Other stuff I’m thinking about that’s funny to me but probably not to the rest of you:
Danzo doing something to upset genin Naruto, and Naruto pranking Danzo in a way that’s actually really terrifying, like sneaking into his house completely undetected, leaving behind “blood” on the walls that calls out Danzo’s past sins (his sins being whatever he did to upset Naruto, but considering all the shit Danzo’s done, he’s become convinced it’s vengeful ghosts), getting into Danzo’s secret stuff that was supposed to be untouchable, etc
This whole thing ends up getting to Danzo (especially after Naruto fucks with the hokage monument to mess with Danzo, accidentally convincing him that Tobirama, who Danzo looks up to, is disgusted by what he’s done) and he has a bit of a breakdown and confesses to all of his sins pretty early on in canon
Everyone else who hears about what he’s done and what made him crack are all also low key convinced it was vengeful ghosts who’ve had enough of him, Naruto just stays really quiet cause he had no idea this would be the outcome, he just wanted apology ramen

Okay so I've been having thoughts about the time up until Shisui's death (specifically the hope au) and it's driving me insane. Anyways, do you ever think about how exhausted Shisui probably was mentally, emotionally, and physically? Like first off, where would he have even felt comfortable to sleep let alone allow himself to with everything going on? Like he's been distancing from his teammates, they've practically been avoiding each other from both sides, and Shisui found out a group of supposed "anbu" were following him that one time so the dorms are out. He hadn't accepted his room at the Yamanaka house as his yet and he wouldn't have wanted to be around Ino when he was so stressed- plus he would have spilled info to Inoichi whether he wanted to or not. The Uchiha compound was being watched and just not a great environment with everything going on, let alone him having to sleep in an empty house. The only person he could really talk to was his literal kid cousin he was always trying to protect so that's a no go- he was essentially cut off entirely from his support system while also having to repeatedly deal with his uncle, the clan elders, and Danzo. He was pretty much forced into a dangerous mission mindset with no breaks in a place he was supposed to be safe and able to rest and y'know /not/ deal with the world ending stress of trying to save both your clan and your village where even a small mistake could be fatal. Then! He gets betrayed by Danzo, who's supposed to be a village superior he should be able to trust! He gets attacked in his own village, all alone, has his eye stolen, gets poisoned, and all of that horrible stuff! Doesn't help that he has literal reality warping eye powers so losing his eye by a treasonous bloodline thief is terrifying!! With him being poisoned, possibly had his grandfather's eye used against him, missing one of his own eyes, probably in shock, terrified, and exhausted it's no wonder he wasn't exactly making great choices. Even if he didn't consciously think it- he was a tired, traumatized 19 year old who was extremely stressed and probably just wanted to get out of this situation. Also let's not forget that because he was still in his mission mindset, he was pretty much locked on to the goal of doing whatever it takes to protect his clan and village so he probably didn't even think about trying to get help from his teammates or sensei to /save his own life/ because he grew up prioritizing others (his cousin, his clan, his village, etc) over himself and that was even before he was cut off from his support system!! And even in his final moments he uses his own death as a tool!! Like I can't even be mad at him or think what he did was stupid because like- it's understandable why he did what he did even though I absolutely hate that it happened. How did Inoichi even let him out of his sight?? I could never. I want to wrap him up in a warm blanket and never let him go, y'know after i kill Danzo with my bare hands.
Honestly this ask just reaaaaally made me want to delve into Inoichi's POV, like what if Shisui is the puppy to his John Wick???? He just starts fucking dropping people and Danzo is like GET ME OUT OF HERE?!?!!
Glorious 👌
But anyway, Anon this ask hurted so good 🥹 owie, thanks for breaking our hearts all over again for the millionth time ❤

I don't think I've ever explored a redemption AU as fully as it deserves.
Itachi goes through with the Massacre. Goes and joins the Akatsuki. Everything happens as normal except that something happens after the fight between Itachi and Sasuke. Itachi falls. Sasuke assume he's dead, but is weak and collapsed himself. He's taken away by Obito but Itachi isn't completely dead. Not yet. And someone or something prevents Obito from taking Itachi's body to take his eyes.
A root agent, tasked by Danzo with recovering Itachi so that his eyes can be harvested. Danzo is traveling to the 5 kage summit and so they have to keep Itachi alive to preserve his eyes until Danzo's return.
Obito still tells Sasuke the truth about his brother. And Sasuke still attacks the 5 Kage summit. But before he's stopped, Danzo makes some taunt about Itachi that stops Sasuke in his tracks. The other Kage don't know what to make of it but to Sasuke it's clear.
Danzo is implying that Itachi is alive. And under his thumb.
Without Itachi's eyes, Sasuke can't take Danzo out on his own. He doesn't want to bring Taka into this. This is between him, Itachi and the village.
And as luck would have it, he runs into the one other person who's recently learned about Itachi's past.
Naruto. Having failed to convince the Raikage to recind the execution order on Sasuke and having heard Itachi's story from Obito, Naruto is down trodden and desperately trying to figure out any way to help his friend and fix the harm the village has caused.
There's a tense moment as the two come face to face, ready for a fight. But Sasuke just pushes past Naruto. Naruto tries to stop him and Sasuke explodes at Naruto, seething about how nothing is going to stop him from bringing his brother back.
Naruto is confused and eventually manages to get it out of Sasuke that Itachi might be alive in the village somewhere. And Naruto sees his chance. His chance to save Sasuke, to do the right thing. And even if Sasuke doesn't want his help, well that's never stopped him in the past.
Que Naruto and Sasuke teaming up to infiltrate root and get Itachi out.
Itachi is hooked up to life support when they find him. There's a IV drip keeping him in a coma. All of root is a massacre.
Danzo shows up just as they're trying to figure out how to move Itachi. But instead of Sasuke with Itachi's eyes, it's Naruto and Sasuke together. Danzo still puts up a hell of a fight with his stolen sharingan. And for a moment it looks like he might actually escape. Not a win but a draw. Naruto takes a bad hit. Sasuke gets knocked back and Danzo runs in, hoping to either kill Sasuke or take one of his eyes before running when he goes stock still and pale as a sheet.
Sasuke and Naruto turn around to see Itachi, sitting up and shaking, blood pouring from his eye as the mangekyo flairs to life. Putting Danzo in the Tsukuyomi and using every ounce of strength he has to protect his brother.
It's enough. Sasuke seizes the opportunity and lands the final blow, his blade directly through Danzo's heart.
Kakashi and Tenzo are the first to find them down in root. It's chaos for a while as the whole village reels from the return of Sasuke and Itachi and the truth that comes with them. It takes a while before they can convince everyone but it helps once Tsunade wakes up and acknowledges that Itachi has continued to spy on the village.
Itachi is kept in the hospital. He's back in a coma for a long while, several weeks hes still kept in restraints and under high security lock down. Sasuke is imprisoned, but as long as he is kept apprised of Itachi's condition he doesn't press the issue.
The fourth great Shinobi war comes about and suddenly they need every bit of help they can get. There's a few people who are against letting Sasuke out but Naruto, Kakashi and Tsunade are difficult to argue against and the fact is they need him. Itachi is still too weak to fight, but his intelligence, tactical mind and his experience with Obito and the Akatsuki are invaluable. There are still countless casualties, but just as many are saved by the Uchiha brothers.
When it's all said and done, everyone agrees that the Uchiha have proven themselves to the village. Much of the village is still unease with their presence in the village. It's not an easy transition, but Itachi and Sasuke become regular figures. Sasuke becomes a high up in the Anbu, tasked with rooting out any additional corruption in the village. Itachi is allowed his time to heal.

i honestly miss fluffy tms au so much, let sukea terrorize anbu and root for a change of pace he deserves it 😂😂 old cartoon comedy ensue whenever gai turns his back and sukea continues smiling menacingly and while mouthing vague words that seem threatening, but under his breath he's just muttering bullshit like a list of his dinner whilst looking straight on at his prey- i mean, at the hidden masked spies in the shadows, with canine teeth bared and all that, good lord mission reports of spying on this troll must sound like a fever dream lol
Sukea would be such a beautiful little shit. Root and Anbu have no idea how to deal with him and the friends he has in Konoha have no idea he’s doing any of this.
They seriously think he’s just the sweetest dude who would never hurt a soul.
Ok, you have a few who sort of know. Like he goes full scary mode if he wants to even when Anko’s looking right at him and she loves it.
He hides it from Gai and Rin because he’s not shre how they would handle it if they found out he was actually a little menace giving Konoha’s super secret murder corps heart attacks with that terrifying smile of his XD
Root Operatives especially get the brunt of his act. He might act nice to Anbu operatives, but not if they’re at all rude to Rin.
But there’s bo restriction on Root operatives. They’re getting the full creepy act and not one of them is doing ok. Danzo has read reports from them that make him question bringing in a therapist because these operatives are DAMAGED and not in the ways he wants them to be

I want to write a Role Swap AU that Naruto and Sasuke switch places but I don't know how to make some plot points happen like, Naruto did not become a renegade because he had Iruka, Teuchi, Ayame and Hiruzen in his life while Sasuke become a renegade revenger because of his clan being murdered by his brother by Danzo's orders. How can I put Iruka, Ayame, Teuchi and Hiruzen outta Naruto's life and how can I do not make the Uchiha planing a coup in order to the massacre do not happen?
Kind of a long answer, but I’ve made a numbered list.
1. Pick a point in the timeline to diverge. Potential options:
Post-Nine Tails Attack before the Uchiha were segregated. (Approx. 7 yrs pre-massacre, 12 yrs pre-canon)
Pre-Shisui’s death (Approx. 1 yr pre-massacre, 6 yrs pre-canon)
Post-Shisui’s death (Approx. 0-1 yr pre-massacre, 5-6 yrs pre-canon)
2. Eliminate Danzo. Potential Options:
Kill him off (Characters I consider capable and potentially willing: Tsunade, Orochimaru, Kabuto, Hiruzen, Shisui if Danzo’s alone or if Shisui has Itachi with him, MS Itachi avenging Shisui, Anko, Fugaku & Mikoto date night, four-tails state baby Naruto, Inoichi, Shibi, Konan, Nagato, Kakazu) (Events I consider capable of this: The Nine-Tails attack, accident during or after one of the surgeries Orochimaru performed on him, heart attack, stroke, etc.)
Expose him for his crimes (The characters that would do this are the same as above)
Factors to consider here
Eliminating Danzo eliminates Root. So depending where we are, Sai will enter the main cast earlier than usual and Shin will probably still be alive.
Itachi didn’t know about the massacre long-term. He was only informed a few days prior because the time crunch put pressure on him (people forget this and make everyone hate him for almost killing them).
4. Eliminate Hiruzen. Potential options:
Have Danzo’s downfall discredit him. The clan heads call for government reforms and a new Hokage. He retires in disgrace.
Kill him
5. Pick a new Hokage. Potential options:
Bring Tsunade in early
Jiraiya IS an option even if he’s a bad one
Fugaku, but this could give the Uchiha too much political power too fast
Shikaku could definitely do it
Hiashi has some seniority even if he’s evil
Unkill a character (Nawaki, Dan, Sakumo, Hizashi)
Use an OC. Though, readers might not like this.
6. Eliminate Iruka. Potential options:
Just, like, delete his character from the story. Make it so he was never there.
Kill him off
Have him never become a schoolteacher
Change his and Naruto’s relationship so they aren’t close (this is actually the best option if Hiruzen isn’t there to be connective tissue).
As for Ayame and Teuchi, I don’t think you need to do anything with them if Hiruzen and Iruka are out of the picture.
Lmk if u have more questions <3

