Ultimate Garage Racers of the past!

since nobody asked me about my ideal hwlr season 3 im gonna do it myself spoilers ahead obviously

under the cut bc its getting stupidly long and also 👉 mostly unedited rambling you have been warned

ok so for starters. rearview backstories are overhauled. i dont like professor rearview being a camper with dash originally, it doesnt match with his initial motivations of disliking cars if he's out for dash SPECIFICALLY. also its a lame and overused backstory especially in kids tv. so instead he's an outside force through and through who dislikes cars for multiple valid reasons, ie accidents, dependence on cars in infrastructure, poor urban development, lack of freedom etc. he's absolutely an r/fuckcars user (and i say this as someone who agrees with this viewpoint). he's big on bikes specifically (why else does he have the bike helmet lol) besides his monsters. im keeping the monsters bc like once you remove the monsters hes basically an entirely different character. i ALSO dont want to make him too much like dr. eggman bc hes kind of an eggman ripoff already. also 👆 since dash is an inventor/roboticist in her own right it adds a nice contrast between mechanical and biological inventions. ALSO also rearview and dash do NOT look the same age at all (dash is like 20-30 tops and rearview is 50-60) so it doesnt make sense for them to have been campers together (since the campers in the show are in the 10-13 range i think). to ME. also he seems like a cornelius to me. (he adopted rearview as a nickname yes i KNOW eggman already did this and that i SAID i didnt want him to be an eggman ripoff but this doesnt have to come up in the show ✋🤚)

once thats out of the way cruise is his not-yet-adopted nibling, not his child. rearview was single and childless (he preferred it that way), a biology/bioengineering professor somewhere outside hot wheels city. i see hot wheels city in the show as equivalent to manhattan so he'd be in like upstate new york or boston. but his sibling/s were killed in a car accident- he already disliked cars and hot wheels city, but this motivated him to take things into his own hands. he developed these large animal like monsters (more fleshy and realistic compared to dash's cartoony, stylized robotic obstacles) to ultimately destroy the ultimate garage and bring the whole city down. because he was cruise's next of kin, he got custody over them. cruise is rearview's nibling and not child here since like. coop has HIS dad and axle has HIS dad and its like the writers didnt have any other familial relationships on hand. also yes i know uncle larry's there but he doesnt have the same primary caretaker role coops dad and striker spoiler do

(now i COULD ALSO make cruise bioengineered that would be sick but mega wrex put a bad taste in my mouth so im gonna say no. do NOT bring up brights, she has a prosthetic, that's different. ALSO DO NOT BRING UP SQUEAKERS in my ideal hwlr squeakers is a decently intelligent roomba kinda deal that dash made as a companion but hes like. aibo level. and people just project onto him as people tend to do with robots)

with that out of the way CRUISE is this little orphan kid that just got adopted by their uncle. they go along with it bc a) that's their uncle like xe lives with them. b) its fun to make the other kids really mad (cruise was a bit of a bully but was defensive instead of offensive since they had like 0 friends and werent popular at all so they think everyone hates it). c) its fun to be evil and d) revenge for the death of xyr parents. instead of the street shrieker being a sports car, its a bike augmented with car power shit. not a motorbike bc i dont think rearview would be into those but a really souped up, high performance e-bike. with scale patterns (prof. rearview's has more of a sinewy, muscle texture).

professor rearview was initially reluctant to let cruise race but it appealed to his ego to let a bike user win against car racers so he relented but is still VERY concerned over cruise's safety. he's still shaken up by the accident while cruise shoves that shit down and is headstrong/stubborn. cruise gets super involved in the races when they happen and starts to really enjoy racing, rearview doesnt exactly enjoy that fact? but is happy cruise has something they like.

(i should mention here that while i do hc cruise as enby, they aren't out yet. everyone still thinks xe's a girl and refers to xem as such. cruise is still figuring itself out, especially now that it's growing into puberty (around 11-12yo). cruise doesnt feel safe coming out to either their family or the campers).

everything is mostly the same in seasons 2/3 except that i took megawrex out back. yeah theres no megawrex here he gives me. INCREDIBLE fury i want him torn to shreds. he pisses me off. if they REALLY want to include monster trucks make it a cartoon and the real megawrex has a human driver.

but when cruise wins the ultimate garage, they start to really like it. rearview thinks he owns the place and uses all the cars to cause chaos in the city, while cruise explores the insides of the garage. remember: theyre a very vulnerable, emotionally charged and orphaned kid who just won the keys to the city. when professor rearview decides to destroy the garage via self-destruct, cruise remembers that xe won the garage, not xyr uncle. so when coop goes to shut off the self-destruct, cruise gets there first and officially takes over the garage, kicking its uncle out in the process.

cruise's keeping of the garage is a little bit selfish (wants all the cool amenities for themselves), a little bit selfless (doesnt want people to be hurt in the collateral damage), but mostly they just want to keep racing and thrive off the struggle of their opponents. xe enjoys playing the heel! so cruise's plan is to control the garage, let the campers and other racers struggle to win it, and (eventually) pass it on when they felt like it. they didnt think this through all that well tbh.

