I’m late but thought I’d share this Deet I sketched a few days ago. It has been many moons since I drew Deet- or any canon character lol

Deet is my fave of the AoR cast. Her kind and gentle nature, as well as her connection to nature made her my favorite character. I’ll never forgive Netflix for canceling the series the day after it won an Emmy and for leaving the series on a cliffhanger. I want to know what happens to Deet!!

I’m kinda happy with how this sketch turned out. The last time I drew Deet was for Stonegrot week last year and…I think I made her snoot too long lol

Stonegrot Week (Year 3!)

ATTENTION THRALINGS...

In honor of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’s third anniversary of its release on Netflix, we’re hosting STONEGROT WEEK (YEAR 3!)

Starting Monday, September 20th — Sunday, September 26th 2021, Stonegrot Week (Year 3!) is designed to be a celebration and fun experience for Stonegrot (Rian and Deet from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) fans to submit fanfiction, artwork, headcanons, and anything related to Stonegrot and the week’s themes!

Let’s address this. Unfortunately, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was cancelled before we were able to see a second season. You never know though... The Dark Crystal film was released in 1982 and 37 years later, a prequel to the film in the form of a tv series— The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was released on Netflix. One day we might be able to see new content on screen again or we may have to continue creating our own because it’s up to us, collectively as a fandom, to keep the love and support for The Dark Crystal alive. Always. Let’s be grateful for the one phenomenal season. Let’s celebrate its characters, specifically this beautiful relationship between the Gelflings Rian and Deet.

We want to make sure that this blog is safe for everyone to enjoy, therefore Stonegrot Week will NOT accept the following submissions:

- Anything above an M rating

- Gore

- Pedophilia

- Nonconsensual content

- Generally any work that would be associated with the four categories listed above.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to to participate in Stonegrot Week, and it isn’t mandatory to participate for the entire week, if you’d just like to submit a piece of work for one of the days you are absolutely welcome to do so!

Please be sure that any work submitted is new content, we would kindly like to refrain from including anything that was created any time prior to Stonegrot Week. Just like The Heretic, we love a good surprise.

Here are this year’s theme for the week:

September 20th — Day One: Kiss The Girl. Rian initiates a kiss with Deet. It could be their first kiss or their millionth, it’s up to you.

September 21st— Day Two: Afternoon Delight. Rian and Deet share a perfect afternoon together.

September 22nd— Day Three: The Night Before. Something special takes place one night between Rian and Deet. It could be a conversation or maybe an intimate moment. The plot is up to you.

September 23rd— Day Four: The Morning After. A follow up to Day Three’s events. What happens between Rian and Deet after The Night Before? *If you didn’t participate in Day Three, that’s okay, create something you believe would take place between Rian and Deet spending a morning together. The plot is up to you.

September 24th— Day Five: Yesterday’s Feeling. This could be a follow up to Day Four’s events, or a headcanon during an Age of Resistance episode. What were Rian and Deet feeling for one another? The plot is up to you.

September 25th— Day Six: Tomorrow’s Promise. Rian and Deet make a promise to each other. Maybe about their future together? maybe about loving and protecting each other against the Skeksis? What will it be?

September 26th— Day Seven: The Future. Create a headcanon for what you think Rian and Deet’s future looks like.

Also, just because this week centers around Rian and Deet that doesn’t mean their fellow Gelfling friends, Skeksis villains, and any others who live in Thra can’t also get involved. We want to see it all!

Taking extra care not to make any unnecessary creaks as he stepped in, Rian quietly entered his home through the rear entrance. In one hand was a bundle of brightly colored carnations, and in the other was a gurgling childling that he kept supported at the hip. Luckily, he didn't have to worry about him alerting Deet to their presence for Jen was quite the mellow little gelf.

"Alright Jen, just like father told you outside...." Rian spoke to him in a low tone as he carefully placed him down on the fur rug at their feet. He placed the bouquet in his chubby hands and pointed in the direction of the kitchen, where the sweet sound of his mate's lovely singing could be heard.

"Go give these to mama."

Jen let out a small chirp of understanding, moving towards the familiar lilt of his mother's voice while cradling the flowers to his chest with surprising gentleness.

