The Lifespan of Dental Implants: How to Ensure Long-Lasting Results
Dental implants are a reliable, long-term solution for missing teeth. They not only restore the appearance of your smile but also help improve function and oral health. However, to ensure your dental implants last as long as possible, you need to follow certain care practices. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to take care of your dental implants and extend their lifespan.
Tumblr media
1. Choose a Skilled San Diego Dentist
The success of your dental implants starts with selecting an experienced and skilled dentist. A well-placed dental implant is essential for long-lasting results. San Diego dentist Dr. Arash Qadeer at Mesa Dental specializes in dental implants and uses advanced techniques to ensure the best possible outcome for your implant procedure. Proper placement is key to ensuring that your implant lasts for many years without issues.
2. Maintain Excellent Oral Hygiene
While dental implants are made from durable materials, they still require proper care just like your natural teeth. One of the most important factors in maintaining your dental implants is good oral hygiene. Here’s how you can keep your implants in top condition:
Brush twice a day using a soft-bristle toothbrush to avoid damaging the gums.
Floss daily to remove plaque buildup around the implant area.
Consider using an antibacterial mouthwash to help prevent infections.
By keeping your teeth and gums healthy, you’ll protect the area around your implants and prevent complications that could shorten their lifespan.
3. Regular Dentist Appointments
Regular dental checkups are crucial for monitoring the health of your dental implants. During your dentist appointment, your dentist will examine the implant and surrounding gum tissue to ensure everything is in good condition. Routine cleanings are also important to prevent gum disease, which could affect the stability of your implant. Be sure to schedule biannual visits with your San Diego dentist to catch any potential issues early.
4. Avoid Harmful Habits
Certain habits can cause damage to your dental implants, shortening their lifespan. Here are some practices to avoid:
Smoking: Smoking increases the risk of gum disease and can impair the healing process after getting dental implants.
Chewing on hard objects: Avoid biting down on hard items like ice or pens, as this can put unnecessary pressure on the implants.
Teeth grinding: If you grind your teeth, your dentist may recommend wearing a mouthguard at night to protect your implants from excessive force.
By avoiding these harmful habits, you can prevent unnecessary wear and tear on your implants and ensure they remain stable for years to come.
5. Stay Proactive with Gum Health
Healthy gums are essential for the long-term success of dental implants. Gum disease is one of the leading causes of implant failure, as it can erode the bone that supports the implant. To keep your gums healthy:
Brush and floss regularly as mentioned earlier.
Eat a balanced diet rich in nutrients that promote oral health.
Be mindful of any signs of gum disease, such as redness, swelling, or bleeding, and visit your dentist promptly if you notice these symptoms.
Your San Diego dentist can also provide tips and guidance to help you maintain excellent gum health, reducing the risk of implant failure.
6. Choose High-Quality Dental Implants
Not all dental implants are created equal. The quality of the materials used in your implant can affect how long it lasts. Choosing a reputable dentist who uses high-quality implants will improve the chances of long-term success. Dental implants San Diego patients receive at Mesa Dental are made from durable, biocompatible materials that integrate well with the jawbone, ensuring a long-lasting solution for missing teeth.
7. Keep an Eye on Your Bite
Your bite alignment plays an important role in the longevity of your dental implants. If your bite is uneven or your teeth are misaligned, this can put extra pressure on the implant. After your implant procedure, your dentist may recommend adjustments to your bite to distribute the force evenly across your teeth and implants. Regular checkups can help identify and address any bite-related issues before they cause damage.
Dental implants are designed to last many years, but proper care is essential to achieve long-lasting results. By following these tips, you can protect your investment and enjoy the benefits of a healthy, confident smile for decades to come. If you’re considering dental implants in San Diego, Mesa Dental offers expert care to help you through every step of the process—from initial consultation to long-term maintenance.