also this is at the top of their game. cruise has the world in the palm of xyr hands (so xe thinks) and this is when cruise decides to come out. its very casual. axle just mentions like ugh its professor rearviews evil niece and cruise says "oh actually im not a girl." more softly than they'd like. the campers are confused ("wait you're a boy?" "it doesnt sound like you are" "maybe she's actually a monster in disguise!!") until xe clarifies they aren't a boy or a girl. they're nonbinary. have been for a while, but now that they have the ultimate garage, they're confident enough to say it out loud! after all, none of the campers can stop xem, and neither can xyr uncle. what's anyone gonna do about it? professor rearview gets all huffy like UGH im your UNCLE i CARE FOR YOU WHY DIDNT YOU TELL MEEE and cruise goes stfu you suck and are generally unpleasant to be around (he also tends to misgender them and thinks winning the garage got to their head which is why theyre nb now).

this goes on for another season bc hwlr NEEDS the extra runtime badly blah blah blah coop wins the garage back on some technicality. cruise thrives on technicalities xe loves technicalities and loopholes. and living at the garage has been nice and all but also very lonely. but they can't just give up now right? theyre not ready and cant ever be ready, not like this. coop offers to let them stay and they decide not to. cruise leaves their baggage in hot wheels city, goes back to their uncle's old place upstate, cat in tow. maybe go back to school, get into the trades, professional racing? there's so many more possibilities out there, when the road forks.

I finally had time with my busy ahh scedual to watch hwlr season 2, and though I haven’t finished it I’m not impressed.

First off Dash Wheeler is horrible so far, like I thought they assasinated her character in the second half of the first season but she just has gotten more unbearable. I still love my woc queens though so no hate.

Cruise is… honestly I don’t wanna talk about her, her character *so far* makes NO sense and seems like an idea that was not thought through, just used to replace Axel’s place in season 1 (which fails because Cruise isn’t likeable *so far* in my opinion.)

Also Coop has taken seven steps back, all his character development is gone. I do however love all the silly faces he’s been making, the animation is improving!

Now I haven’t finished the season yet so I’ll give my full thoughts at the end. I’ve been seeing lots of love for Cruise so maybe she gets better or maybe she’s just not my cup of tea, we shall see.

HWLR: Future AU (Part 2!) ✨

Axle Spoiler, son of now retired former champion Striker Spoiler, has become a racer himself. There are big expectations for him, and often times, he’s not sure if he’s meeting them. While his father is undeniably proud of him, the public seem so critical of each of his performances, and the comparisons seem to endlessly pile up as more races happen. He is also the most socially aware of what is happening, and recognises that his friends are struggling just as much as him, even if the pressure they face could be perceived as “less”. He cares, but can’t resist teasing them a little, treating everything with an “I told you so” mentality.

Bryce “Brights” Hikari is constantly putting her creative mind to good use. Her primary career is to design the race courses for all of Hot Wheels City’s biggest races and tournaments, but she also does photography, and visual design for the cars, working alongside Spark, who handles the mechanical side. Brights is as bubbly and bright as they come, but she’s also self-aware of how lonely things have become, and that everyone else is closer to eachother than they are with her. But she finds it best that she not mention it just yet… everything is so stressful, why add more issues to everyone else’s plates?

Simon “Sidecar” Cotter has always been great at generating hype for other people, and he seems to have embraced that role even further. Working under reporter and announcer Speedy Getaway, Sidecar has quickly become the most popular commentator in Hot Wheels City! The public love his enthusiastic personality, and he seems unbiased, for the most part… until Axle is brought into the picture, as his support and enthusiasm becomes unprofessional.

HWLR: Future AU- Casual Outfit References (Coop & Cruise)

I’ve drawn these designs a few times, so I found it befitting to make proper references for these two looks! While the racers don’t get many days where something isn’t going on (wether that’s races, training, events, advertising or something else entirely), it would be silly to spend the days you do have off in the racing gear… even if they’re still incredibly recognisable without it on.

Like my previous design references, I made these to use for myself, but wanted to share the full looks as I’ve drawn them before, and they have changed or evolved in little ways as I’ve refined them. They also include abridged descriptions for both characters, and a few design notes.

Bonus! Some of the developmental material and further annotation on these looks! A small look into my process and some of the choices I made in designing and finalising these looks. You can also spot some scrapped or unused concepts on the visual inspiration boards, and what stayed the same. As always, any and all questions regarding the AU are open!

Hot Wheels: Let's Race - Season 2 Thoughts

Season 2 has been out for a few days now, and I've watched every episode at least once through, so I'm finally going through all of my thoughts on the show, what's going on, and what I think is going to happen next. The joy of serialized kids shows!

Everything will be under the cut, just in case. Spoiler alert for all of season two!

First off- we're finally introduced formally to our "mystery racer"- Cruise! She's the daughter of the villain of the first season, Professor Rearview, and a racer in her own right. I have to say, I think her character design is very clever, having the shape of her pigtails match Professor Rearview's big hair! i know some people may not like that Cruise is his daughter, as opposed to a grandchild or niece, but I think that the fact of her being a direct descendant makes more sense for the story they're telling. That and there's fun to be had with Professor Rearview being an evil dad.

Cruise is undeniably the highlight of the season for me, and my new favorite. I enjoy the angle of the racers having a non-camper opponent, as the lack of constant close proximity, or down-time with one another means they don't have to be cordial or polite towards Cruise, and we see a lot of more intense emotions fester as a result- especially on Coop's end.

