from what you said on one of your recent fics, i’m just curious about your theories and/or headcanons for Jen and Kira’s parents? not trying to start any arguments or anything, i just love hearing people’s different takes! i’m not sure which ones i agree with yet.
Yeah! :) I've thought about this so much. This might be kinda long since I have quite a bit to say about it. (Some of it might not make sense, please ignore me on those parts haha!)
I'll start with Jen, since I'm pretty solid on my theory for his parents. I really do believe that Jen is the son of Rian and Deet. I'm not sure exactly what will happen with Deet and the darkening, but I choose to believe that they find a way to help her and that her and Rian can be happy, at least as long as they can before we know what sadly happens... Anyways, Jen reminds me so much of Rian, and now it's confirmed via Dark Crystal's website that Jen is a Stonewood. (I know Kylan is half Stonewood, but they still call him a Spriton generally, so it doesn't make sense to me that they would call Jen a Stonewood instead of a Spriton if Kylan really is his dad.) Also the bits of white in Jen's hair reminds me of Deet's hair. Besides his looks, I have thought a lot about Deet too. I think something unique may be going on with her given the way she can talk with the great trees and how she was trusted with the Sanctuary Tree's power. Her name is literally Deethra too, with Thra in it. (That might not even mean anything but like... it's been heavy on my mind haha). If she has some kind of special significance to Thra, I think that would be fitting that her son is "the chosen one". In the case of Rian being Jen's dad, that makes Ordon Jen's grandfather. Ordon is the one who found the dual glaive during the Arathim Wars (with Fara's help) which we know had the crystal shard that Jen used in the movie. I think that would be a cool connection. :)
For Kira's parents, I still don't have a completely 100% solid theory. My initial thought was that her parents are Brea and Kylan. I know those two aren't even officially together but I felt like some kind of chemistry was happening between them and it might be leading to a relationship. We know for sure that Kira is a Vapra (again, via the Dark Crystal website), so I'm definitely thinking Brea or Seladon is her mom. There are a few things I noticed about Kira. First things first, she has a bit of green in her hair. This part is what has me stumped a little bit. We know Gurjin has green in his hair, but if you look close enough it looks like Kylan has a bit of green it his as well? I saw a post about that with pictures. Comment or message me and I'll try to find it and link it. Okay, besides that... Kira's wings. They don't exactly look like any of the wings we see in AoR (that I remember) but the two times we do see them, she is using them more to glide than to fly. Maybe it could be something like no one taught her how to use them (she was literally raised by podlings, how would they teach her?) But honestly, it made me immediately think that she descends from a Drenchen (Gurjin). Not to mention she lived in a swampy like area. I don't know if that would have anything to do with it though, just a little thought. We do see in Deet's vision, Brea running through the woods with I'm guessing Kira, with how similar it looks to Kira's memory of her "mother". And Kira literally calls her "mother". There's still the chance though that Seladon is her mom and that Kira went into Brea's care after her death or something, and Kira having been so little only remembers Brea and just assumes that she's her mom. Last thing is I'm automatically assuming Seladon will be the last All-Maudra. That could give some significance to Kira, the other gelfling in the prophecy, being her daughter maybe? Perhaps I'm just overthinking all of this haha.
So, all that said... long story short, I think Rian and Deet are Jen's parents. I'm not 100% solid on a theory for Kira's parents though. I really really want it to be Brea and Kylan, but I'm thinking it might actually be Gurjin and Seladon somehow.
I also love hearing people's theories and talking about my own, whether it's about Jen and Kira's parents or anything else. So share yours with me or ask me for more theories! :)
(And please don't be rude or try to start arguments. People can have different theories! Nothing is exactly confirmed yet besides those two small details. No need to be rude or argue over this stuff. We can all share our thoughts and opinions in a nice way!)

All I Ask of You (Chapter 6)
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance fic
Deet x Rian
She walked into his life when all seemed lost. He accepted her when the other surface dwellers didn’t. She was gentle. He was brave. Their first impressions dwelt in their minds and their feelings grew as their journey wore on. They supported each other, comforted each other, and gave each other strength. Together, they were a light in the darkness.
Chapter 1. Chapter 2. Chapter 3. Chapter 4. Chapter 5. Chapter 6.
[-]
There were a few aspects of this situation that could generously be called “lucky.” For one, the trail of dead foliage the darkening left behind led him straight to her. Another was that she still needed to stop to rest, to eat, and to sleep at night. That, combined with Rian’s tireless trek into the Endless Forest meant he was rewarded at the end of his first day with a glimpse of her between the trees.
