Do people care about danganronpa ocs. idk. I care about mine
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are updated references! I made them when I was 11 and hyperfixating on danganronpa so much it was insane
Um,,, here's the old references,,,,,,,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yea theyre kinda ugly but it's okay. But anyway!!!!! Here's some stuff about them!!!!!!!!!
-Kana was the first danganronpa oc I ever made. She also has a fan made little sister made by and old friend I used to have. I also used to draw her deathly thin when I was little?? So I made her a bit bigger for more diversity. She isn't proud of her talent
-Kugutsu can perform all type of puppetry, string, handheld, and like,, the other types too. He also has a skill for creating his puppets from scratch, preferring more plush like designs. Though despite being quite dramatic while performing, he's very laid back
-Chaiicais talent first started as a hobby, creating small bombs to see what she could do, their family noticed her talent and they got hired to create bombs for companies for company reasons. Idk. She's also bilingual and can speak spanish
-Sabu started a side job when she was young, volunteering to substitute early grade classes. When schools caught notice of how well the early grades were learning with her, she gradually started substituting for higher and higher grades. Sometimes she'll even substitute for collages
-Saidon grew up in a loving family with a known talent for cutting hair, once it was Saidons turn to work at the family business, she was noticably exceptional at the task. The most difficult and intricate haircuts she could do in a breeze, she even cuts her families hair every now and then
-Masuku ever since 1st grade, was a star in the classroom. Passing every test with 100%, in 5th grade she skipped multiple grades to highschool. He was shown off on multiple news stations. All the attention made them turn sour, thinking her childhood was ripped away from him,,, so they took over the new class of hopes peak

So, hello! (@^◡^) Here be Fanganronpa ships. Enjoy, and request your OTPs, BroTPs, NoTPs, etc. Remember that it's a blog mostly spoiler-free or with light spoilers only, so some info about characters might be revealed as false in the later chapters of a Fangan. Interact with that in mind! When requesting, please do NOT tell big spoilers, in case I haven't yet finished the Fangan. Also, you can request ships you dislike, but please refrain from spreading hate towards shippers or Fangan creators. Thank you (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
If you're the creator of any of the posted Fangans and you have any concerns (with the art, the mentioned ship or otherwise), let me know!

I think that it's awesome and really funny that everyone finally accepted that Diana Chiem probably isn't real and decided to fill the offscreen sister-shaped hole in their hearts with Felicity Giles.

Foster Parent comforting them after a nightmare
Tumblr media
[ SCENARIO ] [ Kotoko, Nagisa, Masuru, Jataro, Monaca ] [ Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls ]
⚠️ This contain spoilers about their backstory
Tumblr media
They are my babies, I would give the the sun, the moon and the stars if I can ❤️ Anyways, im FINALLY writing for them again!! IM SO HAPPY!!
I don't care what people think or say, I know Monaca suffered a lot too, the fear she felt when she sees Hanji again is REAL!!
Tumblr media
Kotoko Utsugui
Kotoko doesn't really like to talk about what happened to her, she gets pretty mad whenever someone or something reminds her about her past, and even so she prefers to act like it she doesn't mind it anymore, what happened in the past it stays on the past, and now that she has someone who cares for her why she will like to remember so disgusting things?
But as much as she tried to forget her trauma still hunt her down from time to times, that fear that exist deep inside her of one day the horrible parents she had will come for her and make her return to her old life (if she still continue going to the drama club she feels insecure about it from time to time too)
Saddly, all the feelings and fears she tries to ignore sometimes come to her as a dream, as a terrible nightmare where no matter how much she call for your name you aren't there, instead she just see her father, who with a big smile congratulate her for her amazing performance and remember her that there is something that she still have to do
Kotoko wake up all scared before something even can happen because she just couldn't handle all of that again, tears already falling from her eyes, her whole body shaking and trying to cover her body while trying to normalize her breathing
It depends on how bad her nightmare was to what she will do next, if it wasn't that bad she will try to calm down by herself, not really wanting to bother you and being anxious about going out of her room, but is more likely that at the end she goes to your room to at least sleep by your side, in the other hand if the nightmare was really bad she won't be able to calm down so she just runs to your room crying almost imediatly, also it could be that she scream while sleeping or when she wakes up what will alert you so you will be the one going to her room
Either way, Kotoko is just crying, she isn't able to explain what happened and she doesn't want to talk about it neither (she even almost scream at you if you ask her about the nightmare just because she is scare), she just want to be in your arms, she just want to know that she is with you and that you won't let those perverts touch her again, if Kotoko manage to say something will be to either ask you to please hold her or to ask you if you will let that people reach her
Kotoko doesn't want to leave your arms so you will have to hold her for a long time until she calm down, as well sweet and soft touches (such as caress her hair or back and small kisses on the forehead) and reasuring her that something like that will never happen again help her calm down faster, still it will take her some time to fall sleep again and there is no way she will do it alone
The next days Kotoko will be more quiet than usual, even a little shy with her head down, she isn't really embarrassed about waking you up is just that the nightmare really affected her, but with some time she will feel better and will go back to her normal self again
Tumblr media
Nagisa Shingetsu
Nagisa doesn't really have problems with talking about what happened to him in the past and he even talk about like it isn't nothing or that it doesn't bother him, but in reallity all that he suffered affects him more that even he knows
Nagisa were exposed not just standards too high and a constant rejection but to the effects of drugs in order to make him work more and more, and even when he acts mature deep down he is still searching for the approval of the ones he loves and is startled by the minimum errors
For being in a house where he is appreciated by just being himself and don't ask him to be perfect or to spend all the night studing the fear of messing things up or even disappointing you hunt him from time to time (not always but it still there), so having a nightmare related to it isn't totally strange
