The Chronicles of Karai Getting Her Shit Together by Crowdog - TMNT 2012. Post season 2-canon divergence where Karai shows up at the farmhouse instead of staying in the city. Her relationship with Leo blossoms as they’re both forced to face their inner demons. A beautiful, vicious, surprisingly funny story about coping with trauma while being a young monster in love. Tw for abuse, torture, PTSD, disabilities, noncon, alcoholism, molestation.

77 Things Michelangelo is Not Allowed to Do on a Mission by Winnychan - All versions. A cute, funny parody of “Skippy���s List” from a great writer who was taken too soon.

My R by cxlesstial - TMNT 2012. Pushed to the edge, Leo is forced to confront the sufferings of his loved ones along with his own. Inspired by Miss Chief’s beautiful, heartbreaking Youtube videos My R and Self-Inflicted Achromatic. Tw for depictions of depression and suicidal thoughts/actions.

superfight by persepoline - TMNT 2018. “You’d think Leo’s superiority complex and Donnie’s inferiority complex would be at least somewhat compatible. They’re not.” Humor and angst ensue; cw for discussions of disability.

Water, Contrast by Anonymous - TMNT 2012. A short, strange examination of the girl known as Oroku Karai and the ugly things that have shaped her.

sub!Leo prompts by GoblinCatKC - A collection of sexy stories, ranging from the sweet to the vicious, based on Tumblr prompts. Contains BDSM, explicit sexual content, and Turtlecest. Tw for various forms of dub-con and non-con.

Casting Stones at the River by GoblinCatKC - TMNT 2003. An immortality fic with plenty of angst and NSFW sex, including T-cest and polyamory. One of the first TMNT fics I ever read, and still one of the best. 

By Arrangement by theherocomplex - An Arranged Marriage AU where the fate of a world-saving alliance between humans and mutants rests on a reluctant union between Donatello Hamato and warrior April O’Neil. A sweet, funny slow-burn fic.

Not Our Problem by Kyn - “Set in a future in which the Foot took over the East Coast for over a decade. The three surviving turtles have finally killed Shredder, but remain bitter, jaded, scarred, and more than a little distrusting of humanity. Lots of hurt/comfort/psychology/fraternal love/infighting. Involves a baby.” Warnings for discussions of infanticide and suicide, attempted rape/non-con, and coping with disability.

All the small things by taizi - TMNT 2012. When an accident leaves Donnie unusually smol, Mikey has to deal with being a big brother for the first time ever.

jade green eyes turned white by subtlyfailing - TMNT 2012. A powerful and brutal exploration of the dark Raph storyline at its fullest potential.

Completely Casual by Werepirechick - TMNT 2012. Casey, Donnie, and eventually April stumble into a relationship. Winner of FIRST PLACE in the Universal TMNT Erotica Fanfic Competition 2016 for STEAMIEST SLASH/FEMSLASH. Warnings for self-loathing and bad guys being hateful.

Baby Diaries by the Peanut Gallery by moonie - TMNT 2003. The TMNT and their allies record their thoughts after one of Bishop’s schemes leaves them with a very small new member.

A Son For A Daughter by sleepseeker - TMNT 2012. When Splinter attempts to briefly trade Leo to the Foot in order to rescue Karai, he makes a grave miscalculation that will upend all their lives. Tw for intense non-con and mutilation.

Devil took your hand by moogsthewriter and taizi - TMNT 2012. The Hamato Clan races to save their youngest member after he’s brainwashed by the Foot; a beautiful and terrible story full of angst, violence, and survival.

in the bitter watches by impossiblewanderings - TMNT 2012. Raph speaks to Leo as he lies in a coma, spilling the broken and terrified pieces of his heart.

Past to Present by crabapplered - TMNT 2003. A sad, sexy tale of the SAINW TMNT bonding with each other and their newly returned Donnie through group intercouse, because why not?

Raphael/Donatello Mating Drabbles by Plastron - TMNT 2003. A steamy anthology with turtlecest and the occasional touch of dub con.

These Are Our Days by love_killed_the_superstar - All versions. An adorable description of Mikey and Woody’s relationship.

Ten Minutes by kay_cricketed - Mirage verse. Leo pushes himself to the edge in order to meet a seemingly inconsequential goal. A lyrical, angsty story from a spectacular writer.

Ronin by Lexifer - TMNT 2012. A Leorai story in the aftermath of a devastating final battle between two clans.

Laugh Till It Hurts by BrightLotusMoon -TMNT 2003. Love, angst, and peculiar coping methods in the aftermath of a battle.

Freeze, Starve, and Break Stuff by Abnormal_Cleric  - Raph is cracking at the edges, and Donnie might be the only one who can pull him back. Tw for self-loathing and self-harm.

Together Again by InkyTurtle (Melodistic) - TMNT 2012. Donnie has finally gotten his beloved brothers back--sort of. Now the question is whether he’s the turtle they left behind.

can’t let a cold heart be free. by Chandrakantya - An angsty little Leorai story on a rooftop.

