super smash bros with yosuke gone wrong!? (no clickbait)

pairing: yosuke hanamura x gn!reader

summary: yosuke and you game together but slowly your trash talk turns flirty, until it escalates with a kiss!

a/n: i had so much fun writing this! writing something silly and gaming related about my fav p4 boy? hell yeah!

"how many times in a row did you lose now~?"

you knew the answer to that question, but you couldn't help asking anyways, just to rile yosuke up a little. he always bragged about how good he was at super smash bros and yet you had beaten him again and again…

"oh shut up! next time i'll win for sure–!!"

yosuke's eyes were fixated on the tv, waiting for the next round to start, to prove to you that he could win against you. but he couldn't. at least not this round… 

"that's one more loss for you~ don't you want to give up already?"

yosuke growled quietly at your mocking comment and whipped his head around to face you. 

"i'll win next round, you'll see!"

and then he didn't win. again. 

"oh, poor yosuke~"

you chuckled softly, while yosuke started the next round, too stubborn to stop now. 

"shut up! i'll win against you and then you'll look like an idiot, you hear me!?"

the round started and yosuke did his best to dodge your attacks and land a few hits himself. 

"you want me to shut up? make me~!"

that comment of yours made yosuke whip his head around for a second, only for his character to get thrown off the stage while he wasn't looking. he quickly turned his head back to the tv and huffed. 

"fine, i'll make you shut up then!"

now you were the one who got caught off guard, as yosuke leaned in. though while you turned towards your best friend, his eyes were still on the tv and now he managed to finally rid you of one of your lives! 

"ha! you were careless! were you too excited about the idea of me fulfilling that promise~?"

yosuke laughed, while you glared at him. 

"as if! i wouldn't kiss a loser like you! i bet you suck at kissing, too!"

"you might be good at smash bros, but i'm good at smashing my lips together with yours~!"

you couldn't help but let a laugh escape your lips at yosuke's terrible joke. it was almost as terrible as his fighting style was…

"oh yeah? you talk big, but i bet you haven't kissed anyone else before!"

yosuke's cheeks turned red, but luckily you were too focused on the screen to notice. 

"as if you have! go on, tell me about your first kiss then, if you have sooo much more experience!"

your cheeks turned red as well, a flustered and yet angry look on your face. 

"oh shut up!"

"make me~!"

all that build up frustration and tension got too much and before you even realized what you were doing, you had grabbed your best friend and pressed a kiss onto his lips, causing the boy to drop his controller in shock. 

when you pulled away again, the game was still on in the background, but neither of you seemed in much of a hurry to go and land that final blow. it didn't seem to matter anymore who would win this fight… 

"you… you suck at kissing! i knew it, you never kissed anyone before!"

yosuke was the first one to break the awkward silence, unable to stop laughing. 

"you are the worst, yosuke! you're not any better, you know!?"

"guess so! maybe you should help me improve then"

your cheeks turned red and you glared at your best friend. 

"fine! seems like that's the only way to get you to shut up…"

Yosuke liked to have noise going while he slept.

He normally never left the house without his iPod fully charged so he could listen to music throughout the day; his need to have something to listen to extended into his sleep as well, especially when living in the city had meant he needed something to drown out the sounds outside his room.

He’d explained to Teddie what his noise machine was the first night he stayed in his closet, including it within the ground rules he laid out for staying in his room. Don’t mess with it, he’d said. You could break it.

Yosuke felt he should have expected that rule to get broken — if Teddie was involved, it was almost like common sense went out the window, though he doubted Teddie had any common sense to begin with given his origin.

“You owe me a new one,” Yosuke informed him, his weariness reaching tenfold.

Teddie had that look in his eyes that was usually reserved for really small dogs, the sort of quivering teary-eyed look but there weren't any real tears falling. “I’m beary sorry, Yosuke!”

Yosuke waved his hand in response. “Just forget about it,” he told him, the disappointment he felt being the main factor in his inability to look at him. “I’m going to go get ready for bed.”

He didn’t think it’d be that hard to sleep, in all honesty. He could go one night without any extra noise, right?

Yosuke was horribly wrong. He didn’t think he’d even be able to sleep once his eyes met the digital numbers of his clock and he saw it was three in the morning already, multiple hours having passed since he’d laid down originally. He didn’t realize how easy it was to focus on so many little things — the way the wind blew differently than the last gust, the sounds of animals in the night, how the house creaked low and deep at every little shift it gave.

It was how he picked up on the sound of his closet door opening; Teddie wasn’t a quiet person, he was usually the loudest person in the room to begin with. Yosuke could also understand from the slowness of his movements and careful consideration that he was at least trying to be quiet.

