I had the great fortune of finishing Camp Demascus before going to Queer Camp over the weekend, and while the absolute contrast of it made my heart soar, I thought I should share that so many people did happy flappy hands when I told them your book includes romantic co-stimming. Love is so, so real.
ROMANTIC CO STIMMING heck yeah

SSO Theory: The Fridge Doors and the Secret of Underground Jorvik
I'm stating up front, some of this is fact, some is educated guesswork, do with that what you will! Now, onto the theorizing!
Underground Jorvik is a mysterious place; collapsed mines, fridge doors, volatile minerals, strange noises at night; something strange is happening beneath our feet, and I might know what…
The Nightmare Institute!
The faction of Dark Core run by Darko, responsible for the creation of dark horses and other monsters.
The Nightmare Institute is mentioned only in fleeting moments that don't give away its size or location.
Now, let's put a pin in that for a moment and move onto the strange things happing beneath Jorvik!
First off, every mining operation on Jorvik seems to end in disaster. The Demascus Mine? Collapsed! The Silverglade Mine? Collapsed! The old Deep Core Mine? Collapsed!
The most recent mining attempt we're aware of on the island is GED's attempt to mine Drakonium in Old Hillcrest, which resulted in the entire town being abandoned and half their workers mysteriously vanishing.
In addition to all of these catastrophic mining attempts we also have the fridge doors! Do these things even need an introduction at this point? Four (but probably five) hatches in the ground spread throughout our in-game map whose positions seem to align with the points of a star, which is also one of the two symbols depicted on the hatches? These doors are hecka weird on every level!/pos They're unexplained. We've never been able to interact with them. The second symbol on them doesn't match anything else in the game. Spooky music plays when we approach them. At night beams of light come out of their windows. And some kind of machinery can be heard coming from them. They're weird!
There's one more oddity about them I haven't seen anyone mention. This conversation with Emma during the Purple Pony's Halloween party in 2018.
Considering that there's a fridge door in Golden Hills, near the racetrack, I assume this is what Emma is referring to! The creature she's describing sounds like a capran, remember this!
So, now we have two mysteries. Where is the Nightmare Institute and what's going on underground? I think one line of dialogue could be the answer to both these mysteries: they're the same mystery!
When we speak with Valdemar Buttergood in the One of Our Witches questline he mentions his son Scott believing in "secret tunnels beneath Jorvik connecting to an institute of corrupt creatures."
While some of Scott's paranormal beliefs have come across as outlandish, this feels far more credible than the usual moth-horse and Bighoof. We already know an institute exists that seemingly deals with "corrupt creatures," we just didn't know where. Likewise, we knew something was going on underground thanks to the presence of the fridge doors, local reports of strange sounds from underground, and numerous mining operations being plagued by misfortune.
But there's still a question left unanswered; what makes underground Jorvik so special?
The Nightmare Institute explains the strange sounds and Emma's monster (capran?) sighting by the Golden Hills hatch, but what about the minerals and gasses?
This is where my theory turns into speculation.
We know Jorvik is a volcanic island thanks to Garnok's Fury, meaning the island could potentially be riddled with lava tubes. Garnok's Fury is implied to be magical (Pandorian?) in nature, so I feel safe in assuming that its lava probably is as well.
If this is true it could explain everything. Lava tubes forged by mystical energy would probably be imbued with the same energy, explaining the dangerous minerals and gasses and possibly the presence of so-called "corrupt creatures." From all of the magical horses and companion pets in-game we know that prolonged exposure to magical energy can corrupt, or at least alter, wildlife, meaning whatever creatures took up residence in the lava tubes could be very strange. And we know GED has at least one dangerous creature on their hands in Hillcrest!
In the days of Deep Core's early mining operations, they likely discovered not only the tubes and how extensive they are, but also the strange minerals and creatures. I imagine that if this theory is true these tubes are probably an invaluable resource that Dark Core has been exploiting for YEARS! Dark Core has so many weird serums and pieces of tech, they've likely been utilizing their discoveries in the lava tubes and taking advantage of no one else has had success mining under Jorvik. Heck, Dark Core might even be deliberately sabotaging other mining attempts to monopolize whatever might be down there! GED's efforts in Hillcrest might have just slid under their radar because of them being too busy with their preparations for the reverse light ceremony!
Have I gotten too carried away with idea?/lh
This theory just makes SO much sense to me! I hope someone else finds it interesting and thank you for reading!

