despite growing up as part of the 2000s western anime fan craze,(and despite being Me), only today I have learned that the Three Days Grace "Animal I Have Become" official music video is just Like that, huh.

Tag Fact #3 -  I’ve come to realize I’ve always been a fan artist more than I thought. so here is a timeline of influences that shaped my childhood to now. from nostalgic times, to sad changes, to great loss, to strange rises to fame and phases, to stepping stones and finally a laughing place. all the things that make up your favorite fan artist Tag.
1. Rayman (bumped into this in the year of 1999) was actually the first fandom (with crossovers) I bumped into when I was 9. although the internet wasn’t available at the time it was still fun to dwell in home amusements. I remember the storylines and the OC’s I made but they’re kind of embarrassing and it’s probably a good thing there was no internet. I’ve done fanart and comic crossovers of Rayman with Calvin and Hobbs and Nights Into Dreams, spinoffs of Sonic the Hedgehog OC’s, Yoshi with Pikachu, and the Pokemon/Digimon craze with OC’s and other Nintendo comic shorts. but the drawings and comics are long gone and disappeared in the garage in a backpack due to suspecting my sister’s dad accidentally throwing them away. years later towards the year 2018 (now 28), we decided to move to North Carolina and it was my chance to find them again. unfortunately the backpack was gone just like I suspected (my main stuff), but for some reason I found my Pokemon/Digimon fanart, a good batch of Super Mario drawings (vaguely remember doing these), my sister’s drawings and some other neighborhood kids’ drawings in a dirty box. I was partially happy I found something at least but it was the backpack I wanted the most. sometimes I regret not looking for the backpack (’cause I was too busy being a kid) but it’s alright, noone needs to see that shit anyway, ha ha. anyways, I recall being a fan of Rayman from 1999 ‘til 2002.
2. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (bumped into this in the year of 2003) my second fandom I bumped into when I was 12 going on 13. at the time, my sister and I both liked the Sonic The Hedgehog Franchise based on the Battle remake and ended up making our own secret fanart club that consisted of only us two members. she liked Sonic (and that was her boyfriend, ha ha) and I liked Knuckles (and he was my boyfriend, ha ha) and we were crazy in love about Shadow’s backstory. we listened to the game’s soundtracks as we drew fanart and comics after school and man, those were good times. however, as we grew older towards the year of 2005, we ended up having separate rooms and I believe it played a part in disconnecting on the same interest. then one day, I asked her why she wasn’t into Sonic anymore and she replied, “Because I grew up.” I was sad after that and slowly observed that she was influenced by the emo culture and the new friends she’s made. I was the only member of our little club for a little longer...but eventually I moved on too. I still have some surviving fanart we did together but it doesn’t mean shit anymore since she turned out to be an abusive mother from the last I’ve heard of her.
3. Gorillaz (bumped into this in the year of 2006). as the Sonic years were at its end, I first heard the song “Feel Good Inc” on Music Choice and seeing the first image of them as displayed on this post (except the fan-made background doesn’t count since I can’t find the original artwork). this was my third fandom and later had proper access to the internet to the website I still currently use called DeviantArt. at first I liked 2D but eventually fell for Murdoc and developed a spiritual connection towards the character as obviously seen in my old fanart and rare photos of my devotion shrines on Valentine’s Day and his birthday every year. for the longest time since being a permanent fan from 2006-2017 (11 1/2 years) I had no knowledge that it was a political propaganda band and other realizations I don’t want to talk about. I only followed them because it was a cartoon and not the bullshit behind the musical project. the world I’ve built and support for them for all those 11 1/2 years shattered the fuck out of me and I just wanted to be left alone to find myself again, somehow. activity stopped on all my profiles, the flow of fanart stopped since I now cringe from the fan service and felt I was used for my talent. I didn’t want to be reminded of it all so I took down all my Gorillaz fanart and archived them for old followers’ nostalgia but also in the hopes they’ll be forgotten in my timeline. I ceased to exist in the fandom for huge personal reasons but it’s best to not say why. I know for sure that the fandom wonders what happened but it’s none of their business. THE END.
