Effie absentmindedly stirs the mug of hot chocolate, staring out of the kitchen window. She's watching the water in the pool reflecting light, throwing it around the back yard. She doesn't know exactly what she's looking for, but she has a suspicion.

There was a time, not too long ago, when the pool was always full of young wixen. When the garden was lively, full of flowers and herbs. When three families would gather on the back patio and eat and talk until late.

But not anymore.

Now the garden is slowly dying, like the rest of the wizarding world. Like the families that built it.

It's been three days since the McKinnon's were murdered in their home, just three houses over. Try as she might, Effie can't forget the paralyzing fear that seized her that morning.

She'd glanced out of the front window and seen the dark mark in the sky above their house.

It took the Order thirty-three minutes to get there.

Effie had to stop both her husband and son from storming in there without back up. Effie lost one of her best friends that day, but that sadness was nothing like the desperation and longing she felt for her son. James lost his cousins that day. His siblings. His sister.

Thirty-six hours later the Pettigrew's had packed their stuff and fled to Oceania. So Effie lost her other best friend. She doubts that they'll ever come back, if there ever is anything to come back to.

Effie knows she's getting sick, she can feel it. She fears it's already too late for Monty, he's mostly bedridden now. Once he passes on, Effie doubts she'll be around for much longer.

But she's made her peace with it, accepted it. Dying that is, but she's worried about James. James, the light of her life, her baby. Effie knows he'll be alright, he has his friends to help him through it.

She can only hope he lives long after they're gone.

Hope in a war doesn't do much though.

As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT????
