So alle 20 Jahre produziert Cameron Mackintosh eine Sondheim-Revue. Und zwar immer mit Julia McKenzie, die deshalb  für diese letzte, besonders prächtige namens Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends, die halt leider zur Gedenkveranstaltung wurde, nach 20 Jahren erstmals wieder auf einer Bühne steht (das heißt ihr Auftritt in The Philadelphia Story, wo wir sie gesehen haben war wahrscheinlich der letzte), sie wirkt aber recht munter. Einige von Sondheims Alten Freunden sind natürlich inzwischen tatsächlich sehr alt, besonders zu erwähnen ist die 89-jährige Petula Clark, die jetzt wirklich mal befugt ist, I’m Still Here zu singen (sie ist inzwischen 90, haben wir leider verpasst, wäre natürlich ein prima Vorwand gewesen, Finian’s Rainbow anzuschauen...), die unverzichtbare Bernadette und viele, viele Londoner Theaterlegenden, von denen wir einige auch schon auf der Bühne sehen durften (einige sogar in Sondheim-Shows). Damien Bellerose would say that Dillon Carter is one of the people he trusts the most. He thinks Dillon is reliable and a good person to be around. If Damien would point out someone from NRC he trusted, that would be Thomas DeLacey.

Daisuke Hino trusts Quinn Springer. If you were to ask why, Daisuke will say "because Quinn is a good person." He is also willing to do what he can to help Quinn.

Anthony Page trusts his older brother Elise Page the most. After all, his big brother will always be there for him.

Hui Jin Liang trusts his brother Shi Yin Liang the most. He knows that he is someone he can rely on in times of need.

one thing that makes sense about Dan being gossip girl is that you do have be completely sociopathic to fit in the upper echelon. That's why Lily never ended up with Rufus, the foil and parallel to Dan and Serena - despite him being the great love of his life, and being in a rock band in the 90's + having a mainstream one hit wonder residuals + sending your kids to fancy private school + loft in Brooklyn and art gallery, despite what show tries to imply, the Humphreys are upper middle class. But compared to the old money and billionaires of Archibald's and Bass, they can't penetrate; therefore the untouchable golden Van Der Woodsen women can't end up with them. Until Dan is ready to forgo all his connections to his previous life to be fully ingratiated into their circle. It wasn't that Dan being a wealthy successful novelist that makes him enough for Serena — it's that he made his career writing about them. Our antagonists are the envious 'poor,' the Vanessa Abrams and scammer pretending to be cousin Lola, who are all humiliated. When the antagonist is of their class they get away relatively unscathed (which I do think serves as commentary how privilege protects you): drug dealer Damien Dalgaard paid 100k cheque off by Lily to fuck off, Carter Baizen and his playboy ways, the evil Dr. Van Der Woodsen dad ends up with Lily, even Georgina Sparks after she loses status going to jesus camp redeems herself being a bored rich housewife and is even included in their upper east side group in the last season. The most successful interloper is Jenny, when she's at her scheming worst, but when she's at odds with her conscience she is literally banished from New York (and only returning in proximity to Dan entering the circle by marrying Serena. It shows no matter how talented and successful or good you are (Jenny's fashion designer era, Rufus musician, Eva whose whole arc is to 'fix' Chuck) you can never be one of Them until you've given up all of yourself to be ingratiated. Which was Dan's dream as gossip girl, to no longer be Lonely Boy. Gossip Girl is a love story, it's a love story about the aspirations of wealth and belonging to the upper class, at the cost of everything. It's the what if Nick Carraway got to run away with Buchanans in the end.

I was curious and had time on my hands so I decided to count all the times characters in the Riordanverse cursed. I always see people talking about how much Percy definitely cusses a lot since he's a New Yorker, so I wanted to see how he compared to the rest of the cast. I included all mentions of a named character cursing, even if it's just something like “Oh, Styx” if the narrator specifically calls it a curse. This is almost definitely not 100% accurate and was just a fun pastime, please don't judge me if I incorrectly counted the amount of times a character swears 😂
