I was super curious cuz I saw one of yr fankids was of Yasuhiro and Toko! I wanted to ask how you imagined their relationship to be like and how they became parents!
So glad u asked aahhh my wife and I have been talking ab them quite a bit!! I wanna start this by saying it's not particularly positive. The two of them have a bit of a hate/love relationship. They're not married, not even officially a couple. You might've noticed Hotaru's lastname is Toko's and that's because by all means Toko is a single mother. Hiro comes around often to pass time with his child, and he loves Hotaru a lotttt. Him and Toko go from passing weeks as a married couple home and domestic living to fighting for months and only seeing each other when Hiro comes to hang out with Hotaru. I think both of them do want to be an actual couple but with Toko's insecurities and jealousy and Hiro's hate of commitment, it's just never the right time.

Hellloooo! Do your sakura and makoto fankids have any relationship with their moms dojo? Is the dojo even still around?
Hello!! Yes, they both do! I think Renga always felt a little anxious about being the next potential dojo master because she's not nearly as into it as her mother is. She loves it, of course, but she has other dreams for the future that have nothing to do with the dojo. Of course she hasn't told her mom that yet out of fear she'll be a disappointment but I think Sakura can tell. She wants Renga to confess that to her in her own time though but she tries to put as little pressure as possible into her daughter regarding the dojo. Luckily, even tho she's small, Maika is very excited about training in the future and getting strong like her momma! When she gets older she'll indeed be a great, strong fighter and inherit the dojo.

for the fankid asks: how’s isao’s relationship with his parents? he looks super cool, i really wanna know more abt him!!
Isao was a poor orphan stealing money and jewelry from people before he met his parents. One day, the eleven year old boy stole something from THE Mondo Owada, but of course, he didn't manage to run away this time. He was swiftly caught and reprimanded for his little crime, and instead of begging, he tried to fight Mondo with a pocket knife and an empty stomach. Of course, he lost, but his drive and determination did interest Mondo quite a bit, so he took the kid to his office to get to know why he was thieving around town with old dirty rags on, that barely seemed like clothes. The boy told him that he was an orphan, and he had no one around him to take care of him. His sad little face did warm Mondo's heart, and he brought the big back home to his wife, who was so surprised. It wasn't a bad surprise, though. She got him some food, and they discussed what would happen with Isao after that night. They decided to take care of him, of course. He's been living with them for four years now. He started middle school even though he didn't have the basis for elementary yet. Chihiro stood by him over the summer to teach him all of the basics, and the boy was more and more eager to learn new things! He was good enough that he didn't fail any year and kept studying with excitement, finding a particular interest in technology like his mother. He loves both of his parents so much. They help him with learning, and they buy him nice things and protect him. They sit on his bed with him when he wakes up from nightmares. They've shown him what love is, and there's no gift better than that.

What are the fankids relationships to each other? And next gen next gen ideas lol
I imagine the Ultimates stay good friends even after high school is over, so some of their kids are besties. Sakura and Aoi, for example, obviously raise their children up as best friends. Indeed, Remga and Byakudan are childhood besties. She would get into fights to defend him, and he would help her with school. They stayed extremely close throughout all of their lives. Byakudan has a crush on her, and he's had one foreverrrr, but he thinks it's a lost case since he's such a loser compared to her cool and popular self. Renga was also friends with Hotaru, though they were close when they were young (from 5 to 10). I imagine they met one of the rare few times Toko would join group reunions and were immediately very close. Hotaru comes off as quiet but has a very straightforward personality and has been like that since they were a child, which Renga greatly appreciates. When they were 10, I imagine Toko moved away from the group, and as kicj as they tried to stay in contact, they couldn't. Nowadays, it's a little awkward when they see each other. Hotaru feels like Renga could've done more to retain their friendship, and Renga feels guilty for not reaching out enough. Since Byakudan is Renga's best friend, Hotaru doesn't like him either, though there's some hints of jealousy there. Isao is the one who's the least close with them since he wasn't a childhood friend of theirs. He was adopted at 12, so he entered the group late. His relationship with Renga and Byakudan is friendly! Not super besties, but still very good. Him and Hotaru, though, hit it off immediately. Isao is a curious young guy who came from poverty and didn't even do school before getting adopted, and Hotaru is a super intelligent librarian whose knowledge is soooo interesting and fun. As about the other two, Bizen hates all of his older brother's loser friends because if they're hanging out with him, that means they can't possibly be worth anything. Him and Renga have butted heads quite a bit, but Byakudan has had to stop any possible physical alterations between the two. It's exhausting,,, As for Maika, everyone likes the baby! Even Bizen likes her. He's always wanted a little sister, sigh,,,

