Parker Molloy at The Present Age:
It’s not every day that a political figure openly admits to fabricating stories to get media attention. But that’s precisely what Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance did during a Sunday appearance on CNN’s State of the Union. Vance acknowledged that he “create[d] stories” about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, supposedly stealing and eating people’s pets. “If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do,” Vance said. This isn’t just reckless political theater. It’s a dangerous tactic that bears the hallmarks of fascist propaganda. Vance isn’t simply stretching the truth or engaging in hyperbole to score points with voters. He’s admitting, proudly, that he’s willing to lie in ways that actively harm immigrant communities and incite fear and violence. And we’ve seen the effects already. Since Vance’s story began circulating, Springfield has become ground zero for a wave of hate-fueled chaos. Bomb threats have been called into local schools, city hall, and hospitals, and the Ku Klux Klan is reportedly distributing flyers demanding that immigrants leave town. [...]
But here’s the thing: it doesn’t matter that Vance’s claims were quickly debunked. Springfield’s police department confirmed that there have been zero reports of pets being stolen or eaten. It doesn’t matter. The lie is already out there, and it’s doing its intended damage. This is a textbook example of how misinformation spreads and leads to real-world harm. Vance’s fabrication is part of a broader pattern of right-wing politicians using misinformation as a political weapon. Just two years ago, Republicans were circulating the bizarre, completely false claim that schools were installing litter boxes in bathrooms for students who identified as cats. That lie, too, spread like wildfire, despite being thoroughly debunked. These kinds of stories aren’t just silly or outlandish — they’re dangerous. They target specific communities, stoke fear and hatred, and lead to real-world violence. As we saw with the false claims about trans youth being subjected to surgeries without parental consent, these lies serve a political purpose, even after they’ve been debunked. They plant seeds of doubt, stir up fear, and shift the conversation away from real issues.
Appearing on CNN’s State Of The Union and NBC’s Meet The Press today, Trump VP pick and Ohio Senator JD Vance admitted that he created fake stories such as the Springfield Cat-Eating Hoax just “to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people.”
This clown is unfit to be the nation’s No. #2 in charge (aka 101st Senator).

Asked about global silence on Hamas sexual violence against Israeli women, US Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal responds by discussing Israeli actions in Gaza, and says that outrage must be “balanced.”
In an appearance on CNN, Jayapal is asked by anchor Dana Bash about the lack of response to the growing evidence of such allegations. The progressive member of Congress says she has “condemned what Hamas has done… but I think we have to remember” that Israel must “comply with international humanitarian law… morally we cannot say that one war crime deserves another.”
Bash pushes back, saying her question was about Hamas rape and sexual assault, “and you turned it back to Israel.”
“I think that rape is horrific, sexual assault is horrific, I think it happens in war situations,” replies Jayapal. “However I think we have to be balanced about bringing in the outrages against Palestinians, 15,000 Palestinians have been killed.”

CNN didn’t do their job tonight. You are reporters and journalists(that’s you fucking job, Jake/Dana); you fact check for a living. Fact Check the lying motherfucker to his face. You do not let a candidate either one blatantly lie…known lies. Shame.

Russel Vought is a former Trump cabinet member AND a co-author of Project 2025 which is sort of a MAGA Mein Kampf.
Trump, a congenital liar, has denied any connection to Project 2025. But the vast majority of contributors to the Project are people with political connections to Trump or former members of his administration.
Vought is the most high profile person connected to the Project. He was secretly filmed by British climate activists and told them that Trump's denial of a connection to Project 2025 was just window dressing for public consumption.
The more that people hear about Project 2025, the more they hate it. So share the video above which shows a Trump former cabinet member bragging of Weird Donald's connection: "He's very supportive of what we do."
Project 2025 is a blueprint for a Christian nationalist dictatorship to hit the ground running on Day One. It is a flow chart to Gilead.

Dana Bash is the Drew Barrymore of journalism, so this first interview makes sense. Expect lots of slobbering and softball questions for Kamala and Tim.

Thursday, August 29, 2024 - Kamala Harris and Tim Walz
Today Vice President Harris departed Washington, D.C. for Savannah, GA. She met Governor Walz first thing in the morning. They met with CNN's Dana Bash for an interview that will air tonight. Video of the interview may be shared depending on its availability.
They finished the day holding a campaign rally at Enmarket Arena. Georgia is viewed as a key state by the Harris-Walz campaign as we are hoping to maintain the state on our electoral map.
Tomorrow, Vice President Harris is off to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands and Governor Walz will return to the Midwest to spend his Friday in the state of Nebraska—the home state!

