• If it wasn’t polite, he would certainly feel hurt, particularly if you betrayed him or cheated on him. (this man would hunt you)

• He would probably remain on good terms with you after the breakup, (Assuming you ended things respectfully) However, he wouldn’t reach out first, instead, he may occasionally drive by your apartment to see if you’re home, keeping an eye on you from afar. He would never send someone else to check on you, not even Taeju.

• His ego would still be a bit crushed, as it’s hard for him to understand how he could lose someone as beautiful as you.

• Even after you’ve parted ways, he would occasionally be reminded of you during moments of reflection. He might try to drown those feelings with drinking.

Gangjae

• This guy is a walking red flag. If it weren't already obvious, he wouldn’t care if you broke up with him he’d still consider you his partner by force.

• At one point, he even put drugs in your drink while you were in "relationship" with him, believing that was the only way to keep you with him. Later, he would gaslight you, claiming he was the only one for you, knowing you would be vulnerable due to the drugs.

• He might act hurt, but he wouldn't genuinely care. He’d find ways to threaten you, targeting your family or friends until you stop "playing games" with him.

• There was even a time he considered kidnapping you, but he refrained because he believed he could have you whenever he wanted. Just threatening you was enough to make you crawl back to him.

• He wouldn’t respect your boundaries, even within the relationship. He’d still pursue other girls and flirt them in front of you, making you feel betrayed, just as he felt when you broke up with him.

Taeju

• He'll be understanding if you break up with him, although he may feel the need to know why it happened. Was it due to how he treated you? Was there a specific issue in the relationship? He'll have a lot of questions.

And I see people blame him a lot because of the rape scene.. I understand what he did was wrong but mujin killed jiwoos dad and he gets to get away with it? That’s not fair. Gangjae did try to rape jiwoo and tried to kill her but mujin is the one who made Jiwoo the way she is now. So isn’t mujin at fault too? I think he’s the real villain. I think if mujin was a rapist people would understand that he’s a bad person. So why don’t people hate mujin the same as gangjae? I also seen people say they ship the actors “sohee and ryul” and they edit that scene where he kisses her forehead and romanticize it. I think people are havinga hard time separating fiction and reality. Why is that so hard for people? Why do you think people are doing that? It rlly confuses me. And also taeju. I'm not familiar with the editing you're talking about. If you wouldn't mind linking me to some, I could better address that issue maybe. But it sounds like maybe you're saying that people are hating the actor himself for the way his character behaved in the series? Which....is not an uncommon thing in the kdrama world unfortunately. The separation of fiction and reality in that aspect is almost non-existent (mostly a problem amongst k-fans I think, but international fans are not wholly innocent).

Shipping the actors is fine, in my opinion. I have no problem with that. I don't see shipping real people as an issue with separating fiction and reality UNTIL you start involving the actors themselves. Once it starts impacting their real life and their real relationships, or when you notice that it's starting to affect YOUR reality, that's when it becomes a problem. But overall, shipping real people is completely fine and I support it.

I also have no problem with people shipping any and all the characters. If people want to ship Jiwoo with the character who set up her attempted rape and also tried to murder her, that's fine. I genuinely don't see a problem with it. These are fictional characters, and they're safe to play with and interpret their relationship in any number of ways. This also is not really a problem with separating fiction and reality, in my opinion. "Romanticizing" fictional relationships and scenarios is a safe and healthy way to process your own feelings, I think. I think people get hung up on the "problematic" thing a little too much, and don't just enjoy fiction for fiction. Just my opinion.

NOW....as far as how Gangjae is viewed compared to Mujin, that is a curious aspect. I think the attempted rape scene made Gangjae unforgivable in people's eyes, so yeah, if Mujin had done something like that then I think people's opinion of him might be a lot different. But we also get more of an idea of Mujin's motivations than Gangjae's as well. Gangjae seems a little less sympathetic, because we just really don't know who he is or why he's motivated to do the things he does. We just know he's young, and power hungry, and ambitious, and reckless, and selfish, and violent. We get just a very short introduction of him happy and smiling and seemingly friendly, before the shoe drops and the violence starts. So overall he just seems "worse" than Mujin, because there's really no "good" reason for why he is the way he is.

Mujin gets a little more sympathy because we get more of his backstory. He's also essentially a victim himself. He was lied to by the person he loved and trusted the most. This is a very very good motivation for his actions, and while yes, he was also a very bad person and manipulated Jiwoo and used her in unforgivable ways, the audience has more information. It's easier to explain Mujin's behavior, and take his side, or at least see that there IS another side to the story, even if his actions are not excusable.

Now, Taeju? Taeju had one sole motivation through the entire series: His love for Mujin.

EVERYTHING Taeju did was a direct reaction to his love and loyalty to Mujin. Mujin is Taeju's entire world, and whether you view that as familial love, romantic love, or simply loyalty of a good soldier, every single action Taeju took in the series was directly linked to his one singular goal of protecting Mujin. I think under different circumstances, Taeju and Jiwoo would have become very close. Taeju didn't like or dislike Jiwoo, he viewed her as the legitimate threat she was (to Mujin, and his relationship with Mujin, and Dongcheon, and his entire reality). I think his reaction to what Gangjae did to her wasn't necessarily brushing off the act itself, but what Gangjae did simultaneously shattered his image of the dongsaeng he'd taken under his wing, and also brought Mujin's wrath a little too close for comfort. Taeju essentially did blame Jiwoo for what happened, because to be completely fair and honest, had she not shown up the subsequent events would not have happened. So yeah. I think ultimately Taeju is fair for holding a little bit of hostility towards her for fucking up for basically fucking up his life. I do like to imagine an alternate universe where they were best friends though, with Mujin (and Donghoon) at their side and and everything is good and everyone is happy.

The thing to remember is that this series utilized archetypal storytelling extremely well. It's a simple revenge story, with archetypal characters, and the audience's reaction is exactly as it should be. People love Gangjae. People love Mujin. People hate them both. Everyone loves Jiwoo, because she's the hero of the story. So, as irritating as people's reaction to a character might be, it's also (from my perspective) completely natural.

(Except for the hatred towards the actor himself, that is not excusable under any circumstances, if that's what's happening.)