He’d called her name and ran to her, carried completely by his delight in seeing her again. However, dead brambles and brush sprang up around him, cutting him off from her. He cut through them with a hunting knife until the blade dulled. This did little to deter him, but he did change his approach.
He watched her from a distance, always keeping her in his sight, but trying to stay out of hers. That thing inside her, whatever it was, obviously didn’t want him close, which convinced him he was doing something right. He had to get close to her somehow, but he had to use more cunning.
So, he followed her day after day, stopping when she stopped, eating when she ate, and sleeping when she slept, but always keeping one eye open. All the while, he tried to work out how to approach her without alerting the darkening to his presence.
Uncounted days into his journey, Rian rested under a tree while Deet napped a few yards away. While he knew he should take the opportunity to get some shuteye as well, he felt too restless. At least it gave him some time off his feet. He watched her sleep, endless familiar questions running through his head, when a flash of red caught his eye.
He stayed perfectly still, listening to the brush rustle and twigs crack as something circled them. He caught a glimpse between the trees. A red cloak, a claw, a beak... Skeksis.
Rian was on his feet in a second. He caught sight of the red cloak again. The Chamberlain? What was he doing out here? Certainly up to something, but what? Spying, perhaps? It wasn’t as if they had gelfling to do it for them now.
He grabbed the hilt of his sword and began to unsheathe, but then thought better of it. The coward won’t get close enough to taste me steel. Instead, he grabbed his bow and threw a quiver full of arrows on his back.
The red cloak flashed through the trees again and again, moving in the opposite direction of Deet. Rian spared a glance back at her. She slept still as stone under a tree’s shade. She wasn’t going anywhere any time soon. I’ll be back, he silently promised her, not daring to make a sound. Then he positioned an arrow against his bow string and stalked after the Chamberlain.
He walked along, eyes peeled, arrow at the ready. It didn’t escape his notice that this could be a trap. They could be luring him out here to catch him alone, but he was already alone. So what difference did it make if they ambushed him in one spot or another? At least out here, Deet was far away.
Finally, he found himself in a clearing, surrounded by a circle of trees. This is it, he thought, pulling the bow sting taut. He waited for the attack, but only caught more glimpses of red through the trees. “I know you’re here,” he growled at the red cloak as it circled him. “Show yourself, coward.”
“Ah, Brave Rian,” The Chamberlain squawked from the shadows. “We meet again.”
“We would, if you showed your hideous face.” Rian’s ears twisted to catch the Chamberlain’s footsteps and he rotated to keep the arrow pointed at his target.
“Sticks and stones, gelfling, sticks and stones.” The Chamberlain’s voice carried through the trees. “But words can hurt. I know very well. You should know too, if you learned anything.”
“I know your tricks by now, SkekSil.” Rian spat the name like a foul taste in his mouth. “You twist lies and truth to turn gelfling against gelfling. But tricks are all you have, smoke and mirrors. Your words don’t work if no one believes them.”
“Smoke and mirrors?” The Chamberlain mused. “Is true I prefer cunning and finesse over barbaric force. Peace is better than war, is it not?”
“There was never peace!” Rian tightened his bow string. “You drained gelfling! You corrupted the Crystal! You destroyed our home!”
“Did not drain gelflinf until recently,” The Chamberlain dismissed, as if the other two claims were mere footnotes. “Is necessary for survival.”
“Then how does SkekGra survive without it?” Rian snapped back.
“SkekGra?” The Chamberlain screeched, finally letting some true emotion slip to the surface. “You dare invoke the name of the Heretic?”
“He survived for four hundred trine without essence or the Crystal. You never needed any of it. You’re just gluttons.”
“Is payment for years of service,” The Chamberlain answered. “You gelfling cannot rule yourselves. You need us.”
“You’re wrong!” Rian shot back. “Gelfling thrived in harmony with Thra before the age of the Skeksis and would have continued to do so if you never came.”
“You think was all peace and harmony before us?” The Chamberlain questioned. “Was primitive time. Gelfling can be brutal.”
“You don’t know anything about gelfling,” Rian growled back.
“I don’t?” He could hear the Chamberlain’s wicked grin in its voice. “Tell me, what was ancient gelfling punishment for patricide?”