4. Waluigi (although I knew he’s been around since 2000 during childhood, I took deep interest once I revisited the character again in the year of December 2013). as silly as this sounds, when I revisited him again, the character was so bizarre that I ended up staying up 3 nights and 3 days in a row just looking all over the internet on everything about him and the questionable “hush-hush” absence of a backstory. despite there being no backstory he slowly gained a cult following and in many ways it’s a good thing. however, since the early 2010′s tension has been building up between Nintendo and its fans about him starring in a main game but everyone hasn’t fully gotten it in their heads that it’s not gonna happen. as long as Nintendo is in control of that, the fandom will not win, I’m sorry to say. on the other hand, if it’s going to be this way, then that’s what fanart and comic projects are for. as for me, I am doing my very best to get my comic project “Waluigi Land” going. again, I apologize if it’s taking very long to get Chapter 2 going if you’ve been keeping track but aha moments need to develop before I start permanent drawing (since concepts, character design and storyline needed improvement badly). as of right now I am still a Waluigi fan and I will not quit on him.
5. Turbo from Wreck-It-Ralph (although it debuted in 2012, I watched the movie two years later into the year 2014). for some bizarro reason, I had an unhealthy obsession with this character to the point where I dressed up as him for Halloween 2014. only 2 fanarts of him and the Turbo Twins exist on my profiles, mainly because my mind was more focused on just ‘thinking about him’ or ‘being him’ rather than drawing physical drawings. luckily, this supposed alleged fandom didn’t last long a little after Halloween so I chalk it up as a very short phase. to this day I don’t know what has gotten over me about him. the only thing I can think of now is that I think it’s because the character had yellow eyes and teeth but I don’t know. now that I think of it, that little fucker was ugly as hell and I STILL don’t know what had gotten over me. one day, my brother mentioned what that was about, and I said to him, “I don’t wanna talk about it.”
6. Undertale (although it debuted in 2015, I later took interest in it in 2016). It was all about Sans and Papyrus. I couldn’t get enough of the skeleton bros. eventually Toriel and Mettaton EX became my favorites but it took a long time to draw more of all 4 of them because I had other important things to do in my life plus I was still waiting for the next Gorillaz album to revive my imaginative juices (or so I thought). I really want to have this as one of my frequent fandoms but I just don’t have time for it anymore. it’s still in the back of my head to want to draw them but at this point I still have other better interests to be in. and besides, I’m lazy just like Sans.
7. Cuphead (June 28th, 2017 was the official day I called quits on the British-based band Gorillaz due to the bullshit behind it. since that date I was lost, had no inspiration to look forward to and no cartoon guy to make me smile...but lo and behold of the same year, I took an interest in playing the game Cuphead and man...that shit was a frightening exaggerated metaphor for being on that one drug (forgot the name though) and having sex at the same time but man that was the best fun I’ve had in years. I mean, it’s like, enemies are just so happy to murder you and that scared the shit outta me. and the facial exaggeration?....I think I should stop, ha ha. anyways, the Moldenhauers saved my ass from spiraling down, they have no clue. anyways, eventually I became a permanent fan of their work so to ease the hurt and erase my past from the G-fandom I had to re-wire my brain into a different cartoon category that’s a rather more American, so anything Toon related like Roger Rabbit, Felix the Cat or another favorite that’s a western-based cartoon makes me feel better, especially my new man .......King Dice <3 <3<3<3. however, there was something about this new fandom category I still didn’t quite understand until the date March 14th, 2020. I finally understood what it was but I feel I shouldn’t bring it up. anyways, Cuphead and anything western or rubber hose is my last stop in inspiration for the remaining years of my life. many say never say never but I believe I’ve found my laughing place and that’s all that matters.

lantern - how did you meet your best friend? What were your first impressions of each other?
There was this one sort of stoop thing that ran along a building at school, sort of by this kinda courtyard area that had picnic tables/planter boxes for trees and flower beds, and a big globe painted on the blacktop. Me and some other kids liked to sit there. I guess we were kind of the losers, but some of us were different levels of popular. I was a loser for sure. This one girl I’d known for a little while brought somebody she knew to sit with us, and I think at the time she kinda snuck over because the area was only for middle schoolers, and 1-5 grade stayed over at the big playground. The new girl was in 5th and I was in 6th (for the second time, I’d been held-back for sucking at math). We all had the common love for Pokemon in the group, so the friendship started there. I had a few good friends there, some lasted, some just sort of faded away, some ended. That younger girl became my absolute best friend in the whole world. When I first met her, I thought she was adorable and I was also amazed by how intelligent she was. She was seriously one of the smartest people I’d ever talked to. So, it was really cool that she liked a lot of stuff I liked. We talked about Pokemon and Digimon first, then a few years later it was Teen Titans and Avatar the Last Airbender, then TMNT, and just tons of other stuff. She’d tell me about books and comics I hadn’t read, I’d show her movies she hadn’t seen. I think in the beginning she might have thought I was a lot tougher than I really am, so it means a lot that she still wants to be friend with me after knowing me for so long and seeing my weakest points. We are still constantly telling each other about story ideas and characters we’ve made up. I love her so much, she is such a great friend, and just a really kind and cool person~
thank you for asking!

