Okay so the one and only time I've seen the Wicked musical was live on stage, and that's the only context I have for the whole entire show. So if that particular stage show made any artistic lisence changes to the story that other productions have done differently, I would not have known nor noticed.

Anyway that particular production had Fiyero played by a dark-skinned black guy with shoulder-length dreadlocks, and that guy was definitely loving this role, and absolutely selling it too, doing bitchy little hair flips and all. Did not leave any room for question that this is absolutely the pretty boy prince that all the girls fight over. All things are as they should be - I am enjoying the show and every single gut punch plot twist that I 100% did not see coming because I've never seen or heard this one before.

And then like two or three years later I'm seeing the first gifsets of the movie version on my tumblr dash, and had to take a minute to actually process that this is supposed to be the same character. Like that's not the prettyboy prince. That is not how he looks. Put him back.

FINALLY a post on tumblr that doesn't just shit on parents. I wanted to add that just like children get scared and embarrassed when they're disciplined, parents also feel that way when they're in public around people who are seemingly judging them and their family—especially for more marginalized families who face greater threat of separation. I guarantee most of the advice they get from strangers when their child is melting down in public is to "get them under control." Like we've all seen a video of some dick on a plane yelling at a parent with a crying baby, or complaining that they have to sit next to someone with a toddler. Oftentimes because of that interactions in public are can escalate in ways they wouldn't at home. Tiktok and Youtube are also just chalk full of terrible and judgemental parenting advice right now about how children should ideally be little drill sergeants who clean up everything, never get loud, and only ever speak respectfully, and if your children don't act like that, you must be a monster. The best thing you can do for a parent having a difficult time in public, is speak kindly and let them know there's nothing wrong at all if they need a breather—and that you can support them if they need that. ALSO this is especially especially double especially true for parents with a crying baby in the five month range. Five months is usually marked by a developmental change where babies will marathon cry for hours and hours. Most parents don't realize it's a normal developmental marker and assume it's something they can stop or control—and infants at five months during this crying period are at increased risk for Shaken Baby Syndrome—usually caused by a parent stress response. Definitely offer help and support to these parents, like holding a baby while they shop or offering to watch them if they need a minute to go outside to escape the noise. Also let them know that prolonged crying is normal, and that it's okay if they ever need to just put a baby in their crib for a little bit and go somewhere quiet. Easing a parent's stress and offering support goes a long way towards not only helping them, but also helping their children.

With recent news that bsky doesn't want gore on their platform/any other Problematic art, it's sad that tumblr really is one of the last places we can go- And even that feels shaky, with accounts disappearing all the time. Tumblr really is my preferred social media, but its one that's built with paperclips and string. Tbh I wish the internet wasn't quite so Moderated now. There are definitely benefits in that less actually illegal stuff is accessible to random people browsing, but it used to be very easy to find basically any gore/guro as well as movies/shows/music for free online. Now if you want to watch a show the seafaring way you have to go to 80 sketchy sites and get viruses, and people will pay for an objectively jankier product just to have the convenience.

Now even liveleak and bestgore and BME are gone, and artists who make guro are banned from patreon etc, and saying it "promotes violence." It just doesn't. Slasher movies make millions of dollars and we've accepted they aren't going to end society, so why should small independent artists not be given the same freedom? Why is it assumed that they are evil and actively harmful, just because they don't have studio funding?

The continued hatred of anything deemed icky and freaky is a trend that you should be worried about because the definition of what people deem icky or freaky is always subject to change and one day it might just include you or something you love. The censorship of gore is a slippery slope to a larger problem.

I think I can ? maybe ? By linking @clarekirener 's great analysis of the Amazon accounts' activities on social media. There's this post and this other post, if my memory serves well.

Amazon has been baiting the Haladriel shippers ever since the finals came out. It may mean nothing for the future, of course. It's definitely not a guarantee that we'll have (good) Haladriel content in season 3. But imho, it shows that they consider the Haladriel shippers as a huge part of their audience, because otherwise they wouldn't lose their time on us.

Now, take it as you will. All I can say is that the people on Tumblr/Twitter/Reddit who "predict" that Galadriel is now done with Sauron and won't interact with him anymore, or will interact very little with him... They don't run, write or produce the show. They're just giving their personal opinion on the matter, what they feel will/should happen after season 2. No more.