Rian felt all the blood leave his face and his arms dropped just a little. The Chamberlain broke into a cackle, but all Rian could hear was his father’s dying screams.
“Oh, so you must have some idea,” The Chamberlain laughed. “I wonder what would Captain Ordon think of you now?”
Rian renewed his grip on his arrow and tightened his bow string once again. “Keep my father’s name out of your filthy mouth, SkekSil!”
“Ordon knew the value of order and peace,” The Chamberlain went on, “and you broke that. Would he be proud to know his sacrifice only led to suffering? Death? Failure?”
Rian’s cheeks flushed as he aimed his arrow. “Don’t talk about my father like you knew him!”
“And you knew him so much better, hmm?”
Rian’s heart pounded in his ears. His fingers itched to loose the arrow. He saw red. His arrow flew forward and buried itself in the trunk of a tree.
A snicker rang in his ears. “No, not there.”
“Show yourself, coward!” Rian called as he notched another arrow.
“It is a poor hunter who needs his prey to show itself. I wonder, what would father think?”
“You know nothing!”
“False! I know father would still be alive if son could protect self.”
“Shut up!” Rian pried his eyes for his target. They followed the flashes of red as it circled through the trees.
“Rian could not defeat Hunter on own. Ordon needed to take son’s place.”
“I said, shut up!” The red cloak passed again. He calculated where it would next appear and tightened his bow string.
“Father died because son was weak.”
The arrow flew. The Skeksis shrieked and fell to the ground with a thump.
Rian darted into the trees as he claimed another arrow from his quiver. In an instant, he stood over the Skeksis, arrow pointed at the creature’s throat. SkekSil continued to moan in pain over the arrow sticking out of his shoulder. Rian stared down at his prey with cold eyes, forcing down the part of his heart that insisted on feeling compassion for the wounded creature. This is no helpless fizzgig, he reminded himself. This is a monster.
“Please,” SkekSil begged. How quickly the tone changed. “Please have mercy. You don’t want to kill me. I can be useful. I can-”
Rian released the arrow and it sunk into the ground just a hair away from the Skeksis’ head. “Get up,” Rian commanded. “Get up and go back to your Emperor, but give him my message. Tell him the gelfling will never go back to being his slaves. Tell him we will fight to the last. And before this is over, he will feel the wrath of Thra itself.”
“Very well, gelfling,” The Skeksis grumbled, stumbling to his feet. “I deliver message, but allow me to leave you with a message of my own. A question, more like. Do you think Rian is greatest threat to Skeksis? Did Rian cause retreat at Stone-in-the-Wood? If not you, who?”
Rian felt the blood drain from his face. “Deet…” This was a trap, but not for him.
“Oh, it has a name,” The Chamberlain snickered. “Now gelfling, which would be smartest move? Who do Skeksis destroy first?”
The Skeksis’ cackle stung in his ears as he ran back through the brush, pulling aside thorn branches with his bare hands, to get back to her.
A rumbling rushed in from the side. Tree trunks crackled like snapping twigs as the thing bolted closer. Rian turned toward it, hands shaking. He drew an arrow.
The monster crashed through the trees. Rian stood stunned for a second too long. The thing swiped out with its claw. He dodged, but the claw clipped his arm.
He let out a pained hiss as he clutched his grazed arm and looked back at the creature. What was that thing? He knew his father slayed hundreds of atathim of many kinds during the wars. That’s not what this was. He barely had time to think as the claw came down on him again. He dodged and searched his belt for anything that could be useful. Dagger? If it could pierce the thing’s armored skin. Sword? Same problem. Plus, those claws looked strong enough to snap the blade in half. His arrows were scattered everywhere and none within his reach.
What he wouldn’t give for one of Deet’s smoke bombs or even her fire tricks. Deet was always full or tricks and ideas. And I bet this thing burns.
But he couldn’t go on dodging forever. If wanted to get to Deet, he needed to fight back.
He drew his sword, his best option. Another claw came down. He swung. His sword clashed against it like armor, but at least it drew back. It tried again, and again he blocked.
As he and the monster continued their dance, he recalled a story about his father, how he saved Maudra Fara from an arathim when she was a childing. He killed the giant beast with just the tip of a broken spear by stabbing it up through the mouth. Did this thing have the same weakness? Did he dare get close enough to find out?