I also think in general, Coop as a character works much better in this season. The pre-established motivation, plus his new outstanding title as the camp champ are threatened directly by Cruise, as he is her primary target to beat, and the determination and vigor it brings out in him is very entertaining to watch.

The rest of the racers sadly don't fare as well, as it feels like they take more of a backseat when compared to season 1, outside of a character focus episode. This feels especially apparent with Axle, who has gone from his role as the main rival, to being good-aligned all of the time. His personality is still intact, but It feels very odd to see him so reduced in role, as the show doesn't frame him as a threat to Cruise also- despite the fact he is probably the only racer outside of Coop who could pose such a threat. The rest of the cast seem much more competitive when Cruise is not in the picture, but once she is, the show relegates them back to supporting roles. Considering the show's age demographic and the story it wants to tell, this isn't a huge problem, but nonetheless a little sad to see.

We also get a bit of backstory for Dash and Professor Rearview! I'm surprised to see they're the same age- either Dash has aged really well, or Professor Rearview has aged terribly. It's interesting to see they were campers at the same time. Were they friends? The amount of team-strengthening exercises that Dash has her own campers do is re-contextualized by this reveal- is she trying to prevent a repeat of what became of Rearview by making sure they do actually like eachother and get along, meaning the jealousy that comes with losing is minimal, or reduced because they can feel good for the person who does win because they are friends?

The environment that Dash and Rearview were in was clearly far more competitive and unforgiving. Of course, we can't pin it all on just that, as Professor Rearview's coping mechanism and overreaction to his loss is his own fault. Explanations, not excuses. And carrying this grudge for at least 30 years, it has long passed being something to be blamed on the conditions of the environment.

I'd love to see a flashback episode regarding their time at the Ultimate Garage honestly! Who were the other four campers who they trained alongside? I'd like to think maybe Axle's dad, Striker, was one of them. Seeing the exact conditions of the race would certainly help to clarify as much. Not to mention, they already have the 3D models for young Dash and Rearview...

One thing that was made clear by the episode count, and the season ending about half-way through the level 2 arc is that season 2 has been split in half, and the season 3 we're to get is really the second half of season 2. Which means more time to dwell on what we've gotten, and who will be the winner of the Ultimate Garage. There's also the question of whether the show will redeem Cruise, and have her join the side of good. I personally am conflicted? It would be interesting, and makes sense, but we are also yet to see any desire to change- let alone Cruise's own motivation and feelings towards her father's plans.

One thing I wish we had seen was a slower moment between Cruise and someone else, particularly any of the racers! I think the show would have it be Coop, as he is our main character, and I don't really have an issue with such. Season 1 gave us a whole episode where he was made to work with Axle, and it gave us a better insight into his character, motivation, and storyline. I think an episode like this with Cruise, under a circumstance that suits their storyline and characters better, would work wonders. Cruise clearly LIKES to race, and yet she is willing to help her father win it in order to destroy it? There's the general question of why Professor Rearview would even allow his daughter to be a racer, but considering he was a former racer, I suppose it would be a waste to not pass on those skills. Is Cruise of the belief that her father will spare her car, and allow her to keep racing? I want to see Cruise forced to talk to someone so that we get these answers.

As mentioned in a prior post, I have two theories regarding the next season's end, the winner of the Ultimate Garage, and the events that could follow. These are both hypotheticals in which Cruise does get a redemption arc, so both of these could very easily be wrong, and Cruise could remain evil, which still would be fun to see.

Option 1: Coop wins the Ultimate Garage. Coop manages to catch up in flame badges to Cruise, leaving the final race as to being between the both of them. Coop ends up winning the big race, much to the delight of the other camp racers, Dash, and his father. However, this victory does not stop Professor Rearview, and he puts his plan into motion to destroy the Ultimate Garage anyways. The campers and Dash all band together to stop him, but It's not enough. All hope seems lost, and there is a moment between Professor Rearview and Cruise where Cruise comes to the realization that their plan working means she will never race again, and lashing out in anger to get a victory that destroys the rich car culture of the city, and takes away something she loves, is just not worth it. She'd rather race again and get a chance to prove herself and improve, rather go down as a sore loser. Using her knowledge of her father, her car's unique abilities, and a little encouragement from Coop and the other campers, Cruise helps to stop his plan. After his defeat, Coop invites the other racers to continue staying with him at the Ultimate Garage, wanting them all to continue improving together. He also ends up extending the invite to Cruise, considering that now she has no place to go, as she's betrayed her father, and now that she's "good".

Option 2: Cruise wins the Ultimate Garage. Despite the campers' best efforts to beat her, Cruise still ends up winning out, and is rewarded with the ownership of the Ultimate Garage, much to the despair of everyone else. She excitedly shares the news with her Father, who is excited to begin the plans to destroy the whole thing. However, Cruise is starting to have doubts. She has all of these amazing cars and resources at her fingertips now, and she can use these to become an even better racer! She tries to convince her father that maybe they don't have to destroy everything, and can keep some of it intact, but he is not having any of that. He's looked forward to this for years! Realizing that he won't listen, Cruise instead asks for help from the campers, admitting that she was wrong, and needs their help now to stop Professor Rearview. Reluctantly, they choose to believe and trust her, and foil the plans with their racing skills. Once he is stopped, Cruise attempts to hand back over ownership of the garage, but the others insist she keep it. They come to a compromise- they'll share. After all, there's a lot they can all still learn from one another, as people and as racers.