As fas as I'm concerned, the fact that Amazon keeps baiting shippers is 'hope' that they want the show to feature more Haladriel than season 2 did, because they want the money and they seem to believe that Haladriel shippers will give them money if they get what they want. Now, it's possible I'm completely delusional and that they're just wasting money having fun trolling us, idk !

And no I don't think you're wrong or dumb, and I hope you will stick around at least until season 3 comes out :)

A few new thoughts + theories about obxanon and Rudy's departure

I keep seeing the same angry, recycled theories on obxtwitter without a lot of critical thought, which like fine, people are mad, I get it. But I've been really trying to take my emotions out of the situation and just consider how this could realistically have happened, and I have a few theories that I want to put out there.

I think #obxanon is Lilah Pate, OR someone very very close to Lilah or the Pates. Why do I think this? For one, #obxanon mentions Lilah far too much. Like I'm sorry, she's just not that important lol. She's a nepotism baby riding on daddy's coattails, and she was not a major player in any of the bts drama until #obxanon mentioned her specifically in their first (now deleted) post. #Obxanon also seems to know a lot about the personal relationships between cast members, far more than a crew member or a producer might know (specifically in the way they describe Rudy and Madison's history/feelings towards each other). This tells me #obxanon is someone who personally spent time with the cast, especially in the s1 era. Finally, in a previous post, I've talked about how #obxanon is very bias against Rudy and for the Pates. I believe SOME of the facts they present (a lot of it is bullshit and opinions), but I think whoever is behind that account has personal anger towards Rudy and Elaine, especially Elaine. #Obxanon mentioned personal conflict between Elaine, the Pates, and LILAH. Why is that even important? Because Lilah thinks she's important, and Lilah is #obxanon.

2. In saying this, I think #obxanon's first post in August leaking JJ's death was an intentional move by the Pates (and maybe Netflix) to sus out how audiences would feel about JJ dying. I just can't believe that Netflix/HR wouldn't be cracking down on every single person who could know this information if they weren't already allowing it to be leaked. Like the first post? Huge leak of insider info. But ok, JJ death theory was gently leaked during Morocco filming so maybe not a drastic break of HR policy. But the second post after s4 part 2 dropped? And continuing to post answers to fan questions up until very recently? There's just no way. Someone would be getting sued. A crew member would be out of the job. The Pates would be putting a stop to it. Unless it was intentional. Unless it was Lilah. Who wanted to

a. gently prepare audiences for JJ's death,

b. get a feel for how angry people would be, so they could edit/prepare to launch their bullshit PR "he was always gonna die" statement,

c. know whether they should renew the show for 1 or 2 more seasons, depending on how much viewership would be lost,

d. maybe even try to convince/guilt-trip Rudy into changing his mind based off of fan response? And if that last ditch effort didn't work,

e. proactively shift the blame onto Rudy to redirect fan outrage, meaning the writers/showrunners could take slightly less heat.

The show getting renewed for a 5th and final season BEFORE part 2 dropped and all hell broke loose? This tells me that they had a solid idea of how bad it might be and opted out of the original 6 season plan. They probably didn't know it would be THIS bad lol, but clearly the writers have their heads up their own asses and don't know how shit they actually are, so they underestimated big time.

And before people start saying this is a conspiracy and couldn't be PR, I really wouldn't underestimate how involved marketing teams can be, especially for a high budget #1 show on Netflix. The Pates mention all the time how they read and monitor fan feedback. Like, if the obx twitter account can interact with fans the way they do? They can definitely be sneaky about leaking info on tumblr through an anonymous yet extremely, SUSPICIOUSLY informed source.

