can u do dating king ben headcannons
❦King Ben dating headcanons❦
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I loved writing this and I could go on forever about him so if anyone wants more of these headcanons I still have loads in my brain! Thank you for requesting!! <3 I made it gender neutral as I didn’t know if you wanted it with a female reader or not hope that’s ok!
Warnings: none
Tumblr media
-He is the most respectable and affectionate boyfriend ever. Once you’re dating he always has his hands somewhere on you because he loves being close to you. His absolute favourite though is forehead touches. It allows him to look directly at you with no interruptions.
-Cannot take his eyes off of you. Even before you started dating he would just go into his own world while staring at you. Would spend forever looking at you if he could.
-Before you started dating he would always try to impress you but he’s a little nervous so it ends up being a bit of a clumsy mess but you found it cute and laughed at him so he saw it as a win. Would go from being clumsy to so smooth with flirting with you though.
He jogs up to you at your locker after class and leans on the lockers next to yours. He’s looking down into your eyes, not breaking contact while wearing his signature smirk and just comes out with shameless flirting that I don’t think he even realised he’s doing it. It’s such a shock to your system you just turn to mush and hide your face from him. Would be the type of man to lean down so that he could still see your face or grab your chin and bring your face back to him.
-Could take him back to your parents any day, maybe not if they’re villains though they would probably hate his goody too shoes kind of life.
-Would always stand up for you and defend your name.
-His love for you is so pure and unbreakable. He definitely falls first and deeper. Ben just holds so much love for you that you would never be able to comprehend it.
-Would treasure anything you ever gave him even if it was as simple as a daisy you picked when you were sitting on the grass together. He would watch you so closely if you ever made a daisy chain and would be more than happy to wear it. Would happily let you place flowers in his hair if it made you happy.
-Loves holding your hand and will always take the opportunity to hold it. Makes cheesy excuses to do it even if you’ve been dating for a while. Would be like “your hands are freezing, I definitely need to hold them to warm them up”.
-Cheesiest boyfriend ever. He does most of it on purpose just to see you smile.
-Hopeless romantic and can’t help but to spoil you. Ben is always organising the cutest and romantic dates you could imagine. Always gives you your favourite flowers.
-Would always be so interested in anything you have to say, staring so intently into your eyes so that you know he’s listening. He would remember the smallest details about you and when it resulted in him getting you a gift or saying something to do with it you would melt. He wouldn’t know how to react because he just saw it as a normal thing to do because why wouldn’t he remember everything about you and everything you say to him?
-Is a puppy. Will follow you everywhere he can and will be at your beck and call. Will also whine and moan whenever he’s not in your presence or you have to leave him.
-Would do anything for you and would do anything to see you happy, he can’t stand it when your sad.
-Would give you absolute princess treatment no matter your background. Always pulls your chair out for you, holds doors open and would lay his jacket over a puddle if needed. The type of boyfriend to swap shoes or clothes with you if yours were hurting you and would have no shame if he looked weird. Would also carry you round on his back if you preferred that option.
-Would dedicate any points or winning games to you. Would definitely try to teasingly embarrass you this way. It would mean the world to him if you came onto the pitch after a winning game and ran into his arms. Would pick you up and swing you round, giving you a massive kiss when he puts you down.
-Loves, loves, LOVES seeing you in his clothes. He would feel that deep feeling of love for you and his beast would slightly come out with any feelings of possessiveness it ignited in him. Imagine him seeing you wear his crown he would be on his knees for you.
-Loves when you run your fingers through his hair, especially when cuddling. If you ever refused, even in a joking way, he would beg you to do it with his best puppy eyes.
-Is the best hugger ever. His height combined with his big arms make for the comfiest and warmest hug ever.
-If the beast ever comes out he would be so protective over you it would be so funny. I feel like this side of him even when in his normal form would make him such a biter. Not even sexually, he just gets the urge to lovingly bite your shoulder and nibble.
-Always keeps you close by his side, especially at big events. Mainly so no harm comes to you but also because your a massive comfort to him and being in your presence immediately calms his nerves.
-Ben is a big cuddler and could be either big spoon or little spoon depending on the day. Definitely loves lying on top of you, his face on your chest listening to your heartbeat or squished into your neck.
-Always confides in you with any worries he has about becoming king and ruling Auradon. You immediately squish them and reassure him.
-He couldn’t wait to rule the kingdom beside you with you as his king/queen. Would lovingly call you “my queen/king”. In fact he would give you every pet name under the sun he just couldn’t help himself, his love for you poured out of him in buckets and he just had to let you know in every way he can.
-Would always show you off to everyone and be so proud to call you his partner. Ben would bring you up in conversation all the time and everyone just got used to it and let him because they secretly thought it was cute how in love he was with you.
-Acts like he’s under a love spell with how down bad he is for you
-Overall the love you share is so soft and pure it’s such a fairytale relationship and all you could ever wish for. Ben is the perfect boyfriend.

hush! — b.f
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: you and ben are together, which your friends predicted would happen except, tonight was not the night you would prove them right. who? ben florian x fem!reader a/n: someone stop me from putting ben in secret relationships all the damn timeee
Tumblr media
y/n?? it’s jane!!
“what-” ben muttered under his breath, barely breaking away from your mouth as he glanced towards the door.
there you were, lying on your bed in the midst of a passionate make-out session when unexpected knocks echoed through the room, causing both of you to freeze. you broke away from each other, startled by the interruption.
“just shut up and hide under the bed, now!” you whisper-yelled to order him.
ben looked at you, his expression a mix of surprise and amusement.
“under the bed? seriously-” he was ready to protest but the authority in your eyes made him realize that this wasn’t debate.
he quickly nodded and made sure he was out of sight and under the bed while you scrambled to hide any sign of his presence here, like the sweater he took off during your heated encounter a moment ago.
as jane kept on knocking, you quickly composed yourself and turned towards the door. you plastered on a wide smile, hoping that she wouldn’t notice your semi-disheveled look.
her smile widened as you opened the door, a sheepish expression on her face. she was clearly unaware of the situation she had interrupted, you thought.
“hey, can i come in for a second?”
she let herself in while your focus remained on appearing normal. “uh, sure, what did you want to talk about?”
“you know, girl stuff.” you stiffened as she was about to take a seat on your bed.
immediately, you lunged for the bed and took her by the arm to go sit on the window seat with you. slight confusion colored her face then, and you silently prayed that she wouldn’t ask any questions. thankfully, she let it go.
“it’s about carlos.” she whispered, as if she was sharing a secret. whatever it was, she seemed really eager to tell you about it.
“okay..” your eyes glanced back to your bed’s foot, still worried about your boyfriend down there.
“so.. you know how things have been going well between us? like really well?” her voice got progressively higher as she got closer to what she wanted to say.
you tried to focus but the wait made it impossible to. a few minutes ago, ben was kissing your face off for god’s sake. the come down was quite hard and thankfully, jane hadn’t noticed anything yet. however, you didn’t have time to fix yourself properly.
using your finger, you tried to wipe your mouth off and jane stopped.
“are you okay? because we can talk about this another time if you want.”
she didn’t know how great that would be. but she looked so happy coming in here, you might as well hear her out now.
you hummed, “i’m fine! you were telling me about you and carlos.” you said with a soft playful tone.
“yes, so today he asked me something,” she paused, building up the suspense, “he asked me, to be his girlfriend.” she blushed, her eyes sparkling with joy.
“oh, my god, jane!!” you extended your arms and hugged her, congratulating her, when you were caught off guard by a loud bang coming from underneath your bed.
jane pulled away from the hug to look around before looking back at you, puzzled by the cause of the disturbance.
“what was that?”
you took a long minute to come up with something believable before you decided to rush her into a hug again, keeping her head away with your hand.
“nothing, nothing! this is just awesome news jane, i’m so excited for you!”
despite being disoriented by the unexplained noise, jane was quickly distracted by your enthusiasm. she was grinning again, totally oblivious to the fact that you were trying to keep her gaze away from the bed.
“thank you, i mean i never thought i’d find someone like carlos. he’s so sweet, and we just click, you know?”
you genuinely smiled. “yeah, i know. you guys are really cute together.”
you thought about what you also shared with ben and- ben. he was still hiding under your bed for god’s sake. you cleared your throat, snapping out of your daze.
“jane, i am so sorry, i have a big day tomorrow and i’m exhausted, why don’t we talk about it more then, mmh? over lunch, sounds good?” you suggested while hurrying her to the door.
“yeah! uhm, totally, sounds good!”
“okay, bye, goodnight jane!” you pushed her out of the dorm, shutting the door behind.
resting your back against it, you exhaled. the silence that started to settle in was broken by ben’s voice, under the bed.
“thought she’d never leave.”
you snorted as he came out of his hiding place, his hair slightly tousled from being underneath furniture, “shut up, she was excited.”
“i could tell, she didn’t even notice me down there.” he chuckled, clearly finding the situation amusing.
“almost” you pointed out, “what was all of this noise about?” you joked while his hands found your waist, pulling you closer to him.
“oh, that was just me trying to find a comfortable position under there.” you lightly slapped his chest as he feigned innocence. he laughed and you couldn’t hold in your own chuckle.
“thank god she was too busy talking about carlos to notice anything, otherwise she wouldn’t have let us hear the end of it.”
ben’s smile only widened, visibly picturing the scenario in his mind.
“i think it’s time for me to leave, too.”
“what?” your smile fell, your hands gripping his forearms. “why?”
ben’s eyes met yours as you looked back up at him. he recognized the disappointment in your tone and felt bad.
“i don’t think we want your roommates to find us like jane almost did.”
you remembered how you kept your relationship a secret, so your friends wouldn’t know they were right after they spent the past year pointing out how obvious it was that you liked eachother. you were 2 months in already, and it got harder each day.
“mmh, you’re right.” you muttered, your sad eyes leaving his.
his hand tucked a hair strand behind your ear, causing you to look up again, “maybe we should just tell our friends. they’d be happy, you know.”
“i know, i just really hate being wrong.” you wrapped your arms around his back and he reciprocated the action, his head resting on top of yours.
you pulled away and stood up on your tiptoes to meet his lips.
“for the road.” you whispered close to his lips.
ben smiled against your lips as you went for another kiss, savoring every second of it. his fingers trailed up your back before he reluctantly pulled away completely, clearly not wanting to leave your side yet.
“okay we should go before they catch us red-handed” you warned him playfully.
ben’s eyebrows rose, “we? you’re coming with me?”
“you really thought i was about to sleep in my dorm alone tonight? after the day we’ve had?” you scoffed, “just open the door already.” he laughed and took your hand in his while leaving your dorm.
as you ran around the school’s hallways, trying not to get caught, you thought about how you would gladly let your friends win this one argument. for once, you were really thankful that they were right.

・。Rings 💍
You've ordered: a bone-shaped lemon tart! enjoy!
Tumblr media
"It's always been just him and me, together."
Divus Crewel x spouse! reader | word count: 994 words
Summary: the students don't know you're married to their alchemy professor 💍 (silly little crewel drabble! :D)
Warnings: kinda rushed, not proofread. other than that, none!
Note: not my best work, but hey- it is what it is T-T. i will definitely be writing more for crewel in the future! also, i use they/them pronouns for reader. feel free to change them to your preferred pronouns while reading
"Did you guys know that Professor Y/n is married?" Ace exclaimed, receiving reactions of utter shock and complete indifference.
"You're just now finding out?" Jamil asked as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Wait, you knew? Since when?" Grim asked, his face stuffed with a meat filled pastry.
"Since the first day of class. I noticed the ring when they was handing out papers."
"Do you know who they're married to?" Kalim questioned, Jamil shaking his head.
"All I know is that they're married to a professor. I happened to overhear them talking with another student who asked."
"Professor Trein's too damn old to be their husband and Coach Vargas already told us he's not gonna get married anytime soon." Deuce explained. "And we've never seen Professor Crewel wearing a ring."
"Maybe he doesn't teach here?" Grim mumbled, finishing up his pastry and making a failed attempt to take Deuce's.
"Look! There they are." Ace announced.
The others turned around to see you walking through the cafeteria, greeting students. When you spotted their table, you smiled and waved at them, stepping over. "Good morning everyone! How are you all doing today?" you asked, your voice warm and inviting.
The boys all gave pretty halfhearted responses as their eyes drifted to the ring on your finger. Whoever your husband was, he was definitely loaded. That diamond was the size of their heads.
You followed their gaze, giving a quiet laugh as you reached you hand out, letting them get a better look at the ring. "Before you all ask: yes, i am married."
"Wow! That's a gorgeous ring!" kalim exclaimed, taking in the sparkly rock.
"So, uh...what's your husband like?" Ace outright asked, earning himself a kick under the table from Jamil. "Ignore him, Professor."
"No, no. I don't mind at all. He's very sweet and kindhearted. He's very passionate about his teaching and wants his students to succeed. He's the best man I've ever met, really." you sighed dreamily, thoughts of your husband filing your mind.
The group found it rather sweet, whispering among each other for another question to ask.
"Well, I must be on my way. See you all in class later!" you smiled, giving them a nod as you left the cafeteria and them dumbfounded.
You were currently in your classroom, setting things up for your next class. You taught Magical Botany and Herbalism, a class that happened to go hand in hand with Professor Crewel's Alchemy class.
As you checked in on the various plants growing in your "plant corner" of the classroom (you also used the botanical garden to grow things), you heard the sound of footsteps behind you. Turning around, a wide grin spread over your features as you saw the familiar face.