i gotta..talk abt barnabas. hold up uhh rambling under the cut
so barnabas in the og campaign i played him in got this scar that i absolutely love from being infected by a fractal-like alien and his body got ripped open from one of his eyes down to his stomach when his companions were attempting to remove the infection. the scar was this damascus-esque texture that ran across his body where he had been split open.
i want him to have this in bg cause i just find it the coolest thing ever (and he could do insanely advanced math/science after having gained the scar) so i was thinking that when he was around 16/17, he was feeling rather rebellious and wanted to travel outside of candlekeep for once so he snuck out one night, wanting to at least explore the closest town by himself
on his short-lived journey, barnabas stumbled upon a semi active ritual circle deep within the forest and decided to check it out. upon further investigation he discovered that it was some sort of sealed gate spell, similar to ones he’d seen in advanced grimoires. taking a closer look, barnabas accidentally tripped into the circle and it began to glow and flow with arcane energy.
in mere seconds, a portal flashed in front of him and he looked inside to see what appeared to be an abandoned cityscape; flora having taken over well crafted buildings and cobblestone streets. but he also saw a creature climb over the walls of the buildings, something alien and unexplainable at first (he would later draw a rendition of this creature within his notebook and it resembled simply a square shaped monster with several limbs and claw-like hands but no orifices to be seen).
upon gazing at the creature a few hundred feet away, barnabas felt suddenly dizzy, sick, and fatigued enough to immediately pass out but wake up mere seconds later to the sound of thumping limbs running toward him. in his haze, barnabas scrambled to run away and as he exited to ritual circle, the portal closed a moment before the horrific monster could reach him.
walking back to candlekeep was far more exhausting than barnabas could have expected even for someone as un-athletic as him and he soon passed out once more nearly a mile away from the castle walls. luckily, guards had found him in the early hours of the morning and brought him back and immediately took him to the infirmary.
barnabas awoke a few hours later, being tended to by healers and mages alike, attempting to figure out this affliction he held within his eyes; his eyes were riddled with fractals swirling in the cornea and the surrounding skin was pulsing with red lichtenberg figures as well. they all came to the conclusion that barnabas needed his eyes replaced with a set of arcane spheres that would work just as good, if not better than his natural eyes.
as they were attempting to take one of barnabas’s eyes, something within him reacted in defense and from his right eye, down to the lower half of his stomach, a void ripped forth, red fractal figures as deep as the abyss were within him and barnabas screamed in utter horror and pain. gorion had been in the infirmary, looking after barnabas alongside the healers and with some quick thinking and a telekinesis spell, ripped both of barnabas’s infected eyes from his body. once he had done that, the void closed itself and left barnabas with the demascus textured scar from where the infection had ripped him asunder.
this experience drove his ambition for knowledge even further, wanting to find out what this creature that infected him was and where it came from and made him decide on becoming a transmutation focused wizard, wanting to be able to control every aspect of not only his life but the material plane around him
side note: when he turns into his slayer form, the scar rips back open and reveals that fractal filled void :)

Moonhaven Season 2 hope??! <3
https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/amc-demascus-canceled-1235480973/
‘’Dolan previously warned AMC staffers about significant cutbacks at the company in a memo following Spade’s exit. “We are primarily a content company and the mechanisms for the monetization of content are in disarray,” he wrote at the time. Dolan also spoke of “a large-scale layoff as well as cuts to every operating area of AMC Networks” that would be implemented. To that end, AMC’s unscripted chief Marco Bresaz exited, while AMC also reversed its decision to renew the drama series “Moonhaven” for a second season.
However, it is possible the scrapped shows could find life on other platforms, as AMC stated in the SEC filing “The Company may realize some future licensing and other revenue associated with some of the owned titles.” ‘’
Also this news: https://deadline.com/2023/01/61st-street-shopped-around-following-amc-cancelation-1235213359/
The series also starred Vance, Jerod Haynes, Holt McCallany, Aunjanue Ellis, Killian Scott, Mark O’Brien, and Andrene Ward-Hammond.
Deadline previously confirmed Moonhaven was being pulled following an early second-season renewal. The series, which was set to star Tatiana Maslany, Ngozi Anyanwu, and Pilou Asbæk, had shot some of its first season.

I don't think that this is a very good way to view the past, things have changed, but a lot of them have changed for a reason and we often tend to view the past through rose tinted glasses. That's not to say everything that's being used now is an improvement, but that's usually not a function of not knowing how, but rather a function of companies doing whatever they can to cut costs and do things cheaply.
To go down the list, many types of concrete we have now is stronger than roman concrete, which we do know how to make thanks to recent advancements in materials fields and research. However, roman concrete has some self-healing properties that coupled with a mostly ideal climate have made it very long lasting. Roman concrete is more durable, but it isn't stronger. It also doesn't work well in every climate, and there's reasons to use it or not to use it.
Damascus steel was great for it's time and all that, but several types of modern steel well outperform it in any category. Plenty of people have also made modern recreations of Demascus steel, so we can still do that if we feel a need to.
Stradivari violins aren't actually better instruments than other well-made violins. That's a long held myth that's been disproved time and time again by blind experiments from all the way back in the 1800s. In fact, a number of studies have shown that audiences tend to prefer modern violins for having better sound carrying quality. Expert players can't actually tell apart when playing either. The idea that Stradivari violins have some magic to them is mostly marketing.
We also haven't really lost technology from the Apollo or Gemini missions. While hardware has been discarded, it's because it wasn't useful anymore and for stuff that was useful, most of it was preserved. Almost none of the previous technology would fit in to modern plans and materials, so most of it wouldn't be of much use anyways. Technology has advanced, and methods of travel have to advance too. Even space travel.
Finally, that motherfucker above would be literally worse than a backpack to have to live out of. It's a steamer trunk, which means it's meant to be stored for a long period as you took a steamboat somewhere. They're very heavy, and good luck trying to get anywhere with that.
If you actually want a suitcase that turns into a dresser, those already exist in the modern day and they're much easier to use and they don't weigh 30 lb.
Again, this isn't to say that everything is rosy in the modern world. But that has very little to do with inability, and a lot more to do with a the profit motives of companies not aligning with the idea of giving people the best possible thing that they are capable of creating. We have the ability to be doing better. It is not beyond us.

Got spawn rushed by a team. Took them out. One starts crying about "camping" when they're the ones who backed me into a corner quite literally. He pleads and cries about wanting his demascus tags back. Tell him no. He needed to learn a lesson. Then he cries in chat and tries to get the lobby after me. Didn't work out for any of them either.
