HOT TAKE(?) PART 2
i dont think that aemond asking helaena to fly dreamfyre to battle is cruel or like. irrational
he knows helaena well, he's aware of how she feels about violence and noise and everything associated but he literally doesnt have any other choice?? and if he was doing it to be cruel - which he isnt - he would've brought it up before now. he's now aware that rhaenyra has eight dragons if rhaena does get hers (syrax, vermax, caraxes, moondancer, vermithor, silverwing, seasmoke and then rhaena if she gets one). aemond has one dragon. vhagar is big but she is not equipped to take on eight fully grown dragons alone and be expected to win. tessarion and daeron are on their way but even with the extra dragon hes still no match for the tb dragons. we all saw the fear when he realised nyra had 3 extra dragons stashed in her back pocket who are now on the field, and with aegon out of commission he can only turn to helaena. she's the only person with another fully grown dragon because at this point it's ask helaena or accept that rhaenyra is going to absolutely fuck them up
also yes i know aegon being unable to fly right now is his fault but it doesnt change the fact that hes desperate and scared and hes held off on asking helaena until now but he doesnt have a choice. bc whats he gonna do?? ask jaehaera to fly morghul into battle?? shes six . "no more nap time jaehaera .. war time .."

Had a very random thought of Daeron the Drunken marrying a Redwyne girly because... it seems like a fun pairing in my head... maybe she even takes him to the arbour to do some wine tasting, bonus points she's also bi and very much into kiera of tyrosh or daenora targaryen.
Also had a thought of Aerion marrying a noble girl from Lys? maybe from House Rogare? coming back home with kids and maekar goes "Wtf Aerion... I sent you there to reform and you come back with a wife and kids!?"
Oh and a Bolton lover for Shiera Seastar + Bloodraven.
I'm weird lol don't even know where the brainrots came from ...

After @littledovesz dropped the gorgeous queen in the north outfit, I felt like sharing some pics of my fanfic-headcanon of hotd which means it's a fanfic of another fanfic, but no problem and my girl using it!
Behold Sansa Manderly, Daeron's betrothed!
In my headcanon, things happen differently and Otto sends Daeron to secure northern loyalty. Given that hotd!Jace didn't talk to the Manderlys, we won't have any Manderly in the show outside the battlefield, so it gave me freedom to create her. When it comes to Daeron, I'll be honest and say that I edited one from the Gallery because I'm horrible with male sims lol
We don't have an established description of the Manderlys, except that Manderly men are corpulent. The descriptions I found of manderly women were from Wynafryd (braided brown hair), Wyla (braided yellow hair taken after her mother, from House woolfield), and Leona woolfield (plump pink, round face and yellow hair) so I mixed all these elements to create Sansa. And yep, I've decided to name her Sansa because I love the character and because in the books Cregan's granddaughter will also be named Sansa, so why not? It's not like she will ever show up in hotd haha
S1 and S2 headcanons are finished and if everything goes well, Sansa's part in S4 will be one of my favourites to conceptualize.
to sum things up, Daeron plays his cards right and Manderly accepts his offer in exchange for a marriage pact. Daeron's only request is to establish the pact not only before a septon, but also before the Wolfs den's heart tree. There's a whole context for his decision here but the post is huge enough, so maybe next time XD