Well, he had to try something. This thing didn’t seem to be wearing out any time soon. He dove forward, sword pointed at the thing’s throat. The monster seemed shocked for a moment, and it let him in. His sword plunged into the monster’s stomach. A soft underbelly. This thing has a soft underbelly. Before he could withdraw and stab again, claws clamped around him and pressed him against its front.
“No! No!” he screamed, thrashing against the vice-like grip. He needed to get out. He needed to protect Deet, to save her. This thing couldn’t have him. He pressed both feet against the monster’s belly and pushed back with all his weight. Just when he felt the claws’ grip begin to loosen, something came barreling in hard and fast.
He flew through the air and found himself crumpled on the ground, the wind knocked out of him. For all of Thra he’d swear he got hit by a runaway carriage.
Behind him, he could hear the sounds of a struggle and the monster’s distressed cries. He began to pick himself up when something wooden thwacked him on the head.
“Rian not careful!” a familiar voice scolded.
“Hup?” He looked up and saw his poddling friend offering him a hand.
Rian took it, intending to push himself up for the most part, but the podling hulled him to his feet anyway. They turned to see the battle behind them, a second surprise revealing itself. Lore, Brea’s stone protector, grappled with the beast.
“What that thing?” Hup asked, pointing his spoon toward the fighting creatures.
“No idea,” Rian answered, huffing to get some breath back in his lungs.
The monster let out an earsplitting scream. It fell to the ground in a heap as Lore retracted its single claw.
“Come on,” Rian said, grabbing his sword out of the creature’s belly. “We have to find Deet.”
“Deet?” Fire burned in Hup’s eyes.
They took off through the forest, hardly noticing as brush and thorns scraped at them. Up ahead, they could hear screams. They ran faster. Purple light flashed between the trees. Finally, they found her.
When they made it to the clearing, they heard one more scream, saw another flash of purple. Then, a monster thudded to the ground. Deet stood in the center, surrounded by the dead bodies of three beasts. The purple in her eyes burned harsher than Rian had ever seen, as did the glow in her veins.
“Deet…” Hup whispered, staring stricken at her.
Her ears perked and she turned to them. “Brave Rian, Paladin Hup…” she spoke. It was her voice, but something else echoed behind it. “Follow us no longer. The vessel does not want you harmed.”
“Deet, please,” Rian dared to take a step forward. “You don’t have to live like this. We can find a way to help you. Just come back with us. You don’t have to fight this alone.”
Her eyes turned away from them and looked sorrowfully at the ground. “It is not her choice.”
A fire lit in Rian’s heart. Ignoring Hup’s warnings, he unsheathed his sword and marched up to her, or rather, the thing that was keeping her trapped. “Whatever you are, let her go!” he demanded, pointing his weapon at it. “She never wanted to hurt anyone! She doesn’t deserve this!”
Deet’s body turned toward him. Her eyes glanced down at his sword with little interest. “Deet is no captive. She became our vessel willingly.” She put two fingers on the side of his blade and pushed it aside. “Your sword cannot change this.”
She turned and began to walk away. He felt weak in the knees and noticed how dry his throat had become. No way to stop it. No way to save her. He couldn’t’ accept it. He refused to accept it.
“Wait!” He called out. His legs buckled beneath him and he fell to his knees. “Take me instead. I’ll be your vessel. I am willing. Please. She has a family, people who love her. They’re waiting for her back home. They need her.  I’ll gladly take her place. Please, just let her go.”
She turned her head. The cold, unfeeling glow looked back at him. “It is not possible. What is done cannot be undone.”
“No! No please!” He scrambled to his feet and rushed forward. “There must be a way! How can I save her? Please tell me!”
He grabbed her arm and it instantly brought pain to his hand, cold but burning. He dropped to his knees again, clutching the injured hand to his chest. Behind him, he heard footsteps as Hup hurried over. But he also heard rustling as Deet crouched down before him.
“Rian…” she said clearly, in her own voice, no echo behind it.
He looked up. Her face was kind and her eyes were clear. It was her, all her. “Deet…”
“You shouldn’t have come here,” she whispered. “It’s not safe.”
“Safe?” He spoke as if he never heard the word. “I don’t care if I’m safe. I care if you’re safe.”
“Deet,” Hup said in a soft, breaking voice, “please come back. We protect you.”
She turned a sorrowful smile to him. “Hup, it means so much to me that you came back for me, but there’s nothing to be done.”
“Whatever’s happening to you, I’m sure we can find a way to stop it,” Rian insisted. “If we bring you back to mother Aughra…”
She shook her head. “There are some things that are beyond even Aughra’s power.”
