HWLR: Future AU- Casual Outfit References (Coop & Cruise)
I’ve drawn these designs a few times, so I found it befitting to make proper references for these two looks! While the racers don’t get many days where something isn’t going on (wether that’s races, training, events, advertising or something else entirely), it would be silly to spend the days you do have off in the racing gear… even if they’re still incredibly recognisable without it on.
Like my previous design references, I made these to use for myself, but wanted to share the full looks as I’ve drawn them before, and they have changed or evolved in little ways as I’ve refined them. They also include abridged descriptions for both characters, and a few design notes.
Bonus! Some of the developmental material and further annotation on these looks! A small look into my process and some of the choices I made in designing and finalising these looks. You can also spot some scrapped or unused concepts on the visual inspiration boards, and what stayed the same. As always, any and all questions regarding the AU are open!

Don’t try to run
Day 3.1 - Werewolves
This is a tribute to one of my favorite TV shows that just ended: Teen Wolf but it’s lutteo.
And for today, I made two fics, this is the first one. It’s dark and painfully. The other is happy and fluffy and simbar: 7 steps of becoming a werewolf
I hope you like it. Enjoy!
Warning: Death.
Thank you Lele @silveranchor for proofreading. Don’t you ever forget to dance valsa, okay? Love ya!
Since I was a kid I always heard my mother tell :
"When you are being hunted, you need to hide heal. Don't try to run."
Being from a werewolf family, this kind of lesson is spread repeated daily all the time. They were always remembering me how dangerous it is to hide a whole a werewolf family but at least the pack as together always so when I asked to stay in Buenos Aires, I was sick and tired of moving all the time even if it was to keep Balsano pack safe, I wanted to live and stay.
For the first I had two best friends who knew about my condition, Ámbar was her own alfa, she was born a werewolf but never met her family so she just accepted her need to survive, and Gastón was a human, he was Ámbar's friend since they were kids, he was used to her life. Soon we were always together, I didn't need to pretend anything and they were there to everything. Ámbar and I dated for a while but it didn't work at all, we are fine and over that.
Anyway, I had many reasons to stay and the main one was the short brunette with those big sparkling eyes.
My family let me stay with a bunch of warnings and rules in the mansion. And for the first time in my life, I had two years in the same place with the same friends, I felt I could finally be normal, almost forgot I was not.
For a while, it worked, my grades and music were everything I cared but suddenly it wasn’t enough, I wanted Luna. I noticed we had drama class together and that her best friend Nina was nice and shy, I could talk to her for knowing stuff about Luna. She told me Luna loved skating and spend the whole day in Jam & Roller rink.
Eventually, I spend my days in the rink, trying to seem casual and not that was creepy watching her skate and for most distracted Luna was she noticed me there. And when I was seating watching skaters for the fifth time that week:
“Hey! Have you ever considered skating?” Luna sat by my side, going straight for the point she was curious about. It was scary to see her eyes this close, so bright as if it could light up the darkest of nights.
“Never.” I answered trying to look cool, not scared by those tiny moons staring at me.
"Don't you wanna try?" She asked eyeing her pink skates. "You came here the whole week and just watched, you could try it." Insisting she kept playing with her skates on the bench. "I can help." I heard it so low that I thought I've imagined.
"Help me?"
"Yeah, in the beginning... Well if you want to continue I'll keep helping but..." Luna babbled fast shaking her dark locks around.
"Fine. I'll let you help me." I accepted smirking, she flashed a smile to me then frown.
"You let me help you?" Luna repeated, I nodded holding my laugh. "You can try alone, don't need me for this." She stood and walked to lockers, getting me thinking she truly left me there and that would be all our story but she showed up on the door. "Don't you need a skater? No, no, you're waiting for me to bring it here. Sorry Cinderella, I can't carry them all so you need to stand up." If she had been able to hide her grin, I would have believed she was angry at me.
I walked to the lockers, picked one of the white skates they lend there and we went to the rink. She taught me the basic first: How to fall with hurting yourself. Then learned this was the most fundamental topic for her because she really was clumsy and fell a lot.
I've spent weeks learning to skate with her, she always said it was impressive how quick I was learning which made me feel guilty, I knew the reason to get better so fast was being a werewolf and it annoyed me that I couldn't tell her.
And the old stories about werewolves in love with humans, I knew how it ended, a long way down to tragedy although I couldn't help but fell in love with her. I waited the whole day to get to the rink with her. Ámbar started to worry about it and decided she would go with me.
"Hi, Lunita. I heard a lot about you." Ámbar greeted smiling, I scratched my neck. My stomach turning, having Ámbar there was the worst set I could think of. "You're shorter than I thought."
"Hi. Yeah, you must be Ámbar." Luna answered but Ámbar already lost her interest in Luna, watching someone behind her, Luna noticing that turned. "Oh, this is Simón my best friend." I nodded smiling him but he stared at Ámbar.