"Professor Crewel, what a pleasant surprise." you said, a tinge of excitement in your voice at seeing your husband. yes, you were married to none other than Divus Crewel, alchemy professor and dog lover alike.
"Y/n, you know you can drop the formalities when we're alone." he said, stepping over to you. his arms encircled your waist, making you laugh a little.
"Crewel, our students might see!" you exclaimed, pretending to scold him despite your arms already wrapping around his neck.
Crewel gave you one of his flashy grins, resting his forehead against yours. "So? At least then, the puppies will stop bombarding me with questions."
"What questions?" you mused, having a good idea of what they were.
"Like, if i have a crush on you." the alchemy professor said, making you burst into laughter.
"Well, we're married, so I would hope so!" you snickered, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Just as your conversation was going well, a few whispering voices could be heard from behind the door. Voices you two knew very well.
"Stop pushing!"
"shh, they're gonna hear us!"
"Did they say they're married?"
You and crewel exchanged a knowing glance, walking over to the door and opening it. Im tumbled Grim, Ace, and Deuce, all three of them with rather guilty looks on their faces.
"Oh? Deuce, this isn't the botanical garden!" Ace said, trying to sound convincing (and failing).
"Where you puppies eavesdropping on us?" Crewel asked, his tone turning stern. You placed a hand onto Crewel's shoulder, shaking your head.
"Let's at least hear them out."
Crewel was about to protest, but nodded his head, letting them explain themselves.
"We were just curious about who Professor Y/n was married to!" Grim blurted, Ace facepalming and Deuce silently scolding the cat-like creature.
"Like he said, we never would've guessed it was Professor Crewel. He never wears a ring." Deuce explained.
You couldn't help but laugh, Crewel rolling his eyes at their little display of curiosity.
"The reason he doesn't wear his ring is because he's afraid he'll lose it or ruin it up during alchemy lessons. It also looks weird if he wears his gloves over it." you explained, the boys nodding their heads.
"You do understand that I'll have to punish you three, correct?" Crewel said, the three boys hanging their heads.
"Oh come on, love. Cut them some slack this time, hm?" you suggested, playfully nudging crewel in his side. The students were shocked to see this side of their professors, finding it a bit weird, but also rather sweet.
"Fine. But don't let me catch you again."
After the trio left, Crewel helped you set up the last of your things. You two were now having one last little intimacy session before classes began again.
"Tell you what? After classes are over, let's go have some tea in your office and just enjoy each other's company?" you hummed, reaching up to tuck a tuft of his white hair behind his ear.
"You always know how to take my stress away." he smiled, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead.
"Of course I do. I know my husband inside and out." 💍

Rumors: pt.1
Vil Schoenheit x Reader
Enemies to Lovers
Word Count: 3.7K
Summary: Vil and you have had a semi one sided rivalry as soon as your time at NRC began. However, the feud soon has to be put aside to stop an anonymous gossip blog attempting to ruin yours and possibly other students’ reputation. Will you and Vil be able to find whoever is behind this? Or will you be a fallen victim to those who call themselves, ‘The Catacombs?’
══════════════════════════════
Ever since your explosive introduction at Night Raven, you always had the tendency to stick out like a sore thumb, captivating everyone with minimal effort. You didn’t belong here amongst wizards, beastmen,merfolk and royals, yet you managed to fit right in.
 I think that was what really pissed him off, especially since he had worked so hard in order to accomplish what you do, impressing others and having eyes on him. However Vil had quickly got over it, his success wasn’t measured by popularity and validation from others, and he shouldn’t worry about a measly nobody that could never hold a candle to him. Instead, the dorm leader focused on keeping peace within his life, enjoying the routine and tranquility.
Which just wasn’t your thing.
You were clumsy, loud and did things your own way with no regard for how others felt. He did give you credit for you having the confidence to be yourself and being extremely empathetic to those who needed it.
Maybe the tipping point was you seeing him in his most vulnerable state, watching him overblot and lose control in envy against one of the people he hated the most. You were there to solve the issue and stop him alongside your friends. And worst of all he heard you point it out to them, believing that no one could hear your whispers.
But he heard every word.
‘He completely lost it over Neige, I’m glad we got it under control,’ he heard you say quietly to Ace and Deuce.
Later on, you decided to offer him a juicebox as he sat on the empty auditorium stage…
Apple flavored.
Which he swears on his unique magic  that you did that on purpose to spite him, a sick joke that only made his distaste for you stronger. It felt like you knew exactly what to do at every moment to make him lose it, like yelling “on accident” when he needs to master a potion formula, saying something crude in the lunch room, the way it seems everyone is obsessed with you.
 And of course it was extremely shocking to Rook when his dorm leader had begun re-explaining his disdain for the new kid at school. Despite laying back on the dark purple bedding that would make anyone relax and the sunset pink lighting from the lamp, Vil was far from calm. He had to recount the latest anger-inducing incident to his friend during their “sleepovers” on a Friday night, being wary of his not yet fully dried mauve nail polish as he talked with his hands.
It was this day that really made him angry, his last straw as some would say. He held his pen as he wrote notes busily into his notebook, heavily invested in order to pass the upcoming exam. It was wonderful, as the class was quiet just as he liked it, allowing him to fully concentrate and absorb the contents of the slide show created by Professor Crewel.
However, it was easy to hear a decrepit wooden door close in the pin-drop silent classroom. As the black and white man’s back was turned to the class, reading out the text of the slides to the class, you, Y/N L/N thought you could be slick enough to be unscathed by Crewel’s wrath
You being late was more set in stone than the heat within the land of the Scalding Sands it seems. Your satchel was barely slung on your shoulder with your weird, round cat creature barely catching up behind, and it was just Vil’s luck that he had to be the poor sap that had the only seat that was available amongst the many wooden tables. Crewel began scolding you as you fumbled in your seat, and whilst onlookers found it hilarious they wouldn’t dare look or let out a snicker at the scene. Your nervousness  made you fumble your belongings in your bag as you attempted to get out your pen and notebook, your arm would touch his.
Making him neglect his usual manners and his side-eye of judgment fell upon you. Of course you didn’t notice as he began to study your features, the look of panic flooding your face. Although, this moment of looking at you ended up being a grave mistake.
“Mr. Schoenheit, if there is a huge problem with L/N being late to the point where your eyes can’t be bothered to take notes on the slides vital for your final then you will be delighted to join us in a discussion after class,” Crewell spat, his anger piercing the air.
His lilac eyes quickly reverted to the projector placed in front of the usual chalkboard. He was embarrassed yet no one could judge him or usually break out in whispers, in fear that they would be included in the punishment. Vil cursed at himself internally but that damn out of season, raggedy bag you carried was enough of a distraction, not counting the person attached to it.
All throughout the lecture, the actor had prayed that Crewell would forget about the mishap completely as there was an hour of class remaining, yet it had appeared that luck was not on his side at all.
He had tried to flee with the crowd of students rushing out the door, hoping no one would pay him any mind. But after he made one sharp movement to get out of his seat-
“Mr. Schoenheit!”
Shit.
Everyone had completely rushed out, with some snickering at the scene, not wanting to be there when the scolding would ensue as entertaining as it may be to see.
“Care to join us in the conversation like I suggested earlier?” Obviously this was not a yes or no question and Vil had no choice in the matter, but nodded out of courtesy.
“Yes, Professor,” Vil replied, coming down the short steps from his seat in the front row, not making even a hint of eye contact with you.
“I understand that the action of lateness pesters you heavily, Mr. Schoenheit. Does it not?”
“...Well, yes it does, Mr. Crewel. However, I promise that another incident like this will never happen again and I will be sure to mind my business more when it comes to fellow students,” Vil said, wanting to spit out some words that could please his teacher into letting him go off the hook.
“Despite being an actor, lying truly isn’t your area of expertise, young pup,” Crewel replied quickly, keeping a hand steady on the pointer he held. He then turned to you, his look softening as despite you not being an astounding student, Crewel favored you very much. Once again your formula of minimal efforts yet good results was absolutely infuriating to him.
“I truly worry about you Y/N, as along with your grades, your attendance along with Grim’s as a default are. I will be having a meeting with Crowley about the extra work he has you doing on campus to allow you to live here as well. However, I will be suggesting a partner assignment that is extra credit for the both of you.”
“I mean no disrespect Mr. Crewel, but I personally am in need of no extra credit whatsoever. I have a 99.5 percent in this class which will obviously be rounded by the grading admin,” Vil explained with a slight laugh in his voice. You rolled your eyes as it was plain to see that the blonde was putting you down. Sure you may not have a 90 something percent, but he didn’t have gnomes gnawing on his ankles this morning that he had to take care of himself with no magic.
But Crewel just looked at him with a concerned look, he was no stranger to shade being thrown and he was not about to tolerate that disrespect. He then explained as he moved to his desk organizing papers , “Oh dear, it looks like you have a bit of incorrect info dear pup. The grading admin stopped rounding this year due to academic dishonesty and such. Also I must add that you and Y/N had gotten the exact same test score, a C- if I remember. And with this being a huge difference from your usual scores, this will drag you down, I fear.”
The blonde’s breath hitched, he would be fucked for this semester and although not royally, that lack of satisfaction would eat him alive. That last exam Vil had little to no time to study due to his role as a villain in “Love Conquers All” on MovieFlix but of course karma stops for no one.
“A way we could solve this though is through our extra credit tutor program. Both of you enroll, Schonheit tutors you and makes sure you get to class on time, and if there is improvement then both of you benefit. And Mr. Schonheit will get the satisfaction he craves for his grades.”
"Does that sound like a plan?" Crewel had waited for a nod from the both of you, but Vil quickly rejected that notion faster than Ruggie could snatch someone’s wallet.
"How do I know that they will honor their promise, Professor? I am a very busy person and I do not wish to waste my time with someone who does not take things seriously,"
But you found his cocky attitude completely unbearable at this point. There was no way you were going to allow him to speak as if you weren’t standing right next to him. “I actually do take things seriously, please don't act as though you know me,” you said blankly, actually looking at Vil while talking for once.
"Excuse me?" Vil replied, he was thrown off completely due to you being completely silent this entire conversation.
"Listen, I don't flunk because I don't want to and I don't show up late because I want to. I'm willing to fix it if Crowley changes the work schedule because it's virtually impossible to be a handyman and student all at once sometimes," you clarified.
`
"I am an honorable person," you held out your hand to Crewel "and I swear I will change. I just need some help."
  Crewel smiled, enjoying the fire in your spirit to stand up for yourself. You then turned to Vil, holding out your hand with a stern expression and as unsettled as he was he took your hand in his gloved one and shook it.
"Good choice my pups, I know you both won't regret this."
But despite having many differences, you both thought the same thing.
‘Yeah right.’
~~~
After the dramatic retelling, the man grabbed the golden, hand held mirror on his night stand to pluck his eyebrows, carrying on his irritated commentary, “So now I have to watch over them like a babysitter. Can you believe this?”
“Ah, Roi du Poison I do feel sorry for this causing you so much stress, but don’t you believe the little Trickster could hold their end of the bargain?” Rook questioned, as afterall, you were a good friend of his and he knew you of all people could keep a promise. It was always in your heart to get things done, regardless of how you feel about it.
“Oh please, I will give it a week, Rook,” he replied, hyper fixated on evening the arches of his brows only for Epel with sleepiness intertwined still in his walk, wondering what the cause of the angry tone of voice from Vil was for.
“What’s going on, you guys?” Epel questioned with a yawn.
But Vil snapped his fingers in recall, completely ignoring the question, “Ah, Epel you just reminded me, remember when we were walking to class and L/N had come up to you, ruffled your hair and such and was very curt with me? What even was that?”
“...”
“What is it?”
“Vil, Y/N is really aware you don’t like them. They actually talked to me about it today,” Epel explained bluntly.
Rook nodded in agreement, facing the vanity mirror as he peeled off his face mask“Oui, they try their best to not look at you even.”
Vil paused in thought, he didn’t think he made his dislike toward you so obvious but I guess it was quite the contrary.
“They don’t go spreadin’ but they told us, they’re cool about it though,” the lavender haired boy quickly added, not wanting to make anything worse for you.
But it didn’t necessarily matter whether or not you both liked one another, what mattered is that you got the job done by solving your faulty grades and attendance. Dislike is just a small hiccup, plus there were plenty of justifiable reasons as to why Vil did not like you, despite being told otherwise from everyone. However, he didn’t face repercussions nor are there heavy consequences for an opinion after all.
BUZZ.
The trio’s phones either vibrated or let out a cheery notification. Even from the door open ajar to the rest of the dorm, you could hear the different sound effects from student’s devices. The odd coincidence made them all look at their phones at the same time to look at what it was.
“This just in for some hot new gossip! I heard from a little birdy that the fairest of them all is viciously bullying the new transfer from a whole new world. But…they’re being partnered up to tutor by Crewel! Looks like all beauty doesn’t come with grace :(
-The Catacombs”
“The hell is this?” Epel said quietly, staring at the anonymous text message. It wasn’t a registered number, instead it was an auto programming since it was only five numbers reading: 88709.
“Oh mon dieu, Roi du poisson,” Rook uttered, unknowing of what to say, going from looking horrified at his phone to his dorm leader for any type of response.
By then the phone notification of Vil’s was ringing out of control, and he could hear Pomefiore members’ reactions to such an appalling message. He was receiving texts non-stop from multiple people asking him all the same questions,
Is it true?
 Why he would put someone down like that?
 Why does he have a problem with Y/N?
But a text from one specific person ate him alive completely.