“Yosuke?” Teddie prodded, voice at a loud whisper. Again, he wasn’t naturally a quiet person.

“Yeah?” Yosuke responded, rolling over to face where Teddie stood and focusing on him as best as he could with tired eyes. His eyes had already adjusted to the dark since he had been lying there, allowing him to notice the tears prickling Teddie’s eyes and the overall upset expression on his face.

He’d had a nightmare, Yosuke could tell. 

At first, Teddie’s need for comfort annoyed Yosuke, as bad as he felt about that. He didn’t appreciate being woken up like the next person, and Teddie had a snore that rivaled the sounds actual real-life bears made. He also had a tendency to steal the sheets and leave Yosuke with cold feet in the morning when he woke up.

It wasn’t like any of those things changed over time — he was still annoyed by all those factors, even now when it wasn’t like he’d been sleeping, but he’d learned to put up with it because he also cared, as much as he struggled to admit that.

Sighing, Yosuke only rolled back over and shuffled closer to the wall to make some space for Teddie. 

He heard the soft mumble of thanks from Teddie as he crawled into bed next to him, taking up such little space since he was so small. He was practically weightless, barely weighing down the mattress next to him which Yosuke picked up instantly, and his body temperature was way cooler. It was all things Yosuke had never noticed before, but he was wide awake and could pick up on every little thing.

Teddie fell asleep back to back with him within the half-hour, already trying to half cocoon himself in with the blankets and snoring loudly. Yosuke had surrendered his hold on his covers when sleeping Teddie proved he wanted them more with forceful bundling up.

Yosuke closed his eyes forcefully, trying to sleep, trying to find something to focus on, but Teddie’s snores were blocking everything out that he could pick up before. No winds, no animals, no creaking.

It was oddly peaceful, and the irony didn’t escape Yosuke; he found comfort in the sound for once. It wasn’t like he’d ever be willing to admit that out loud though.

Still, that didn’t stop the sleepiness that finally overtook Yosuke. He relaxed, his hypervigilance releasing its grip on him as he untensed and found himself grateful for once.

♡ Her passion for her career and friends.

✘ The way she tries to screw over Makoto when the game had just begun. Like wait and see what happens before screwing over such a great guy? Leon didn’t deserve it either.

Leon Kuwata

♡ His voice actor (English), and how real and human his execution was in that we all would be so scared and irrational. It was just so iconic and sad as it’s our first introduction to the death in this series and we all think: “shit, this is real... they are really killing these kids.” I didn’t think it would be that brutal, just seeing his body limp at the end with the haunting music.

✘ His design is disgusting. I hate how he looks.

Chihiro Fujisaki

♡ So innocent, so kind, so intelligent

✘ Shouldn’t have been killed for such a stupid reason, also they did Mondo dirty with that motive for killing as well. Just a mess. As for the actual character, Chihiro cries right off the bat when you do your introductions and that was kind of annoying to me personally.

Mondo Oowada

♡ He has a lot of respect, understanding and emotions for someone I thought would be a hard-ass douche biker.

✘ The worst motive to kill ever in a game where you know you’re getting executed if you’re found out. Like you’d be extra careful and that’s his reason to kill? Lazy writing.

Celestia Ludenberg

♡ Bad bitch energy and her goth lolita design.

✘ Manipulation and double murder. Bad bitch energy only goes so far. Confidence is different then selfishness. Also, of all the chapter 3 triple murders... the worst motive to kill.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru

♡ Emotions: secure in his masculinity, able to cry, show emotions, and apologize when he’s wrong. He’s funny and likable.

✘ The Ishimondo white hair thing was stupid. Taka was fine on his own.

Hifumi Yamada

♡ Writing takes talent, fan fiction as much as any other style or genre. Also the talent of his voice actor (who also voices Kiibo/K1-B0).

✘ Literally everything else about him.

Sakura Oogami

♡ I love everything about her. I love her wisdom, loyalty, design, voice etc. Just step on me, mother.

✘ Why the hell would she ever agree to be a spy even if it meant the end of her dojo? I just don’t think she would do that rationally because she isn’t selfish. The others would suffer for her spying. She remedies this with redemption in her letter in chapter 4 but still she should’ve said no off the bat. Everyone had something to lose. The dojo wasn’t worth spying for monokuma. Also I just don’t think she would commit suicide. She can’t help the remaining students survive and redeem herself truly if she’s dead.

Kyoko Kirigiri

♡ Bad bitch energy, calm and collected when I could never be.

✘ Especially in future arc of the anime, damn can you show some emotion please? Through your words and expressions not just your actions. Sure she was willing to “die” for Makoto but like I just want more emotion from her sometimes, even in THH.

Makoto Naegi

♡ So pure. I Love Bryce Papenbrook. Makoto reminds me of Sora and I love his design.