HWLR LEGACY- Meet Roxy!

Roxanne Feng, better known as just Roxy, is the daughter of Cooper “Coop” Feng and Cruise Feng (previously Rearview), and an aspiring kid racer. Growing up around the Ultimate Garage, and constantly being surrounded by some of the best and brightest in Hot Wheels City means she’s had a world of opportunities at a very young age.

Roxy is headstrong and rambunctious, always excited and ready for a new challenge, especially considering she’s tried so much of it already. She’s quick to ask questions when a situation seems off, with a mouth that moves a mile a minute.

Despite growing up with an army’s worth of cars so close by, Roxy has her own custom-made car, the T-Rextroyer, complete with three powers and track-blasters, both as a safe and consistent way for her to learn the ropes, and to keep the other cars available in times of need. The car’s powers include a “Rex Roar” (a sound based ability which allows the user to blast opponents or obstacles off the track, or propel oneself upward or forward), “Tyranna-Teeth” (Using the car’s Dino-like Jaw, it can pick up, redirect, or destroy obstacles), and “Dino Dash” (A temporary speed boost).

In terms of other racers- there has to be! After all, it’s not much of a race if there’s only three competitors. Hot Wheels City is regarded as the world’s top city when it comes to racing and car culture, so there are definitely other racers to be found. No-one else from the canon cast is among this list however, the only three pro racers from the show’s cast are Coop, Axle & Cruise.

HWLR Pokémon AU- A Wild Good Time

(Happy Pokémon Day!)

"This is the battle of the century! Two amazing trainers, each down to their last Pokémon! Who will win? Let's find out!"

An Arcanine vs a Revavroom. He has the type advantage, but against the Champion, that only goes so far.

"Alright Coop, you and your Pokémon better give it all you've got now, cause you know we are!" "I wouldn't have it any other way!" Their Pokémon go in for one final attack...

"Coop, you're daydreaming again!"

The real scene reveals itself; Coop is in an elevator with his dad.

"Sorry dad, I was thinking about how awesome camp will be at..."

The elevator doors open.

"Whoa...the Elite's Base!"

It may have started as just a secret base, but as the trainers that created it grew, so too did it, until it became the wonder it is now.

"Wow! This place is so cool! Oh! Those must be the other campers!"

The five of them were chatting with each other, clearly just as excited about this as Coop was.

"I hope I have what it takes to become a real Top Level Trainer." "If anyone does, it's you Coop. If you ever have doubts, just remember what you tell me: a Top Level Trainer always says..." "Challenge Accepted!" They fist bump, and then the sound of the elevator on the other side of the building could be heard.

"Oh, that's my cue! Gotta go, Dad!"

The elevator doors start to open, and as they do, lights and smoke machines start to go off, turning this simple reveal into a real spectacle! "So cool!"

Finally, the doors fully open, and out steps the current Champion. "Hey there campers, I'm..."

"Dash Wheeler! Champion for the past 10 years!" "Leader of the Elite's Base!" 💛"And a big fan of Belue Berry waffles!"💛

"Well, I guess we can skip my intro! Welcome 💛Spark💛, Mac, Bryce, Axle, 🩶Simon🩶, and Coop! You six were chosen because you have what it takes to be the next generation of Top Level Trainers. We're gonna battle with Pokémon of all kinds, build out your own Secret Bases, and learn what it means to be a Top Level Trainer. The one with the most points gets the prize of facing me in battle!"

The campers all cheer at that.

"Get ready, trainer school starts now! Behold, the wonders of the Elite's Base! Take it away Squeakers...Squeakers, uh, where's Squeakers?"

It sounded like there was a Pokémon nearby. Everyone looked around: there was a Porygon-Z hidden between some boxes. It pushed the boxes out of the way and floated out toward the crowd, making squeaky sounds the whole time.

"Wow!"

The Porygon-Z then connected itself to the Base's systems, showing camera footage of the special areas it contained.

"Whoa! I can't believe my eyes!" "Underground Wild Areas...every kind of environment is here!" "And that means every kind of Pokémon is there too!" "Well, not every kind, but you'd be surprised by what we've got! Now, here, each of you take a Poke Ball- you'll need five Pokémon before we can start battling, and based on the records, all of you only have four. Now, go out and get catching- you have one hour! In the meantime, I'm going to get me a Belue Berry waffle."

Down they go into the wild areas, and right away, some of them spotted just what they wanted to catch.

💛"An Elekid! When it evolves, the power it generates can be used for more things than I can count!"💛 "A Rufflet! That'll get me some big air!" "Is that a Milcery?!" "So many Pokémon! Awesome!" "It doesn't matter which Pokémon you use! I'm going to win the prize!" 🩶"Yeah, he's going to win the prize!"🩶 "Don't worry about those two; Dash picked us because we all have a chance to win!" "So Coop, what Pokémon are you catching?" He looked around for something that really interested him, and then, he saw it: a Ponyta...with blue flames. "That one!" "No way, if anyone's catching a shiny, it's going to be me!" "I don't think so, Axle!" They ran off toward it, pushing and shoving each other as they did...creating so much noise that it ended up spooking the Ponyta!

💛"Look out!"💛 The Ponyta ran toward the others, scattering bits of fire as it ran. It was in such a panic that it wouldn't stop for anything!

"Well, it was nice knowing you...not!" Axle laughs a little, then continues. "Without five Pokemon, no way Dash lets you stay!"