"Both as journalists and as people charged with helping voters make informed choices, it was very important for Bash and Tapper to be prepared to rebut and contextualize Trump’s bombast and dishonesty. Low-information voters deserve to know when candidates are saying things that just flat-out aren’t true, and the moderators are the only people with the power and the opportunity to call these things out in a way that comes across as informative rather than accusatory. It wouldn’t have even been hard to do. Trump has like six standard riffs that he repeats over and over, and CNN could have easily predicted some of the things he was going to say, and could have been prepared with facts and footage to rebut him. They could and should have done the same for Biden, too. Thursday’s debate only deepened my convictions here. I forcefully disagree with the school of thought that says that the job of the moderators is just to keep the debate moving, and that the moderators shouldn’t inject themselves into the substance of the debate. If that’s the case, then why bother having journalists moderate the debate at all? If all that the moderators are going to do is to read questions and keep time, then you might as well just select the moderators by lottery, or have fourth-graders read the questions, or have beloved cartoon characters moderate in a Who Framed Roger Rabbit?–style setup. Why have Jake Tapper and Dana Bash up there at all?"
This, very much this. Biden didn't do himself any favors in the debate, but his wasn't the only (or frankly, biggest) failure on that stage. Journalists aren't supposed to tell us what politicians want us to hear, they're supposed to tell us the truth, and Tapper and Bash failed at that this last week.

Kayla Gogarty at MMFA:
In their discussion after Vice President Kamala Harris’ October 23 CNN town hall, the network’s anchors admitted but then dismissed — that mainstream media are holding Harris to a “different standard” than her Republican opponent Donald Trump. Trump and Harris held one debate on September 11, after which Trump refused further debates. Due to this, CNN invited both Harris and Trump to participate in individual town hall events, an invitation Harris accepted but Trump declined. On October 23, Harris participated in a CNN town hall with undecided Pennsylvania voters. Following Harris' town hall, CNN anchors engaged in what journalist Aaron Rupar called “theater criticism” of Harris' performance without even acknowledging that Trump refused to even show up to take questions from voters until roughly 10 minutes into their post-event discussion. While a focus group CNN gathered overall had positive reactions, CNN immediately criticized Harris’ performance, even admitting — and dismissing — that they are holding Harris to a “different standard” and “it's inherently unfair.”
CNN’s post-Kamala Harris town hall coverage was the same old bothsiderism.

Mismatch of the Century - 05/15/2024
Joe Biden versus Donald Trump in a debate on June 27th, I'm looking forward to it. Even though it's on CNN (Communist News Network) with Dana Bash and Jake Tapper hosting, as about as far left you can go. I don't think they expected Trump to immediately say yes, but he has and no matter how they rig it, Trump will wipe the floor with Briben, or Bumden, or Biden that is. I think that's obvious to anyone with a functioning brain. The rules they laid out are heavily in Bumbledin's, or Biden's favor; no audience, turn off Trump's mic while Shmoey is talking, no RFK Jr, and of course two far-left leaning, Briben, or Biden supporting moderators. Trump surprisingly said yes. A second debate was offered by them to take place on September 10th on ABC, with the same rules. Trump then replied back by challenging Bumden, or Biden to another two debates, and have one of them on Fox News with Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier. That seems fair to me. So Bumbledin's team fired back by saying that Trump is playing games. Sounds like kids fighting in a playground. Ridiculous. If there's not going to be an audience, then don't have any moderators and just let them have at it for 1 and-a-half to 2 hours. Maybe at most have a time keeper, but no moderators. I think that would be more fun, but I seriously doubt that would happen. I'd pay $50 to see that on pay-per-view. Hell, I'd pay $100. I am so looking forward to June 27th, go Trump!

Despite credible reports of mass rape of Palestinian captives and numerous documented cases of the Israeli military using Palestinians as human shields, reports of Israel doing so were not mentioned once on any of the Sunday shows. Claims of mass rapes targeting Israelis, however, were mentioned 15 different times, and the term "human shields" was used to describe alleged actions by Palestinians 37 different times.
Antisemitism was mentioned 65 times on the Sunday shows during our survey period, while "Islamophobia" or anti-Muslim/anti-Palestinian racism was only mentioned four times.
To the extent that there was critical reporting or interviewing, it was over excesses and execution. There was no mention in any of the shows of the thousands of Palestinian hostages being held by Israel, no mention of apartheid, no mention of the widespread sexual abuse of Palestinian detainees, no discussion of the siege, repeated bombings, and a policy of starvation waged against Gaza pre–October 7. There was simply a "brutal" "massacre" and "slaughter" of Israelis, then a war of "defense," followed by some unfortunate but unavoidable "excess civilian deaths," which were Hamas's fault in any event. Anything that could have complicated this narrative—particularly an interview with a Palestinian—was avoided. Instead, those turning to the Sunday shows to understand events or shape political priorities for the coming week were fed a consistent diet of superficial moralizing, softball interviews with US and Israeli officials, and entirely one-sided empathy and humanization.
Article also points out Dana Bash and Jake Tappers cravenness when interviewing Netanyahu and taking time out to attack Rep Tlaib and spreading falsehoods about her.
