymore, and the feelings that had started to develop were more complicated than they had been when they were just rivals on the track. It was no longer enough to just be friends in secret. They wanted—needed—more.

It happened one night after a long day of racing. You were alone again, as they often were, sitting in the back of the van that your dad used to haul her kart to the track. The air was thick with the smell of oil and rubber, but all you could focus on was how close Max was sitting next to you.

“I think…” Max started, then stopped, unsure of how to continue.

“What?” You prompted, your heart beating faster.

“I think I like you,” he said, his voice barely audible.

You blinked, caught off guard. But then you smiled, a shy, tentative smile. “I think I like you too.”

You leaned in at the same time, your first kiss sweet and awkward, the way all first kisses are. It wasn’t perfect, but it was yours and max's, and in that moment, it was all that mattered.

When the final race came, the one that would determine whether he would finally win his first championship, you made a decision. You booked a flight, bought a ticket, and found yourself standing in the crowd, surrounded by fans who had no idea who you were.

You watched the race with your heart in your throat, every turn, every lap a reminder of the life you had once shared. And when Max crossed the finish line, securing the championship, you felt a surge of emotion you hadn’t expected.

Tears streamed down your face as you watched him celebrate, his team surrounding him, the roar of the crowd deafening. You should have left, should have walked away before he saw you, but you couldn’t move. You were rooted to the spot, your eyes never leaving him.

“I’ve missed you,” he said, his voice thick with emotion.

“I’ve missed you too,” you replied, opening your eyes to look at him. “Every day.”

You stood there, lost in each other, the noise of the world around you forgotten. It was as if the years apart had melted away, leaving only the love that had always been there, waiting for you to find each other again.

And as Max leaned in to kiss you, the first kiss you had shared in years, it felt like coming home. The crowd around them cheered, not knowing who you were, not knowing the history you shared, but it didn’t matter. All that mattered was that you were together again, and this time, you weren’t going to let anything come between you.

No offense to anyone but genuinly the Babby Shuggy moments not only made me ship it but also make me not understand people who feel like their dynamic in canon isn’t „all that interesting“ after they split. „They haven’t seen each other in years. They are different people now. They aren’t thinking and regretting their splitting 24/7!“ okay, but also like…. You don’t want them to have more screentime after the flashback that can just really flesh out how they changed? You don’t think Buggy fucking up upwards coupled with Shanks actual epicness while still being the type of guy to be chill with Buggy and congratulate him for fucking up upwards would be fun? You don’t even want them to have that cool anime shonen type thing where they work together for a while and get into a fight and get a full page panel of them ready to kick ass while standing back to back? (The „What? You’re fighting too?“ scene from Kingdom Hearts may be overused but it comes to my mind immediatly because sometimes things are overused for a REASON and it fits them in a weird way) Like…. Okay. Your loss. But even beyond shipping I am still a bit flabbergasted at some people being like „Yeah but there’s nothing THERE.“ like, COME ON THERE COULD BE SO MUCH.

Okay, anon, sometimes you need to understand that people have no taste and sometimes we are more intelligent than others and we have to carry the burden of liking and understanding an amazing ship that a lot of people find boring in canon because they don't know how to read the characters. (I'm half joking here, by the way)

Like!!! I started shipping them from the first second they mentioned they were together when they were young. The first flashback of them has the biggest most beautiful "young, teenage best friends to lovers angsty with a lot of pining and not actually unrequited love" I've ever seen. And not only that, even their fucking past is a slow burn. They make you wait to know about the resentment and what happened between them (I've only watched that flashback in wano, if more things are shown in the arc or the manga I don't know about them so don't spoil me in the comments pleaseplease) and it's so so so beautiful. Like- They make me want to lay on the floor all day and cry WHAT'S NOT INTERESTING ABOUT THEIR DYNAMIC????

You know what happens, anon? A lot of people don't like the childhood best friends to lovers trope because they find it boring (for some reason I still don't understand because it's literally my favorite trope) and so they decide to focus on the rivalry and angst that comes later but, y'know, that's when the fanon thing comes up and they focus more on that than on their actual canon past where they're best friends.

And tbh the fact that they reduce their characters only to their relationship instead of to their actual personalities and goals is a shame because Buggy and Shanks have to be two of the most charismatic and interesting anime characters I've ever seen. They're fun and extremely cool to watch even when they aren't thinking about each other 24/7. People, please stop only thinking about ships for a moment?? And if you do, please at least think about how cool it's going to be once they get together again after so much time being apart.

This reminds me a lot of Soukoku and Satosugu ngl. The whole BFFs until there was this big betrayal thing and also the fact that people only like them because of their relationship and are always mad their characters aren't only about the ship.

Honestly, I'm so excited to see more of them and every time they talk/show up on screen I immediately start sobbing. How could people not find them interesting in canon? Buggy is literally one of the best characters wdym?? Also he'd be extremely angry at people reducing him to his relationship with Shanks, dude already is tired of that man let him rest!! Imagine people always talking about you to talk about the ex you still love like damn please he's an awesome character too. And Shanks, too, but like the dude is a simp and he would love this whole thing so-

Probably the most attractive pair of young adults that anyone can find

You were both top tier models in the industry

You always had a little rivalry between you but you always promised each other to never let it affect your ‘relationship’

“Beautiful darling, your beautiful” praised your photographer as you finished your shoot giving you air kisses on your cheeks. You thanked him and the rest of the staff and entered your dressing room sighing.

“Rough day?” Asked a voice, startling you a bit. You looked up to see your boyfriend, Akaashi Keiji sitting in the corner of your dressing room on a love seat.  

“Gosh Keiji you scared me” clutching your chest dramatically “But yes, the day has been tiring Fabio has really been overworking me lately” you complained. Akaashi walks towards you and gave you a peck on the cheek “Aww poor baby” he cooed mockingly, “but don’t worry ‘bout it Y/N your sucess will be all be worth it eventually” he says making you smile.

“and besides, you’ve got a shoot with me soon anyways” he winks, making you chuckle. You finished removing your make-up as Akaashi tells you about his shoot today and Bokuto’s (your fellow model friend) antics.  

You and Akaashi first laid eyes on eachother when you were both up and coming models, you both are under the same company. At first, both of your agents decided to make you spend time with each other to push the narrative of you being a couple anyways. However, since you and Akaashi had great natural chemistry it made your relationship great and made for a great photo too.  

As much as the public loved your relationship and the saucy photos you tend to make together, they also thrived of the slight rivalry you guys had together or the times when you guys bother shot with other people (since it was easy for a fan to make a new ship off of two people literally standing next to each other.)

You spent the next day having what you and Akaashi called a ‘rest day,’ you both specifically clear your schedules for every 2nd and 4th saturday of each month to not do any work-related for the day and just bask in each other’s companies (as you were both busy and barely got enough time to see one another.)

You watched multiple movies, made your own homemade cookies and dinner, had pillow fights, built forts. You both were having so much fun, until you both got a call...Just then, the vibe changed you went from your free-spirited fun selfs back into work mode.

Your agent told you that two brands *Insert big fashion designer brand here* and *Insert another big fashion designer brand here* were having some form of standoff. To be honest, you didn’t really care about the context of the shoot(s) in this case, as your agents call ruined your day. They wanted you and Tsukishima Kei, to do some competing shoots and promotional videos for their brand against the other designer.

After getting all your information from your agent, you go back into the living and see Akaashi sitting down thinking deeply about something. “What was your call about?” you inquire sitting down next to him.

“Oh just some silly designer brand competition thing.” he mindlessly replies, still thinking deeply.

“Yeah same. So what’s got you thinking all deeply then?” you ask

“My fellow model is going to be Kiyoko Shimuzu” he sighed, making you blink repeatedly before immediately saying “You can’t do the shoot”

Kiyoko Shimuzu was japans beauty. Everybody loved her, she’s been a model since she was a child everyone wanting a grasp on her looks. The guys wanted her, the girls wanted to be here. Kiyoko Shimuzu was a force to be reckon with.

The real problem at hand wasn’t her stunning looks, popularity and fame. It was her connection with Akaashi. Before Akaashi went big and met you, he was Kiyoko’s boyfriend (well ex-boyfriend now) and they broke up because of long-distance or something like that.

However, to you, Kiyoko’s feelings for your boyfriend have never went away. Whenever you guys bumped into each other at red carpet events or runway shows, she always seemed to linger a bit too long around your boyfriend, which definitely wasn’t to your liking.

Akaashi lifted up his head from inside his palms and looked at you as if you had grown another head. “What do you mean, ‘I can’t do the shoot’” he asked in disbelief

“I mean, you can’t do the shoot” you reiterated not understanding why he didn’t understand.  

Akaashi sighs before putting his face back in his hands to think, “Well I know you got to the shoot aswell Y/N who’s yours with.”

“Tsukki” You said nonchalantly say as if it was nothing, making Akaashi look at you again as if you were fully crazy before he had a chance to speak you cut him off saying “Don’t even start Akaashi.”

You and Tsukishima Kei, have best friends since you were kids. You weren’t romantic in any way shape or form, well at least you weren’t. Akaashi always claimed that that Tsukishima was in love with you, that you and Tsukishima were the perfect example of every ‘childhood friends-lovers trope’ ever, which to you wasn’t true. Everything between you and Tsukishima was and still is completely platonic which you can’t say the same for Akaashi and Kiyoko.

