So, I'm newish to fandom, right? Though I'm not new to being obsessed about particular shows, my last rounds of obsession came when the blogosphere was still a thing, and that's where my blathering about it in the tags energy went.

I get that "Positive feedback only on art and fic" is a way of extending support to artists and writers who make things for free! (I also have ascertained that we don't have the same norms for meta / nonfiction, which I find fascinating AF. Is it that meta's commitments are more explicitly intellectual, and that we therefore expect and accept a level of critique we wouldn't where fic and art are concerned?)

The caveat I've been seeing "Except where racism is concerned-- we call out racism ..."

We don't. Not universally, not consistently. And I'm going to bet calling out racism when that calling out actually happens is a comparatively new fandom norm, and there are some people who dismiss it as a form of moralism. My point here is:

Fandom norms aren't eternal, and (this is my blogosphere training talking)

Re: "ship and let ship," you like what you like, but what you like is culturally influenced. Subtracting the wrinkles from someone you're drawing comes from somewhere (and it's not always "I'm drawing an AU in which these guys met in high school"). Drawing someone as skinnier than they are comes from somewhere. (I'm thin. The number of times IRL someone has attempted to force-team me into bonding over snarking on someone for their fatness is substantial and not cute.)

The norm of "If you don't like it, use the back button" means if I nope out of your fic in chapter 7 because I just read a sentence in which Stede's eyes are blue, and that has been a pretty reliable proxy for racism, you will never know why I stopped engaging. You won't know that I stopped reading because your Ed can't read-- a detail that you think is canonical but that has been disproven multiple times in the show. You might think life intervened. No. I have three hours of commuting and a ridiculous amount of reading time. If I didn't finish a fic there is a reason why. Maybe you're happier not knowing it. Meanwhile I'm thinking: if we were actually friends, I would be working up the courage to talk to you about it, because Blogosphere Years Ago I promised that I would not let pointing out racism, fatphobia, ableism be the sole responsibility of POC, fat people, and people with disabilities.

I get that it's stressful to be called out. Hell, it's stressful to say "I have a problem with this" too! But I've also seen people do absolute master classes in responding to a gentle callout without defensiveness, and with changed behavior, and it made me better at in-person conflict to witness. One of my blogosphere lessons is: Preferring harmony over growth isn't neutral. It's culturally white, and it has costs (mostly to the people who don't share the cultural positioning of the majority).

So yeah: part of what makes me sad about the back button norm is that I think it reinforces a producer / consumer relationship between writers and readers. If I can't tell you when I've got a problem with something, and you can't tell me when you've got a problem with something, that's a hard limit on the extent to which we can know each other. (Also: because I write meta rather than fic, it is absolutely within tumblr norms for you to tell me my take is bad, even if it's not within fandom norms for me to say "I love this fic except for X.") And as someone who made enduring IRL friendships from my blogosphere days, I find that a bit saddening.

at first its subtle.

chat honestly thought ghost and you were very good friends. that was until he started to transition into quiting his day job to be a full time streamer. he asked several other streamers on how they keep a schedule, realistic goals, and how to keep the viewers entertained.

this meant branching out from just gaming.

ghost made his first appearance since he started the channel. you helped him black out the areas around his eyes and he donned the skull balaclava.

even though streaming would catch a lot of attention, ghost thought it would be better to keep a bit of privacy for himself. thus the mask.

you wore a plain black medical mask deciding it would be better to hide at least a part of your face for privacy.

the first thing chat picked up on was the difference in size.

they honestly thought ghost was bluffing when he told them he was 6'4.

he wasn't lying. the height difference shows when you hit him for leaning against you, arm on top of your head as the two of you chilled.

or when he wraps his arms around your shoulders and pulls you against him. out of the way of chaotic soap as he runs around the set like a child on crack.

it was interesting to see the way that the two of you interacted, especially because for so long you only had a voice/edits made.

chat constantly says they can see ghost blushing when you tease him on his size. you think its hilarious that ghost's jacked af yet doing an overglorified office job. he lowkey flexes everytime he sees you eying his muscles.

it gets even more hectic when soap joined. you and soap constantly clown on each other and chase each other around the house. chat either eggs it on or feels bad that ghost has two leash children he has to constanly look after.

