Dairy Cows

A passive cow variant found in temperate grassy biomes that can serve as a source of milk, hide, and beef. They are based on real world holstein cows.

These cows, alongside Woolly Cows, replace the vanilla minecraft cows.

Uses

Dairy cows are, as the name suggests, primarily a dairy cow and as such drop a limited number of beef, about 0-1 by default.

When killed, they also drop 1-3 hide by default.

They can be milked 3 times before needing to rest for 2 minutes (real time).

They can be bred with wheat.

Flavors

They come in 3 variants; Normal, Chocolate, and Sweet Berry.

Normal cows make up about 99.9% of natural dairy cow spawns and provide a milk bucket when milked.

Chocolate cows do not spawn naturally and instead have a 10% chance of being born when breeding two normal cows. They have a 50% chance of being born from a chocolate cow and a normal cow, and a 90% chance between two chocolate cows. They provide a chocolate milk bucket when milked.

Sweet berry cows have a 0.1% chance to spawn in the place of a normal dairy cow. However, when breeding a sweet berry cow with any other kind of dairy cow, their children will always be a sweet berry cow. They provide a sweet berry milk bucket when milked

Each kind of milk bucket can be transferred into bottles in a crafting table, with 4 empty bottles and 1 full bucket resulting in 4 full bottles and one empty bucket.

Normal milk bottles remove a single random effect. Technically this is weaker than using a milk bucket which can remove any number of effects, but it is unlikely a player will be under more than 4 effects that they would want to remove at a time, making milk bottles ideal for things like dealing with an elder guardians mining fatigue.

Chocolate milk bottles provide 30 seconds of speed, making them a decent source of speed as long as you don't mind needing to carry lots and having to refresh the effect often.

Sweet berry milk bottles are able to reverse a random negative effect on the player, for instance turning poison or wither into healing, or slowness into speed. The time the effect lasts is dependent on how much time was remaining on the negative effect.

Isopod update, my dairy cows have been multiplying like nobody's business. They're doing wonderfully, and have been thriving on a mix of shrimp pellets, veggie scraps, repashy diets, frozen-thawed blood worms, and the occasional jelly pot. Been trying to bump up their protein to prevent cannibalism, but have yet to see any signs of pod-on-pod violence.

I love how anytime I interact with them, one or two will always check to see if my fingers are edible.

Got some new bins to work on moving some isopod cultures into new fresh set ups. Currently working on moving the dairy cows since their bin is like pure frass

Made a little pitfall trap to catch the rest hiding in the bin since I forgot to get a sieve... It's working pretty well though!

I also decided last minute to instead of giving the bin to the Zebras to try and make a dubia roach culture

Originally bought them as feeders for the ants but ahg, they're cute and would save me money. I might go back and get a few adults or just let these guys grow and do their thing 🤷

At the moment I have them set up like I do my isopods, gonna see how that works out.

I was a little apprehensive to trying to keep these guys before since they do require heating, literally won't reproduce if it's below 68f and my room is usually around 64-65f... So I'm gonna try putting them on top of my snakes tank near the heater and see if that works well. But first the lid is a little warped so I'm weighing it down with other bins and I have a fan on their ventilation since it's probably too humid in there.