hi, obito anon again! thanks so much for your answer! (« baby moose » fucked me up it’s adorable) obito is totally endearing as a young character and interesting as he grows. for the redemption thing, i was also talking about the kyubi attack (i still don’t fully get the point assise from sheer vengeance). and i totally agree with you that his change of heart in the war arc is strange, esp since kakashi’s speech is like... not good, and doesn’t address most of obito’s issues with (1/2)
(1/2) the shinobi world. fighting with someone just because he cares doesn’t absolve any of the suffering caused by the system naruto is precisely defending and it’s kinda heartbreaking that kakashi is unable to form his own point. in an obito-lives au, is he still trying to change the shinobi system? (also loved your last rin drawing, it’s soft) SO. it’s happening. i’m not sure how much time passed. hope you are still alive, ma dude!!!!  the whole vengeance dilemma- i simply don’t have it! because a) i love obito and i’ve spent way too much time in this fandom to care about m*nato or konoha or hundreds of village npcs; b) i actually find it *just* in a pretty twisted way. it was the village, the hokage (as a Title) that had failed obito in the first place, and it was the hokage (as a person) who’d left both him and rin to die in the literally meaningless war - both deaths having little to no effect on villagers, on the government, on the course of war, both probably forgotten in several days. something about the idea of a nameless casualty becoming the force that destroys konoha is incredibly appealing to me tbh :) it’s just-- the whole attack is inhumane and awfully cruel, and there were a lot of innocent victims BUT. but. at that moment obito is still aching and angry in a very human way, and he is overreacting, in a human and therefore violent way as well, and it’s something that we rarely see in konoha’s heroes and defenders. it’s the opposite of konoha’s ideology, and it’s most likely considered a weakness - except this time it overpowers the village. if we think of it as a sort of confrontation between obito and minato, this can become even clearer: obito revenges over his friend (and himself) on the village, minato sacrifices his son for it. human vs institution. kinda. if you squint. plus, as with most of obito’s antics, we must remember that at that time he’s been dead once, revived, brainwashed by madara and losing his personality, and he also had a mind-controlling seal. i’m not really trying to justify the attack - of course, there must have been a good old revenge motive behind it - but i find myself incapable of condemning it either.  the second question is UGHH. Hard. i am in love with his characterization from NFWMB (as yall know), and i’m kinda stuck on the idea that he has A Lot of more urgent issues at hands. it depends greatly on the verse, and if we are talking about my *main* verse for the past year (surviving root operative rin, her weird pseudo-relationship with kakashi, their conflict and involvement with anbu/root and danzo-hiruzen even weirder pseudo-relationship, all the mystery about obito’s survival, etc, etc), he’s pretty busy...then, at this point obito has virtually no chance of becoming hokage. i guess, deep inside he still believes in good things and possible changes but at the same time he must be *very* disenchanted with shinobi world in general.

