I recently re-watched both the OG The Dark Crystal film as well as the TV show. 👏👏 (Then I found the YA books of the Dark Crystal in my local bookstore, as well as figuring out there are Dark Crystal comics, so cool 🤩).

Anyways, I get a lot of inspiration from the show, so decided to make some fanart (not the most happy fanart however~) I always love drawing fairies, but never really design any villians. Really fun for me to draw the Skeksis, as it is not something I draw often. And little Deet 😭😭

Get to know the S/I!

0 – What are some of the inspirations behind your S/I? Are they exactly like you? Were they an OC? Did any of your favourite characters have any influence in their design/personality?

Ethra is basically a mixture of Deet and Brea in terms of personality. She’s extremely curious and wants to learn anything she can that isn’t available at home in the caves of Grott.

She’s essentially just an OC, but I suppose that’s what all self-inserts are at the end of the day 💖

1 – How do you come up with lore for your S/I and their relationship with your F/O? Is there any media that represents your S/I? (e.g.: a song that inspired their backstory, an episode that changed something in their lore, etc)

There was actually a rp I did a few years ago that had to do with a Gelfling being in a relationship with a Skeksis and knowing of the essence draining but not doing anything about it — she would even drink the essence as well, to sate her curiosity. I find that extremely interesting and fun, especially with the questionable and complicated relationship of the Gelfling and Skeksis.

There’s also the fact my s/i is a Grottan, the species of Gelfling that seem to be the closest to Thra. And as a species that practically spends their whole life underground, yet has someone that wants to go above ground to learn about everything, and also has a very strained relationship with the other Gelfling… where else to go but to the Skeksis, the wise and powerful Lords?

So I felt that both those ideas could be extremely interesting.

3 – Have you ever imagined any episodes or segments of your F/O's source starring your S/I? If so, what did they get up to?

I imagine Ethra venturing off to the Castle of the Crystal around the time the Skeksis first dabble in essence. So if I have to be specific, around Episode 2 or so. It’s fun to imagine Ethra just hiding away in the Scroll-Keeper’s library/quarters while everything is happening, and what she and Ok would get up to while he’s not in any important scenes.

5 – Is there any symbolism within your S/I's design that usually goes unnoticed? (e.g. colors in their outfit that reflect their personalities, their favorite flower and it's meaning, etc)

I haven’t completed her design yet so I’m not sure about this question ;3;

6 – What's the relationship dynamic between your S/I and your F/O? Be as vague or as descriptive as you'd like.

It’s an extremely intimate, er… peasant/lord, pet/master sort of dynamic. Student/teacher as well, with SkekOk not only teaching Ethra how to read and write but to also ignore everything the other Gelfling clans say negatively about the Skeksis. Eventually the relationship becomes more balanced as Ethra keeps up her curiosity and studies, and manages to get the Scroll-Keeper to learn a thing or two. Whether this is all because of SkekOk making the little Grottan into what he personally feels is right, or if he genuinely has an attraction to who she really is, remains to be seen.

Stonegrot Week (Year 3!)

ATTENTION THRALINGS...

In honor of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’s third anniversary of its release on Netflix, we’re hosting STONEGROT WEEK (YEAR 3!)

Starting Monday, September 20th — Sunday, September 26th 2021, Stonegrot Week (Year 3!) is designed to be a celebration and fun experience for Stonegrot (Rian and Deet from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) fans to submit fanfiction, artwork, headcanons, and anything related to Stonegrot and the week’s themes!

Let’s address this. Unfortunately, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was cancelled before we were able to see a second season. You never know though... The Dark Crystal film was released in 1982 and 37 years later, a prequel to the film in the form of a tv series— The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was released on Netflix. One day we might be able to see new content on screen again or we may have to continue creating our own because it’s up to us, collectively as a fandom, to keep the love and support for The Dark Crystal alive. Always. Let’s be grateful for the one phenomenal season. Let’s celebrate its characters, specifically this beautiful relationship between the Gelflings Rian and Deet.

We want to make sure that this blog is safe for everyone to enjoy, therefore Stonegrot Week will NOT accept the following submissions:

- Nonconsensual content

- Generally any work that would be associated with the four categories listed above.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to to participate in Stonegrot Week, and it isn’t mandatory to participate for the entire week, if you’d just like to submit a piece of work for one of the days you are absolutely welcome to do so!

Here are this year’s theme for the week:

September 20th — Day One: Kiss The Girl. Rian initiates a kiss with Deet. It could be their first kiss or their millionth, it’s up to you.

September 21st— Day Two: Afternoon Delight. Rian and Deet share a perfect afternoon together.

September 22nd— Day Three: The Night Before. Something special takes place one night between Rian and Deet. It could be a conversation or maybe an intimate moment. The plot is up to you.

September 23rd— Day Four: The Morning After. A follow up to Day Three’s events. What happens between Rian and Deet after The Night Before? *If you didn’t participate in Day Three, that’s okay, create something you believe would take place between Rian and Deet spending a morning together. The plot is up to you.

September 24th— Day Five: Yesterday’s Feeling. This could be a follow up to Day Four’s events, or a headcanon during an Age of Resistance episode. What were Rian and Deet feeling for one another? The plot is up to you.

September 25th— Day Six: Tomorrow’s Promise. Rian and Deet make a promise to each other. Maybe about their future together? maybe about loving and protecting each other against the Skeksis? What will it be?

September 26th— Day Seven: The Future. Create a headcanon for what you think Rian and Deet’s future looks like.

Also, just because this week centers around Rian and Deet that doesn’t mean their fellow Gelfling friends, Skeksis villains, and any others who live in Thra can’t also get involved. We want to see it all!

Remember, don’t start tagging or submitting anything until the official week has started.

Bullying or harassment of any kind will NOT be tolerated. This account was created to share the love and passion we have for this series and these characters. Everyone has their own unique style, whether it’s in writing or art form, and we are excited to highlight that.

Words cannot express how much gratitude I have for this series and this fandom. It came at one of my lowest lows and really inspired me with the beautiful return to Thra and Gelfling. This series will forever hold a dear and precious place in my heart. I am so thankful to have met so many wonderful people in this fandom, you all are awesome!

Caitriona Balfe play Claire Fraser in Outlander and Tavra in Dark Crystal but when Claire travel in Caribbean to search Ian that we was kidnapped by Gillis in Outlander book three, you realize that Vapra Clan and Sifa Clan are connected with the Grottan Clan and because Nathalie Emmanuel, the voice actress of Deet, Is Caribbean while Natalie Dorman play Onica in Dark Crystal and because Tavra and Onica are in love.