At one point, he stopped just a few paces away from her, big blue eyes looking back at Rian inquisitively. He silently motioned him to keep going, his own eyes teeming with anticipation. Finally, Jen was right where he was supposed to be, tugging at his mother's skirts with the flowers where she could see them.

Deet was just in the middle of preparing her little family some early lunch, assuming the boys wouldn't be back for a little while longer. So it was only natural that she gasped softly in surprise when she happened to look down and spot her son practically glued to the wispy ends of her dress.

"Oh my goodness, what's all this?" she giggled, lifting Jen up into her arms and giving him a brief nuzzle before focusing on the large colorful petals threatening to to spill over from the parcel they were wrapped in. "Where did these come from little one?"

"We picked them this morning," Rian replied as he stepped out from his hiding spot, chuckling under his breath when Deet startled slightly at his sudden arrival. "Just for you dearest...."

"Oh Rian...."

With a smile that could outshine even the Three Brothers, Deet started to make her way over to her husband. Rian met her halfway, wrapping a strong arm around her waist and pulling her in for a smooch on the lips. He held it for a long moment, briefly perking his ears at the curious coos of his son before pulling away to whisper in her ear.

"Happy anniversary Deethra."

A Moment To Spare.

For Stonegrot Week Year 2 --> Day 3: A stolen moment between Rian and Deet

The two met each other on the stairwell. Him dragging his feet against the stone;She heading her way up, hand splayed against the round stone wall to keep her upright. Both of them were dead to the world, their eyes blood-shot from lack of sleep. They had been up all night, both planning for an up-in-coming battle. Rian had been in the courtyard of Ha’rar, drill training young ambitious gelfling who were itching to teach the Skeksis a lesson. Meanwhile, Deet had been in the armoring, her hands working away at the many materials that were needed for the smoke bombs for the battle.

The two had worked until the dawn kissed the sky. Light leeched in through the small slit-window within the stairwell, the air dry and dusty. 

The two met half-way, stopping just near each other. 

“Deet,” Rian greeted, his eyes cast forward. 

“Rian,” Deet answered back. 

“How are you, love?” Asked the Stonewood warrior. 

The Grotton stifled a yawn that was crawling up her throat. “I could be better,” She answered. “How about you?” 

“What I wouldn't give to lay in our bed. And sleep in our own sheets; Maybe even spend a few ” Rian said softly, his thick Stonewood accent showing forth. He gave a grin, but it was forced, the corners of his mouth tight. 

Deet didn't feel like giggling. Everything in her body was dumb and she wanted to be away from the dusty, cramp’d stairway. Rian could see that Deet wanted nothing to do with his joke. Sighing, he closed his eyes, placed a shoulder against the wall. Everything felt as if a weight was tied to his bones. Even in all his years of being a Skeksis guard did Rian ever felt this tired. 

“Don’t worry, Love.: He whispered. “It’ll be over soon. I promise.”

Deet said nothing. All she did was nod. 

Rian felt his heart drop. He wanted to do something. Suddenly, Rian took her hand from the wall and kissed her palm. Deet shivered at the touch of his lips against her skin. Inside her stomach, she felt the gentle rush of emotions awaken. Feeling her eyes sting and her throat tighten, she pressed her forehead to the wall. She tried to push it down, down deep into the darkest hole in her soul, but it was no use. She lets the tears fall, not bothering to wipe them away. 

Rian said nothing. All he did was hold her hand his lips, peppering her skin with kisses, hoping to keep this stolen moment going as long as he could before they parted ways.

Day 7:

Glow Spirit

Rian looked down at his glowing blue drink. He heard tales of Grotton glow spirit. It was made from herbs and flowers found down here in the caves. To the Grottons, it was supposed to taste smooth and refreshing. It would have no more effect on them than Spriton berry wine. To everyone else, well… rumor was, a non-Grotton’s night on glow spirit will end with them chewing their own face.

But, it was Mitjan’s birthday. Ever since Deet came of age, it was their tradition to stay up after Bobb’N went to bed and share a drink. This was the first special occasion Rian spent with Deet’s family. He wanted to do it right. Besides, one drink couldn’t be so bad, could it?

“It’s alright,” Deet said, putting a hand on his shoulder. “You don’t have to try it if you don’t want to.”