The Jinchuuriki (Minato x Reader)
Summary: Canon divergent AU. Danzo steals the two Uzumaki sisters from their village and seals the Kyuubi inside one of them. He separates them and keeps the Jinchuuriki captive in the Root headquarters. When she grows up alone, until the Hokage orders Danzo to have her trained to fight. Her new tutor arrives, and he’s nothing like she expected. He’s kind and he cares for her. His name is Minato.
Characters: Y/N (Female Reader as the Jinchuuriki), Minato, Danzo, and Kushina
A/N: To the lovely @itsao-mine for requesting and waiting so long, I apologize, you’re my most loyal reader. I hope you really do enjoy this, because it took me so long to write. I think it’s a warm story that you’ll like. To everyone else, I hope you love this story too. I apologize in advance for my incompetence in writing fight scenes. Remember requests are open. Enjoy and be kind <3
Word Count: 4,624
The Jinchuuriki
“From now on, you’re not sisters anymore” you didn’t understand what the man was saying. His face instilled a deep fear in you, as you imagined farfetched stories about how he got that ugly scar on his chin. His uncovered eye made you uneasy, and the covered one, even more.
You clutched Kushina’s hand tighter with your own small one, and looked at her in search of the reassurance that this man was lying.
You and your sister had been plucked from your home, your village, and everything you knew by this man and brought to the Leaf Village without any explanation about it. The only thing you knew was that something in your Uzumaki lineage made you the perfect vessel for a weapon that the Leaf Elders were desperate to keep and control. Your 8 year old brain didn’t fully grasp what this meant, but Kushina and you’d overheard that in a conversation two of the ANBU ninjas had on your way to your new village.
You noticed a streak of sadness cross your sister’s face and your stomach twisted inside you. The man, Danzo they called him, harshly grabbed both yours and your sister’s wrists and tore your hands apart. He handed each of you to a masked ninja, a rabbit and a bear, and you never saw each other again.
They put you through the worst nightmare you couldn’t even have imagined. They locked you up in a dark room, and when they finally let you see light, it was only to painfully seal a demon in you, using the techniques stolen from your family.
You felt the beast stir inside you at night. Now, alone, you cried yourself to sleep and imagined Kushina’s arms wrapped around you, her soft voice singing slightly off-key the lullaby your aunt had taught you, while the personification of hate growled from within your gut.
The first months were pure hell to you, you’d go on rampages and destroy everything in sight, using the beast’s chakra and your own rage. This earned you being put in a cell and chained with chakra suppressing metals. Then, it was just you and him. The Kyuubi became your only company, aside from the guard who slipped your food through the slot once a day who’d never even glanced at you.
The Kyuubi hated you and you hated him, however you soon discovered that you both hated Danzo and Root, the people who’d turned him into a weapon and you into a vessel, even more. The realization brought you two closer. Eventually, he saw himself in your pain and told you that as you were missing a sister, he was missing siblings too.
They’d also been turned into weapons, and you assumed, that wherever Kushina was, she was probably being used to meet this organization’s needs. Though a part of you still liked to imagine that while you were here, she was back home. Her skin soaking up the rays of the sun, her beautiful red hair flowing with the wind, as she ran across the village, to the place where you’d both built a tree house and told stories about other worlds you’d one day go to.
“Listen to me, child” the beast, no, Kurama, told you “I’m willing to lend you my power if you’ll use it carefully and wisely. Only if you promise me, swear to me, that you’ll use it to destroy those who wronged us” and with that, you sealed your fate.
After that day, you became the docile Jinchuuriki Danzo wanted you to be, and earned his trust.
One day, we are going to bite back  and he won’t notice until it’s too late.
That was 13 years ago.
Danzo had brought someone who trained you as a medical ninja. You didn’t know their name, not even what their face looked like, it was always fully covered, and you knew they were holding back in their teachings.  You helped your teacher heal the injured Root members who came back from missions, serving only as a minor assistant. They had only taught you how to do basic things like heal cuts faster or mend a broken bone, but they never let you learn any just that required a large amount of chakra usage. Still, you obeyed silently.
You were almost sure Danzo no longer saw you as a threat, and the many years that had passed since you last had a rampage, put him in a comfortable spot. However you were still surprised when he appeared in your room just before you were going to sleep and announced
“The Hokage and the elders are pressuring me by saying that it’s about time you learned to defend yourself, after all, you just turned 21 and you don’t know much about fighting. Tomorrow a ninja sent by them will be coming to start training you here on grounds. He’ll be staying here as long as it takes for you to be at least competent in deflecting a few attacks. However, this won’t be free for you. If you want to train, you’d better get information about Sarutobi from him, and pass it on to me. I can’t refuse their orders, but I can’t help it if you have some sort of accident that puts you in a temporary physical (idk the word for this)”
Your blood runs cold in your veins. You know he wasn’t joking, when he made a threat he went through with it. You just nodded and assured him that you’d try to get any information for him. He left as fast as he came, and spent the rest of the night imagining what your new tutor would be like.
Would they be as impersonal as your medical tutor? Without an identity? A name? Or would it be someone as scary as Danzo? That would make it hard for you to get the information you had to pass on to him. You couldn’t lose this chance to train. It was the moment you and Kurama had been waiting for.
When you enter the training room you expect so many things, except what you see. A cheerful smile meets your sight, bright yellow hair with the ability to light the whole room up, and a silky warm voice.
“You must be Y/N” he says “so pleased to meet you. I’m Minato and I’ll be tutoring you under the Hokage’s orders.”
You’re shocked to be met with such kindness. It’s been so long since someone spoke to you like you were an actual person, that you don’t really know what to say.
“Do you have any previous knowledge on controlling chakra or doing any sort of jutsu? I just want to know where to start so you feel comfortable.”
Again, you stay silent. Nobody has thought about your wellbeing in so long, and this stranger is worried about you feeling uncomfortable. He’s perceptive, so he notices your stiff posture and your nerves.
“Hey it’s okay, we don’t have to do much today. You can just walk around the room and play a bit with the equipment so you get used to it. I’ll just stay in a corner until you feel more comfortable in my presence.”
“No—“ you quickly say “walk around with me. Please. Show me how to be a Kunoichi.”
“Alright” he chuckles a bit. “Let me show you the ninja packs first.”
He reaches for one of them and proceeds to pull out a few weapons. He names all of them to you and lets you hold them.
Then he explains a few basic concepts on fighting and has you do some simple exercises to control chakra. Since you know medical ninjutsu, it’s easy for you, but at the end of the practice, you’re still tired.
The first training session gave you a feeling of intrigue, and you start looking forward to the rest. Each day, you start enjoying it more and you get better.
Minato is a patient and determined teacher, and he starts becoming the only friend you’ve had.
You two start joking around during the sessions, and time flies by while you’re with him.
He has you practice different concepts, and also train your body so you have more physical endurance.
When he sees you getting better, he starts challenging you to different competitions. Some test strength, others speed, and your favorite, strategical thinking, Minato almost always wins, but you’re satisfied to notice you’re getting better each time.
Once he challenges you to a race, and he takes you outside for it, but the middle of the way, you step on a rock and twist your ankle.
“Damn! Next time I’ll get ya! Yaknow??” You shout after him.
He comes back to scoop you up from the ground. You thought it was such a gentlemanly action, until you hear him let out a loud laughter.
“Why are you laughing?” You ask, your cheeks burning with embarrassment.
“Nothing bad I swear” he chuckles again “It’s just, the way you talk. It reminds me of a good friend of mine. Actually you remind me a lot of her. She’s as feisty as you, and also very talented.”
He says as he carries you back.
“Kushina” you whisper. “She’s alive”
“What? You know her?” A single tear rolls down your cheek.
“I once knew her.” You say simply “Can you tell me more about her?”
His heart softens when he sees your pleading eyes.
“Sure, if you want me to. I don’t really know what to say though” he starts.
You arrive at your room and he settles you down on the bed.
“Is she happy?”
“I guess so. She’s a fighter. She used to get bullied, for her red hair” You remember how her soft strands felt in your fingers. All your childhood you’d envied her beautiful hair, now you longed to run your hands through it once more. You couldn’t believe people would make fun of her for such a beautiful trait. “She kicked all their asses though, and she made friends. True ones.”
“Like you?”
“Yeah”
He spent the whole evening telling you stories about your sister, making you laugh like you hadn’t done in so long. He brought you sweets he stole from the kitchen, as he went to pick up more ice for your ankle, and he stayed with you, to help you heal.
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone you got injured today, so we can still see each other tomorrow”
You smile and nod. If Danzo knew you couldn’t train, he’d bar you from your time with Minato. He already tried to reduce your training time too much, only because Minato insisted you needed more practice, arguing that it was harder for you to learn these things as an adult.
You rest for three days. Minato is more than happy to share more stories about your sister, and also some about his three young students he’s very attached to.
“Kakashi is full of sadness, but he has a huge heart. Obito is a bit clumsy, but he’s the full spirit of the team, he’ll do great things someday. Finally, Rin is the glue holding them together, she’s reliable and kind. You’d love them.” All this kept you wondering what life was like outside these quarters. Minato’s stories were full of magic, and they made you so happy. He tends to you perfectly and then in a flash, your ankle is as good as new. He starts training you again, and it becomes your favorite time of the day. You can feel your body get stronger each time. He lets you practice different types of jutsu and you’re happy to discover that while they’re challenging, it’s very rewarding to master them. The confidence between you and your tutor grows, as well as your own self confidence. Maybe your goal of fighting your captor is closer than you think.
“Why do they keep you here?” He asks puzzled after you finish taking down one of his shadow clones with the shuriken jutsu he taught you “Why didn’t you go to the academy, and instead waited until this age to learn how to fight? You’re clearly a natural, it would’ve helped so much if we could have gotten you on a shinobi team.”
“Minato, there’s something I need to tell you.” The words scrape your throat, but you gather the courage to spit them out anyway “I’m being kept here as a prisoner, ever since I was chosen as the nine tails jinchuuriki”
He furrows his brow, clearly not understanding what you just said. Fear crawls through your veins and you instantly regret saying that. He’ll stop seeing me the same way now.
“Kushina is the Jinchuuriki”
“No, that’s not possible, there’s only one Kurama, and it’s sealed inside me”
“Everyone in the village knows she’s the Jinchuuriki, Y/N, even the Hokage has acknowledged it” he says it with such certainty that you almost believe it for a minute. Maybe the beast inside you was imaginary all along, but then he goes pale. Pale as if he’d seen a ghost, no, worse, as if he’d just found an answer to this confusion.
“No, the Hokage is the one who ordered Danzo to keep me here.”
Minato pauses for a second
“Y/N, I need you to do something for me,” there’s not much you feel you can do but you nod once, waiting for his instruction “can you call the Kyuubi forth and let him speak to me?” “His name is Kurama, he doesn’t like being called Kyuubi” you snap, and then clasp a hand over your mouth as you realize how rude you’re being to the only person that you know who truly cares about you.
“It’s okay, I know it’s hard. Don’t worry about me” he smiles and warmth spreads in your chest “I’ll be kind to him”
You believe him, and Kurama does too, so you switch.
“Kid” he says simply
“So it’s true”
“It depends”
“On what?”
“On what you think is the truth”
“The truth is that Y/N is the real Jinchuuriki, and that Danzo lied to the Hokage and the whole village by telling them Kushina was your vessel. The fact here is that the Jinchuuriki out there is a lie, and he’s keeping the real one hidden”
“You’re a smart one, and yes, there’s truth among your words.  The question is, are you going to stop Danzo before he turns us into a weapon with no self control? I can lend Y/N my power, but I can’t fight for her if she doesn’t make her body strong first. If she doesn’t learn how to properly control chakra, it’ll be for nothing”
Kurama switches with you again, and the worried expression in Minato’s face triggers something in you.
He explains everything to you. Root has been telling everyone including the Hokage your sister is the Jinchuuriki, while keeping you hidden here. Most likely Danzo has a plan to use you later to gain more power. The realization makes your stomach drop to your knees.
“I’m scared” you say.
“Shh as long as I’m with you, you’ll be okay. I’ll protect you. We’ll stop Danzo together, the only thing we need to do is make your body stronger, but it’ll be easy since you’re already naturally talented.”
You feel so confident because of him, that without thinking you press your lips against his. He’s startled for a second, but then he moves, responding to your body. With that kiss, you give yourself to him. His hands travel to your waist, holding you tight, telling you, you’re something he’s not willing to lose.
You tangle your hands in his hair, and he utters a soft groan in response. Encouraged, you deepen the kiss and press your warm body closer to his. Your tongues dance hot around one another, coordinating perfectly between longing and pleasure. You stroke his neck, then grasp the collar of his shirt. His hands start to travel under your shirt, sending an ecstatic feeling through your body. You moan, thrusting your hips forward, needing to feel his touch everywhere. But when he realizes what he’s doing, he breaks the kiss, leaving your mouth cold with his own mouth’s absence.
He presses his forehead against yours, and stares deeply into your eyes, seeing right through to your very soul. His eyes transport you to a place where nothing can touch you, where you feel safe.
“Tell me to stop, and I’ll stop.”
“Minato, I want you. I want this. Please.”
You see a golden spark in his eyes, and he smiles relieved, it’s clear he wants this as much as you.
“Are you sure?”
“I’ve never been more sure of anything”
You always thought being touched by someone would be scary, but now, standing with him here, desire overcomes you. Love, overcomes you. He is the person you want to spend every single moment of the day with, and give it all to. Something in you knows
“Promise me that if you feel unsafe, or it hurts, or you simply don’t want to do it anymore, you’ll tell me.”
How much he cares for you makes your heart melt, you nod, giving him the confirmation he needs, and this time it’s him who initiates the kiss. Just like that, in a small corner of the training room where nobody can see you and nobody can hear you, where it’s just you two, Minato makes your inexperienced, touch starved body, feel loved for the first time.
The month passes in a breeze. You keep training together, and gaining more control over your own body.  Minato says that you’re learning at an extraordinary speed, but part of it, you owe it to Kurama. He’s been lending you chakra and helping you every step, and you feel the bond between you get stronger.
Aside from that, Minato has been feeling uneasy by the discovery on Danzo’s deception, however he couldn’t report anything until he knew more.
Spying on Danzo proved less difficult than he initially thought it would be. He knew Danzo felt confident here in his territory, and though he’d mistrusted him since he arrived on the Hokage’s orders, Danzo thought he was being smarter than Minato. That’s why he’d grown careless, and now as Minato was walking back to his quarters, he heard a subordinate address the man.
“Lord Danzo, I have disturbing news for you”
Minato walked closer to the room to hear better, effectively disguising himself against the wall.
“What is it this time? Can we deal with it?” Danzo replied.
“It’s the Jinchuuriki”
Minato’s heart stopped for a second at the mention of you.
“What in the world has that cursed girl done now?” he says with an annoyed sigh “She’s been more trouble than she’s worth”
His subordinate kept quiet, unsure if he should go on with the report.
“Well? Out with it” Danzo ordered, exasperated.
“She’s…” the subordinate trembles, in response to the rage he already feels coming “pregnant”
Minato’s brain goes blank, all that he can think of now is getting you and his unborn child out of here.
Danzo’s visible eye rages, but his demeanor remains calm.
“We just found out, during her routine check up.” The ninja explains.
“But how?” Danzo asks, more to himself than to the other person, after a few seconds it dawns on him “That damned Minato. It seems he’s not only training our weapon.”
The old man thinks for a bit, then says
“Bring the other girl. It’s about time we got rid of this one. After all she’s been nothing but a disappointment.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Get everything ready to extract and seal the beast into the new vessel tonight. Oh and don’t tell Sarutobi anything. After all, he thinks the girl we have here is the back up. We’ll just say she died under mysterious circumstances, and turn the one he thinks is the Jinchuuriki into the actual Jinchuuriki. Nobody needs to know I’ve had the Kyuubi hidden here all along.”
Minato has no more time. He has to do something before they hurt you.
Stay calm, he tells himself. He takes a deep breath, and when his hands stop shaking, he teleports to your room, where you are already getting into bed.
“Minato?” You say at the sight of him “What are you doing here? If Danzo knows you’re here he’ll punish us both”
“Y/N, we don’t have much time, you’re in danger”
“What? What do you mean? Why?”
“Do you feel different somehow? Physically I mean”
“Well, I haven’t really thought about it. I guess I’ve been more tired than usual, and I’ve had a bit of nausea, but it’s because of the strain my body’s been through with the training, right? It happens to everybody. Plus I just had my regular check up with the other medical ninjas and they said I was fine.”
“Y/N, I really hate to tell you the news this way, because it should be something happy, but, I just overheard Danzo and another shinobi talking. You’re pregnant.”
Your body feels numb, and the whole world starts spinning around you.
“I’m what?” You whisper. Tears have started flowing and you place your hands on your belly. The only thing you can feel now is fear, for the little life growing inside of you, product of the deep love Minato and you feel for each other.
“Hey beautiful, be happy.” He reaches out and wipes the tears from your cheeks “We’re going to raise this child together, I promise, we’ll get married and Kushina can be your bridesmaid. You’ll be together again. I’m going to get you both out of here now, but we need to act fast.”
You don’t spare another moment, you trust him completely, so you’re willing to do anything he tells you. You look at him determined.
“I trust you. Let’s do it, but let me fight too, I know I’m strong enough now.”
“But the baby”
This time it’s Kurama who answers
“Will be fine. I’ll make a shield of chakra and he’ll be protected. Both Y/N and him.” Minato thanks him, and you also feel grateful towards the creature who’s been living inside you for so long. You can’t believe how close you’ve grown to him, he’s not a weapon and you won’t let Danzo turn him into one.
You take Minato’s hand and he teleports the two of you to the entrance of the  Root Headquarters.
Danzo and a dozen of his Root subordinates are already there waiting for you.
“I knew you’d try to steal my tailed beast once you found out I had it here. I just didn’t know you’d put a brat in his vessel. You’re a quick one, Yellow Flash” Danzo mocks Minato. “However, you can’t teleport your way out of here. You know my barrier blocks all of your markers outside of it.”
Minato’s grip on your hand tightens, but you see he’s still calm, not playing into Danzo’s game.
“I’m sorry, but you won’t be taking my best weapon tonight. The new vessel is already on her way, and by the time she arrives, this one and your unborn kid will be dead. Seize them and start the extraction of the beast.” He orders his fighters.
A dozen of the most skilled, battle seasoned ninja charge towards you and though you thought you’d be ready for this, you find yourself frozen.
A glance from Minato, however, gives you all the courage you need.
“I know you can do it. Just remember what we did during training. I’ve got your back.”
So, the fighting starts.
Minato moves gracefully, only aiming to injure, not to kill. Preserving his rage only for Danzo. In just a few minutes, he manages to disable 4 enemies, giving you two the advantage.
You’re less agile than him, which is understandable, due to your inexperience, but Kurama’s strength makes up for it. You only manage to fight off one enemy, using the jutsu Minato taught you, realizing just how effective it is and feeling proud of yourself for being able to defend the attacks.
While you’re fighting his ninja, Danzo is only watching from afar. It seems his confidence diminishes with each shinobi that is taken down by you, but it’s not enough to wipe the smug smile from his face.
With trouble, you take on two more enemies, barely getting by. You wipe a little blood from your face, and reach instinctively towards your stomach, as if the gesture could reassure the baby everything would be alright.
Minato, already finished with the other Root agents, charges towards Danzo and engages in a fight with him.
The old man is more skilled than you’d imagined. Their bodies move at a fast speed, and you can barely keep up with what’s happening. The fight is too confusing for you to follow, but at some point you’re able to notice that Minato has a slight advantage. Younger, faster, and more skilled, the man you love is giving everything to protect his family against the man who would kill you.
Suddenly there’s a flash of red, and you can’t tell whose blood it is.
Your heart stops.
Minato is on the ground, pale and bleeding from a large cut on his back.
“Y/N stay away!” He shouts
You don’t understand how Danzo managed to hurt him this way, but you don’t care.
You call Kurama, and feel his power rushing through you.
Your mind goes blank with anger, and hot chakra seeps out of you, transforming you into a small version of the Kyuubi.
Then you attack Danzo with all your might.
It’s over in a few seconds. His body is barely recognizable after you’re finished with him.
You go back to being yourself, kurama’s power retreating into you.
Your body feels heavy and then you lose consciousness.
When you open your eyes again, there’s a bright light in your face. You rub your eyes and try to adjust.
“Minato?”
“He’s alive, Y/N” a familiar voice says “Thankfully you three are alive. Nobody can hurt you anymore”
“Kushina” you say as her soft hand reaches rub your belly “I’ve missed you so much”
“And I’ve missed you, little sister” she replies “There’s so much I have to tell you and so much you have to tell me, but all in due time. The good thing is you’re awake now and in good hands. We’re in the Konoha hospital, there’s only kind people here”
You can see her face now. She’s grown to become so beautiful, and you experience a type of peace you haven’t felt in so long.
“Minato is already in rehabilitation, he’s very strong, yaknow? That’s why the baby you’re carrying survived, must be his Namikaze genes combined with your Uzumaki ones”
“Kushina, I’d like you to be the baby’s godmother. I want us to be a family again”
She grips your hand tighter in response and nods happily
“Of course we will be”
Days later, when you’re finally out of the hospital, Minato and you get married in a small ceremony. Only his closest friends, his three students –Kakashi, Obito and Rin– and your sister are present, but that is all you need. You wear a simple dress that Kushina helped you embroider with a beautiful flowery pattern. You let your hair loose, and put a single white orchid close to your left ear. It’s the happiest day of your life. Minato looks dashing as ever, and he receives you with that wonderful smile of his, ready to join his life to yours forever.
8 months later, you both welcome your son. You decide to name him Naruto.

