[Mise en scene: Beside a cabin at some second-rate summer resort whence the Cattanooga Cats are spending a warm summer's evening in rather casual manner. Basically striking up conversation for the most part.]

GROOVE, rather enthused: I'd have to say that the diving experiences we've had can get to be rather interesting!

KITTY JO: And especially so when it's possible to just wear ourselves in the water ... doesn't that sensation feel so wonderful and cooling?

SCOOTS: I should say that it does, and I can certainly relate from experiences with one Amy Catline that one summer of my youth back in the holler, when my momma was going through that extreme nervous breakdown as had me out of the house most of the day ...

[Unto the scene comes no less than Amy Catline "herself," whose presence alongside the Cattanooga Cats was probably coincidence more than anything.]

AMY CATLINE, trying not to overdo the seduction angle: Hi there!

COUNTRY, slightly unnerved: Uh, how did you happen to know we were around, to begin with?!

AMY CATLINE, being casual about it: Just a coincidence. And I couldn't help but note how fascinated you must be about swimming and diving underwater, judging by the conversation you were getting into just now....

KITTY JO: We wouldn't mind if maybe you joined along with us....

AMY CATLINE: Glad to join in ... and how is my old friend Scoots?

SCOOTS, after clearing a lump in his throat upon seeing such a close figure in his crucial youth again: Rather delighted to see you again, Amy ... you been diving much of late?

AMY CATLINE: I should say we have ... at least I myself have ... and besides, what could feel more refreshing than being able to swim around underwater just wearing yourself in the cooling depths of some lake?

COUNTRY: Which is enough to inspire us into maybe going for a little ol' underwater swim in the lake just about sunset ... who's with me here?

[Which turns out to be pretty much everybody ... and you'll have to imagine for yourself the scene of such an interesting underwater swim amongst the Cattanooga Cats on some otherwise esoteric lake as sunset makes itself evident. And how interesting it turns out.]

Could you imagine this as the ideal dive vehicle for the Three Wolves (and, in a way, the Divin' Wolf Pups) heading to some remote lake whose access essentially requires four-wheel-drive trucks?

this is absolutely not professional advice but there's something about trust and handling and cooperative care that just boils down to whether your dog knows you have their best interest in mind. it's not just trusting your bond or them being calm or whatever, it's about experience. the time your dog gets a bone or a stick or a pez dispenser stuck between their teeth ideally shouldn't be the first time you poke your fingers in their mouth and they shouldn't be running away from you thinking you're trying to take it from them. there's something about your dog knowing not to freak out because parts of this experience is not new to them, and it's going to be fine.

Just HOW do Bon-Bon and Ding-a-Ling manage to catch fish underwater?

The two most unlikely diving wolf pups, mascots in a way of the Peter Potamus Travelling SCUBA Par-tay even (after Snagglepuss there)--as in Loopy De Loop's nephew, Bon-Bon, and the main cheerleader of Hokey Wolf, his son Ding-a-Ling--have something of a way when catching fish for fish fries and suchlike among the Three Wolves more so than the greater Travelling SCUBA Par-tay.

And for their age, it can be a little surprising.

And no, we're not talking about taking fishing poles underwater or using spears or harpoon guns when taking fish.

The two have an uncanny talent of sorts for using the claws of their forepaws to catch fish underwater. Yet its discovery turns out being shrouded somewhat in mystery, almost by accident even, coming about when the two pups started diving lessons at a young age (mainly mask-and-snorkel such), graduating to SCUBA over time.

But just be assured that both have developed such a weirdly lupine talent of keeping the claws sharp enough to catch fish underwater so as to eventually hold them in a net taken underwater during such diving sessions (yet not kill them seriously before being cleaned, gutted and filleted on shore, as well as knowing just when to release (as much as retract) the claws in so catching. Not to mention knowing the differences in various game and rough fish species so as not to get embarrassed making the wrong choices underwater.

Oh, and did I mention such claws also coming in handy in opening oyster and clam shells underwater, hoping pearls may be found in same?

you know the contrast between how Vergil is presented vs thinking too hard about Vergil’s story is pretty funny. Man’s reputation is this iconic badass, the pinnacle of what video game rivalries can be, the coolest guy to play as, the guy who breaks every game he’s added to,

and then you go to the story and like. man’s lost his free will and autonomy at 19 and then came back a fractured man half of which was a lovecraftian eye beast the other half of which was a chronically ill goth man. and then he reunites and hes in like his 40s now I believe but legit the last time he was actually in a game where he wasn’t being mind controlled when he was 19 which is both sad but also thinking about how this guy who’s considered one of the top badasses of gaming has never really lived life outside of being a teenager.

Anyways this is the secret comedic potential of post DMC5 for Vergil because not only has the human world probably changed a fair bit in terms of technology, if he’s sticking around Dante he’s gonna actually have to learn in depth how taxes and grocery shopping work. Amazing.

"Do you know where we are going next?" I asked ART.

Y'know what, I think maybe I don't need any more Murderbot books. I think maybe ending things here is fucking perfect and as much as I love Wells's writing I'm genuinely not sure it can get better for me.

Like, so much of the books are about MB learning how to be a person, about becoming okay with being a complete individual with everything it entails. The first thing it does once it's actually allowed to decide on its own is it runs away from it all (admittedly to go on a mission to confirm some things about its past, because it genuinely just wants to be *good*). It shoves all its emotions away as much as it's able to. Then shit happens, and it makes its first friends, makes decisions based on these friendships, goes through a lot of emotionally intense situations...

And we get to this point here. MB having zero doubts about going with ART says a lot about its relationship with ART, but it also says a lot about its relationship with its humans - it knows that wherever it goes, when it comes back, the humans will still be there. Its humans actively acknowledge its struggles with being a now-free SecUnit and MB is willing to entertain the discussions to an extent and share information about its deeply personal experiences. Hell, System Collapse ends with MB admitting it might be somewhat broken, but that's okay as long as it can keep doing its job, and agreeing to basically do counselling - this is the guy what would rewatch its favourite TV show again and again in order to avoid acknowledging it even had Emotions a couple books back.

Reading this, I know that MB will be okay. It has hopes and goals and genuinely believes in itself and it has an amazing support system that its willing to lean on for the first time in its life. I'm convinced it'll go on to do great things with ART. And that's really the only thing I need to know.

I fixed up a dress my mum made 20 years ago and spontaneously hopped on a plane to attend the Labyrinth Masquerade this past weekend. Absolutely amazing event, totally beyond words. It was so so SO wonderful to be surrounded by gorgeous costumes and genuinely nice people again, enough to spark my love of costuming back again. I am dying to make a proper original costume now for next year!!! 🥹😤