And finally,

3. I think the reasons for Rudy leaving (and I absolutely believe that he left) are far more complicated than simply "Elaine was jealous." I think the way he handled it was messy and shitty and immature, but I've tried to theorize WHY and I've come up with a few intersecting reasons. I want to preface this with I DON'T ACTUALLY KNOW. But I like trying to understand people's decisions, it makes them more human to me and allows me to move forward with empathy rather than anger. So here's what I think:

a. He and Madison were previously FWB. I can't pretend to know the timeline or why it ended. But it happened sometime in 2019/2020 and Elaine was unaware of this (or at least how strong the feelings involved were) until later on in her and Rudy's relationship. Elaine not knowing about their fwb arrangement is alluded to in multiple Deuxmoi blinds over the years. Just feels too consistent to not have some truth to it. I can see how finding this out could blindside Elaine, make Rudy feel ashamed and uncomfortable, and contribute to growing jealousy and tension throughout years that finally hit a breaking point. I'm not saying jealousy is acceptable, especially because portraying a believable Jiara romance was Rudy and Madison's JOB. Obviously the healthiest decision is either break up or make peace with it. But I think this could at least explain why Jiara upset Elaine so much. She felt lied to. Also if Rudy actually cheated on Teo, that would increase Elaine's insecurity even more (once a cheater always a cheater). AND put pressure on Rudy to prove that he won't cheat on Elaine, making him all compliant and weird n shit towards Madison. The whole thing is just messy.

b. Rudy did not want to do Jiara in the first place. He didn't even sign up for it when he joined the show. Their "chemistry" in s1 was a literal representation of Rudy and Madison's chemistry in real life, likely due to their fwb arrangement. It wasn't JJ and Kiara liking each other. It wasn't planned. (I hate how Kiara asking John B "Did you tell JJ" is literally always used as proof against this, but I always saw that as Kiara not wanting to admit she actually did like John B and wanted to keep shit on the down low until they figured it out. That's totally how it's written. But the obx writers suck and don't elaborate on that ever again, so it gets misinterpreted). Regardless, fans saw their obvious chemistry and SCREAMED for JJ and Kiara to get together. They also screamed for Rudy and Madison to get together, which was probably fun until it was awkward. But Rudy literally NEVER actually liked it as a plotline. In interviews for S1 and S2, he talks about how JJ is not ready for a relationship, maaaaybe endgame could be them hinting at getting together but he just didn't think it made sense with the storyline. And Cleo was getting written in as JJ's actual love interest. And Kiara had already kissed John B AND Pope. It was not the writer's original plan, and Rudy has said that he thinks the show should not be swayed by fan desires. Except the writers are spineless and lack creativity, so instead they chose to listen to the fans and pivot their entire storyline to make Jiara happen. Which Rudy was contractually obligated to then do. Unwillingly. For 4 seasons.

c. Outside of Jiara, Rudy hated the writing on obx. And who can blame him? Everyone hated the writing on obx. The plotline has been getting more and more unrealistic and ridiculous since S1. If there was no bts drama and JJ lived and the show was renewed for 3 more seasons, season 4 would STILL be hot smelly garbage. Rudy has been getting increasingly more and more vocal in interviews about how he hates bad writing, he respects good writing, he wants to participate in art that moves people, means something, makes a difference. He basically calls out the obx writers in that Larry Moss interview for being trash. It is absolutely implied. The fan service of Jiara and the deterioration of the plot and the absolute destruction of his character JJ who he loved dearly and put so much effort into? God, that would piss me off too. Total opposition to his values. We all heard Rudy talk about JJ's storyline in S1 interviews as a nod to trauma survivors and how respectfully he tried to portray that. Only to have the writers not give 2 shits about any of that. I can totally see why he stopped giving a shit too. By s3 interviews, he literally repeats "my job is to do what the writers tell me" over and over. Dude was done long before asking to leave s4.

4. The final tipping point? The hate that Elaine gets. I'm not defending the girl. I think the whole conflict/tension/jealousy thing is wild. Hard to know what's actually true, but I think it's fair to say she doesn't make the healthiest choices (her launching her bikini line while Rudy is getting dragged by the media and fans?....wow.) However, the absolute visceral HATE Elaine has been getting for literal years, unwavering, unfiltered, unending? No one deserves that. Especially not for the petty shit she supposedly did (the girl posted some ignorant shit as a 17 year old on facebook in 2013. Like come on, she's not Kelly Osbourne saying Latinos only clean toilets on literal live TV). You can't make me believe that hate like that for 4 years straight on every possible social media platform wouldn't impact your mental health. You can't tell me it wouldn't make Rudy hate the fans, and hate the show, and hate social media. He would feel guilty, like it was his fault. He would want to protect her. They would both be so powerless to stop it from happening. Like, it literally killed her photography career before it could begin because her social media platforms were just bombarded with hate. And not just hate, but embarrassing, cancel culture accusations. If that was my partner getting treated like that because of my job? I think I'd leave too.