Give us how you think heart flower AU would go with kakayama!
Kakashi’s heart has never bloomed. Not like others around him. His is always closed, always hiden away to avoid judgement.
There’s still jusgement though. People can tell when someone’s heart flower hasn’t bloomed, or at least a lot of them assume they can.
‘Cold blooded Kakashi’ was never just about his nature in battle, but also about his heart flower.
About how no one ever saw him holding it, exmaining it, watching it bloom. Some people think it has wilted away because Kakashi’s incapable of any sort of love
they’re wrong.
it’s there, throving and living.
It just hasn’t bloomed yet.
For Tenzo, his heart flower blooms young. Age 16 as he’s watching his senpai argue with Lord third that Tenzo be discluded from the mission Team Ro is being given. That Tenzo not be put anywhere near Danzo, no matter what.
He wants to ask his Senpai to stop. He can take care of himself and he can handle his mission, but at the same time it feels nice knowing that his Senpai cares about him so deeply.
he checks his heart flower in the anbu locker after. When he’s alone and can’t seem to get rid of that warm fuzzy feeling in his chest.
It’s in full bloom. Vibrant purples and boues mixed into one beautiful flower.
he doesn’t give it to Kakashi, not today. Not for a while yet.
kakashi’s starts to bloom when he’s older. 26 to be exact. Right after Tenzo has come to visit him and make sure he’s not about to murder a few new genin he has been put in charge of.
Tenzo’s the first person to ask him how he’s cooping. Not how he’s ‘liking it’ or ‘how amazing it is’. How he’s cooping being in charge of a team when he has always tried to avoid being given more responsibilities. More people to watch over.
As soon as Tenzo leaves, Kakashi checks his flower. He’s not sure what compels him to do so, but as soon as he does he see’s a beautiful vibrant green flower stairing back at him.
He knows he’s in love. He knows no one in the village would ever belive it.
He hides it.
They don’t confess anythig for years. both of them have their reasons. Tenzo thinks Kakashi can’t possibly love him. not the way that he feels about his senpai. Kakashi thinks Tenzo deserves better.
After Pein’s attack on the village, Kakashi wakes up in hospital after narrowly escaping death, to find Tenzo sitting there watching over him.
Tenzo doesn’t wait anymore.
He holds out his flower to Kakashi, telling him he doesn’t expect Kakashi to return his feelings. That he soesn’t have to, but he can’t keep it hiden anymore. He can’t risk Kakashi dying not knowing how loved and adored he is.
his eyes are closed when the flower leaves his hand, and they stay closed until the moment he feels a new one replacing it.
When he opens them, he see’s a beautiful green flower laying there in place of his own. One of the prettiest flowers he’s ever seen, with the prettiest smile staring back at him from behind it.
Kakashi doesn’t say his feelings. He was never good at that.
but seeing the flower and the way it lights up when they hold both of then together, Tenzo knows.
It took a while for them to get here, but he can’t inagine being anywhere else