“You’re not doing the shoot” he says firmly as if he was your father.  

“Oh so you can do your shoot with your literally EX GIRLFRIEND, but I can’t do mine with my best friend... yeah make sense” you say standing up, astounded.

“Y/N chill, If you’re so adamant about me not doing it with Shi- Kiyoko, then I wont” he says pulling your arm down making you land on him “and you better not do it with ‘Tsukki’” he mocked.

“Okay so none of us are doing the shoots?” you ask looking up at him  

“Yup” he says  

“Pinky promise,” you joked sticking out your pinky in his face.

“Pinky promise” he agreed hooking his finger around yours.

For the next month it seemed you were booked busy, you barely got to see your boyfriend as his agent had him running around all of Japan and even had him booked in some places in Europe for this month. Of course, you missed him, but you understand how busy it can be doing your line of work. You’ve been quite busy too, doing the usual shoots and runways.

Although he was busy, Akaashi basically went radio silent on you. You still expected him to reply to some of your messages or at least call once or twice when he had the chance, since he must have 10 minutes of break time and that's the bare minimum.

It’s been two weeks since you last saw Akaashi (and that was on your saturday rest day) and you were expecting him to come over today so you could have another. Since of course, Saturday ‘rest days’ were basically a tradition for you and Akaashi before you even started dating.

You had no text from Akaashi explaining his lateness/absense, so you just figured he wasn’t coming putting a damper on your day. You spent the day lounging around and shoving your face with your favourite snacks and food.

You get a text from Tsukishima which read:

Tsukishima: Looks whose boyfriend stumbled on set...

You didn’t respond as you were shocked at the sight you saw, the image was a picture of Akaashi and Kiyoko on set doing shots for the *insert the other rich designer brand* the shoot that you both agreed you wouldn’t do, which was also a LINGERE brand.  

You felt betrayed, you both agreed to not do the shoot and it’s not like you did do yours. You made sure to turn it down the day you made your agreement. And he skipped on your traditional saturday ‘rest day’ without even giving you any word of him not planning on arriving.

You didn’t know what to do, do you confront him about it? Or do you wait for him to approach you? Since he would plan on telling you about this right? You eventually messaged Tsukishima a ‘thanks’ and you decided how you were going to handle the situation. Pop up on Akaashi and Kiyoko at the photoshoot.

You knew where it was at, since you had the address already from when your agent first offered you the idea. You drove to the place in a breakneck speed, strutting in there like a woman on a mission (which you technically were.) You decided to wait in Akaashi’s dressing room, not wanting to cause a scene at the shoot which would be bad for yours, Akaashi’s and Kiyoko’s image and would be a waste of the time of the staff and photographer there.

Akaashi finally finished the shoot and entered his room with a sigh not realising that you were sitting in the corner of his room. “Did you have a rough time?” you ask mockingly making him jump and his eyes widen as you were the last person he expected to be there. “Why so shocked, you weren’t expecting me?” you still keep the same mocking tone in your speech.

“Y/N I-” He started  

“Y/N what?” You interrupted “Y/N I’m sorry for basically ghosting you for a month? I'm sorry for doing a shoot with someone who I know is still in love with me? I’m sorry for lying to you? I’m sorry for skipping out on our rest day with no explanation on where I am?” you stare at him as he stares back speechless.

“Oh, am I missing something?” you continue “Oh yes ‘Y/n I’m sorry for doing the shoot that we both agreed that we weren’t doing’” you sit down and wait for him to reply.

Akaashi puts his head down in shame, not really knowing what to say. Because of his silence, you roll your eyes and get up fed up with his lack of explanation. Before you fully leave Akaashi blocks your way with slight tears in his eyes “I had no other choice Y/N, I had to do all those shoots and travel other places with Kiyoko because sh-”

“Wait, that’s where you were?” you shout “Gallivanting around the country with HER!” you extend your arm pointing outside the door before you turn trying to leave again.

“N-No No Y/N you’ve got to listen to me” he said putting your hands on my shoulder “She has something, on me and I-I couldn’t I can’t get out of it. It’s deeper than just a simple shoot.” You were confused but you were so upset you just didn’t want to hear it so instead of listening to your boyfriend you decided to say “you’re so full of shit Akaashi” making him gasp at your coldness and the use of his last name. “ but hey I guess thats my fault for trusting you”

You finally left the room and went to go get a breather for a second with tears sparking in your eyes. You leaned against the wall and whispered “fuck” frustrated with the whole situation. Making you jump, Tsukishima said “you should go talk to him you know.”  

“What do you know Tsukki” he cringed at the nickname

“I know more than you Y/N, just go talk to him.” he said making you squint your eyes at him wondering what information he held.

When you walked back to Akaashi’s dressing room practicing an apology in your head. But you paused your arrival hearing Akaashi talking to the one and only, Kiyoko Shimuzu in his room.

“Let’s face it Akaashi, now that I’ve got this sex tape of us, I basically own you.” she said to him making your eyes widen.  

You decided the smartest thing to do was to pull out your phone and record as much as the conversation as you possibly could. Because you could already tell Akaashi was in a bind.

“The next thing I want you to do is...” she continued acting as if she was thinking “break it with Y/N!”

“No certainly not Kiyoko, you’re going too far.” he said making you smile internally that he still defended your relationship. “Me and Y/N are definitely NOT breaking up.”

“Akaashi are you forgetting that I have something over you.” she pulls out her phone and she plays a video, which you can only assume is the sex tape. You can hear a bunch of moans and groans which made your stomache ache.

Tired of hearing this, you burst into the room and say “What the fuck are you doing Kiyoko”  

“Oh Y/N how lovely for you to join us...” she said with a smile, “I was just discussing with your ‘boyfriend’ plans for our next shoots.”

“I always knew you were a bitch.” you say shocking your head at her.

“What do you mean Y/N?” she says with a fake smile, not knowing that you were listening in on your conversation “Actually Akaashi was telling me something he had to tell you... isn’t that right Akaashi.” you both looked over at him and he was scared and speechless.

“Oh you mean how you’ve been blackmailing him for the past two weeks...” you accuse  

“You have no proof of that.” She taunted  

“Oh do I..” you rebuttal then pressing play on the recording you just took watching as both Kiyoko and Akaashi look shocked. Kiyoko scurries out the room knowing she’s been caught leaving you with a triumphant smile.

You sit down, gesturing Akaashi to sit next to you. “Akaashi, I’m so sorry for not listening to you earlier I felt so betrayed thinking that you went agaisnt out agreement, but I guess I was just being a self-obsessed bitch” you say with you now looking down in shame.

“Y/N” he says with you still not meeting his eye “Y/N look at me” he lifted your chin up so you met his eye “It’s fine, It’s completely fine you didn’t know of course you didn’t know, how would you know of sex tape I unknowingly did back when I was 16!” he exclaims “Its fine, we’re good” he pulls you into a hug and kisses you on the forehead.

After you both calm down, Akaashi explains how Kiyoko started to blackmail him and how the agency loved the idea of them two being together (not the blackmailing) as it created a jealousy storyline between you and her and how every time they met she kept proposing ridiculous demands.

“Also, how did you know I ended doing the shoot?” he asks

“Oh a little bird told me” you tease  

“You mean a 6ft2 bird with blonde hair and a shit personality.” he retorts making you laugh  

“Heyy don’t be so mean, if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t of came to save the day.”

“True, I’d give him that.”

Eventually, you and Akaashi go to your agency and present all your evidence and claims that Kiyoko was blackmailing Akaashi. Although they were upset, that Akaashi did partake in a sex tape they knew that they’d be an even bigger scandal if you presented your news that Japans sweetheart Kiyoko Shimuzu was blackmailing Akaashi Keiji. So the agency thought it was in everyones best interest if they got Kiyoko to sign an NDA saying that she will never bring forth or share the Sex Tape to anyone and she’ll agree to be dropped from the agency.

Your life was great now, with Kiyoko off your back and Akaashi being back to his usual self you couldn’t wish for anything more. You ended up doing the shoot persuading the design brand person (whatever the name for it is) to agree to let you do the shoot together instead of with other people. Both brands let you, because who wouldn’t want Akaashi Keiji and L/N Y/N to do a shoot together?

1. Coffee shop AU: Who is the barista, and who frequents the coffee shop?

Suki is the barista and a struggling college student trying to juggle school and paying her bills at the same time. Azula is the rich girl who is in a lot of her classes. Suki is sort of familiar with the family. Her ex boyfriend (and current friend) Sokka’s sister, Katara is dating Azula’s, brother Zuko. And Zuko is cool, if not a little grumpy at times. Azula though…Suki is not a fan. She’s always come off as entitled and arrogant to her. But anyway Azula starts popping into the coffee shop during Suki’s shifts and at first Suki is annoyed at now having a regular customer that she isn’t really a fan of. But over time she realizes Azula isn’t all bad. Like Zuko she just has a severe lack of social skills due to the way she grew up. They start building up a kind of friendship and…Suki never realized it before but Azula is kind of hot??? And is she flirting with her???? One day at the coffee shop Azula awkwardly asks her out on a date and Suki surprises herself by immediately saying yes.

