Another day of being extremely obvious.

And no, I will never get over the L'Oreal commercial.

When it comes to character design Murasakibara is the one of the five GOM I like the best. Especially the choice of the shade of purple. Because Akashi's red is a little unsettling or a bit ridiculous depending on what he's wearing, Kise's yellow is the most obnoxious "I'm a dadelion, come at me bees" kind of yellow, Midorima's green is literally the most unappealing shade of green you could have possibly gone for, and Aomine's blue is... yeah, whatever, it's fine, but Murasakibara's whole colour scheme is actually pleasant to look at. Also I like long-haired characters. 🤷

I also wish I knew more about him, but his personality, place in the story and the location too make it so there isn't as much information as there is about the others. He's also a character whose perspective I had to grow to understand better. It wasn't until towards the end of university that I personally experienced what it's like when something you do happens so easily, you're so natural at it, that it's both hard for you to figure out what it actually means to you and hard for you to watch other people struggle for half of your results. I'm very passionate by nature, and before that time it never even occurred to me I could ever be good at something I'm not passionate about, especially something that sort of permeates your reality, so that was a very eye-opening experience.

Murasakibara also gets my sympathies because he's so smart if he just decides to, like he can just up his grades if he wants to but often he couldn't care less and that reminds me of my brother... (Actually Aomine reminds me of him too. Yes I have very talented siblings.)

I guess it's like, if I can find myself in a situation where I don't know how to quit something because I don't hate it, I even love aspects of it, and I'm too good at it so the pressure from other people to continue is too much for me to figure things out even though it ultimately takes more than it gives mentally... Then Murasakibara can definitely find something he's truly passionate about without reservations, and I want to write him doing that. Even if he remains more of a side character in my fics for now, I want to portray that at least.

Have some soft boys.

Geralt sat cross-legged on his bed roll, his hands resting in his lap.

The crackling fire behind him warmed his back and cast an orange glow onto the forest surrounding him.

The sharp scent of pine, the smokiness of the burning wood. If he focused more, he could smell Roach standing a few yards off, dozing where he had tied her to a tree. If he closed his eyes and really stretched his senses, he could smell Jaskier.

The Bard was leaning against his pack opposite him on the other side of the fire. He could smell the delicate cherry blossom soap Jaskier used, the scent lingering on his skin, mixing with the oakyness and sweetness that was quintessentially Jaskier.

Even though Geralt couldn’t see him, he knew the Bard was jotting ideas down in his notebook, his tongue sticking out the way it did when he concentrated. He could hear the scratching of a pencil on paper, the occasional shift in his posture.

Geralt tuned out all the other gentle sounds of the night and focused his hearing acutely on Jaskier.

He could hear his steady breathing and, yes, he could hear his heartbeat pattering away in his chest. It was consistent, steady, comforting.

He let the sound fill him up as he settled into himself.

It had been a long day of traveling, it was getting late, and he knew Jaskier would need to sleep soon. He on the other hand, hadn’t really exerted himself so meditating would be enough to revive him.

After they had eaten, he had asked the Bard to keep the noise down and even though he’d pulled a face, Jaskier so far had complied.

A pang of guilt rippled through him. He had spent most of the day not really listening to the Bard’s nonsensical jabbering and impromptu lute playing. He knew that Jaskier had been looking forward to settling down for the night, testing his newest ballad on him as was often their routine. And he had asked Jaskier for quiet, and peace instead.

He heard Jaskier stifle a yawn and Geralt frowned, opening his eyes. He wanted to include him, let him know he appreciated his company.

“Jaskier,” he hummed softly, the sudden noise startling the Bard, “come here. Bring your lute.”

“Um, okay?” he heard Jaskier rise and he turned so that he was now side on to the fire.

“Sit behind me with your back against mine,” Geralt rumbled.

Jaskier hesitated, uncertainty tainting the air around him.

“It’s okay,” the Witcher reassured him.

Jaskier sat down, folding his legs under him, placing his lute in his lap, his back pressed firmly against Geralt’s.

Geralt could feel his tension and he closed his eyes again.

“Close your eyes, breathe deeply,” he instructed.