Jack:
Hey, I don’t know if you saw the message
He quickly typed to the beastman in attempt to defend himself, knowing what they both went through together as children. Vil couldn’t let Jack of all people misinterpret him as this bully to his good friend.
Vil:
I would never bully anyone, nor do I waste my energy on people I don’t like. The stress ages you too much
Are you seriously going to believe this anonymous crap over me Jack?
Jack:
I’ll talk to you later.
It’s not that I don’t believe you, but I have never heard the nicest things about you from them.
Something like this absolutely could not get out to the public, bullying scandals can completely drag down a career as almost everyone goes through that traumatic experience of being casted aside because you’re different. And he would never be a monster like that toward someone, but playing villains in countless movies and tv shows would make it seem completely believable.
It was them who most definitely put out that rumor, and Vil didn’t care whether it was late at night, or if Rook and Epel wanted him to stop.
He was paying a visit.
~~~
With nothing planned and being extremely exhausted, this might’ve been the slowest moving Friday night you’ve ever experienced. And while you haven’t been inclined to care too much about what people say about you, to say you weren’t haunted by your encounter with Vil would be an understatement. Of course you were well aware of his distaste for you, but today it just felt as though it reached a boiling point with the way he was acting. But to take your mind off of it, you freshened up after a long day in class, slipped on something comfortable, put your phone on “Do Not Disturb” and decided to watch some movies on your laptop whilst eating snacks with Grim. After all, you deserved a reward as it would be the last day of relaxation before you had to lock down completely on your education.
Your cat and yourself ended up nodding off to sleep on your couch easily due to the calming environment of your house, as the ghosts decided to take a hint on the mood you were in and were extremely quiet. As both of you were catching up on needed rest, you heard an excessive pounding on your door.  Whoever this was, it felt like they were about to break down your door with how aggressive they were knocking.
Grim nearly attached to the ceiling with fear, making you yelp in fear, naturally frightened to answer the door to see who was behind that hostility. Your eyes bolted to your tall case clock, the time reading 10:32pm, the late time didn’t ease your anxiety whatsoever.
However, after adjusting to your surroundings, you decided that you needed to answer as to whoever was continuing to hammer on your door as it was giving you a headache. Neglecting your human world instincts of not opening doors to strangers, you walked up to your tall mahogany door, only to find your favorite person on the other side.
Vil Schoenheit.
His face was painted with true anger that you’ve only seen during his overblot, “You have some goddamn nerve writing that shit about me.”
You were absolutely frazzled and confused overall, “What even are you talking about? And why are you at my house?”
“Answer your fucking phone and you will find out,” the blonde replied noxiously, watching your every move believing that you were trying to play stupid with him.
As you opened your phone screen, your eyes were lit up by notifications, as everyone and their mother had texted and called you in a matter of minutes.
But one message sat completely unfamiliar coming from that fateful, 5 digit number.
It was horrible and beyond untrue, even though he didn’t like you, you would never stretch it to bullying. Maybe as a joke amongst friends but never to be taken seriously. And as you digested that everyone had gotten this text message and with him being a celebrity this would do heavy damage. And whoever wrote this was out to get you both as many are absolutely in love with Vil, others hate bullying and hearing a glorified superstar being accused of such horrible things would make tabloids run with this story.
This was a complete lose lose situation.
You looked up to see Vil hovering over you, watching you like a hawk, you swore you saw his eye twitch with irritation, “I would never write something like this. And listen I am so sorry-”
“Who else would write something like this? Do you think I’m a damn fool-?” A small hand on his shoulder cut off his angry tirade progressing as he was about to move forward.
“Vil, we are going to get nowhere if you just get angry and lose control, now Y/N do you have any clue as to who would write something like this?” your friend Epel questioned kindly, juxtaposing his dorm leader completely.
“Not exactly, I don’t hate Vil at all like that and I wouldn’t spend my Friday night making up shit like that and you can check all of my technology,” you defended, offering your phone.
His suspicion got the better of him, snatching it out of your phone Vil scrolled through your phone messaging history. And despite going against his suspicion, he didn’t have any concrete proof that you were the culprit.
So until then, he guessed that you were just as wronged as him.
~~~
You all quickly moved to the inside of your house, both to get away from the cold night air, but also to get out of sight as to anyone who could be watching all of you right now. To say that this made all of you, especially you and Vil paranoid wasn’t an over exaggeration. Beginning to theorize with your two friends as to who would write something like this about you two. But unfortunately, every possible “lead” you had was just a dead end, no clear motive, but then again who would need a motive for a stunt like this. It was obvious that attention was what they craved, to drive both of you up the wall and unfortunately they succeeded.
“All they gave is a nickname, but any phone number could be tracked to a specific device used,” You said, as student announcements used 5 digit numbers all of the time, this person had to be skilled in tech.
Vil leached off of your theory, “The catacombs is quite a gothic name afterall, we need to search Ignihyde or Diasomnia.”
“Why them? That seems stereotypical” you asked, feeling argumentative on such a baseless theory.
“Because, Ignihyde is the most technologically advanced dorm, and Diasomnia students seem like the type to enjoy playing tricks like this anyway,” Vil explained as if it were obvious, his sharp gaze never leaving yours as he spoke.
While the flames of his anger had been flamed, it seemed as though his disdain for you was more permanent than a wine stain on a wedding dress. Never fleeting even during this moment of vulnerability from both ends, but you had no energy to begin bickering about it.
“Roi du poisson et mon Trickster, if we want to find whoever is doing this cruel joke, you must put aside your differences and work together,” Rook said, cutting the tension and bringing the platinum blonde back to Earth.
Whilst both of you didn’t want to admit it, the archer was right. If you wanted to figure this out you couldn’t be at each other's throats, fighting one another constantly. Otherwise you would accomplish little to nothing.
And there was no way ‘The Catacombs’ could be hidden forever, and you would make sure to uncover the skeletons within it.
Descendants Harry Hook x Reader: The Golden Glow of Change
Tumblr media
Request: Hi! you could do a Harry hook x princess reader (Rapunzel's daughter) the reader is very shy, and when the barrier is removed, Harry flirt with her (can you not write the length of the hair, because I was thinking of a reader with short hair "in my case" but I don't know if it's okay for who read it) ty!
Reader: Female
Word count: 1739
Average reading time: 6 min 20 sec
Category: Fluff
Warnings: None
The atmosphere was magical as fairy godmother raised her wand, summoning her magic to bring down the barrier separating Auradon and the Isle of the Lost. A golden glow enveloped the barrier, and moments later, it shattered like glass, the shards dissolving into shimmering dust.
----------------------------------------------------------
Cheers and applause filled the air as the people of the Isle began to cross the newly created bridge, stepping cautiously into Auradon. Y/n watched in awe, her heart swelling with a mixture of hope and nervousness. She knew this was a historical moment, but the uncertainty of what lay ahead left her feeling slightly uneasy.
As the celebration of Ben and Mal’s engagement continued, music began to play, and the people of Auradon and The Isle started to dance and mingle. Y/n found herself drifting toward the edge of the crowd, her shy nature making it difficult to fully enjoy the festivities. She was happy for her friends, but the thought of all these new faces made her stomach flutter with anxiety.
Just as she was thinking of finding a quiet spot to catch her breath, she overheard a conversation nearby. She couldn't help but eavesdrop, the voices familiar yet slightly out of context in the celebratory setting.
"So she's definitely taken?" Harry Hook's smooth, accented voice inquired, talking about Mal. There was a certain casual curiosity in his tone, laced with his usual mischief.
Evie nodded, her dark blue hair catching the light as she affirmed, "Definitely."
Doug, standing next to Evie, added with a hint of protectiveness. "So is Evie."
Uma, standing nearby with her signature confident smirk, interjected, "Ah! What's my name?"
Harry responded swiftly, leaning in towards Uma with a teasing smirk. "Uma."
Uma shook her head, her expression playful yet firm. "No."
Suddenly, Y/n found herself caught in Harry's line of sight. She hadn't intended to draw attention to herself, but there she was, standing awkwardly on the side of the gathering. Almost instinctively, she blurted out, "Hi."
Harry's eyes lit up with surprise and curiosity as he looked directly at her. "Hi. Whoa!" he exclaimed, nearly bumping into her in his enthusiasm. His ocean-blue gaze locked onto hers, and a charming smirk spread across his face. The glint in his eye made her heart skip a beat. His dark hair, tousled by the sea breeze, framed a face that was as captivating as it was dangerous.
"H-Harry Hook." she stammered, recognizing him from the stories she'd heard about from Mal and Evie. His reputation preceded him, tales of his daring antics and roguish charm were legendary.
"At your service, princess." he said with a dramatic bow, never taking his eyes off her. His movements were fluid, like a dance he'd perfected over years of navigating treacherous waters. "And who might you be?"
"I'm Y/n Fitzherbert" she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "Daughter of Rapunzel and Eugene."
"Ah, the princess with the glowing hair." Harry said, his grin widening. "Though I must say, it's your eyes that have captured my attention, darling."
Y/n felt her cheeks heat up at his words. "Thank you," she murmured, not quite knowing how to handle his boldness. The people around them seemed to fade, leaving just the two of them in a bubble of their own making.
Harry's gaze softened slightly, sensing her discomfort. "You don't need to be shy around me, lass. I'm harmless... mostly." He winked, extending a hand to her. His fingers were rough from the years spend on the isle, yet his touch was surprisingly gentle. "Care to dance?"
"I-I don't know if I'm very good at dancing." Y/n admitted, looking at his outstretched hand hesitantly. The idea of dancing with a pirate, not just any pirate, Harry Hook, was messing with her head.
"Good thing I am, then." Harry replied, taking her hand gently and leading her to the dance floor. The music surounded them, a lively tune that seemed to mirror the rapid beat of her heart.
As they began to dance, Y/n found herself getting lost in Harry's eyes. They were so blue, like the deepest part of the ocean, and she couldn't help but feel drawn to him. Harry seemed to notice her staring and chuckled softly, the sound like a warm breeze on a summer night.
"Enjoying the view, princess?" he teased, his voice low and playful.
Y/n quickly averted her gaze, feeling her face flush. "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to—"
"No need to apologize, darling." Harry interrupted, twirling her gracefully. "I find your shyness rather charming." His smile was infectious, and she found herself smiling back, the nervous tension in her shoulders easing slightly.
"It's just... all of this is so new to me." Y/n confessed, her voice barely audible over the music. "The idea of all these people from the Isle coming to Auradon. It's wonderful, but also a bit scary."
Harry's expression turned more serious, though his eyes still held their playful spark. "I get that. Change can be scary. But sometimes, it's necessary. Besides, it's not all bad, is it?" He gave her a boyish smile, the kind that promised adventure and mischief.
Y/n couldn't help but laugh softly. "No, I suppose not."
They danced in comfortable silence for a while, the music and laughter of the celebration swirling around them. Harry's hand was warm and steady on hers, and she found herself feeling surprisingly at ease. The world outside their dance seemed to disappear, leaving just the rhythm of the music and the soft murmur of their breaths.
"You know," Harry said after a while, his voice thoughtful, "you're braver than you think, lass."
Y/n looked up at him, surprised. "Me? Brave?"
"Aye," Harry nodded. "It takes a lot of courage to face the unknown, to welcome people you've been taught to fear. Not to mention, standing here with a pirate like me." He grinned, his eyes twinkling with mischief and admiration.
Y/n smiled, feeling a little more confident. "Maybe you're right. But it's still hard sometimes. Especially with the idea of becoming queen one day. I'm not sure I'm cut out for it."
Harry stopped dancing and looked at her seriously, his gaze unwavering. "Listen to me, darling. Being a queen isn't about being perfect or never being afraid. It's about caring for your people, about wanting to make things better. And from what I've seen, you've got plenty of that."
Y/n felt her heart swell at his words. "Thank you, Harry. That means a lot." She realized then that his words were more than just flattery, they were a reassurance, a promise that she wasn't alone in her fears and uncertainties.
He smiled, a softer, more genuine smile this time. "Anytime, princess. Now, how about we enjoy the rest of this celebration, aye?"
She nodded, feeling a newfound sense of courage and hope. As they continued to dance, Y/n realized that maybe, just maybe, she could embrace this new beginning. And with Harry by her side, she knew she wouldn't have to face it alone.
-----
As the days turned into weeks, Harry and Y/n spent more time together. Harry was constantly by her side, guiding her through new experiences and helping her find her voice. He took her on adventures around Auradon, exploring the beauty of the land and its people together. One evening, Harry took Y/n to a secluded spot by a lake, where the water reflected the twilight sky.
"I've got a surprise for you, princess." Harry said, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
"A surprise?" Y/n asked, her curiosity piqued.
Harry led her to a small boat, helping her in before pushing off from the shore. As they glided across the water, Y/n noticed small lanterns floating in the sky, their soft glow reflecting off the surface of the lake.
"Lanterns." Y/n whispered, her eyes wide with wonder. "Just like the ones my mother told me about."
Harry grinned. "I thought you might like them. It's a little piece of your history, right here in Auradon."
Y/n's heart swelled with emotion. "It's beautiful, Harry. Thank you."
As they watched the lanterns, Harry turned to her, his expression serious. "Y/n, I've seen you grow so much since we first met. You've gone from a shy girl to someone who's starting to find her own strength. I'm proud of you, lass."
Y/n felt a warmth spread through her chest at his words. "I couldn't have done it without you, Harry. You've helped me more than you know."
Harry reached out, taking her hand in his. His touch was gentle yet firm, his thumb slowly brushing over her knuckles. "And I'll continue to be here for you, princess. No matter what."