3. Rivals to loves AU: Who takes their rivalry seriously, and who is half in it just to push the other’s buttons?

Azula takes their rivalry seriously and Suki is half in it to push her buttons. They go to different high schools and are both the captains of their respective soccer teams. Suki’s team is the only team to have ever been able to beat Azula’s and Azula is determined each year to defeat her. Suki, while she too has a competitive streak, definitely plays up their rivalry because she enjoys riling Azula up. And if they tend to also flirt while on the field, that’s no one’s business but theirs.

6. Single parent AU: Which one is the single parent? (Alt. if they’re both single parents: Which one is open to starting a new relationship from the start? Which one is never planning on finding love again… Until they meet the other and are instantly smitten?)

Suki is the single parent. She has a five year old daughter with her fiancé Sokka, who tragically died in an accident three years ago. After his death Suki was so heartbroken that she resolved to never try to date again and instead focus on raising her and Sokka’s daughter to the best of her ability as a single mom. Azula is adjusting to living life on her own financially after she and her brother Zuko finally cut ties with their abusive father. She’s not only adjusting to being financially independent but also healing from the toxic way she grew up. She moves into her first apartment and it turns out, Suki and her daughter are her next door neighbors. Together they might be able to help each other heal from their tragic pasts.

7. Doctor AU: Which one is the long-suffering doctor? Which one is the patient?

Hmmm….don’t have a lot of thoughts on this one tbh. But to make things kind of twisty I think I’d make Azula the intimidating doctor and Suki the athlete who gets injured a lot and sent to Azula’s clinic. Each visit Suki continues to chip at her shell.

10. Childhood best friends AU: Which one was super obviously in love with the other the whole time? Who was oblivious until they were older?

Suki is the obviously in love one and Azula the oblivious one. Growing up, Azula is determined to live up to her family’s legacy and doesn’t really allow herself to dwell on more personal things. For example, romance and her sexuality. So because of that it takes her a while to realize she’s a lesbian and has been in love with her friend Suki the whole time. Suki meanwhile has pretty much always known she’s bi and in love with Azula. At one point in high school she confesses her feelings to Azula only to get rejected. But then once Suki starts dating other people Azula is like 👀 now wait a minute…and realizes she’s jealous.

Tony being jealous of Justin’s attention on Doom is HILARIOUS

Tony has been moping for like a week straight, and unintentionally showing just how not-straight he is to everyone around him because he hasn't shut up about "what does he have that I don't?" ever since Justin cancelled on him to spend time with Victor, and you're laughing.

...okay but seriously, yeah, it's entertaining as heck for anyone not personally invested.

Clint and Natasha have taken to sitting back and splitting a bag of popcorn when Tony gets going, partly because of the faces Tony makes, and partly because of how clumsily Bruce and Thor try to make him feel better— despite having drastically different ideas of why he's so moody.

Everything Bruce has said gives the impression that he thought those two were exes-now-rivals-but-it's-Complicated™, whereas Thor's sympathy about brothers who do things you can't understand is also very appreciated.

...Steve, meanwhile, seems to have bluescreened when Tony mentioned being bi and is still rebooting while trying to process that, and has taken to trawling through several decades' worth of trashy magazine articles because everyone thought Justin was straight but now thanks to this latest reveal, that might not have been the case?

It doesn't help that while Justin's fairly reserved, Tony tends to be physically affectionate with those he knows and likes and Justin tolerates the odd clap to the shoulder and side-hug with an amused look. Add to that the constant background speculation Justin's had to deal with, since he's all of two years older than Tony yet has not once expressed romantic interest in anyone, regardless of gender, and, well...

This latest revelation throws his and Tony's dynamic in a very different light, and now Steve's been grappling with why he's been feeling weird whenever Tony starts looking sad again?

Guys, a little help here? Please?

...aka yeah, this is the AU where some offhand comments may or may not have ended up giving Captain America a sexuality crisis, even as Tony's actual childhood-friend-and-nothing-more-complicated-than-that shows up and ends up clearing the air.

James Rhodes is the one who has to give them the "queerplatonic relationships" talk, because it's the best way he can explain the really weird and hard-to-define dynamic Justin and Tony have.

How their rivalry worked, and some of the rules of engagement he's picked up on over the years. How those two could be at each other's throats one minute, and the next Justin'd ask if Tony'd had lunch yet. The way they fiercely competed in the stock market [and everywhere else, for that matter], and the frankly ridiculous amounts of money Justin put into searching for Tony when he went missing in Afghanistan because, in his words, "can't win if there's nobody to compete against."

No, their dynamic still doesn't make sense to anyone else, but... they can kinda see it now? Maybe, if they squint?

At least, nobody's calling them exes anymore, that's something.

To add insult to injury, however, the entire debacle kinda ends up being a moot point when Victor von Doom loudly proclaims one of his classmates in grad school to be his one and only rival not long afterwards.

Tony doesn't know who this Richards guy is, but he is thankful he exists because whew, now the world makes sense again! Justin was his rival, now von Doom had his own and wouldn't try to steal his!

...then he actually meets Reed Richards and is immediately thankful about who his own rival is, even as he's torn between mentally drafting a letter of sympathy for Victor, and questioning him on his taste.

Really, von Doom? That guy? Sure, he was a genius, but... eh, whatever, not his problem.

At least Tony's rival was competent.

...and then later it turns out Justin and Victor are part of the same League of Evil, and oh, okay, yeah, seems legit. Annoying, sure, but that makes much more sense than what Tony'd been afraid of.

The Hawk X Demetri Manifesto

Okay, here is the thing. Despite being well past my teens, there's a particular ship of Cobra Kai that has drawn my attention, this ship being Hawk/Eli x Demetri. When I first watched the show, I was actually more invested in the adult characters storylines than the teens. I immediately rooted for Johnny and Carmen, and I was always hoping for more interactions between them. But then I saw episode 2x05, in which the atmosphere between the Binary Brothers becomes way more dense, and that's when I started to see some potential for them. Not because I'm a deranged person who fosters abusive relationships, but because I immediately caught the hurt/comfort dynamic of the duo, which is something that works really well when it comes to fictional relationships. However, it wasn't until 3x10 that I said, "Ok, that's official, I need to see more of these two! I totally support them!" And I was quite surprised to find a fairly large amount of people who are very committed to this pairing, to the point it's caught the attention of the screenwriters/producers as well. Honestly, I don't know if the showrunners will ever have the guts to make them an official couple, and chances are their supporters will have to keep reading between the lines of their bromance, but in any case, here is my take on why Hawk/Eli x Demetri is an option worth to be considered.

#1 - The Bromance

If there's something that many years of navigating the Internet taught me, is that the main driving factor for fan-made ships is the presence of either a solid relationship based on mutual brotherly love or a bitter rivalry that may or may not flow into hate/obsession. If you consider anime fandoms, there are thousand examples that fit into either of these categories: Yugi and Jonouchi from the Yu-Gi-Oh series (yes, that's how old I am), Yugi and Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh, Sakuragi and Rukawa from Slam Dunk, Light and L from Death Note, etc. And our Hawk and Demetri fit into both categories. When we first see them, they are the stereotypical nerdy friends (possibly childhood friends?) sitting at the losers' table, who have no one else but each other. When Eli is at his most sensitive and fragile, you can tell he feels comfortable being with Demetri by the genuine smile he has on his face as Demetri is joking with Miguel at the canteen table. Through his sarcasm, the mouthy kid acts as a catalyst to deviate the attention from Eli, speaking for him, reprimanding Johnny when he makes fun of his lip and trying to make him feel safe. Besides, you can see a certain degree of frustration in Demetri when Kyler and his gang are harassing Eli, and he's unable to do anything to defend him. And they even have a jingle for their friendship with a robot dance, I mean, how cute is that? But of course, a solid friendship between two helpless nerdy guys is not enough to spark a ship to be rooting for. In order for the magic to happen, another key ingredient is needed, i.e. a little bit of angst. Which brings us straight to the next point.

#2 - The Angst (aka the Hurt/Comfort Dynamic)

Even though I never liked the Twilight saga or any similar urban fantasy young adult works, I can easily see where the appeal comes from; the attraction to a charming, dangerous person who could either protect you from any harm or crush you like grape. Although with different franchises, I wasn't immune to the bad boy trope either (Yes, I'm looking at you, my teenage self drooling over Grimmjow from Bleach). If we can appreciate the genuine, brotherly friendship between nerdy Eli and Demetri, the shift that Eli makes as he transitions into Hawk and becomes more aggressive and dominant gives their relationship a totally different flavor. Attrition sparks a certain tension that, in the viewer's eyes, could either flow into a brawl or into passion.

During the mall fight, Demetri comes to the realization that his former best friend is actually someone who can crush him like grape. We see Hawk intentionally harming him for the first time, and Demetri's heartbreaking expression as he drops the line: "You'd actually hurt me?" And if that line gave us a pang in our hearts when we first watched Season 2, imagine rewatching it now that we know what happens in Season 3. Demetri is chased down the mall, running for his life, and then he's locked in a grip, as his best friend menacingly advances towards him. Demetri appears as the damsel in distress, however his friend is not the one who will fight to protect him, but rather his tormentor.

