Quest of Heart's Code: Chapter 1
Tumblr media
UPDATE: going forward, "When Flowers Weep" will go by the name "Quest of Heart's Code". i have changed the direction of the story, and the original name no longer fits. all content will remain the same.
Iris walked through Hogmeade for the first time since summer break, enjoying the rose scented breeze. Wizards and children roamed the streets happily as cats climbed into open windows and napped on the stone staircases. Hogsmeade finally seemed calm, relieved. The end of Rookwood and Harlow’s attack on the public left people jumping for joy. Iris watched as citizens shuffled in and out of the Three Broomsticks doors. It was a busy day, that was for sure. Iris made note of the crowd. She was looking forward to seeing Sirona Ryan again.
Iris felt the breeze pass beside her legs as her school robe flew back a bit with the wind. She turned her head to the left and immediately noticed two familiar faces. Bright smiles and two waves greeted her gaze.
“Nice to see you again, Iris!” Isko Rabe cheerfully spoke whilst hand-in hand with his wife, Daisy. The two looked relieved and well dressed. They seemed so much lighter. The weight of Harlow had been lifted from their shoulders, and released with the wind.
“Glad to see you’re doing well,” Iris responded with smiling lips and eyes. “I’m surprised to see you in Hogsmeade today. Heading back to Gringotts soon?”
Iris remained still as Isko and Daisy approached her closely. She watched as Daisy opened the flap of her brown leather bag, pulling out a small box. Daisy extended her hand out towards Iris, and proceeded to open the velvet square. Inside was a shining gold necklace with four gemstone charms. Each charm was in the shape of a flower. The stones had a hue of pink, but not naturally. Iris could tell the pink was an enchantment cast over the gems.
“I wanted to thank you for everything you did to help Isko, and all of us,” Daisy began. She locked eyes with Iris. Her cheeks sat up and crinkled her eyes a bit. Iris could tell that there was pure sincerity on Daisy’s face, and in her gaze. If it weren’t for that fact, she would have been apprehensive about taking the gift. Iris stretched her hands out and Daisy gently placed the box in her palms.
“It is beautiful,” she spoke as she viewed the box in her hand. “These gemstones
they appear enchanted.”
“Yes,” Daisy spoke as she closed the flap of her bag. “It was crafted with a protection enchantment. I figured having something on hand like that would be useful for someone as brave and adventurous as you.”
Iris smiled and closed the box, holding it tightly in her palms. It was a sweet thing for Isko and Daisy to do. She wasn’t the best when it came to receiving gifts, but she knew they would feel relieved knowing she was protected. After all, she was always getting herself into the most dangerous situations possible.
“You are quite the adventurer,” Isko added, “much like a Gryffindor. Although, the kindness you have shown is surely that of a Hufflepuff.”
Iris let out a bit of a giggle at the idea of being sorted into Gryffindor. Isko had been right though, Iris was certainly the most fearless Hufflepuff around. “Well, thank you for the gift. I appreciate you two looking out for me.”
“Of course,” Daisy replied as she grabbed Isko’s hand again. The two began to walk once more. “Please, send us an owl if you need anything at all.”

Iris walked through the doors of Madam Snelling’s Tress Emporium. Calliope sat in front of her large mirror waiting for Iris to arrive. Throughout fifth year, Iris had visited Calliope a lot. She had started fifth year with bangs that ended perfectly against her eyebrows. But as one could imagine, it became awfully hard for Iris to see anything during fights whilst they were grown out. Iris would visit at least thrice a month, simply for a trim. Iris’s deep brown bangs had grown out enough for them to cascade beside her face, as opposed to in her eyes. Her hair had also been lightened over her vacation.
“Iris, dear!” Calliope spoke as she stood from her chair. Iris approached and Calliope spun the chair towards her. “Come, dear, sit!”
Iris plopped down into the chair and Calliope immediately began twirling her strands around with two hands. She could tell Calliope was studying the work done to them. Iris’s mother, Nora, was a perfumer and hairdresser for the Muggles. Nora had asked her if she could try a new lightening technique on her cool, dark locks. And of course, she agreed to satisfy her mother. She was left with strands of shimmering blonde, all throughout her head, separated with natural pieces of brunette.
“This work
it’s phenomenal,” Calliope spoke as she began to take a brush to the ends. Light reflected off of the lightened pieces as if they had been coated in glitter. “I have only seen something like this once, when I was perfecting my craft. This is something I’ve only seen one particular woman do.”
Iris raised an eyebrow, nervously shifting in her chair. She let out a faint hum before words came from her mouth. “Well, actually
”
Calliope pulled the brush away quickly with a gasp. Iris jumped a bit as Calliope moved backwards swiftly. She stared at Calliope in the mirror, who now had eyes as bright as a candle flame. “You’re Nora Ozburry’s, aren’t you? My goodness, how did I not realize it sooner?!”
The idea that a witch would know Iris’s mother shocked her a bit. Calliope had used magic in her craft when styling, but Nora lacked any magical ability. Nora simply studied hair and came to understand it. Calliope, on the contrary, had a witching upper hand. Iris turned in her chair to look at Calliope’s face directly, instead of through the forward mirror.
“How do you know her?” Iris asked softly. “My mother, I mean.”
