On a whim, I watched the Tri films for the first time last summer, and in so doing discovered the existence of Last Evolution Kizuna and the then-upcoming 02: The Beginning. I was never big into Digimon growing up, but it was a part of my childhood nonetheless (Ken's story especially had a huge impact on me as a kid). Thus I rewatched the first two seasons subbed in order to prepare for the final sequel movies, gaining a better appreciation for the series as a whole in the process. While 02 still holds the most special place in my heart, I thought Kizuna was a lovely send-off to the OG crew, and quickly made this tribute in four days after watching the film lol. Waited until now to post (after finally seeing 02TB too since I sadly didn't get to in theaters) as a commemoration for Odaiba Day. Farewell, old friends - you are, and always will be: Champions of the Digital World~

ridiculous dramatics out of the way: have y’all ever made an amv before? that post about amvs as an art form had me curious.

Long ago in the mists of time (around 15 years ago) we got briefly very invested in making AMVs. Technically we made two, both for Digimon Adventure 02, but one of them was eaten by our computer's harddrive, and we were so distraught we just stopped.

This is the one that remains.

22 years later and the story of Jeri and Takato (and by extension Leomon) still gets me right in the feels. Right in the heart. Just like how Leomon died, yuk yuk yuk.

I really gave my all for this one, and went way further with it than I initially expected - including re-creating a scene that I forgot didn't actually exist in the show - to make the definitive version of the AMV I made 16 years ago. I hope you enjoy it.

I remember you saying something about how crazy it was that a bunch of 90's pop for a small ripple in time could be considered "Pokemon" in the same way a bunch of early 2000's pop and rock is for "Digimon". And I know you mean in the way of " I can't believe these are technically part of their official soundtrack catalog but a part of me wanted to ask, isn't that the whole point of AMV's taking things that were good on they're own and mashing them together cause they unintentionally fit so well? And most anime seem to mix well with unrelated western music as long as they're the right vibe.

90's pop was bright and poppy, so it fits with Pokemon

2000's pop was hip and a bit edgy so it fits with Digimon

Like the first time I heard Queen's Don't Stop Me Now. I thought "man this shit fit's Sonic the hedgehog real well." Then I made a AMV with it. Come 6 years later Don't Stop Me Now is used in the 1st Sonic movie and 2 years after that in advertisements for Sonic Frontiers so I had to be on to something.

It was more so due to me remembering a time where people tried to say some of the music on the Mewtwo Strikes Back soundtrack had no real business being attached to Pokemon but now through the power of time and understanding it's practically unanimous that "Nah; this IS Pokemon. ALL of it".

Also, now that you brought it up I gotta talk about Digimon: The Movie's soundtrack for a second because that shit was legendary. It introduced me to some music I ended up really becoming a fan of and brought back others I was already a fan of and now I associate them all with Digimon. Where a lot of people go to Shrek my mind goes to Digimon when it comes to All Star. Also, Mystery Men.

Back to your point though, which is a great one to bring up, you really put a perspective on it where it's like, damn; they were basically out here making AMVs for theaters. There have also been cases I believe where AMVs when done well inspired the powers that be to actually do something official with it. AMVs are a gift. We won't talk about certain shipping ones though.

I made “Rika’s Blindness” in 2003 on request for someone named Starwire. In 2020, It came to light that Starwire was an old screenname of Seasons when he asked for a copy of the video (since I had taken down all the links for it). He said he still liked it. I had always liked the idea behind the video, and had sort of wanted to remake it. The 2003 vid was done really poorly and I only had 3 episodes to work with. After I happened to find a bluray of Digimon Tamers, I decided that I’d remake the video for Seasons’s birthday. And here we are. Technical Details This video was deceptively difficult and frustrating, especially when it looks so simple. I had to use quite a few masks and match motion due to how the series was animated. I’m still not entirely pleased with it, but it looks way better than when it all started. It took approximately 17 hours to complete. Started on 13 December 2020 and finished on 14 March 2021.