During the party at Moon's, Demetri manages to briefly go through Hawk's mask and reach out to Eli, thanks to a casual conversation about Dr Who. But then the beer incident happens, and Demetri defends himself with the only weapon he has – his loudmouth. The situation is reversed, and for a brief moment, he gets to be the dominant one as he discloses all Eli's most intimate secrets. Demetri is now actively contributing to the Hurt/Comfort dynamic; he's no longer just a target, but he's doing his part to enlarge that gaping hole that has formed between them. And Hawk didn't take it well.

From this moment on, Demetri becomes a sort of obsession to Hawk, who hunts him down the school, teasing him and taunting him sadistically, like a serial killer from a horror movie, during the big fight. Of course, in real life, this would be completely insane, and the police/a social assistant/psychiatrist should be called, but in ShipLand, these situations are pure gold. Okay, we get it, Hawk wants to get revenge for the humiliation at the party, and he wants to crush that nerd part of himself he sees in Demetri, but he does it with such an intensity that it borders on ridiculous. It's like this is his twisted way to acknowledge Demetri's presence. Eventually, Hawk ends up smashed into the trophy case, and I confess I felt a little disappointed when Demetri broke that hug to give Hawk a roundhouse kick. I mean, it was a great comeback, but I was sincerely hoping for a "No hard feelings man, let's get outta here!" scenario.

Getting back to the sick and twisted way Hawk acknowledges Demetri's presence, he destroys his science project after he got jealous due to him being confident in his nerd self and laughing around with his ex girlfriend (whom the writers insist he still has a crush on). Speaking of Moon, I have a feeling she likes Hawk mostly based on his badass appearance. Remember when she goes "I like this (mohawk) and I love these (muscles), but I'm not dating a bully"?

Then the football match happens. Okay, let's break this down. Demetri trips Hawk and acts all sassy, and a fellow Cobra Kai is immediately ready to take him down, but Hawk stops him. "Fight smart, he says". Too bad that literally 5 seconds earlier he had shoved a kid to the ground just because his ex girlfriend (again, duuuh~) ignored him when he winked at her. And then, as he's trying to intercept the ball, BANG, Hawk hits Demetri, sending him to the ground, pretending it was an accident. So, what does this tell us? That Hawk has some serious anger management issues? Yeah sure, but also that he cares about fighting smart only as long as it serves as an excuse to leave Demetri for him, because he's his designated target. Again, this is all but romantic, and it doesn't necessarily have to be interpreted as him lusting after his friend, but it's undeniable that this dynamic offers a lot of ship fuel.

The arm breaking thing is just too painful to even analyze. We see a completely helpless Demetri begging for mercy to his ex best friend, who has made No Mercy his life motto. And that scream, oh that scream. All I wanted to see was Hawk realizing what he had done and throwing himself on his knees while begging for forgiveness. But I'm glad that at least we get to see he feels awful for what he's done, and I like to think that, as he got home, Eli cried out all the tears he had in his body thinking about poor Demetri at the hospital, with a swollen broken arm, all because of him. Of all the situations, this is undoubtedly the most deranged and extreme, and if something like this happened in real life, the wrongdoer would deserve to be punished and would definitely need to be sent to therapy. But in ShipLand, this opens the road to many, many different scenarios, in which the bully understands his mistakes and shifts back to the good side, or the two share a tender moment after they reconcile, or the traumatized character has to to learn to trust the other one again, or the bully becomes overprotective of his former victim, etc.

#3 - A Rewarding Reconciliation

Finally, we come to the reconciliation, in which Hawk makes his heel-to-face turn. While we've seen him torn with doubt for an entire season about his sensei's teachings, his actions and the people he wants to surround himself with, the key factor that drives Hawk's redemption is the sight of his best friend being held down for him to beat. And with an epic stunt and his awesome KEEEH screech, Hawk jumps to the rescue of his friend. Like many of us, Demetri thought this was still part of the "Only I Can Torment Him" dynamic I discussed earlier, as he steps backwards a little concerned, but then he understands that action was actually meant to save him, and the two begin to fight side by side, in sync, watching each other's back. You can see Demetri's eyes sparkling at the thought of having his friend back.

Also, not only Demetri stands up to alpha bitch Tory in defense of Eli, but he also speaks for his friend when he's faltering, just like he used to. So kudos for Demetri.

#4 - The Red Oni, Blue Oni Dynamic

Binary Brothers are two sides of the same coin and complete each other with opposite character traits, visually expressed by the color red and the color blue. Being the color red typically associated with violence, rage, passion and irrationality, as opposed to blue, which is associated with calmness, melancholy and rationality, red is clearly the dominant color. Again, this opens many interesting scenarios for shippers.

#5 - Body Language

Besides the situations I described above, which may or may not be read from a romantic/attraction standpoint, there are also a collection of small gestures I noticed when rewatching the series with a more attentive look on their relationship.

- Demetri's heart-broken expression when Eli shamefully covers his lip during the anti-bullying announcement.

- The smile Demetri gives when Hawk responds "Hell yeah!" after Aisha proposes to crash Yasmin's party, implying he's learning to embrace this new wild side of his best friend

- The astonished look with which Demetri watches Hawk at the tournament and the way he's pissed no one knows his real name.

- How deeply hurt Demetri is when Hawk belittles him by saying: "Five against three. More like two and a half." He even tries to reply, but he's caught so off guard that words die in his throat.

- How Demetri takes a step towards Hawk during the mall fight, before Sam makes him back off, and how sadly he looks at Hawk's nearly unconscious body after Robby defeated him.

- How Demetri smiles and nods when he briefly connects with Eli at Moon's party, despite the mall incident.

- How Hawk watches Demetri juggle with the cleaning product from behind his bike helmet (how did he stuff the mohawk in there by the way)?

- Hawk's psychotic/sadistic faces when he smells Demetri's blood, and how he likes to hunt him down like he's his prey.

- Hawk's secret impulse to comfort Demetri after the arm breaking (I hope you get nightmares of Demetri's howl of pain for the rest of your life, Hawk).

- The way Hawk twitches his upper lip when he sees his friend Demetri in danger.

- How Hawk and Demetri are so absorbed in their new-found friendship, that they're caught off guard, and Demetri swings Hawk to allow him to deliver a kick using their handshake as a lever. And how they keep fighting together, shaking each other's hands even when they're out of focus and the attention is on Miguel vs. Kyler.

- How they're standing so close at Miyagi Do, in comparison with the other Red/Blue partners.

In conclusion, this kind of relationships are engaging and entertaining to watch, and they make us wish the best for the characters. They make us hope that, in the end, as Miguel puts it, love really conquers all (and what is friendship if not a form of love?), despite all the hurt they did to each other.

Both are frequent customers, and their relationship starts when the shop is otherwise empty except for that one annoying customer and they give each other A Look and make faces at each other, trying not to laugh and piss off that customer even more. They definitely have a bet on when the two baristas end up together, completely oblivious to the fact that they and most of the regulars have that same bet about them.

Highschool/College AU: Who is the straight-A student, and who’s the backrow slacker?

Both have pretty good grades, but Allison is the one who actually studies regularly, while Stiles either doesn't care or pulls an all nighter the night before the exam.

Rivals to loves AU: Who takes their rivalry seriously, and who is half in it just to push the other’s buttons?

It depends on why they're rivals probably. But they're both ridiculously competitive over everything and push each other's buttons relentlessly. Everyone who doesn't know them is terrified.

Enemies to lovers AU: Which one switches sides?

Canon would suggest Allison, but I'm also too fond of good omens to not say they ditch the entire conflict and make their own side.

Soulmate AU: Who is eager to meet their soulmate? Who absolutely does not want to meet their soulmate?

Both. And neither. They want what it represents, they don't want the baggage that comes with it.

Allison is too much of a romantic to not want this, Stiles is ride or die for the few people he cares about, and he knows that his soulmate would be one of them, that they would do the same for him.

But Allison knows that even if she meets them in high school, her parents wouldn't care and they'd move again soon anyway, and her parents are soulmates, but it's not the fairytale romance she wants. Stiles parents were that couple, before his mom got sick and Stiles saw what it did to his dad, losing her. And he knows himself well enough that he knows he couldn't handle losing his dad or Scott, much less the person he's made for.

Single parent AU: Which one is the single parent? (Alt. if they’re both single parents: Which one is open to starting a new relationship from the start? Which one is never planning on finding love again… Until they meet the other and are instantly smitten?)

I— can't actually picture them as parents together. Friends to accidental parents to lovers? Sure.

But if I had to? Stiles has a just old enough to start archery daughter, and Allison becomes her teacher.

If they both have kids? The kids met at preschool, and immediately decided that they were best friends, and stallison spend a lot of time together by proxy. Stiles' ex left him soon after his kid was born, Allison moved into town because hers left her not too long ago. So Stiles is used to being the only parent/to not have to factor in anyone else when making decisions, Allison isn't going to put either herself or her kid through having someone else leave them again, so both are against starting a relationship.

Doesn't stop them from becoming friends, though. Or the kids from having a lot of play dates/sleepovers. And it becomes natural for one of them to pick up both kids after school, and plan most day trips together, and do start co-parenting to some degree without ever acknowledging it.

Everyone's happy, they have each other's keys and live close enough that it's not completely uncommon for either of them to just let themselves in (because someone can't remember where he left his stuff. Stiles would like to state for the record that Allison was the one who started it.)

