The Jolly Boy's Explosive Coach Outing | Only Fools and Horses
The Jolly Boys’ Outing was definitely one of Only Fools & Horses’ best episodes. This scene alone is comedy gold.

Conversation
Cassandra: Roddy is too tall for me to kiss him, what should I do?
Del: Punch him in the stomach, then kiss him when he’s doubled over in pain.
Trigger: Tackle him.
Marlene: Kick him in the shin.
Boycie: Dump him.
Rodney: NO TO ALL OF THOSE, JUST ASK ME TO LEAN DOWN!

1/3/2024
I was watching an episode of Only Fools and Horses in which Rodney gained the ability to fly. He wanted to use this power to fight crime, which Del was OK with as long as he didn't stop any of the criminals who supplied his business. It ended with Rodney being the mascot for a supermarket Del had invested in instead. And no, he wasn't wearing the Robin costume from that one real episode; for some reason he was wearing the costume from The Greatest American Hero.
I don't know why I'm having dreams about old British sitcoms lately, but there was also one I had years ago where I was playing a game of Civilization V and a new civ spawned in the game that I'd never seen before. After following the Scout back to their capital I discovered that it was ruled by Hyacinth Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances.

‘They’re treating us like thieves’: Rio de Janeiro traders rage as historic flea market shuts
Feira de Acari is closed down by the mayor after claims that gangsters used it to sell stolen goods
Tumblr media
Manoel Ribeiro has never known a world without Rio de Janeiro’s best-known flea market, the Feira de Acari.
The swarming suburban bazaar was founded outside his home in 1970, the year of his birth. It existed in 1993 when the market trader was shot nearby during an armed robbery and lost the use of his legs.
And, until last month, it continued to thrive – a Sunday institution famed for its suspiciously low prices and immortalised in songs by celebrated Brazilian musicians. “The Feira de Acari is a success. It has everything. It’s a mystery,” the singer-songwriter Jorge Ben Jor sang in one hit.
If Derek “Del Boy” Trotter – the fictional wheeler-dealer from the British comedy Only Fools and Horses – had been born in Rio, it would have been here that he plied his trade.
But as dawn broke two weeks ago, the Acari street market was nowhere to be seen after Rio’s mayor, Eduardo Paes, ordered a sudden end to its half-century existence.
“It’s unbelievable,” said Ribeiro, 53, as he drove his motorised wheelchair to the market where he has worked for over 40 years.
Instead of wooden stalls stacked with merchandise and secondhand clothes, Ribeiro found dozens of police officers and guards carrying riot guns and rifles. The canine unit had deployed two Belgian shepherd dogs to keep angry traders at bay.
City hall justifies the clampdown by claiming gangsters had commandeered the market, using it to peddle stolen goods. “The market was known as ‘robauto’ [auto-theft],” said Rio’s public order secretary, Brenno Carnevale, a former police chief tasked with shutting it down.

I will not be having this marxio bros disrespect, stop hating on my funny electricians/j
Seriously, tho, aside from just the obvious mario parody, I find grouchio's sass and sarcasm funny. But I can understand that the base joke of the Mario bros mixer with the Marx Bros could get kinda old quick
Yeah, I'm absolutely giving my thumbs up to people who find them funny, they're just not for me. I do think Grouchio is the most entertaining of the bunch tho! It just makes me wish they'd been based on the Trotters instead - Grouchio & Chico already have that Del Boy & Rodney dynamic, the third guy doesn't do much anyway, and it'd make the Brit pop culture reference more direct. Plus you could've made them pigs But it's easy for me to sit here years later and say things like that. Hell, if StC had been a bit later, you couldn't had them be based on Jim & Anthony Royale - this kind of duo just works and appears a lot in British media. I'm just not a massive fan of the Mario/Marx bros flavour these guys had

Only Fools And Horses actor Michael Jayston dies aged 88
Michael Jayston, who appeared in Only Fools And Horses, has died aged 88 after “a short illness”, his agent said on Monday.
A statement from his agent M&M Famous Faces said: “It is with great sadness that I have been asked by his family to share the news Michael Jayston sadly passed away this morning after a short illness.
“Those who knew Michael will know he was full of love, laughs and happiness. He adored meeting his fans all over the world.
“His family and friends would appreciate privacy at this time.”
The British actor played the father of Rachel “Raquel” Turner (Tessa Peake-Jones), love interest of Derek “Del Boy” Trotter (Sir David Jason) in the BBC sitcom.
In the episode Time On Our Hands, antiques dealer James tells Del Boy and his brother Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) that a watch in their garage was made by clockmaker John Harrison and is worth a fortune - leading to an auction where they become millionaires.

