Eve, the first woman throughout the Abrahamic faiths. Created from the first man, Adam’s, rib, Eve was created to be a companion for the lonely Adam. The two of them fell in love, with them enjoying the paradise of Eden. One day however a snake spoke to the two, it manipulated the innocent humans to defy God’s will and eat from the tree of knowledge. Because of this Eve and Adam were cast out of Eden. Despite the newfound darkness within their hearts the two stayed together, from their love birthed two children Cain and Able. Cain grew jealous of Able and in a cold fit of envy, murdered him. As punishment Cain was banished forever rejected from his family forced to forever wander without end, for his transgression God cursed Cain with a touch that would wither and kill anything he touched. Despite this tragedy Eve gave birth to many more children, most importantly Seth, the originator of the biblical blood line of kings.

Eve is one of the most important figures in all of the Abrahamic religions. She is given a significant amount of reverence in most denominations, though some cast her in a negative light placing the blame for the fall entirely on her despite there being little to no canonical basis for such radical blame. An idea first recounted in some Kabbalist beliefs was that Eve was Adam’s second wife, the first being Lilith who was cast out and turned into a demon. In Gnosticism she’s seen as the human embodiment of Barbelo, the primordial female principle emanated from the real God, similar to how Adam was said to be in God’s image. In Christian tradition, Eve was said to be the precursor to the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, to the point where Mary was said to be the second Eve. Eve is believed to be the Abrahamic version of the divine mother goddess, this is accentuated by her connection to the original Semitic mother Goddess Asherah, the both of them sharing many of their names and roles.

i personally think the fandom should do more with the fact that Frank does not only have heritage from two gods - he actually has heritage from three.

He's directly the son of Mars, but his demigod ancestor Periclymenus is not just the grandson of Poseidon. Periclymenus is also the son of the goddess Chloris.

not to mention, all three of those deities actually have associations with plants - Mars has agricultural aspects, as he had elements of representing ideal Roman life. Chloris is sometimes just generally a nymph and a goddess of spring and flowers. And Poseidon has a specific epithet of "the nurturer" specifying his role in watering plants and contributing to agriculture, particularly near the sea.

a.) that's a really interesting common thread for all Frank's divine ancestors to have given his life is tied to a piece of wood, b.) him having three divine ancestors makes way more sense as to why the gods had to nerf him, c.) just in general the irony of Frank's life being tied to firewood when Percy explicitly has resistance to burning as a descendant of Poseidon and Ares kids in general are just heavily implied to be tanky as fuck. and if we tie Chloris into that, something something you know how some plants need fire in order to grow. that. it's a metaphor.

Adam, the first man, was created toward the end of creation. God sculpted Adam’s form from dust or mud, and personally breathed life into him. As the first human, Adam named the various animals that walked throughout Eden. Though his life was luxurious it wasn’t without sadness, as Adam felt he was alone. So in his sleep, God took one of his ribs and used it to create Eve, the first woman. As Eve was his other half the two almost instantly fell in love. However, one day the two conversed with a snake within Eden, the snake tricked them into eating a forbidden fruit that contained the knowledge of all things evil. God punished the two lovers by kicking them out of heaven for disobeying the word of God as well as punishing the snake who tricked them, forcing him to crawl upon his stomach for all eternity.

The story of Adam in genesis is one of the most prolific stories told among abrahamic religions. A version of the garden of Eden exists across all Abrahamic denominations, in Gnosticism the garden of Eden is put into a positive light as an attempt by God to liberate Adam and Eve’s spirits from the cage of the physical put on them by the tyrannical spirit Yaldabaoth. In Islam the pair are forgiven by God once they apologize for their actions, God as thanks sent down the black stone and had heaven’s angels bow down to the first humans. In some non-canonical traditions, Adam’s first wife was Lilith, after forcing herself onto Adam she was banished from Eden, ultimately turning into a demon. In some traditions the original Adam was thought to be intersex, possessing traits of both males and females, but was later split into the Adam and Eve known today. The actual historicity of the events in Eden is still a highly debated subject among believers. Some contest it actually happened physically, some say it happened spiritually not actually taking place on earth, and some say that the story is a metaphor for mankind’s inherit hubris.

Hoodoo divination practices

First and foremost, it's vital to dispel the common misconception—Tarot is not a native element of Hoodoo. While incorporating Tarot into Hoodoo practices isn't inherently wrong, recognizing its newness to the tradition is crucial. Hoodoo, grounded in resourcefulness, thrives on utilizing what's at hand. Traditional Hoodoo divination paints a vibrant picture, involving practices such as water scrying, star gazing, dreams, visions, psychometry, conversations, and bibliomancy.