"I can't get kicked out on the first day! I need to catch that Ponyta!" "Well, you're not going to do it alone." 💛"Agreed."💛 "I'll stay and help the Pokémon here." "And when you fail, Simon and I will catch it ourselves, and laugh in your face!" They both begin laughing, perhaps as practice for what they think is going to happen.

"We've got to get going! Top Level Trainers, let's get that Ponyta!" They each select one of the Pokémon they already have! "I need a Pokémon fast enough to catch up with it: come on out, Growlithe!" 💛"I need one that can track it from anywhere: let's go, Shinx!"💛 "And speaking of tracking, this'll help us spot it from above: Skarmory, I choose you!"

The team is selected, now it's time to go, and they sure made it look good! 🩶"Whoa, this is awesome!"🩶 Meanwhile: "Now, where are those waffles? What's a Elite Base Champion have to do to get some waffles around here?"

"There's the Ponyta!" 💛"Coop, let's battle it until it's calm enough to catch!"💛 "You don't have to tell me twice!" He told his Growlithe to Bite, but the Ponyta was too fast to get a solid hit in. "Whoa, this was way easier in my daydream!" Futhermore, each miss startled the Ponyta further, resulting in it unleashing a flurry of Ember attacks, surrounding him! "So this is what the dryer feels like!" The others caught up to him, and a quick Sand Attack smothered the flames.

💛"Are you ok?"💛 "Yep, just a little warm." 💛"It feels like we're never going to catch that Ponyta."💛 "We have to try: a Top Level Trainer always says, Challenge Accepted!" "We won't be Top Level Trainers if we can't battle it enough to catch it." 💛"Wait, maybe there's another way!"💛

Time for a video call. 💛"Bryce, come in, this is Spark."💛 "Bryce here, what's up?" 💛"Is there a way to calm down a Pokémon without battling it?"💛 "Sure is! I'll send something like that your way!" In a moment, a Ralts appeared, holding some special scented treats. It placed the treats a fair distance from the Ponyta, and before long it went up to try them.

"Ok, that should do it!" The Ralts leaves, and the call ends. "Alright, now we can catch it! Let's go!" The Ponyta saw them, and tried to get away, but they were able to block it. "Nope, you're not going this way!" 💛"Not that way, either!"💛 "It's just you and me!"

At least, that's what they thought, until a Riolu showed up and attacked! "Whoa! Where'd that come from?!"

Meanwhile: "Axle, why did you do that? You already caught what you needed!" "So? I'm getting that shiny!" In the background, Simon was playing with the two Farfetch'd of differing types.

The Riolu made an opening for the Ponyta to get away from the others, then it went after it! "Oh no you don't! Growlithe, stop that Riolu!" Growlithe cloaked itself in fire and charged, striking the Riolu with a critical hit! The Riolu fainted, and the Ponyta stopped running away. Instead, it ran right up to Coop, letting him pet it. Strangely, it's fiery mane didn't feel all that hot to him. Then, it bumped the Poke Ball, letting itself be caught. Nothing left to do now but head back up.

"Hold up, explain this to me again, one more time." "Dash, please don't blame Mac and Spark, I caused the Ponyta to run wild. If you want to release it and kick me out, I understand." "Wait, wait, who said anything about kicking anyone out?" "What?!" "The point is, you mistake and you fixed it. You should have seen the stuff I got into when I was a camper." The Porygon-Z weighed in on that, even if very few around could understand it. "Yeah, I know...it was rough. Good job on not just the capture, but already bonding with your new Pokémon!" "The key was to never give up!" "Plus, he had help from his super awesome, totally cool new friends!"

"I'm glad to hear it, because if you thought today was wild, just wait! This is only the beginning of your journey! So, who's ready to battle?!" Everyone shouted in excitement, ready for whatever comes next!

HWLR/Monster High AU: A Wheel Good Time

"Look at that car go! This is the race of the century! Newcomer Coop is about to make history in his favorite car, the GT Scorcher!"

The young phoenix had a confident look on his face; this race was his to win!

"You wanna race? Heh, how you like these hot wheels?"

Some of the others tried to block him, but he could get by easily!

"On your left!"

Time for a real show: "It's not the same without the flame!" He activated his car's power, while also opening the window to let his own fire through.

"Look out, here I come! On your right!" He gets his car to do a flip as it approaches a jump point. "Above you! Yeah!" He crosses the finish line, having his car do a spin as he jumps out into a flying flip of his own. "I did it, I'm Camp Champ!" The crowds cheer his name...

"Coop, you're nightdreaming again!"

The real scene reveals itself; Coop is in an elevator with his dad.

"Sorry Dad, I was thinking about how awesome camp will be at..."

The elevator doors open.

"Whoa...the Ultimate Garage!"

The place is huge, and clearly, the sight of it so close up inspired a sense of awe.

"Wow! This place is so cool! Oh! Those must be the other campers!"

There were five of them: a vampire, a werewolf, a sea monster(with a prosthetic right arm), 🟡a simulacrum🟡, and a gargoyle.

"I hope I have what it takes to be a real Hot Wheels racer." "If anyone does, it's you Coop. If you ever have doubts, just remember what you tell me: a Hot Wheels racer always says..." "Challenge Accepted!" They fist bump, and then, the sound of a car can be heard.

"Oh, that's my cue! Gotta go, Dad!"