Dreaming about his father and all that he went through it doesn't really affect him, it bothers him and it startle him, but aside from that he doesn't have much troubles with it, is dreaming about you being disappointed of him what makes him afraid, you being mad, disappointed or even calling him a failer is what makes him afraid, is that what will make him anxious, desperate trying to explain himself and apologize for his error, even promising that it isn't going to happen again and he wil make it up for it (but if you don't seem to wanting to heard him that will lead him to a panic attack)
When Nagisa is finally able to wake up he is afraid and sweating, he may even jump a little in his bed, he is so nervous that he is even disoriented, it take him a moment to start to calm down and realice that he is in his room, that everything was just a dream, even so he isn't fully calm
The last thing he wants is to bother you (specially if the nightmare really affected him), so Nagisa tries to calm down, repeating himself that everything was just a dream and that you aren't like that, you'd told him a million of times that you don't expect perfection from him
He may be able to calm down enough to try to go back to sleep once again, but if the nightmare was specially scary or it affected him a lot he won't be able so he just goes out of bed and take a walk around the house, maybe a glass of water could help him calm down. He doesn't really want to wake you up, even if he know that you won't be mad for it the memory of your bothered expression and voice of his nightmare make him anxious, he doesn't want to see it in real life
Its okay if you find him in the middle of the night in the kitchen or you see him until the morning, Nagisa doesn't really craves for direct comfort he just need the reasurance that you aren't mad or dissapointed of him, so for him is okay just continuing with your normal routine (although he will be more talktive and clingy, like quietly asking for the parental love and comfort)
He doesn't want to talk about his nightmare, so even if you insist the most you will get from him is admitting that he had a nightmare, he not just doesn't care for it but he is a little embarrassed of needing/wanting comfort, so if you try he will complain at little at first but totally accept it (specially if is a hug)
Tumblr media
Masuru Daimon
Masuru normally don't talk about the abuse he suffered from his father mainly because he doesn't see a point on doing so, and since now he has a home and a parent that always welcome him with open arms he doesn't see why he should remember the bad past with the demons
Also, his past doesn't affect him directly, it makes him pretty aggresive from time to time but it is something he can change, he is just bother by it when he remember it but aside from that he normally just act as the energetic child he is
For Masuru to have a nightmare about his past of abuse is more likely to have been triggered by something during the day, something that had make him nervous or remember him about it. His new house is one where he is more free and appreciated, and even if he can desesperate you from time to time you never really decided to hit him, so having a nightmare where is again with the abusive father he had is pretty shocking for him and he doesn't like it, he want to be where he isn't attacked, he want to be with you so even in his nightmare he is searching for you, but you aren't anywhere, what makes him more an more desperate
When Masuru finally manage to wake up he is shaking and sweating, still it depends in how bad his dream was to how he will react, if it wasn't too bad he just wake up scare but still he will try to calm down, while if his nightmare were really bad even after waking up (probably with a little scream) he is so afraid that even will have a panic attack. But in both cases he is pretty scared and is pretty loud while trying to calm down (specially in a panic attack because he tend to self harm), so is more likely he ends up waking you up for the noises and you go to his room
When you enter in his room/knock on his door he is immediatly startled but by recognizing you his tears start to fall from his eyes because as much as he like to act all rough and brave, deep down he knows that he doesn't have to fear when he is with you, also it depend in how scared he is to his next move, either asking you what are you doing there or running to your arms, but it doesn't matter much his reaction because he wants your comfort
Is probably that Masuru start to have a panic attack, depending in how scare he was and he will try to hit himself to make him calm down unless you guide/teach him another way to be able to calm down (a less aggresive way), as well that he is able just cry into your arms depend in your relationship and how much he trust you, otherwise he will be trying to convice you that he isn't scare at all
However, not matter how much the nightmare affected him at the next morning Masuru return to his normal self and just be cheerful since the morning (but if the nightmare was really bad he will be a little startled when he does something wrong or you seem mad for a while)
Tumblr media
Jataro Kemuri
Jataro has been treated so poorly for all his life, not just for his mother but his friends used to treat him bad too, so it take him a long time to get used to being with someone that truly cares for him and loves him just for being him
Jataro doesn't has any problem with talking about his past of abuse, although he talk about it like if it is something normal for how used he is to it, he just repeat what his mother used to tell him (especially when he start to take a liking for you because he doesn't want to hurt you with his horrendous appearance)
As he slowly start to get more used to and comfortable with your kindness towards him it will be a while where he is more nervous about making you mad, being insecure of himself thinking that he won't be enough or that he will end up making you mad (he kinda expected it as something that will obviously happen)
For him to have a nightmare related to this is more likely to be caused because something through the day trigger him and is more common to happen when he is just getting used to his new life, it could be that he is with his mother, either that thinking that being with you was all just a dream or that you had throw him with her again because you don't want him anymore, also it could be with you the dream, making you so mad that you start treating him bad like her used to do, and probably even force him to wear the mask once again or even that he end up hurting you still somehow believing what his mother used to tell him
No matter what his nightmare was about he wakes up frighten, it take him a moment to realice where he is and still his anxiety doesn't fully goes away, the more the nightmare scared and affected him the more anxious he will be, leading him to start crying for nervousness and even to compulsive scratching his arms and head