kh’s story snippet celebration sendoff, entry #6
God, what do I even say about this piece? It's so old - the timestamp from my FF.net import says 2012 - and I don't remember much about it. I almost left it out of this collection after cringing my way through a re-read of the first paragraph. Then, I made myself reframe the narrative.
This piece needs to be here; it shows how far I've come as a writer.
Don't let anyone tell you that fanfic is a waste of time. Just look at this piece compared to my recent projects! I'm living proof that fanfic is every bit as valid for honing your craft as traditional written media
Fandom: Naruto Pairing: Sai/Sakura Haruno Word Count: 2931 Genre: canon-divergence!AU Rating: T Warnings: canon-typical violence
... [ hypocritical ]
Pain.
The dull throb of injury greeted Sai as his consciousness reluctantly returned to him. This particular circumstance perplexed him greatly. Had he not been merely put to sleep? Sakura's loyalty was steadfast and her medical skills knew no equal but that of their esteemed Hokage, of this much he was certain. Therefore, the probability that this harm was inflicted by her drug, hastily administered though it was, seemed highly unlikely. No, this feeling was not akin to that of being poisoned. Nor did it seem to come from any external wound; a quick scan of his person negated that possibility. Yet, it was still very clear to him that all was not right or as it should be. His throat felt unbelievably tight, the sensation bringing to mind scenes of Naruto shoving complete bowls of ramen down his throat in a singular motion. Sai's heart raced uncontrollably, palpitating to a foreign rhythm, and his insides quaked. There was something wrong with him internally.
Nearby, his companions began to stir. As they also scanned for injuries, all the while cursing Sakura for her heroic stupidity, it became clear to Sai that he alone suffered from any malady. He rose gingerly, taken aback by how easily he could still function in spite of all his present symptoms, and questioned Kiba for his teammate's last known trajectory. The best course of action, for now, would be to find Sakura before his symptoms got worse. With but a nod, he left his temporary workmates and headed out in search of the pink-haired kunoichi.
Sai dashed through the woodland at breakneck speed, something as of yet unnamed urging him on. Something about the whole situation unsettled him. He should have anticipated Sakura's actions and been ready with a countermeasure. Becoming her victim was irresponsible and now his comrade could be engaged in a treacherous encounter with that traitor, possibly without backup; whether or not Kakashi had caught up to her in time remained to be seen. Her tenacity, even with her insane strength, would be no match for the Uchiha prodigy. It was as clear as needing air to breathe. Surely Sakura herself could see that. She had proven time and time again over that her intelligence was more than adequate. Why then would she willingly engage in actions where death was not only possible but the most probable outcome? The shinobi's stomach lurched, forcing him to stall his forward progress in favor of retching in the forest undergrowth. He had no time to waste now, his symptoms now progressing.
Another half-hour of hurdling over branches did little to ease his discomfort. A cold sweat, unrelated to his current exertions, came over Sai making his hands unnaturally clammy. Barely perceptible, yet uncontrollable shaking started to take a hold of him. His body was starting to go into shock. He would need to find her soon.
Sai lost all track of the distance he had traveled, the trees and thickets becoming but a verdant blur in the peripheral. It was of no consequence anyway. His mind was too clouded to focus on those kinds of details anymore. Instead he focused what was left of his cerebral capacity on what he considered to be his mission objectives: to find and determine the condition of one Sakura Haruno, and to have her administer a thorough health examination on his person. As Sai mentally rallied around these precepts, her chakra signature finally came into range. The worn shinobi redoubled his efforts. His reward finally came into view, accompanied by silver and gold and black, and Sai dropped from the sky with a resounding thud.
"Took you long enough to catch up." A weary, whiskered grin greeted him. "Sakura sure knows how to pack a punch, huh? And not just with her fist."
Sai merely nodded. His exertions had taken a toll on him and for the moment he was finding it hard to catch his breath. Non-verbal means of communication would have to do for the moment. And so his black eyes became intent on catching the attention of a pair of viridian ones. It did not take long.
"Sai? Are you okay?" Sakura gave her blonde teammate her half of their current burden, a half-dead kunoichi, and rushed over to Sai with healing chakra at the ready. "You look awful. My sleeping potion shouldn't have had any adverse effects. Were you attacked?"
The moment she touched his damp forehead, the symptoms began to ease. His heartbeat slowed to a near-normal pace and the tension in his muscles started to give way. "No. I... I don't..."
"I can't find anything wrong with you," the kunoichi replied after letting her chakra probe his entire form, puzzlement showing clearly on her face. "Talk to me, Sai. What's going on?"
"I woke up in pain, but I couldn't locate any wounds. It has to be something internal. I think my body started to go into shock. But..." Though his expression remained stoic, his eyes reflected confusion.
"But what?"
"I do not understand. You haven't treated me, but the symptoms are subsiding."
"Sakura," their tired sensei spoke up. "Check his tongue."
"Okay?" Sakura turned back to her patient. "You heard the man. Open up. Now, what am I looking for?"
"A seal. Danzo placed one on every member of Root. It was supposed to keep them quiet, but I have a feeling it sealed more than just their words."
"Are you sure, Sensei?" The pink head turned towards Kakashi for confirmation. "There's nothing here."
"The seal must have broken when Danzo died." The older man scratched his head. "Normally seals don't work like that. They stay in place even after the one who placed it there gets killed."
"I don't get it." Naruto chimed in. "Then why would Sai's seal be gone?"
"Well, his methods were questionable at best, but he was loyal to the village." Kakashi sighed. "My initial guess is that Sai has some information that Danzo thought may be of use to us in the event of his death. I doubt there's anything wrong with Sai. He's probably just feeling the after-effects of the seal being removed."
"I see. Then it could be possible..." She turned back to Sai, a sudden realization dawning in her eyes. "What were your symptoms? I need all of them in the order in which they appeared."
"Constricted airway, heart palpitations, a dull ache in my abdomen, nausea, shaking and cold sweats."
"Okay. You probably felt your throat, heart, and stomach first, right?" The girl tapped her cheek as she sorted out her theories.
"Yes."
"The nausea came later?" His nod confirmed some suspicions, so she continued with her line of questioning. "What were you doing when it came? Were you thinking about something?"
"I left the others to resume my mission. I..." The words left his mouth slowly, reluctant to be heard. "I was thinking that only a stupid kunoichi would drug her teammates so she could run into a suicide mission alone."
"Sai." His name fell softly from her lips and his eyes became glassy. Her lithe arms lifted to embrace his neck. "I'm sorry I worried you."
The warmth of her body against his was strangely comforting, so Sai chose to mimic her posture. "Did he hurt you?"
"Yes." The word came out as a sob and Sakura squeezed him just a bit tighter. "But I'll be okay."
"Good." Sai closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and then detached himself from Sakura. "An injured medic is of no use to her team."
"You stupid..." Sakura paused mid-punch. The faint track of a fallen tear graced his tactless cheek. Breaking his face no longer held any appeal, so she contented herself with a measured thump to his shoulder. "Whatever. Let's just get home."
Chapter 2: reclamation
Running without sparing the slightest moment to turn back, determination and desperation lent their power to her limp limbs. In a maze of ever-growing darkness, she wandered. Alone. The silence filled her soul with dread, its death toll ringing in her ears. How long had she been running, been searching? It felt like countless fathoms of time with the quiet, suffocating loneliness contorting her senses. But onwards she ran just the same, hoping beyond all hope that something, anything would change this state of purgatory in which she found herself. Just what had she been searching for? It had been so long, even she forgot. All that was left was to go on. And though she knew to do so bordered heavily on the side of insanity, on she went. And on. And on. Always running. Always moving forward. She was hurtling herself headlong into her destiny and the outcome, she remembered only as it became too late, was always the same. The electric blade, crackling with some emotion between love and hate, ravaged the recess that once held her heart and ended her struggle. She was caught in the red.
Sakura awoke in a cold sweat, gasping for breath. Her hands came to her chest of their own accord, trying in vain to cover the ache of betrayal that now resided there. It was becoming a morning ritual. It took but a moment to collect her faculties, the shock value of such torturous nightmares dulling with each successive night that they had been endured. It had been ten days since her brush with death at the hands of her most beloved and Sakura was no shrieking violet.
The first night had been the worst. In her panic, she had roused the rest of the team and their prisoner with her struggling. When the spell of the nightmare finally broke, thanks to a sound slap from their venerable sensei, Sakura whispered her fake assurances and rearranged her bedroll. She could feel the knowing eyes of the scarlet prisoner on her for the rest of the night. Contempt for her own weakness, rather than that of his discarded pawn, ran through Sakura's veins under the scrutiny of that gaze. Sleep would continue to elude her.
The next few days were but a blur. Arriving at the village, handing in mission reports, and reporting for duty at the hospital were second nature enough that she could perform these tasks on autopilot. She had joined the ranks of the walking dead. It took a couple of days, but eventually, her friends staged an intervention. It took another bit of friendly violence, this time supplied by an indignant Ino, to set her straight, but it was effective. She went to plotting. After all, one should play to one's strengths and Sakura had always been known to have an intelligent head on her shoulders.
It took a couple more days for her to realize that there were holes, numerous and large ones, in the scheme she was cooking up. Like it or not, Sakura was going to have to call in some back-up. Invitations went out and she lost no time in starting preparations. Time would be of utmost importance; some of the major players could not be counted upon to stay in the village for any length of time.
One by one they arrived, exchanging smiles and civilities before being seated at the kunoichi's small dining table. Sakura did a fair job of hostess duties, pouring tea and filling plates with second and third portions, in between fielding off-color comments between the two younger males attending. When the eating and drinking and carousing seemed to slow, she smiled and began clearing the used dishes.
"It was a pleasant meal, Sakura." The silver-haired shinobi seated at the head of the gathering handed over his empty plate. "But what are we really here for?"
"Observant as always, sensei." The girl added his plate to the pile growing near the sink. "I think it's time we discussed what should be done about Sasuke."
"Sakura." Her name came across Naruto's lips as an impatient growl. "There is nothing to discuss. I already promised you that I would bring him home to you. I don't go back on my promises."
"I'm not asking you to. I'm just asking how we intend on doing it." Sakura spoke carefully, making eye contact with all there as she did so.
"We?" The blonde stood up, knocking the chair out from under him as he did so. "Oh no! I don't think so. You're not going anywhere near him again! It's my responsibility. I'll bring him home."
"We've already discussed this." A sigh came from the direction of their sensei. "Sasuke is my responsibility. He was placed in my care."
"No, sensei. It's me he wants and I'm..."
The table between them splintered, a feminine fist having smashed through it in frustration. "Shut up both of you!" The furious kunoichi bit out. "Have you forgotten what happened the last time one of us tried to take him on by ourselves? Huh?  Huh  ?" Sakura paused to look at them. "Well, I do. I see it every single freakin' night in my nightmares. He was going to kill me. And he was going to enjoy it. Now when I say 'we' that's exactly what I mean. So   we   had better start coming up with a plan so   we  can deal with this once and for all the next time we see that traitorous bastard. Understand?"
"Fine. I get it." Naruto gave his sulky consent.
"You know he's not going to come quietly." The reminder came from Kakashi. "It will be easier to kill him than to capture him."
"But Kakashi-sensei!"
"I know, Naruto, but he might not give us a choice."
"It's fine," Sakura spoke up. "If we have to kill him, it's fine. There's nothing left of our Sasuke in there anyway."
"Sakura?"
"Come on, Naruto. We're deluding ourselves if we think that we'll bring him back and everything will be just fine. He wants to destroy the village and everyone it! If we don't do it, the powers that be will just execute him. If he has to die, I'd rather it be by our hands in the manner we think is best. I only see three choices. We kill him, they kill him or he kills all of us. And if I have to pick one, I pick the one where we get to have the most say." For the first time in days, Sakura gave in to the desire to break down.
"No." A soft, monotone voice cut through the discussion. Three sets of eyes turned his direction in wonder. "You are wrong, hag. There are four choices."
Sakura wiped her wet face with the back of her hands. "Sai, I don't understand. What other choice? Do you actually want to try to save him? Is that the choice you're talking about? Why would you? He's nothing to you."
"Please do not misunderstand me. This is not out of compassion. It is just the opposite actually."
"Yeah, I don't get it either." Naruto scratched his cheek in puzzlement.
"He has rejected the bonds he created with all of you. He has caused you pain. Even now, he makes the hag cry." Sai paused to rub his chest. "He does not deserve death. That is too light a punishment for his transgressions."
"What do you suggest?" Kakashi leaned forward, resting his elbows on what was left of Sakura's table.
"There are things worse than death and we will give those things to Sasuke." The smirk he gave them instead of his usual smile seemed genuine, laced with just a bit of malice. "I have a plan."
The rest of Team Kakashi eyed each other, looking for the unspoken cues as to what each was thinking. Each saw what they felt mirrored back at them, but no one wanted to speak up. No one wanted to be the one to confirm their resolve to do whatever it takes. They were about to change the rules. Sakura would regain her heart by first breaking it. Naruto would leave his childhood behind once and for all. Kakashi would learn to put the needs of the many above his own selfish wishes. They would do what their mentors could not. They would be the ones to break the cycle. They would rain retribution upon one of their own.
"Fine. But if we're going to talk nefarious plans, let's take it to the sofa. I'd rather not get splinters." The kunoichi glanced back at the other half of her team. "Oh, and you two owe me a new table."
"But Sakura..."
"Of course. It's no problem." Kakashi covered the blonde's mouth with a firm hand until the girl turned away. "Don't worry, Naruto. Yamato owes me."
"I can hear you guys, you know."
Darkness invaded her dreams once again. She was running, always running. Desperate and determined. Always moving on. Always moving forward. Again, not a person was in sight, but she did not feel alone. The inky air that enveloped her did not frighten her anymore. It felt... alive. She felt the familiar burn of her overexerted muscles. She knew where she was going. She was meeting her destiny. It was unavoidable. She could hear the lightning closing in, causing the hair on her neck to stand on end. But this time as her destiny hit critical mass, the collision with her heart imminent, the crackle of the electric blade was drowned out by a soft trickling of black liquid. The sound grew and grew until it became palpable, swallowing the chidori in its entirety. The red receded and refused to return.

“Okay,” she agreed before closing her eyes. She didn’t want to (see the world, she just wanted to wake up to find out the mission had been a bad dream) see Sukea and think on the things that she kept picking up on from him. All Sakura wanted was to be Chinami who was just a traveler just like Sukea was. A traveler who didn’t have people’s lives slip through her hands because she wasn’t good enough.

“Another one?” Mrs. Takahashi asked, “You’re going to burn yourself out.”
(You’re not good enough to keep working; you can’t endure like others do. You’re too young. You’re supposed to just wait around until your teammates get back because those who abandon their teammates are worst than scum.
And Sakura wanted to laugh despite the loneliness that had dug itself into her skin, and had made her bleed, so not to be shaken off.
They left - they left and now it was just her so why should she wait until they got back? She wasn’t a piece of cake that could be discarded.
Sakura had wanted Sasuke and now she wanted to be better in serving her village. Her crush, her teammate, refuting her didn’t stop her chasing after him even though she should have respected his choice. What was their opinions, strangers opinions, compared to that?)
Then I burn, were the words Sakura wanted to spill out from her tongue, to spew out as though they were poison she studied and used, and I get up from my ashes.