“I studied alongside Nora when I went to learn more about hair styling from the Muggles. They know a lot of things about the craft that wizards certainly do not. Magic is great, but knowledge lies beyond those barriers.”
Calliope took her hands through Iris’s hair yet again, fascinated by the golden pieces. Iris remained quiet as she sat forward in the chair once more. Calliope looked up at her through the mirror before mumbling out, “I hadn’t realized you were a Muggle-born witch.”
With powers like Iris, she knew no one would assume her mother was lacking in abilities. And for most of her life, Nora was hoping Iris would never realize the potential of her magic. The first year at Hogwarts was a complete and utter culture shock for her. Not only did she have the ability to wield magic, she had the ability to wield magic that was unheard of by the general public. In just a few days, she had gone from normal to far from it.
“It’s not something I really discuss around here,” Iris admitted. It wasn’t a completely rare oddity to see a half blood wizard roaming the halls of Hogwarts. However, blood purity was still the most common. It was not initially intentional of Iris to hide her mother’s Muggle status at first. But once she found a corpse lying in a cave with nothing but a note that said “MUDBLOOD” beside it, Iris figured it would be best not to share.
“Not to worry,” Calliope motioned behind her to collect some supplies from the table. Walking towards Iris, she gave her a gentle smile through the mirror. “I will not tell anyone who your mother is, I know how those damned kids can be. Nora was a great friend, and quite the talent.”
“Thank you,” Iris sighed with relief as Calliope began to work through her hair again.
“Now, you must tell me whatever your mother has named this technique.”
“I believe she called them
highlights.”

Deek was passing his broom around the center of the Room of Requirement when Iris came to visit. Deek had spent the entire break keeping her section clean and neat, whilst tending to her beasts. She was excited to see her Thestrals again, especially the newest offspring. She had certainly bonded with the breed over her fifth year.
“Oh!” Deek called out as he turned to see Iris standing in the doorway. She came down to meet him with a smile on her face. “Deek has been anticipating your arrival.”
“My apologies for the wait,” Iris responded. “A short trip to Hogsmeade was in order.”
Iris approached her herbology table and checked on each of her perfectly tended planting pots. Some of her Dittany leaves were almost ready to harvest. Deek approached her and reached out his tiny hand to poke her elbow from behind. As Iris turned around, she noticed his facial expression had changed. He appeared to be far more nervous than he was upon her entry.
“Apologies, Miss Iris,” Deek began. “Deek must tell you, there is another student in your section of the Room of Requirement. Deek is not sure why or how he came in, Deek is too scared to approach him. Deek thinks he looks unwell, and Deek is not sure how to handle this situation.”
Iris stiffened up a bit and crossed her arms over her chest. She began to pace and look around the area. In some way, she felt slightly violated. The Room of Requirement was a safe space for her to keep her beast and study in silence. Not to mention, the room was meant for people in need. The room was supposed to shape itself to fulfill the occupant’s specific need, to be exact. Questions ran through Iris’s head faster than her Graphorn could run. “What could someone else need with this exact room? What if they’re not even students, but pretending to be one? What if they are here for the beasts? What if they hurt Deek?”
“And where exactly is this ‘student’?” Iris asked.
“Just down the corridor,” Deek used a finger to point towards the hallway connected to the center of the room. “Deek saw him sitting to the right side, in a corner. Deek thinks he has some blood on his face.”
The mention of blood sent a wave of uncertainty down her spine. It left her with a chill. Either the wizard was somehow wounded, or they were there to hurt her. Iris moved herself in front of Deek and pulled her wand from the pocket of her robe. She felt her fingers tingle against the end of her wand. She was ready to defend herself, Deek, and the room if she had to.
“What did he look like?” Iris questioned as she began to slowly approach the opening of the hallway. She was contemplating whether or not to use the disillusionment charm as Deek began his response.
“Deek would say he looked
maybe tall, with long legs. Deek thinks he had light brown hair, but Deek also thinks he may have possibly been blonde.”
“Okay,” Iris turned her head backwards to face him. “Anything else?”
Iris needed more than basic clues when it came to identifying the person sitting in the next room, likely waiting for her.
“Yes, yes..” He began. “He did look up at Deek. Deek would say he had eyes like bright, blue marbles. If Deek had to guess, Deek would assume that the boy is vision impaired. The boy did not react to seeing Deek at all.”
Thud.
Iris dropped her wand to the ground and her heart began to race.
“Ominis,” she had thought to herself.
Ominis and Iris’s relationship started out as anything but easy. Their first encounter involved him yelling at her as she tried to sneak out from Undercroft. Every time he saw Iris, he was blunt and frustrated with her. He believed she was enabling Sebastian Sallow’s spiraling behaviors. However, Ominis began to soften around Iris when he realized she was only trying to help. Iris, to her core, was a loyal and true Hufflepuff. Ominis knew that if needed, Iris would have done anything to protect him and Sebastian alike. And it had been true. Iris would have done anything for Ominis Gaunt, despite his pureblood Slytherin lineage and initial distaste for her.