✘ In THH I didn’t mind his innocence but in the Danganronpa 3 future arc anime, when people started straight up abusing him and accusing him, he needed to grow a little backbone.

Byakuya Togami

♡ Love my dad, king shit, also love how over the progression of the games and animes he becomes a little more kind to his friends.

✘ Why the fuck did he mess with Chihiro’s body? Just so cruel and disrespectful.

♡ Funny magic man. Sexy voice.

✘ Please. Please Hiro use your brain just once. Why do we have to prove Kyoko isn’t a ghost?!

♡ Seeing the protagonist be a little less naive, innocent and positive than Makoto was a refreshing change, although I loved Makoto. I liked Hajime’s cynicism and expressions that sometimes just screamed “this shit again, huh?”

✘ I enjoy the way Izuru looks but I hate him as a character. He is sexy to look at but Hajime is just a better character overall

Teruteru Hanamura

♡ His love for his family and mother especially is so cute and heart breaking if you know the full story.

✘ He needs to know when to dial it back and quit with the perversions. And no it’s not just how he looks, Miu needs to chill at times, too.

Twogami

♡ I feel like he genuinely cares about his friends, just hides it well

✘ His death felt like a cop out and poorly written. It just didn’t sit right with me. Also his design is disgusting to me, his outfit and such.

Mahiru Koizumi

♡ Loyal to her close friends.

✘ I just have no interest in her as a character and I find her boring.

Peko Pekoyama

♡ Loyalty. Loyalty is something I value very highly in every form of relationship. Peko is also very hot.

✘ Come on girl... I know how you were raised but you should’ve known Fuyuhiko didn’t think of you as just a tool and you two should’ve expressed your true feelings long ago. Like even in secret. How do you live like this? Also I feel like killing Mahiru could’ve been avoided with a calm talk.

♡ Cute design, positive vibes.

✘ Cringe sometimes in the way she talks.

Hiyoko Saionji

♡ Beautiful character design and some very good insults and snarky remarks at times.

✘ Just irredeemably mean and annoying. Even when you do her free time events she is just so annoying.

♡ I like her design as well as her hair, expressions, sprites and clothing.

✘ I hate her. I just hate her whether she’s in her true psycho form or timid stuttering form. She’s just annoying in my opinion.

♡ So supportive, can hold my drink at a party. Respects everyone and wants the best for them.

✘ Bro Mechamaru was a stupid plot point. I just couldn’t stand looking at him and couldn’t take it seriously. Still sad when he died though.

♡ From chapter 5 of sdr2 on she is impossible not to love if you didn’t already. Just the selflessness, the sadness of the reveal and execution, how she returns to help Hajime at the end???? I love her. I love her hair design, color palette, her personality, everything.

✘ I’m bitter and miserable about her being the only class member to actually die (the despair arc anime) also her falling asleep at random times is kind of odd and she doesn’t seem to be like that later on in the game??? Like it seemed like a cheap joke but not actually who she is? Hard for me to explain.

Gundham Tanaka

♡ King shit, couldn’t praise him enough. He’s sexy, loves animals, and is funny as hell sometimes. His voice actor is a saint and a cool dude and I named my guinea pigs after the Dark Devas (yes I know they are hamsters in the games.)

✘ Come on dude. I get that being from Hell and magic and having evil powers is your shtick, but we all know that you and Nekomaru sacrificed yourselves so the others wouldn’t starve. We know you care about your classmates. There comes a time when it’s time to let personas and facades fade and be true to your heart. I just feel like him denying he cared at the end hurt. We all know he cared. I didn’t like how he was haughty until the end. He deserved better. I love him.

Nagito Komaeda

♡ I love him so much. So cunning and intelligent, always a step ahead. And he’s big sexy.

✘ Him killing himself in chapter 5 hurt me so bad I was like in denial for days. Also hate how Bryce Papenbrook gives him a raspy stoner psycho voice in the game then a light airy higher-pitched voice in the despair arc anime. It just bothers me. I love his voice still but the inconsistency just hurts my OCD

Sonia Nevermind

♡ I love that she’s so interested in her passions and love her feelings for Gundham

✘ Her outfit and bow are atrocious. Also why didn’t she start liking and talking to Gundham sooner on? Their romance bloomed late and it would’ve made for a better chapter 4 ending if they were a bit closer.

♡ Cool design and outfit, love his voice (also voices Kaito in V3) and his backstory is relatable at times. He’s also very human in that he’s scared a lot of the time or insecure or blames others in panicked situations. It’s not always a good thing but it’s human and realistic.

✘ Gosh he can be so annoying. Sometimes flirting or whining too much is well... too much.