He may not be really loud but is at least enough to alert you, and the moment you approach to him (either entering on the room or knocking on the door) he is immediatly startled and just stare a moment at you trying to decipher who it is still lost in his anxiety, and when he reconize you he is mixed between wanting to be in your arms and feeling ashame of himself, so he just continue being troubled by his anxiety while saying little apologizes (but don't apologizing for something in concret)
In that moment Jataro really craves for comfort but he isn't going to really ask for it because he feels ashame, just being able to be in your soft embrace will help him start to calm down and a direct reasurance that you aren't mad at him or that you don't think of him like his mother did comfort him a lot
He isn't completely sure if he will be able to fall sleep alone again but he is willing to try just because he doesn't want to bother you, but if you don't mind he will be happy for you to stay with him until he falls sleep (and will sleep with you only if you insist)
The next day he will still be a little nervous, not wanting to bother you with his presence so he will be a little quiet for a while, until he feel completely sure that he isn't bothering you
Tumblr media
Monaca Towa
It isn't easy for Monaca to trust in someone, she could be acting all happy and charming and even calling you her parent already but deep down she isn't fully used to his new life and even a little wary of you, is just that she goes carefuly, little by little
And as just as she doesn't fully trust you she isn't going to talk about what happened to her right away, she even cover it saying that Monaca was really loved by everyone (more specifically in her school) and that everyone wanted to be her friend, and even when she feel completely comfortable with you she doesn't know if she will tell you the truth
For her to have a nightmare related to this isn't really common, or at least no to be enough to truly frighten her, so is more likely during the day something trigger her and/or she is specially anxious. Her nightmare could vary, being about her abusive family, by just being there with them again and you were nowhere to seem, or even worst that you are the one leaving her with them or even mocking her for trusting you and starting to act like how her family used to do, ignoring her and even calling her a pest
When she finally wakes up she is really nervous and even sweating a little, her past afect her more that she likes to admit so having to re-live it as a nightmare isn't something good for her, she is looking everywhere a little disoriented and really startled by it, still it doesn't take her long to realice that she is safe in her room, the room you designed for her and she was free to decorate at her taste, just that is really comforting for her and since she doesn't really make much noises while calming down, there isn't a reason why you will know about it
However, it actually will affect her much more the nightmare if you are the one on the nightmare, she tries to make it seem like it doesn't bother her and that is nothing but it slowly make her pretty nervous and insecure, going as far as making her almost imposible to properly calm down, so is more likely that she end up going to your room and getting into your bed quietly to at least be by your side, even snuggling to you
Monaca doesn't want to talk about her nightmare nor admit that she was scared, so if you insist enough or she already trust you she may be willing to say that she had a nightmare, not really wanting to give details about it and she doesn't like to make a big deal of it neither
Monaca doesn't exactly ask for comfort but she wouldn't mind receiving it but still she prefer just doing the common things like any other day, from the outside it seems like she isn't bothered at all but deep down she is still a little nervous and will be a little wary not just of you but of her own actions, something that she does almost unconsciously, as well as insisting a little more on helping you in whatever she can or talking with you, even small chats she just need the reasurance that you still care for her

actually i know i just wrote an essay in your replies but i have more to say and would like to open it to forum so im in your inbox now. the problem with naming a character as a komaeda is that you are asking two different questions: 1. is the character a komaeda (a la being a vriska, in the way fandom interprets and interacts with them) or 2. is the character a komaeda (in narrative ans archetype)? usually these are not phrased as exclusive questions, but in order to truly understand a komaeda, we must acknowledge that these are two different distinctions. they are not mutually exclusive, but they are separate questions. for instance, traffic!scott is a komaeda (in sense 1 but not in sense 2.)
to understand why type 2 komaedas are rare, we have to understand that komaeda is a deeply contextual character. komaeda is both the amalgamation of many different white haired anime boy archetypes (most notably kaworu nagisa (nge)) and exists within the context of foiling naegi makoto. komaeda in canon exists to answer the question, what if naegi makoto was dialed up to ten? he exists as naegi's traits amplified to contrast the moral of the first game; while dr1 is about hope & despair, sdr2 is about rejecting this binary.
so what do we look for in a type 2 komaeda?
1. religious-like devotion to a concept or principle that may be considered as fantastical in reality, but governs factors in universe either preternaturally (luck) or societally (talent). this obsession must have affected the character's life in the past to the utmost degree, and thus is the basis by which they examine the world.
2. relationship to a protagonist. i cant expand on this without explaining why komahina is important to the dr universe lol but its part of point 1
3. black and white thinking, blue and orange morals. must be seen as an outsider, offputting to the rest of the cast
4. contradictory self esteem. both having complete confidence in their abilities and seeing themself as inherently more enlightened than others, but also putting themself beneath those they deem to be the saviors of society. the character must be at odds with both these traits, and desire to be part of the savior class, often via self sacrifice
optional narrative traits:
1. deuteragonist
2. exists to reveal flaws within the status quo and to make the viewer/reader/player question things; exists as a watson
2a. must be exemplary of the problems within the system
2b. must foil a character who upholds the system
i hope this is helpful and not confusing. i have danganronpa autism and i take it very fucking seriously. love, evan
im nodding so hard THIS IS AWESOME and also so much more thought than i expected anyone to put in butthats a good thing this is good. i love your mind. sorry i just woke up and immediately saw this and now im going to be thinking about it all day. Scott is a type 1 komaeda but bdubs is (not but probably the closest we have) a type 2 komaeda. Sure. Lets fucking go majordubs wins again

In “Defense” Of (Liking) Teruteru (and why I’ve got a gripe with the anime)
!! MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “DANGANRONPA 2” AND “THE END OF HOPE’S PEAK ACADEMY” !!
