"Lucile, what are you doing out here? It's freezing!" Josephine exclaimed, her body shivering as she stepped out from the warmth of the stove-heated home into the biting, crisp air.
"I won't be long, Josie! Just need to get these last few roots cleared," Lucile called back, her breath visible in the frigid air.
Josephine trotted over, rubbing her arms in a tight embrace against the cold. "What are you digging around in the dirt for? You'll catch your death out here. Surely this can wait."
Lucile gently shook her head. "If I want to try planting this spring, I need to get a head start on clearing this place up. The overgrowth is atrocious."
"Look at the ground, poor baby," Lucile said, "The dirt is scorched and mostly rock. It's going to take a mountain of work to make it usable for planting."
"All the grass doesn't seem to mind," Josephine replied, raising an eyebrow and gently fidgeting with her fingertips in an attempt to stave off the cold.
"Well, technically it's not grass at all! It's just dead plants mixed with sticks and tumbleweeds," Lucile said, brushing strands of hair out of her face.
"It's not just that," she continued. "Our little bugs won't be long before they start walking, and that's only a step away from running, they'll need a place to play so they don't drive us crazy."
"Right," Josephine replied, her gaze drifting off into the distance.
Lucile tilted her head, noting the distant look on Josephine’s face. "What's the matter? The yard will look much prettier after everything's planted. The kids won't run us ragged in the house, and I thought you might like the idea of a garden… your garden party friends would love that."
"Oh, it's not that," Josephine said quickly, drawing her attention back to Lucile. "Sometimes I worry our children will outgrow the house, you know? I wish we had time to spruce up the place, make it more fitting for them. It feels like we're living in a broom closet."
"Hmmm," Lucile murmured, turning her head toward the house and taking a moment to think. Nothing could ever take Josephine out of her heart, but there were things she was beginning to notice about her that she hadn't before.
Josephine's privileged lifestyle… Even lived with Silas, she resided in a lavish place and was barley asked to lift a finger. Here, it was different, and keeping her happy in a home that could be the size of her old bedroom was a struggle.
But she wasn't wrong either. Their children would eventually outgrow this home, and the situation was even more tenuous given that it wasn't really theirs. They were just renting, and someday Nia's children would need to move in.
"Well, I can't exactly start knocking down walls, Josie, the wood is too old, and I'm honestly scared of what I'd find in the bare bones of it."
She paused, gathering her thoughts. "I was thinking about getting into my own wine-making. Maybe earn a few extra clams so we can start saving for a two-bedroom place in town. What do you think?"
Josephine sighed, "Perhaps. But what if you can't make sales? You sure there's no work that can pay you more?."
Lucile gently wrapped an arm around Josephine, steering her back toward the warmth of the house. "I've seen firsthand how folks around here love their wine. It's impressive, really. Brands even ship out to other places! I’m confident I can turn a profit if I come up with something good, Josie."
"Hmmm... I don't know," Josephine murmured
"There's a huge demand for it," Lucile pressed on. "A few bottles here and there, and by the time the kids are grown, we could have enough to move somewhere new.
It won't be anything grand...we're keeping a low profile, remember? Just the occasional bottle at the farmers' market.
"I know, it's not that I don't trust you know what you're doing, it's just... such a long way off."
Lucile thought for a moment, then smiled. "How about this? I'll give you some cash, and you can pick out some wallpaper to redecorate the nursery."
Josephine perked up, gasping excitedly. "Really? Even though money is tight?"
"A little color wouldn't hurt," Lucile replied with a half-hearted smile. Josephine buried her head into Lucile's shoulder affectionately.
"You treat me so well."
"Of course," Lucile chuckled. "Everybody knows if mama ain't happy, nobody is... But maybe," she nudged Josephine playfully, "you could pay me back in other ways?"
Josephine replied with a smirk and a teasing purr, "Oh, I think I know a few ways I can show my gratitude."