Ah, so he wasn’t hiding his apprehension as well as he thought. His mind went back to all the times he and Gurjin joked about glow spirit over a few brews. I heard the ranchers use it to burn tics off the landstriders. No, I heard it’s used to strip paint off carriages. I know a guy who spilled it once and it melted a hole in the table. Neither of them had actually tried it before, but they knew it by reputation and they often claimed, one day, they would.

For Rian, that day was today.

“It’s really alright,” Mitjan insisted. “We know glow spirit doesn’t go down easy for gelfling who aren’t Grotton.”

“No, please, this is your tradition. I want to participate in everything you usually do. So…” Rian lifted his cup and the others did the same. “Happy birthday, Mitjan. I wish you another good year with your lovely family. Vliya!”

“Vliya!” they repeated and clinked their glasses.

Deet and her family took a drink while Rian eased himself into it. Small sips, he told himself. Small sips, just like Drenchen moonshine.

He lifted the glass to his lips. The immediate tingling sensation was his first clue this was going to be bad. He took a sip and swallowed anyway. It burned the whole way down. He felt his face getting hot and a stinging sensation in his nose. His whole body felt like it was dissolving from the inside out. And yet, his only coherent thought was don’t be rude.

In an effort to force down a disgusted gag, he kept his mouth shut tight. He twisted his lips together and focused on keeping his eyeballs from popping out of his head while Deet and her fathers discussed the drink’s “subtle undertones” and “smooth finish.”

“Doing alright, Rian?” Lath’N asked, a laugh in his voice.

Opening his mouth took great effort. “I’m fine,” he squeaked.

“oh, sweetie…” Deet got up and kissed the top of his head. “I’ll go get you some water.”

“Great,” Rian squeaked again. He folded his arms on the table and rested his head in them. His compulsion to be polite was gone. He was too preoccupied with fighting the urge to bite off his own tongue.

Deet, miracle that she was, brought over the whole pitcher and set a cup of water down beside him. He thanked her profusely and drank it with the vigor of someone who’s been lost in the Crystal Desert for weeks.

“I’m sorry our glow spirit didn’t agree with you, Rian,” Mitjan said. “Although, we did try to warn you.”

“Admittedly not very hard,” Lath’N added, chuckling.

“Well, at least now I know,” Rian said, pouring himself another cup of water.

Deet rubbed his back. “Are you feeling better?”

He offered her a soft smile. She truly was a walking miracle. He would kiss her if he weren’t so worried he’d transfer the sting on his lips to hers. “Yes, it’s just pain. It’ll go away.” He turned his head back to Mitjan. “I hope I didn’t ruin your birthday drink too much.”

“Not at all.” Mitjan grinned. “If anything, you made it better. Although, it’s perfectly fine if you toast with water next trine.”

“Next trine?” He wasn’t sure if it was the aftereffects of the glow spirit or Mitjan’s kind words, but a warmth rose in his chest. They already assumed he’d still being her next trine. They saw no end to his time with Deet. These kind people welcomed him into their home and even their family. They trusted the strength of his love and, coming from two gelfling who’s marriage still glowed with adoration, it meant a lot.

He took Deet’s hand. She smiled so sweetly at him. The burning was gone. Only warmth remained. “Alright then, next trine.”

I mostly write one shots, which I find easier to just post on Tumblr now. I’m not bad at writing, but I’m just not very good at writing consistently, or long fanfics, so I’m content with just posting my stuff on my art Tumblr account

Best of the best:

1. A03, ‘cause it’s organized the best. I also like Tumblr fanfics and stories, but when it has several chapters, finding the other chapters is often hard to find, especially if the author didn’t link to the other chapters

2. Lazy days, evenings where I just need to calm down before sleep and bad days where I need comfort. Let’s be honest though: Technically, every day is a good day to read fanfics

3. I always read fanfics on my phone or IPad. I like that best

4. I don’t have one

5. I read a couple of Beetlebabes, hooked Wayfinder and Stonegrot one shots, though I couldn’t name all (or any) of them, ‘cause I’m bad with names and titles

6. I like Angst with fluff at the end the most. It’s not an actual trope I think for fanfics, but imma just make it into one

7. I don’t know what this question exactly means tbh? I’m just gonna interpret as “What character from what show”, and to that I’d say, I love most to read about my ships and my fictional crushes the most. Or honesty: I ONLY read fanfics about my ships and my fictional crushes xD