The Importance of Immediate Care: Your Guide to Emergency Dentist Services in Scarborough
Dental emergencies can happen at any time, and when they do, finding prompt and reliable care is crucial. Whether you’re experiencing severe tooth pain, a cracked tooth, or an oral injury, knowing where to go for immediate dental help can make all the difference. In Scarborough, accessing professional and timely dental care is easier than ever with the right resources at your disposal.
This guide will provide insight into the types of dental emergencies, what to expect from an emergency dentist office in Scarborough, and how to find dental emergencies near me to ensure you receive the treatment you need promptly.
Tumblr media
What is a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is any situation where immediate professional dental care is required to save a tooth, stop bleeding, alleviate severe pain, or treat an infection. Understanding what constitutes an emergency can help you determine the best course of action when faced with an oral issue.
Common dental emergencies include:
Severe Toothache: Persistent or unbearable tooth pain may indicate an underlying issue like an infection or cavity that requires prompt attention.
Chipped, Cracked, or Broken Tooth: Accidents, sports injuries, or biting on something hard can cause teeth to chip or break. Emergency dental care is necessary to prevent further damage.
Knocked-Out Tooth: When a tooth is completely knocked out, immediate action can sometimes save it. An emergency dentist can attempt to re-implant the tooth if treated promptly.
Lost or Damaged Dental Filling or Crown: Losing a filling or crown can cause significant discomfort and leave your tooth vulnerable to further damage.
Abscessed Tooth: A dental abscess is a serious condition that can result in severe pain, swelling, and infection, potentially leading to life-threatening complications if left untreated.
Gum and Soft Tissue Injuries: Injuries to the gums, tongue, or cheeks, especially if bleeding is persistent, should be evaluated by an emergency dentist.
If you experience any of these conditions, it’s essential to seek treatment immediately to prevent further complications.
Why Visit an Emergency Dentist Office in Scarborough?
Finding an emergency dentist office in Scarborough is critical when you're dealing with a dental crisis. The Tooth Corner, located in Scarborough, offers professional emergency dental services to address urgent oral health issues and provide the care you need, precisely when you need it.
At an emergency dentist office, you can expect:
Immediate Diagnosis: Emergency dentists prioritize quick assessments to determine the root cause of the problem. X-rays and other diagnostic tools may be used to evaluate the issue and create a treatment plan.
Pain Relief: The first step in most emergency dental visits is to alleviate pain and discomfort. Dentists may provide medication, temporary fillings, or other immediate treatments to stabilize your condition.
Preventing Further Damage: Addressing the problem promptly helps prevent further damage or complications, such as infections spreading to other parts of the body or tooth loss.
Comprehensive Treatment Plans: Once the immediate issue is resolved, emergency dentists will create a plan for any follow-up treatments, such as permanent fillings, crowns, or tooth restoration.
Whether it’s a broken tooth or a serious infection, a qualified emergency dentist in Scarborough will handle the situation with precision and care.
Finding Dental Emergencies
When you're facing a dental emergency, searching for "dental emergencies near me" is often the first step. With the availability of local dental clinics that specialize in emergency care, finding help nearby can save you time and offer peace of mind during a stressful situation.
Here's how to find reliable emergency dental services:
Online Search: Use your smartphone or computer to search for nearby emergency dental clinics. Adding your location, such as "Scarborough," will help refine the results to local providers.
Clinic Websites: Many dental clinics, including The Tooth Corner, provide detailed information about their emergency services on their websites. You can check for hours of operation, services offered, and contact information to determine which clinic is closest and available.
Word of Mouth: Ask friends, family, or colleagues for recommendations. Personal referrals can often point you toward trusted providers who offer high-quality care.
Call for Help: Contact the clinic directly to ensure they handle dental emergencies and can accommodate you immediately. Many clinics offer same-day appointments or after-hours care.
Choosing an emergency dentist that is close to your location ensures you can receive the care you need promptly, especially when time is of the essence.

No matter the type of dental emergency you’re facing, their goal is to restore your oral health and prevent any long-term damage.
How to Prepare for a Dental Emergency
Being prepared for a dental emergency can make a significant difference in how you handle the situation. Here are a few tips to help you manage until you can reach an emergency dentist:
Save the Tooth or Fragment: If a tooth is knocked out or broken, try to preserve the tooth or fragments. Place them in a container with milk or saline to keep them moist until you can see a dentist.
Control Bleeding: Use a clean cloth or gauze to apply pressure to any bleeding areas.
Alleviate Pain: Over-the-counter pain relievers, cold compresses, and rinsing with saltwater can help reduce pain and swelling until you can get professional care.
Dental emergencies are unexpected and can be highly stressful, but having a trusted emergency dentist office in Scarborough and knowing where to search for dental emergencies near me ensures that you are prepared to address any oral health issues quickly and effectively.
With the support of skilled professionals like those at The Tooth Corner, you can rest easy knowing your emergency will be handled with care, allowing you to return to normal activities with minimal disruption. Don’t wait to seek treatment—your dental health depends on swift and professional care.

This is something I wrote while waiting in the dentist appointment I had today.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I cried during the ride at home the only way they taught me: in utter silence.
I feel so ashamed, despaired, broken, like a monster, so frickin ugly and a joke. In that chair I felt so naked and all I wanted was to cry, because I felt so so so much shame.
I'm crying and I feel ridiculous about it, but I can't stop and I don't know why and that makes me anguish.
Someone help me.