All of this combined = creates a total shitshow that Rudy probably couldn't wait to get away from. He's talented. He's passionate about acting. He likely wants to do other projects while he's still young and fit and eager. OBX contracts stopped the actors from doing any other work that conflicted with obx scheduling (filming and press). That reeeeally limits their other opportunities.

So I really can't blame the guy for leaving. I just think the way he did it was shitty. If he had just told them he wanted to leave before S4 was written and already filming, I think things could have been a lot more amicable. But I guess money complicates everything. Dude probably made a good mil a year with obx, that's hard to leave.

Soooo yea. Just my theories and thoughts. I could be totally off, a lot of it is hypothetical. But I haven't seen a lot of these theories fleshed out as people talk about everything, so thought I would add my 2 cents.

Well. I did it.. I finally did it...

I finally blocked Rhylie The Lovely Caterfly. My God, I already regret my actions, as she has been my friend since she was on DeviantArt.. But, alas, I had to do it anyway...

To begin with, one of the many reasons why people started bashing on Rhylie on Tumblr was because of all of this "independent" shit she's been trying to either hide or use to make people feel sorry for her. Little does she know, last time I checked, this is the definition of the word "independent" ⬇️

Another reason why was because Rhylie was depicting Sergio, Promni, and even Pami as villains. But why? Because they were depicting her as a villain? Well, even though Rhylie is an "angel" in the Gacha community while Pami is a "demon" at the same time, this is actually unironic, because, the reality is that Rhylie is the real demon and Pami is the real angel!

Don't believe me? Well, I remember Pami telling me in the chat that Sergio is actually a good user, and that Rhylie was villainizing him just because of his opinions on gender-specific blueberry inflation art! While I don't like blueberry inflation art (or inflation art overall), I can still handle his opinion on it. Why did I say his opinion and not her opinion, you might ask? Because I was talking about Sergio's opinion, not Rhylie's opinion!

As for Promni, I don't really know, since she blocked me when she was known as galacticsomewhat. But, Nicky, a (former) friend of Rhylie's who ended up blocking her, pointed out that Promni didn't truly do anything to her except call her out. Instead of doing some self-reflection and self-improvement, however, Rhylie decided to villainize Promni as some sort of form of "payback". But, as we might already know, payback is not for angels!

And what about Pami? Well, we should already know the history between Rhylie and Pami...

But, overall, yeah: I'm done with Rhylie. If you're still friends with you, you don't need to block her. I'm just saying that I finally blocked her.

SW Hades AU September Update

For the month of September I have for you a finished character illustration for not only one but two characters for the Hades AU! One boon giver in the form of Shaak Ti,

and Obi-wan, this grumpy old desert hermit who is still missing shading from his dusty surroundings.

But - before I go into some ramblings - let's have another poll:

And now on for the ramblings and thoughts behind the process of the art I've created this month:

One last rant about me and replicating the Hades art style

I have touched on my struggles with how I translate the Hades art style into my project in the previous update, and unfortunately the perfectionist in me refuses to let it go... so I'll muse on that a bit more in this one as well. Last time, I promise. I've come to the necessary conclusions that I'll let the topic go once I typed these out.

I found this very interesting video that I wish I'd seen before I started this project.

It is a very interesting breakdown of the Hades art style. Now I have to admit that I am very very bad at observation. Therefore I heavily rely on others pointing out patterns and defining characteristics before I can consciously start building on those on my own. For example: when I started more seriously working on this Hades AU project my main objective was to get better at lineart. The way I saw it Hades artworks had very clean and solid linearts with lots of black (thanks to another video that pointed that out as one of the 3 major definig features of the style) but if I look at it more closely the lines and shading are a lot looser, and more confident than what I ended up using.

I quite enjoy doing it, don't get me wrong, but there is an up- and downside to hunting down single pixels that are out of order (b it for lineart or shading) and 100% zoom in... which is silly and unnecessary, since I have to scale down my art quite a bit before posting anyway, so who would see anyway?

