Murder me all you’d like, but to know your opinion on MacNamera.

I LOVED him in TGWDLM. Third favorite character to be honest. Right behind Hidgens and Mr. Davidson.

But that was because he was a silly maverick who fought for his own values, yet his values were a little… odd? Real lawful chaotic there.

But in Black Friday… he was more plot device than character. He does a “deus ex machina” (when a character saves another character from the brink of death) three times. Honestly, I kinda call it a deus ex macnamera now. Plus, he gives all the exposition about Wiggly, which I hated. Have wiggly show rather than tell. Showcase wiggly’s power more to showcase that, while a god with unfathomable power, he must have *some* weakness.

I just kinda wanna know your opinions!

(Side note, I love all these ask conversations. They are amazing, and I love responding to them)

Going to be honest, I’m not the biggest MacNamera fan, Jeff’s acting style never really appealed to me. HOWEVER. I do love him for his jokes, and a lot of his songs. I like the way he serves the plot, even if he has some level of plot armour that doesn’t make the most sense, such as him being a deus ex machina as you pointed out. The moment when he used the last of his life to save Lex will always be an amazing piece of acting to me. ‘America is great again’ is such a good song (I may be biased cause Teds in it), and the choreography of ‘Monsters and Men’ is incredible. (Also Wiley and MacNamera interacting is so fun for me. I may just have a thing for rivals with a history). Also his jokes!! ‘Wear a watch’ is hilarious, and him authorising Paul to use his firearm via pointing it at him never fails to make me wheeze like a kettle. His interactions with the president are also very entertaining, but then again I love Curt Mega so I’m ✨biased✨

english tends to be very keen on stealing words from other languages for itself (hence the idea of 'three languages stacked on top of each other in a trenchcoat' even though it actually conveys this idea incredibly poorly)

but there is one thing it did not steal that it definitely should have: unaltered, unchanged latin. like in french there is 'etc' (contraction of 'et caetera), 'mea culpa', 'ad vitam aeternam' and like

it's still understandable to a lot of english speakers, but it's not commonly used. the only ones i could think of are 'momentum' , 'alter ego' and 'deus ex machina'

i just wanna be able to say 'tempus fugit' or 'veni vidi vici' in my day to day conversations without having to explain myself is that too much to ask

i want to use them. 'carpe diem'. 'ad hominem'. 'nota bene'. 'post scriptum'. 'vade retro satanas'. 'ex nihilo'. 'status quo'. 'memento mori'. 'persona non grata'. 'veto'. 'sine qua non'. 'a fortiori'. 'a posteriori'. 'a contrario'. 'a priori'

some of them are complete, heavily context-dependent phrases like 'dura lex sed lex' but a lot of those are basically used like normal words in french

by not allowing that, my dear english language, you are showing yourself as inferior to the frenchmen. think about that.

so i just watched tonight’s ep of supergirl, deus lex machina, and i don’t get it???

lena said she didn’t want lex in the fortress of solitude- something about that sounding apocalyptic, which was great- but then SHE USES HIS TRANSMATTER PORTAL WATCH TO GO THERE. NO. WHY WOULD SHE DO THAT. she should know how it works, she’s used them before and modified them in crisis to transport whole spaceships to other universes. of course it would retain the coordinates of the last location! even old phones have that ‘redial last caller’ button (according to old tv shows... but caller ID and call logs are still a thing). of course lex’s tech is gonna have the basics that even phones have. lena would have known this.

at this point all of this is only gonna make sense if it turns out lena has been playing them all so she can take out both lex and leviathan in one fell swoop:

“you told me you flew here on a bus, and glasses are not an adequate disguise, kara. of course i knew you were supergirl. and yes, i was hurt you didn’t tell me- but since everyone seems to think i’m an idiot i figured i might as well use it to my advantage. lex and leviathan are gone now. you’re fucking welcome.”