8. I’m a fandom slut that jumps from fandom to fandom pretty frequently and most of the time, I don’t come back. I however have my two exceptions, which are the transofmers fandom. I gave up on it, when I found another media that inspired me more and after I pretty much just read and did everything in the fandom that I could come up with at the time. I returned for it because of the Bumblebee movie and when I started shopping Charbee. The other fandom was Trollhunters (in which I am rn). I also gave up on it, just because I found, yet again, another media that then inspired me more etc. I came back to it after rewatching Trollhunters again just one or two weeks ago

Worst of the worst

1. I HATE “miss communication” trope, in books and in fanfics alike. That’s just bad. It’s bad, not because miscommunication doesn’t happen, it does, but because miscommunication is THE plot in those stories and it just gets tiring: Let them communicate like a good couple does! Also: Love triangles... just don’t

2. Someone calling someone else “Baby” or “Daddy”. I hate that shit, it makes me extremely uncomfortable

3. When I notice, that it’s only angst. Give me angst, but give it some fluff too! I want some angst for feels, not a whole drama! Also: PLEASE tag your stories with “character death” or “unhappy ending” when there is one. Most people do, which is really good, but I’ve also had one or two cases where that didn’t happen and it really triggered me so yeah... tag your stuff please, ‘cause I’m someone who believes in freedom of fanfic writing a lot, but please be respectful to those who try to navigate the internet correctly, by not bothering people about their writing

4. Slow burn fanfics: I love slow burn in shows and movies, but I hate it in fanfics, ‘cause I mean: I read fanfics to live the dream about my ship being together or me, shamefully shipping myself with my fav character, so why would I let myself suffer by waiting FUCKING YEARS, until the thing I wanna see happening rn, happen like 2000 chapters later

5. Oh there are BUNCH (Imma trigger a lot of people, but remember: those are just PERSONAL opinions. This is not objective at all): In The Dark Crystal AOR, there are a lot of people who love Kylan and I don’t... understand? He’s barely in the series? Also, Gurjin is a nice dude, and I actually understand why some people like him a lot but I just, can’t. I dunno why, I just can’t.

In the Moana fandom: It’s the crab guy, who’s name I actually forgot, I don’t... understand. He’s not that special and is also barely in the movie. His song is fine I guess, but not amazing. I dunno what the hype is about

The Trollhunters fandom: Stricker... I mean, he’s interesting and all but I just... don’t understand. He isn’t that special tbh, to me at least. (I might be killed for this, but ya know: I respect your opinion, and I get where you’re coming from, but I just can’t vibe)

The SU fandom: Spinel and the diamonds... just why? They are all either egoistical, annoying or straight up just shit people

6. I hated Spinel so much and was so dissapointed in the Su Movie, I was really resilient of watching the last season... I did anyways, but I was close to quitting

7. Maui/Crab guy, Charlie/Memo (nothing against Memo, he is fine as a character, but it’s obvious he was just in the movie to make people not ship Charbee, but they failed miserably and just... ugh) and Gunmar and just anyone... to be he really isn’t a ship-able character at all, though I still tolerate Gunmar/Morgana and Gunmar/Dictatous, ‘cause I get where people come from, but I just don’t think Gunmar is a character that I can see with anyone. I like it better to read fanfic about people who made up the story of Gunmars pats mate with whom he had Bular

9. Atypical and American horror story. That’s it I think. I had this more with movies I couldn’t watch. Though there are a couple of shows I didn’t even try watching, but I just didn’t want to watch, which are She-Ra, Kipo, Game of Thrones and just any show with more than 4 seasons

10. Harry Potter... No joke. And I know I’m gonna get killed for this. I’ve been able to watch the movies, and I do admire the world of Harry Potter, but I just could never get into the story that much. And I HAVE TRIED reading the books, before anyone says anything, but I didn’t like the writing. I know that’s a reaaaaally unpopular opinion, but ya know: I can’t change the way I feel and I stay by my opinion that Harry Potter is overrated

I’m honestly not sure what to write but: I love this story! I began reading it when it only had around 6 chapters and was hooked! I however am someone who jumps from Fandom to Fandom a lot and lost track. I have However rewatched Trollhunters recently and went right back in! Especially concerning Gunmar. He is an absolute asshole and vile as can be, but I just can’t help but be fascinated by him in so many ways, and your story just conveys all of this so SO well! I also absolutely love the effort you put into the world building etc, it’s incredibly fascinating and gives the whole story another layer of depth that makes it all the more enthralling. the future - stonegrot week day 7 🌼

"Mama? What are you doing?"