Nothing hurts, they're one happy family, until Allison's kid ends up in the hospital and only family is allowed to see them, Stiles kid is with the sheriff, and Stiles hovers uselessly in the waiting room, because they're his family, dammit. And he want this, them, for as long as they'll have him.

They've known each other for over a year, and probably do something impulsive like get married as soon as her, their, kid is okay again, before they even had their first kiss.

Doctor AU: Which one is the longsuffering doctor? Which one is the patient?

Human AU, Stiles is obviously the one who comes into the ER at least twice a month with increasingly weird injuries, and Allison's the amused, and slightly worried, doctor.

Hunter/Stiles finds out AU, Allison ends up in the ER after a hunt, Stiles is there for Melissa/other job because I can't imagine him as a doctor, and somehow starts talking to her to avoid his responsibilities. Allison has a concussion/is on too many pain meds and can't really think coherently, and tells him what really happened. Stiles doesn't believe a word but is entertained, has to leave eventually, Chris picks up Allison. Until Stiles gets chased by that same monster, gets rescued by Allison and has an oh fuck moment.

Bodyguard AU: Who is the bodyguard? Who are they protecting? Which one is secretly pining for the other?

Stiles is the bodyguard, but it's Allison who kicks the bad guy's ass at the end. Stiles is probably also the one who is slightly drugged and makes hearteyes at Allison for the entire way home. Allison is the one who secretly pines for him because he doesn't just see her as Chris' daughter (or worse, Gerard's granddaughter) who needs to be protected at all cost (idk I'm picturing human AU in which the Argents are wealthy and relatively well known => threatened a lot, but Allison still doesn't know much about what they actually do) but rather her own person. Who can kick his ass. Allison is still either into weapons or martial arts, and they have a sparring-session-turned-love-confession post kidnapping.

Pirate AU: Who is the pirate? Who is the member of the royal family who did not sign up for this?

Allison is the princess turned pirate who just keeps accidentally kidnapping other royals. Well, the kidnappings are on purpose, that they all somehow end up joining her crew? Not so much. Stiles did not sign up for this but he's into it once he gets over the whole kidnapping thing.

(The crew Allison originally joined kidnapped and was trying to kill Lydia, so Allison got her out of there and they started doing their own thing. They were definitely dating at some point and this might turn into Stiles/Allison/Lydia. Isaac is there, too. Also Peter, because I love their dynamic. They're known for kidnapping royals, no one ever seems to recognize any of the crew.)

Now a bit about the characters and plot surrounding them:

Taishō Inuyasha

The second son of the deceased Taishō Tōga and thus the younger half-brother of Taishō Sesshōmaru. Inuyasha never got to meet his father as Tōga died on the very same night he was born, in a fire at the family's company; until he was about 8 years old he was raised by his mother, Izayoi, and didn't have much contact with the remaining family of his father even though both sons, wife and ex-wife were at Tōga's will. Eventually, Izayoi passed away due to an illness and at the time Tōga's ex-wife, Inukimi, stepped in and took the orphaned boy in order to raise him, her only explanation was that she couldn't bear to see Tōga's son be put in an orphanage while he still had family that could take care of him. Inuyasha never understood if that's how she truly felt but nevertheless was treated and raised normally along his half-brother despite the bad relationship between the two.During his teen days, Inuyasha began dating a girl named Higurashi Kikyō but not long after their romance began, Kikyō was kidnapped and disappeared for 10 years, leaving Inuyasha heartbroken and desperate to find her.Through the years he spent searching for Kikyō, despite the authorities stating that most likely she was dead, Inuyasha became close to one of Kikyō's younger sisters, Higurashi Kagome. Feelings began developing between them despite both stating they shouldn't as it would be a betrayal to Kikyō. Eventually, 9 years after Kikyō's disappearence, the two set on an informal relationship.One day, to everyone's shock, Kikyō appeared at the Higurashi's doorstep but she seemed to have lost her memory of what had happened during the 10 years she was missing. After this, Inuyasha began feeling torn between his feelings for the two Higurashi sisters, as he still loved Kikyō and wanted to help her recover her memory but at the same time, also loved Kagome and couldn't bear see her getting hurt despite her stating that she understood and didn't want to hurt her sister either.

Taishō Sesshōmaru

The first son of the deceased Taishō Tōga and thus the older half-brother of Taishō Inuyasha. Sesshōmaru was only 4 years old when he lost his father although at the time they had grown distant with each other as Sesshōmaru never accepted his parents' divorce despite it having been a peaceful one, he also didn't accept how quickly Tōga re-married and had another son with his second wife. With his father's passing, Sesshōmaru's bad feelings towards his father passed down to his younger brother whom he avoided all the time, pretending he didn't exist.When Sesshōmaru was 12 years old, his mother announced to him that Inuyasha would start living with them, as his mother had just passed away, much to Sesshōmaru's dislike. Neither he or Inuyasha attempted to hide their dislike for each other.He was angry that part of the Taishō Company had been given to Inuyasha as part of the heirloom but as his brother never showed great interest in the family's business, the two rarely fought about it. Despite the animosity between the two brothers,  Sesshōmaru still showed some kind of support when Kikyō disappeared mysteriously and during some time paid for the searches in secret.Once he stepped in as the new head of the Taishō Company, Sesshōmaru inherited as well the rivalry with the Makai Family and was constantly at odds with the, at the time, head of the Makai Company, Makai Onigumo, whom Sesshōmaru knew was corrupt down to his core. At some point, he began receiving information about the inside of the Makai Company from none other than Onigumo's assistant, Fūjin Kagura.Eventually, Sesshōmaru learned of the sudden arrest of Onigumo and not long after that had his first meeting with the new head of the Makai Company, to his surprise it was none other than a child, Onigumo's eldest son, Makai Hakudōshi, who had been the responsible for his father's fall. The boy told him that he wished to start over the relationship between the Taishō and the Makai companies and end with the animosity between both, Sesshōmaru did not fully trust the boy and although he accepted, he continued to investigate the Makai Family in secret.About 11 years prior to this situation, Sesshōmaru became suddenly the legal guardian and adoptive father of Asano Rin, whom after the adoption became official had her surname changed to Taishō.

Taishō (Asano) Rin

Rin is the adopted daughter of Taishō Sesshōmaru. Originally, Rin was born to Asano Sara, a close and childhood friend of Sesshōmaru who was actually in love with him despite it being one-sided. Sara had always been a fragile woman and after some time married a man with whom her father had arranged marriage; love didn't really exist in that marriage, her husband was often aggressive with her and when she learned of her pregnancy, Sara wrote a will in which she left the custody of her unborn child to Sesshōmaru if something were to happen to her.Not long after Rin's birth, Sara succumbed to her fragile health and passed away, hoping though that her daughter would be able to have a peaceful life with Sesshōmaru as her father. Sesshōmaru learned of Sara's passing and visited the newborn girl at the hospital, there Sara's lawyer came to him and announced what was written on Sara's will, much to the man's surprise. At first he didn't accept, as the baby girl had a father of her own but eventually accepted once he learned how Rin's biological father truly was. The man never really fought for the custody of his daughter.Rin was then adopted and officially became Sesshōmaru's sole heir as the man never married nor had children of his own. Rin is currently in Junior High School where she is friends with other children around her age like Fūjin Kanna, Taijiya Kohaku and Kitsunebi Shippo.

Taishō Inukimi

Sesshōmaru's mother and Taishō Tōga's first wife. Tōga's and Inukimi's marriage was arranged by both their families, the two respected and treated each other well but both were aware that there was no love in their marriage, nor their families expected there to be. Therefor the two agreed that both would do their part, Tōga would marry her and Inukimi would bear him a child, just as their families wanted, afterwards both agreed to "free" each other of the marriage as long Tōga put their son in his will.Although the divorce was never made official, hence why Inukimi continues using her husband's surname, the two were officially separated and kept a formal and polite relationship with each other. Inukimi eventually learned of Tōga re-marrying another woman named Izayoi, this time out of love, and that the two were expecting a child. Not long before Inuyasha was born, Tōga came to Inukimi and asked her to take in his unborn child if something were to happen to him and Izayoi. Although she suspected Tōga knew more than he was letting her know, she agreed. Despite how their marriage quickly vanished, Inukimi was still devastated at Tōga's sudden death, suspecting that the fire at the Taishō Company had not been a normal one.Although her promise to Tōga had been to take in Inuyasha if something were to happen to both him and Izayoi, Inukimi would pay visits to the young woman at least once a year. Eventually, 8 years after Tōga's passing, his second wife followed him which left their son orphaned. Inukimi took in the boy as promised but never truly revealed to the child or her son the promise that had been made between her and her ex-husband.Inukimi wants the best for the Taishō Company, in which she is Second in Command, and was present at the meeting with the young Makai Hakudōshi when the alliance between the two companies was proposed. Later, in private, Inukimi told Sesshōmaru to accept the proposal and then made a proposal herself: to promise Rin as Hakudōshi's future wife in order to strengthen the alliance. Sesshōmaru, however, immediately refused for many reasons:He didn't want Rin to go through the same situation as her biological mother and even more because he didn't trust the Makai Family, therefor he didn't want them anywhere close to his daughter.