As the blog name suggests, I love Teruteru. I’m his number one fan. I don’t support a single thing he does, but I think he’s a lot more than the flanderized “horny goblin” he’s made out to be.
To get something out of the way: though I do find myself getting attached to the stupid, simpy-horny-freaks that anime has to offer (as abhorrent as Mineta is, my love for him is unparalleled), I don’t support their actions or behavior. However, I’ll admit that I do find myself laughing at their jokes / moments. I think this trope works fine because the butt of the joke is almost always the pervert in question. As well as this, I would like these characters a lot less if any of the other characters seemed genuinely upset or traumatized by their behavior- but no, especially in Teruteru’s case, the general attitude is just that of annoyance. They think he’s a nuisance, but they don’t see him as an actual threat, and he has enough personality that the cast is still believably upset when he’s executed.
I also think the character in question being physically small is important. It makes it very visually clear that the “goblin” in question is powerless and nothing to actually be taken seriously (in this fictional scenario- IRL, let’s be real, a pervert’s a pervert).
But as far as why I like Teruteru himself: though it started just because I find it funny to “collect” horny little goblin characters, I like much more of him than that.
First of all, though many others don’t, I like his voice and design! I think he looks visually appealing from a character standpoint, even if he doesn’t completely fit in with the other characters (this is especially agregious in the anime, largely because I think they made him a bit bigger than he was in the game? Not weight-wise, more like they used photoshop, grabbed the corner, and scaled him up)
His pre-execution moments are genuinely heartbreaking / compelling, as is his motive. Though there are many instances of desperation and self-sacrifice as far as muddies in Danganropa, as of the first and second games we rarely get something as heart-wrenching as Teruteru’s. He’s helping take care of his sickly mother, and enrolls at Hope’s Peak in hopes of being able to save the family diner. He’s desperate to convince himself that everything is okay, and that his mother is alive and well- and kills to see her again / protect the rest of the group (he at least CLAIMS to have committed the murder in an attempt to protect the rest of the gang. He did genuinely care about them, to some degree.)
Teruteru also has an endearing sort of cockiness to him- what with his insistence at being called a chef and his indignance at anyone insulting his cooking (or implying it to be anything less than perfect).
Though this is more headcanon territory, I also think we see at least slight implications that he could actually be a little insecure:
-hiding his accent
-constant advances on others (potentially to appear more confident? Avoid judgement? Uncertain)
-insisting on being called a “chef” instead of a “cook”
-frequent hair combing
These are just headcanons, but needless to say he’s got more to him than his trope.
He’s endearingly cocky, he cares about his family, he doesn’t take any of the rejection he gets personally (even if he maybe should take it to heart and…yunno…stop), he’s good at what he does-
And because of this, I don’t like how he’s characterized in the anime. To clarify- I still enjoy watching the Despair Arc of the anime, because even if I dislike the handling of certain characters it’s very very enjoyable to see them animated and interacting. Same goes for Teruteru-
But….uh….
Remember how I said that a big part of why he works is his obvious inability to actually do anything? And his…general lack of actual actions to back up his flirtatious remarks? He’s a creep, but a creep with standards of some sort.
That goes out the window in the anime, where he has literal drugs with him to get people going. Though some people seem to overlook the fact that aside from the one he gave to Akane (something she wasn’t upset by, anyways, although Akane is dumb [love you Akane]), the other substances were used without his permission or without listening to him. This doesn’t defend him HAVING these things, don’t get me wrong- but still. We see him actually threaten Hiyoko, actually have items that could endanger other students- and we don’t even get to see his more likable traits? And to me, this doesn’t seem like something he’d do in the game.
In the game, his primary traits are- of course- “horny” and “cook”. But he’s also cocky, frightened, “charming” (heavy quotes), and very caring to those close to him- whereas in the anime, it’s just “horny” and “cook”. I don’t know. :/
In the anime he’s portrayed as an actual threat. As well as this, in the game we never see him get angry until his trial where he’s accused of murder. Even if he’s a creep in any other instance, he never seems to think he’s entitled to anything? And he’s generally chipper, too. Despite his creepy personality, he’s surprisingly endearing / likable. In the game he comes across as mischievous, and in the anime he comes across as threatening- and maybe that’s a bias on my end? But still. If the same thing happened in the GAME- somebody using something he had without his permission- I feel like he’d get indignant and maybe a bit snarky, not as furious and genuinely dangerous as he seems in the anime.
TLDR: There are plenty of reasons to like Teruteru! The anime does not give us any of those. I think the “The End of Hope’s Peak Academy” anime kind of butchered (no pun intended) his character. Or at least heavily flanderized it (as it did with most of the Despairs).
Sorry this is a bit messy! This is entirely my opinion, and is more of a proofread braindump than a well structured essay~

Why I Adore Charuko - A Ramble/Essay from the Charuko CEO
In this...ramble...essay, I want to break down one of my biggest OTPs I've ever had in a fandom. And that pairing? Teruko Tawaki x Charles Cuevas from Danganronpa: Despair. Commonly known as either Charuko or Lucky Chemistry. It's time I talk about why I love them & what makes them click for me!
Before I get into this, I want to remind everyone that the purpose of this is not to try and convince people to like the ship or to belittle another ship. It's purely me wanting to connect with fellow Charuko fans & have fun as I just gush about this pairing. That being said, I would appreciate if you guys please be respectful & not send hate towards this post, myself, or any other people who like Charuko. This post isn't an excuse for you to be hateful.