Akane Owari

♡ Strong-willed and definitely someone I would be friends with

✘ What the hell is her outfit? Gymnasts and athletes don’t wear that shit. Stop objectifying her when it doesn’t even make the product or plot better. Like there’s absolutely no point to making her dress that way. I was a gymnast for 15 years. Even those who do parkour (which Akane seems to do more often than actual gymnastics in the anime and game) don’t wear what she wears. Also she’s underrated.

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu

♡ I love him. He’s the DR character I’m most like out of all the games and anime. Tenko is a close second. I think he’s adorable, love his character arc, development, redemption, and love his voice.

✘ In the anime/despair arc, Fuyuhiko is not done justice. He doesn’t get enough lines, has a different voice actor, just doesn’t give off the same vibes.

Izuru Kamakura

♡ Sexy man long hair good.

✘ Boring character. I wish he were just Hajime.

Kaede Akamatsu

♡ Loyalty and leadership are such attractive qualities in her. Also she faced her death with such class and dignity and I respect her because I could never.

✘ Some of the voice lines Erika does for her are just weird and cringe. Just random moans or grunts... I don’t know it’s like when Ann Takamaki from Persona 5 (also voiced by Erika) makes suggestive noises as well. Just grinds my gears. Also hate her outfit down to the hair pins.

Shuichi Saihara

♡ I love his nasally voice. I love his design and he’s so adorable. I love how emotional and compassionate he can be. He ties with Makoto for favorite protag of mine.

✘ That sprite where he sniffs his hand. And his ugly ass hat.

Rantarou Amami

♡ Sexy man, sexy voice, sexy piercings

✘ Ugly outfit, and wasted potential

Ryoma Hoshi

♡ I respect him and feel bad for his outlook on life and for how poorly he views himself. I love his little hat as well and he’s the first “different styled” character (Hifumi, Bandai, Teruteru) that I liked the design of.

✘ I hate when he says “got a long ways to go,” it’s overused and annoying, and wish he gave himself more credit. Also hate that when you first meet him he warns you that he’s killed people and is dangerous to be around. Come on buddy, you know you wouldn’t hurt your friends. Stop pushing them away.

♡ Competence, well rounded, skillful

✘ Boring as hell. I wouldn’t waste one free time event on her.

Angie Yonaga

♡ Dark skin, super cute, love her talent as an artist myself.

✘ Gives religious people a bad name and is super manipulative which I hate.

♡ I relate to her and feel bad when she’s misunderstood. She’s a good person deep down. Also love her sprites.

✘ There’s more cunning, funny and clever ways to write her digs at men.

♡ I’m in love with this man. Long hair, voice, mystery, mask, intelligence, passion, talent.

✘ He definitely was a victim of abuse and a lot of people refuse to see that and just hate him. Team Danganronpa should’ve given him a redemption arc where he realized his sister abused him and changed.

♡ I love his design except for his suit. Also he’s so cute and naive. I cried for his trail.

♡ Pretty much everything about him. His design, his attitude and personality, especially how amazing and cool he is chapter 5 onward, his execution made me so sad. He’s so innocent and funny without trying.

✘ When you do his free time events he’s very arrogant and just talks about himself a lot... it seems odd and not similar to the Kiibo we see throughout the game.

I can’t fucking do this I think about nothing but them these days. And thinking about souyo, ioryuu, some of my other past or present ships and my OCs... I only know one dynamic sdfssdfg

What makes me happy about them:

Best friends to lovers. They can both get exasperated with the other, but at the end of the day, their mutual trust is deep and they think highly of each other, and even if it doesn’t always look like it, I like to think their relationship really is mutual. GOD.

What makes me sad about them:

Why were those lines left out of the finished game. WHY. Just give us a REASON, ATLUS. Also Yosuke’s low self-esteem my BRO

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

Mmmm sure there are fics that don’t strike my personal fancy but I can’t come u with anything they’d have in common? I don’t think there’s a particularly souyo trope that annoys me.

Things I look for in fanfic:

Always a slut for character study and introspection and some sort of inner conflict. I WILL read and love every single one with Yosuke’s internalized homophobia saffsfsfd

Yu is extremely shippable ngl. My second choice for him is Adachi but I only like that ship in very specific circumstances and would NOT wish for Yu to “end up with” him lmao. I guess Rise? They look like they’d be a saccharine sweet lovey-dovey couple and I love that shit.