Deet glanced down at her son, silently gushing at his little gap toothed smile. "I'm working on a new sweater for you, sweetie." She held up a tangled ball of red yarn being held between two knitting needles, "Winter's just around the corner after all."

Jen watched astonished as the mesh of red slowly began to take shape into something resembling a collar, then a sleeve, and very soon another sleeve to join it. He toddled closer to the side of the bed, beckoning Deet to scoop him up so he could get a better look.

"Would you like to give it a go?"

His big blue eyes widened slightly. "Really mama? Can I?"

Deet smiled warmly. "Of course you can. It's your sweater after all - you should have a hand in making it too."

Slowly did she guide her little one to sit between her thighs, placing her hands atop his and working them through the motions until the individual crimson spools were being tightly fastened to one another. At some point, Deet began to sing to him. A gentle melody that spilled effortlessly from her lips and filled the once still and quiet of the bedroom. Jen flickered his tiny ears in delight, briefly letting his mother take over knitting as he sunk into her inviting warmth.

That's when the door creaked open and a pair of deep cobalt eyes greeted them affectionately.

"Should I just leave this and be on my way?" Rian chuckled, a playful lilt to his voice. He gestured with his head to the tray of tea and mini confections that Brea had dropped off from the Vapran marketplace. "You two seem pretty occupied with one another. Would hate to interrupt."

Deet rolled her eyes fondly, already making room for Rian on the bed. "Well you could, but then you'd be missing out on some wonderful cuddle time, and that sounds awfully dreadful doesn't it?"

The Stonewood laughed a little louder this time. "Oh absolutely, Deethra."

Kicking off his boots, Rian placed the tray on the nightstand and took his place at his wife's side, bending his head down to leave a quick peck on Jen's forehead. It was then that Deet decided the knitting could wait until later. She had promised cuddles, and both her boys looked in desperate need of them. Especially Rian, who seemed particularly weary after running his earlier errands.

"Settle in my dears...." she cooed, wrapping her arms around both of them. "We've got the rest of the day to do absolutely nothing at all...."

afternoon delight - stonegrot week day 2 🌼

Rian posed the question to Deet one evening while they were getting ready to retire to bed.

"So.... I don't suppose they have lakes and things like that down in Grot, do they?"

She had turned to him while in the middle of trying (and failing) to tame her unruly hair with a brush gifted to her by Brea from a name day past.

"Oh! Well, we do have underground lakes and aquifers, but they're mostly used for collecting drinking water and such. Us Grottans don't really do a lot of swimming, heh. Though it does sound like it'd be a lot of fun."

She tilted her head curiously. "Why do you ask Rian?"

At the time, he has only given her a cryptic response of "Oh, just curious...." and for the most part, she brushed it off as just that - curiosity. Well, it was partially true. Rian had been curious, and since getting his answer, he had put a plan into motion.

One that would hopefully put a smile on Deet's face.

After finding a day where neither was too busy with other responsibilities, he surprised her with an impromptu trip to a nearby lake that was overlooked by rolling green hills and wildflower beds as far as the eye could see. It was the perfect location for a brief afternoon getaway. Judging by the look on Deet's face as she took in the scenery around her, she felt the same way.

Rian felt a smile tug at his lips. He hadn't even told her about the picnic basket he had hidden away among the grove of trees that grew near the lakeshore yet, but decided to hold off on that particular surprise a bit longer. For the moment, he simply stood there and drank in the sight of her petite form standing amongst the tall flowers that grew to reach her hips.

"You look lovely today..."

Deet finally turned to meet his gaze, and seconds later a bright red blush sprung up on her green tinted cheeks.

"Thank you Rian. Hehe, you look quite lovely today too."

Rian laughed softly, not yet realizing a bit of red had surfaced on his face as well.

"Come, the day is young," he extended a hand for her to take, "let's enjoy it."

Deet smiled, carefully weaving through the flowers to lace her fingers with Rian's.

"Lead the way...." she poked his nose playfully, "skybaby."