A green car races into view of the campers, as they watch excitedly. It starts to spin in a big circle around them. "So cool!"

The car opens up, revealing the driver, a Ceryneian Hind. "Hey there campers, I'm..."

"Dash Wheeler! 10 time Hot Wheels 500 champion!" "Leader of the Ultimate Garage!" 🟡"And a big fan of booberry waffles!"🟡

"Well, I guess we can skip my intro. Welcome 🟡Spark🟡, Mac, Brights, Axle, Sidecar, and Coop! You six were chosen because you have what it takes to be the next generation of Hot Wheels racers. We're gonna race Hot Wheels cars, build amazing tracks with the Track Builder, and learn what it means to be a Hot Wheels racer. The one who gets the most points gets to be Camp Champ!"

The campers all cheer at that.

"Buckle up, racing school starts now! Behold, the wonders of the Ultimate Garage! Take it away Squeakers...Squeakers, uh, where's Squeakers?"

"I'm coming, hold on!" Everyone looked around: there was a robot hidden between some boxes. He pushed the boxes out of the way and rolled out toward the crowd, his wheels squeaking the whole time.

"Wow!"

The robot used one of his tools to reveal all the cars that the garage had to offer.

"Whoa! I can't believe my eyes!" "Experimotors, Street Beasts, the full set of Acceleracers!" "It's every car in Hot Wheels City!" "Sure is! It's not called the Ultimate Garage for nothing! Every car has a special power. You'll use these racing gloves to choose one and complete the challenge. Now, go check out the cars, we will begin in one hour! In the meantime, I'm going to get me a booberry waffle."

🟡"The Twinmill, Dash's favorite car! It's won more races than I can count!"🟡 "I wanna find one that gets me big air!" "I like the taco car!" "So many cars! Awesome!" "It doesn't matter which car any of you pick! I'm gonna be Camp Champ!" "Yeah, he's gonna be Camp Champ!" "Don't worry about those two; Dash picked us because we all have a chance to win!" "How about you Coop, is there a car you're pumped for?" Yes, there was, and right then, he saw it. "The GT Scorcher! I've been dreaming of this car forever!" "No way! If anyone's driving the GT Scorcher first, it's gonna be me!" "I don't think so, Axle!" They both flew off toward it, but being less experienced in flying, Axle bumped into Coop, sending them both off course.

🟡"Look out! Dash's Twinmill!"🟡 Coop slammed into the tire as it was being changed, his fiery wings setting it alight as it began to bounce wildly around the city. "Oh no, the tire!" From so high up, the campers could see all the damage the flaming tire was causing. "So, you launched a flaming tire into Hot Wheels City. I'm sure that happens all the time."

"Breaking news: a flaming tire has been launched into Hot Wheels City for the very first time!"

"Don't worry dude, you probably won't get in trouble."

"Whoever caused this crazy chaos can bet they are in big trouble! Oh no, it's coming straight for me!"

"Well, it was nice knowing you...not!" Axle laughs a little, then continues. "No way Dash lets you stay at camp after this!"

"I can't get kicked out on the first night! I need to stop that tire before it wrecks the whole city!" "Well, you're not gonna do it alone." 🟡"Agreed."🟡 "I'll stay here and work the Track Builder!" "And when you fail, Sidecar and I can laugh in your face!" They both begin laughing, perhaps as practice for what they think is going to happen.

"We gotta put the pedal to the metal. Hot Wheels racers, let's get that tire!" They put their gloves on and select their vehicles. "I want a racer fast enough to catch that runaway wheel. I choose: the GT Scorcher!"🟡"I need a car that can bounce that tire back home. I choose: the Rodger Dodger!" 🟡 "And speaking of bouncing, this truck will get me big air! I choose: the Baja Jump Truck!"

With the cars selected, it's time to get in and go. "You can do this!" The cars go up the lift, the track is made..."Let's race!"

Those still at the garage could see everything. "Whoa, that was awesome!" Provided, of course, that they weren't distracted like Dash was. "Now, where are those waffles? What's an Ultimate Garage hero have to do to get some waffles around here?"

"I see the tire!" 🟡"Coop, let's catch it before it gets away!"🟡 "You don't have to tell me twice!" He sped off to try and get to it, but quickly realized..."This was way easier in my nightdream!" He approached a series of loops ending in a ramp. "Now I know how my underwear feels in the washing machine!" The others took a different path to reach him as he landed.

🟡"Are you okay?"🟡 "Yep, just a little spun out." He looked to see where the tire was. "The tire's going to destroy the city!" 🟡"It feels like we're never going to catch that tire."🟡 "We have to try: a Hot Wheels racer always says, Challenge Accepted!" "We won't be Hot Wheels racers if the tire won't stay on the track." 🟡Flashback time: there was never a flaming tire bouncing around the city before, but there was a regular one, and to stop it, the racers used..."The Track Builder, that's it!"🟡

Time for a video call. 🟡"Brights, come in, this is Spark."🟡 "Brights and Squeakers here!" 🟡"We need you to change the configuration of the tracks to keep the tire on it."🟡 "Rodger that, Rodger Dodger! Squeakers and I are on the job!" A few button presses was all it took. "Track Builder, go!" Now, they just needed to find the tire. "There is it Squeakers! Let's catch it before it does any more damage!" Working together, they managed to redirect the tire back toward the others. "We did it, Squeakers!"