That’s okay because Sakura doesn’t smile up at him, she doesn’t (lie) promise everything is going to be okay, nor does she greet her husband like she would have this morning if he wasn’t already out of the house. Sakura didn’t even take one of Kakashi’s hands into her own and give it a small squeeze in comfort, in a subtle way to remind him she was still here. No, instead Sakura exhaled the breath she had been holding in and it doesn’t remove the heaviness she feels in her chest.
“You need to come home.” Sakura doesn’t ask for him to do it for her even though Sakura had too lost their child. (We’re not dead, Sakura wanted to yell, and if you continue to keep your company with them, with the dead, then one day when you do come home we might just have become the company you prefer to keep. We might just become the dead you idolize because you were too late in life to realize how much your loved ones meant to you.)

He can have it just for a little bit. The air is hard to breath in, its too cold or maybe he’s too out of breath, and there’s clothe from his destroyed mask in his bloodied mouth but that’s okay. It’ll be over soon.

I love that, despite deciding to go through with the coup in this new AU, Itachi still finds the most peaceful solution available. Yes, he kills Danzo and surely some ROOT agents, maybe Homura and Koharu if they stand in his way as well, but it stops there.
He does not attack the village. He does not turn his weapons towards friends (like Team Ro or other ANBU he might have been closer to) or innocents (like shinobi who know nothing about the truth, the rot hidden under the rug) or civilians and people who can't defend themselves
Even in Hiruzen's case, he makes sure that he's gone from the Hokage position but does not wish to kill the old man, and instead calls for all the other clan heads and civilian representatives and other people in high positions (like maybe the Head ANBU and such) to decide someone to put in Hiruzen's place
And also, if I have to be honest, I love the idea of Fugaku finally getting to relax after the storm has passed and having the possibility to see that he has been a bit of a shitty dad, and deciding instead to be better for his sons, and maybe, in the process, re-discovering his love for Mikoto as well
Itachi give Hiruzen the chance to step down for a couple of reasons. 1) He thinks that it is more fitting for Hiruzen to live with the knowledge of his mistakes. 2) he knows that killing Hiruzen will incite more violence. No one is going to want to listen to the Uchiha if Hiruzen dies and Itachi really does not want this to devolve into mindless bloodshed. and finally, Hiruzen was also the only one who was really vocal about even trying to find peace with the Uchiha instead of jumping straight to wiping them out.
Hiruzen serves more of a purpose by stepping down than he does dead. When he approaches Hiruzen and tells him to step down or die, he makes sure that Hiruzen knows that he is to blame for Minato and Kushina’s deaths. Makes sure that Hiruzen knows that if he really cares about the village at all, then he will let the will of fire pass on to the people and disappear so that no one can try to restore the old system in his name.
In the end, there are still repercussions for the coup. There has to be in order for there to be peace.
Fugaku and Mikoto are banished from the village. Itachi gets stripped of his rank and relieved of all shinobi duties. And ultimately, it’s for the best. Fugaku no longer has the fate of the clan hanging over his head. He and Mikoto start traveling all over, visiting places that they had talked about going when they were young. Fugaku starts to smile again. Mikoto remembers why they fell in love in the first place. They send Sasuke and Itachi letters and gifts from all the places they visit. Their only regret is that they never get to Kushina and Minato’s graves.
Itachi was never meant to be a shinobi. Sure he was a prodigy, but his heart was always too kind, his hands were never supposed to be the hands of a killer. Itachi opens up a tea shop with the most calming atmosphere. It eventually becomes a cat cafe because Itachi keeps rescuing cats off the street and caring for them until they bond with a customer and get adopted.

Taryn, I humbly ask you for some sad Kakashi headcanons that you think will break me. It can be any AU, it can involve him dying or being lonely, just anything. Bring on the angst please.
Age Swap Au
Every morning before heading to the acadamy/training Kakashi stops at his favorite shop (the only one that will sell him food) to get some eggs and rice, and then sits on the roof eating and staring up at the Hokage’s monument. Particularly at the carving of the fourth Hoakge, Hatake Sakumo. He’s not certain why he focused on that carving particularly (not till he’s a bit older and starts to see the similarities between the fourth and himself) but something in his soul tells him that’s the face of his father. The man who is supposed to be here raising him, but instead died in the Kyuubi’s attack.
Sometimes, when he’s particularly board, he’ll walk through the cemetery looking at the stone slabs trying to figure out which one could be his mother. He doesn’t know how many times he has probably walked past her stone slab, or skimmed past the name written on the stone monument. He never keeps track. Just keeps visiting hoping today will be the day he finds her.
Even though he does consider some of his classmates friends (Obito, Rin, Gai particularly but also others) Kakashi is so used to being hated that he figures none of them feel the same way. Even Gai with his smiles and cheers of ‘rival’ he finds hard to belive
Before leaving the village to train under Danzo, Kakashi almost killed Asuma. In a fit of rage at the other boy getting a promotion he felt he deserved more, he snaps and pins him to the ground, chidori in hand ready to pierce his heart. It’s only his teammates and Gai screaming at him that stops him.
Every night after leaving the village, Kakashi sits up high in a tree looking up at the stars wondering if any of his old friends miss him. If they even noticed his absence at all.
When it comes to killing Danzo, Kakashi doesn’t think twice about it. He knows the man deserves to have his life sniffed out without concern. What he does care about, though, is the anguish in Tenzo’s eyes when he realizes what has happened. Although Tenzo joins him and would protect him with his life, Kakashi knows there’s a part of him that will always be angry Kakashi killed Danzo. After all, Danzo was the only person Tenzo had in his life.
During a fight one day, Tenzo is struck by the enemy (Pein, who in this au is Karin) and looks as if he has died. Losing his temper, Kakashi prepares to unleash Kurema onto the world in revenge, even at the cost of his own life.

Team Runaway AU Masterlist- Characters/Background
Roles:
Nohara Rin: Three Tailed Jinjuurike and Jonin Sensei of Team 7
Hatake Kakashi: Anbu Commander
Maito Gai: Jonin Sensei of Team Gai
Tenzo Yamato: Anbu Captain and Secondary Jonin Sensei to Team 7
Nicknames:
Rin: Trap trickster
Kakashi: The Hound/Lightning Cutter Kakashi
Gai: Konoha’s Mighty Green Beast
Tenzo: The Cat/Mokuton Murder
What they’re most known for
Rin: Impossible to get out of traps and punching so hard she can crush your bones.
Gai: Speed and strength. Taijutsu mastery.
Kakashi: Copying over 1000 jutsu’s and being wicked smart.
Tenzo: Ruthlessness in battle and his Mokuton abilities.
History:
Kakashi and Rin were placed on the same team alongside Namakaze Minato and Obito Uchiha. During their mission at the Kannabi bridge, Obito ‘died’ and gave Kakashi his sharingan as a gift.
After Obito’s death, Gai is put on a lot more missions with Kakashi and Rin to fill the empty spot on their team. After their first mission together as a team, Hiruzen, Minato and Choza decide that they work well together and should continue going on missions as a three man cell.
During one of their missions together, the trio finds themselves up against some Shinobi from Iwagakure. They are out numbers and trying desperately to figure out how to get out alive when Gai decides to use himself as a decoy.
Both Kakashi and Rin go after him and find him just as the Iwagakure Shinobi are about to attack him. They’re able to help Gai take the Iwagakure shinobi on, and during the battle the enemy calls upon a giant lightning jutsu to attack them (like in canon).
To protect his friends, Kakashi charges up his chidori even though he’s near chakra exhaustion, and slices the lightning in half.
With the attack defeated, Kakashi, Rin and Gai watch as the enemy shinobi Run away from them. They survived, completed their mission, and made a name for themselves that Iwagakure shinobi will never forget.
Rin, Kakashi and Gai continue to do missions together and make a name for themselves, becoming a team that very few are willing to face.
Then one day Rin and Kakashi are sent on a mission without Gai. They have tons of other backup Shinobi for this mission, but they’re told that Gai is needed for a mission with his old team. They don’t like it, but they go.
This is the mission that Rin is kidnapped on, and Isobu is sealed inside of her by the hidden mist. Kakashi is able to find her, but during the battle to get her away from the hidden mist shinobi, Rin jumps between him and his enemy and take’s a chidori through the chest.
Kakashi was thankfully able to redirect his attack a fraction, hitting Rin in the stomach rather than the heart.
Obito still see’s what happened, and watches as Rin and Kakashi both collapse on the ground. Thinking that Rin has been killed, he loses it and slaughters the enemy. But when he goes to check on Rin after, she is still breathing and Isobu is healing her.
Obito still decides to join Madara that day because he realizes that the Shinobi world is broken and could have cost Rin her life.
When Kakashi wakes up, he realizes Rin is still alive and immediately picks her up and take her back to the meeting point. After getting her to safety though, he distances himself. Afraid of hurting her again, and possibly even killer her by accident.
With the team’s growing strengths, and Kushina’s new appointment as Hokage, Kakashi is placed into Anbu to grow his skills and act as personal guard for Kushina when necessary. She partially does this so that she can keep an eye on Kakashi’s declining mental health, and with her as Hokage Kakashi’s only job is to stay by her side and protect her.
Kakashi starts to heal a little while guarding Kushina, even reaching a point where he is able to go out with Rin and Gai again. Though he continues to have nightmares about his hand covered in Rin’s blood, it helps him a lot to see her alive and smiling, even talking about her new ‘buddy’ Isobu who she’s always saying is super grumpy now that Kushina has improved the seal that keeps them inside of Rin.
Rin, Kakashi and Gai (who at this point has been named an honorary member of team Minato) are all told by Minato and Kushina about them expecting a child together, and immediately start planning out things that they’re going to do with the kid and what to get Minato and Kushina as a gift.
When Naruto is due to be born, Obito still releases the nine tailed on Konoha and attacks Minato. Hiruzen prevents the kids from battling against the Nine tails, and during the fight both Minato and Kushina are killed.
Shortly after the funeral, Kakashi is standing in front of the memorial stone when Danzo approaches him about joining Root. He decided to give it a try after Danzo talks to him about how Hiruzen ordered the kids to be kept out of the battle, preventing Kakashi and his friends from being there to do anything that might have saved Kushina and Minato.
Just like in canon, Kakashi ends up turning on Danzo when he gets the orders for Hiruzen’s assassination, and take’s hiruzen’s place when the attack is meant to happen. He still faces off against Tenzo (who he has already met at this point), and ends up going his separate ways from Root.
Hiruzen decides to keep Kakashi in Anbu, but he is no longer strictly a Hokage’s guard. At this point he starts going on propper Anbu missions, and quickly make’s a name for himself with his team and his enemies as ‘The Hound’.