Iris began to bolt down the hallway in search of Ominis. When she had gotten to the end, she turned right and saw him curled in a corner. Deek was correct. His Slytherin robe was less green, and more red. There had been blood beside him on the ground, on his robe, and in his hair. He sat with his head in his knees, curled up. She felt as though she was going to be sick, seeing him in pain. She suddenly felt a weird sensation within herself that she had never felt before, something she could not explain.
“Ominis!” She called out. Slowly, he lifted his head up to look at her. Blood had dripped from his hairline, and stained his face. He looked weak and pale. Iris ran over to him and immediately sat beside him on the floor. She did not care if blood ended up on her robe or her uniform. Ominis had been more important.
“Iris
” He mumbled out. Even his words had seemed weak. “Nice to see you.”
“What happened?” Iris asked with panic-laced words. She grabbed his cheeks with her hand and looked into his watery eyes. As she did so, he shut them in a blink and a tear dropped from the left side. Iris began to shake, her eyes beginning to water. Ominis remained silent. It hurt her deeply to see him in that state. It both saddened and angered her. She wished she could destroy whoever caused him harm.
“Ominis, please
tell me what happened.”
Ominis sniffled a bit before turning his head sideways, away from her hands. She could tell that he did not want her to look at him as tears and blood trickled down his face. His lips curved up into a forced smile, and a staged chuckle came from his lips. “I fell out of a tree. It's no big deal, really.”
“You’re lying to me,” she responded and grabbed his shoulder. The edges of his robe fell away from his chest and it was only then that Iris had realized blood was seeping through his school uniform. She pulled her hands back and sat up straight. “You need Wiggenweld, now.”
“Doesn’t work.”
“What?”
“I tried, but it didn't work.”
Without hesitation, Iris pulled his Slytherin house robe off from his body, undid his tie, and started unbuttoning the layers of his school uniform. Hands covered in blood, she pulled the uniform off and left his bleeding chest exposed. Blood stained his abdominal muscles. He kept his head turned away from her, angled towards the floor. She took a moment to stare at the curvature of his body, and the definition of his muscles underneath his light skin. She felt her face fall into a rose-like blush. She had never seen him so bare before. She had never seen any guy so unclothed in person, in actuality.
She went to stand up, looking for help, when a box suddenly appeared next to them. The box had been carved from wood and stained a warm-toned brown. Quickly, Iris unlatched the box and opened it. Inside was everything she would need to patch up Ominis. It had been a good thing they had been in the Room of Requirement.
She began cleaning his wounds on his chest, on his head, and everywhere else. She silently patched everything up, periodically wiping his blood off of her hands with a rag from the box. She placed a bandage patch over his chest, and her hands trailed down his abdomen. She felt the texture of his skin and muscles underneath her fingertips. He felt incredibly warm to the touch. She took a deep breath in, hands on his skin. She could feel him shudder against his touch, and she heard the sound of his breath change. He let out a deep exhale. He leaned into her touch against his skin, but he wouldn’t turn to face her. She pulled a bottle of Wiggenweld from the box and popped the top open. She placed it into his hand and he took a large swig, facing the other direction.
“Why won’t you look at me?” Iris asked. He grinned and let out a subtle chuckle, turning his head towards her and leaning the back of it against the wall. His eyes were angled towards the ceiling.
“Kind of hard to look at someone when you can’t see,” Ominis teased. Iris felt her cheeks turn red from embarrassment. She hadn’t realized how silly, and possibly offensive, the comment actually was.
“I
I’m sorry, that’s not what I meant.”
Ominis let out another light laugh, enjoying the sound of her falling over her words. At the end of the day, much like Sebastian Sallow, Ominis loved a good tease. The light hit his bare abdomen in such a way that he almost appeared glistening. His hair was a bit wet and he licked his lips before pulling the back of his head off the wall and facing himself directly at her.
“I think it’s kind of funny when you squirm like that.”
Iris let out a shaking breath. She had been squirming. And for reasons unknown to her, she was secretly dying to touch him again. On his chest, his back, his arms. His skin felt warm as a fireplace, soft as a Puffskein. She felt her stomach nervously twist and she wondered if she was going to be sick somehow. She shook her head and pushed her distracting thoughts into the back of her mind. She was determined to get answers from him about the whole ordeal.
“What in Merlin’s beard happened to you?” She asked as she used her hands to pull his light strands of hair away from his face. A few damp strands were fallen, close to poking his eyes with the way they sat. “And how did you even get here?”
“Apparition.”
“..Sorry?”
“Apparition took me here,” He responded, leaning into her hand as she brushed his hair back. His smile dulled and his lips sat neutral once she pulled her hand away. “And quite frankly, I have no idea where I am.”
Iris gathered his robe, tie, and shirts off the floor and began to fold them up into a pile.
“Interesting,” She responded. “But..if you don’t know about the room, how did you end up here?”
Ominis hummed and reached out to grab his blood soaked clothes from her lap. His hands brushed up against the exposed skin just above her knee. Once again, she felt what she could only describe as a tingling sickness. He pulled the clothes into his arms and lightly shrugged. “Don’t know, I wanted to be somewhere safe. I guess that’s how.”
The whole thing started to make sense, in a way. Whatever Ominis had gone through, he was in need of a way out. The room became what he needed. She figured he ended up in her section because he wouldn’t have been able to clean the wounds by himself.