These practices aren't confined to rituals; they seamlessly weave into the fabric of everyday life for Black individuals. The prophetic nature of the community fosters an innate knowing that serves as a guiding force—a unique form of divination.

However, the dark era of slavery deprived practitioners of access to various tools later integrated into the Hoodoo system. As the tradition evolved, native tools emerged, including cartomancy, dice, dominoes, bone throwing, and automatic writing. Mastering a divination form native to the Hoodoo lineage is more than a choice; it's a pivotal step towards becoming a proficient practitioner.

Importantly, Hoodoos are advised against heavy reliance on tools. Instead, tools serve as confirmations, with the primary goal being the mastery of clairvoyant abilities as a prophet and psychic. This mastery stems from self-awareness, unwavering focus, and the ongoing journey toward self-mastery.

Samhain is approaching and the veil is thinning. It’s the time to connect with the ancestors and collective dead. It’s the time to practise scrying or divination.

For your altar, decorate with natural things from your areas to honour the local land spirits and dead. Fallen leaves, acorns etc. carve or decorate a pumpkin for your altar or windowsill. Gather some local grave yard dirt for your altar if permission is given by the graveyard grim.

Practice divination with any tool you are drawn to. Traditionally it’s a time of scrying and all you need is a dark colour bowl filled with water and a darkened room lit only by candlelight (ensuring candles are not near anything flammable and secure in holders). The water you gaze into should be reflected by candlelight, soften your gaze as you look into your scrying bowl, it does take time and practice but stick with it and keep a note book close by for journaling.

You can also practice your tarot technique as well. Do a reading for yourself or even for the energy of the season. Maybe gather some friends together and do a group reading too.

Honour your ancestors by placing photos of passed loved ones on an altar for the ancestors. You could also add graveyard dirt,found animal bones, herbs associated with the dead etc and can be as simple or as fancy as you like. You can even offer the ancestors an offering. I often do one of incense, candle light and blessed water. I often do this around the dark moon and say the following to them during my offerings

On my ancestor altar (above) I have my late husband, my father and grandparents, aunts and uncles and even a passed beloved pet cat!

I give my offerings and say my words which I share with you here.

“Ancestors, I call to you now to be here with me now and always. Accept these offerings with the love they are given. I offer you Earth the grounding element to secure, I offer you water, the spiritual pure element. I offer you incense the air element for communication. I offer you a candle, the fire element for light and warmth. Ancestors accept these simple offerings in love and remembrance. Beloved Ancestors feed on this earth, smoke, water and light to nourish and strengthen you. Blessed be”

You can tailor the words to suit you and your ancestors and doing this on Samhain and every dark moon helps to strengthen the bond.

The Intro To The Intro to Spirit Work

I have some anecdotes and some advice. When I was a kid, I could not figure out for the life of me why this kept happening. If I was, for example, wrestling with a really stuck jar lid. I could be fighting with it, and fighting with it, trying all the tricks, cold water, tapping it on the counter -- anything. And then the moment I hit defeat, still arguing with the jar in my hands, I would waddle over to my mom and as it was in the process of coming out of my mouth; "Can you open this ja-"

The seal would break. Holding the jar in one hand and the lid in the other, my mom would just stare at me. And that was it and I'd be like oh okay sick, thanks, the universe? This was a regular occurrence for me. It came to the point where I started asking for help out loud even if no one was home to hear me, and usually it was well received.

This is how I have been working with spirits since I was like 10 years old. I genuinely believe it's this easy, and while proclivity naturally varies person to person, I do think this is something most people experience and just don't even realize. When spirit workers complain about how vague and subtle the spirit world can be, this is what we mean. Its like if you asked someone to interact with light. Light rays are just here! Sometimes you get a a glorious view of rays beaming through a part in the clouds on a gloomy day, but for the most part it's just here doing its thing not even taking mind in what I am doing.

Working with spirits is like asking a fish about water. Water is an integral facet of being a fish. A fish struggles to identify water because its all he knows! A fish knows nothing of land as he cannot survive there. Interacting with spirits is similar to feeling your emotions while also being aware of them. They're here all the time and most people do not even realize that it's spirits they are interacting with. This is the bright side, but this is also the bad news at the same time lol. It means that without a doubt, if you're considering working with spirits, its because a spirit asked you to and something in the spirit world wants your attention. Congratulations, you are already working with spirits.

