Just realized the whiplash the THH cast is gonna have in my 48 character fangan.

Compared to the sequels, the cast of THH is very tame. Their most outlandish moments in their trials usually had to deal with Genocide Jill or maybe Junko, and neither of those two hold a candle to the shenanigans of the trials in SDR2 or V3.

And since everyone's got their memories (mostly) from their respective killing game, this Ultimate Killing Game will be a doozy.

Just picture Nagito going on one of his hope rants, with his signature despair filled eyes and his maniacal laughs. No one from SDR2 (sans Twogami) even blinks. The survivors from THH aren't phased either, they've heard of his antics in Towa City. The rest of the group is losing their shit. Even Kokichi is like "WTF, I thought that was my shtick."

In another instance, Kokichi's in his villain arc, and his face darkly distorts into something inhuman as he's rambling about truth and lies. Everyone from V3 is just like "This again? 😑" while the THH cast is actively searching for Holy Water to douse him in (nothing would surprise the SDR2 cast, but a few like Mikan, Mahiru, Chiaki, Sonia, and definitely Kazuichi are a bit creeped out).

Meanwhile, Toko outs herself as Genocide Jill. Sayaka, Leon, and Chihiro are the only ones shivering in fear. Someone from the SDR2 table says "Mass murder? Been there, done that". Kokichi brags that Kiyo and Maki could take Toko in a fight and starts wagering bets. Celeste is tempted.

A brief history of new Danganronpa games being teased/suggested/hinted at by Spike Chunsoft and/or Kodaka (but not actually happening yet)

Mid 2017: Series creator/lead scenario writer Kazutaka Kodaka says that if the franchise continues after the release of Danganronpa V3, he'd like to see a Danganronpa fighting game.

Late 2017: Spike Chunsoft puts out a job listing for game designer to work in "character modeling" and "texture creation," specifying that the successful hire will "mainly participate [in the development of] Danganronpa." Since then, no new Dangnaronpa games with 3D characters have been released or announced.

2019 Side Note: Another job listing for a "User Interface designer" goes up, specifying that applicants "must like the Danganronpa series." However, it seems likely this was part of the development of "Danganronpa S."

Late 2021: In the lead-up to the release of "Danganronpa S," Spike Chunsoft issues an announcement celebrating the fact that the franchise has now sold 5 million copies worldwide. They end with the statement "Spike Chunsoft looks forward to further expanding the Danganronpa franchise with games in various genres."

Early 2022: In a Spanish interview, Kodaka says that he's interested in remaking the DR games in full 3D to "revive" the series, indicating he "might change the plots a bit" if they do so.

Disclaimer‼️ I am not a professional designer in anyway. These are just my opinions and if you like the original designs that is a-okay and more power to you!

So I found out about the Hundred Line Defense Academy from a repost tweet and checked it out only to find that most of the designs are alright… well except for two. Two of the designs we’ve seen so far were either so bad or so awkward that I felt the urge to redesign them complete with design comments.

Darumi’s original design is the one I actually outright hate. There’s just too much going on (the blue hair that awkwardly goes from black to blue at the top, the bows, the weird face tattoos, the striped sweater with bright red patches randomly thrown on, and the random pins??)

Plus the colors are just an eye sore (bright light blue, bright pink for the eyes, dark blue for the sweater, and strong red for chocked and patches????)

She also gives me vibes of being made in a test tube to be the fan favorite

Not only that but we have only seen two lines of dialogue from her we’ve seen (as of making this post) are just like- groan worthy

I went with the black with bright colors to try and make the whole “bright” colors thing work without making it as much of an eyesore

Anyways I feel like I strayed too far from the original in my redesign. I could’ve stuck to the blue color scheme a bit more instead of making her mostly black and pink. Oh well, it is what it is. I at least improved the colors a bit and still made the design fit her personality which is what matters

Kako’s original design is better to me than Darumi’s. It’s more awkward that outright bad

Again, the colors are a bit weird, but unlike Darumi’s original colors, the original colors could work. Light lilac, crimson red, navy, and white could work. The problem is the placing. By making Kako’s hair light lilac and uniform crimson red, that makes her mostly liliac and red which classes a lot. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the red uniform because it stands out so much instead of her face

However, unlike Darumi, another complaint I have is that Kako just looks like two Danganronpa characters smashed together (which is a fair complaint in my opinion because Kodaka made Kako AND Danganronpa and it’s in the same art style). She has a light lilac hair and purple eyes, which makes her look like Kyoko Kirigiri and a VERY similar outfit to Maki Harukawa (there’s a few differences like how Maki has a white bow with tiny red dots, a striped collar, and infinity pin and how Kako’s uniform is a dress and Maki’s is a shirt and skirt). Like at the very least they could have changed the uniform colors and eye colors

It took me until finishing Kako’s ref up to realize this, but the mini buns and extra strands of hair could work because they are kinda similar to Sailor Moon, and I dig her design. Though Kako’s hair is still off to me despite that for a reason I can’t pin down

Anyways I ended up making my redesign closer to her original design because her original design wasn’t as bad as Darumi’s and because I felt like I needed to balance things out since I made Darumi too far from the original I think

Alright that’s all I got commentary wise. Here’s some work in progress stuff for outfits that I ended up not going with

If we ever do get a new Danganronpa game do you think it won’t involve junko (even in v3 she she was involved)

I just want to have a moment where I can actually say the wicked witch is dead and not have to eat my words

I think it kind of depends on how much Kodaka is involved in the new game in question. The more involved he is, the more inescapable some form of Junko Return becomes, IMO. He's admitted before that Junko became so unexpectedly popular so quickly in the wake of DR1 that he felt like he could never create any mastermind to surpass her or even rival her, which he claims is a big reason DR2 ends as it does. (Although he hasn't spoken about this since the release V3, I have to assume that same logic is at play regarding V3's ending.)

Then again, maybe some time away from the series will refresh his mind and give him motivation/desire to finally escape her clutches. Or alternatively, I believe a new lead writer would feel more comfortable with (and more of a pressing desire for) completely leaving her in the past.

Technical work in progress because I have one other design I wanna redo from what little we’ve seen of Hundred Line (other designs look FINE to me it was just Darumi’s and Kako’s that looked especially bad to me.)

But yea expect a post soon with a Kako Tsukumo redesign too and redesign notes.

Also yes this is a Darumi redesign. I strayed too far from the og a bit, but eh I think the core personality/vibe is still there and that is all that matters (also the colors don’t make your eye bleed)