"One runaway tire, heading your way!" "Racers, let's roll! Keep your eyes open; Brights should be getting that tire to us any second!" They looked over..."There it is! Okay team, now's our chance!" They raced off after it. "Okay, let's catch that tire Hot Wheels style!" "Oh yeah! Time for some big air!" Mac went up a curved incline, launching his car into the air and bouncing the tire back. "On your left, Spark!" 🟡"Coop, one runaway wheel coming your way!"🟡, she said as she hit the wheel with the front of her car, bouncing it right in front of his. "Got it now!" He approached a hill shaped road, but as he did, the top of it started to disappear!

"Brights, part of the track is missing!" Back at the Ultimate Garage, Axle had managed to take control of the Track Builder away from Brights. "Axle, you're ruining the track! Coop's gonna fall off!" In her nervousness at the situation, Brights began to bite her right arm. "Looks like your time at camp has officially stalled out, Coop!"

🟡"Oh no!"🟡 "He's not gonna make it!" "I'm not gonna make it!" 🟡"There must be something we can do!"🟡 "We tried everything!" "We tried racing..." 🟡"The Track Builder..."🟡 "The power of friendship..." "Wait, power! What did Dash say about power?"

Every car has a special power...

"Every car has a special power! That's it!" As he approached what was now a jump point, he knew what to do. "Ok GT Scorcher, let's see what you got! Super Speed Burst, activate! Go Hot Wheels!" Just like in the nightdream, it was a flip over the jump point that did the trick! The tire fell on it's side, finally stopping. Coop went over to it to put the flames out while everyone except Axle cheered. "I did it!"

Later, back at the Ultimate Garage: "Hold up, explain this to me again, one more time." "Dash, please don't blame Mac and Spark. I knocked the Twinmill's tire off...and set it on fire. If anyone deserves to be kicked out of camp, it's me." "Wait, wait, who said anything about kicking anyone out?" "What?!" "The point is, you made a mistake and you fixed it. You should've seen the stuff I got into when I was a camper." Squeakers, who was replacing the tire, agreed by saying, "No kidding!" "Yeah, there...there were skid marks. Smart move choosing the GT Scorcher; you picked a car fast enough to catch that wacky wheel!" "The key was to never give up!" "Plus, he had help from his super awesome, totally cool new friends!"

"I'm glad to hear it, because if you thought tonight was wild, buckle up! We are just getting started. Who's ready to race?!" Everyone shouted in excitement, ready for whatever comes next!

HWLR Alterverse AU: A Wheel Good Time

(A story has ended recently[potential specials and sequel series notwithstanding], so to honor that, it's time to start another story: one where things are just a bit different, and yet somehow, it's still the same)

Time for a real show: "Let's heat things up around here!" She activated her car's power, propelling it forward so fast, the track behind it burst into flame!

"Watch out, here I come! On your right!" She gets her car to do a flip as it approaches a jump point. "Above you! Whoo!" She crosses the finish line, having her car do a spin as she jumps out and lands a pose. "I did it, I'm Camp Champ!" The crowds cheer her name...

"Meow!"

The real scene reveals itself; Cruise is in an elevator with her cat.

"Sorry, didn't mean to ignore you. I was thinking about how awesome camp will be at..."

The elevator doors open.

"Whoa...the Ultimate Garage!"

"I hope they'll let me join in." This was a real concern for her- she didn't sign up the way the others did...or at all. "Purrrrr..." She looks down; her cat is looking back up at her with big adorable eyes. "Right: A Hot Wheels racer always says Challenge Accepted!" The two of them walk up toward the others, hearing part of their conversation once they got close enough.

"...race Hot Wheels cars, build amazing tracks with the Track Builder, and learn what it means to be a Hot Wheels racer. The one with the most points gets to be Camp Champ...Oh!" The instructor and the campers noticed that Cruise was there. "Hello there! I'm..."

"Dash Wheeler, 10 time Hot Wheels 500 champion, leader of the Ultimate Garage, and a big fan of raspberry muffins. Yeah, I know."

"Wow, you sure do. But, I was going to say that I'm not sure who you are. Did you apply for this?"

"Wanted to, but couldn't. Figured I'd take a chance and show up anyway."

"Bold move! I can respect that. Tell you what, I'll set up a special challenge for you- if you do well, you can stay."

"Really?! Thanks!"

"No problem! Now then: the wonders of the Ultimate Garage! Take it away, Squeakers...Squeakers, uh, where's Squeakers?"

Squeaky sounds could be heard. Everyone looked around: there was a robot that looked like a mix between a toolbox and a mouse hidden between some boxes. He pushed the boxes out of the way and rolled out toward the crowd, squeaking all the way.

"No way! If anyone's driving the GT Scorcher first, it's gonna be me!" "Oh yeah...ahh!" Her cat had run off toward the mouse robot, playing around with it while it was trying to change the Twinmill's tire. "Get back here!" She ran off after her pet, but ending up going too far and too fast.

HWLR Alterverse AU: Night Fright

It's nighttime in the city, but the campers at the Ultimate Garage weren't ready for bed quite yet- far from it!