What are some British TV shows you just won't understand unless you've lived in the UK?
British TV shows often carry a unique cultural context that may be challenging to fully grasp without some familiarity with British society, humor, and references. Here are a few examples:
Only Fools and Horses: This classic sitcom revolves around the lives of two brothers, Del Boy and Rodney Trotter, who live in Peckham, South London, and their various get-rich-quick schemes. Understanding the nuances of working-class London life and the particular humor of the characters can be key to fully appreciating this show.
The Thick of It: A political satire revolving around the inner workings of the British government, particularly focusing on the Department of Social Affairs and Citizenship. The rapid-fire dialogue, profanity, and cynical view of politics may be difficult to fully understand without some familiarity with British politics and bureaucracy.
Peep Show: A comedy series filmed from the perspective of the characters, often delving into their inner thoughts and insecurities. The show's humor relies heavily on awkward situations and social faux pas, which may resonate more with those familiar with British social norms and urban life.
Gavin & Stacey: This sitcom follows the long-distance relationship between Gavin from Essex and Stacey from Barry in Wales, along with their quirky friends and family members. Understanding the regional accents and cultural differences between England and Wales can enhance the viewing experience.
Blackadder: A historical sitcom that spans multiple periods, following the misadventures of the various incarnations of Edmund Blackadder and his dimwitted sidekick, Baldrick. Appreciating the show's clever wordplay, historical references, and satire of British history requires some familiarity with both British history and comedic traditions.
These are just a few examples, but many more British TV shows may require a certain level of cultural understanding to fully appreciate.

5 facts about Shareen Costello:
Tumblr media
The genesis behind Shareen came from binge-watching the RTD-era during lockdown and noticing the numerous mentions Rose makes of Shareen, which got me thinking about what if Shareen actually showed up and met the Doctor. This idea lingered at the back of my mind for some time and in 2022 I finally decided to make it happen.
When planning Shareen, I went through several different ideas for her face claim. Alexandra Daddario, Phoebe Tonkin and Holland Roden were favourites for a while before I ultimately settled on Victoria Moroles. The choice of Victoria came from watching her as Hayden Romero in Teen Wolf. I imagined Shareen to be very feisty and street-wise, so I felt that Victoria was a good choice for such a character.
Shareen's catchphrase of "Cosmic" comes from Only Fools & Horses. Rodney Trotter had a tendency to say "Cosmic", usually in a sarcastic sense when things went pear-shaped and I felt that Shareen would've watched that classic British comedy while growing up and so would start quoting it. She's also called people "Plonkers" a few times, which is an insult Del Boy tended to use. In fact, it runs in the family, as Shareen's sister Zara once called the Doctor a "Wally", which is another insult Del tended to use.
Shareen's spiky relationship with the Doctor came about because I wanted to do something different from the usual characterisation of Doctor Who OCs, who tend to be love interests for the Doctor and worship the ground he walks on. It provides for an interesting contrast with Rose, who was always sucking up to the Doctor, especially in series 2. Shareen is very much cut from the same cloth as Donna, which made writing them together in series 4 so much fun!
Shareen's interest in football comes from the euphoria surrounding England's victory at the 2022 Women's Euro Cup. The Lionesses' victory inspired me to give Shareen an interest in football. This has come up several times in her series; she and Mickey participated in a match just after the events of Aliens of London/World War Three, she left off some steam at the end of Gridlock by practising her goals in the TARDIS, she offered to play a match with Jethro in Midnight and she played a match with Mickey after the Doctor dropped her off on Earth after series 4. Perhaps the 11th Doctor's football skills came from his previous incarnation's time travelling with Shareen! For the record, Shareen's favourite team is Crystal Palace.