“Please,” Hup begged, tears forming in his eyes, “let us help.”
“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I love you both, but it’s too late.” She stood up and stepped back from them. “I don’t know where my path will lead me, but you must leave me behind.”
The purple glow fogged over her eyes once more. She turned and began to walk away. Rian could feel her slipping. He felt he was drowning. For one helpless moment, he considered letting her leave it at that. She’d walk away forever, he’d stay here on the ground, and everything after was empty. But Deet would never give in to despair.
“No!” he shouted, jumping to his feet. “No, I can’t accept that. There’s always hope, even in the darkest of times. You taught me that. I won’t give up. I won’t let the darkness consume you. Just tell me what I need to do.”
She stopped and turned back to them. Her eyes were clear again, but the echo in her voice returned. “Restore the crystal. Set Thra right. Only then can darkness turn to light.”
With that, the purple glow returned to her eyes. Rian and Hup stood frozen as they watched her disappear into the wood.
“What happened?” Hup asked, breathlessly.
He couldn’t answer, only stared at the spot where Deet stood moments before.
“Rian!” Hup snapped, this time with more bite in his voice. “What happened?”

Stonegrot Week Day 7: An original concept! I decided to write something this time! I haven’t written fanfic in so many years, but this idea interested me!
Confession
Rian paced nervously, weaving around trees and branches. It was just before dawn, and the Brothers were starting to peak over the distant mountaintops, casting a shimmering glow through the forest. Around twenty paces away, the rest of the Resistance were sound asleep. Rian was keeping watch, though he’d hardly have slept anyway. For the last several days he’d been restless.
Since first meeting her, Rian had been slowly falling in love with Deet. At first he felt rattled by guilt. Losing Mira, his first love, had been a crushing blow. It felt wrong somehow to love another gelfling in the same way. He often wondered if he was giving her a proper mourning, or if he was allowed to grieve for Mira and grow close to Deet at the same time.
As time went on, he didn’t have a choice in the matter. Loving Deet was something that simply happened, like opening his eyes in the morning. When memories of Mira’s death haunted him in the night, Deet was the one who heard his muffled sobs and crawled to his side to give comfort. When the Resistance was ambushed by rabid creatures, sick with the Darkening, Deet was the one Rian instinctively leapt in front of to protect. It seemed no matter the setting, the two of them would unconsciously group off together to joke amongst themselves and tell stories about their childhoods. They had learned each other by heart.
When Rian looked at Deet, his heart ached with longing to hold her close to him, but something always stopped him. Every time he opened his mouth to reveal his feelings, the fear of rejection seemed to choke him. “What if she loves Brea?” he’d wonder, “Who am I to think she’d want me when she could have a princess?”
Three near sleepless nights made it abundantly clear to Rian that he had to put an end to his wondering. He would tell Deet how he felt tonight. He only had to figure out how.
“Deet,” he whispered to himself, still pacing, “Would you.... I mean, do you see me as a friend? Or do you see Brea as a friend?” He shuddered. “No. I mean. Do you - Do you feel in love with Brea?” He kicked one of the trees in frustration. “Deet, do you think you could possibly be as in love with me as I am with you? Or do you like someone else? I understand if Gurjin is more your type, but I really like-“
“Who are you talking to?”
Red-faced, Rian whirled around to face Deet. She shivered lightly in the cool morning air. The suns cast little rainbow shimmers across her delicate wings.
“No one!” said Rian. “You’re awake early.”
“You’re awake earlier,” she said, smiling. She stepped closer to Rian and lightly leaned against him, resting her head on his shoulder. He melted. A silence hung in the air while he gathered his courage.
“Deet, I want to tell you something, but I’m afraid.”
Deet looked up with wide eyes. “You can tell me anything,” she said, a flicker of concern in her voice.
Rian’s arms hung awkwardly at his sides, afraid to wrap them around Deet at such a vulnerable moment. “I’m worried, though,” he said, “because this could affect our friendship. And it would break my heart to not be as close to you.”
Deet shifted nervously. “I don’t think anything will make me stop wanting to be close to you... but I am a bit worried now. Did something bad happen?”
Rian shook his head. Softly, he took Deet’s hand in both of his, careful not to slip into a dreamfast. “I love you, Deet,” he said. “I don’t know if you feel the same, but I need you to know that I love you. The way lovers do.”
