Hello! 👋 I would love to hear your thoughts on David Gabriel, if you have the time! And inclination.
Hi! David Gabriel--that's a throwback for me! I haven't watched The Closer in a very long time, so my thoughts on David are a bit outdated and a little jaded because of how my feelings about the show have changed. David was always an outsider on the squad, which rubs me the wrong way for a lot of reasons, but I think he saw that law as an advocate instead of a crutch, but he was led by a person who saw it the other way around. And of course it ended worse for him than for Brenda.

Report: Marvel doesn't want anyone taking notes about their fresh start and more ComicsPRO gossip
Report: Marvel doesn’t want anyone taking notes about their fresh start and more ComicsPRO gossip
As you have noted, ComicsPRO is taking place right now, and important industry conversations are taking place. The press is not allowed at ComicsPRO, which makes us sad, but we understand that some Industry Conversations are SO important, that they must be private. Of course that doesn’t  prevent some things from leaking out. And given the woes that Marvel has been undergoing for the last 18…

Lol at all the Marvel lackeys running to David Gabriel's defense, even though what he said was atrocious. Marvel has become a fascist state. Who knew we would live in a world where DC has become the hip, fun, easy-going company of the two?

Michael Davis: I Got Your Diversity Right Here
Michael Davis: I Got Your Diversity Right Here
“What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity. They didn’t want female characters out there. That’s what we heard, whether we believe that or not.” Marvel VP of Sales David Gabriel, Marvel Retailer Summit, March 2017 “Let’s find a place they say, somewhere far away, With no blacks, no Jews and no gays” The Machine, Lyrics from There But For The Grace Of God, Go I, Dec 1979 “Now…

Marvel's 'America' by Gabby Rivera: Sales VP David Gabriel's 'diversity' lie exposed
Marvel’s ‘America’ by Gabby Rivera: Sales VP David Gabriel’s ‘diversity’ lie exposed
Marvel comics made quite a bit of news this week after its Vice President of Sales, David Gabriel, gave an interview with ICv2 on sluggish sales. He completely distorted the cold hard reality that fans are tired of politicized comics to say that we really just have a problem with “diversity.” To see just what a disingenuous liar Mr. Gabriel is, I have provided a review of Marvel’s America by…

While Marvel movies make bank, Marvel comics are in a slump. According to David Gabriel, Marvel’s VP of Sales, “diversity” is to blame.
“What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity,” he said last week. “They didn’t want female characters out there.” Needless to say, this statement was pretty controversial.
So, what’s up with Marvel’s sales?
Of the top 10 monthly comics in February 2017, only two were published by Marvel. Both are Star Wars spinoffs. The rest were from DC, with one exception: Image Comics‘ The Walking Dead. If you expand to the top 20, you’ll find just two more Marvel titles: The Amazing Spider-Man and Inhumans vs. X-Men. Basically, Marvel comics are tanking across the board.
To understand why this is happening, you need to know about a couple of key factors: The overcomplicated nature of comics sales methods, and how Marvel handled its “diverse” reboots for heroes like Spider-Man and Captain America. (Hint: all of those reboots are written by white men.)

This piece includes a beginner’s guide to comics sales (ie, “digital sales don’t count”), and why this method is both misleading and potentially discriminatory. For an in-depth look at the facts and figures behind Marvel’s falling sales, I recommend this post at Comic Book Resources.

Ed Catto: Our Own Worst Enemy
Ed Catto: Our Own Worst Enemy
Much has been written lately about the recent Marvel Retailer Summit and the unfortunate public relations debacle that followed. As you may know, Marvel had arranged to speak with and listen to leading comic shop retailers following a difficult downturn in their comic sales. The fireworks really started in the subsequent ICV2 interview when Marvel’s Senior Vice President of Print, Sales and…

I guess the Terrell Baylor case is starting to bug Gabriel a little more. He’s snapping at Brenda and questioning her authority.