My happily ever after for them:

I like to think they get together in high school, the details of when and how it happens vary. They keep in touch for the third year of high school, calling and or texting almost if not daily, both make it to college in the same city (different schools though), rent an apartment and become roommates, after that it’s kinda just a vague pink cloud of domestic bliss. They meet up with Naoto and Rise who also live in the city as often as they can. Still go to Inaba for holidays. If Yu’s parents are assholes he cuts ties with them the second he’s legally an adult. The Dojimas are his family now and they keep in touch regularly. Teddie stays with the Hanamuras and he and Yosuke start treating each other as brothers. It’s all good and conflict free and they both make new friends at their universities and they’re as supportive as the friends they already had and you know what I didn’t realize how detailed my headcanon universe has gotten. This is just a fracture of it. Jesus Christ. Um they get married as soon as it becomes legal.

((Thank you so much @livefreeordie13 for this fun request! This one is a little lengthy/wordy, but I hope it’s an entertaining read!))

Yu had to admit…it was a stupid idea to entire the TV world without asking Chie or Yukiko to tag along. It had been even more idiotic to also not ask Naoto or Kanji to tag along. Rise and Teddie would have also been valuable team members, but they were also absent.

Yu’s only companion was his best friend, and partner, Yosuke Hanamura.

At the moment, the two partners were sprinting as fast as they could through the shadowy labyrinth. Following closely on their heels was a pack of ravenous Shadows, snapping their jaws and scuttling their legs in an attempt to grab the two teens and escort them to an early demise.

“Oh, shit!” Yosuke screamed as they ran, feeling the hot breath from the monsters caress the exposed area of his neck. “Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit! They’re right behind us, bro!”

“Yosuke, keep running!” Yu commanded firmly. “Don’t look back!”

Getting chased by a fleet of monsters had not been part of Yu’s plan.

What the teen had actually intended to do was enter the TV world alone to brush up on his fighting skills and, for lack of a better work, grind experience from weaker enemies in an attempt to brush up on his battle skills.

Following their last confrontation in Naoto’s labyrinth and an absolutely brutal fight with their newest comrade’s immensely persistent Shadow, Yu had a sobering wake-up call in the form of multiple injuries and collapsed party members that the enemies they were facing were becoming stronger and stronger.

If they wanted a fighting chance, Yu knew he would need to do some extra training. As the group leader, he also felt as if it was his sole responsibility to become stronger to protect his team, even if he had to go alone. Honestly, he would have preferred that, since it would have prevented his other allies from danger.

He stocked up on healing items, including a Goho-M for good measure, and planned to jump in secretly.

Yosuke, ever the persistent companion, spotted Yu trying to crawl into the TV at Junes and absolutely forbade him to go alone. The orange-haired teen rushed to have someone cover his shift at the store before jumping in after his partner, no questions asked.

At first, everything went smoothly.

They had landed at their usual entrance point, where the duo and Chie originally met Teddie. It was also close to where Yu remembered fighting Yosuke’s shadow mere months before. It had become somewhat of a nostalgic location.

They had long since grown in both skill and strength to abolish the weaker enemies that typically meandered in the area.

Both had expected to quickly jump in, fight a couple monsters and collect some sought-after loot, then leave.

Neither could have predicted that they would be ambushed.

“Partner, keep running!” Yosuke hollered over his shoulder at Yu, was only a few feet behind him. The Shadows were gaining on them quickly.

At the sight of his partner inching closer to the hoard of monsters, Yosuke’s hand flailed back gracelessly to grab Yu’s outstretched palm to pull him along with increased haste. What Yosuke lacked in strength, he made up for with speed.

“Thank you, Yosuke!” Yu said, almost too tired to even speak.

“Hey, don’t waste your breath on thanking me yet!” Yosuke yelled frantically in reply. “We can’t outrun them the whole way! We have to hide!”

Feeling his legs start to burn from running at full-speed, Yu knew Yosuke was right. They wouldn’t be able to escape at this rate. He quickly scanned the horizon to spot anywhere the duo could temporarily camp out.

After a few frantic glances around the area, he spotted a dark and abandoned storefront tucked away amidst a gathering of unsteady buildings.

Yu sharply yanked on Yosuke’s hand to pull him in the direction of the hideout. “This way!”

Hands still joined, the two sprinted to the building. They sidled down an alleyway and rolled into an abandoned room. Once inside, the flattered their backs against a wall and clapped their hands over their gaping mouths. They tried to remain as silent as death.

For a few moments, it seems the Shadows had lost them.

Then, the sound of breathing began to grow stronger. The two exchanged horrified glances to see that neither one of them was making the loud, wheezing sound. Then, a symphony of moans and groans began to grow louder from just outside the building.

They’d been spotted.

“Oh, crap,” Yosuke said as he heard the group of Shadows scuttle outside the thin walls.

Without noticing, he clenched his partner’s hand tightly.

“We’re really screwed, aren’t we?” he asked, sounding so full of fear that it broke Yu’s heart.