With that being said, let's get onto why I personally love Charuko / Lucky Chemistry!
Dynamic & Current Relationship
The dynamic between Teruko & Charles is one that I find the most fun, regardless if it's in a platonic or romantic view. I'll be skimming over the prologue since it doesn't say a whole lot about their dynamic in the beginning, and I'll dive into Ch1. In Ch1 Episode 1, Teruko is assigned to explore with Charles as a means of safety, and right off the bat, there's a few scenes that give us as viewers an idea of their dynamic. And that dynamic is blunt x snark. They make constant jabs at eachother, but also sort of think alike in some areas. Neither of them wants to be with the other, but they both know that they have no choice but to tag along eachother. Shown in the screen shots below is just a few examples of their dynamic from the episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ch1 Episode 1 really sets down the dynamic. Two individuals who are completely honest to eachother & have no problem taking jabs, but can easily come to agreements when it comes down to it. This is essentially their dynamic for most of Ch1, but there's a few more things to add that I hadn't mentioned yet.
• Teruko finds Charles fun to tease due to his flustered reactions. She refers to him as "cactus lover" and even makes a few witty marks at him that cause him to get embarrassed.
• Charles, while thinking Teruko is quite dumb, does acknowledge that she does have few bits of smartness in her, just not in the way that he does.
Moving on, their dynamic changes quite a bit in Ch2, which makes sense considering that in this point of time, Teruko closes herself off from everyone in order to not trust anyone again. Ch2 Episode ends off like this. Charles asks Teruko if she's heading to the second floor, following that if she needs a partner to explore with, then he'd do it, which she soon rejects.
This is later explored when Whit tells Teruko that Charles wants to talk to her in the infirmary. Teruko, while hesitant at first, does decide to go & see what he wants out of pure curiousity. When she arrives, she immediately gives herself a bad papercut from a book. Once Charles shows up, Teruko quickly hides her hand because of his fear of blood. While talking, Teruko drops a bit of her life story to Charles, telling him about how difficult her life has been up until this point, and Charles stands there and listens quite intently.
Moving on, Charles explains that he wanted give the secret he recieved from the secrets motive to her. He explains that this is because he acknowledges that Teruko is the type to reveal the truth when necessary. He knows she'd say something when it's called for. Teruko grabs the secret from Charles, and before she leaves, we get this:
CHARLES. WITH A BLUSH ON HIS FACE. STATES THAT HE LIKES TALKING TO TERUKO & TELLS HER NOT TO TAKE IT THE WRONG WAY.
While he explains that it's because she doesn't pity him like everyone else, there is still some genuine feelings about what he said.
Tumblr media
He straights points on their dynamic, with A GODDAMN SMILE ON HIS FACE. Charles may not be the type to be all mushy with his emotions, but the fact that he smiles while thinking of his dynamic with Teruko is very sweet. After this whole ordeal, Teruko leaves with Charles going after her due to him trying to call her out on how her behavior right now is only going to hurt her like it hurt him, with it leading to beautiful gem of MonoTV pouncing on Charles.
As the chapter progresses, there isn't too much to say about Charles & Teruko's relationship until the trial. In Ch2 Episode 11, during Teruko's fight with David, she finds herself knocked in a corner. Charles notices this, and immediately slashes down David's words.

While we don't know what was discovered due to the hiatus & the rest of Ch2 being worked on, it can be said that Charles noticed something Teruko didn't, and thinks they'll be in for a big mess.
So, what is their current relationship? Overall, it's a mixture of two snarks who are always being snide to eachother, but also individuals who are foils, thinking similarly in more ways than one.
Aesthetics & Cuteness
On top of me jusy adoring their dynamic, I'm also in love with the aesthetic & overall cuteness this ship brings.
The color palettes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'M A SUCKER FOR PURPLE & GREEN COLOR PALETTES, SO THESE TWO HAVING THOSE PALETTES IS SO LOVELY TO ME! Their palettes together can make for some beautiful art, especially if it's themed around nature. On top of that, you could put them in eachother's signature color, and it'd look really pretty! It's so aesthetically pleasing, and it gets me all giddy!
Also, they really are just so cute together! I adore ships where the pairing feels like an old married couple, and they def feel like it! Just a pairing who make fun of eachother & are just kinda silly!
THEY ARE ALSO SOSOSOSO AESTHETIC OUTSIDE OF THEIR COLORS! Like, I could put them in settings like a cottage or a forest, and they'd look so pleasing together! It'd just be so beautiful, EEEEE!
Headcanons + Conclusion
To end off this lil' ramble / essay, I'mma just drop a buncha Charuko hcs! I hope you had fun reading this! NOW ENJOY THE HEADCANONS, WEEE!
• They usually go on picnic dates, indoor dates, or baking dates!
• Charles loves to style Teruko's hair in different ways. He thinks almost any style would look pretty on her.
• Teruko tries to get into things Charles likes, such as gardening or reading. She'd just want to try and connect with him more!
• On their shopping dates, Teruko always asks Charles for his opinion on any outfit she chooses to buy / wear. He gives his honest opinions, but also reminds her that he thinks anything could look good on her.
• They're very much touch-starved, so they cuddle a lot when nobody's looking.
• GIRLFAILBOSS X MALEWIFE VIBES!
• Cottagecore softies on a nice day...Let Teruko be more girly & Charles embrace a softer side.../pos

DRDT - A Chapter 2 Narrative Analysis (& Killer Prediction)
TL;DR - DRDT's Chapter 2 is about people choosing to change in ways that work and ways that don't . Looking at it through this lens, Levi Fontana is the most likely killer for this chapter. All images belong to the DRDT Creator & if you haven't (for whatever reason) checked out the series already, please go do that! This post will contain spoilers.