“Are you going to tell me what happened, or are you just going to dodge the question.”
Ominis stood up from his spot against the wall with a gentle, faint grunt of pain. Iris kept her gaze locked onto him as she stood up beside him. She crossed her arms over her chest. She could feel her heart racing against her wrist. “What is wrong with me?”
“Really nice decor in here, by the way,” Ominis said as he pulled his wand out of his back pocket. He ran a hand through his hair and leaned backwards with another faint noise, stretching his back out whilst standing.
“Really???” Iris asked excitedly, only to be humbled by the sound of Ominis’s laughter. He was teasing her again. And although she felt silly, she kind of liked it.
“Yeah, it’s really a wonderful sight.”
“Not funny!”
Iris nudged his arm and he winced a bit.
“Sorry
” She mumbled, and placed a comforting hand onto the spot she had just nudged. He moved his clothes and wand into the hand of the arm she held, while taking his opposing hand and placing it on top of hers. He rubbed the top of her hand gently, as if she were made of glass, and held his hand against hers for a few seconds before he gently slipped away.
“Family matters.”
“Huh?”
“Well you asked me what happened,” Ominis mumbled. “There is your answer.”
Ominis moved his wand back into his dominant hand and used his cast to help him guide through the room. He began to walk down the hall, leaving Iris in the silence of the side room. A knot twisted into her stomach. She knew Ominis was never going to tell her what happened. But based on the cruelty she knew he had endured throughout his life, she could accurately assume. Ominis was getting older, and everyday he began to act less and less like a Gaunt. She knew his family would want him to change and conform with age. But knowing Ominis, he certainly wouldn’t. Iris let out a sigh when she heard footsteps in front of her. Ominis reappeared in the archway.
“Now, how do I get out of here?”

As seen on my FF.net Also seen on my Ao3
Following the events of fifth year, a new adventure awaits for Norah Lee. Boys, exams, school events, common room parties, and old foes outside of Hogwarts. Even battling pensieve guardians was easier than this.
Main Pair: OC/? Genre: Adventure/Angst/Fluff (it's a little of everything, tbh)
KEEP IN MIND: Characters are aged up (even if the story's got them in sixth year) to make it more appropriate. Time period is leaning towards the modern day so in case you might find anachronisms in the dialogue or references, this is why. This may also be quite a lengthy fic too.
BE WARNED: Social anxiety, mentions of blood and injury, grief, drinking, kissing but nothing more than that, death (this is Hogwarts Legacy, after all)
P.P.S: Some "trauma dumping" ahead between Norah and Garreth. Also some slight sexual tension too. I'm setting up what would be a very FWB relationship ahead. No smut though. Smut's gonna be in the sequel.
Masterlist
Chapter 16
The congratulatory comments Norah heard didn't seem to stop at Hogwarts. Everywhere she, Amit, Sebastian, and Natty went, she would be met with well-wishes from people whom she helped the year prior. At the back of her mind, Norah felt like this seemed to pose a distraction from the fact that Harlow was still on the loose and was rebuilding his business enterprise, perhaps finishing what Ranrok and Rookwood started but failed. As much as she wanted to revel in the good feeling of having achieved such an accolade, Norah felt like there was still more to be done. Even Madam Beaumont had previously warned her that she had done all that she could. And Merlin knows what Mrs. Daisy Rabe and Madam Bickle would tell her next about this.
Or worse, that damned Officer Ruth Singer. Norah didn't have fond memories of her encounters with the so-called law enforcer. If she and Natty had to take matters into their own hands to catch Harlow the first time, she was doubtful Officer Singer and the authorities would make more of an effort this time. The lack of effort only made Norah despise Officer Singer.
But, as Norah had observed, only months into the sixth year at Hogwarts, she was also undergoing the very familiar, but also quite bittersweet, feeling of her friend circle going through some changes. Because Andrew and Poppy had now become an item, she hardly hung out with them as she was now absorbed into Andrew's circle of friends. Natty seemed like she was on the verge of it as well, given the possible nature of her relationship with Henry, whatever it was that was going on between them. This reminded her that the wizarding world wasn't all that different from how muggles lived their lives. Including friends who ditched their friends to be with their romantic partners.
Nevertheless, Norah had come to terms with it, but it left her unsure of who to turn to now. They only had a year left until they were finished with Hogwarts, and what then? They would be on their own. Those thoughts had left her with the conclusion that she seemed better off hanging out with whoever wanted to hang out with her.
The price to pay for being a Slytherin, perhaps. Everyone would eventually not like her as much. It seemed like a lonely life was ahead, and being named the Hero of Hogwarts wasn't as all as it's cut out to be.
She dwelled on those thoughts while sitting at the bar of the Three Broomsticks one afternoon, with days left until the Hufflepuff common room party. More than a month left until the Yule Ball as well.
"Sickle for your thoughts?"
Norah snapped out of her continued dwelling when she saw Garreth appear, seating himself on the stool next to her while Sirona poured him a pint of butterbeer. "What?"
"You looked like you've got something on your mind," Garreth replied before taking a sip of his drink. "In fact, if I recall correctly, you've been like that for a while, is something wrong?"
Norah smiled and shook her head. "Don't worry about it. I can deal with it."