two gremlins and a tired parent trio.

but when soap's talking to you, ghost will just silently stare. straight at you. practically without blinking.

he zones out a lot when he looks at you. thinking what you would look like or how you would react if he did the things soap does to get your attention.

someone pointed it out later with a small short. putting heart emojis and stars around ghost as the camera pans from him to you laughing at something soap said.

the channel has officially adopted your 'streamer' name despite being the editor. they call you hound. because you can be so playful and easygoing, yet in games and when editing you're absolutely ruthless in your worth ethics.

ghost calls you pup.

the first time he called you that chat flipped out. it was midday when you came in with food for ghost. because he hadn't eaten breakfast in order to stream.

you had briefly popped into the face cam as you said

'here's some food.'

'thanks pup.' ghost was too focused on defeating hollow knight that he let it slip. and chat went wild.

chat calls it out everytime ghost lets it slip. soap always ends up exploding with laughter as he mockingly calls you pup.

and ghost? he just crosses his arms around his chest and sulks. most likely pouting underneath the mask.

chat argues about the ship name.

ghost got a donation alert that asked him about his preference one day while he was streaming valorant. the audience could hear the way his chair creaked as he leaned back and thought for a moment.

"ghosthound."

he accepted no further answers or questions about it. but that day twitter made ghosthound trend. lots of pictures and posts claiming the ship is official as people absolutely fawn over this moody giant and his happy little editor.

feeding further into the shipping, ghost had mindlessly liked a really nice fanart of the two of you hugging.

and suddenly he's getting tagged in tiktok edits and fanart.

he secretly looks through all of them in his freetime. he would never admit it.

though you have seen him scroll through those tags a few times. you pretended not to notice.

overall chat loves ghosthound and wouldn't give up anything for it.

Voyager rewatch s4 ep18: The Killing Game pt 1

I love this one!! This has always been one of my favorite Voyager stories, and I never get tired of it. It's just so much fun. The entire crew having holodeck shenanigans in 1940s outfits? Heck yeah!!! Historical dress up play time is one of my favorite genres of Star Trek story, so I'm not gonna be super critical of the plot here. But I actually do think it was a cool concept to use the Hirogen taking over the ship, and using the holodecks for simulated hunts, as a device to get the crew into a 'safeties off' holoprogram, without just saying "whoops another malfunction!"

At first it seemed a little far fetched that the Hirogen would do that, but as the story went along, they show more of this particular Hirogen leader being more thoughtful than the other Hirogen we've seen. I actually thought it worked to have this forward thinking leader wanting to find a way to bring his people into the future, and save them from being scattered nomads obsessed with the hunt. The conflict between him and his more traditional second in command set up the ending well too.

I think dropping us in in the middle of the simulations already running really worked here, it lets the audience piece together what happened as more context is revealed to us, and kind of mimics the disorientation the characters themselves experience when they later realize what's really going on.

I absolutely love having the crew be resistance fighters in WWII France, and having them all think it's real is an even better stroke of genius, it's a like an alternate universe fanfiction, and all of them fit their holodeck personas so well. (Maybe a little too well, idk how the Hirogen knew Tom and B'Elanna were a couple to write them their little romantic subplot, but I don't even care! It's cute and I love it!! Star crossed lovers fated to be together in every reality is one of my favorite tropes, so I'm totally here for it!!)

I also love the sets in this episode- the nightclub run by Janeway's alter ego is a gorgeously atmospheric little spot I'd love to hang out in. The French village set is very pretty, and actually outside on a backlot rather than inside a soundstage, so it feels a lot bigger, and makes the story feel a little more epic. Despite it being a holodeck environment, there's always an extra aura of authenticity when they actually film things outside.

And of course, the fashion- everybody is serving looks in their 1940s clothes and hair the whole time. These are hot people to begin with, but the entire crew just becomes 1000% more attractive in these outfits. I mean look at this:

Captain Janeway in this white Marlene Dietrich suit?! MA'AM!!!

And then Tuvok in this white suit?! SIR!!!

Seven of Nine in this silver lame dress with her hair down?! A gift!!!