Also at this point I'm very much facing the dilemma of how much I can change in my approach to this style to still keep this entire project coherent. I'm more in favour of coherency at this point, so I'm just trying to soak up these lessons for future references.

One of these lessons was another point that was very fascinating in this video (aside from how this video picks a multiply layer approach to shading... which I had abandoned after Boba and Cobb for whatever reason?) was to point out the one dominant, more saturated colour in a character art, and how all the rest are desaturated to support that dominating character.

And I actually was very consciously trying to apply that with Shaak Ti! (I'm so proud of myself, finally incorporating a lesson into my work, look at me go!) It didn't exactly go as I'd planned, in a great deal because initially I wanted the red of her skin to be the more dominant and defining colour. But as I went about colouring in the baby clones as well I realized that the blue of her montrals and lekku would be a much better choice, and have the other redish and warmer tones of her robe and clothes, and the skin tone of the cadets to play the supporting colour role. Yet again, half my screens keep eating away the hue and saturation of my reds, but I think that this approach worked out just fine in the end. The blue-purple of her stripes, her eyes and lips look nice and pretty, and the blue in the cadet uniforms tie the entire composition of all these characters nicely together.

I'd also switched up the gem sparkle highlight colours for this one (and Obi-wan too, since they worked so well with Shaak Ti) from the very limiting base 6 fully saturated colours on others (that don't really show up in print anyways...).

And lastly why they are little ghosties in the alternate version:

Ahead of that however a brief introduction is in order. From left to right they are Ray (depicted here the last time he was biggest of the bunch), Slider (my anxious little field medic), and Goldie (my silly little goldfish who claimed the name before it could stick to Slider). For the record they all grow up just fine to join the war effort.

In this case they are more of a stand-in for all the clone cadets on Kamino, especially those who didn't get to grow up, the training of whom Shaak Ti ended up overseeing. (I don't remember if canonically there had been any of them on Kamino when the Empire destroyed their facilities.... but I'd bet that there must have been.) They deserve someone to look after them too, after all.

Also I wanted to see if I can make the Hades shade design work for me. The answer is.... eh, jury's still out, but no, not really. Luckily however, before I have to figure out if I stubbornly would want to change that, it seems like I'm done with my semi-transparent or shade clones. Wolffe is gonna be just fine, solid and grumpy as you can imagine.

Obi-wan

I don't have much to say about the grouchy old man, except that he was surprisingly easy to finish once I got over worrying about the pressure I'd put on myself because of this character illustration.

I fear to say this, but I'm pretty sure I should draw another version of him... like how Patroclus stands up from his hunched over pose and stands tall and strong and matching Achilles with his own spear once you reunite them in the game. And call on them for assistance. So I guess it would be cool if he could stand back-to-back with Cody, with his lightsaber back in his hand, and looking like someone who (allegedly) has his life together XD

Oh! There is one thing. It was a last minute change but I'm so pleased with the stained glass pieces of his teacup! It's his keepsake as well :))

Omega - a clone trooper doll, Kit - a shell and pearl, Paz - a nesting doll with a Pantoran on the inside and a Mandalorian on the outside, Shaak Ti - akul teeth, Satine - a calla lily brooch like she wears in her hair, Ahsoka - a glowing feather from Morai, Leia - Lola

Obi-wan - a fancy teacup, Quinlan - whatever is the Star Wars equivalent of a pendrive, Fennec - a handful of bullets, Sabine - airbrush, Ezra - a tooka brooch made of pebbles and snail shell, Maul - Talisman of finding (the one Savege used to find him)

Anakin - multitools, Mythosaur - a mythosaur pendant, Aphra - Spice Dice used for a variant of Sabacc, Luke - toy ship, The Armorer - her hammer

It's a bit wild to see all of them laid out like this i'm not gonna lie :D

So that's it for now. As for the next month I'm hoping to surprise-finish Aphra (like I did with Obi-wan), maybe do something about the surpirse I can maybe do for Fives and Echo and why they haven't gotten their character interaction yet, sketch out a new character and maybe start lining Bo-Katan and her gang. It should be doable, right? XD Also I promise that this was my last rant about my relationship to how I've given up replicating the game's style as close as possible. Cross my heart and all that.