Their eyes met, and Y/n felt her heart flutter. The connection between them was undeniable, and as the lanterns illuminated the night, it felt like they were the only two people in the world.
Harry's hand left hers only to reach up, gently tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. His fingers lingered for a moment, his touch sending shivers down her spine. "You look beautiful," he whispered, his voice soft and filled with sincerity.
Y/n's breath hitched, the intimacy of the moment making her pulse quicken. "Harry," she said, her voice barely audible, "I... I don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything," Harry replied, his gaze never leaving hers. "Just be here with me."
He leaned closer, and Y/n's heart raced in anticipation. The world around them seemed to fade away, leaving only the gentle glow of the lanterns and the warmth of Harry's presence. His lips were inches from hers, and she could feel his breath against her skin.
In that perfect moment, Harry closed the gap, his lips capturing hers in a tender, lingering kiss. Y/n felt a surge of emotion, the kiss speaking volumes of the feelings they shared. It was soft and sweet, yet filled with a passion that took her breath away.
As they pulled back, their foreheads rested against each other, and Y/n smiled, her heart full. "Thank you, Harry," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "For everything."
Harry smiled back, his eyes shining with affection. "Anything for you, princess."
They sat there, wrapped in each other's arms, under the lights of the lanterns, feeling more connected than ever before. In that moment, Y/n knew that with Harry by her side, she could face anything the future held.
A Princess and a Pirate
A/N: This lil thing makes sense but also kinda doesn't? Uh- I was working on this many months apart so I probably forgot some stuff and had to come up with a lil sumn to replace but I think overall, the plot is pretty easy to follow...? IDK, ANYWAYS ENJOY-
Pairing: Harry Hook x Reader Word Count: 5k Warnings: refers to intentional harm? idk if that counts; OH! I usually write Harry with his accent, so that's why his dialogue may look weird, and then highkey a warning for this plot!
Tumblr media
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Ever since the barrier on the Isle had come down, inviting all the VKs to the wonderful kingdom of Auradon, things were changing around here.
You had to admit, it was interesting and fun to see new people getting to experience what Auradon had to offer for the very first time, and meeting all of the Isle kids was pretty enjoyable.
Especially a certain group of pirates.
You had heard about Uma and her crew through your sister, Audrey, who essentially heard about them through all of Mal’s prior ramblings about her, but you never got the chance to see her in person during the Cotillion, since you went off with Chad right before it started to pick your sister up from the Fairy Cottage.
However, now that her and her crewmates were here and settling down in the land, you found yourself running into them around the school grounds, and frankly, you had quite a fascination.
Specifically, a fascination with Harry Hook, Uma’s first mate.
There was something about the son of Captain Hook that was just so…enticing. His eyes, his hair, his voice. The crazy thing is, you’d never exchanged words with him. Like, ever. Yet somehow, what started off as an innocent fascination turned into a full-blown crush.
Unfortunately, though, not everyone was as…open and welcoming to the new VKs as you were.
There were still some royals and nobles (including your grandmother, Queen Leah) who felt that people like them didn’t belong in Auradon. To top it off, you were friends with one of them.
For instance, Jania, who was the daughter of one of the men on Ben’s council, made constant little jabs and comments at the new arrivals, showing you a whole different side of her.
“I give it a couple more weeks before they go and screw something up around here,” she mumbled as the two of you were walking from a class.
“Well, they’re bound to make a mistake, Nia. They just got here,” you replied, confused to where the conversation was coming from all of a sudden. “They’re still learning the ropes.”
Jania rolls her eyes. “Yeah, right. You really think they’ll stay out of trouble?”
“You had trouble when you first started too, remember?”
“At least I actually belonged here.”
You frowned a bit at the insinuation. “That’s not fair.”
“Whatever,” she scoffs. “ I’ll be back. Don’t go anywhere.”
You do just that, seeing as you were right beside your locker, anyways. When she’s out of eyesight, you turn your body, letting out a gasp as you accidentally bump into someone and stumble. If it weren’t for them grasping your arms to steady you, you probably would’ve been on the floor.
“Oh!” you stammer with wide eyes, immediately forming an apology on the tip of your tongue. “I’m so sorry!”
When you actually register who it was you bumped into, your eyes widen some more.
It was Harry.
“Aye, no worries, lass,” he says, amusement dancing in his bright blue eyes. “Yeh got some quick reflexes.”
You laugh a bit, a mixture of both nerves and awkwardness, because how could you possibly fumble that bad? Eyes darting around a bit, you look for something to say, before realizing that there was a hook wrapped around one of your arms instead of his other hand that was holding you up.
“I, uh… I like your hook. It’s very…shiny.”
Harry tilts his head, a grin playing on his lips. “Thank yeh? No one’s ever said that ta me before.”
“Yeah,” you force another weird laugh as he straightens your body back up, giving him little finger guns. “And thank you for catching me.”
Not even a full five seconds later and you cringe. Why am I so lame about this?
Instead of making an even bigger fool outta yourself, you purse your lips and quickly crouch down to pick up the books you dropped. The boy above you keeps his eyes trained on you, gaze flitting to the front of the notebook you now held.
“Yer name is (y/n)?” he asks, examining the personalized decoration of the notebook that included your name.
“Yep,” you nod, rocking back and forth. “You’re Harry, right? Uma’s friend?”
“Tha’s right,” he smiles, giving you a dramatic bow that just fits him for some reason, your brain concludes. “A pleasure ta meet yah.”
Matching his energy, you offer a polite curtsy. “And you as well.”
The two of you are staring at each other with little smiles before the sound of footsteps break the moment. You turn around, finding that Jania had returned, and she was currently eyeing Harry with a hateful gaze.
“Hey, pirate boy,” she sneers, yanking one of your hands into hers. “Go and terrorize someone else, my friend doesn’t wanna talk to you.”
“Wha- hey, no, Nia, don’t-!” your confused protests fall on deaf ears as she continues to drag you away with her, and all you can do is look back and mouth an “I’m sorry” to Harry before you turn a corner.
“I can’t believe you were talking to that guy, (y/n)!” She hisses. “Didn’t we just have a conversation about this?”
“What are you so worked up for?” you murmur, trying to regain your footing because it feels like she’s dragging you away even faster. “You saw him, he’s nice, he has a sweet smile, he wasn’t terrorizing anyone-!”
“Are you even listening to yourself?!” Jania stops abruptly just so she can give you a stare full of disbelief and disapproval. “Those villain kids aren’t out for anything but themselves. I mean, just look at Mal. She’s going to be Queen now. And look what that did to your sister!”
“Don’t bring Audrey into this,” you frowned, getting defensive over the fact that she was speaking your sister’s name in a conversation she didn’t even need to be a part of. “And please stop talking like that. You sound like my grandma.”
“Well, maybe you should start listening to her for once,” she mutters under her breath. “Just stay away from them, alright?”
That didn’t happen.
Ever since that day, it was like the two of you kept on running into each other. Not that you were complaining. In fact, it was further fueling your attraction towards Harry. Whenever the two of you saw each other, you’d stop to say hi, maybe even have a brief conversation. And of course, you’d always hear Jania’s mouth about it, but it’s not like she could control your actions.
One day, sometime during lunch, Harry spotted you sitting alone at a table, and decided to make his way over to you.
“All by yerself?” He asks, grabbing your attention.
“No,” you told him with a smile, sitting down your phone and sitting upright. “I’m waiting on someone. But you can sit till she gets here. If you wanna.”
He gladly accepts the offer, taking a seat next to you.
Let me guess, th’ one tha’ hates my guts?”
Even though the look on his face shows that he’s only joking, you can’t help but feel sheepish.
“Right,” you sigh. “I’m really sorry about that. She’s just a little…hard to soften up.”
“Are yeh bein’ nice about it?” he smirks.
“…‘Lil bit.” The two of you share a laugh for a few seconds. “But to answer your question, no. I’m waiting for my sister.”
His eyebrows lift slightly. “Yeh have a sister?”
“Yeah,” you nod. “Audrey.” The realization clicks in Harry’s mind.
“Aw, yer a Beauty kid~” he coos, resting his chin in the palm of one of his hands. “I ‘ave sisters too, actually.”
“Really?”
And so from there, he begins to delve into random tales with him and his sisters, even describing them for you so that you’ll know who they are if they ever pass by you around school. The stories have you so interested that you forget that your sister was supposed to be there until she actually showed up with both your lunches.
She takes the spot next to you after Harry leaves you alone with her, waiting for a little while before speaking.
“You like him, don’t you?”
The topic almost makes you choke on your food.
“Hm?”
“You. Like. Him,” she emphasizes, flicking you in the shoulder.
“Where’d you get that idea?” You scoff.
“Are you serious? As soon as I walked over here, you were just staring at him like-” she copies your attentive gaze, batting her lashes for dramatic effect.
Rolling your eyes, you deny her claim, “ I didn’t even do all that.”
“But you do like him, right? You never said no.”
“I never said yes, either,” you retort.
“You totally do, though,” she giggles. “I'm your sister. You can’t lie to me. I know these things.”
With a groan, you shake your head. “Fine. A little bit, yes.”
“A little?”
“That’s all you’re getting,” you tell her, pushing her back with a laugh when she leans closer to you. “Get outta my face, Audrey!”
=
Getting closer to Harry was fun.
You found yourself constantly seeking him out, whether in school or in certain social settings, holding longer conversations with and getting to hang around both groups of friends with him, both yours and his.
A favorite memory of yours in particular was when he sought you out after the sunset upon Auradon, so that you could join him in stargazing.
“Yeh know, I’ve never actually really seen the stars before,” he comments as he sits beside you on the soft grass.
“Really?” You said with surprise, to which he nodded.
“It was a big dark cloud above the sky. Not much ta see like tha’.”
“…Huh. And now that you can see them? What do you think of them?”
He takes a moment to think before responding. “They’re…a lot brighter from ‘ere. Ye can even see the light reflecting off the lake.”
“Uh-huh,” you nodded, noting how the sparkling dots of light twinkle in the water of the lake. You lean over a bit, getting a closer look when, all of a sudden, you feel water splash your side, making eye contact with a grinning Harry.
“Hey!” Splashing him back, you watch him practically run away from the water, giggling along with you as a back and forth water war was waged.
Once the two of you settled down, you started a game of creating your own constellations in the night sky, occasionally arguing about what they did and didn’t look like. As much as you would’ve liked to stay like that all night, the time of student curfew was approaching.
“Thanks for this,” you said, smiling at him. “I had a lot of fun.”
“Yeh don’ have ta thank me,” he replies, draping your sweater over your shoulders since it was getting cooler out. “I…like yer company.”
“…I like your company, too.”
You’re gazing into his eyes, and he into yours. You can feel the way you both lean in, ever so closer to each other, until your faces are remotely close. Just when you feel the urge to make a move and go for it, you hear the clock chime, signaling that it was time to go.
Pulling away slowly, you let out a soft exhale before smiling again, clutching the front of your sweater.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” you murmurs. “Night, Harry.”
“…G’night, darlin’,” he bids before you go your separate ways.
The entire way back to your dorm, you’re grinning so hard your cheeks start to hurt. Even your sister and friend notice as they peep your giddy demeanor when you walk in.
“Aahhhh, someone’s date went well~” Audrey squealed, clapping her hands. Jania was sitting beside her, dead silent but attentive.
“It wasn’t a date, Audrey,” you chuckled, putting away your things.
“That’s your opinion, anyways! Was it nice? Did you have fun? Did you two kiss?”
”Slow your roll! Yes, it was nice. Yes, I had fun. And we…almost kissed?”
You can see the way her eyes light up, clearly invested in your first romantic experience. Jania, on the other hand, finally decides to say something.
“Wait, wait, so this little thing of yours is getting serious?”
“Uh…yes?” You say, unsure if that was even the right answer. Probably not. “No? Ugh, I dunno…he’s so sweet, you guys, and I really, really like him, but maybe I’m reading into this too much-?”
“Better enjoy it while it lasts,” she mutters, getting up to go and lay in her own bed.
Her words catch you off guard. “Huh? What does that mean?”
“Nothing at all. Good night.”
Both you and Audrey look at each other, not understanding what just happened, but shrug it off as she pats the spot across from her so that you can tell her everything that’s occurred during your time with Harry.
The following morning, when you wake up, the first thing you notice is that it was only your sister in there with you, who was curling her hair in the vanity mirror.
“…Where’s Nia?” You inquire, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes.
She looks your way, then towards Jania’s bed.
“I have no idea,” she says thoughtfully. “She just said that she was getting an early start on the day.”
You scrunch your face up. “That doesn’t sound like her at all, but hey, what do I know?” Yawning, you plop back down, trying to see if you could squeeze in another 15 minutes of sleep.
=
During your first passing period, you’d taken Harry along with you to go see Ben in his office. Neither of you had addressed nor even slightly mentioned what happened last night, just going on as if it never happened. Which was good, because you didn’t think you could handle the awkwardness of a “hey, did we almost kiss?” conversation.
You knock on the door, waiting for the green light before walking inside.
“Hey, Ben,” you greet, placing a pamphlet down on his desk. “Someone dropped this off for you today.”
“Oh, thank you,” he says, glancing up at you and doing a double take when he sees who’s accompanying you. “Did, uh, did you need something too, Harry?”
He shrugs and shoves his hands in his pockets. “I’m jus’ here f’her.”
Your eyes drift over to a tray sitting on one of the spare tables.
“Ooo, candied apples?”
“Yeah, someone dropped them off earlier,” he responds. “I didn’t get a chance to see who it was.”
“Mm.” You were too distracted with the one you’d already picked up.
