Like-like headcanon: Masaru still thinks liking girls is icky and he's not yet aware that boys can like boys. Jataro believes that cooties are real and the grossest cooties are his own. Kotoko is clearly enthusiastic about girls but will have to really sort some stuff out as she gets older. Nagisa was never the type to think that like-liking someone is gross - he's always wanted to get married. Monaca sees the human heart as just another instrument she can play ... but she'll mellow out if given enough time and care, and then, who knows?

Gender headcanon: Masaru is the boyest boy to ever boy ... which is what I tried to be and look how I turned out lmao. Jataro is cis, but his takes on gender are so galaxy-brained that you wouldn't believe he's not on Tumblr. Kotoko will adopt more androgynous affects over time, exploring cuteness outside of traditional femininity. Nagisa can go on for a long time about his view of his own gender, but if asked to summarize, he'd say he doesn't have one. With little to go on besides my own intuition, I'm surprisingly confident that Monaca is a trans boy.

One ship I have with them: Eh, kinda weird to ship them with anyone since they're little kids. Even Kotoko, who at one point in her boss battle declares that she wants to have children with Monaca, probably doesn't like her as much by the end of UDG. Same with Nagisa, poor guy ... but they've all still got each other.

One BroTP I have with them: Gonna use this section to declare which DR teen they'd get along with (note: I haven't played much of DRS). Masaru would be thrilled by Kazuichi, a neon-haired, shark-toothed, funny-voiced goblin man who builds robots, and Kazuichi would rather embarrassingly treasure the validation from a pretty cool kid. Angie would love love love Jataro, though anyone who knows her will make sure someone else supervises them so that arts-n-crafts playtime doesn't become Baby's Second Cult. I think Sayaka and Kotoko would have a lot that they can talk about together, and I believe she'd do everything she can to nurture and protect the kid. Nekomaru and Akane would be a refreshing pair for Nagisa: they'd focus on training his body rather than his mind, but in a way that's actually healthy and clearly caring. Monaca should probably be kept away from most people for now, but Hajime is uniquely suited to be friendly with her ... so they can wax about Nagito's weirdness together.

One NoTP I have with them: I guess anyone? Since, again, they're little kids?

Random headcanon: When Masaru goes on long walks, he looks for long sticks to carry and will exchange them for even bigger ones he finds along the way. Jataro's reading comprehension is poor, but he can already do basic algebra. Kotoko's never felt safer on a film set than when she played a creepy kid in an R-rated horror movie. Nagisa can take catnaps on command for the same reason soldiers do: they never know when their next chance to catch some sleep could be. Monaca may be the rare person who would become a kinder and gentler human being by joining a school theater program.

General opinion: Suitably creepy in their roles as antagonists to Komaru and Toko, crushingly sympathetic in their motivations, and really fun on their own. The Warriors of Hope are just one reason why I'd urge people to try Ultra Despair Girls, even with all the game's faults (especially the ones related to the WoH themselves). It's incredible that Kotoko can be my favorite for her winning personality despite how tastelessly the writers treat her. Jataro also has one of my favorite character voices in Danganronpa, not referring to the vocal performance (which is great!), but to his almost Dadaist dialogue. Ah, I like 'em all!

yes, Sayaka really is that Nice in a non-despair AU. part of it is idol training, certainly, but despite her paranoia over her Dream and willingness to cut down her rivals (just girl things, really), she is a true and genuine friend if she doesn't see you as a threat. and she doesn't see most people at HPA as a threat. now, that doesn't mean being Nice is easy for her, but she chooses to be, even when her first thought/instinct is shitty. this is what makes her an idol: the choice to be kind, not the ease of it

the first to wake up after the NWP: Imposter, who was instrumental in pulling everyone else out and helping them get their bearings. the last: Peko and Nagito, who both wanted to stay dead. (even then, Nagito was easier to convince, because at his core he's prideful. Peko was very much Done with her life)

Miu loves stand-up comedy, though she's been banned from numerous venues for heckling, so it's mostly just Netflix specials now (she still Heckles)

if Kyoko could have a pet, it'd be a pet snake. not a Sexy Sultry Symbolic snake, mind you, but a tsuchinoko: wider than it is long, stubby, and stupid-looking. she'd love the fuck out of that Thing, and absolutely view it and herself as seductive

for the moments that Sakura considered killing someone during DR1, she wanted someone easy but who was still an honorable target. she never was able to pick someone before her time ran out, but she eliminated prospects from her mind easily: Chihiro was too weak, Hina would be dishonorable (and she loved her), "Junko" had the figure of a fighter and Sakura had a feeling she'd be difficult to take down...etc, etc

Danganronpa trans things✨🏳️‍⚧️

Just a series of headcanon’s based on the characters I’ve decided are trans from this game. All the characters I headcanon as some form of genderqueer and what the specific headcanon is, is listed here

Hina walked in on Byakuya trying on a skirt one time. Byakuya yelled at her to get out and threatened her to keep her mouth shut. To their surprise though, she was really chill about it and asked if they wanted to borrow any of her skirts or dresses and even asked if they wanted her to do their makeup or anything like that. Byakuya came out to her that day and while Hina didn’t fully understand due to a lack of knowledge on the non-binary community, she was still supportive and came out in turn as a trans girl

Gundham wears trans tape and Kazuichi wears brightly coloured neon binders. Fuyuhiko wears plain black binders and generally doesn’t bind safely, Peko having to talk him into being more careful

Peko and Fuyuhiko chose each others new names

On bad dysphoria days, Taka will do everything in his power to make Mondo feel better and affirmed in his gender identity. This usually involves him telling Mondo how strong he thinks he is or complimenting him on his muscles or jawline etc. At first, bad dysphoria days were hard to spot but the longer they are together for, the easier it becomes for Taka to spot the warning signs and he will go into full on supportive boyfriend mode

Sonia gets so excited when she finds out that Gundham is also trans or, as he put it, “like you, this vessel I inhabit is not reflective of my true character and soul.”

Kokichi loves wearing skirts because A, they’re fun and swishy. And B, it pisses transphobes off that he can be ftm and still dress femme and he thinks annoying bigots is funny. While Shuichi doesn’t fully understand as he’s also trans ftm and gets really dysphoric in traditionally femme clothes, he’s still super supportive of how Kokichi presents himself and they always stick up for each other if anyone tries to make any comments

When Kaede and Shuichi came out to each other as bi and trans, it was literally just the pointing Spider-Man meme

Bakugo Katsuki - spikey egg. Angry and lashes out to escape dysphoria. Apologetic as hell when she comes out to people.

Makoto Naegi - gentle and kind trans girl before and after, develops a spine after transitioning.

Kazuichi Soda - disaster bisexual trans girl. A mess on legs. Definitely some kind of neurodivergent. Works on cars while in a skirt, doesn't understand the problem no matter how many times her friends explain it.

Makoto Niijima - came out to her family young and her dad didn't approve (pig, after all). With dad out of the picture, Sae made sure to get her sister HRT as soon as possible.

I headcanon that Kazuichi's favorite Disney princess is Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Kaz watched The Little Mermaid as a kid and secretly wanted to be Ariel. Her wish came true when she dyed her hair red, learned how to layer it better, and then pushed herself to get the costume. At the time she couldn't muster the same courage to leave the house in the costume, but it was a big step for her. When she saw her red hair in the mirror or at her shoulders that night she felt great.