Even Neelix looks cute AF in his little French villager outfit:

Then they have dapper daytime outfits that are also major slays:

Ugh!! So much gorgeous!! (Apparently, my sexual orientation is just: Voyager Crew in 1940s Outfits)

And then Seven of Nine shows up in a cute little beret, and convinces me that she's actually adorable:

AND THEN we get American GI Tom and Chakotay:

Good lord, stop with all the hotness!! (Who knew a little brylcreamed hair was all it took to make Chakotay seem hot to me??)

It's fun to see them all subtly change the way they speak and act a little bit to fit the period and the setting- Roxann was a little softer and more refined as Brigitte than as B'Elanna, Tuvok and Seven show a little more emotion as their French personas than they usually do, Chakotay using the old-timey American slang that usually only Tom would know or use. (Tom, meanwhile, looks and acts pretty much the same- he's the very model of a wholesome middle american guy whether it's the 1940s or 2370s lol.) Yet they all still maintain their core character traits and relationship dynamics, even when they don't know who they really are. It's fascinating to watch and very thoughtfully done.

Meanwhile, poor Harry is left out of the simulation to try to hold Voyager together while the Hirogen divert all power to holodecks, and the Doctor is in charge of fixing up crewman who get wounded in the simulations. Harry secretly tries to find a way to disrupt the neural interfaces that keep the crew from realizing what's really going on, so that they can retake the ship.

The crew's holodeck personas plan to destroy communications at the German headquarters, and once again, we have fabulous outfits where they dress up all in black to sneak in:

Illegal levels of hotness going on here!! Rude!! How dare!!

Also Tuvok in this newsboy cap weilding a machine gun is just, like, hot damn:

(In real life guns are not cool, but in the story he's using it against nazis, so go off king!!)

So then, I forget what happens exactly, but the safeties are off, so when a bomb goes off, it doesn't stay confined to the holodeck, and it tears a hole through the ship's walls and reveals four decks worth of exposed corridors. I honestly don't remember Voyager's holodeck being that tall, the ceiling of the set we've seen was only like two decks tall, maybe 3, max, but maybe holodeck 1 is meant to be the bigger one, and maybe they've only ever shown us holodeck 2 up till now? Idk, but honestly, I don't even care, because it looks cool and I'm having fun!!

So that's where the cliffhanger leaves us, with Harry and the Doctor only having disconnected Seven and Janeway so far. I remember watching this for the first time as a kid and being totally enthralled by it. I was already a history nerd, and I grew up watching old Hollywood movies from the 40s, so this was very much my jam, even as an eleven year old. And by golly, I've never gotten tired of it in all these years, despite it being one of the few I would always rewatch whenever it popped up on a re-run.

Tl;dr: One of the most fun and genuinely exciting holodeck adventure stories in all of Trek, featuring the whole cast looking hot as hell in 1940s outfits, and shooting nazis. What more can you ask for, really?

First of all can, this list is immaculate (bar cutie pie, did not vibe with that one bit)

Secondly, I see you with your insane taste in ships. Maxnat from Two Worlds/Naughty Babe? This is top tier shit. I found Naughty Babe awful and mostly unwatchable (I'm not domundi's- the company who produced naughty babe and cutie pie- biggest fan) but MAXNAT??? That pairing have me wrapped round their fingers. Especially Max. Goddamn.

Thirdly, did you like love in the air? Thoughts on the second half of the show in particular? Because the other main couple (fort and peat) are my precious fucking baby angels and I would die for them. And if you liked them then my first recommedation is the currently airing Love Sea the series, because they're tearing me limb from limb. Every week they do something that thrills, excites, and terrifies me all in equal standing.

In terms of other recs, I can definitely give you a few I enjoyed, because your list is very good already and I'm seeing that we have quite similar taste.

I want to throw the show Manner of Death at you. You've seen Together With Me, and if you liked our boys Max and Tul and managed to wade your way through that show plus it's sequel, based on their chemistry alone, then Manner Of Death will be refeshing change for you. Because their chemistry is even better and the story line actually has a very clever and exciting narrative. Plus, its a lot more mature than your average highschool drama bl.