Treat #2 : The Reformer
This treat is a set inspired by the Dress reform movement (a bit of the Aesthetic movement too, lots of overlap between these two) from the 1895 to the late 1900s.
More pics and download below
It includes the following CC items :
Like the Aesthetic movement, the Reform dress movement dates back to the mid 1800's. It aimed at making women garments less constricting (for reasons varying from praticality, political leanings, supposed health downsides of corsets...). It was linked to feminism especially at the start and gave birth to the bloomers in 1851 for example.
Reform dress usually involved making it so that the main weight of the clothing would be carried by the shoulders and torso instead of solely the waist and thus get rid of the corset and masses of underskirts, to establish a "more practical type of dress that would facilitate a physical and productive life". This resulted most times in flowy dress, usually tea gowns. Like previously mentionned there's a big overlap between reform and aesthetic dresses since the medieval and antique (and even sometimes regency) influences fited the less structured reform dress silhouette of the late 1800's / early 1900's.
Once again this type of clothing wasn't well considered by the society at large, it took hold in specific artistic spheres such as the one surrounding the Wiener Werksträtte (a viennese artist association of which Emilie Flöge was a part of, the artwork is truly fascinating and very influencial look it up !).
This type of dress was so unconventional that apparently, the painter Henri de Toulouse Lautrec (who might I add painted prostitutes and such on the daily) was scandalised by Maria Sèthe Van de Velde's appearance when she welcomed him in a tea gown (see the blue tea gown below for reference) which he mistook for a dressing gown. I feel like this little anecdote helps to put things into perspective.

Autumn, 1900
Winifred had sat at her desk all evening after dismissing herself early from dinner. Perhaps, for anyone else, this would have been queer behavior, but for a writer such as herself, it was nothing out of the ordinary. Her family was used to her abruptly dashing away from them to jot down an idea, typically followed by locking herself in her study for hours on end. But on this evening, each stroke of her quill had proven to be utterly useless, and somewhere deep down inside she knew it was because she wished she didn’t have to be writing these words. But did she have any other option? Her co-workers were accepting of her frequent tardiness and forgetfulness, and even her more outlandish ideas for the next headline, but they certainly wouldn’t want some pregnant spinster working for them; least of all JJ. For months, she had prayed she would miraculously get her monthlies, that she had been wrong about the little one growing inside her. But, as each day passed, and she was yet bleed, it became clear she was with child again. As she sat there with her head in her hands, tears spilled over onto the page she had written explaining her 𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 from The Daily. If only there were another way...

transcript below the cut
<quill scraping>
Lawrence: There you are. I thought I might find you here <tik-tok, tik-tok> Winifred: Oh my, I hadn't notice the time
Lawrence: Should I not expect you to come to bed soon, then? Winifred: <sighing> I don't think so Lawrence: They work you to hard there, Winifred Don't they know I miss my wife?
Winifred: Wait...Lawrence Stop, stop I can't do this right now
Winifred: I'm sorry, I'm still not feeling well is all Lawrence: <nods> I understand Should we send for a doctor? It's been awhile now... Winifred: <shakes head> No, no. I'll be fine. Just a bit of nausea, that's all. And I truly do have work to do Lawrence: Do let me know if it gets worse. And if you're not feeling better in a few weeks, I think you should reconsider
NARRATION Lawrence places a gentle kiss on top of Winifred's head before departing. She waits to break down until she hears their bedroom door shut.
Winifred: Oh, god... What am I going to do?

I should probably talk about the context because the character depicted in this illustration is not the most famous or popular even in his homeland. Outside of Russia, you may have heard of him in connection with the novel "Wings". But Mikhail Kuzmin is an interesting figure as a poet, writer, and representative of the queer culture of the Russian Empire. I think it can be noted that I enjoy studying the history and culture of the LGBTQ+ community of different eras, so this personality has already interested me before. However, I found a great source of inspiration in his diaries, which he kept for a long time and shared his worldview, notes on creativity, contemporaries, life, and his romantic relationships. For this illustration, I used an excerpt from the 1906 entries, which is dedicated to celebrating Easter, but also addresses Kuzmin's spiritual doubts and the conflict of his religiosity with the theme of his orientation. I hope I can shed some light on this unusual topic with my art.

Although the Brink-Spectre household is affluent enough nowadays that the girls can dress more fashionably, Florence avoids the trendy puffed sleeves and voluminous ruffles in favor of more simple, academic clothing. This represents her more erudite personality, and her clothes tend to be more practical. She has a fondness for wandering off alone, and needs to dress practically in order to do so. Her clothes are often brown, with the occasional spot of blue, to tie in with her older brother Jules.
Although the rift between Jules and George is slowly growing, they are still very similar people, and Jules's wardrobe often parallels his father's. He wears a combination of very casual and very formal clothing, mostly in various shades of dark blue. He shares his mother's introversion, and this is manifested in the simplicity of his clothing. Jules dislikes his parents' attention, and that of others, and tries to avoid it whenever he can. The only exceptions to this are his sisters, with whom he is incredibly close.
Olive stands in sharp contrast to the demure practicality of Florence and Jules's wardrobes. She has no qualms about taking advantage of her parents' wealth, and is happy to use it to furnish her bold, outgoing personality. Olive dresses primarily in pinks and reds, which also serve to set her apart from the rest of her family, and her dresses frequently feature dramatic puffed sleeves, ruffles, ribbons, and lace. She loves attention, and strives to get it no matter how, often leading her to deliberately start conflict. She is the root of many of the disagreements between her siblings, and doesn't mind this at all.