“Hey! How do you always get into my stuff before I can?”
“You weren’t even gonna eat these.”
”Maybe I was,” he retorted, and although you didn’t believe that because he almost never ate the treats that people would drop off for him (not because he didn’t like them, there would literally just be so many), you decided to play along anyways.
“Fine, fine,” you sighed, looking down at the tray to examine all of them before picking one up from the middle, passing it to them. “Here, this one’s more red than the others. I think it’s more candy coating on it or something.”
Ben laughs before tapping his apple against yours and taking a large bite out of it.
“Harry, d’you want one?” You pick up another apple and offer it to him, but he declines your offer.
“I don’t like those things,” he tells you.
“Who doesn’t like candied apples?” Ben asks, happily chowing down on his. “They’re so good.”
“No, the best kind are the ones they dip in caramel and peanuts,” you add, taking a small bite out of your own. “You have to try one of those.”
“Oh, yeah, those-” Out of the blue, Ben just stops talking. You focus your eyes back on him, brows furrowed in confusion.
“…What? What happened?” He shakes his head, trying to readjust himself.
“Uh, nothing- sorry,” he says, but his words and movements are getting slower and slower. “I…don’t know what happened, I just…”
”Ben…?” You say, eyes soon widening in horror when his roll back and flutter shut, causing him to fall out of his chair.
“Ben!!” Rushing over, you catch him just before his head hits the ground, patting his cheek to get him to regain consciousness. “Ben!!”
Harry knelt down at your side, mouth agape because he’s just as confused as you as to what happened to the young king just that fast, but neither of you know what to do.
“Somebody help!!”
=
“And you’re sure that’s all that happened?”
“Yeah!” you told Belle, hands clasped together as you saw your friend lying unconscious. “H-he just ate the apple and then passed out.”
When help finally came, Fairy Godmother was called, along with Ben’s parents, and close friends who were alerted like Audrey and Jania. Mal and her friends were in the middle of something when she was called, so she was rushing to get here now.
Harry had stuck by your side the entire time, rubbing your shoulder comfortingly as you were now starting to panic.
“May I see the apple?” Fairy Godmother asks. “Did you bring it?”
“Yeah.” You reach into your bag, pulling out the apple by the stick it was secured upon, unraveling it from the napkin and passing it to her.
She examines it thoroughly, turning it in all directions to search for anything out of the ordinary. “All the apples looked like this?”
“...For the most part,” you murmur. “That one was a little darker than the others. It’s why I picked it out. I figured maybe it had more candy coating on it than the others.”
Pursing her lips, she gives you a solemn look.
“This apple was enchanted. It’s laced with a sleeping curse.”
Your eyes widen, the feeling of your stomach dropping almost making you stagger.
“Oh, god,” you whispered, covering your mouth with your hands. “I fed Ben a poison apple, oh my god…”
“Easy, lass,” Harry said softly, gripping your shoulders. “It wasn’t yer fault.”
“Yeah, (y/n), he’s right,” your sister agrees. “You couldn’t have known. Your intentions were good when you gave it to him.”
“Were they?” Jania’s words have you looking over at her. “You deliberately picked out that apple, (y/n). Are you sure you didn’t have a trick up your sleeve?”
“Wha… Jania, what are you talking about? I would never do something like that to Ben! He’s like a brother to me!”
“Maybe then,” she argues. “But things can change after you start spending all your time with Auradon’s newest group of troublemakers.”
You  furrow your brows just a bit, because you begin to see exactly where this is going.
“Nia, they had nothing to do with this,” you state firmly, pointing to Harry, who seemed a little uncomfortable with the accusation. “He had nothing to do with this! Will you get that out of your head?”
“How do you expect me to?! He’s the only one out of the three of you that didn’t eat an apple!”
“Because he doesn’t like them! If I gave you something you didn’t like and you told me you didn’t wanna eat it, would that make you suspicious?”
“This is different!” Jania insists, standing up from her chair. “You know villain kids have a track record with poison apples. He’s the perfect suspect!”
“When ‘ave yeh ever seen me touch an apple?” Harry asks, perplexed by the words coming out of her mouth.
“It doesn’t matter! You know it’s true!”
“Okay,” you say frustratedly. “Let’s say maybe that is true. Why would Harry try poisoning Ben?”
“I don’t know! A power trick? God, Ben wasn’t even supposed to get to the stupid apple!”
“Oh, really? Why not?”
“Because you were supposed to eat it!!”
The outburst puts everyone’s actions on pause, struggling to grip onto what had just been said.
When sense reforms in your mind, all you can work out is a small, “…Excuse me?”
Even now, Jania looks shocked by what’s come out of her mouth, covering it promptly as her eyes dart between each one in the room.
“What did you just say?”
“I- nothing- I didn’t mean-” she stammers, shaking her head as she takes a small step back. ”I didn’t mean for that to come out.”
“No,” your sister stands as well, her suspicions beginning to rise as yours did. “But you sure meant for this to happen. And to my sister?”
“Aud, listen- I was only trying to help-”
It’s obvious that the young girl is becoming anxious, fumbling to try and find a proper response.
“It all makes sense,” you mumbled, mulling over her strange behavior in the past few days. She’d let go of your association with Harry for the most part, but you hadn’t thought anything of it, assuming she’d finally had enough of berating you over it.
But now things have become clearer.
The oddly vagueness of her words last night, when she said “enjoy it while it lasts,” the unusual morning disappearance, and the fact that she was more concerned with pinning the blame on Harry than she was about Ben’s unexpected state.
Because it wasn’t unexpected. She had planned this all along.
“You knew that I would try to get to them first,” you continued on as you looked at the one you thought was your friend. “And that I would’ve probably picked that exact apple. You wanted me to eat it so that you could find a way to make it seem like Harry was the one who did it. Didn’t you?”
Her eyes widened, astounded that you had figured out every inch of her plan.
You feel Harry’s grip tighten slightly on your shoulders, and when you glanced up, he seemed pretty agitated at the revelation.
“...Yeh tried ta poison her? Just ta set me up?”
“Yeah, okay!” Jania finally confesses. “It may seem bad to you, but-”
Audrey’s about had enough of it already. “Don’t start trying to make excuses! You tried to put my sister’s life in danger, and all for what? Because you have some unspoken grudge against someone she’s in love with?”
Woah. Pause.
“I- Audrey,” you whisper, trying to get her to retract that statement in an instant. However, she’s too concerned with getting on Jania’s case, so you can only pray and hope everyone else was also too distracted to hear what was just said.
Especially Harry.
“I made a cure!” Jania tries to defend herself. “She wouldn’t have been asleep forever, she would have woken up eventually-”
“Eventually?!”
“Oh, god,” you hold a hand to your mouth for a second, unable to find anything that could help stop the argument before it escalates any further.
Even though, truthfully, you didn’t want to. Jania got herself into this mess. She deserves more than being yelled at, another person’s life was at stake here.
“Don’t you know that cures to sleeping curses have never actually worked?” Your sister continues. “Ever! Your silly little ‘cure’ would’ve failed, and then what? Then my sister would have been cursed for who knows how long!”
“No! No, it wouldn’t- why are you so mad? I- I was only trying to help!”
At that point, you step forward, too. “Help? I never needed help, Jania. You keep saying how- how the villain kids shouldn’t be trusted, but you were willing to risk my life and ruin someone else’s to prove a point. And rather than worrying about if Ben was actually gonna be okay, you keep overlooking it like it doesn’t even matter!”
You look at the adults in the room, knowing they would have much to say as well. Ben’s father notices your eyes, clearing his throat.
“There will be consequences,” he says. “This was both an act of injustice and carelessness. It will be handled accordingly.”
Jania keeps her head hung low, knowing there was nothing she could do or say to shy away from the consequences of her actions.
“As for you, Harry, we’re terribly sorry about this incident. If there’s anything we can do to make up for it, please let us know.”
The boy nods, and right as the statement is made, Mal comes rushing through the doors, followed by all her friends.
=
Two weeks have passed since then, and everything has been cleared up.
Jania had been suspended for 4 weeks, a week for Ben’s endangerment, a week for your intended endangerment, a week for attempting to frame someone, and a week for the unpermitted use of dangerous magic.
You and Audrey got to remove her as a dorm mate, and although the offer was made to request a new one, you both found it pretty nice to have the extra space all to yourselves one Jania’s bed was out of there.
Ben was doing fine as well, Mal had woken him up and broken the sleeping curse like everyone expected, and he even said that the whole thing felt like a really great nap, so he wasn’t too upset.
As an apology for all that had happened, you had invited Harry out for ice cream. You hadn’t really gotten a chance to say sorry for him almost being kicked out of Auradon just for hanging around you, and even though it technically wasn’t your fault, you felt the need to say it anyway.
So while the two of you sat out on a bench in the castle courtyard, you laid the spoon down in your half eaten cup of ice cream, shifting awkwardly.
“So, I, um…” you begin, pursing your lips as you try to form a complete sentence. “I don’t think I ever got the chance to apologize for…everything that happened. I knew Jania was making it out to be a big deal, but…I didn’t think she would take it that far.”
He turns to you with a soft smile, shaking his head.
“Yeh know there’s no need for an apology, right?”
Blinking, you let out a small huff of breath, staring back down at the delicacy. “Well, obviously not if I’m doing it.”
Harry giggles, nudging your arm with his. “It wasn’t yer fault, I’m not mad. I like a bit o’ drama every now an’ then.”
“Only you,” you retort, unable to hold back the smile that pulls at your lips.
But you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Right as you begin to settle down from your internal conflict, something hits you like a brick.
Your sister may or may have not revealed that you were starting to fall in love. With him.
What should you do? Should you say something? Maybe bury it in a box and hope it never sees the light of day?
“Yeh know, it’s cute how yeh go from super talkative ta super quiet,” he remarks, interrupting your train of thought.
“Sorry,” you say. “...We’re still friends, right?”
The look of confusion on his face shows that that was not the response he was expecting.
“...Aye? Why wouldn’t we be?”
“Good.” Your head bobs along with your words. “Great. Yeah, no, I just… y’know, just clarifying.”
Oh no, you were being super awkward again, like how you were when the two of you first met.
Although this time, you might actually go dig a hole for yourself if you hit him with finger guns again.
“This isn’t clarity enough?”
Groaning inwardly, you shove the spoon in your mouth. “No, that’s not how I meant it, just…give me a second to think.”
You can tell he wants to laugh again, but he tries not to for you, so you can spit all of this out.
Finally, it spills, “I was just…hoping what my sister said the other day didn’t make things…weird?”
Honey, you’re making it weird!
He takes a moment to think back on what it was exactly that Audrey had said, and every second of silence makes you want to be dragged in front of a road.
“…Ohhh,” he says, forcing down a grin. “Yeh mean when she said ye were in love with someone? An’ tha’ someone might possibly be me?”
It’s an obvious tease. He knew exactly what your sister said, he’s been quoting it word for word in his head for the past two weeks.
You want to run away from this situation and never look this guy in the eyes again, no muscle in your body wants to actually move.
“…Well, since we’re tellin’ secrets…” he sits down his ice cream, reaching a hand over to focus your eyes back on him before holding your face in his cool palms. “Guess wha’?”
Clearing your throat to settle the leaping in your chest, you bite, “…What?”
Harry’s eyes sparkle, which should’ve been your first indication that he was up to something. Still, you will yourself not to move, even as he leans ever so closer to your face, though not completely as he’s trying to gauge your reaction.
With no sign of rejection, he finally closes the gap between you, leaving you stunned for a moment as your lips are captured in a soft kiss. You soon melt into the feeling, hands abandoning the cup of ice cream on your lap in favor of grasping the front of his jacket.
It feels just as magical as you’d imagined it when you thought it would happen all those nights ago. Although, you’re glad it’s longer to become reality. It makes the moment feel even more special, more meaningful.
When the two of you pull away, his forehead rests against yours, a blissful silence wrapping around the atmosphere like a warm blanket, the warmth spreading through your chest.
You can’t help but smile, looking up with eyes that shine just as bright as his do, unable to stop the giggling that bubbles in your throat, but soon, he’s laughing along with you.
The two of you were an usual pair, but you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Just a princess and her pirate.
————
Killian had found himself in wonderland once again, He was walking down a yellow path that looked like it was just the same trees over and over again. Killian started to get annoyed with the never-ending forest.
“This path will go forever” a voice spoke from the branches above. “Hm- Who is there?” Killian stopped in his tracks looking around. “Cheshire cat~ Y/n l/n” she swung down, hanging upside down from a tree branch. “And your captain hook. Welcome back.” She grins. “To wonderland~”
“Oh? My name is known?” Killian smirks. “Known? Nothing is known here. Here known is nothing” She swings up to lie on the branch giving Killian a better view of herself. She had long magenta and pink hair, Her eyes were teal with cat-like pupils. Her grin turns into a creepy smile. “Are you lost, captain?”
Killian squinted his eyes looking at her, “Are you sure you're a cat love?” She blinks, losing her creepy smile, stunned for a second. “Your right, Or is it your wrong? I am the Cheshire cat” She hesitates before grinning and swinging back, Hanging upside down now with cat ears and a tail that matches her hair. Killian blinks and rubs his face, “How-” “How who?” She giggles swaying her tail. “You are odd, Love” He puts his hook under her chin. “And pretty”
She grins, “Is it true curiosity killed the cat?” He asks. “Curiosity? Curiosity is dangerous here, There's too many scary paths” she swings so she's sitting on the branch. “Where would the scary paths be?” He asked, Curiously. “Over there” She points in the direction opposite of her using her tail. “Over where?” He looks around, “over what?” She tilts her head. “The scary path” He says confused but assumed oddly. “There's many scary paths here.” She grins creeply again. “Your mad love” He chuckles softly looking up at her. “I’m mad, You're mad. We’re all mad here Captain.” “I’m not mad, love.” He grabs her ankle. “Of course you are Captain, Otherwise you wouldn’t be here.”