"Hey!" He said breaking the connection to Ámbar. "Hm Luna, I need you for a second." Simón called Luna, eyeing Ámbar again. Luna smiled apologizing to us and left.
"What are you doing?" I inquired Ámbar who had her eyes narrowed. "He's just human. Where is your concern for werewolves being involved with humans now?'
"He is not human." Her only answer, her tone sounded absolutely sure of her words.
"What?" I replied confused, she looked determinate. "Can you leave him alone?"
"No."
"Ámbar..."
"Luna!" She bubbled making me notice Luna coming back. "Ready?"
"Yes." Luna lied, I could tell perfectly she was lying.
"So let's start." Ámbar squealed in fake excitation, heading to the rink. Ámbar already knew how to skate so she started some steps, now that she had a different thing to focus her attention, it was easier to have her on the rink. I kept observing Luna and once she noticed my eyes, smiled calm to me, taking me by the hand to skate. While we were there, I made everything possible to bring her smile, to hear her laugh again, nothing was enough. I was going crazy, she didn't trust me with her problems and I couldn't blame her, I kept a huge secret from her myself. Suddenly, Luna fell and ran to help her.
"Seems like you like more the floor than I like you." It escaped from my mouth, I was cursing all my ancestors from ages but Luna opened a sparkling smile, she was already standing on her feet, our hands still entangled from helping her, the gap between was little too short to be healthy.
"Do you want to go out with the girl you like?" Luna asked giggling. My heart raced at this view.
"Yes." I assured her nodding and by an impulse, I hugged her tightly. "Sorry." I let her go. The bright of the moon was back in her eyes, shining as it was the full moon, even if I avoided the full moon, her eyes would always make me a dreamer, I was fearless standing under the shine of that moon.
"Friday at 7?"
"Friday at 7."
From Tuesday afternoon until Friday night, every plan for a date ran through my mind: movies, party, driving, video games, coffee, fancy dinner, camping, even fishing but it needed to be unique and I wasn't able to create it, it needed to be meaningful, to be us. Finding myself in a dark corner, I went to my friends.
"You're going out with Luna?" Gastón wondered showing how he that was the only part he heard. "Ámbar, wasn't you going there that day to stop it from happening?" Ámbar just raised her head from her phone, she's been busy with her phone the whole week.
"I got distracted." She replied biting her bottom lip.
"You what? Her life in danger and you got distracted." Gastón hissed, it was offending.
"Her life isn't in danger." I retorted.
"Ámbar, tell him about the hunters." Gastón murmured frowning.
"I knew it! He is from Marcos pack." Ámbar yelled jumping from the sofa where she was laying, we looked at her questioning her sanity. "Simón, the best friend, is werewolf, Marcos pack. He is from Mexico."
"There's another pack in Buenos Aires?" Gastón quizzed. "Tell him..."
"Matteo! You came for another thing." Ámbar interrupted him. "What was it?" She was acting weird but I needed to focus on the date of this night.
"My date, I don't know what to do."
"About? Outfit? Food?" Ámbar replied counting on her fingers.
"Everything," I admitted. "Not the outfit, I know that part."
"Good because I thought I lost my best friend now." Gastón commented, Ámbar rolled her eyes.
"What is so difficult? Take her to some fancy dinner, movies." Ámbar suggested seeming careless.
"It's exactly that, it can't be anything like that." I worried.
"Take her to dance, that's how you've met, do something related to that." She said looking at her phone again. It was her suggestion that made me plan the date, it gave me ideas of what to do, the date appeared clearly on my mind.
"Sure, that is it." I sang and kissed her forehead earning a grimace. When closed the door I heard Gastón's voice saying.
"You need to tell him."
"Not yet, he'll freak out." Ámbar replied angrily.
"Then when his date is tonight?" Gastón fretted.
"And we will there too." She warned him. After that, I went to my house to set everything to the date but the words hunters, danger, werewolves seemed to keep revolving in my head. Once the time has come I picked her up in her house, gladly she was already waiting so there wasn't any awkward moment around her family.
"You look beautiful." The first thing that left my lips, it was a fact, in that red dress, Luna looked completely stunning. "Hey!"
"Hi." She blushed making her eyes even brighter. We went into the taxi, to get to my house. "Where are we going?" That question was tricky and needed a careful answer, of course, it came out thoughtless because of my confused mental state.
"To my house." As it left my mouth, her eyes were wide.
"Your parents are there?" She questioned showing hesitance, I shook my head slowly afraid of her reaction. "Not very wise of me to accept it."
"Don't trust me?" I replied a bit disappointed but a part of me was proud of her, this was a very clever decision actually.
"I trust you." Terrible decision, Luna. My heart ached by seeing a confidence in her eyes while she locked them to mine. If only I told her what I really am...
"Which house?" The taxi driver asked.