Newlyn Fisher Clothing Set
I come to you today with this little historical seaside fashion interlude (before going back to work on more 1880′s sets). This set includes cable knit sweaters in high and low waisted, and variations on traditional fishermen smocks. More pics and download below
This set is partly inspired by the works of the school of Newlyn, a group of painters known to have depicted the surrounding of Newlyn, a Cornish coastal town, and its many fishermen in the 1880′s to 1900′s. And here is the painting that I referenced in the promo picture.
————————— Cableknit Sweater ————————
———————————————————————————
This is the sweater from the Werewolf pack without the little laced up strings on the shoulders (why do you always add these unnecessary details EA ? 😅). I’ve made a short version (S) for my high waisted needs and a long (L) version, for both masc and fem frames, as well as both adult and children.
Cableknit sweaters originated from Ireland, in the Aran Islands, though other types of knitted jumpers called gansey already existed in the British, Irish and Channel isles. They were created between the 1890′s and 1900′s. They were initially knitted with unwashed and undied wool. Both the natural lanolin from the virgin wool and the knitted patterns made for water resistant sweaters and as such : good alternatives to the previously used ganseys made of oiled wool died with indigo.
These Aran sweaters slowly became some fashionable sportswear item during the 20′s and 30′s, and later reached its peak popularity in the 50s’ and 60′s worn by the likes of Grace Kelly and Steve McQueen.

2 lenghts : S & L
——————————— Vareuse V1 ——————————
———————————————————————————
Vareuses are a style of fishermen smocks with a V neck. This style was typical of Brittany fishermen though I have seen depiction of Norwegian fishermen for example sporting this style of smocks on 1880s paintings too. While I couldn’t find substancial informations on their origins and date of appereance, vareuses seem to have been used at least as far as mid 19th century and were still worn as work wear up til the mid 20th.
It is said that traditionally fishers wore different colors depending on their fishing style : yellow ones for those shellfish picking, rust colored ones for those using fish traps, red ones for oyster farmers and blue ones for those fishing in the open seas.
Fishermen smocks were oiled to be water repellant and worn on top of clothes and knitted garments to protect them from water and keep them relatively clean.
On this 1st version of the vareuse I’ve not put any clothing “underneath” to allow for warm weather and for combinations with accessory shirts or turtlenecks.

——————————— Vareuse V2 ——————————
———————————————————————————
This 2nd version of a vareuse include a cableknit jumper sticking out of the V neck collar. The set also includes an overlay to pick the color of said cableknit jumper.

39 solid swatches on the cableknit overlay (located in the right wrist section)
for all ages
————————— Cornish Crewneck ————————
———————————————————————————
Similarly to the vareuse, the crewneck is a style of fishermen smocks. This style is traditionally associated with Cornwall, in the north west of England. Cornish crewneck smocks were used similarly to vareuses.

𝟏𝟗𝟎𝟎'𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 ⤷ 𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞 ⚰️
While there are some certainly similarities to Lawrence's previous styling choices, there are notable differences as well. Mainly the fact his outfits are now tailored for him specifically (even when he opts for past decade styles, like his formal attire), giving him a classy and almost timeless appearance. His new wealth status is reflected greatly through his headwear choices, now opting for the bowler hat for even more casual outfits instead of saving it for special occasions like in years past. Now an adult, his facial hair has grown-in fully, and he now sports full mutton chops and beard, complete with a moustache that he styles with pomade.
Despite his wealth status though, Lawrence is still something of a workaholic, reflected by both of work outfits. One for preparing the deceased bodies, and one for directing the funerals. Due to the unexpected nature of his job, many of his outfits can easily be used when sending for a body collection or meeting with a family for funeral planning, dressing professionally both in and out of the workplace.
Of course, one thing that remains the same for Lawrence is his preferred darker colour palette, mostly opting for black with hints of colourful accents. The only time he willingly dons all white is during his tennis matches or sport outings with other affluent members of society.