I love those tropes where peeps get stuck in their own dreams and someone has to help them snap out of it. This fic does this wonderfully with Lance and I loved Keith’s dream in here, it was so sweet

i wrote these at 2am when i was feeling messy so here’s a list of plots based on actual drama that i witnessed while in college

MUSE A and MUSE B meet through a mutual friend and hit it off well. they all gradually become best friends, but eventually MUSE A and MUSE B start flirting until they're joking about hooking up. MUSE A has had some experience, but is a virgin and is definitely not as experienced as MUSE B who is notorious for their hookups. it's all fun and games at first until MUSE B starts getting possessive when MUSE A goes out on dates, and MUSE A gets angry when MUSE B tells them about who they hooked up with. but, they don't want to mess with the friendship they have with their mutual friend, which leads to a lot of sneaking around, lots of pining and jealousy, and essentially a complicated will they won't they relationship.

MUSE A and MUSE B meet during orientation and connect so well, they end up hooking up, MUSE B unknowingly taking MUSE A’s virginity. although they live far from each other, they text everyday and only grow closer. once the semester starts, MUSE A soon discovers one of their best friends is dating MUSE B. MUSE A tells MUSE B they can never hook up again, but it only leads to MUSE B hitting up MUSE A at 3am just like they always used to. they try to stay as platonic as possible, but soon enough they start hooking up again, which only leads to more and more feelings, heartbreak, and sadness.

as two of the smartest students in their class, MUSE A and MUSE B soon inevitably start an academic rivalry. due to seemingly being opposites, they constantly challenge each other, yet when they aren’t having mini debates, they have late night study sessions and deep conversations. soon enough, MUSE A starts having feelings and impulsively asks MUSE B out on a date. MUSE B accepts, but only as friends, since MUSE B is still hung up over their ex. MUSE A is understanding, and they go on their date, which ends up in a good night, a walk home, and a hug goodbye. eventually, MUSE A starts to move on and starts dating someone else, but MUSE B realizes they actually have feelings for them and now has to figure out whether they should say fuck it and go for it, or just give up.

MUSE A and MUSE B were part of the same friend group in high school, but they all end up going to different colleges. when they come back home for winter break, MUSE A realizes they’ve always had feelings for MUSE B. one of their mutual friends finds out, and immediately tells MUSE B without MUSE A’s knowledge. at the same time, MUSE B tells the group chat that they’re in a relationship with someone back in college. eventually summer comes around and MUSE B tells the group chat they got dumped. MUSE A still doesn’t know that MUSE B knows how they feel, and they’re both in an awkward state of cautiously flirting in fear of rejection and messing with the friend group dynamic.

they met when they were five and grew up as childhood friends. they’re each other’s first hand hold, first kiss, and first best friend. until suddenly MUSE A moves away, and MUSE B thinks they’ll never see the other again after they lose contact. finally, years later, they run into each other and realize they’re in the same school, with the same major, and live in the same building. MUSE A wonders if MUSE B remembers how they always said they would get married when they were younger. as they reconnect, MUSE A realizes they really wouldn’t mind that still happening, but is too afraid to say anything, especially with MUSE B constantly friendzoning MUSE A, only because MUSE B thinks MUSE A would never see them in that way.

the summer before the semester starts, MUSE A impulsively goes on tinder and meets the older but very attractive MUSE B. MUSE A tells them about how they want some experience before they start / go back to college, so they decide to meet and hook up. initially they plan for it to be a one time thing, but they end up having a good time and have an instant connection. soon, they start a sort of friends with benefits relationship, where MUSE B teaches them new things and MUSE A gets in plenty of practice. when fall rolls around and MUSE A goes back to school, their roommate warns them of their parent who visits them practically every weekend. they soon discover that MUSE B is their roommate’s parent.

MUSE A is incredibly low on funds, especially considering they are far from being well off, and doesn’t think they’ll even be able to go to college. trying to make them feel better, their friends take MUSE A out to a bar, where they meet MUSE B, who buys them a drink. eventually, MUSE A rants about their financial struggles, and MUSE B tries to console them, which leads to them dancing, and they end up going home together. MUSE A wakes up to the sight of cash on the bedside table. confused, MUSE A starts to protest and tells them they never do one night stands. but MUSE B tells them it doesn’t have to be a one time thing, and if they keep spending time / hooking up together, MUSE A will get however much money they need. desperate, MUSE A accepts, which only leads to suppressed feelings and their friends assuming that they’re together.

MUSE A flies out for summer to another state to spend time with their long distance friend. when they’re on their flight back home, they’re stuck in a middle seat between a giddy girl in the aisle seat who is glued to her phone, and in the window seat is the older MUSE B. soon enough, MUSE A knocks out and when they wake up, they realize they’re leaning on the shoulder of MUSE B. MUSE A apologizes profusely but receives a compliment instead, and soon enough they start a conversation. they hit it off, and once the plane lands, they hook up in the airport bathroom. MUSE A doesn’t think they’ll ever see them again, until they go back to their classes, and they soon discover that MUSE B is the spouse of one of their teachers.

MUSE A and MUSE B meet in college and quickly become best friends. they do everything together, from buying each other breakfast to late night homework sessions, and they can’t help but constantly flirt. it doesn’t mean anything, though, since MUSE A is in a relationship with someone else. until one day MUSE A accidentally sends MUSE B a nude, and it eventually leads to them sending each other pictures and videos back and forth. the next day, they speak nothing of it, and it’s never spoken of again. eventually, MUSE A soon discovers that their parents are kicking them out and won’t have anywhere to stay for the summer. MUSE B offers their tiny apartment, they’ll have to sleep in the same bed. since it’s their only option, MUSE A accepts.

MUSE A and MUSE B start out as friends who smoked each other out. it was simply that with a conversation here and there and late night drives, until MUSE A gets ahold of some alcohol. they drunkenly hook up, and soon after that, it’s only a matter of time before they hook up again, and again, and a few more times after that. MUSE A doesn’t know what they are, so they decide to find out for themselves and confront MUSE B at their dorm. when the door opens, they’re met face to face with someone who claims to be MUSE B’s partner from back home. MUSE A vows to never speak to MUSE B ever again, until they soon discover that they’re pregnant.

jack’s favorite show, to holster’s complete and utter surprise, is actually Arrested Development. he loves seeing awkward family dynamics become funny rather than stressful and the way michael always comes back home is actually pretty inspiring to him? he also loves Buster and every now and again will hand holster something random (usually a baby goat tbqh) and he’ll say, completely deadpan, “Would a coward have this?” and Holster immediately gets the reference and says “What the hell is that?” to which Jack replies, “These are my awards, Mother. From army. The goat is for marksmanship.” He never finishes the quote because Holster’s laughing way, way too hard.

bitty and ransom started dating when they were both attending Brown University during bitty’s sophomore year and ransom’s junior year. they met in a digital marketing class and ended up working on a project together. it was a disaster. ransom’s anxiety vs bitty’s adhd-fueled procrastination was the battle of the century and surprise: they both lost. then bitty feels terrible because ransom’s freaking out about failing this assignment so he starts bringing him food while he studies and generally makes sure he survives tests and quizzes and by the end of the semester they’re actually friends. then, they attend a party after finals are over and get down n dirty on the dance floor and hook up. but gasp!! ransom has an early flight and has to fly back to canada before they can define the relationship!! then they spend the summer pining and have this big reunion when they get back to campus and they’ve been together ever since. both of them end up with communications degrees (although ransom double majors in biology).

jack and holster first met when holster was 16 and jack was 17 because they played for rival junior hockey teams. jack played in the US in this verse instead of the Q but he has all the same canon stress about the draft. instead of the press focusing on the jack/parse partnership they focus on rivalries, both between the US and Canada and within the US junior hockey teams themselves. so jack’s stressed as fuck and also alone, plus there’s this fucking defenseman who plays for a rival team who won’t. let. him. score. meanwhile, holster sees jack as this entitled asshole who he cannot allow to score under any circumstances. they almost come to blows even though junior hockey is super against fighting and they’d probably get suspended. they’re both in contention for the top spots in the draft (plus this guy named kent parson who plays in the Q) and the rivalry gets more and more intense when holster has a series of terrible concussions. the first one isn’t so bad but he goes back on the ice before he’s healed because his coaches tell him he has to “fight through it” in order to stay at the top of the draft, and then he almost immediately gets a second, more severe one. he can’t play for the rest of the season and actually makes the decision to drop out of the draft entirely because playing professional hockey is suddenly way too dangerous if he wants to avoid CTE (he’s also had some concussions in the past for some reasons i won’t get into now but suffice to say his brain can’t take much more damage). he goes to college and during the summers he works on his aunt’s farm and absolutely loves it, so after he graduates he starts working with her full time. jack also drops out of the draft because of his overdose and makes the decision to quit hockey for his mental health. he goes to college and majors in history and gets a job working for the archives at brown university, but he thinks he’d like another hobby, and one of his uncles (read: ex nhl superstar) started beekeeping and after shadowing him for a few visits Jack decides to start his own colonies. the only thing is, he’s particular about where he wants to place them, so he goes to a biodynamic farming conference to try to meet farmers that share his quality standards and GASP when he walks into the conference there’s Adam Birkholtz, who’s as tall and broad as Jack remembers him but it’s not intimidating like it used to be - other feelings are cropping up now and Jack pushes them as far down as they’ll go. Jack honestly tries to avoid him but then it becomes a question of meeting new people vs. confronting someone he used to know and both options sound stressful and as he’s trying to figure out what to do Adam looks up from the woman he’s talking to and they suddenly make eye contact. The rules of social obligation state that they have to talk to each other. Jack makes his way over, assuming they’ll have a two minute catch-up and then he’ll be on his way. Instead they talk for the rest of the conference and Jack ends up renting some of Holster’s land for his hives to live on. he finds himself on Holster’s farm every weekend, and even comes back more than he has to during the winter to check up on his hives. He starts coming every other week, then every weekend, then twice a week, and then one day he just stops leaving.