All That Glitters, - What it means to "Be Good"
-> " Trauma is when we have an understanding of the way reality must function which is, at some point, broken or removed. " In Danganronpa: Despair Chapter 2 we explore people's innate desire to change & be better, how that is obstructed by false understandings of the way the world works (usually informed by trauma) and how we can overcome this misunderstanding by communicating & connecting with the people & world around us. This is a complex & taxxing process which takes time & support but it is not impossible nor is it necessarily difficult - it is simply a choice which one must continue to make if they intend on changing for the better. (Which is something which anyone can always do.) -
Tumblr media
Change - What everyone is reaching for
To Change [To be good, to be kind, to be liked by others, to relate to others, to be understood, to not be alone] - When beginning the chapter we open up on a scene between two characters who in chapter 1 were relatively secondary: Eden Tobisa & Levi Fontana. We start off the scene with Eden in tears, sobbing over the horrific deaths of both Xander & Min which she has just very recently witnessed. Eden still can't really accept what happened & it's clearly heavily affecting her but she is processing & acknowledging that she is in pain. These losses have taken their toll on her & she has been hurt by this killing game. Eden is hurting & she knows this. And in spite of this, she chooses to do what she can the situation: She makes an attempt to connect with the others in spite of her grief by making them breakfast. This is where Eden is at - She sees the situation, and she sees that it is painful, and she chooses to connect with those around her because this is how she knows to deal with grief or trauma. It's not necessarily easy for her, she's still hurting - she even says as much to Levi during their exchange: -> "Everyone is probably going to be sad for a while. For their sake, and for mine, I'll put on a happy smile!" For the sake of both herself and the others Eden is choosing to continue putting herself out there & attempting to connect with the others. This is something which clearly has an effect on Levi.
Levi Fontana, the other party in this exchange, is someone new at his talent. He doesn't have a long history with being a stylist like some of the other characters do with their talents, but it's something he's trying regardless. While we don't know his exact feelings on being a stylist, we do know that it's something he clearly prefers over whatever he was doing before. In the Prologue when approached with what he was doing before he expresses pretty strongly that he doesn't want to think about it. His past is something which haunts him, or at the very least, something which brings him discomfort. This is further affirmed during this opening interaction where Levi states: -> "But I want to move on. I want to keep trying to become a 'good person', like you, Eden." Levi believes Eden is a good person - and to an extent, he clearly idolizes this. He holds however Eden is up as a standard that he should aspire to. Her 'goodness' is something which Levi wants, and something which he currently believes he does not have. Eden rejects this - she affirms that Levi, is in fact, a 'good person' - he is reliable & has expressed a desire to protect the group, which in her eyes, makes him 'good' just on that basis. This has some type of effect on Levi. He pauses for a moment and thanks Eden. I think this is the basis of Levi's trajectory this chapter - that is to say, because his goal/mission to 'become a good person' is affirmed by Eden, everything he does after this point is put into perspective by that. Levi Fontana is trying to become a better person, to become 'good', and his general method for doing this will be based on being reliable & being someone who protects the group's safety.
All of this is a precursor & clear indicator that this chapter is focused on the group's innate dissatifaction with the way they are currently and how they continually attempt & want to be better than they were in the past so that these tragedies do not continue. Each of them has a different method of going about that goal but it is reflected in some way by nearly all characters who are given a focal point in this chapter - it is even reflected in the nature of the motive. To quote MonoTV: -> This class has a lot of secrets. Dirty, embarassing, horrifying secrets. Secrets some would kill for. Ace becomes more aggresive & defensive as a defense mechanism, Nico expresses frustration at not understanding how to connect with others, and most centrally, Arei comes to a complete lowpoint wherein she is unable to continue stagnating in her toxic hurtful worldview without it completely breaking her down. The desire to avoid something which has previously hurt you from doing so again (usually informed by a disdain for your own inability or powerlessness to prevent that thing from happening) or an expressed frustration at your own stagnation resulting in a build of unhealthy & toxic emotions which will eventually blow up in hurtful ways (Arei, Rose, Nico) is the centerpoint of this chapter, or, the catalyst for the group's desire to change which is, the central point of the chapter. People want to change & do better than they have before as time move forward & hurt continues to occur. -

Why do I even Bother? - Desire, Attempt, Stagnate, Frustrate
Misunderstanding Reality [People CANNOT be good, I CANNOT be good, people CANNOT change] Now, being able to acknowledge that a problem is there is the second hardest step in the process to healing - the hardest is then, being able to actually understand what that problem is. This is where the primary conflict of the chapter lies. Our cast, for the most part, all understand that there's a problem at this point. In chapter 1 they could maybe ignore that this problem existed, or not think about the fact that they know this problem exists, but now? They cannot. The problem is front and center, in there face, like it or not - and the solution (in a very simplified, literal way), is pretty clear: We need to cahnge. So, they want this solution - what is preventing them from reaching it?