It was because of him that he and Yosuke were in such terrible danger. He should have known better than to try and tackle a challenge without his friends. He knew the consequences of trying to face challenges alone and bear burdens without help, and yet, he’d still acted recklessly.

He couldn’t let Yosuke be a causality of his foolhardiness. He was his best friend, and he’d be damned if any harm befell him.

“No, we’re not,” Yu said confidently. “You’ll be fine, Yosuke.”

Although he sounded self-assured, it was mostly a façade. Truthfully, he wasn’t sure how he and Yosuke were going to escape the situation at hand.

There didn’t seem to be a way out. Not unless he did something drastic.

“I’m going out there,” Yu said, brandishing his blade and taking a step forward. He spoke with unshakable determination. “They’ll come after me, and you can run to the exit.”

A frantic hand bunched the back of his blazer and yanked him back with surprising strength. He stumbled back a few paces until he felt Yosuke’s chest bump gently against his back.

“Where are you going?” Yosuke asked in a frantic whisper. “It’s not safe out there!”

“I’ll be a distraction,” Yu said firmly, avoiding eye contact with his friend. He didn’t want to see the look of dread in his friend’s eyes. “Yosuke. I got us into this mess, but I have to make sure you get out alive.”

“No!” Yosuke said, raising his voice louder than he should have. Behind them, a thundering boom shook the entire building. Dust appeared in heavy clouds over their heads as the ancient structure began to shift and creak precariously.

Their heads snapped in the direction of the noise. Another boom shook the walls and inspired Yu to protectively wrap an arm around Yosuke and pull him onto the ground.

“Get down!” Yu screamed just as another shattering thud sent shrapnel of concrete metal into the air. Both collapsed onto the ground as one of the nearby walls began to crack under the pressure of the Shadows ramming their bodies against the structure.

Yu knew that if he didn’t go out there and stop them, the whole building would soon collapse.

“Partner, I’m not letting you go alone,” Yosuke said firmly.

Their hands were still entwined, and Yu could feel Yosuke’s fingers trembling between his own.

“I followed you here myself, and if we need to fight to get out of here, I’ll still follow you,” Yosuke said, determined. “But I’m not leaving you.”

“Yosuke…” Yu whispered, squinting past the cloud of dust that was starting to engulf them. He could barely see the pillars of the building swaying back as forth as precariously as the pendulum of a clock, ready to snap at any second.

Realizing what was to come, Yu slowly released his sword and extended his other hand to grab Yosuke’s other hand. When shifting his grip, he felt the weight of something in his pocket that he hadn’t felt before while they were standing upright.

The hopelessness he felt evaporated in an instant.

The Goho-M.

In his panic, Yu had completely forgotten that he’d brought one into the TV world so that he could leave without the assistance of any of his teammates.

He took the talisman in his hand hastily, gripping it so hard that his fingernails scored deep half-moons in the item.

Less than a second passed before he felt power begin to pulsate and vibrate in his palm.

“Yosuke, don’t let go!” Yu said as he clutched the talisman tightly against his chest. As expected, Yosuke remained close to his partner and held his hand as a light shimmered around them. The ground gave way beneath them as a gold light whisked them away.

The two teleported out just as the building’s supports cracked and the structure caved in with a deafening crash.

A crowd looked on in confusion at the sight before them.

Two teenagers were standing in the Junes electronic department, covered in dust and what might have been flecks of blood, holding onto each other for dear life. They were standing upright, arms wrapped around each other’s waists and leaning against a nearby wall.

“Do you think something’s wrong?” one woman asked in understandable concern.

“Hey, doesn’t that one guy work here?” another teenager asked while scratching his head. “Yeah, that’s the manager’s son!”

As a small group of customers continued to talk and chatter around them, Yu and Yosuke couldn’t do anything but stand still and hold onto each other. Yosuke was still shaking and Yu had to consciously hold himself back from squeezing Yosuke hard enough to leave bruises.

“Yosuke, I’m so sorry,” Yu said again.

In reply to Yu’s serious statement, Yosuke didn’t reply with words. Instead, he laughed good-naturedly and shook his head dismissively at Yu’s sudden stoniness. He sounded exhausted, but there was a veneer of palpable elation present that left Yu feeling puzzled.

“Why are you laughing?” he asked curiously. “Yosuke, I almost got you killed.”

“Yeah, but we’re alive,” Yosuke said. “As usual, you saved us. You saved me.”

“Barely,” Yu replied, eyes narrowing. He wasn’t taking Yosuke’s blatant disregard of his own safety lightly. Just the thought of Yosuke getting injured because of his own zealous needs was enough to leave cracks in Yu’s otherwise surly heart.

