It’s so hard being at school away from this big handsome fella everyday. My family used to raise English Bulldog puppies from a couple of our females. It was great getting to play with them everyday, watch them grow, learn each of their little personalities emerge but it was so hard to try and not get attached to them.
“Doofus” was the first and only male bull pup we kept from any of our litters. I fell in love with this guy when he was a little puppy 4 years ago and somehow convinced my Daddy to let me keep him. We connected in every way, a perfect match, and he was so adorable with his red coat color that I hadn’t seen on that breed before. He is the clumsiest dog I have ever known: turning into walls, sliding down the hallway, running into couches. Every time he does something stupid, he jumps right back up and gets back to what he was doing just like nothing happened. He can be so dumb sometimes yet he is so incredibly smart. My dad wanted to name him Clifford, for Clifford the big red dog, but I thought doofus was much more fitting😂. So ready to see my big heavy lapdog❤️

Halter Breaking
Tumblr media
This semester I was enrolled in Dairy Science Techniques as a hands on course and this today was my LAST dairy lab of the semester!
This afternoon at the dairy farm we were taught how to halter a dairy cow by practicing on 3 of Clemson’s show cows from the milking herd (momma cows). These cows were used to being haltered and did not put up too much of a resistance. However, after everyone had the technique down pat, we moved on to the heifers (female cattle who has never given birth) whom had never been haltered before. We corralled them all up and practically had to chase them in order to catch them, toss the rope around them, and slip the halter over their heads real quick before they had much chance to run. I got kind of lucky as the heifer I went for was in a corner surrounded by its friends and didn’t really put up much of a fight. Others, did not get so lucky as their heifers would run from them, run into people and other heifers, and dash out as soon as half of the halter was on.
psa: it can be extremely dangerous to kneel in an area of easily excitable immature animals of any kind as a girl later in my class nearly got trampled

Hey Y’all!
Hey guys, welcome to my blog! I am super excited to start documenting all the fun (and not so fun) stuff I get to do on a regular basis and share my experiences. I am Angel and I am currently coming to the end of my sophomore year at Clemson University. I am majoring in Animal and Veterinary Sciences with a Pre-Veterinary and Sciences concentration. My course load consists of all the prereqs for many vet schools as well as hands on animal courses. Since I did not start this blog earlier, for the first little while I will be sharing different things that I have had the opportunity to do in my hands on classes this past year and once I catch up I will begin sharing new exciting experiences! Hope you enjoy following my journey as much as I enjoy living it!