Well, understanding what the problem is. They have now acknowledged the problem but don't really understand what it is. This is all speaking in very broad statements - each of the characters have their own way of processing & understanding this. It's not a sweeping statement about the group, there is no 'one problem', and everyone is at different levels of dealing with their problem. It is however still signficant that everyone is dealing with a problem. They're dealing with a desire to change, to find a new way of moving on from their past - and the conflict here is their inability to know what the problem is. They go in circles, over and over again, seeing a problem, not knowing how to deal with it, trying to deal it, it blowing up in their face, and then being hurt by that. This cycle, this continual back and forth, this stagnation is the conflict. A lack of clarity, seeing too many paths forward & knowing you need to take but not knowing which one that is - Stagnating in one place too long and waiting for change to happen without ever taking the first step. Even those that think they're taking a step fail to actually move anywhere because of how they refuse to connect with those around them. Ace, Teruko, Arturo - All of them are trying in their own way to do something which they believe will bring about that change they need to solve their problem, their inadequacy, and because of the isolating ways they go about this, it washes them right back to where they started.
Nico, Arei, Rose, Teruko, Ace, Arturo - most eveyone - they're stuck, stagnating, unable to move forward. This breeds frustration. It's frustrating, knowing you need to do something, but not knowing where to start. Knowing change is necessary is good but not knowing how to go about it can be petrifying and infuriating. This frustration with stagnation and the cycle therein, explore by looking at secrets of the past fueling a communal desire for change, this is how the chapter fuels it's conflicts. At it's core, it's the roadblock present in the narrative of the chapter itself: People, or the world, want to change but because they do not understand how to go about that change, stagnate and grow frustrated. This frustration builds and eventually... -
Tumblr media
Futility - Hurt. People. Hurt. People.
This cycle cannot continue forever. People are fleeting. Life, is fleeting. Even if we want something to last forever, eventually, it will come to an end. This is neither good or bad. It is simply true. This same principle can be applied to the cycle previously established: One way or another, for the better, or for the worst, that cycle is going to end. Now, I believe DRDT is pretty anti-cynicism. Actually, I'm pretty sure that's like, Danganronpa's whole deal. Trying isn't futile, and it's always worth it to continue moving forward. That doesn't mean we don't see both ends of the spectrum. It is possible to change, and it possible to break out of the cycle of stagnation - I think that's what the point of Arei's character is. It is to show the audience the a trajectory of realizing there's a problem, doing the wrong thing with the problem, being hurt because of it and then being able to actually move forward because you connected with others and eventually came to understand the core of the problem. If I had to guess, we'll probably see this again in the story, quite a few times actually since we're still relatively early. The outcome will likely be different each time, but, I do think we'll see several different people realize the right way to go about change. I also think, we'll see a lot of people do the opposite. I think, we'll probably see several people fail to connect with others and understand their hurt and why it causes them to stagnate. And, I think pretty prevalently, this will culminate in a murder. When - a person stagnates, or is in a cycle of abuse or hurt for long enough - this will eventually result in all of that pent-up frustration & hurt blowing up. Since people don't exist in a vaccum, and especially since in the killing game everyone is constantly around someone, that blow-up will hurt others. In Arei's case, that blow-up was a verbal beatdown of Eden, justified internally by her own feelings of bitterness towards the abuse she's received in the past. This was in her case, a catalyst for the better. By allowing herself to be vulnerable with others, if only for a moment, she opens herself up to the true way of moving past past hurt and changing as a person: Connecting with the people around us and expressing our hurt, and pain, and grief so that we can understand that hurt and move forward. Her trajectory (*note: we haven't all of it, I presume there's at least one or two more key scenes we'll see of Arei's progression during the trial flashbacks which complete her arc) is one where she starts off with what she believes is a solution, applies that believed solution, is hurt by the results of that, and as a result of this hurt blows up and is able to begin healing and changing for the better. If this is the case, then, I'm inclined to believe that it is very possible her killer went through a reflected version of this trajectory. They start off not knowing what to do, pick up on a method that believe will help them change for the better, apply this method, are unsuccesful as a result of this application, and eventually, stagnate long enough for it to eventually result in them blowing up and hurting someone around them - failing to truly connect with the people around them and understand the pain within in them which causes them to stagnate. In this chapter, one character has a very brief, but key, line which I think paints very clearly who fits this bill the most. -> "Why do I even bother?" Levi Fontana doesn't see himself as an equal to his peers. His general solution to his problem is trying to do better at protecting his peers and the way the story presents this is via his relationship, or rather, the deteriation of his relationship with Ace Markey. Levi and Ace's relationship is one which from day one does not have clearly expressed or healthy boundaries on either side of it's dichotomy.
Both parties assume the desires of the other based on their own projected needs at the time and going into chapter 2 this is shattered, both because of the nature of the killing game, and because of the eventual culimnation of that lack of expressed needs in chapter 1. Ace needs to be scared of something so he projects his fear onto Levi and Levi needs to protect something so he projects danger onto Ace. Ace needs to feel safe so he shifts his view of Levi into one where he can protect him and Levi needs to feel needed so he contributes to this dynamic. After a muder occurs and there's now undeniable, real danger, Ace needs someone to vent his frustration onto so he verbally berates Levi and Levi - who has up to this point been ignoring his own discomforts for the sake of what he believes is the solution to his dilemna of changing for the better - snaps as the frustration which has built up from his stagnation blows up, and this hurts Ace, who has grown to rely on Levi for some form of stability. Levi, at the start of the chapter, is now back at square one. His solution failed and again, he's hurt someone because of his inability to change. This loss is something which he seeks a solution for once again, and it just so happens, his first interaction after the end of the previous trial is withn Eden. Eden affirms to him that he is a 'good person' - and that this being a 'good person' is because of the very behaviors which previously resulted in his eventual hurting of another person. These behaviors, this tenedcy to believe that he needs to be relied on by another, or that he needs to be protecting someone, is ultimately what he needed to move away from. He needed to recognize that he is also human and that he cannot ignore his own needs in pursuit of protecting others. He need to do this, but in chapter 2, he just did it all over again - except this time - Ace did not regress. He in fact, was pushed deeper into his own self isolating mindset, something which wasn't helped by Levi's continual attempts at reestablishing the dynamic they had in chapter 1. This is futility. This is trying the same thing over and over and not seeing a new result - It's stagnation. And clearly, Levi recognized this in some way. After his exchange with Ace in the dorm room hallway, Levi gave up. He fully abandoned his previous method and while we don't see what he did from here, I'm going to take a gander and say his general solution did not change - at least, not for the better.

