Dear diary, When I first met you, for the longest time, I'd scribble a few words on Jan 1st, PROMISING you that I'd fill your pages, only to leave you in a dusty corner for the rest of the year. But one day, I found solace in telling you the things I couldn't say aloud. Song lyrics that I patiently scribbled as I pressed the pause and rewind buttons. Halter Breaking

This semester I was enrolled in Dairy Science Techniques as a hands on course and this today was my LAST dairy lab of the semester! 

This afternoon at the dairy farm we were taught how to halter a dairy cow by practicing on 3 of Clemson’s show cows from the milking herd (momma cows). These cows were used to being haltered and did not put up too much of a resistance. However, after everyone had the technique down pat, we moved on to the heifers (female cattle who has never given birth) whom had never been haltered before. We corralled them all up and practically had to chase them in order to catch them, toss the rope around them, and slip the halter over their heads real quick before they had much chance to run. I got kind of lucky as the heifer I went for was in a corner surrounded by its friends and didn’t really put up much of a fight. Others, did not get so lucky as their heifers would run from them, run into people and other heifers, and dash out as soon as half of the halter was on.

psa: it can be extremely dangerous to kneel in an area of easily excitable immature animals of any kind as a girl later in my class nearly got trampled