"The one on the right with the red gate." He pulled in front the gate, I paid and got us inside the house. There was no one inside, as expected it was just us. The silence surrounded us, I tried to think of anything to say.
"What our first plan for tonight?" Luna asked observing the living room.
"Are you hungry?" I sat on the big sofa and she followed me sitting close.
"Not yet." With that response, the lasagna was delayed and a little change in the schedule in my head was made.
"Okay, the first part is dancing." I announced and she tilted her head confused. "Do you know how to dance waltz?"
"No." She voiced slowly, I stood up and reached out for her hand, she took it.
"Then it's time to learn." I pulled her to my chest, taking her hands to the right spots. Having her so close again almost made me forgot I haven't turned the stereo on, so I turned it on and came to the same place with Luna. "You thought me how to skate, I'll teach how to dance." Again, her eyes burnt brightly as the full moon was staring at me. We danced for almost an hour, she learned how to spin and get back, some leaps which she compared to skating in duo, we were getting the step when she had to fall back and I had caught her before she hits the floor. She threw herself going to the floor fast and when I catch her, the floor was just a few winches.
The position wasn't very comfortable so I laid her on the floor careful and was getting up to get her standing but her hands on my shoulder retained me, making me stay, pulling me closer until our lips crash into each other. Somehow, I've managed to lay with her without breaking the kiss, the touches, caress, and velocity of the moment was heating. We stopped breathless, the world outside was nothing but a blurred memory.
"I'm accepting food now." Luna giggled above me, making me laugh.
"Kissing me makes you hungry?" I asked still laughing, getting up and bringing her with me.
"Yep." She pointed the 'p' while we went to the kitchen.
"I'll need to buy more food next you come." I confessed heading to the stove and taking the lasagna out. The table was already set, we just sat next to each other, started eating and keep chatting, by the end of the dinner I was taking the dishes because we needed to take her home and we wanted to walk there to enjoy the way.
"What would you have done if I knew waltz?" Luna asked curiously, we were walking side hugged on her street, her house was two blocks ahead.
"I'd teach you tango, or any of the 4 dances I'm certified teacher in." I told her proud, I never felt so proud of being my mom partner in those classes, maybe not proud, more like grateful, shame still hanging there. "In the worst case, we would watch a movie and play uno."
"Uno? Did you want us to break up before anything?" Luna joked, a soft sound behind was got my attention but I ignored it.
"You're not competitive, we would be okay." I retorted and again another sound, I looked back to search where it came from.
"I know I'm not, but you are competitive." Luna laughed and I tried to seem fine. "If ever won, you would be highly offended." Then a loud sound behind us was heard, loud and strong as an explosion, we turned back and three people dressed in black with guns pointed to us. Hunters.
I knew I had to hide but I needed to keep her safe, she was my priority in the moment, she had nothing to do with that. I took her hand in mine. Her house was close enough for to get her inside safe.
"Run!" I yelled pulling her in front of me to protect her, the gunshots were surrounding us. They were stopped suddenly and I looked back to see Ámbar and Simón beating the hunters while Gastón runs after me. I would fight them for hiding stuff from me and letting Luna in danger for it. I stopped making Luna stop too, ready to fight them but well Luna didn't stop, she fell on the ground with her hands in her chest. Blood, all I could see I was her blood staining her red dress making it darker. "Luna!" I screamed kneeing and embracing her. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I cried.
"Shh, it's not your fault." She shushed, her skin getting paler and her mouth bleeding. She was dying. Gastón arrived and eyed her desperately, then Ámbar and Simón appeared looking hopeless. Luna shut her eyes.
"No, no, no, stay, please stay." I murmured sobbing and rocking her. "I can't lose her. Help me!" I begged to them.
"It's your fault, she..." Simón cursed.
"Shut up!" Ámbar ranted back in response.
"You could give her the bite. As a werewolf she can heal, right?" Gastón suggested trying to find a solution. I looked at Ámbar.
"Well, we don't have any alfa here." Simón retorted angry and desolated.
"Ámbar, please." I begged again crying, seeing my state she didn't deny, Ámbar kneeled in front of me. I was forgetting to ask Luna if she wanted that, to live as a werewolf or to die. "Wait. Luna, do you know? Do you want?" But she was no longer answering so I nodded to Ámbar and she bit Luna's arms. A second later a blow of life made her seem better. It was just a brief second.
"I'm sorry, I never told you. I'm a..." Her eyes opened, the bright of it still the same.
"I know, I think I always knew." She paused between her whispers to take a deep breath. "Since I first saw you, I knew it." She smiled and where before had blood now was turning black. Ámbar gasped and stood up taking a step back, a tear streaming down her face.
"What is happening?" Gastón asked shocked, their voices were fading away, the only thing I could hear was Luna's weak breath.
"Some people just aren't born for it." Ámbar answered in breaking voice.
"I love you." Luna mouthed before shut her eyes, the last time I would ever see those big sparkling eyes.