Is Not Gold - Sharing Grief
I think that the biggest throughline in all of this chapter is the emphasis on the necessity of communicating both good and bad feelings with others in order to find clarity. It plays this through lens of everyone processing Xander & Min's death but in all reality this just heightened problems that were already there for the characters. It's why the secrets motive was used - everyone has past grievances and hurt and pain left unprocessed, unsaid and unshared. And for that, everyone is hurting still - even before Min & Xander. This is the same for Arei, and for Eden, and for Teruko and for David - and it's also true for Levi. Which is why I believe the narrative is leading the direction that Levi is the 'antagonist' of this chapter. He isn't processing his feelings - he believes himself to be 'heartless' because he processes emotions in a slightly different way. He values action above all else and doesn't take the time to recognize that your intent is just important as your actions. Levi wants to protect others because he wants to feel like a 'good' person - finally after a life of, we don't know, but probably being made to feel like a 'remorseless murderer', he has an opportunity at 'redemption'. And he keeps failing? And he doesn't know why. And he can't share why because 'he has to be strong' 'he has to protect everyone' 'he has to prove himself through his actions rather than his words'. By suggesting that Levi is the killer and that he has the remorseless killer secret, I don't believe that means he's actually heartless, or a 'pyschopath'. I believe this is a desconstruction of that trope and a look at how people get to a point where they feel that way in the first place. Actions are important but ultimately those fall flat if we can't share our intent - the grief, the joy, the past we put behind his. If we resign ourselves to 'fate' and give up before we've even tried, then we're just setting the destination for ourselves. We aren't 'accepting' the truth, we're making it true before it is. I believe the irony in Levi's character will be that he was not truly a horrible murderer as his secret makes him out to be but by ignoring his feelings and focusing so soley on becoming a 'good person' then resigning himself when that didn't work out he became that anyway. I do have more thoughts on this case -
My specific theory is that Arei (didn't switch, but copied/dressed up as) J to 'do nice things for others' which resulted in her having a run in & interaction with Levi after the David int. He would have been feeling down and so he would've shared his feelings with Arei and she would tell him (because she knows his secret) that you can always become a better person if you choose to. Levi would take this as her being someone who can understand him (he has hers) and it'll make him happy. Say, Levi overheard that int between Arturo, Eden & Arei because he was going to the infirmary to change his bandages - he would understand Arturo as a 'threat' to the group (specifically Eden, who he would feel connected to) and feel this is his true chance at 'redemption' - he has to kill Arturo to protect everyone. And so he creates the plan for Arturo rather than for Arei - only, it was supposed to have an accomplice who would help him out since he didn't intend to get away with the muder anyway - Arei. He wanted Arei to be the one to help him with the plan since she swore to protect Eden from Arturo and so he sent her the note for the meetup knowing she wouldn't agree otherwise - and it worked. Arei came, and Levi asked her about the plan - and Arei was faced with a decision: Protect herself at the cost of anothers life, even if it is someone who she doesn't like - or say no. Even if it endangered her. She knows he's a killer so it would be incredibly dangerous to tempt fate - and she should really just say yes and go get help right? She should but... Arei's sick of that! She's sick of compromising others wellbeing for her own benefit, she's tired of going behind people's backs, she's tired of having to put up with bad, manipulative people who want to hurt others! And so she calls him out on bs - all of it. She reveals that she has his secret and berates him for going about his 'redemption' like this - because it's not redemption - it's not reconnection - it's not healing - it's seflish catharsis because you refuse to process your own feelings. And that's wrong. But... Even if Arei did choose this - it still resulted in her murder. Because Levi believed it was pointless to even try - so how dare this girl, this girl who was just as bad, who had been nothing but cruel - how dare she of all people tell him to become a better person. How dare she... She doesn't know anything about his struggles. She doesn't know anything. She doesn't...
but I really don't enjoy looking at things through those lens. They're important for sure, but it's not my strong suit & it's more important to me why things are happening than how they actually do. I also believe this somewhat parallels Mondo & Chihiro's case since it had a somewhat similar premise of a faux murderer becoming a real murderer because he couldn't process his own feelings and it became too much when somebody who chose to change admitted that they were able to do what he - someone who should be strong - could not do. This is an excellent story in my opinion and I've enjoyed it very much. Regardless of whether or not it does end this way, I'll relish the narrative told. I find every aspect so filled with love and I really do believe that the dev is a splendid writer. Every character matters and that's not a false statement - everybody influences the hearts of the others, whether directly or not, little by little. That's transcendent to me - it's so beautiful. Thank for reading this if you did - frankly I've been working on it for a few months haha. Since the progress bar is back I figured I should finish it up before the chapter fully came out and this was invitably dated. I look forward to writing more about this series in the future and now that I've moved past this I can work on the individual character analyses. I'll likely do another one of these before each trial of the series and I'll update the analyses as I go - hopefully those are enjoyable as well. Please watch Danganronpa: Despair Time - it is immaculate. 🧟‍♀️