Tale of 1000 Stars is another show I really enjoyed. Its bl pairing is Earth and Mix, they have fantastic chemistry and the show has a really interesting plot that kept me hooked. It's a bit more typical thai bl in certain aspects, and the intimate nc scenes are next to none, but their relationship is one I was hooked on and I enjoyed the story a lot.

I have also enjoyed: 4 Minutes is only one episode in, but I can already tell it's going to be a favourite, which says a lot. But I am also very biased towards the lead male, Bible Wichapas aka Vegas from Kinnporsche. Man Suang is a movie, not series, but its on Netflix and its Mileapo from Kinnporsche. It's historical, gritty, heart-hitting, and just generally very fucking well produced. Moonlight Chicken (the side couple had me hooked immediately) Ingredients (cute af mini series with a Jeff Satur-Kim from KP) My Stand-In (I endjoyed it for what it was, it was a bit ridiculous) Vice-Versa (If you liked JimmySea you'll probably enjoy this) Bad Buddy (Great chemistry between the main characters) And a Taiwanese bl I liked was: History 3: Trapped.

May I suggest (a shortened version of one of my most developed hcs): Zuko being sick and clingy and Sokka taking care of him super diligently. Staying nearby and bringing him food and water and more blankets (and his coat hehe) and anything else he needs.

Also Zuko refusing to take the medicine Sokka brings him "because it's gross" but actually it's because he's maybe not so secretly enjoying this and doesn't wanna get better yet

Eventually he realizes it's not fair to Sokka even though he doesn't mind at all and would do it forever, so he finally takes the meds and is on the mend.

But to make up for delaying it for so long he starts getting up to do things for himself and tells Sokka he doesn't have to worry about it anymore but Sokka's like "nonsense you're not all the way better yet, go back to bed and let me handle this"

Sokka trying to make soup at some point but he absolutely sucks at cooking (no idea if this checks out or not, he just has that vibe to me) so he asks Katara or Aang (or Iroh if he's around) for help. No one tells Zuko that Sokka didn't make it himself.

I feel like that's a weird place to end the hc but it's 4 in the morning and I don't know anymore lol. I hope it's coherent enough to understand 😂 I don't sleep anymore I just write this stuff

Okay so, I’ma be real. I was kinda disappointed when they got together. I thought we were gonna have “Not Every Boy/Girl relationship is Romantic” representation. But as I read more of their relationship after that, I learned to love their relationship, because its not ALL romantic. They still have that same close friendship they did before they got together and I love that. Their 5 book build up was absolutely awesome tho tbh. Love a slowburn. They are genuinely cute, silly and fun. They are the old married couple at camp teaching the campers cool stuff together. They really compliment each other. Something so personal and perfect about their relationship is that they are both different kinda of smart. Percy is street smart and Annabeth is academically smart. Also, they are both strategic in their own ways and are strong af. The fact that they are basically each other and healing the other while healing themself is precious to me. They are both insecure and feeling lonely in a demigod world, but they found and completed each other.

Yeah, no. Super forced, and not stable. Piper is loving someone who she doesn’t even know, hence her having false memories of him. Jason doesn’t even know her and instantly fell in love. Personally, I’m not a believer in love at first sight. You have to get to know the person to truly love them for all they are. Piper is insecure and a girlboss and this relationship is keeping her alive in HoO, because she is so angry at the world. She’s living off Jason practically and thats not healthy for either of them. Jason is progressively learning about her, but it’s so middle school relationship stuff. Its really shallow love and Piper needs more than that as a child of Aphrodite. Jason needs that too because that’s just how he is but they’re relationship is built of the stress and desperation of war. So yeah. Sorry if this isn’t accurate, I haven’t read HoO in a bit and I’m not good with characters lol.

Frazel

They’re cute tbh. Age gap is a little scary, but I read something proving that they’re closer in age if you look closely. Anyways, I really like these two. They were crushing on each other before war and were really the only ones there for each other before Percy came to save the day for the Fifth Cohort. They literally had a normal crush on each other, like Percabeth but they didn’t do anything super dangerous together that brought them closer I’m guessing. Their quest with Percy brought out parts of Hazel and Frank that they needed to learn about in order to pursue a healthy relationship. They learned of each other’s pasts. On the Argo II, Frank being jealous of Leo is so cute honestly. Hazel comforting him for it too is awesome and its a cool dynamic. They are just a cool, calm, awesome power couple. They are super powerful and it was so cool to see them discover themselves together and loving each other for it. And interracial representation?? Hello?? Awesome rep, I think. Their cultural differences didn’t stop them and that’s so good for them.