He felt Jaskier’s breath expand through his body then release.

“Don’t speak, but think about what you can smell, what you can hear,” Geralt hummed.

Jaskier shifted slightly against him.

“Geralt,” he mumbled, “what are we doing?”

“Hush,” Geralt scolded.

He felt Jaskier breathe deep again and he knew the Bard was trying to focus.

He let the silence stretch for a moment, settling down again. Then said, “Jaskier, play your lute. Don’t think about it. Keep your eyes closed. Just play.”

He could feel Jaskier’s arms shift as he picked up his lute.

Jaskier brushed his fingers softly over the taught strings and the melody lilted into the night.

Geralt could feel the vibrations of the instrument in the air and he focused on the music.

It was light and sweet and beautiful. Simple and genuine and warm.

Jaskier’s head rested back against Geralt’s shoulder as he played and Geralt matched his breathing with the Bards. Long, slow pulls of air, in, and out.

Geralt could feel his muscles relax and his mind unravel.

The melody wove around him, cocooning him in complete peace.

For a long time they just sat pressed against each other, letting the intimacy and trust of the moment warm them.

Eventually the music faltered then stopped, Jaskier’s arms falling to his sides and the Witcher knew he had fallen asleep.

He smiled to himself as he carefully turned and tucked his arms around the Bard, laying him gently on the bed roll and placing the lute beside him.

Jaskier shuffled slightly but quickly stilled again.

Geralt stayed next to him, the length of his thigh just touching Jaskier’s arm, falling back into his meditative state, listening to that steady heartbeat, the melody still echoing around in his mind, counting the hours until morning.

Do you prefer Show!Geralt/Show!Jaskier or Book!Geralt/Book!Dandelion or Game!Geralt/Game!Dadelion. I feel like they’re so different there’s lots you can explore with each pairing :)

Oooh good question!! I'm gonna just try to pick between books and the show, just bc I haven't played/watched playthroughs of the games enough to really get attached to their dynamic.

Honestly, I'm so torn between the books and the show because like... in the books, there's something so pure and genuine about Geralt and Dandelion's friendship, and I love the fact that they're such foils in the way that the world views Geralt as a monster/something "other", to the point where Geralt sees himself that same way, and Dandelion is the one that points out that humanity in him.

I really love how that balances the fact that the world sees Dandelion as this lovely, delicate bard who knows only delightful positive things like love and kindness...

While Geralt is not only the one who witnesses Dandelion's vices like greed/vanity (to the point of being so aghast that someone insulted his music that he wished death upon them)...

...But also isn't afraid to call him on it (while they're sharing a bed)

And I just love show!geraskier because... I think I have a bit of bias because it's the first version of geraskier/gerlion I saw. But putting that aside, I think a lot of the reason I love it is because of how Joey brought such a lovely bard to life! And made a foil to Netflix!Geralt "Grumpypants" of Rivia by playing such a cute, sunshiney bard!

(I mean just... look at how ENTHRALLED he looks when he sees Geralt for the first time. Those big blue eyes!!!)

And there are just... so many scenes unique to the show, like the "and yet... here we are" scene and the one where Jaskier asks Geralt to come away with him because he's "trying to work out what pleases him" (both scenes where Joey UNDERSTOOD THE FUCKING ASSIGNMENT and then went for EXTRA FUCKING CREDIT), that made me just... adore what Geralt meant to Jaskier (and imo, how head-over-heels he was for him).

Of course, the downside is... the way Geralt is to him in the show :(

But that brings me to another thing I love about show!geraskier: what the fandom has done with it! Like, as much as the mountain scene is devastating, the fix-it fics I've read for it are just AMAZING. I think the talented and amazing people that make up this fandom have taken the wonderful content that Henry, Joey, and the people at Netflix gave us with Geralt and Jaskier in the show, and just made it something so fucking lovely through fan content. The creators in this fandom are just so fucking talented! <3

...Aaaah! I'm so torn, anon! I don't know whether I prefer book!gerlion for the soft friendship between them, or show!geraskier for both Joey and Henry's portrayal and what the fans have made from it!