Do you have any more trans danganronpa headcanons pls? For the poor? For the needy? uwu
Absolutely!!! Perfect timing, lmao, I just wanted to start sketching some of my tgirl headcanons. From the first game, I would say an obvious one is Chihiro. I know it's a taboo in the fandom to hc her as a trans girl, but I think realistically speaking, it just makes sense. Imagine you're a closeted, passing trans girl, locked in a murder game, constantly misgendered by being forced into male lockers and male bathrooms. Imagine you get threatened with someone revealing your secret, and you live in a country like Japan where being trans just isn't common and is still very frowned upon, and trans people get sterilized after SRS. It would break anyone lol, so I wouldn't be surprised if she felt the need to detrans for safety. It's realistic and it's sad enough. I think her dad knew, and he was supportive, but she was scared to have anyone else know at all. As much as we can hc danganronpa characters as extremely accepting and cool, it's worth mentioning this is still 2010s Japan.
In the second game, I hc Mahiru as trans before the game. I think her complex relationship with femininity and womanhood is very interesting from the lens of a trans woman. She's a trans girl who was extremely close to her mother and not at all to her father, like a lot of tgirls, and she feels like she has to uphold a standard of gender for the sake of validity. I also hc Kazuichi as a tgirl but I think she hasn't come to terms with it yet. I think she doesn't even like Sonia as a crush, but moreso as a "goal". I mean, think about it. What's more feminine than princesses? I do also ship Mahiru and Kazuichi so I think they help each other out. Mahiru helps her gf pick out clothes, style her hair, put on makeup, act more girly. They help each other with tge E shots hehe.
As for DR3, I haven't finished it just yet, but I already have 3 trans headcanons (ig the despair mfs know that transsexuals make good TV). As of right now, it's Shuichi, who's such an obvious trans boy. He's my only tboy hc at the moment, too, hm. I think everything from his japanese voice to his way of dressing up to him wearing a hat to hide his features gives very tboy. Then Kokichi. Idk she gives mean doll to me. You know the super instigating dolls that love fights? That. And the last one is Korekiyo, but I still have to think about that one because as aforementioned, I haven't finished the game yet, so I don't know enough about Korekiyo to know if this hc will survive. I think her obsession with the occult is very trans coded, what with transnes and feeling unnatural in society. Something something transness is divinity.
I haven't watched Despai Girls yet so I don't have any hcs for those characters ToT but I hope you like these ones!!!

why is there a big gap between renga and maika?
The answer is pretty simple for this! Maika wasn't really planned. Sakura found out she was pregnant with her about four months in lol (super muscular women tend not to show pregnancy wise till the last month pretty much). Of course, she was the best little accident ever for them, with her chubby cheeks and big eyes!! Renga was pretty miffed at first because she hated sharing the baby status with an actual baby, but when she saw her, all that anger went away, and they're best friends now. She couldn't be angry at her baby sisterrrr♡

Loving the fankid tips! Question, how do you make sure primary kid characters can have a fleshed-out emotional development without falling into the very stereotypical/overplayed Hollywood (like in every revival of an old franchise ever)? I know often it's less about the basic concept and more development and execution sometimes but I'm stuck from there.
For starters, I think you should assign your characters a bad trait that's important to your story. And I don't mean a positive that can become negative like "too kind" or "too perfect" like so many people do. I mean a true negative. I'll take one of my fan kids, for example: Bizen. Bizen is excessively jealous to the point of anger. He's so obsessed with being an Ultimate that it makes him resent his older brother, who's an ultimate by simply being born as the most Affluent Progeny. That jealousy separates into other smaller aspects of negative emotions: anger, hate, apathy, and envy. Sometimes negative emotions can affect actions that are considered positive, like being hardworking becomes an exhausting, perfectionist action, or being nice becomes manipulative for the sake of reaching something. Don't be scared of negative emotions and traits. I think a lot of characters seem to fall flat because they need to be positive at all times.
Another trait that isn't considered as important, but I think is truly necessary to make your character well rounded, is to make sure your characters are timeless. Don't tie them to modern-day humor or actions. They should be able to retain all their personality even in a world without social media or the internet. Your character in a modern setting and the same character in a medieval setting should retain mostly the same personality traits.
The very last thing is to be mindful of the setting of your story. Japan is a little different from America even when it comes to teens. Yes, it being a danganronpa setting gives us more freedom like colored hair and eyes, but even in the game, the kids have a very japanese teen sense of humor and action. For this, I recommend just paying attention to the way the danganronpa characters act and talk, and it'll give you a good idea of what their children should act like too!

Any tips on developing a fankid and their relationship with their parents? Or just silly questions to develop them personality wise in general?
Yes!! Character development is my favorite thing everrrr. So in this case it's about danganronpa fan kids I'm guessing which is a particularly strange scenario. First question would obviously be a general one of "Are the children in a canon compliant universe or in a peaceful one that allows all characters to live happily?" For most fan kids it's the second one, which is great as it gives a lot of creative freedom with the relationships between both the Canon characters with each other and the Canon characters with your fan children.
After you've decided the universe you decide the pairings. Before moving onto the children we have to think about the parents and their relationship with each other. Some easy questions to start us off would be if the parents are married. If not, then you can deepen it by asking why they aren't married. You can continue by asking yourself if the children were a quick one night stand scenario or if they were planned between friends. Some couples stay together even though they aren't married and Some families have more that two parents present so that's a personal choice on your own universe and there's no right or wrong was to do it.
Then you can move on to the children. Firstly, their relationship with their parents. How old were the parents when they had them? Do they live with both parents? If not, which one do they live with (or live with most if it's a shared custody scenario)? If they have stepparents, how close are they to their step parents? Are any of their parents dead?
Then, you can move on to sibling relationships. Do they have siblings? Do they have step siblings or half siblings? Which sibling are they the closest to? (A repetition of the parent questions, pretty much!) Think of day ti day relationships between people. Siblings tend to share at least 1 interest with each other, so maybe they could have something that unites them even if they're not so close. It can be something super particular, too, like a specific song or a specific date even.
Afterwards, it's mostly the usual character building questions, and there's quite a lot of templates with many interesting questions on pinterest or tumblr. The one thing I'll say is don't feel like your kid HAS to be an ultimate. It's fine if they're just normal even though their parents are ultimates. Not everyone is an ultimate at something in real life, so it's more realistic to have more kids that don't excel in everything they do.
I also recommend building on the parents' relationships with their friends in this universe, which could lead to friendships between kids yk. For example, if one of your main parents is Makoto, how's his relationship with the rest of the classmates that he doesn't have children with going? If there's anyone particularly close to him as a friend maybe his children and their children could be friends too, or maybe enemies whove been forced to be around each other all like long because their parents are friends, lol! So many cool possibilities!