But the redhead didn't seem so convinced. "Even heroes need help, you know," He teased.
"Hero," Norah scoffed. "That's interesting. I don't feel like it, that's for sure."
Garreth's teasing expression faded at her words. "I'm sorry, that might've been inappropriate for me to say."
Norah waved a hand dismissively. "No, no, it's not your fault. I'm sorry, I'm just not feeling like myself today."
The Gryffindor looked down at his drink, then glanced at her. "Norah, I know our last conversation ended the way it did, but that doesn't change the fact that you've helped me, that you've been willing to help me, without even asking for anything in return."
"Then do me a favor and please don't ask," Norah quipped, glancing at him. "I know you're just trying to help, but I can assure you, I can handle it. Whatever it is."
Garreth didn't press any further, taking a long drink of his butterbeer as he glanced at her every now and then. "My oldest brother thinks the same way whenever we can tell he's having a hard time. Thinking he can deal with it on his own because it's what's expected of him. Whenever we ask if we could help, he brushes it off, telling us not to worry because he, as you said, could deal with it. He thinks we simply don't understand," He said quietly as he recalled those memories. "I'm really going to back off after this, but just know that it's good to let it out. Better out than in, is what my mum always says."
He finished his pint, asking Sirona for another one, in which she obliged, glancing at Norah with a hint of concern on her face from time to time. The two of them continued drinking in silence. Norah was stubborn that way. She didn't want to involve anyone out of knowledge that most of them couldn't even fathom what she had to face the year before. Even as they had repeatedly assured her that they would be fine.
As Amit once told her after they went through the goblin mine, that the whole escapade was enough of an adventure for a lifetime.
But if she wanted to change it, to change this thinking, she knew she had to make an effort, and it was going to be hard. She was, what the muggles would call, brooding, and she didn't like it.
"I don't know what to do," She suddenly said, after feeling some difficulty saying it. Garreth glanced at her, not saying anything but he remained still, ready to listen. "We're in sixth year, I don't know what to do after we leave Hogwarts, what profession to take up, and as much as I say I don't care if no one asks me to the Yule Ball, it still stings to know that it might be true. I have some unfinished business to take care of, NEWTs might become my cause of death, and I'm not sure if I still have my group of friends this year."
Garreth stared at his own drink while he listened. He wasn't sure if it was a good time to try and make her feel better, but his instincts told him not to say anything for now. Perhaps Norah was going to say more, and she did.
"Frankly, I was still embarrassed after the whole boggart thing. Carrow cursing me in the entrance hall was another thing to be embarrassed about," Norah somehow felt herself becoming more at ease. "Adele Kang told me I would've been confused for a Gryffindor because of how much I bled, apparently. But I ultimately felt ashamed, because people have this image of me in their heads, that I'm brave or something, that I couldn't get hurt, that what happened to me down at the caverns was nothing. I'm having a hard time trying to live up to that."
You don't have to, you never had to, Garreth thought. He wanted to say it, but he knew better than to do so for now.
"In reality, all those things that happened to me the year before? I was just as terrified, I feared for my life just as much as anyone. Imagine having to face several acromantulas in one year? Fighting troll after troll after troll? An entire cellar full of spiders big and small, multiple loyalist and Ashwinder encampments? Inferi?" Norah sighed. "The cave near the castle that's been infested with dugbogs, a dragon fighting ring. Sometimes I get the shivers just imagining those dead dugbogs still floating in the water."
Garreth also shuddered at the thought.
"But most of all? It's terrifying knowing that I actually fancy someone. But I know he doesn't plan on anything. He's too scarred by his own past to consider anything, not that I know he likes me back, but," Norah shrugged. "It's like everything and nothing all at once."
The description seemed familiar, and Garreth had an idea of who she was talking about. He's a complete idiot if he doesn't ask her to the ball, Garreth thought. But hearing her explain what was on her mind seemed to humble him a little bit and comfort him at the same time. The hero of Hogwarts, the youngest recipient of the Order of Merlin, First Class, admitting how even she had been struggling this entire time. Perhaps since the end of fifth year even.
Norah glanced at him, having been quiet this entire time. "I'm sorry for suddenly dumping this on you, I know it's a lot," She said, emptying her pint. "I told you I needed to deal with it on my own."
Garreth shook his head. "It's not a problem. In fact, I think it's a wonder that you managed to make it out of those in one piece, no injuries, nothing," He said. "...You still don't have a date to the Yule Ball, do you?"
She shook her head. "No, but I just think it's because I've scared anyone who would want to try, off," She muttered with a sigh. "Or maybe I'm just not anyone's type, which leaves me wondering what I should do to appear otherwise."
"You don't have to do anything," Sirona blurted out, refilling their pints. They can tell she had long wanted to say something. "You won't lose anything if no one asks you, but you should never feel like you're doing something wrong. In fact, I think it says more about those boys than it does about you if no one seeks you out for the Yule Ball."
Norah stared at the bubbles and the foam of her butterbeer. "It is pointless to try and make all that effort to get a boy to notice me," She nodded. "Besides, it's not the end of the world if no one asks me to the ball, compared to what Natty and Nellie are making it out to be."
The mention of Nellie made Garreth look up, then sigh. "Nellie really fancies Amit," He said. "You were right last time, maybe I really should move on."