Killian bites his lip and scuffs, “you're an odd cat y/n.” She smiles and nods, “Your learning already, Now remember follow the yellow road” She grins before disappearing into ribbons leaving her grin there for a few moments before disappearing into sparkly dust. Killian backs up looking around, “whoa-“ He smirks and continues down the yellow path, that ended up leading to more yellow paths…
jealousy, jealousy. — b.f
a/n: a one shot. what better than a one shot!
who? ben florian x fem!reader
it had to stop. someone had to do something to stop this. this girl whose name you didn’t even know had been chatting up ben for a little over 10 minutes now. five minutes too much, in your opinion.
you could see everything play out from the lockers, where you were standing. her touching his arm and laughing extra hard at anything he said. she really couldn’t have made it more obvious. and you guessed that ben, being the sweetheart that he is, didn’t want to hurt her feelings.
you knew full well that he made sure she knew that he had a girlfriend and still, she acted like the boundary was nonexistant. you just had to shut it down.
you had been clearing your throat so much in the last five minutes that lonnie, looking for her stuff in her locker next to yours, became increasingly worried about your health. if it wasn’t for her asking if you were okay, you wouldn’t have pushed yourself off of your locker and went to deal with the problem yourself.
you tried to control your breathing on your way over to them. okay y/n, you can't freak out in front of them. don’t freak out. don’t freak out. don’t-
"hi baby" you came up behind ben with the softest tone and your arm snaking its way around his waist. you did not acknowledge her once of course.
"y/n!" ben looked down at you and you could feel her eyes on you as his arm came around your shoulders. ben’s hand waved towards the girl as to introduce her. "i don’t think you two have met yet. y/n, this is nadia. nadia, this is y/n. my girlfriend."
you reluctantly took your eyes off of his face and acknowledged her with raised eyebrows. as if you hadn’t been staring at her for the past 10 minutes or so.
"ohhh, so she is the girlfriend. don’t worry, i’ve heard only great things about you. it’s really nice to finally meet you." she said with a fakeness that was typically communicated between auradon princesses. you succeded in letting a small smile seep through the tight lines that your lips formed.
"nadia is replacing jane as head of the party planning commitee while she’s away." ben clarified.
"right, well it’s nice to meet you too." before your eye started to twitch, you brought your eyes back to your boyfriend’s face.
"i came to take you up on your offer of helping me with maths." you murmured close to ben’s ear and with a snarky smile. "we can go to my dorm if you want? evie won’t be there for another two hours." ben cleared his throat and his ears went a pink-ish color. you were having trouble keeping your smirk to yourself.
"right uhh, bella, can we talk later?" he spat out with a breathless voice.
"absolutely. yeah, we’ll talk later." you didn’t even let her mutter out something about how nice it was seeing you since you turned around without paying her another thought.
Tumblr media
you were sitting on the edge of ben’s bed looking at him getting ready. he was looking at himself in the large body mirror and as he reached for his tie you stood up.
"i can tie it for you if you want.." you said as you stood right behind him while looking at him in the mirror. ben smiled at you through the mirror.
"yeah..yeah that would be nice. thanks. my hands are a bit shaky right now." he let out a nervous chuckle and you turned so you’d face him.
"i know i noticed. if it’s because of that council meeting, i’m telling you, you have nothing to worry about. they won’t have a choice but to accept your proposition. it’s a well rounded project. " you tried to ease his stress as best as you could.
"you’re right." he sighed softly. "i’m just worried they’ll think my ideas are too unrealistic, you know. i want to prove that i can handle it." his shoulders relaxed a bit, like a weight physically got lifted off of him.
you finished tying his tie and looked up at him through your eyelashes only to find him looking right back down at you. your hands went to his shoulders and his own came on top of them.
"i know you’re going to do great because your ideas are great. you are great, ben. they’ll see it sooner than later." you nodded positively, making sure he understood that you meant every word.
a small smile played on ben’s lips as his hand came to hold your chin and brought your lips closer to his. your lips were about to touch when you heard a knock on the door.
you sighed. "if that’s doug again, i’m kicking his butt all the way back to charmington." ben snorted as he went to open the door.
"ben, hi! i was hoping to find you here." you secretly hoped it wasn’t who you thought it was. her voice irritated you greatly. so cheerful and for what, it was 10 am on a thursday.
"nadia…what’s up?" there was your confirmation. that girl wouldn’t back out in front of anything, it seemed. you crossed your arms and scoffed to yourself while shaking your head. then you stepped to the side so you could see her better.
"we actually need your input on some of the activities for the spring festival back at the commitee, and i thought i’d come here to get you." ben opened his mouth to answer but no words came out. he looked back at you and nadia acknowledged you.
"y/n! i didn’t see you there!" you only waved your hand with a polite smile. ben returned to nadia.
"sure, let me just get my keys." you were annoyed. you knew that this was a temporary arrangement so you didn’t want to get too upset, but it still bugged you.
ben came to you and paused with his hand on your back, and a look in his eyes looking for confirmation that you were okay. you looked back at him and offered him a small smile. his eyes lowered to your lips as he squeezed your arm and started to walk away before you grabbed him back by the arm.
"ben wait, you forgot something."
with that, you held the back of his head with your hands and kissed him deeply. you really wished you had kept at least one eye open to see nadia’s reaction.
"for good luck." you managed to get out with a breathy voice. he cleared his throat and you waved both of them goodbye as they left.
you shouldn’t have to worry about her anymore.
・。Tasty Confessions 🥮
You've ordered: a vanilla gingerbread tart! enjoy!
Tumblr media
"This is falling, falling in love"
Leona Kingscholar x reader | word count: 1,418 words
Summary: holiday confession gone wrong...and right? 🥮
Warnings: none!
Note: i don't celebrate christmas, so in the fic, i didn't specify the holiday (used "holiday season" instead)
"Trey, a little help here?" you yelled, attempting to carry two trays of tart shells out of the oven.
"Ah, coming! You've gotta be careful, Y/n." the green haired boy reminded you, rushing over and taking one of the trays.
The cozy holiday season had settled upon Night Raven College rather nicely. Decorations were put up and plans for celebration were in full swing. And you intended to make this one extra special.
You'd decided to bake tarts for your friends in the various dorms and even a few for the NRC staff. As you filled the shells with various creams and custards, Trey helped you out, offering up his baking expertise when you were caught in the weeds about how to do this.
As you now cut up various fruits and other sweets for decoration, the door to the kitchen opened and in walked Cater, holding Grim in his arms.
"I couldn't get him to stop. He somehow smelled your tarts from down the hall." Cater said, seeming like he'd put in a lot of effort in trying to stop the cat-like creature.
"Hey, you better save some for me, henchman!" Grim exclaimed, hopping out of Cater's arms and onto the counter.
"Don't worry Grim. After i'm done, I'll make you all the tuna tarts you want." you smiled, scratching under his chin.
"Hey Y/n, why are these tarts different than all the others?" Cater questioned, pointing to a small batch of tarts that were obviously different from the others.
Your cheeks colored a bit upon being questioned, your hand almost dropping the spoon you held.
"Those are...for Leona." you admitted, cater letting out an excited "Ooh!"
It was no secret that you had a crush on Leona. The lion beastman had caught your attention the first day you'd arrived. You used to think he was lazy and rude, but after being around him for a while, your outlook changed. And so did your feelings.
"I plan on writing a note to him in which i confess my feelings and...putting it in his tart bag..." you murmured, your cheeks warming up in embarrassment.
"Confessing to him with tarts? how cute." Trey quipped, placing a tray of finished tarts into the fridge to chill.
"Yeah, I just hope it goes well..."
"Oh trust me, I'm sure he likes you too. Leona isn't keen on putting up with people just like that." Cater said, swiping a bit of cream onto his finger and tasting it.
"Cater!" you scolded, rushing to grab grim before he dunked his whole head in the bowl.
"Alright, alright! enough fun. I've gotta get back to baking." you playfully grumbled, shooing them out.
A day had passed since you cooked up your delicious sweet treats. Each person had 5 tarts, all in a clear bag with a colored ribbon on top. You went around to each dorm handing out the tasty tarts and to your surprise, everyone loved them!
You finally stopped in front of your final destination: the Savanaclaw dorms. You clutched the basket in your hands, glancing down at it to do one last check. One for Ruggie, one for Jack, and obviously one for....?! You then realized you were short one bag...and it was the most important bag of all. Just where was Leona's bag??
In haste, you quickly scrambled back over to Heartslabyul, ignoring a nagging Riddle as you barged into the kitchen. You looked everywhere, every nook and cranny. Absolutely nothing.
You grabbed your phone, calling trey.
"Hey Trey. Have you seen the tarts I made for...you know who?" you asked, praying that he knew something.
"No, sorry Y/n. the last I saw of them was when I left last night, and they were still in your basket. did something happen?" he asked, seeming concerned.
"Uh, you know what? Don't worry about it. Thanks Trey." you said before hanging up.
It wasn't like the tarts had grown legs and ran away! You didn't have time for this. And you definitely didn't have the time to make new tarts. You asked across the dorms (except Savanaclaw) if they'd seen the tarts, to which everyone responded no. What were you going to do?
As you paced around the hallway, someone called out your name. Turning, you were met by Ruggie, a member of Savanaclaw. Upon seeing your panic, Ruggie made his way over to you, tail flicking.
"Y/n, what's wrong? You look more stressed than Leona when he can't get his favorite sandwich." he asked.
You let out a sigh of defeat, leaning against the wall. "I made tarts for everyone to celebrate the holidays. I also made...special tarts for Leona. I was going to tell him how I feel today, but...I can't find his damn tarts!" you groaned.
"Well, what did they look like?" Ruggie asked.
"They were in a clear bag like everyone else's. But his had a yellow and black ribbon on it, whereas the ones for you and jack were just yellow." you could already see the guilt on Ruggie's face.
"Spit it out."
"I may or may not have found said package of tarts...and given them to Leona-" Ruggie mumbled, visibly sweat-dropping.
Your mouth fell open in horror as you realized the situation you were in. Leona...had already gotten your tarts!
"Ruggie, where is Leona right now?" you asked urgently, shoving the basket into his arms.
"Oof! Uhhh...I think he's in the botanical garden. that's where I gave them to him."
You made a mad dash down the hall, bursting into the garden. Your eyes frantically looked around, spotting a tail in the corner of your eye.
When you got closer, your stomach dropped as you saw Leona, already breaking into the sweet treats.
"Need something, herbivore?" the beastman asked, his tail flicking.
You swallowed, taking a breath before walking over and snatching up the note.
"You didn't read this, right?" you asked, Leona smirking as he licked cream off of the corner of his lips.
"And what if i did?" he challenged, your heart dropping.
"H-how much did you-?" "All of it."
The note fell from your hands, your heart aching as you looked Leona in the eyes. Damn...this was embarrassing.
As you tried to keep yourself from panicking, you stepped closer to him, kneeling down to his level. "So...how do you feel about what you read?"
Leona let out a soft "Hm", as if he were thinking of the perfect response. "Come a little closer." he said.
You shuffled a bit closer to him, mumbling a soft "Yeah?" as you did. The lion man just smirked, beckoning you closer.
"Come on herbivore, get closer. Just a little. And close your eyes."
You moved closer till you were practically touching noses with Leona, your eyes fluttering shut. You felt like your heart would leap out of your chest at any given moment.
thwack! You pulled back, your eyes opening in surprise. Leona had just flicked you in the forehead!
"What the hell, leona?" you exclaimed, your hand flying up to caress the spot he'd flicked.
"You really are dense." "What-"
Leona leaned in a bit closer this time, his breath tickling your cheek. "You think I ate your tarts out of pity? If I didn't want 'em, I could've easily given 'em away. Seems I've taken...a liking to you, herbivore."
You froze right there, on the spot. you couldn't believe what you were hearing. THE Leona Kingscholar just confessed to YOU. You didn't have time to think before leona captured your chin between his thumb and index finger, his emerald green eyes locking with yours.
"Hm, you still don't seem very convinced." Before you could even think...Leona's lips were on yours.
The kiss was soft and warm and made you feel all fuzzy inside. You slowly eased into it, your hands coming up to cup his face as a warmth flowed through your body.
When it was over, you nodded your head, a slight flush on your cheeks. "Yeah...I get it now..."
Leona let out an amused chuckle, pulling you down to lay with him, a soft yelp leaving you.
"Don't you usually sleep alone?" you mumbled, your face warming up.
"You owe me. All your tarts made me sleepy. Your punishment is to lay with me and not move a muscle."
You laughed a little, reaching up to tuck a bit of hair behind his ear. "Should be easy enough."
And just like that, your holiday was one to remember.🥮
Percy Jackson x fem reader
chapter thirty-two I see trouble on the way.
Tumblr media
There wasn’t an exact word to describe the way Chiron looked at you, that summer. Months and years down the line, you still couldn’t place it. That weary look, like watching something play out that you can’t really put a stop to. Of course, then you couldn’t have known. Not amongst friends, at your cabin table.
“Barbecue chicken wings!”
The food sprouted on the plate, a magic you’d never grown used to seeing. Newcomer Clarissa, a girl with extravagant blue hair, blinked, jaw-dropped.