Caleo

No. Just, hell no. It’s a relationship sculpted of desperation. Calypso being nice to him all of a sudden on the beach was uncalled for. Enemies to lovers can NEVER be rushed. They were super rushed. Both of them are desperate too. Calypso was desperate to get off her island and Leo was desperate for a partner after seeing everyone else have one. That is not healthy ‼️‼️ Also, Calypso is mean to Leo?!?! Calypso is bossy and kinda sorta rude to him. Like, hello??!? Leo is a little blinded by the desperation of love to realize this. If they really wanna make it work, get couples counseling from Percabeth, they are by far the healthiest couple. Caleo was def something Rick pulled outta his ass.

Solangelo

Solangelo is my biggest ship, I love them, but I do have some opinions fs. First of all, they are beautiful in theory. I love thinking of what they could’ve been. Yeah the canon’s cool, but Rick doesn’t know how to write gay characters. So most their content is different from the straight couple until TSATS. TSATS was much better writing. Rick had helped from a queer author so they acted like any other couple once again. Second, I love their simplicity. Like, they saw each other in war, thought the other was cute and was like “oh what the the heck?” and eventually got together after the war showing it was not desperation but real. Honestly, I think it started out as a crush then some shallow dating, but after being through the Tower of Nero and that whole thing, it started to get more real. In TSATS, we see them get a deeper connection. They’re whole little shallow crush thing is getting deeper and that dynamic is awesome. Also, they complement each other, and they’re dynamics are awesome. But I really love that they teach each other things. Like Will teaching Nico to embrace his light but to not forget his darkness. Nico teaching Will to embrace his darkness but not to forget his light. They are learning to be healthy and how to do this relationship stuff. I could go on forever about them and not be done so I’ll stop here.

5. Mission fic

There aren't that many mission fics posted for the HP fandom - and even fewer of them are completed or on the shorter side of things. Since my time's running out a bit I was looking for a not-too-long fic and finally settled for "Sticky Situations" by roni_mac. It's a microfic featuring Tonks and Remus and I enjoyed it very much. Made me grin and sigh in happy.

10. Crossover or fusion fic

As I mentioned earlier, I don't really have other fandoms I read fanfiction for, I'm fully committed to HP. 😆 So I had to look for a fandom for this prompt as well and in the end, I went with one I already have chosen before: Supernatural. And so I stumbled upon "Before You Die [Know This]" by ForgetThePlotBunniesPlotPangunsInstead. Never expected to ever read a John/Harry fic but I have to say I enjoyed it! Harry (or Hadrian as he calls himself here) is a bit on the rougher side, as most of the SPN characters are, but it suits him and I loved how he cared for Teddy. An entertaining read indeed!

6. OT3/Polyamory

Wasn't that easy to find a fitting story for this tag since my OT3 (Hermione/Severus/Ron) at this point has 17 stories; 3 are written by me, 4 are incomplete, 1 is falsely tagged, and with the rest, I don't really vibe. So I took a look at other Snamione threesomes and found "Accidentally On Purpose" by remarkable1. It features Hermione, Ginny, and Severus and is mostly PWP but since the women are planning to repeat this and make Severus a part of their relationship, I guess it counts. It was a hot read and I enjoyed it very much. ^^

17. Only one bed

Contrary to Severus and Hermione in this story, fate did actually arrange the right thing for me because @frenchpresswriter happened to publish exactly the kind of story I needed for my challenge. And not only that, she also gave a well-used trope a twist, something I love doing as well! "Two for the price of one" is a collaboration with @lunap999 so there's also a breathtaking and hot af art in this story you should absolutely check out! But do read the story as well, it's funny and adorable and just what I needed tonight. ^^

21. Fic from your first fandom

I was a bit contemplating this one because technically, I was a huge X-Files fan when I was younger. But I've never been part of a fandom because nobody around shared my excitement and I didn't have internet back in the day (yes, I'm that old). So I went for the first fandom I actively participated in: Buffy. And for one of my favourite ships back then: Willow/Giles. Yes, I've always had a thing for age gaps. 😂 Browsing the ship tag on AO3, I stumbled upon "Family" by glasswrks and, honestly, I think I'll need some time to recover from the cuteness of this little fic. Willow and Giles happily married? Yes, please! I loved it, brought back some memories. ^^

these are made up characters on a tv show, I cannot express this enough, my opinions on a tv show - no matter how important it is to me - do not matter in the grand scheme of things, and have no impact on anyone else. Neither do yours - do what you wish with your ships.