Norah frowned. "It went downhill, huh?"
Garreth hummed. "She said she never really saw me as anything other than a friend, a schoolmate even. What's worse? I'm not even her type."
"I'm sorry, you must really like her," Norah said, moving her pint towards his in a toast. "The next round of butterbeer's my treat."
She laid down some more coins before Garreth could decline. "Thanks," He said, only to sit up when he remembered something. "My brew's ready now, by the way. It's in the Honeydukes cellar if you'd like to come try some," He suggested.
"We can finish this first," Norah joked as they downed what was left from their mugs.
~
A moment later and they found themselves in the sweet shop's cellar, looking at a barrel painted red with gold letters that said "Weasley's Fizz-beer." Garreth conjured some mugs to fill it in with the bubbly amber-colored liquid that smelled like the sweet treat itself. "Took a while to perfect, a year and a half, but I think I've nailed the recipe now. I would've preferred to make it look like the candy, but this is much better," He was pleased, taking another sniff of the beverage.
Norah brought the mug to her lips to take a sip. It tasted just like Fizzing Whizz-bees, only much stronger. It wasn't sickly sweet, but sweet enough to mask the alcohol content for a moment. It took her a moment to realize that she was already inches off the floor, as was Garreth, who looked even more overjoyed and nearly spilled his drink in the process.
Once their feet were firmly on the floor, Garreth put his mug down, arms suddenly outstretched and coming in for a hug. Norah, taken by surprise, wrapped an arm around him to return it, feeling a little calm now at the contact. He was warm, they both were, from the few butterbeers and then this. The brew aside, Norah could get a whiff of his cologne.
"I have to hand it to you, Garreth, you did well on this. You should bring this to the Hufflepuff party," She suggested as they pulled away, taking another sip and feeling herself float off the floor a few inches again. It was mostly to hide how she felt her cheeks heat up at how close they suddenly got. She reminded herself that it was because of the butterbeers and the brew.
Garreth grinned. "You think I should?" He said, making sure to reach out to her while she took another sip.
"Yeah, I mean, I didn't die or break out or anything, I think it's a success," Norah gave him a thumbs up as her feet were back on the ground.
She put the empty mug down, followed by a quick evanesco to clear them. "I'm quite brilliant, aren't I?" Garreth looked proud, as if his little revelation about his heartache earlier never happened.
Norah laughed as they went down the secret passage to leave. "Don't push your luck, you might not be to successful next time."
They passed through the familiar caverns, opting to swim rather than make the jump instead to get to the other side. Garreth took the lead, his cheeks suddenly getting ruddy when Norah emerged from the water, followed by a charm to dry their clothes. He was going to pretend he didn't accidentally glance at the way Norah's wet clothes clung to her.
"I'm forever glad you told me about this passage, Garreth. With people trying to look for me all of a sudden, even those I don't know, this is a nice way to go back to the castle," She said as they passed through the narrow lanes, some of which were covered in cobwebs.
Garreth turned to her, the thoughts of the two of them getting wet from the body of water they climbed out from and their little hug in Honeydukes cellar still on his mind. At this point, some parts of her dark brown hair were still wet at the ends, further reminding him of how she looked.
"Well, you were the new fifth year, I needed to tell you some of the ins and outs of the castle, even ones not many teachers know about, especially Professor Black," He tried to say as coolly as possible as they entered the lift that would bring them up to the entrance of the passage. "Besides, it looks like we ended up in Hogsmeade and back together after all," He said.
Norah smiled, the two of them getting off the elevator and climbing up the steps to the door that was behind the statue. She could feel herself getting rather light-headed, a little tipsy even, and she suddenly giggled, making Garreth turn to her, holding her by the arm in case she fell over.
"We might have had a bit to drink, huh? Or my brew was surprisingly strong," The redhead started laughing as well. "Ironically, I didn't even put alihotsy into this brew," He leaned toward her, the two of them leaning on each other for support. "Oh no, this isn't going to sit well with anyone."
"Your brew was stronger than you thought," Norah playfully slapped his arm, which slinked around her waist while they held each other up. "But I think we needed it, to clear our minds of whatever we're going through," she said, looking down at their feet.
As she looked up, she caught his gaze, their expression softening the closer they got to the entrance, the looming figure of the statue near. "I've got some hangover tonic in the common room," He said quietly. "You know, I'm curious as to what it would be like to kiss you."
Norah's cheeks turned pink at the remark. "Why don't you find out for yourself?" She challenged, another giggle escaping her.
The redhead hummed and groaned. "If I do anything, it will feel like I'm taking advantage of you again," He said, shaking his head.
Another giggle came from her. "I'm giving you an advantage. You get to kiss me, I finally know what it'll be like to be kissed by someone not related to me," she said. "This doesn't mean anything anyway, you were curious, I let you. And of all places, we're here, where hardly anyone can see us."
Garreth chuckled. "I don't know what it is about you Slytherins, especially you, Norah Lee. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you fancied me."
Norah scoffed. "I simply took the opportunity of wanting to know what it's like to be kissed. If you don't want to, it's okay. That just means you're a good person."
As if on reflex , Garreth wrapped his other arm around her waist. "You're making it hard for me to resist. Are you sure nothing will happen?"