Choose 8 you'd like to answer please.
The answers were a lot longer than I had intended but I hope its okay! and I just chose some completely random ones I hope they;re not too boring!
11) Favoritemythological creature?
I’ve always liked thegeneric stuff but for some reason my all time favorite is and will forever bethe infamous Chupacabra aka Spanish for ‘Goat sucker’. I really don’t know whyI think it’s just because of the way you say it….
25) FavoritePokemon(s)/Digimon(s)/Monster Rancher(s) and why?
I just chose Pokémonfor that’s the one I know best and my favorite being Mudkip. He was one of myfirst Pokémon’s I ever had although Totodile is forever in my heart; my veryfirst Pokémon!
41) Disney: movie,character, song?
Mulan will forever beone of my all time favorite Disney movie of all time. I’m just going with twoother Disney movies for the next two. Character hmm I hate to say it be Elsa isone of my favorites, mainly cause I really relate to her and I feel as if thatwas a first. I love a lot of Disney songs but four I have a hard time choosing betweenand those being. We are one: The Lion King 2, One of us: The Lion King 2,Colors of the wind: Pocahontas and God help the outcast: The Hunchback of NotreDame.
65) That teacher youhad? For better or worse.
I still currently havehim and he is one of the best teachers you could ever ask for. He is a brilliantman and a genius. He served in the military for 25 years and worked in juvenilecourt (something of that sort like a social worker) for a long time. He’spublished papers that had named him a Historian and that he is. He talks aboutfacts and the most obscure facts that is too. Ask him some random historical questionhe is likely to have a book full of answers. He is a brilliant man he justturned 51 the other day and made a joke about Area 51. He is really funny andopen-minded, he is truly a wonderful teacher he barely gives out work, he seesno point and all he wants to do is teach us. He loves our current class (worldhistory) and deems us all extremely smart kids (I think everyone is that be me…nah….). He has given a reason to look forward to going to school.
78) What personalitiesdo you look for in others?
Patience is the veryfirst thing I try to find in potential friends and/or lovers (I guess).Patience is a must for someone like me; with my hearing issues and my extremeintrovertedness is quite a burden to deal with. But humor I admire, understandabilityand/or empathy. Also someone who is the dominate one and helps me get out more.
79) What do you do torelax and unwind?
Watch Youtube, surfthe internet and just stay home.
89) Spirit animal? Bespecific.
Owls and that being theGreat Grey Owl; long story short wisdom.
97a) Best classsubject you had/have in school?
I had it very recently and that class was Honors: Law, Society and Citizenship.I absolutely adored that class it was pretty much what it says it is and wetalk of so many things and very touchy subjects. But the talk of Law, thegovernment in depth and history and just so many things that are hugely misunderstoodby the general public and ignorance. (It was a class but also the whole thingwas the subject pretty much…. Does that count?) (Also the same teacher that isin 65).
Once again I hope it’s not too boring!

I’ve been trying to come to grips with the source of a lot of my stories.
Not as in content, but how I come up with them.
Since about 2nd grade I’ve cultivated my imagination. But instead of doing so through writing, it’s all been through daydreaming. Hyperfocusing. My earliest daydreams were formed while spending recesses on my own in second grade, imagining myself as a gargoyle (because Gargoyles is lit and I was like 7 at the time) and flying and going to see my dad and some other relatives in other states. These escalated over time, and I often spent recess on my own, swinging, imagining, daydreaming.
I used to spin to music and just let my imagination run wild; when I got a little older, I started to pace. We’ll get back to that.
It didn’t stop. In middle school I started more fanworks; I started drawing seriously. Well, not too seriously (if I had I’d be better by now), but I did it more. Investing myself in shows and characters and ocs for stuff like FF7, Chrono Cross, Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball Z, Kingdom Hearts, etc. Imagining. Daydreaming in class. I was a decent student; but my procrastination began with homework soon enough. It often took me hours to complete. My mind was almost always consistently abuzz with some kind of idea; whether fleshed out or not. There were too many times I broke out of a daydreaming realizing I had no idea what my teachers had just been talking about for five-ten minutes.