“Twenty barbecue chicken wings!”
“Greedy-guts,” Annabeth chided beside you, munching on a side of lettuce.
You shoved three wings in your mouth at once, side-eying her. “You’re eating rabbit food.”
Your eyes lifted to the head table, where Chiron talked with an expressionless face to the new guy beside him, in an orange colour of the fruit itself. “I don’t like him.”
“You haven’t even talked to him,” Annabeth stabbed her fries with a fork.
“I don’t have to. Something’s off.”
Your sister groaned at your side, reaching for one of your chicken wings. Your mouth gaped, a sound of protest that she ignored. “Don’t start with ‘the vibes are off’ again.”
“Vibes are very important!” You rebutted.
He happened to be a man in at least his early to mid-fifties, short as anything and skinny, too, with a mess of dark-grey stubble around his jaw and a thin layer of hair on his head. Talking to Chiron, he might have looked like any random convict. But you weren’t convinced he was harmless.
“Seriously, though. The vibes are off. Don’t you think? You’ve been here all summer with him haven’t you?”
Annabeth’s bright eyes raised to the man in question for a fraction of a second, before lowering to her food, pushing fries around with the fork in her grip. “Quintus is…difficult. You should be careful with what you say around him. Especially you.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?!”
“It means,” she lowered her tone, as if it was a super-secret secret. “I don’t trust him…particularly, and I know you always have a lot to say. Besides, something’s happening, can’t you feel it? Nobody trusts Quintus the way we should, since he came out of nowhere. Somebody mentioned the Oracle and he went crazy, he shut ‘em down. You have to keep your mouth shut this year, okay? Don’t disrespect the Gods, and don’t talk back to him.”
Being serious wasn’t in your nature, but you tried, for your sister’s sake. “Sure.”
“I’m serious.”
“No, you’re Annabeth.” Clarissa choked on her food, while Annabeth rolled her eyes.
It was a total pain that, not long after arriving, you had cabin inspection. A bore, grinding your nerves that you had to clean a cabin full of mess that wasn’t even yours—but Annabeth told you to quit whining, so you did, figuring you’d annoyed her enough already. Every afternoon for the first week, a senior counsellor came around with a checklist for every cabin. Thanks to your team efforts, you got the hot, clean showers first every time. Unfortunately for Percy, he fell somewhere around the middle-bottom league. You asked for snacks in return for your cleaning efforts, putting your home skills to use. Your best friend carried through on his promise—goods from the cabin store delivered promptly to your cabin every week.
Somewhere between the end of the first week and the weekend, you dipped your fingers in the lake water, watching the dark trailing swirls as you moved. Your ankle gently tapped Percy’s in the water, sitting at the end of the walkway. You can’t help noticing how much more grown up he looks this year. Older than you—you can’t seem to shed your baby face and freckles. Eyebrow waxing and tinting can only do so much.
“You know,” you say quietly, into the evening stars. “I think the Oracle wants to see me.”
Percy remains quiet at your confession. In the water’s reflection, you watch him nod. Maybe he thought this was a continuation of your want to see the future, carried through from last season. This time is very different, you want to tell him. Because this time, you feel it in your body that your time is here.
Dark curls gently sway with the movement of his nod. Even at fifteen years old, Percy respects your wishes, even if he doesn’t agree with them. “Want me to come with you?” Just being there is enough for him. There are no questions, with Percy. He understands you, and the way you talk. There is a mutual understanding that he’s there if you want, and there anyway. There is an underlying message in his words: I’m here if you need me to be.
“Yeah,” you dip your head, to your fingers laying just beside each others, not touching. “I’d like that.”
Intuition as a demigod means a lot. It can help the demigod avoid dangerous situations, or get them to act appropriately in time. In a few years from now, walking, lonely, along a shoreline yearning for someone who isn’t there, you’ll remember this moment, and question your own sanity. On the other side of the water will be a boy, sitting and praying on his knees in the sand, for your return. You’ll feel a million miles away yet so close, just the way you do now. This moment, in the present, feels so prominent and so odd that you commit it to memory, for later. Later always comes too soon. You shouldn’t get so caught up in the past, you hear a woman’s voice telling you. You want to scream until your throat feels raw; so why is the past always catching up to me? We live in memories; they shape you, they guide you—maybe that’s why you eventually feel so lost.
The next day, you kick yourself into action. You set about making a sword from scratch in the armoury (and bribing some Hecate kids to charm it for you, to a bracelet, or something. You haven’t quite decided yet). Something in the style of Percy’s sword would be beneficial.
“Do you think there’s a reason why my sword works so well with you?” The boy mutters, hanging upside down on the dock at night, cicadas singing all around. “Back at the school, I mean. You just…used it like it weighed nothing. It came to you.”
There probably is a reason. Chiron would know. But for now, you’re young, and you don’t care.
You go down to the training arena the next evening and watch newcomer Quintus fight against Percy—practicing. The older man might try to come across as harmless, and friendly, but there’s something you really can’t place your finger on.
“Good try,” the man nods. “But your guard is too low, Percy.”
Said boy parries back, undeterred. “Have you always been a swordsman?”
“I’ve been many things.”
And if that wasn’t strange enough, the purple insignia on his neck was. In the shape of a bird, the symbol sat against his stark skin like a terrible bruise. A reminder, he called it, when Percy asked. You decide you don’t want to know much more. You’ve made your mind up about the man.
The evening that you’ve made up your mind on going to the Oracle, something strange is in the air. It feels different, like it had when Ares met you in the diner your first quest, and the way it had when you ran away from home. Something was changing—had changed. When you raise your eyes to Chiron, talking with an animated Connor Stoll at his table, he raises his gaze like he’d been expecting you. He knows that you feel something is wrong, and you know that he understands what you mean. It’s a sure sign that this isn’t you being paranoid—this is real. Something is coming, and you wish you could avoid it with all your heart. Chiron shakes his head, curls jostling at his shoulders, a silent warning for you to be quiet—to let it be. He’s handling it.
In the middle of the dining place, striking across the floor, sits the crack where Nico di Angelo brought forth the dead. Since then, he’s been missing. And nobody will let you look for him. His grief showed his true colours, a hidden talent buried deep down. If Bianca hadn’t have passed, poor Nico would be here, and happy. He’d be safe.
Annabeth jokingly digs her hand into your side. Ticklish, you almost elbow her. “Shift it! I’m starving!” You draw your eyes away from the past, though it’s staring you right in the face.
You fall asleep that night with your fingers still against the edge of the curtain that stops right above your pillow, playing with it to watch the stars above camp. When you manage to drift off, feeling heavy and tired, you only hear words in the darkness.
“An exchange. A soul for a soul. A soul that should have died already. Someone who has cheated death.”
You can’t help but think, that’s you.
So you pull on a jacket and shoes, and slip from your cabin, trailing across camp in the quiet of night, taking in the sheer silence. In the distance, Festus snored and the Golden Fleece glowed, but that passed as you took the steps to the Big House, creaking under your feet. The lights inside are on, as they always are—the Big House is never closed. And somebody is always awake.
Unfortunately, tonight, the someone you want is not awake. Mr. D. is. You’re about to turn around when he blinks up from his magazine at the table, and waves his hand briefly. The door flies open, whacking the wall unapologetically. You stand, in mismatched socks and a saggy jacket, unimpressed.
“Where’s the manager?” You ask, folding your arms.
“That would be me.”
You scoff, stepping inside. “Bullshit.”
Inside, the lights are on, the house like a beacon. It smells of alcohol and coffee, though Mr. D. can’t drink ethanol. The scent lingers with him, like the smell of Cola. He sits in a too-big, starry shirt with red cheeks and bright orange pants. A fashion icon, on a different planet. A warm breeze drifts in from the open doorway, brushing your bare legs. The animal on the wall, above the chair where a clock also sits, stares at you, judging.
“I really need to speak to Chiron.”
“Not Quintus?” He lazily raises his brows. You laugh through your nose, shoving your hands inside your pockets. As you begin to walk the space, you blink at the dirt on your shoes, thinking.
“No. I’d rather jump off a cliff.” You stop. Pulling out a chair at the table, you sit heavily, legs outstretched, an arm over the back of the chair. You don’t look up. “I had a dream about that kid, Nico. He isn’t lost—he’s following someone’s orders. And we need to go get him. Someone wants to exchange lives—a soul for a soul. They said, someone who has skipped out on death.”
Silence fills the space. You look up, from your shoes. Mr. D. shrugs. “Okay?”
Fury fills you. “Okay? That’s all you got? Call for a quest!” You exclaim, getting to your feet. “Help Nico! A soul for a soul clearly means me. Did you just ignore the last quest altogether? How many times did I nearly die?”
His watery eyes blink, face unbothered. Mr. D. leans back on the sofa, flicking his magazine again. He hums. “How should I know?”
“You should! You should know these things. Please just…help me out, here. Get Chiron to call for a quest. Let me talk to the Oracle. We can save Nico! We can fix this! He’s a kid…he shouldn’t be out there alone. Someone is clearly controlling him. And personally, I think it’s a god.”
Now, he looks up. Those eyes harden. He doesn’t do anything, but the air shifts, changes, and you hate it. “Do you, now?”
“Yes,” you sigh slowly, watching carefully. Men can be unpredictable, you’ve learned that. Gods? A little bit more so. “Just…let me do this. Let me fix things before they get worse. Please.”
You plead the same way with Chiron, later that morning. “I know this is meant for me. This is my quest. My chance. Chiron, I swear. I feel this in my bones. We have to do something, because something big is happening. Nico needs somebody to help him, and someone powerful has risen. I’ve dreamt it. I feel it. And I know that you do, too. If you don’t believe me, let me talk to the Oracle! Talk to Percy. He knows about this. He knows how I feel about it all—!”
“Stop.” Chiron utters quietly. He cuts your rising tone in half, and you fall silent, waiting. He looks at you the same way that he has since you arrived—like you’re headed for your grave, and he’s trying to stop it. He sits looking out across the porch, across camp. “Go back to your cabin. Inspection’s due to start, is it not? I’m sure Annabeth would like your help—”
And…you finally snap. You swipe a hand over your hair, tugging on the ends. “Why does nobody listen to me?! I know that you can feel something is wrong. I know. If you’d just let me talk to the Oracle. Just this once. And I’ll stop. If nothing happens, I’ll leave it all alone,” you step forward, so you’re leaning on the railing, breathing deeply, waiting for his reaction. “We both know, though, that something will happen. You’re just scared of it.”
Later, you’ll realise, looking at a young boy on a rooftop, just why Chiron was scared. He was scared for all you heroes, then and always. Heroes die terrible deaths; they get hurt, and they don’t recover. They live difficult but happy lives. It’s the hard parts, he doesn’t like.
“We don’t all die,” you urge. “We don’t all suffer. If you let me do this, I’ll come back from wherever I’ll go. I’ll bring Nico back. I’ll fix all of this! You have to trust me on this one. I’ve had dreams. Nightmares. I know what’s coming, and what will happen if I don’t do something. You’ve always said that intuition is right, as a demigod. Isn’t that one of the first things you told me? Told Percy? Right now, my intuition is telling me that I have to do this! Please believe me.”
Waiting for his response is more nerve-wracking than spilling your thoughts to him at a million miles an hour. He holds a thousand-yard stare, like he’s seeing past you. Who is he seeing, you wonder? Which hero do you remind him of?
Chiron inhaled heavily, exhaling slowly. He looks tired. “You remind me…so much of your mother. So persistent to do the right thing. Not always the good thing, but the right. You young heroes…I will think about it. We have more pressing matters, right now. An Aethiopian Drakon was spotted this morning walking the camp border. We know Luke has made plans to invade, and my guess is this is the start of that idea. Quintus has suggested we have a round of war games tonight. You should tell Annabeth and Sienna, they’ll want to prepare no doubt…”
At breakfast, Quintus announces the war games after dinner. Annabeth yaps about how long it’s been since the last one. Clarissa tiredly asks what the war games are like. The conversation with Chiron plays on your mind while you scrape your offerings into the fire. A bit of toasted bagel and strawberries. The brightness of the flames reflect off your plate, grateful that you’re late to breakfast and there’s nobody waiting behind you.
“Help me get what I want, mom. We both know I’m meant for this. Let me save Nico. Let me save us.”
Whether she’ll listen—whether she even heard—is one thing, and carrying out on your wishes is another. A part of you wants to think about all the times she didn’t help you. But another part thinks of all the times she did, and you have a slither of hope that Athena will hear your desperation and help you out.
You remind me so much of your mother. You have lots in common, then. Maybe she’ll realise you’re more alike than either of you thought.
You turn and cast your gaze across the pavilion. Connor and Travis are throwing food across the table, so you’re not going there. At your table, Annabeth is staring at the sky like it’s the answer to all her problems. Silena Beauregard is sobbing her heart out at her haircut, so you’ll avoid her today. Finally, Percy and Grover. Percy in typical fashion of creased blue tee and jeans, and Grover chewing on lettuce, his horns poking through his curly hair. At the head table, Chiron is standing, not in the wheelchair, tall and…already watching. Maybe he does it on purpose—he just leaves. Campers shouldn’t sit at other tables, sitting with your own cabin is a where you should be.
You approach Percy, anyway, slinking onto the bench. Grover smiles at you, and you can’t tell if you’re paranoid or if Chiron has mentioned your talk this morning. Maybe you’re losing it—because you swore, hands down, that you talked to Mr. D. last night, and according to Chiron, he isn’t even at camp.
“What are we talkin’ about?” You pick at your bagel, eyeing Percy’s much more appealing chocolate pop tarts.