"I should ask you the same thing," Norah patted his cheek, which he immediately leaned into. "You really made something strong with that brew, if the two of us are being like this..." She muttered, staring when Garreth pressed his forehead on hers. "How are you going to give me that hangover tonic when our common rooms are far away from each other?"
Garreth hummed. "You're right. Do you think we should sleep it off?" He said, giving her a little squeeze before letting go. "Maybe I could get Sallow to bring it to you."
"Sebastian?" Norah laughed. "I don't think anyone should know, at least for now."
"If you say so," Garreth sighed, trying to hold back his laughter as they stepped out.

Hogwarts legacy cute couples
Isko and daisy rabe
👀
Noticing there are actually very few couples in the game where both characters are present/alive... It's interesting to think about why they chose to depict certain ones the way they did.

After reading your answer, i never realized how many young actors there were on the mcu, can you make a list with ages and characters? i was never interested in young avengers but now i'm getting excited

Xochitl Gomez - America Chavez - Miss America; to be confirmed (14)
Iman Vellani - Kamala Khan - Ms. Marvel (18)
Emma Fuhrmann - Cassie Lang - Stature (19)

Elizabeth Olsen - Wanda Maximoff - Scarlet Witch (31)
Teyonah Parris - Monica Rambeau - Captain Marvel (33)
Remy Hii - Brad Davis (34)

These are the young ones in the MCU, not all of them are Young Avengers. One of them is from Fox’s Marvel version, but I think she deserves to be in the MCU, her portrayal of Polaris is amazing.

Nellie was an actress, born and bred. Her father was a playwright who received a fair amount of attention for his work and her mother was his muse. She was a stage actress herself and stared in most of her husband’s work, at least until Nellie was born. After their daughter was brought into the world, her mother wasn’t on the stage as often, though she was in the audience with young Nellie at her side always. Nellie adored the spotlight and would frequently create her own elaborate one-girl plays to perform for her parents and their friends. She relished in the applause and the way that her father would always gift her with a flower when she finished.
She wasn’t yet 13 when she was cast in a local play that her father wrote and that sealed the deal for Nellie. She began to audition more frequently and attended different classes to better her calling. Her parents supported her in this and believed in her. At that time, her younger sister had been born and Nellie adored having someone else looking up to her. She starred in a number of plays, some receiving more acclaim than others. She began to get more attention.
When she was turned 18, Nellie decided that she had had enough of traditional schooling and wanted to dedicate herself to her craft. She never finished school and once she was cast in her first major lead role, she entered a whirlwind relationship with one of her fellow actors. The two eloped just a few short weeks later, straining the relationship that Nellie had with her parents further after she left school and entered a relationship they had cautioned her to take slowly. Her new spouse supported her career-- though he believed that she could do better. He pushed her to audition for shows and even a couple of majors...and eventually she landed a part.
Her family had always been dedicated to the stage and couldn’t understand why Nellie would stray from it. She moved away so that she could get more jobs and in her second film, she and her spouse separated. Later, Nellie filed for divorce and quickly moved on. She made a neat career for herself and a reputation for dating co-stars. Her name became recognizable, something she was infinitely proud of. Eventually, she met her now ex, another acclaimed actor. The two became very serious, very fast and eventually married, in similar fashion to Nellie’s first wedding. Eventually, this relationship lasted longer than any other Nellie had had and they decided to grow their little family.
She had her daughter several months later, a little girl they named Matilda. All seemed to be well with the small family in the eyes of the public, though behind closed doors, Nellie and her spouse were realizing that they may have rushed into things. They tried to make it work for Matilda, but tensions grew and things ended in a tumultuous separation with Nellie trying to get the divorce settled. She moved back home to Huntsville, bringing Matty with her while the dust settled.
headcanons ;;
Nellie’s parents moved out of Huntsville shortly after she left, preferring a vacation home they had often frequented when Nellie was a child. When she came home, she moved back into her old childhood home with Matilda.
She had a penchant for getting into romantic entanglements with co-stars while working on set and usually the romance might continue for a couple of months afterwards...but they all fizzled out eventually.
wanted connections ;;
Ex - They met on set/were introduced by friends and things developed pretty quickly. They genuinely seemed to fall in love and decided to elope. Eventually, the two had their daughter, Matilda. They tried to stay together but it just wasn’t working. Any gender.

hello daisy!!!! i am wishing you a WONDERFUL valentine's day!!! ily friend!!! (and also, because i just noticed you doing the wip ask thingie--do u mind talking about 'AAA' and 'aaa'?)
aww happy late valentine’s day caroline ily💓💓
ask me about my wips
i talked about these two earlier, but i’m perfectly happy to keep going on about aaa lol so here you go—
all the handmaiden research for this has made me realize that rabe is just my favorite person. starts an illegal art trading ring as a teenager?? super observant and skillful and fights well and cares about people?? ma’am??
i also really like all the deeper meaning behind the fashion and clothing—how the queen’s outfit hides communicators and weapons and can be shedded quickly to escape, etc. i think that’s really cool and wanted to incorporate it :) and for naboo in general, drawing on indian culture since it already does in the movies even though it isn’t acknowledged.
the fic takes place after the zygerria arc (which is a whole disaster for so many reasons) so this is partially an attempt to give these characters some realistic aftermath to that. and umbara. it’s before the deception arc tho because i would like obi wan and anakin to trust each other at least. and i talked for so long about this i forgot to give a snippet, here you go!