"Hello, Hot Wheels City! We know some of you are still worried about everything that happened at the car wash- truth be told, we are too." 💛"But until we get more info on either situation, there's not much we can do about them."💛 "So until then, here's something we can do: share our awesome skills with all of you!" "And here's what it's going to be tonight: a 720 daredevil twist! It's never been done before, but I'm ready to try!" With that, off she went, the others watching and recording...and success! "Alright, let's see how that looked on the stunt board!" "Whoa...the score has never gone this high before!" "And now you all know: no matter what the challenge, we'll face it, no fear!" Just then, all the lights in the city went out.

💛"What's happening?"💛 "AHH!", Mac shrieked as she jumped into Spark's arms. Thankfully, the lights at the Ultimate Garage turned back on quickly enough. "Uhh...that was a victory scream, for landing that sweet stunt!" At this point, Dash and Squeakers came up to check on the campers. 🐭*squeaking sounds*🐭 "Yes, Squeakers, you were right: keeping that power generator in the Ultimate Garage was very smart. Everything ok?" A video newscast displayed on the phone answered that. 🎤"Breaking news: things are not okay! The power's off across the city, and my phone is at 10 percent battery. Oh, and every traffic light is out! The traffic enforcers are doing what they can, but with them being understaffed, if the power isn't turned back on soon, Hot Wheels City could become a parking lot forever! Ahh! Now I'm at five percent!"🎤

💛"We can't let the city become an oversized parking lot. Dash, how can we help?"💛 "In order to restart the power, you'll need to turn on a generator in the tunnels underneath the city. You can do this by driving your cars onto the parking pads- but, all six of you need to activate one of these pads if you're gonna succeed." "Alright racers, you heard Dash; it looks like we're all heading to the tunnels to turn that generator on!" Five of them ran off, excited...but the last was much more hesitant. "Wait, tunnels? Like in the dark?!"

A few moments later, the campers were ready to select their cars for this mission, but while they were racing off to do so, Cruise noticed that Mac was trailing behind. "Hey Mac, you feeling ok?" "Well...no, actually." The others doubled back- this seemed important to hear. "Thing is...I'm afraid of the dark. I didn't want to say anything before because, well, everyone sees me as this super brave daredevil girl...but if you don't anymore, I understand." "It's ok to be scared, we're all afraid of something- like being completely alone!" 💛"Or getting a bad grade."💛 🩶"Or those inflatable dancing things at car dealerships. They're always waving..."🩶 "Or your family hating you forever because you went against what they wanted to pursue your own dreams." The two of them looked at each other- neither expected the other to say the exact same thing, and the surprise of it made them blush a bit. "Uhh...less talking, more racing?" "Agreed- we've got a city to save!"

"I want to help, but I don't know if I can face my fear of the dark. It's why I use my green turtle nightlight when I go to bed." "Whoa, back it up there- the Ultimate Garage has a green turtle car. What if we turn it into a night light?" "Ooh, let me ask: Squeakers!" He went to talk to her. "*squeaking sounds* That's mouse speak for 'can we make our cars glow in the dark?'" And apparently, they could! "Dude, I could totally be part of the challenge if I'm driving a racer that glows in the dark! Ooh, a Glow Racer- that's gonna stick! Let's gear up, for real this time!" "Challenge accepted!"

"We need cars that can light up the dark tunnels." "I want a car that'll help me face my fear of the dark- and look like my nightlight. I choose: the TURTOshell Glow Racer!" "I choose: the Shark Bite Glow Racer!" "I choose: the Rodger Dodger Glow Racer!" 💛"I choose: the RocketFire Glow Racer!"💛 "I choose: the Hi-Roller Glow Racer!" 🩶"I choose: the Rip Rod Glow Racer!"🩶 Cars selected, all lined up, and off they went to save the day! "Now this is what I call a glow-up!"

Driving in the dark was a lot easier for all of them now! Before long, they made it to the tunnels. "Whoo! This Glow Racer makes driving in the dark really fun!" "Racers, we need you to hurry! This gridlock keeps getting worse. The traffic lights are still out and the enforcers can't keep up for much longer. You have to get that generator back on." "We're on it, Dash!" They kept on going, and got to where they needed to be. "Yes, the generator!" 💛"Quick, onto the parking pads! We need to rev our engines and restart it!"💛 They did so, and at first, it looked like it worked! "We did it!" "Yeah, that was awesome!" "Sure was- we had it in the bag." But then, the power they had made faded away.

🩶"What's going on? We drove on the pads, so why isn't the generator working?"🩶 "It looks like there's a switch on the very top! Maybe we need to flip it!" "But no one can drive up there, it's impossible." 💛"According to my calculations, there's one way to do it: by performing a 720 daredevil twist!"💛 "Don't look at me; I only did it once, and that was in the light!" "This is the challenge now; let's face it, no fear!" With a moment to consider that and take a breath, Mac was ready to go. "Ok, let's light it up! Shell Shine, activate! Go Hot Wheels!" The stunt was done, the switch flipped, and with another round of driving on the pads, the generator was back on, and so were all the lights!

"Way to go! Hot Wheels City is back to normal. And creating those Glow Racers? Fantastic idea!" 💛"It's all thanks to Mac! She gave us the idea for the Glow Racers."💛 "And nailed a 720 daredevil twist- in the dark!" "A 720 daredevil twist? Whoo! Epic. I was always too afraid to attempt that stunt back in my day. Mac, because of your bravery, I think you deserve..." The scoreboard appeared on screen, and a new Flame Badge was given! "This girl's got a Flame Badge!"
