National Conference Takes Aim at Mehbooba Mufti's Home Turf with LS Candidate Pick
The National Conference (NC) has thrown down the gauntlet by selecting Mian Altaf Ahmed Lahrvi, a seasoned MLA and Gujjar religious leader, as its candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat – the very constituency belonging to NC's alliance partner, Mehbooba Mufti of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Lahrvi's nomination signals NC's intent to contest all three Lok Sabha seats in the Kashmir Valley, putting a spotlight on the future of the Peoples Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration (PAGD).
Tumblr media
With a political landscape reshaped by recent delimitation exercises, the Anantnag-Rajouri seat now spans across diverse demographics, encompassing Kashmiri Muslims as well as the Gujjar and Pahari communities. By fielding Lahrvi, the NC hopes to appeal to the Gujjar community while potentially challenging the traditional stronghold of Valley-based parties in the region.
This move sets the stage for a riveting electoral showdown, especially considering the BJP's aspirations to expand its footprint in Kashmir. With intricate constituency dynamics and the evolving political narrative, the battle for Anantnag-Rajouri promises to be one to watch.
As the PDP mulls its electoral strategy amidst shifting alliances and dynamics, the stage is set for a compelling electoral saga in one of Jammu and Kashmir's most consequential constituencies.

DELIMITATION
Tumblr media
The article highlights the Topic of Delimitation, which focuses on restructuring the electoral participation, seats in Lok Sabha, the lower house of the parliament, and much more. Rishabh has penned this important article for the current affairs section under the supervision of our experienced faculty Dr. Bijendra Kumar Jha.
The most recent delimitation exercise in India took place in 2002. However, this exercise focused solely on redrawing the boundaries of constituencies and did not result in an increase in the number of Lok Sabha constituencies. Consequently, the number of Lok Sabha constituencies has remained unchanged since 1976.
According to the Constitution, the next delimitation exercise should be based on the first Census conducted after 2026, which is 25 years after the 84th Amendment Act of 2001. Typically, this would imply that delimitation should occur after the 2031 Census. However, the 2021 Census was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Students can upgrade their current affairs knowledge by reading the current affairs news through the mentioned menu of the Plutus IAS website

South Will Not Suffer Over Delimitation, Sources Say Amid Population Concern
Tumblr media
New Delhi: The government will be considerate of the fact the southern states have successfully managed to control their population and so should not suffer during delimitation, top sources indicated today amid a bitter battle in parliament over the women's reservation bill.Fears of southern parties that South India will be penalised for early population policies by an impact on their seats, will be allayed, sources told NDTV.  The huge population in the north ensures that they will get more seats and there are concerns that the south will be under-represented.The government understands that concern and will do the needful, sources said. The government is trying to push through the bill -- meant to reserve 33 per cent seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies -- in the ongoing special session of Parliament. But the reservation can only be implemented after a census and delimitation exercise. After next year's election, a Delimitation Commission will be formed. It will be a democratic exercise with representatives from all parties, sources said. The census will be carried out alongside. Even so, the implementation of the women's quota can begin only after 2029.Under Article 82 of the Constitution, only the Census data after 2026 can be used for the delimitation exercise. There is no clarity yet on how the government plans to cross that hurdle. The last delimitation exercise took 18 months, had over 211 meetings with public hearings in every state. In the seven-hour debate in the new parliament today, the opposition parties demanded that the bill be implemented without any delay.Opening the debate, Sonia Gandhi underscored that the initiative for the bill was taken under the UPA government."How many years will they (women) have to wait... two... four... eight? Is this right? Congress demands the bill be implemented immediately," she said, calling for reservation for women from SC, ST and OBC communities. Delaying this would be gross injustice to women," she added. The 2010 bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha but could not be  presented in Lok Sabha following opposition from Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Janata Dal -- a point that has provided ammunition to the BJP. okay btw uh. is it normal to do the thing i'm gonna describe or could it be perhaps a bit of a symptom of something. so:
i regularly encounter an elevator that needs you to keep the button to your desired floor pressed the whole time the elevator moves. i noticed that when my dad presses the button, he scrunches up his face and screws his eyes shut like he's in pain, for like five seconds at least. i've noticed it's something i do too, when i have to wait like for my computer to boot up or for someone whose door i've knocked on to answer. i squeeze my eyes, clench my jaw or grind my teeth, drop my head so that it pulls on neck/shoulder muscles, usually i'm also clenching my fists or gripping whatever i have in my hands. is it like. a thing that people do.

Stanford Pines, my favorite scientist who just doesn’t know what safety measures are. If I worked with him I wouldn’t leave him ALONE unti he took all the precautions.
Though now that I think about it… where would he get nitrile gloves?? I’ll give him a pass I guess… but you’re still missing your safety goggles

[ID: Two screenshots of text only, together reading (with typos):
a very wise woman gave me a piece of advice. She told me to start a journal. In the morning, she said, write down the percentage that I felt I was that day. 20% Maggie. 90% Maggie. Then I should write down what I accomplished that day. I thought at this point she was going to tell me to admire how much I'd gotten done each day despite M a being ill. I didn't want that, I didn't need a pep talk. I needed my brain. But that wasn't what she said. She told me: write down what you've managed to do on a 20% day, what you've managed to do on a 40% day. Eventually you'll have a guide so when you wake up and you're at 20%, you won't try to do the things you do on a 40% day. You'll know you can just go watch a movie or sit with your goats or whatever and not feel guilty, because you were never going to write words you could keep or be able to exercise or whatever. And that was the right way. It meant I no longer labored for 12 hours each day, doing nothing but trying to smash my way through a draft. Instead I slowly began to write bits and bobs in on my good days. A funny thing happened then: once I was not spending every second forcing myself to do things I couldn't, I found I had enough energy to actually start to work on myself. To look for patterns in my good and bad days. To research healthcare providers and new studies on what was wrong with me still. Slowly I found I was able to chain more of the 60% days together, then 80% days. Slowly I began to realize that although it was taking months, I was improving overall.

I've seen this before, but it's been years and it just came across my Twitter in its dying days. The words are from a favorite author of mine, Maggie Stiefvater, and they are the words I most need to hear when it comes to dealing with chronic pain and illness. I didn't need this the first time I saw it, six years ago. I need it now. Maybe you do, too.