i've pretty much given up on house of the dragon and will only be watching to support clinton as addam because the show is all bad, most of the fanbase is worse, and there seems to be no end in sight, but daeron is my baby so i have to SAY SOMETHING
there's no way daeron can be criston's bastard without completely destroying his character and everything about him. i understand hbo doesn't respect anything that makes the targaryen's special (having an actual bond with the dragons, magic, being able to control them, etc) but you're either taking away the biggest part of his character or destroying the lore. why would you do either. just leave him out completely.
and not for nothing, but imagine spending the first part of your life listening to your mother, brothers, grandfather, and apparent illegitimate father preaching about how horrible your (fellow) bastard nephews are simply because of a birth circumstance you share with them and then being sent away forever? the resentment, the pain, the loneliness???? he's already an incredibly isolated and tragic character, whyyy would you want to strip him one the only period of familial happiness he ever knew?
no one who appreciates daeron as a character could want that. honestly, no one that appreciates any of these characters can want that? you love alicent but you want every word that leaves her mouth to act as a knife in her youngest son? you love aegon and/or aemond and you want their younger brother to remember the unkind things they said about people of his own birth rather than literally anything else?
idk. it's a terrible idea for so many reasons but as someone that genuinely loves daeron and sees what george's intentions with him were on the page, it's so upsetting to think about them being so careless with him to get the small percentage of audience members watching with their brains shut off to say "oooo" for 30 seconds and then forget about it forever lmao
#i really do think something to do with him triggered george's recent blog post#daeron is blatantly his favorite green#he's made sure to say repeatedly he'll be included#idk. he's for sure mad about a lot and i think daeron's involved but i hope it's just them deciding not to include him after all#anti-house of the dragon#daeron the daring#alicent hightower#daeron targaryen#aemond targaryen#aegon ii targaryen#criston cole#angelica rants again

So. Someone a bit ago commented on one of my fics (or here, not sure) about my penchant for odd Tolkien rarepairs. I myself forget just how many I have, so here’s the rundown and why I like them:
Maedhros/Maeglin (just. the angst. of being buried under your mistakes and finding a kindred soul to share that same burden and heal together. soulmates. who might’ve even met during the nirnaeth. and they’re definitely switches your honor)
Celegorm/Aredhel or Celegorm/Dior (or Dior’s reckless/headstrong stubbornness reminds him of Aredhel and there’s a lot of angry/bittersweet proxyfucking and guilt and ‘I don’t know who I truly love anymore’)
Maglor/Luthien (beauty for beauty’s sake. and honestly anyone but beren. luthien getting involved with the war to protect her murderbard boyfriend and actually putting a dent in morgoth’s forces. mags trying his hardest to protect her as much as the silmaril she won back for him)
Curufin/Finrod (sending your husband to his death (that he knew abt but didn’t tell you) and screwing up your sons and living the rest of your shortened life regretting soooo. many. things. and then having to deal with them after mandos. a bitter beautiful chaotic mess that can only end in tears)
Fingon/Varda (don’t ask: even I’m not sure—something something gil galad’s associated w/ stars and no one knows who his mom is and I like me some valar with greek god leanings)
Aegnor/Haleth (battle bros to lovers, bc haleth won’t take no for an answer like andreth did 😒)
Argon/Amarie (falling in love with your cousin’s ex was not the intention after being the first one killed/sent back. but she’s finally moving on from finrod and you’ve grown to care for her company more than you thought…)
Daeron/Beren (beren didn’t deserve luthien—this started as a joke but these two seriously deserve each other in all their squabbling glory)
Mablung/Nienor (they just. deserve happiness and peace. and lots of adorable peredhel kids. please)
Eowyn/Merry (same as above, but they have the benefit of having an entire shire to rebuild and different cultures to find wonder in and grow to love as much as their own)
idk I might be missing some but these are my thoughts on my main Tolkien rarepairs

When Alicent Hightower moved her four children to the states to start a new life, she hadn’t excepted to meet a ranch owner who would open his heart up for her and her little family.

Criston Cole: The ranch had been in his family for years before he met his soulmate, Alicent. Along with her, he now has four children that he loves dearly, even if they can make his head spin sometimes. He spends his mornings making breakfast for the family, and then working on the ranch with all of his children.

Alicent Hightower: The young English woman met her soulmate, Criston, when she her eldest boy got lost in the grocery store. Criston found him and the rest was history. She likes to spend her time gardening and working at her flower shop. She tries her best to attend the matches of her three eldest children, but the danger of their sports scares her.