the zimmerparents LOVE the farm. they never once expected their son to end up living and working on a small dairy farm in rhode island but they’re thrilled that he’s happy and stable. there’s one small issue, though: bob is terrified of bees. alicia throws on the hat and dives right in (she stays with them during every honey harvest and helps out) but bob is Not Fond of all jack’s little friends. It’s hilarious to watch him and Jack talk about beekeeping because Bob’s super invested in Jack’s life/business/interests but the second Jacks’ like “here, i’ll just show you” bob is OUT. He only goes near the hives wearing full gear and thinks Jack is the Bravest Human Ever. they come down to the farm several times a year and the first couple times holster was Star Struck by both of them because he was in love with both of Jack’s parents at one point in time so having them both there in his house is overwhelming. Jack is mortified that his partner had posters of both his parents up in his childhood bedroom. 

holster makes the argument for a mini horse about once a month but jack, in true ben wyatt form, doesn’t get the hype. he also knows that holster would sing “5,000 candles in the wind” every single day and jack loves him but he just can’t handle that. he can’t. it’s too much to ask from one person, okay?

Feature: Breakup Revisited

What does it mean to be a fan of a Sports team? How does one breakup with their team? Two years ago I asked these questions in a prolonged blog of grievance. I started with an analysis of fan loyalty I thought was pretty thoughtful at the time before launching off into a diatribe about the awful year of 2017 American Soccer had and New York City Football Club. Quite a bit has changed since then and well I don’t feel inclined to get back with my Ex I think what I wrote is worth revisiting.

Fans and their loyalty

What it means to support a sports team comes down to loyalty. Or at least that’s the first core principle I underlined in my original diatribe. Loyalty in fact works in a few different ways. While we do shun folks we believe are bandwagon fans, unless your parents raised you from childhood in the lore of your team everyone starts out as a bandwagoner. For those of us who are not bred into supporting a team our loyalty is founded on something or someone we’re being loyal to. My family is a great example of this. We grew up solidly in Buffalo Bills territory, but we weren’t indoctrinated as children. My father was a Kansas City Chiefs fan going back to the late 1960s and my mom supported the Indianapolis Colts then the Denver Broncos because she loved Peyton Manning. For us supporting each of those clubs was allegiance originally founded by loyalty to a player or a set of memories associated with a club. When it’s not loyalty to a club you were raised to support it’s loyalty to a person within a club or a set of memories associated with that club.

Then of course there is comradery. In the example of my family my dad didn’t seek out other Chiefs fans locally as much as he looked for other NFL fans to talk about the Chiefs with. My uncle supports the Oakland… Las Vegas Raiders? …never mind, we’ll come back to that. My dad loved pitting his Chiefs against his cousin’s Raiders. That was the fun they had with it. That was the comradery that sports gave them. This is a different comradery then the kind that pulls dozens or hundreds of American Liverpool supporters into bars and pubs to cheer on a team on another continent. For them the comradery is very much about coming together as fans sharing a team. That kind of comradery is why Buffalo Bills fans sing in the midst of the snowstorm games: it’s everyone together supporting the same team. It’s something of a campfire experience. The differences between these two kinds of comradery do exist and have cultural roots but for the way they affect the underlying loyalty they’re not really important here.

This section in my original breakup had one more point: representation. This is where I think the cultural roots and the distinction between kinds of comradery do become important. Let’s go back to the example of my dad. He loves Buffalo Wings. Whenever he visits me in Buffalo he looks for a place to eat Buffalo Wings. He has said to me that he likes that Buffalo is associated with Buffalo Wings more than he likes that Rochester, New York, the City he grew up in, is associated with this dish we call the Garbage Plate. Take that how you will but it’s an interesting example of representation, in this case concerning food. Pretend those two foods are sports teams (like the local baseball affiliates actually did recently) and you have my dad yearning to be a fan of the team an hour down the road over his hometown. If that were the case would we consider him a bandwagoner who betrayed his home team? While the easy answer is Yes I’ve learned since the original blog post here that there is a strong case for No.

My dad feels Buffalo Wings more closely emulate his food tastes, therefore his preference for Wings over Garbage Plates arise. To be fair my dad can throw back a Garbage Plate like nobody’s business but he’s not a disloyal turncoat for preferring Buffalo Wings. Now I realize the metaphor breaks down a little bit when you consider sports teams literally need your money to survive and foods rarely go extinct. We’re blessed in these United States of America to have access to a wide range of top-level sports; more so than any other single nation on earth. We have top level athletes and organizations in all of Basketball, American Football, Baseball and Hockey to just name the most obvious. That’s a unique situation that allowed my dad to support the far-away Kansas City Chiefs back in the 1970s without being chastised by his local peers. This North American uniqueness in sports and the financial dependence of sports teams on their fans places the matter of representation squarely in the hands of the consumers in these parts. As a sports team you craft what your unique taste is. Often that taste involves flavors of the local; but if you grow big enough you’ll inevitably turn into a buffet with fans from far and wide coming to fill up. Even in Europe where Soccer has long been king of the hill there are the super-teams that have managed to grow into sprawling international buffets: Juventus, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Barcelona and yes: Liverpool.

Every sports team dreams of growing to be a buffet that represents I diverse group of people if not for any other reason than to get all their money. The decision always remains in the hands of the consumer when it comes to this growth. Representation, or the degree to which a sports team truly represents you, is up to you. In the age of the internet it’s super easy to try out other tastes. I think some of the angst in my original piece was anger directed at NYCFC and or MLS because I didn’t quite grasp that the Rochester Rhinos are my soccer taste regardless of the fact they are based in the City I was born in. I couldn’t separate those two facts and now I can. The Rhinos are my visual aesthetic on top of historically being in the Top Ten greatest sports underdog stories of all-time. I liked the Rhinos deep down with or without the Rochester part. That’s the deeper reality of the representation point. I’ve also found comradery with other Rhinos fans as well as harboring a real sense of loyalty moored in both being raised on that team and really loving Jochen Graf absolutely chip the ever-loving daylights out of goalkeepers the USL over. Call me cocky but I think I’ve figured out the dynamics of fans and their loyalty a whole lot more since my first sports team Breakup.

Branding: Franchise Issues

That said, NYCFC can still pipe down. I don’t need Nazi-loving smurfs downstate telling me what good soccer is. Five Boroughs this Five Boroughs that, we’re the team that actually plays in New York City. All that crap can disappear right out of my life for all I care. Another part of the original Breakup piece was loosely connected to the representation piece we already discussed. In this case regional rivalry comes into play. Part of what fueled my breakup with NYCFC was something everyone born and raised in this State north of Yonkers can relate to: hating New York City. The joke is when you tell someone from out-of-state you’re from New York they immediately think of Midtown Manhattan. I am not from Midtown Manhattan. I don’t know the difference between Soho and Greenwich Village. I grew up in the Finger Lakes where you’re probably closer to an epic hike than a slice of New York style pizza.

Of course the regionalism in New York State is more than Pizza and Wine, it’s politics, taxes and government. Those palpable differences always made my feelings for NYCFC kinda awkward. Regionalism isn’t the sole reason we broke up but when that club hammered home at every available turn that they cared about the five boroughs of NYC and those five boroughs alone it made me feel a lot less guilty pulling the trigger on the breakup. It’s funny because there were moments following NYCFC felt really authentic. Somethings about the branding didn’t piss me off. The logo in particular is flatly appealing to me. My late grandfather was a very avid New York Yankees fan after growing up in Connecticut. Being exposed to that logo so much as a child may have predisposed me to the way NYCFC put together their badge.

But I don’t need to get into my childhood psychology to nail down why I don’t regret breaking up with NYCFC. In the two years since my breakup they’ve continued to lose in the early rounds of the playoffs and fail to look like anything more than a colony franchise for Manchester City. Those are the competitive realities. The supporter realities are that long before Major League Soccer was cracking down on anti-fascist signage NYCFC was failing to kickout neo-Nazis and their evil chants. That shit is unforgivable. For how long this section was in the original piece I guess the branding issues that pissed me off originally are a foregone conclusion now. Every discussion of soccer in this state has an acute chance of going into the inauthenticity of the two Major League Soccer teams downstate these days. Look at that! I was ahead of the curve!