OTP - your favourite ship. the one you care most about. the one you (presumably) want to be cannon.

Multi-shipping - when you ship a character (part of your otp or not) with multiple people (this can be dependant on time, circumstance etc)

Do I want Buck and Eddie to be endgame? Absolutely.

Do I think Buck and Tommy are cute, deserve a fair shot and that Buck should get to be happy in a relationship? Without a doubt.

Why would I actively root for a relationship to go downhill when I can see that the characters are written to be good for each other? If the characters are written to not mesh (ie. Buck/Taylor) then I’m not going to root for that - I have faith in the story the writers are choosing to tell.

TLDR: support the storylines where your fave character gets to be happy.

Honestly this is hella hard to answer for me given that

a) I can't get myself to keep going with Volatile for some fucking reason so a lot of potential ships in my story aren't realized yet or worse the characters in it haven't even been properly introduced yet (kill me, I'm bad at this)

and b) I'm really not that good at this whole romantic ship thing I'm realizing, the relationships that I personally find the most interesting in my story are either platonic, friendships, parental, sibling like relationships...that kinda stuff.

There are very few ships that I have planned in Volatile at the moment. And a lot of them are kinda crack ships or ships that are completely doomed by the narrative aka me.

Then of course there's the fact that I would spoil the hell out of people by dabbling into ships that haven't been introduced yet so....eh.....

That being said, I don't know if I can really give a good answer to this, much less an answer that anyone reading this could actually follow or find interesting at this point in time x_x

They're not really a crack ship xD But I didn't really have the chance to develop them much just yet, so as of now they're just an outlet for more nsfw and edgy shit and a more unhinged Mabon who wouldn't really be in character in the canon universe.

I find their dynamic interesting though because I feel like they both see the worst parts of themselves in each other which validates them and their behavior in certain ways, but also causes them to low key despise each other. It's a picture book co-dependent relationship that could force them to confront parts of themselves that they'd probably much rather ignore.

My Personal Issues With Willet

Disclaimer: I wrote this post years ago but never shared it on any of my Tumblr accounts until now. This post is not meant to shit on Willet shippers or the futuristic four fandom or start a fight. If you can’t handle someone having a different opinion than you on the internet, then try reading a book.

Wait, what is Willet?

Willet is the crossover ship between Violet Parr from The Incredibles and Wilbur Robinson from Meet the Robinsons.

This crossover couple blew up around popular geek websites in 2007 after the release of Meet the Robinsons. I guess people assumed, “Oh, he has the same hair color as Violets and he’s kinda cute so they would be cute together.”

There’s fanart and fanfiction everywhere. I can’t go through the Violet Parr tag on Tumblr without stumbling upon the ‘willet’ or even the ‘futuristic four’ tag. Kind of annoying when you’re trying to look for content of your comfort character and your NOTP keeps popping up.

Now, I’ve seen Violet get shipped with a bunch of people outside The Incredibles from Danny Fenton to Peter Parker. I never cared for those crossovers myself but Willet is the one that irks me and makes me cringe the most.

And don’t get me wrong. I can be open minded about crossover couples. Just not these. Crossover couples can work and I’ve roleplayed some very unlikely ones as other characters. It’s not about how likely it is for Person A and Person B to meet. It’s about if they’d have chemistry.

Wilbur and Violet would not have chemistry. Here’s why;

He’s annoying af and she hates annoying people

Violet deals with an annoying brother on a regular basis. This is something everyone with a little sibling has the endure. So why would she settle for a loud, mouthy boyfriend? Wilbur is grabby and pushy too, and Violet wouldn’t like that. He’d be like a second annoying brother she’s being forced to tolerate.