Cody chuckled, allowing the change in topic. “Sure beats the view from Coruscant.”
“It most certainly does.” There was comfortable silence for a few minutes as they took in the stars. Then Cody spoke.
“General, I can’t order you to sleep, but unless you go soon I’ll get Helix on the comms to tell you off.”
Obi-Wan grinned, shaking his head. “Oh, dear. We wouldn’t want that.” He turned away from the balcony, Cody following suit. “I’ll see you in the morning, Commander.”

So diversity matters so much that's where HARASSING 7 YEAR OLD CHILDREN NOW?
So are we going to hear anything about this toxic fandom?
7-year old actress Lexi Rabe has been the victim of bullying online and out in public. Rabe portrayed Tony Stark's daughter in Avengers: Endgame and made Marvel Cinematic Universe fans from all over the world tear up with her "I love you 3000" line. On her personal Instagram account, which is run by her mother Jessica, the young actress posted a video where she is explaining her behavior out in public and stating that she is not perfect. This is really not something any 7-year old should have to be doing.
Jessica Rabe does not go into any specific instances of the bullying in her lengthy message posted at the bottom of Lexi's video.
She insinuates that people have treated them badly in public, possibly for not stopping to give autographs. She also insinuates Alexandra Rachael Rabe is starting to become self-conscious in public due to this bullying. As for the cyber bullying, it looks like Jessica and Lexi's followers have gone through and reported all of the negative comments, at least according to one fan who has been keeping track.
Anyone who feels the need to bully a 7-year old girl should really get themselves straightened out.
Some MCU fans are angry with her for things that are out of her control (like the possible whitewashing of Ironheart), which doesn't stop them from leaving offensive messages on her social media accounts.
Whatever the case may be, it's good to know there are some fans out there helping Jessica Rabe to clean up her daughter's Instagram account. If fans are approaching a 7-year old kid for an autograph, be polite even if she/he does not want to sign it.
Since Lexi Rabe's mother posted the video, fans have been coming out and helping to report the bullying, which then deletes the comment. She also posted a picture of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Starkwarning potential bullies to go somewhere else. Bullying on social media has caused some adult stars to leave the platform. Star Wars actresses Kelly Marie Tran and Daisy Ridley deleted their accounts after the toxic fandom became too much. Imagine what that negativity can do to a kid who is only 7-years old. Elsewhere on her account, it seems she and her family are living a pretty normal life, except for the red carpets and Hollywood sets.
In addition to Avengers: Endgame, Lexi Rabe also starred in this year's Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which means she was in two movies that were in the top ten at the box office at the same time. As of this writing, Endgame is currently the second highest grossing movie of all time and is getting close to taking down James Cameron's Avatar as the highest grossing movie of all time. Rabe has accomplished a lot more before the age of 8 than most people accomplish in their whole lives. You can check out the bullying post below, thanks to Lexi Rabe's Instagram account.

☆✧ lily rabe, 36, cisfemale, she/her ⋙ keep the cameras focused, olive kennedy has just arrived !! she is originally from boise, idaho, and in everyday life she works as a veterinarian. she likes to describe herself as loving & intelligent, but we’ve heard she can be rather timid & nervous. when asked, her aesthetics are daisies, autumn leaves, pumpkin spice, and sharp-mindedness. we can already tell olive is going to be a great addition to the cast !!
Tumblr media
- Olive May Kennedy is an only child. She grew up in a very small town in Idaho with her parents, and they lived in somewhat of a poverty state. She grew up homeschooled, which caused her social bubble to be a bit limited. She’s had trouble making friends throughout her life, especially as a teenager, since she hadn’t gotten around to interact with anybody else. The only peers she was close to were her two cousins.
- When Olive was 15, her parents were killed in a hit and run car accident. To this day, neither she nor the police know who was responsible for the death of her parents, and it continuously haunts her to this day. Ever since then, she had been raised by her grandmother for about nine more years. When Olive was 24, her grandmother passed away naturally, but it left her alone. She has episodes of PTSD when she’s not at her best.
- She discovered her passion and love for tending for animals when she was around 8 years old. One day when she was at the park with her mother, she rescued a pregnant cat who was crying and pleading for help, since it was at the point of giving birth. Olive singlehandedly took the cat to the vet and was called a hero since. Ever since that moment, she’s vowed to become a hero to other people and their pets too.
- Olive was always interested in biology and the medical field. When she began studying wildlife biology, she also took into account her love for science as well, in which she’s extremely passionate about. Due to this, she’s also a bit of a bookworm and loves to read and watch documentaries on other scientists who have influenced her life as well.
- Olive didn’t have very many friends, but she did have one specifically growing up, and his name was Ryan. He was kind of like Olive, shy and introverted. The two got along great, until she learned that he had to move away. He just quickly forgot about her existence and she was left broken not knowing how she could possibly make other friends when her social circle was almost nonexistent. After discovering that she was bisexual, she felt a little bit more comfortable in her skin talking to women.