I genuinely love this au, can we see more of Sasuke demanding attention?
Thank you I am so happy you enjoy this AU
Sasuke always wants to go to bed together. not just for sex, okay. He just likes to stick to going to bed between 11 and 12 although Naruto likes to stay up during the weekends till 3 in the morning playing video games or drawing comics.
Sasuke just sleeps better with Naruto in bed. It is warmer, they can cuddle and Naruto doesn’t have to wake Sasuke up at 3 am to crawl in bed. Like sure occasionally he doesn’t mind sometimes he has a late shift and other times Naruto goes out and doesn’t come home until 6 in the morning, and that is fine..But not if it is going to be three nights in a row.
So Sasuke says it has gotten late and he was preparing for bed, each time walking back to the living room. Now he is not flat out saying: “Naruto come to bed, I am tired and I don’t want you waking me up in the middle of the night because it low key gives me mini heart attacks hearing somebody walk towards the bed in the middle of the night because I still sometimes think I am 15 again and in an academy run by Danzo where I frequently had to be on guard and if not I would be beaten and get my bones broken...Also the bed is cold and I want you to warm it up.”
No.
He does it in steps. He will first announce that is has gotten late, then that he is tired. then that is going to bed. then that he brushing his teeth. then that he in a pyjama shirt ( just an orange big shirt with some lame anime logo on it which is actually Naruto’s, but when he ordered it it was two sizes too big and now it Sasuke’s pyjama shirt) He would then sit next to Naruto and kinda watch him play...Say he is tired again. And if Naruto still doesn’t budge he will tuck on Naruto’s shirt and ask if he isn’t tired. Then he just lays his head on Naruto’s shoulder, then he puts his legs over Naruto. Then he wraps his arms around Naruto. Then he moves his legs and wraps them around Naruto too. So now his a tumor around Naruto.
Then Naruto looks over at Sasuke and says if he tired he can just go ahead and go to bed.
Sasuke would mutter he did that last night and the night before that.
Naruto says he just really into this game right now.
Sasuke doesn’t speak and just remains still.
“I am not tired yet, Sasukee..” Naruto says.
“Okay...” he says, “I can maybe make you tired?”
“Babe, I read in this magazine that is really a toxic trade to use sex to get your way.”
“I was actually talking about lavender candles, some sleepy tea and a white noise maschiene.” Sasuke gets up, kissing his husband’s cheek.
“Goodnight.”
“Did you say lavender candles? Babe...I am coming! I am coming !”

Could you do a Naruto fanfiction recommendation? I loved your Sakura one but I was curious if you would do one in general for the series?
1.) serendipity by stirringwinds. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Sasuke had never known Senju Hashirama in person, of course. But he had grown up hearing stories about the First Hokage at his mother’s knee—about the legend who had defeated the most powerful member of their own clan. Enough stories to recognise what he was seeing—and to know he was witnessing his teammate perform the impossible. Or, in the fight against Gaara during Suna’s attempted invasion of Konoha, the Ichibi’s attempt to kill Sakura awakens an unexpected power. It changes the destiny of Team Seven forever.
Yes, this is about Mokuton!Sakura but this is in Sasuke’s pov and, oh boy, is it so interesting in his point of view. There’s not only world building but nods to real life history that makes in the (casual) history nerd in me get really excited. So far we’ve only seen Uchiha clan politics that Sasuke remembers from when his family arrived but if this is ever continued the current politics is one of the main things  I look forward too.
2.) These Moments We Take for Granted by Applepie. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Kakashi dies to Pain’s attack and wakes up in another world. It’s a world where Kakashi hadn’t failed Obito’s final wish and sacrificed himself for Rin’s sake instead. It’s a Konoha too similar, yet so different that Kakashi can’t bear to impose. So he doesn’t – not as ‘Kakashi’, at least.
I’m dying for the next chapter of this. The cliff hanger is partially why the other reason is the story is just that good.
3.) Yes, my weird depressed half-tree uncle by Aesoleucian. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Sarada is such a lonely kid, and Sakura has such a dissociative disorder. Where are Sakura's parents? Where is the support? Being a single mom is hard and therefore I crafted this AU where Obito survives the war and retires to help restore his clan which he helped murder.
A good way to get me to love any fic: let characters who go through traumatic situations actually show they’re not okay afterwards.
4.) your skeleton will carry by theformerone. On ao3. Rated E. Summary: He doesn't want to have children for the clan that murdered his father, or for the village that let it happen.
Neji and Sasuke discover that they are more alike than they think.
I’m so glad the author tagged this Anti Sandaime. That tag is the reason why I found this beautiful fic.
5.) Just the Usual Habits by Applepie. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Sakumo has no idea where all of these habits of Kakashi's are coming from. In which five-year-old Kakashi forgets the existence of his left eye, loses his ability to lie believably, and is a little too knowledgeable about the Birds and Bees. Still, no matter what oddities went on in Kakashi's head, one thing is certain – the boy will always love his father, through thick and thin.
6.) Get Shisui by DoodlesOfTheMind. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Get Shisui. It was a common refrain throughout the Uchiha compound, though its meaning had shifted a number of times over the years.
Both beautiful and heartbreaking.
7.) a beating heart of stone by FantasyDeath. On ao3. Rated Not Rated. Summary: During Iruka's first year teaching — on his own, because apparently there is a severe lack of teachers — he loses his curriculum, gets into a low-key fight with Shimura Danzo and accidentally creates an army. To be fair, none of this was planned.
8.) In Sound Judgement by NegativeAperture. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: The main question, she thinks, isn’t her chance at survival or whether she’ll stick to the plot. No, it’s whether she should change the inherently flawed system that has caused every single problem ever. Arguably, she’s in the best position to fix it. People are certainly more willing to listen to you when you threaten them with the giant fox demon in your gut. But what would the cost be? Her morals? Her humanity?
The road to hell is paved with good intentions after all. (In which a human rights lawyer is reincarnated into a world without morality, without logic, and most of all, without laws. Helping the world was easier when people weren’t ninjas.)
Even if self inserts or ocs are not your thing I still strongly suggest you read this.
9.) Mirage by xantissa. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Can be read as stand alone. Itachi's ANBU exam through Kakashi's eyes. Kakashi knew something wasn't right with the whole thing, he just couldn't put his finger on what exactly.
10.) Catch Me (If You Can) by BasicallyAnIdiot. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Five times the ANBU tried to catch Uzumaki Naruto (and that one time someone else did).
Why you should read this: “Knowing Naruto-kun,” Itachi interrupted from his locker as he checked his arm bracers, “If he had more than a hour, the traps were at least 2 layers deep.” He closed the locker door firmly, mask in hand, “But he can be caught.”
“Lies and hearsay.” Neko’s muffled offer came from the women’s shower area.
“Impossible. Never happened.”
A delicate brow arched, and Itachi continued. “There is one person in the village who can successfully catch Uzumaki Naruto whenever he feels inclined to.”
Inu sat up like a shot, unheeding the bag of ice dropping to his lap with a thud.
“Who? Is it the Commander? Hokage-sama?”
Shisui snorted, and transitioned smoothly to a new pose, “He means the only chunin in the history of chunin to turn down a full position in ANBU corps, complete with no probation and instant pay raise.”
Inu was silent for a moment. Then he declared, “I will find this chunin and make him my teacher.”
11.) Fish Stew by Masu_Trout. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: There was a bowl of stew in Kisame's lap, a cup of tea on the ground next to him, and a small blank-eyed teenager staring at him from over the rim of his own teacup.
Kisame's new partner is one of the strangest people he's ever met, and that's coming from a man with gills on his face.
12.) What A Big Heart You Have by LullabyKnell. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: In which a little red fox saves the big white wolf.
Bless this fic.
In which Hatake Sakumo lives.
13): Autonomy by beetlebee. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: "But this Not-Sensei soulmate guy could be anybody," Naruto whines.
Sasuke narrows his eyes. "No. He tried to act like Kakashi, use his techniques. He must be familiar with him already..."
"They could be childhood friends!" Sakura gasps.
"Sensei has friends?" Naruto asks, squinting at Obito.
"Or he's a stalker." Sasuke grips the kunai he still hasn't put away.
"I'm not a stalker," Obito lies, pushing away the kunai edging towards him.
----
(A soulmate bodyswap AU)
I would kill to read a sequel of this where we see Kakashi’s in Obito’s body.
14.) Written with Heart by Brookelocks. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: "Sometimes just sharing your opinion or a conversation about something someone else enjoys, even if you have to grit your teeth through it, can be the little push of support that makes them keep pursuing their passion."
or Kakashi has a strange way of showing his support, Jiraiya doesn't mind.
15.) The Good Life by orphan_account. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: There had to be protocol for this. They were shinobi in a hidden village; there was protocol for everything. Sadly, the authors of the Konoha Mission Administration Office Employee Handbook had committed the potentially fatal oversight of not dedicating a single paragraph to the now more than hypothetical situation of your current Hokage starting a mostly one-sided screaming match with your former Hokage in front of your very desk.
16.) these chains on me won't let me be pg13. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: The first time you ever feel like a shinobi, you are ugly and messy and scared out of your mind and not even wearing your hitai-ate. — implied sakura/ino
Out of all the Sakura centric fics I’ve read - trust me I have read a lot - this is till one of my favorites.
17.) got a boy in the war by Lisse. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: Naruto's parents don't so much fall in love as accidentally trip over it.
18.) sabotage by stirringwinds. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: “Itachi,” His mentor and commanding officer says grimly, his single visible eye angry, the line of his jaw tense under the black of his mask. “You forget that I was the Yondaime’s student. I may not be as politically influential as those old codgers sitting on the council, but there is plenty I can do to try and stop this shitshow.”
The horrible, cold feeling in the pit of his stomach hasn't vanished. But, staring at the firm, unflinching expression on his captain’s face, he feels the tiniest flicker of…hope.
Or: In another universe, Itachi breaks down and ends up spilling the beans to Hatake Kakashi.
Honestly, damn it why couldn’t this have happened?
20.) Nothing like the storm by Aesoleucian. On ao3. Rated Not Rated. Summary: There's a girl in Kushina's class at the academy, with perfect hair and perfect poise. She's nothing like loud, angry Kushina, but she's not exactly shy either.
21.) Shine Bright, Shine Far, (Oh Sun of Mine) by Applepie. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: This Konoha is not the one Himawari knows; everything is wrong, and everyone is gone. A strange man who's not Papa is claiming to be the Hokage.
22.) i have a girlfriend!? by chadsuke. On ao3. Rated G. Summary: ino wants training from the best genin kunoichi - naturally, that means tracking down tenten.
23.) Eyestealer by nirejseki, robininthelabyrinth (nirejseki). On ao3. Rated Summary: Hashirama really doesn't approve of the thoughtful way his father looks at his younger brother's bright red eyes. He's sure it doesn't mean anything good for anyone.
He's right.
I just binge read this today (I haven’t even bookmarked it yet) and now I’m left wanting for more darker than canon Hashirama.
24.) Unison by Laylah. On ao3. Rated M. Summary: Kakashi knows damn well that it isn't a healthy coping mechanism.
Do read the warnings at the top of the author’s notes.
25.) Got Nothing to Prove (but I'ma show you how I do) by GuardianMars. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: Civilians and orphans are always used as cannon fodder. Sakura’s not sure where she first came by this phrase. Whether she heard it or read it, she can’t quite remember, but it stuck in her head and it stays in the back of her mind whenever Team 7 takes a mission.
When Sakura and Tenten get placed on a temporary team looking into a series of kidnappings of local village girls, Sakura is naturally worried. She doesn't want to be cannon fodder. When the mission goes to pot, Sakura and Tenten find themselves far away from home and with only each other to rely on. As it turns out being cannon fodder is the least of their worries.
26.) Once Again by pupeez4eva. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: If you asked anyone what they thought of Sasuke Uchiha, they'd say that he was cheerful, overly-hyper, and loved glitter and sweaters WAY too much.
(Mabel Pines is reborn as Sasuke Uchiha. Unsurprisingly, this changes things a lot).
27.) Blame it on the Moon by Tozette. On ao3 (you can only see this if you have logged-in ). Rated G. Summary: Itachi likes cats. In hindsight, that's probably his first mistake.
* * *
Really? Thought Itachi dubiously. He did it anyway. "For love and justice," he deadpanned flatly.
28.) Adoption by Defenestration; or, A Family Can Be A Fox Demon, Its Jinchuuriki, and Three Dozen Highly-Trained Assassins elumish. On ao3. Rated T. Summary: He will not be the ANBU who let the jinchuuriki plummet to his death out a fourth story window. Let that be another ANBU’s legacy.