“Partner, c’mon…” Yosuke said, easing out of Yu’s arms slightly. He moved away just far enough so that he could look directly into Yu’s eyes. Yosuke lowered his voice slightly and added, “Listen. I followed you, remember? You didn’t force me to do anything. Hell, neither of us would have decided to go into the TV if we would have known about we’d get chased by some crazy…Shadow monster, right?”

“I suppose, but…” Yu stammered in reply, still feeling guilty.

“Besides, what would have happened if you really would have gone in alone like you really wanted?” Yosuke interrogated, voice becoming more serious. “Then something really bad might have actually happened.”

Yu opened his mouth to object, but was unable to find the words he longed to say. He realized that he couldn’t argue with his friend’s logic.

Yosuke had a fair point. Even though Yu had brought a Goho-M into the TV world as a precaution, he’d also completely forgotten about it until the absolute last second. Yosuke had also been the one to grab his hand and pull him along during the chase. Yosuke had also stopped Yu from serving as a distraction at the end of their escape, and upon further reflection, Yu realized the desperate act would have most likely led to his death. He also knew there were many other lesser people that would have accepted the self-sacrificing offer without a second thought. Yosuke had literally pulled him back and forbade him from leaving.

Most likely, his friend had realized even before he had what would have happened if Yu had walked into the fray alone.

At most, Yosuke had saved his life. At the very least, his friend has still stuck by his side and in the face of possible death.

“You’re right,” Yu conceded with a gentle smile. “Yosuke, I’m still so sorry…but I can’t thank you enough. We’ll never know how things would have turned out if you weren’t there to help me. To be honest, I think I’m okay with that.”

Perhaps Yu would have survived on his own, or perhaps he would have perished. Thankfully, he’d never have to find out.

“Aw, c’mon bro,” Yosuke said, scratching the back of his neck bashfully. “I didn’t actually protect you or anything.”

The statement elicited a laugh from Yu as he recalled Yosuke’s graceless flailing and screaming in response to the surprise attack.

“Okay, maybe you didn’t protect me in the traditional sense, but you were there with me when nobody else was,” Yu reasoned, grinning at his companion softly. “I can’t thank you enough for that, Partner.”

Yosuke’s face lit up with a bright pink blush that would have put Inaba’s more gorgeous cherry blossoms to shame, in Yu’s humble opinion. Although the embarrassment on his face was clear, Yu couldn’t help but notice the prideful smirk that also decorated his friend’s face. It filled Yu with a warmth to see his friend, who was usually so stressed or lethargic, now grinning with the utmost confidence.

Yu stared at Yosuke’s beaming face, bright as the most beautiful dawn, and decided to take a risk. He leaned forward and placed a very gentle kiss on Yosuke’s cheek.

The kiss brought Yosuke’s excited rambling to a halt as his freckled cheek became a few degrees hotter under the touch of Yu’s lips.

“A reward,” Yu explained, trying to keep his voice calm under Yosuke’s wide-eyed gaze. “For saving my life.”

For a second, Yosuke was at a complete loss for words. It looked as if the young man had suddenly slipped into a daydream. His eyes were focused on Yu, but his exact area of attention wasn’t as easy to pinpoint. It was as if he was staring at something nobody else could see, but he was still staring at his friend.

A little uncertain of Yosuke’s reaction, Yu proceeded with caution and his signature grace.

“Was the kiss no good?” Yu asked with an innocent tilt of the head. The joke was an attempt to fill the void of silence that stretched between them with some kind of humor.

To his delight, it worked. The off-hand comment seemed to awaken Yosuke from his daze. After snapping awake, his dreamy expression furrowed into a pout as he lifted a fist as punched Yu’s shoulder lightly. While Yosuke’s face seemed to indicate that he was upset, there was no fire behind his movements.

“Yeah, right,” Yosuke groaned, knifing his fingers through his sweat-dampened bangs. The words had no bite to them, and it also didn’t help that Yosuke punctuated his harsh statement with a smile. “You jerk. Even almost dying didn’t change you one bit, huh?”

“I’m afraid not,” Yu said with a chortle as he lifted his hands and dusted off his clothes as best. Then, he clapped his hands together and gestured to a hunched over, and now ridiculously flushed, Yosuke.

“Okay, seriously now,” he asked Yosuke in his signature, even tone. “What do you want as a real reward? My treat.”

The prospect of another reward brought a strange ardor to Yosuke’s eyes, but it immediately calmed when he remembered the two of them were in public. A smirk crossed Yu’s face as he dared to think of what Yosuke might have considered asking for.

“Okay, for once, I think you owe me some steak,” Yosuke said, still blushing a little bit from the kiss. “Just don’t tell Chie that she missed out on meat. Then I’ll be in real danger.”

Yu laughed heartily, adrenaline still throbbing through his veins from the experience. Feeling a little extra daring than usual, he wetted his thumb and reached out to wipe away a smudge of dirt that adorned Yosuke’s lightly freckled face.