Aegon Hightower: The twenty something young man lives at home with the rest of his family where he helps out on the ranch. His bull riding career has taken off within the last couple of years. If his mother won’t come to see him, he always knows that Helaena, his sister and secrete lover, will. He always makes sure to attend her matches in return. Aemond and him both fell in love with sport at a very young age due to their father teaching them.

Helaena Hightower: The barrel rider is making her name known amongst others and her talent can be seen by anyone who lays their eyes on her. She likes to help around the ranch, the garden, and watch her brothers matches. Aegon and her have been secretly together since they were fourteen. When she’s not busy with training, she can be found at her mothers flower shop in town. Aegon is usually trailing behind her like a lost puppy.

Aemond Hightower: Like his brother, Aemond’s passion can be seen in the sport of bull riding. The rush of it all is what he enjoys the most, especially when he goes up against Aegon. He’s a private young man and no amount of buckle bunnies can get him to spill his secretes. He likes to work on his fathers (family) ranch and spend time with his family.

Daeron Hightower: The youngest of the family can always been seen either at school, the ranch, or around town. He loves to help his father with whatever work that needs to be done on the ranch, and he works weekdays at his mothers shop. He didn’t get into bull riding like his brothers, but he does have a passion for helping the animals around him. His dream is to go to school to become a veterinarian.

“why would elaena marry a dornishman when they’re nasty evil people who murdered her poor innocent brother daeron”
maybe because once elaena grew up she realized that there were better ways of bringing dorne into the realm than violent conquest, and that daeron got the death he deserved from not just a nobility that is valid for fearing subjugation from valyria but also a smallfolk sick and tired of these people showing up every few decades to set their principality on fire, and put aside any anti dornish sentiments she may or may not have harbored as a child to see the way her family had directly attributed to their suffering, eventually even falling in love with and marrying a dornish man??
also, considering daeron ii attempts a type of proto-reparations act in bringing dorne into the kingdom, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that someone as intelligent as elaena would recognize the inherent racism in the targaryen conquest of dorne and especially considering the very loud anti-dornish, deeply anti intellectual faction in the blackfyre rebellions, realized they wouldn’t be kind or understanding of an intelligent woman like herself and had no interest in herself or her daughters (of which she had four!!) getting shoved back into the maidenvault again?
like, daeron i is on some andrew jackson manifest destiny shit, and if it makes me an asshole for thinking “god i wish someone had merked jackson before he genocided & displaced my ancestors, good on the dornish for realizing you can’t negotiate with imperialists” than i am perfectly comfortable being considered an asshole right next to my girl elaena.
#everyone discoursing about the young dragon. listen. they should have tortured him before they killed him too.#anti daeron i targaryen#valyrianscrolls#anti house targaryen#idk just in case. clearly i’m not anti everyone i’m complimenting elaena & daeron ii#elaena targaryen#daeron the good#daeron ii targaryen#getting on my soap box#dorne#also when i say ‘my ancestors’ i mean that jackson passed the indian removal act specifically to remove my tribe (and several others) bc#white people in the midwest didn’t like that we wouldn’t leave.#my tribe managed to work somethjng out and only had to move a couple miles away from our homelands. others in our area were forcibly mkced#*moved. look up the potawatomi trail of death. they marched them thru illinois’ capital. dozens including children died.#also read about the fort dearborn massacre. and rising up from indian country which makes the argument that it wasn’t a massacre#but a battle bc white americans had been raiding potawatomi villages for weeks. so the potawatomi struck back and people to this day insist#it was a massacre just bc the potawatomi were better at fighting than the americans. nah.#u don’t get to wage a war of conquest on an innocent and indigenous population just to turn around and say they were mean for fighting back.#i’m sorry i woke up today and decided to choose violence. i’m in an awful mood aksjdjd