That’s probably also what contributes to my overthinking, especially with my OCD. In 2005, my overthinking lapsed over into ‘reality’ and that was not a good deal. Fears and the like took over; intrusive thoughts started. And OCD habits I’d shown for years just kind of exploded. I stopped drawing and writing out of fear that I would do something I was ashamed of. It took a while to really get back into the swing of everything, but several years later I was re-inspired and I had a small renaissance in 2009 (ask me about Crisis Core).
Years later, I’ve been doing my best to understand how everything is connected. Why don’t I read more when I love to imagine?
I love to write. Or do I? I don’t write much honestly. I’ve gone months without writing prose. I don’t study different books, or authors. Reading is sometimes a chore as my attention span can barely stay put. My sister has suggested audio books, because she has a bad attention span too; but I can’t draw what I’m imagining while listening to whole other story. What else can I do when listening to an audio book? Some clean, some craft - my base talents are doodling, and I always mostly draw from my daydream stories; which are almost always the same characters, the same daydream.
I read an article yesterday about something that I’ve thought about for a while. Maladaptive daydreaming. And it hit home. I grew up with divorced parents; my mom and sister and eventual stepdad moved quite a few times before settling on a place when I was 7. My first grade teacher wanted me on medication, and my mom said no; but any disruptions I caused left with the changing of schools - which was the same year my daydreaming started. I didn’t have a lot of friends; but I did have some reliable family; family that watched a lot of television and played a lot of video games - this media is still some of my favorite and has helped shape me. But it also kind of contributed to me being a bit of an odd kid.
I used to have trouble doing anything original. I relied on fanworks as a kid. I did have a couple of original ideas in high school, but nothing that ever saw the light of day past graduation. (I’m lucky I saw graduation, yikes). Now, fanworks are rare for me; I’m also super picky with some of my content these days.
Lately, I’ve been realizing my stories are the products of grown daydreams; just with their own arcs and stories that, because I’m always daydreaming, haven’t had the chance to stay solid. Haven’t really had the chance to grow. And that’s why I’ve never felt like a real writer. I’m not writing ‘stories’. I’m just daydreaming, and sometimes drawing them and calling these people characters, and talking about things they do, but not understanding their full story. They’re mechanisms.
My stories have always been mechanisms to keep me occupied from a world I’ve always ignored emotionally.
The music and pacing? I do that to this day at the age of 31. When I’m home alone, I often blare music and just try to let my mind go wild. Sometimes it’s story related; sometimes not. Sometimes I can’t think of anything that makes me want to continue. Sometimes I’m so engaged I’ll hit my hand on something during a turn.
My four core stories just kind of happened. Bequest came to me while at work in 2011, standing near my register during a slow night - letting my mind wander. 2011 was a year that I sought out counseling because my anxieties overflowed again; the first time since my initial breakdown. In 2014 CoffeeBoy occurred; but this time it was a month after a vacation in Gatlinburg and meeting one of my best friends for the first time. I’d also just switched jobs and graduated college that year. 2016 was another year my emotions were rough. 2016 was just not great altogether; but it was the year I discovered PDatSK after a RP session with my friend.
2017 is the year I really recall feeling heavy, and noticing the possibility of depression. A lot of my art and writing since then has dramatically waned. I’ve lost two major family member since 2015, one of my uncles and my grandmother; two of the reliable family members mentioned earlier. But I’ve almost never felt like it affected my works. But I think instead, in keeping steady, I blocked myself off from my emotions; which in turn caused everything else to just stop.
and then in 2019 was when Hark started coming to life, but I also started experiencing life with no hyperfocus; which made me feel like the living dead. I had no direction; no consistent daydream to keep me occupied or entertained.
2019 was the first year I felt this in full. In my lack of inspiration, or ability to have my fully-fleshed daydreams, I just didn’t... have them. Which has rarely happened.
So now, in 2020, I’m trying to learn from those lessons.
I’m trying to turn things around.
To just write.
Just write.
Just draw.
Let it come back in a new way.
Explore, and try to explore actually writing and understanding the stories and thoughts of others.
I wouldn’t call myself a writer, but it was one of the first ways I explored bringing my daydreams to life, along with drawing.
So explore your thoughts. Let them live and breathe. And do the same, and support others.
And see what 2020 will bring, instead of letting it all live inside; because you know the thought of something happening to you before you can bring these characters to life is something that genuinely frightens you. Because it’s what happened to Uncle Jerry.
Find out where the words will take you.