For a moment, Deet stared blankly. Then a smile crept upon her face, which turned into a laugh, which turned into a fit of laughter that left her gasping for air.
Rian’s heart sank like a cold stone. He forced a laugh. “I’m only joking, of course.”
Deet threw her arms around him. “Oh, Rian!” she laughed. He melted into her embrace, completely baffled, heart fluttering. Deet pulled away just enough to lock eyes with Rian. Her dark eyes sparkled with laughter and affection. “Are we not lovers already?” She cried. “I was under the impression that we have been courting for weeks now! I thought perhaps in Stonewood culture it was left unspoken— Rian, of course I love you! I hardly ever leave your side!”
She was right. Rian was laughing too, now. Tenderly, he cupped Deet’s face with his hands and kissed her. It felt like a sigh of relief, as if he’d been holding his breath for weeks without exhale. Deet was shining. “So, Deethra,” Rian asked, “May I call you my lover, then?”
“It took you long enough to ask!” Deet giggled. “Of course you can! If I can go wake Brea and tell her the news!”

Did someone ask for Rian playing the lute for Deet???
I love how we had to get this juicy info about Rian through the “Heroes of the Resistance” book lol
Imagine, Rian tells Deet he can play the lute and after some time passes, he pulls it out and plays an old StoneWood love song. Or...an original piece, declaring his love for her!!!!
It’s a bit crappy but I like the outline-less look of it. Maybe I’ll go back into this after a while. I had to take a short break from the other drawing, and this was too good to pass up lol.
I hope you all like this~

Hello! For the ask meme, could you do Deet and Rian for 15 (what cologne or perfume they would use)? Also, what is their natural scent w/o perfumes?
Hi anon! I already answered what I think Deet smells like here. So, in the interest of offering something new, and because I have a surplus of time right now due to the quarantine, I wrote another short fic! This one took me a little while because I’m new to writing Stonegrot, but I hope I did their dynamic justice.
The Smell of Morning
Faint golden light streamed through the open window along with the aromas of damp rich soil, adine moss, and the early spring buds coming into bloom. Deet lay with her head on Rian’s chest, awake and listening to the even rhythm of his heartbeat as he slept.
She was only half awake. Even after so long above ground the light of the three brothers always woke her - too bright even as they still hung low in the sky.
But she was glad for it. This was a rare quiet time, separated from the war and violence they would have to rise and face. But in slow easy mornings like these, when the light of the three brothers still mixed with fading starlight, she could relax. She could rest and draw comfort from the smooth expanse of Rian’s bare skin, let him coax her back to sleep as her senses filled with his warmth, his smell, and his gentle loving touch.
When she woke again the light was brighter but still hazy and dim. There was also a weight on her body, and she angled her head to see Rian laying almost on top of her. His arm was swung around her wast, his leg thrown up over her hips, his face buried in the crook of her neck.
Deet kissed the top of his head. She could smell the oils he used in his hair - pine sap, ta tree, and shea - meant to keep it glossy and bring out the blue. Pulling back, Rian stirred and the looseness in his sleeping limbs vanished as he pulled her closer.
“Don’t get up. Not yet.”
His voice was muffled against her skin, and his breath was warm and sour with the taste of morning. Deet smiled. He’d be embarrassed if he knew. Rian could be so vain, treating his skin with tonics, sucking on reed stems to keep his mouth sweet tasting, taking great pains to keep clean and fresh like river rocks pulled from the stream. Even his clothes and armor had to always be neat and shining, adding notes of metal and polish to his normal scent.
But Deet liked the way he smelled now. It was natural, the tang of stale sweat mixed with her own musky smells from the night before. So, as he kissed her neck she knew he would taste the dried salt that was surely there.
Pulling out of his arms, she turned so they lay face to face. Rian smiled at her, reaching out to lay a hand on her waist. Deet reached out in response, cupping his cheek. His eyes fluttered closed, and she wasn’t sure if it was a reaction to her touch or if he still was caught between sleep and awake.
But as she traced the curve of his face, the strong angle of his jaw, and the soft skin of his lips, it didn’t matter.
The morning was long and they would have time to be together.

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (TV), The Dark Crystal (1982) Rating: General Audiences Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: Deet/Rian (Dark Crystal), Deet & Rian (Dark Crystal) Characters: Deet (Dark Crystal), Rian (Dark Crystal) Summary:
"Water trickled off her shoulders and her wings in crystalline shards of moonlight. No matter how many times Rian reminded himself that it was rude to stare, especially in this situation, he couldn’t help himself. He always found himself looking, only to be transfixed by her beauty, the pale green of her skin glowing softly in the shadows cast by the overhanging cliff, where a waterfall cascaded elegantly down into a glittering pool."