The practice, now, becomes noticing and translating what spirits have to say to you. This is where most people take a wrong turn. This is not something you can force. Think of it as a bird friend. If you move too quickly or too abruptly, you'll scare her. If your emotional world is too tumultuous and you struggle to keep it still and gentle, it will interrupt your connection. Mindfulness, self-awareness, and meditation are the bread and butter of spirit work. If you are self-aware, you can discern, "is this message coming from inside the house? Is my empathy activating? Or is this something outside myself making itself known?" The better you understand your own inner workings, the easier it is to filter out that noise.

Sometimes its helpful to imagine a spirit as a virus in your prediction. Its probably not going to be malicious like a virus but bear with me. Due to previous experience, I had no expectation that an 8 year old would be able to open this jar, but when I reached out with my voice for assistance, it didn't even need to reach another alive person before that call was received. My entire childhood, every time this happened I would freeze in shock and awe. It was weird. According to what I know of physics, it seems unlikely that this would be the course of events. But something different happened that I was not able to anticipate.

I was on vacation with a friend and we were visiting a historical Civil War cemetery in Virginia. As is customary, I brought them to greet what I understood to be the eldest grave, one of a young Black girl born a slave during the very early 1800s. The grave marker was unique, as in it seemed haphazard and makeshift. As we were taking it in, my friend pulled out their phone to take a picture. Immediately something in me turned sour, and they couldn't see me how we were standing, but I kind of grimaced. I wasn't intending on stopping them, I was content with observing. Then I watched them start to put their phone down.

The feeling I had gotten, I can only describe as, seen. The thought came into my head that, "Wait a minute, did they hear me? Does she get it?" My grimace fell and I was left almost puzzled instead. I did not feel personally attached to this thought. It did not feel like it came from inside the house. It carried the same tone as if I was standing in line eavesdropping on the people around me. Their phone came back up and she took the picture and we left.

I am completely convinced that, while unconfirmed because I didn't have any tools with me, we heard to a spirit for sure, possibly the spirit of that little girl. I genuinely felt like I had overheard two people having a conversation.

"Can I take a picture?" "No! This is my home! Be respectful!" "Oh, okay sorry." "Wait you can hear me? Well I didn't know you were cool. Maybe in that case, its okay."

I spoke to my friend about this and they said when they took their phone out, they had felt something along the lines of, "Well maybe I don't have to take a photo of everything we come across," and that's when they lowered their camera. But then they said something changed. I felt a spirit changed their mind and gave them permission. This stands out to me because we both experienced it. We both felt that energy shift. I was not upset at my friend for taking a million pictures, even if I don't relate, so I don't feel this emotion was mine. I didn't feel my friend change their mind mid-thought because, well to be honest they don't do that lol. They are not exactly the mindful type, and they don't really love having original thoughts or using their intuition.

TLDR; This is the part that I am trying to drive home. When you're first beginning, its hard to notice spirits. And then there's the phase where everything feels like it could be a spirit or a sign. Which is entirely possible! But also not every spirit is trying to get your attention or has something to say to you just like not everybody at the grocery store is immediately your best friend. Sometimes you'll bump into a spirit just long enough for you both to diverge paths without even noticing. When you don't yet know what to look for, spirits sometimes can manifest similarly to your own emotions (I'm convinced that's because this is how we interact with our own spirits on the daily, but that's another post). A feeling. The difference to look out for is it's source. If you're feeling angry and upset or sad and hopeless seemingly out of nowhere with little to no prompting, consider if its a spirit. If you suddenly feel warm compassion lying motionlessly on your bed, consider if it's an ancestor's spirit touching you. If you violently get the urge to acquire a ukulele when you've never played an instrument before in your life, maybe that's Apollo reaching out to you. If the source is murky, dig deeper.

My other take away for you is to ask. Literally ask your question out loud. "Are there any spirits here? Who are you? What's your name? Do you have a message for me? Is this tarot card even or odd? Can I take a picture? Will you help me open this jar?"

For the last several months the yoni space has been a more highlighted area of focus within myself and my clients. I always push the importance of genital wellness, but lately I’ve had to push it more.

It’s mentioned here and there by others that we should take better care of our womb space. It’s great that we are paying attention to it more and more when it comes to sexual partners and self love, but y’all… what else is knotted up in there: bad gossip, sexual abuse, spiritual abuse, evil eye, etc?

Literally, most of my current clients are being assisted with toxic generational patterns, PTSD, and even black magick being trapped in the womb.