Hello, it's me again. Thank you for answering my last question, I really apprecite how you give an elaborated answer, thoroughly explaining your point of view. My next question for you: is there any other character (or characters) that you would have like to see Sasuke interacting with, but in cannon he had very little contact or no contact at all? Why?
Tumblr media
Hello again, and thanks for coming by~
This is a cool question, there isn’t just one character I’d have liked to see Sasuke interacting with more, mostly because I really love Sasuke’s interactions with almost anyone, some superficial fans see him as smug and arrogant or always brooding and ‘emo’ but to me he’s neither. He’s just aloof and usually lost in his own thoughts, and uninterested to most things with no problem in saying it, but when he is interested in something or someone he has his own cute way of showing it. But let me start with the list of characters.
Shikamaru
Both are very smart but in different ways. Both are observant and strategic. Both are usually lost in their own thoughts, one in contemplation of clouds and stuff, the other lost in memories and plans and considerations. Both are familiar with revenge, although one has been condemned and the other not at all. At his best Shikamaru is open-minded, as shown in the way he never had prejudices against N*ruto as a kid. I think in a post-ending setting he might be one of the first to actually talk to him because he knows how it feels to want revenge above everything, among all things, so he shouldn’t be one of those who judge him. At his worst, Shikamaru’s individuality has been brainwashed by Konoha like everyone else, so he might keep an eye on him cause he doesn’t trust him. Which means darker interactions and possibilities. Also his shadow jutsu is an interesting one in this setting.
Kiba
Sasuke loves animals. Kiba has a dog, actually Kiba is a sort of dog as well lol. He’s similar to N*ruto because of his assertive, loud, enthusiastic attitude but he’s less flashed out ofc, and he lacks N*ruto’s possessive, imposing and generally negative traits. Like I said here Akamaru would sense Sasuke’s kind soul and Kiba would follow his best friend’s ‘advice’. Sasuke would get along with Akamaru and Kiba would talk to him, Sasuke would not be talkative at all but he’d pet Akamaru a lot. Their interactions would be kinda like NS but healthier? But lol the word itself sounds so boring. Cuter sounds better. Also, Kiba being ‘beastlike’ in certain ways, and Sasuke being passive means possibility for dark imagery.
Sai
I’m really disappointed that except for fighting in the beginning they didn’t really interact in canon because Sai is his replacement…and tbh Team Yamato was much better, as a team, than Team7. Anyway. Sai and Sasuke have something in common: they both were loved and protected by their big brothers, who died, sacrificing themselves for them, in a way or another. It’s a lot in common, actually. I wrote a scene about this in my fic In Power We Entrust The Love Advocated. Both are blunt, but in a different way. Sasuke knows what he’s saying and why, if he steps over social norms it’s because he doesn’t care. Sai ignores social norms, he’s without filter and awkward, and he tries to learn with sometimes terrible results. Their interactions would be awkward and weird at first. Sai was Danzo’s subordinate, this would make Sasuke wary of him; but also, Sai was Danzo’s slave, he had no choice in this. Almost like Itachi. Sasuke would understand this very well. Also, my personal headcanon is that since Danzo formed Root after the massacre, he told Itachi’s story to those shinobi, both to teach them that shinobi must carry on every mission assigned no matter what, and to teach them that emotions are a bad thing. Sai would more or less know about Itachi and he would tell Sasuke, in a way that didn’t judge, but that instead admired him. And Sasuke would appreciate. Their interactions would be more relaxed then, but still there would be weird comments on Sai’s side.
Ino
I don’t ship them and I don’t care much about her but her desperate cry when he was sentenced to death impressed me very much. It doesn’t just show a girl’s crush, it shows real empathy and compassion for the destiny of a person she once had a crush on. Cause she did move on when she first got interested in Sai imo, like normal people do btw. So it would be cute to see a girl interact with him for real, with no secret agenda or smth.
Gaara
What a wasted potential their relationship was…in pt1 creepy monster Gaara was interested in him, before N*ruto took over. In pt2 Gaara acts like the Kazekage with a desperate broken Sasuke attacking their meeting, but he also sheds a tear for him. Gaara was really saved cause he was a monster. Sasuke isn’t and was never one, and he didn’t need to be saved but the narration pushes that direction. Gaara was interested in Sasuke’s fate in ep479, I think he would not judge him (his official Kazekage position aside) and he would like to bond with him somehow. Sasuke admires strength and Gaara is very strong, so he would not ignore him. And Sasuke talks about politics as well. Gaara would listen and talk as well. And he would stare at him a lot. But I wrote about this already. Besides there’s a lot of dark potential as well. Because imo it’s interesting to think that there’s still some darkness in his heart and somehow he’d let it out with a passive masochistic Sasuke who feels like he needs to atone for his sins.
Kisame
He was Itachi’s partner, he knows a lot about Itachi because he’s observant, and Sasuke is the one who killed his partner. He was snarky about it with Obito and Sasuke himself but I (like to) think that he was feeling something, like resentment, towards Sasuke for killing Itachi. After all, no matter his reasons, he sure preferred Itachi. I also like to think that during the time Sasuke and Team Taka stayed in Obito’s hideout as Akatsuki members, he made no mystery of the truth about Itachi, and I like to think that he asked Kisame about his brother. (which kinda opens to the dark stuff cause Kisame being angry at him because he killed Itachi…you got it)
Tobirama
I find him very interesting despite disagreeing with his politics, and I really liked his interactions with Sasuke, especially the way he first insulted his clan and rudely talked to him, but then he tried to protect him against Madara. And I liked how Sasuke humbly, pragmatically and with an open mind he listened to him without letting his feelings get in the way, without getting offended. I would have liked to fight together more, and to see him protecting him more actively, not being blocked by those black sticks. And I would have liked him to openly praise Sasuke and his abilities like he did in his mind.
Madara
I’ll forever be salty at how their interactions were little and not emotionally charged at all. I mean Sasuke is the last Uchiha alive and Madara was another founder, the former head of the clan…I get that he was fighting a war and I know he did show interest in Sasuke’s eyes (and he acknowledged the pain he felt to obtain them) and he did try to get him on his side, and I get that Sasuke was all hyped up to protect the village because Itachi, but still. Like, Madara’s plan was to create a new world, he could have told Sasuke, he could have told him that Itachi would have been there, since his allies Obito and Kabuto were defeated or being defeated. Ugh.
my madasasu tag. my madasasu edits and meta.
Orochimaru (&Kabuto)
I like all part2 interactions between them, and I really like the way they became after Orochimaru was brought back, but I’m also interested in their interactions in Otogakure, the way he trained Sasuke, the forbidden substances he got him to take, the forbidden jutsu he taught him and the forbidden things they required to be done (think whatever here lol). The way he trained Sasuke to take poisons and not be affected, I’m sure they were all painful and hard things to bear, and I’m sure than in part of them he was strapped to a table, and others he was really really exhausted and badly injured, after. Not to mention the way Orochimaru talked to him, how he manipulated him using Itachi and his weakness compared to him, how he was ‘kind’ to him in his creepy way. All the things Sasuke had to witness beside him and how he decided to free the prisoners, and Team Taka ofc. Speaking of which.
Team Taka
They did have a lot of interactions but I wanted more both pre ending and post ending. How Sasuke first met them, how he decided they were the ones he needed. Their travels, their conversations, their nightmares, their bonding moments.
Sasuke and Karin’s conversations. Both suffered great trauma, both lost their families.
Juugo being protective and loyal over Sasuke but also! his dark side coming out against him and Sasuke welcoming it and becoming his cage, but kinda getting hurt in the process.
Suigetsu admiring Sasuke and wanting to be noticed by him but being obnoxious and mischievous. And kinda sadistic. And Sasuke being ok with it cause he’s passive.
Special mentions, in and out of canon:
Deidara
I really loved their fight, the strategy, the contrast between their personalities. I like that both have an inferiority complex, especially towards Itachi, and they both worked hard to get stronger, but they act differently. Deidara is loud and apparently messy and he loudly brags his art and abilities, Sasuke is silent and calm and uninterested but he is proud of his achievements, as shown when he explains Deidara what he did and he points out that it’s chidori, not raikiri. His version of the jutsu. Other things in common? They’re both reckless with their bodies when it comes to achieve their goal. I’d love an AU where they interact, like my Akatsuki AU. It’s kinda like NS in a way. also.
Obito
They spent a lot of time together in canon but it’s not shown. It’s some of my canon behind the screen thingies, and I’d love to see any interactions between them. Obito knows the truth about Itachi, he knows Itachi while Sasuke doesn’t. He wants to know anything about his brother and I’m sure he asked him a lot. Obito told him stuff also because he needed to manipulate Sasuke against the village, but also because he feels some little attachment between the other Uchiha, just like he felt some for Itachi. There’s a scene that is always overlooked and that I liked a lot, in ep375 when Obito is about to be ‘killed’ by Kakashi and before he’s taken over by Madara, Sasuke is there and Obito refers to him as ‘fellow traitor’. I like that he kinda aknowledged Sasuke’s presence in that moment ok. To do such thing while Kakashi and Madara are clearly the strongest presences for him, I like to think that Sasuke left an impression on him.
(my obisasu tag and meta)
Shisui
I mean, in the filler non massacre arc. He did train Sasuke after all. I’d have liked to see more. But it’s no mystery, that arc inspired me greatly and if now I ship Shisasu even in other contexts it’s because of it.
my shisasu tag. my shisasu edits and meta.
Hiruzen
Only because I’d like Sasuke to tell him that he’s just as guilty as his buddy Danzo. That old a**hole.