This fanfic is lovingly dedicated to @fandomsonmysleeve and @rianstonewoodsposts. Thank you for being wonderful friends and for supporting me. I really hope you enjoy this one-shot, and that there will be many more to come. Happy shipping!

Note
omg it's been so long since I've seen an active TDC blog!! if you're comfortable with answering, what are your favorite ships? (canon or otherwise)
There's sadly not many active here anymore and that makes me so sad! :( I definitely don't plan on going anywhere myself! We need to keep this fandom alive! My favorite ship from AoR is definitely Stonegrot (and Rian and Deet are my two favorite characters from the series). And along with them, my other top favorite ship from The Dark Crystal universe overall is definitely Jen and Kira! <3
Like I said, those two are my favorites. But I literally love every ship haha! I love RoyalMelody (BreaxKylan) and Drenchgrot (AmrixNaia). The last few weeks, RoyalHimbo (SeladonxGurjin) has been growing on me a lot too! I haven't finished the YA series yet but I'm very aware of Tavra and Onica and they sound so lovely :') Tavra deserved better.
And while I am a hardcore Stonegrot supporter, I did love Rian and Mira for the short time we saw them together and I wish we could have seen more of them! :( Mira deserved better, too.

Stonegrot Week Day 7
@stonegrotweek
Title: Glow Spirit
Prompt: Original Concept
Day 1. Day 3. Day 4. Day 7.
[-]
Day 7:
Glow Spirit
Rian looked down at his glowing blue drink. He heard tales of Grotton glow spirit. It was made from herbs and flowers found down here in the caves. To the Grottons, it was supposed to taste smooth and refreshing. It would have no more effect on them than Spriton berry wine. To everyone else, well… rumor was, a non-Grotton’s night on glow spirit will end with them chewing their own face.
But, it was Mitjan’s birthday. Ever since Deet came of age, it was their tradition to stay up after Bobb’N went to bed and share a drink. This was the first special occasion Rian spent with Deet’s family. He wanted to do it right. Besides, one drink couldn’t be so bad, could it?
“It’s alright,” Deet said, putting a hand on his shoulder. “You don’t have to try it if you don’t want to.”
Ah, so he wasn’t hiding his apprehension as well as he thought. His mind went back to all the times he and Gurjin joked about glow spirit over a few brews. I heard the ranchers use it to burn tics off the landstriders. No, I heard it’s used to strip paint off carriages. I know a guy who spilled it once and it melted a hole in the table. Neither of them had actually tried it before, but they knew it by reputation and they often claimed, one day, they would.
For Rian, that day was today.
“It’s really alright,” Mitjan insisted. “We know glow spirit doesn’t go down easy for gelfling who aren’t Grotton.”
“No, please, this is your tradition. I want to participate in everything you usually do. So…” Rian lifted his cup and the others did the same. “Happy birthday, Mitjan. I wish you another good year with your lovely family. Vliya!”
“Vliya!” they repeated and clinked their glasses.
Deet and her family took a drink while Rian eased himself into it. Small sips, he told himself. Small sips, just like Drenchen moonshine.
He lifted the glass to his lips. The immediate tingling sensation was his first clue this was going to be bad. He took a sip and swallowed anyway. It burned the whole way down. He felt his face getting hot and a stinging sensation in his nose. His whole body felt like it was dissolving from the inside out. And yet, his only coherent thought was don’t be rude.
In an effort to force down a disgusted gag, he kept his mouth shut tight. He twisted his lips together and focused on keeping his eyeballs from popping out of his head while Deet and her fathers discussed the drink’s “subtle undertones” and “smooth finish.”
“Doing alright, Rian?” Lath’N asked, a laugh in his voice.
Opening his mouth took great effort. “I’m fine,” he squeaked.
“oh, sweetie…” Deet got up and kissed the top of his head. “I’ll go get you some water.”
“Great,” Rian squeaked again. He folded his arms on the table and rested his head in them. His compulsion to be polite was gone. He was too preoccupied with fighting the urge to bite off his own tongue.
Deet, miracle that she was, brought over the whole pitcher and set a cup of water down beside him. He thanked her profusely and drank it with the vigor of someone who’s been lost in the Crystal Desert for weeks.