“Chiron wants Percy to convince me,” Grover utters, spearing his breakfast with a fork.
“Convince you of what?”
A plate smacks down on the table, rattling the dishes already there. Annabeth climbs over the bench and plonks down, reaching over you to steal one of Percy’s pop tarts. You have half a mind to snatch it back.
“I’ll tell you what it’s about,” Annabeth said. “The Labyrinth.”
You look between the three of them. “Labyrinth? Are we talking, like, Theseus’s Labyrinth? Ariadne, and shit?”
“Exactly that.”
“You’re not supposed to be here,” Percy hushes. “Either of you.”
“We all need to talk!” Annabeth insists.
“But the rules…” he frowns.
You shove the rest of your bagel in your mouth. “Rules-shmules. Cut to the point—I had a dream about Nico di Angelo, and he’s working with some psycho to exchange souls. He’s being controlled by someone. Last night, the Apollo kids went out to get rid of the drakon in the woods. I’ve had a weird feeling for weeks now that something’s coming and something has changed, and all of this is happening after Luke came up with the plans to invade and take over. Coincidence? I think not. We need to do something.”
Annabeth hums. “When you pair all that with the fact that Grover’s in trouble, and the Labyrinth we found this summer over in the woods? It’s all connected. It has to be. I think the only way we can figure it all out is by going into the Labyrinth. It didn’t appear for no reason, right? Clarisse found it by total accident, and we’ve been trying to investigate it all summer. We only get so far, though…”
“So,” Percy prodded. “It’s not under the king’s palace in Crete anymore. It’s actually under some random building in America?”
“It was never just under the palace, though,” you think aloud. “It was sprawling. It existed for so long before Theseus went inside that it just…adapted. Changed. If it grew there, chances are it isn’t just under some building in America. It’s probably everywhere. Just like Olympus moves with societal changes, and how an Underworld entrance is in L.A.”
“So, is the Labyrinth a part of the Underworld?”
It’s Annabeth’s turn to be confused. Grover shook his curly head. “No. There are probably passages leading down to the Underworld in the maze, but they’re not totally connected. Think of them as…alleys between streets. The Labyrinth is basically just under the surface of the mortal world, like a second skin. It’s been growing for thousands of years. It’s connected everything everywhere. You can get practically anywhere using the Labyrinth.”
It only occurs to you, then, that, “The Labyrinth that opened in camp…is Luke’s way in. It’s how he’s going to invade everywhere. He’s got it all planned to a T. Luke must have connections in camp, because the entrance to the Labyinth wasn’t here a few months ago. Someone has to be feeding him information on how it works, where it starts and ends. How to get inside. But who?”
It all clicks into place perfectly.
You’re your mother’s daughter, alright.
As it so happened, Chiron wanted Grover to explore the maze. Clarisse spent the summer inside of it, trying to get a feel for where it led to, the entrances and exits. It’s always changing, according to her, and she got lost a couple times. Chris Rodriguez went insane down there, says Annabeth. He’s still insane. But no other advancements have been made. Because nobody can find the entrances outside, or the exits inside. Grover still wants to find the god, Pan, and believes that the maze might be the only way to find him. But Grover is Grover, and he knows how he feels, so the maze isn’t a match. Annabeth urges him to go and keep looking. But…everyone knows something is wrong. Off.
When Quintus cleared his throat far too many times to be a sore throat, Annabeth got the hint and took you over with her to your own table.
“Convince him, will you?” She asks Percy, linking her arm with yours to pull your unwilling self along. “Talk to him.”
You eye Quintus and try to decide whether you’re a paranoid schizophrenic. Mr. D. would tell you straight. But he’s not here, and so says Annabeth, he never was. There’s excitement and unsettlement buzzing in your body, like you’re gearing up for something you don’t know about just yet. Sometimes, the body knows before the brain does, and it’s never wrong.
That evening, Quintus ordered the Capture The Flag armour to be handed out. Suited up and waiting for his orders, everyone crowded as the sun began to set, burning orange over the treeline. The mood among the campers was a lot more serious than when you played Capture The Flag.
“Right!” Quintus said, standing on the head table. “Gather round.” He dressed in black leather and bronze armour, like something from the past and the future mixed into one. Throwing in his greying hair into the mix was like seeing a ghost. The giant puppy (supposedly dangerous) that was Mrs O’Leary bounded and barked around Quintus, eating scraps off the floor. “You will be in teams of two—WHICH HAVE ALREADY BEEN DECIDED.” People began to grab at their friends and scream names, until he yelled over them.
“Awwwww!” Came a chorus of disappointment.
“The goal is simple: collect the gold laurels without dying.”
You lean over subtly to Percy, though you can’t just whisper in his ear anymore, he’s got so tall. “We do that every day.”
“The wreath is wrapped in the silk package tied to the backs of the monsters. There are six of these monsters, each has a silk package. Your goal is to find the wreath before the other teams. And…of course, you will have to slay the monster to get it, and not die.”
“Neat,” you mutter. It sounds straight forward enough. Around you, people agreed.
“I will now announce your partners. There’ll be no switching. No complaining. And NO trading.”
He went on to list the pairs, from a terrified Grover and spooked Tyson, to Clarisse and Joan, to Annabeth and Mason, to Connor and Travis, and you and Percy.
Percy grinned at you. “Nice.”
You shoulder-barged him so hard his armour turned ski-whif. You twirled your dagger between your fingers with what you could describe as utter skill, heading into the woods. The teams spread out, some walking, some sprinting. Percy held his sword at his side, and you were almost jealous of it. It was still light when you got into the woods properly but the height and density of the trees made it darker and colder than it really was.
“I spy with my little eye,” Percy spun in a circle. “Uhhhh…something beginning with T.”
“Trees.” You side-eyed him.
“Smarty-pants. Your turn.”
“I spy with my little eye, something beginning with P.” You hone in on the distant scuttling.
Percy gasps dramatically. “It’s a Percy!”
Your hand flies for his sword-side wrist. “No—package. Run!”
If this were a fun game, you might have run after the package strapped to the back of the creature. However…you were really quite scared. These creatures were huge, bigger than normal monsters, scorpions altered with huge pincers and poison dripping from their sides. When one came, three more followed. How on earth were you supposed to fight them all off? You nearly tripped over backward as Percy yanked on your armour. You scrambled to keep up with him, dirt flicking up off the ground. Another creature came out from that way, too, leaving you back-to-back with Percy.
“They don’t look happy,” he said.
“Absolutely not,” you agree.
You move slowly to be side-by-side instead, moving in the one direction the monsters aren’t keeping you stuck in. Your feet shift back, the ground declining. Percy, in front of you, trusts you to guide him, deflecting a hiss of poison with the flat of his sword just in time to catch it before it landed on your face. You exhale slowly, reaching your dagger hand behind you, catching on the side of a large rock, taller than the both of you, and one on the other side. The space between the two is slim, but with the creatures closing in on you, any sort of coverage is better than none.
“Bit tight there, no?” Percy suggests nervously, reaching his free hand up to his shoulder where your hand rests up on his armour, guiding.
“Cover is cover, man. Oh, that’s a bit steep—”
Before you can say another word, the ground under your feet gives way. All the breath leaves your lungs in the sudden, unexpected fall. Percy yells, shocked, falling backward into pure darkness. You land on hard ground, your armour taking most of the impact. Slightly winded, you sit up and rely on Percy to help you up, staring at the hole you fell through, the light sky and scorpions peering down to you. The boy next to you breathes frantically, panicking.
It couldn’t get any worse, right?
Wrong. You watch in total disbelief, the hole knitting together and closing up to leave you both in the pitch black. The make of Percy’s sword provides a tiny glimmer of a glow, casting between your faces—his wide-eyed, unblinking and yours terrified.
“Percy—”
“Don’t panic. It’s—it’s fine.”
Your voice rises to a high pitch. “Where are we?!”
“Well, we’re in a hole.” His voice shakes in response.
It’s freezing down here, and damp. You take a step back, dropping your dagger. It clatters and echoes in both directions. Your palms fly back as you lean and hit a wall, sliding them across dewy concrete. A breeze blows from one direction, whistling, all the way down to the other. The space doesn’t feel tight. When you reach your hand out to find Percy in the darkness, you can’t feel him.
“Are you there?” You whisper, throat tightening.
“Right here,” he gulps, and warm fingertips land in your hair. You slide your hand up to meet his wrist and don’t let go. His pulse flutters furiously under your tight fingers. “The whole woods, and four monsters come right to us. We’re like magnets.”
“Just you, man. Son of Poseidon ‘n all.”
“Glad you find this funny.”
“I’m glad you’re glad.”
As the two of you calm down ever so slightly, you push off the wall, still holding Percy, and reach for his sword, turning the material’s dim light this way and that. It doesn’t do much. “What is this? Maintenance tunnels?”
You want to laugh. But something weak and nervous has settled on your chest. “Percy…I think we’re in the Labyrinth.” The ground beneath your feet feels like brickwork, jolty, uneven. “Safe from scorpions, anyway.”
“This is new. Has to be. We would have known if there were caves here. Surely?…”
You nod, sniffing. “Definitely.” You thought of the crack made by Nico in the dining pavilion. Had the two of you made this? But how? It didn’t seem right. You lower your hand from Percy’s sword, and he slides his hand down…into your own clammy palm, off his wrist. Eyes widening, you don’t question it. He keeps his hand there. Percy shifts the sword light.
“It’s a long room,” he mutters.
“It’s not a room,” you realise. “It’s a corridor.” The darkness felt emptier in front and behind, and you had the terrible, crawling feeling that something was watching. If this was the maze, it would make sense: the maze is alive, after all.
He took a step forward, slipping your hand away. “Don’t!” You cried, a little too loudly, partially out of worry for danger but mostly so as not to be left alone. “Don’t go down there. We need to just…find an exit. We need to get out.”
If he sensed your panic—which, being Percy, he definitely did—he tried to calm you. “It’s okay,” he tried, somewhat soft. “It’s right—there…oh.”
You tried to think rationally under the rising terror. If this really was the maze, who was the maker? You sift through hours of books and facts and history mentally in seconds, working at a thousand mental miles an hour. The original maker, would have been Daedalus—the father of Icarus. Ancient Greeks and their creations…
“There has to be some sort of exit here,” you utter, trailing your hand up the wall. You let go of Percy’s and brush both across the dewy walls. “A mark, maybe? Daedalus was a creator. All creator’s leave their trademark, I think. If we’re talking Ancient Greece then it’s probably a Greek letter or…sign…something.” You liked to assume the trademark would be something to feel, and close by. You heard Percy copying you without question. You know one another by now, and how each other works. You often lead—Percy often follows. It’s a level of trust you’ve had no choice but to build on over the years. Act first, question later.
His unsure tone came forth in the darkness. “I’m not—”
“Got it!” A eureka! moment brings relief, and a bit of weight falls from your shoulders. A dented brick in the wall, in the shape of the ancient Delta—a small L. It began to glow bright blue when you pressed into it. You’d have smiled if you weren’t so worried. The roof slid open, dirt falling in atop of you. You’d been expecting scorpions and sunlight, not…stars, and the dark sky. Elatedness turns into sheer and utter bafflement. Metal ladder rungs speared out of the wall, to the opening in the ceiling. People were screaming your names, some distantly, some close by. Percy glanced nervously to you, and nodded to the ladder.
Humid air greeted you. Up on the surface, the ground closed over again, like it had never fallen open in the first place. Percy, crouched, brushed his hand over the place there should have been a gash. Nothing.
“Where the hell have you two been?” Clarisse rounded into your space, face like fury. “We’ve been looking forever!” She demanded.
Maybe it was how you shook, leaning against the rock. It might have been the paleness of Percy’s face.
“We were only gone five minutes,” he said.
Chiron trotted up, followed by Annabeth and a new camper. “You guys okay?” She asked, breathing deep.
“We’re fine,” Percy got to his feet. “We fell into a hole.” People looked skeptically to him, but you opened your mouth.
“Honest.” Chiron looked like his worst fears were coming to life. “We were out here just fighting those scorpions and then the ground just opened. Didn’t feel that long down there, but obviously…”
“You’ve been missing for nearly three hours,” Chiron ran a hand over his face. “The game is over.”
“Yeah,” Annabeth piped up. “We nearly won. Until Tyson fell on me.”
You eyed the golden laurels Clarisse wore. Usually, she’d brag and flaunt in typical Ares-kid fashion. This time, the girl stood judging. “It just opened?” She repeated.
“Chiron, maybe we should talk about this somewhere else? At the Big House?” Said Annabeth.
Clarisse pushed further into the circle. “You found it, didn’t you? You went into the maze!”
You turned your head in a short tilt, scoffing. “Yeah. Yeah, we found it…”
Campers grew rowdy, yelling questions and firing anxiety. Chiron held his hand up and it grew quiet. “Tonight is not the right time, and this is not the right place.” He stared at the giant rock formations like they were dangerous. “All of you, back to your cabins. Get some sleep. You played well, but it’s well past curfew!”
There was a lot of complaining and mumbling, but campers dwindled and retreated to their cabins, no doubt going to talk about your missing evening with Percy.
“That explains what Luke is after,” Clarisse shrugged.
You froze. “So I was right, this morning—we found Luke’s invasion route into camp?”
If looks could kill, you’d be back in that hole. Annabeth nodded, staring at you. Clarisse popped off on a spiralling theory, and Percy pressed his hand into your shoulder. Chiron had turned grey, face stony.
You didn’t know, then.
You’d just just started digging your own grave.