“That’s more than a fair trade,” he said with a soft wink. Yosuke rolled his eyes and groaned but didn’t move away. Instead, he lingered ever closer and wrapped an arm around Yu’s shoulders so he could lean on him for support.

Yu not only accepted his friend’s weight, but he also wrapped his own arm about Yosuke’s somewhat more narrow shoulders, helping him walk off the tiredness as much as possible.

Disregarding the remaining onlookers, the couple walked arm-in-arm to the Junes food court.

aw yes, the trash boy. Mister “Partner!”. Let’s get into it

Sexuality Headcannon: this boy is fucking GAY or the very least bisexual. He was in like a homo denial and kinda was ass about it. (especially to Kanji but he apologized about it) but Yu helped him out on it.

Gender Headcannon: Gonna go with cis as well with him. 

A ship I have with said character: Souyu! They are partners and very gay! He always gotta say to any new person “I’m Yosuke Hanamura, and I’m this guy’s partner so jot that down.” They’re well sync to each other and can basically know what the other are thinking. They’re pretty perfect with each other.

A BROTP I have with said character: Teddie! They are literally brothers! The two bicker so much but still care for each other. Teddie is happy to have a family and Yosuke is happy to not be the only child anymore. The Junes brothers are just plain good together!

A NOTP I have with said character: Him and Labrys or other girls of IT. The girls of IT are lesbians or at least dating girls already and Labrys and him are just friends. Yeah there’s like scene of the both in the arena game and manga a bit, but i just don’t ship em together. It just how I feel. 

A random headcannon: If Teddie ever learns something new or wants to, Yosuke helps him out on it. Teddie doesn’t go to school so someone has to teach him things. Though since he doesn’t take notes or do them well, his explanations can be confusing which leads to Teddie come up his own or misunderstand. 

General opinion over said character: I find him very funny and neat. I kinda wish he was less pervy or a dick sometimes but it’s basically a flaw of his so it gets a pass. The fact he so kind to house Teddie and treat him to a few things is real great. No matter how annoying he is, he’ll care for Teddie like the little bro he is. Plus he was very smart to come up those meetings and observations before Naoto came in. All in all, he’s a pretty cool dude.

I got random headcannons in my head for persona characters and imma spill em

You know those gag glasses in persona 4 that everyone got? Usually the IT has it stay at home or put somewhere but Chie keeps it on her person. Why may you ask? Well Yukiko can often burn out when handling inn duties or having to deal with guys trying to hit on her and ask her out and stuff. So often enough when Yukiko isn’t feeling all that great, she goes to Chie to just take a break from it all. Chie will hang out and try to cheer her up the best she can. But when nothing is working, she puts on those gag glasses and has Yukiko look over. Those glasses never fail to make her laugh. She laughs so much that she just forgets what got her upset in the first place and it makes Chie happy she’s happy. It’s just basically “Oh my girlfriend is super sad right now, gotta bust out the emergency funny glasses.”

Teddie likes wearing any clothes. Suits? Dresses? He’ll wear em all. He just likes to wear clothing that he finds real pretty or good looking. It kinda to the point where he joins the girls on clothes shopping. At first, everyone in IT was confused about this for Teddie but they all got used to it to the point they helped him out on it. Oh Yukiko asks him for help but he wants to wear the kimono instead cause how pretty it is? Sure, she’ll help him out and he gets to help out being all pretty. Rise and Naoto are the main people that help him get pretty clothes he wants. Rise knows the colors while Naoto got an image for Teddie in clothes. You know that joke meme about why someone is on the table and it’s because they wanna be tall? Well with Teddie, it’s similar. Stranger: Why is he wearing a dress? Yosuke: He likes to be pretty.

Labrys is a neat character so she needs a neat hobby. A hobby she would be doing is growing plants. This is mainly because of that p4au ending for Aigis. The whole lab becoming greenhouse is great and I’m mad it didn’t show Labrys seeing it. You bet she would have been amazed and flat out sob at the sight of 024’s weapon in the middle. Of course her and Aigis visit that place sometimes, call it their special place where Labrys tells Aigis about 024 and how great she is. After seeing the lab become a greenhouse, she gained the desire to grow plants. She does it out of memory for 024. She’s able to just get seeds from the greenhouse and bring it back to grow in pots and planters at home. It takes a few tries and a few dead plants, but she finally grows a healthy plant and she’s ecstatic. She shows off the plant to Aigis, Mitsuru, and the rest of Shadow ops and they’re all happy for her. She does eventually get Aigis on it so now both of em grow plants together. Both of their rooms now turned into little greenhouses themselves. It’s really pretty to see.