Slim Advent calendar 22: Time

“My lady.” Cano bowed as deeply as a prince’s son should before a Valie.
Vairë nodded to him. “What a pleasant visit. May I call thee Macalaurë? This has always seemed to be more poetic.” She kept working on her loom, pulling through it colorful threads with speed and precision beyond any other's.
“Of course.” He chose his next words carefully, not to say anything too controversial. He would much prefer to discuss those matters with someone less caring about controversy, and likely more knowledgeable, but his father barely let him talk to any of the Valar. Cano hated politics. And the fact that he had to be political in order to learn more about art. “May I ask you about the Great Music?”
“Lady Varda knows more, though she does not talk much. But even many of her Maiar would probably be a better source of inspiration, or, even more so, of Irmo's. But ask if thou willst.”
“Was there time then? Before Eä?” Cano forced himself not to blush. His father would probably find at least three logical errors in those questions.
But Vairë didn't admonish him. She paused her work for a moment, then answered. “No. There was no time then.”
“Please, don't treat this as doubting you, but, how did music work when there was no time?”
Now she paused for longer. Cano wondered how much to look at the Valie, and how much at the colorful, lifelike tapestries surrounding them. He should seem bold, but not too bold; decisive but not rude. The tapestries were so light that they flickered like flames with every breath, which made it even harder to not stare at them all the time.
Finally, Vairë spoke. “It might be better to say it thus: there was time, but unlike now. Order, but not yet a measure. Earlier ones came before the later ones, but none were longer than others, until they lasted over then and then more. They had no length, only direction.” Before Cano could verbalize his confusion, she added “Thou lovest thy father. That's one of the things the Noldor are famous for. And thou lovest your harp. And surely thou lovest thine father more, but it's not possible to say how much more. Twice? Thrice? Hundredfold? This question does not make sense. Now imagine time being in this way. That's how it was when we came to be, and that's how it was when we sang the Music.”
It took Cano some time to imagine, but she let him think in peace, and in the meantime worked.
“I see. That's harder to work with, but not impossible.”
Vairë looked at him deeply, pausing her work again. “Dost thou wish to create something resembling the Music itself? Do not.”
“I—” Now he let himself blush. Father wasn't there to chide him about it, and Cano really didn't want to anger one of the Powers. “Not something mighty. But I am seeking to increase my understanding of what music is.”
“Fine then.” She resumed weaving. “It would be pointless anyway. The Music was deeper in a way I cannot explain in any way thou wouldst understand. Like a fabric is to a thread. And yet, it was not complete.” The last words she said with sadness.
“How so? It's the world not complete then?”
“No, unless in the sense that it hasn't come to its end yet. The world is more then the Music, and we do not know all of it.”
Cano stood still, as politeness would have it — he was not some Vanya to sit when visiting one of the Powers, no matter what he would prefer, father made it clear — and Vairë seemed to understand this. It was enough that he asked them strange questions.
“Does this mean, my lady, that there shall be a time when your knowledge ends?”
“Not soon. And not as thou imaginest it. The Music was not…” She took one of her threads. “This is like the Music.” With quick movements of her fingers, she crocheted it into a small square. “And this is like Eä.”
She used a multicolored thread, so the square was mostly gray, but a contrasting line ran across it. “Those are the parts we have not sung. They are not limited to one place, as thou seest. But it is not a big part. The Music ended on the cadence, at least on a six-four before, if I were to compare it to the structures from thine book.”
Cano’s heart leaped with joy. Vairë herself had read his book? And didn't find it useless? Father had said it was decent, but not strict enough. But how could he make thinking about music even more strict? It was an art too, after all.
“I hope to write another one when I learn enough.”
Vairë smiled. “I'll gladly read it.”

First sentence “The moon fell through the air with nothing to stop it.”
A second later, the glowing orb hit the ground with an explosive crash and sent splinters of glass skittering across the stage.
"Spawn of Ungoliant," Daeron swore under his breath.
"Bad craftsmanship," said Maglor, "Noldorin glass would have withstood that fall."
Daeron released a long breath before answering his fellow musical director. "Perhaps -- but a Sinda would have tied a knot that ensured it didn't fall in the first place."