“I’m sorry our glow spirit didn’t agree with you, Rian,” Mitjan said. “Although, we did try to warn you.”
“Admittedly not very hard,” Lath’N added, chuckling.
“Well, at least now I know,” Rian said, pouring himself another cup of water.
Deet rubbed his back. “Are you feeling better?”
He offered her a soft smile. She truly was a walking miracle. He would kiss her if he weren’t so worried he’d transfer the sting on his lips to hers. “Yes, it’s just pain. It’ll go away.” He turned his head back to Mitjan. “I hope I didn’t ruin your birthday drink too much.”
“Not at all.” Mitjan grinned. “If anything, you made it better. Although, it’s perfectly fine if you toast with water next trine.”
“Next trine?” He wasn’t sure if it was the aftereffects of the glow spirit or Mitjan’s kind words, but a warmth rose in his chest. They already assumed he’d still being her next trine. They saw no end to his time with Deet. These kind people welcomed him into their home and even their family. They trusted the strength of his love and, coming from two gelfling who’s marriage still glowed with adoration, it meant a lot.
He took Deet’s hand. She smiled so sweetly at him. The burning was gone. Only warmth remained. “Alright then, next trine.”

HOLY HECK DID THIS TAKE A WHILE
For some reason, I decided to write this entire book in the span of a day. My fingers are sore, but I think it’s worth it. I’m super proud of this story! I think it’s my best yet!
I based this story on my Little Mermaid Au. I originally wasn’t going to make it into a story, but I loved the idea too much
I hope you enjoy!

One shot for day 2 prompt
Based on Miss Americana and The Heartbreak Prince by Taylor Swift
It’s you and me
There’s nothing like this
Miss Americana and The Heartbreak Prince
When he saw Deet captured by the darkening, it all came back.
He’d spent months chasing after Mira. She was clever and bright and his biggest rival. She exuded a strength he could never emulate, and that made him love her ten times over. That day in the castle, watching her disintegrate into thin air did nothing to alter the version of her that lived in his mind.
As soon as he got her, he lost her. And then he watched her essence fuel the very force she would want to dismantle. If she were still here.
“But she isn’t, Rian,” he said to himself.
He’d retraced his steps backwards, far enough to carefully decide his next move, but close enough to keep an eye on Deet.
“She isn’t still here. I am,” he said. He wrinkled his eyebrows and closed his eyes. Maybe this was all a dream. Maybe when he reopened his eyes he would be back with Mira, back with his father; being scolded for treating the castle like a playground and for flirting with the female guards. He and Gurjin, training to be guards one day and acing their tests. His whole life still in front of him.
But when he opened his eyes, the burned brush stood before him. In a path that led to his only source of hope. His only light.
“Deet,” he said, walking back towards her.
“Rian. I can’t do it,” she said. The thorns and vines that entrapped her left just enough space for Rian to make eye contact. Her brown eyes were now a darkened purple. And they looked so scared.
“I can’t hold onto all this...all this hurting. All this breaking. Thra has held it in its depths for so long. It’s bubbled and churned. Now I have to hold onto it. So that it doesn’t hurt anything else,” she blinked back tears. “Or anyone else, but- but I don’t know that I can keep it all inside of me forever.”
Her small voice broke, as though it was crushed under the weight she bore.
Rian knelt to face her. He crouched so that only the thin layer of bramble kept them apart.
“You shouldn’t have to. None of us should be here. You should be back feeding the nurlocs, Brea should be reading and writing in her journal. I should be-“ he stopped. “But none of that matters anymore.”
He reached in to grasp her hand, the pulsing purple waves didn’t scare him nearly as much as her fear did. “All we can do now,” he said “is fight for the future we know our world deserves.”
Deet paused. She closed her eyes and took a long, deep breath, summoning the courage she had when she left the caves, the courage she had when she started for Ha’rar, the courage she would need to keep going.
“Rian,” Deet started. “If it’s a choice between going back to my old life, and never knowing you. Or staying here, I-“ she pursed her lips. “I’d rather stay here.”
“Me too,” Rian replied.
They stayed like that for a moment. They allowed the world they inherited to change, while they tried to focus on each other. The grasp between their hands was strong. They heard the music and celebratory voices of their friends fade into the distance, as the three suns slowly slipped into night.
We’re so sad we paint the town blue. Voted most likely to run away with you.