And what if she has a question? Would Wilbur answer it or find out the answer for her? No. He’d go, ‘That is an excellent question’ and make no effort to see it answered. Tell me, would you overlook all that just because you think a guy is cute? Probably not.

His family be crazier than hers

Anyone who has watched Meet the Robinsons knows how crazy that dinner scene was. They weren’t just eating spaghetti. They were doing karate and shooting meatballs out of meatball cannons. And then family drama ensued. You think Violet wouldn’t throw her fork, pull out her chair, and leave? Or ask Mrs. Robinson to take her home? Because she absolutely would.

While the Robinsons are sweet and have a wonderful lesson to teach about failure, they’re not quiet. For Walts sake, one of them is married to a puppet.

Willet Work? It Willnot.

So, I’ve come clean. I’ve said I’ve severely disliked this ship for years but wouldn’t be vocal about it because I’m against ship bashing. While I don’t consider sharing reasons why a ship wouldn’t work ‘ship bashing’, some people would which was why I held back.

This is Tumblr so of course I’m expecting somebody to get mad. Throw your stones, I really don’t give a fuck.

I don’t like Willet because I love Violet too much and she deserves what’s best for her, whether it involves a boyfriend or not. Wilbur is not a good match for her.

All this The Bear Syd/Carmy shipping discourse unfolding on Twitter, Tiktok, here, and everywhere else has only reinforced what I’ve long since believed: the only people whose intentions I trust, in any fandom, are the handful of people I fuck with regularly. Watching this unfold the past few days has been downright comical.

Ship them, don’t ship them - that’s not the issue. The issue is that the reaction to the people that do ship them, from all kinds of fans, has been so aggressively over the top that I can’t help but shake my head. Let’s be for fucking real for five seconds. I’ve seen more pushback to Syd/Carmy than I’ve seen to Shuri/Namor, and Namor MURDERED SHURI’S MOTHER. And if you think there’s no overlap between those who hate one but support the other, you’re wrong lol.

See, stuff like that is why I can’t take y’all seriously when it comes to shipping. People swear up and down they like and respect these characters, then ship them with people who killed their moms. Or they swear it’s all about chemistry between two characters, but suddenly ignore chemistry if it comes in a package they don’t like. Hell, I don’t even think it’s about who folks think look cute together. No. At this point, I’m pretty sure most people are shipping purely based on who they feel most comfortable self-inserting with.

That’s why people don’t like Carmy/Syd. That’s why the idea of other people liking Carmy/Syd makes people so sick, even sicker than they usually get when a Black woman is involved in a ship. Not only is Syd Black, but she’s a little off beat and doesn’t take shit, and people hate when a BW character is written that way. A good deal of viewers didn’t even really like her during s1 (I remember the hateful tiktok comments vividly), so they cannot successfully self-insert with her, so they can’t deal with the ship. It has absolutely nothing to do with “let men and women be friends” or “let her be with Marcus” (don’t make me laugh, y’all don’t give af about them as a couple. When was the last time y’all cared about a Black couple of a show that was a “Black” show??? Besides, Syd doesn’t even like him like that, not now anyway), and everything to do with people not being able to see themselves as her.

I just… I wish people would stop fronting. Not just with Carmy/Syd, but with everything. I mean, I once said shipping Shuri/Namor was wild, and someone said I was antiBlack. I got so much shit, you would’ve thought I was talking about someone who didn’t kill her mom. Now, what seems more likely - that my Black ass is antiBlack for not liking a ship where one person killed another person’s parent, or that most fans of the ship only ship it because they want to fuck the dude that plays Namor and they’re using Shuri as a self-insert???? Lmaoooo. One day, just scroll through some of Shuri’s other ships, and I think you’ll be able to figure that one out. But it’s not just those two couples… it’s so so many.

Idk… it’s just so funny watching this Carmy/Syd ship be met with so much disgust, derision, and dismay, given all the shitty pairings nobody has a problem with. That’s why fandom culture needs to be honest about the fact that there are two kinds of shippers: those who ship because they really like a particular character, and those who ship because they really want to sleep with a particular actor, and the people mad about Carmy/Syd definitely fall into the latter category.