Aloof: League Issues

Unlike my resolve against NYCFC only becoming firmer since the breakup, my feelings on Major League Soccer are still very conflicted. To say the Rochester Rhinos are in the desperate straits they are now just because the MLS of 2006 decided to play hard ball with owners who were in over their heads financially is a half-truth. Yes, when you spoon feed your supporters MLS berth as an inevitability for a decade then they’re going to be pissed when it doesn’t happen. That miss will always sting. But those owners were in fact in over their heads financially. History is pretty clear on that. In spite of what some may tell you Rob Clark coming along didn’t revitalize the organization. The Rhinos didn’t fall to where they are today because they weren’t fun to watch. Save for 2011 they were in championship form pretty much non-stop. If the Rhinos don’t survive long enough for my kids to be fans as well they’ll always live on as the best professional soccer team in American history to me.

Nonetheless I think Don Garber and the folks who have been running Major League Soccer since the late 90s are guilty of jealousy and being downright uncreative. The jealousy of the National Football League, a league whose owners also own several MLS franchises, has caused the league to have a single-minded focus on a model that works a whole lot better when you’re the only game in town. The NFL has all the best American Football talent and its not even close. NFL is one of the most profitable entertainment products in the world in no small part because of that monopoly on talent. Except for four franchises whom are all being attended to by the Shield, an NFL franchise is guaranteed money. Not a single MLS franchise is making nearly NFL money. We can talk about growth trajectories and demographic shifts all day, but I don’t have an MBA and I don’t do well debating numbers.

MLS has created an environment in soccer in this country where what happened to the Rhinos is the standard. Let me tell you, that shit sucked, even from a distance. If you’re lucky enough to be a top 50 growth market population wise that may work well for you but over the next two years we’ll watch St. Louis FC, a USL club with a whole culture and history unto itself gets buried underneath an avalanche of plastic, ready-made MLS branding that will be viewed as superior by the American consumer just because it’s MLS. Sacramento too. If you’re a soccer team outside of the desirous gaze of MLS in this country your days are numbered unless you’re a two side and in that case what the hell are you really? It all feels very plastic and that’s before we even talk about how even the better MLS organizations still need to speak out of two sides of their mouth because of the ever-present neo-conservative thought police running the league. If MLS isn’t ruining authentic American Soccer than it is certainly making it work hard to keep breathing.

The MLS is uncreative. I believe that. But: I love soccer too much to climb into a hole and ignore the domestic topflight trying to give a shit about the UEFA Champions League. I’m trying really hard to get interested in English Premier League right now but no amount of Christian Pulisic is going to make me care more about the EPL or Serie A or Bundesliga or the friggin Barcelona-Real Madrid La Liga than what’s going on domestically. The MLS product is as exciting as a middle-of-the-road coaches’ challenge in the National Hockey League. That’s mildly rousing at best if you’re not familiar with the hockey reference. MLS is trying so hard to be NFL and appeasing plutocrats with tax incentives that it would never dream of using one of the things that makes the sport of soccer unique: promotion and relegation, to make its plastic ass summer league vastly more interesting! While I don’t think the Save the Crew situation that prompted a lot of this section in my original breakup article is truly a matter of social justice like some Pro/Rel diehards would have you believe, that wrapping up the way it did didn’t help my opinion of Major League Soccer. Just because the NFL can move the Oakland Raiders... *checks Wikipedia* three times, does not mean that it’s the ideal business model. Building loyalty, comradery and representation among a group of potential fans can come across fake very easily. Just ask any fan of Soccer in North Carolina right now as they read rumors of MLS coming to their neck of the woods.

My issues with MLS as a league remain just like the shame I feel as an American Soccer fan about the non-qualification for the 2018 World Cup. There isn’t a neat through line between domestic soccer issues and the national team. I didn’t realize that two years ago when I originally wrote this. Funny enough, the US Men’s National Team hasn’t looked much better while the Women win another World Cup only to be denied equal pay by the same federation. Supporting any club within a league with as many issues as MLS is hard but the old club over league saying cuts both ways. While the Pro/Rel advocates seem to think franchises and clubs cannot be mentioned in the same breath the functionality from a fan perspective isn’t different enough to really matter. Therefore I’ve come to a point of acceptance with MLS, especially this year. While the overall league will continue to be revolting in many ways if the right club *cough* *cough* franchise comes along, I’ve grown open to a new MLS relationship after my breakup with NYCFC.

Breakup: Insert Taylor Swift lyric here

This final section was the briefest in the original Breakup. While my breakup with NYCFC remains Taylor Swift’s “We are never ever getting back together”, there is a new song that you could insert into the header here, this time for a new relationship. This time it’s not a Taylor Swift song at all. It’s Wonderwall. I already listed all the specifics of breaking up with NYCFC, wished them the best and what not like a polite breakup. Now it’s time to talk about how I’ve decided to be happier.

The Rochester Rhinos are... not in great shape. While a second year of haitus was frustrating a third year stands to be outright fatal. The only real example of an American Soccer team going on haitus and coming back better for it is Montreal. Yeah, I know that’s not an American side, but that club went on haitus for a year around the turn of the millennium and came back. Eventually the Impact would find their way to MLS. That hiatus was one year. Most soccer clubs go on haitus before selling or folding. No club has come back from a multi-year haitus like this and been better for it (and no I’m not counting the New York Cosmos and Tampa Bay Rowdies because those are the same organizations in name only). That’s just the history of the sport in this country. I’m very open to the Rhinos coming back into my life. I write a monthly blog about soccer in the City of Rochester after all. I have a place carved out in my bank account for that revival I keep being told will happen oh so soon. But the proverbial afterlife of that club I love so much is also a distinct possibility. As a loyal fan I’ll help usher this club into that afterlife if that’s what it comes to. In that scenario I’ll be carving “greatest soccer club in American history” into the tombstone.

But, and this is a huge but that I was not mature enough for two years ago: I’ve also decided to be happy with domestic soccer for once. I’ve been keeping tabs on several clubs and building memories that could help form the foundation of loyalty. I made a goodwill power ranking that went through 35 iterations this past summer. While I’m not becoming a full-fledged supporter of any other club until I get a death certificate on the Rhinos, some of the points of fondness that made me love the Rhinos are informing the memories I’m building with other clubs. Indy Eleven felt quite alluring but my heart just isn’t there. Certainly the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC having Bob Lilley and half a dozen other former Rhinos provides for a nice trip down memory lane. But the intangibles that go beyond anyone group of players ring even louder for me: the difficulty of this American Soccer journey, the way soccer up here in the North is more fun as a summer sport because I want to watch Hockey in the winter. The way a good soccer story involves a whole lot of chance and, in it’s purest form, depends on supporters who sing win or lose. The story of a club, the aesthetic of a club, the culture of it, the message of it and well frankly the struggle of it informed where I would go for my next relationship. If I wasn’t such a patriot Hamilton Forge FC of the Canadian Premier League would be an absolute layup in all the categories I’ve described today. But no, the club that’s checked all my boxes is from the States.

In case you didn’t pick up the Wonderwall connection earlier my new MLS club, if I become open to a new relationship, is Minnesota United FC. Ultimately the benefits wrapped up in regional representation fell null with the nearest pro clubs being two to three hours away at best. The closest American Pro Soccer team is the aforementioned Pittsburgh Riverhounds and maybe they’ll find their sugar daddy and make it to MLS one day but as we’ve established that’s not an important criteria for me. Nostalgia wasn’t going to drive my next relationship, that’s part of what misled me in my first breakup. Moreover comradery with Pittsburgh isn’t something that comes naturally to me due to a real hatred for their other sports teams. My taste for representation in a sports team is melodramatic if I’m being honest. The imagery of the dark clouds of MNUFC, the history of being up and down barely surviving as an organization for ten years to then somehow finding a way into the topflight, the near deification of greyness of living in the north while also singing Wonderwall, a melancholy song with very palpable strands of hope; it just all spoke to me on a very visceral level. The mix of gray and blue and black in their aesthetic was more appealing than I remember first seeing them come into MLS when I was a NYCFC supporter back in 2016. All that and Loons are a beautiful, yet annoying animal and I feel that somehow represents me: an annoying bird who is mighty melancholy in his soccer life right now, just looking to flock together with other melancholy Northern Birds. In case you didn’t know, Minnesota sports is full of melancholy.

Right as MNUFC came onto my radar earlier this year they held NYCFC at bay at the opening game of their new stadium Allianz Field. A couple months later they thrashed FC Cincinnati 7-1, a club I had developed a real hatred for when they played the Rhinos in the USL. Then, as if they knew I had started watching, they went on a wicked tear that landed them in the top two of the MLS Western Conference, a feat the club had never come close to in their MLS days. They were then courteous enough to lose the Open Cup Final, look mighty ass down the home stretch to the playoffs and bow out in the first round to the hated LA Galaxy. That sounds like the emotional rollercoaster of a team I support!

But let’s not stray from the meat and potatoes here: MLS is something I do not want to support with my money even after my Rhinos are pushing up daisies. Well that’s part of the benefit of being a fan so far away. I don’t go to games and I don’t buy merchandise. The jersey I got was free through a friend. That said I know through stream and other ways MLS will somehow still benefit from my following of MNUFC. You can’t win all the battles, but I’ve found soccer love again and if my first breakup taught me anything its that you have to grab onto that soccer love while you have it or you may lose it. Our soccer lives are somewhat like real life: messy. And that’s okay, I’ve decided to be happy with messy.