Gravid Problems by Gemi - The TMNT are in for a big change after Donnie gives Leo and Raph some very interesting news. A sweet, funny, adorable little work; warnings for mpreg and tcest.

Countdown to Clarity by LittleKy - 2007 movie and other versions. An angsty reverse-chronology fic discussing the cracks that might have spread through Leo and Raph’s relationship.

Big Brother by outrunningdismay - “AU where the brothers hatched at different times.” A adorable work full of smol turtles and Leo learning to be a big brother one step at a time.

Maelstrom by FicklePencil - Raph’s thoughts in the aftermath of “Broken Foot.” A lot of angst for a rather short fic.

Hey y’all, if you want to avoid tcest content, here’s a list of tags that you can use to filter that content. You can also check this guide I made about how to block content you don’t like not only on Tumblr, but also Twitter, AO3 and even Instagram. The guide is tmnt centered so I recommend giving it a look.

Go to your settings:

And in your settings, just scroll down a bit and you’ll find them. They are between Language and Active Sessions, at least on PC. You just have to click on the pencil icon and a place will appear where you can write them one by one.

After very recently I only had the tag tcest blocked, since (I think, I haven’t really asked) it’s the more common one. With only that blocked, I have only seen two times content of this type on the main tags (and by callouts, not tcesters) , so I think it works well. If you want to be extra safe, the ones I recently added are the following:

They are not all, obviously, but I think this covers most bases and since I’m pretty sure most people will already use tcest, turtlecest or incest, y’all should be fine.

I’ll stay up all night (just thinking about you) by Evpher - A sweet, funny story about the childhood you get over, and the ones that sneak up and pull you tight when you’re not looking. Apritello endgame.

pathetic by cxlesstial - Donnie’s got a lot of issues, and his family is about that find that out the hard way. A heartbreaking, but powerful and necessary story with warnings for mental health problems, self-loathing, and self-harm.

crossover! ;) by cxlesstial - Just that. 2012 and 2018 meet up, and both sides are better for it. Now a series!

Got Your Back by FoxGlade - Donnie coping with the many implications being a soft shell in a hard-shell world; a story that manages to be thoughtful and heartwarming without turning into inspiration porn.

And I feel just like the only one by soda_coded (orphan_account) - A clever and creative turtle tots AU story with hints of TMNT 2012, exploring the unusual events that turned Raph into a leader instead of Leo (cw for injuries)

to know yourself by Werepirechick - A trans!Raph story filled with love and support, penned by a spectacular writer whom I adore.

Meanwhile, April. by Werepirechick - A series with a ton of April stories that give her a role in episodes where she didn’t appear in canon.

on the flipside by Werepirechick - April and the boys switch species, leading to some very interesting family bounding, with perhaps a minor stop on the angst train.

Hot (Chicken) Soup for the Soul by hotmilkytea - Sweet, funny character study of Splinter by a hysterically funny author who deserves plenty of kudos.

i’m on your side and that’s forever by orphan_account - Really good story exploring the different ways Donnie cares for his family as they grow up, often without any of them noticing.

three o'clock in the morning by agotdamnclown - Hurt/no comfort; Leo’s brain is dragging him down when he should be getting to sleep. Tw for self-hatred.

Bad Input by technofantasia - Leo struggles to cope with the unthinkable and doesn’t do very well. A very dark story about we can and cannot let ourselves know, featuring violence and character death.

The Rise and the Fall by KatlynneLyons - A super-angsty series about how the repercussions of Splinter’s depression and decision to make Leo leader have impacted his sons, especially Raph. Can’t wait for more!

Aggrieved by unorthodoxx - 2003/2018. The 2003 turtles have the darker parts of their lives thrown into sharp relief when they travel to the 2018 universe.

It’s 5 AM, Mikey by Screamless - Mikey has ADHD, but Donnie has a cunning plan to get him to go sleep. A very sweet little story about neurodivergent turtles, the ethics of buying pet food when you have no pets, and the plot of Outlast.

A Scientific Blemish by CharmyWizard, eternalglitch, jadethestone, tiramisu_art - Really amazing collaboration introducing Agent Bishop to the TMNT universe. Donnie gets snatched up by an ambitious scientist and finds himself in a deadly battle for survival.

Fallen Soldiers by Byrdybyrd - Explores Leo’s damaged mental state after his traumatic encounter with Draxum. Lots of angst, but no comfort, so be warned.

Twin Thing by HolyMangos - An angsty turtle tot exploring what makes a twin a twin, starring Leo and Donnie.

(2018) Leonardo gets really sick with a strange yokai disease and his family tries to figure out why...  Dont wanna say too much to give anything away, but if you like to read about magic, possession,  brotherly bonding and angst, and a lil bit of apriltello, read this!! It's amazing, and theres a sequel too that just started that Im OBSESSED with.

Like Father Like Son by @eternalglitch

(2018) Probably the most popular rottmnt fic in existence, but its going on this list anyways for the new people in the fandom to know about too! Its Leo centric and features Draxum kidnapping him to get his original turtle warrior plan back up and running. Its an amazing fanfiction, one of my favorite fanfics of any fandom Ive ever been in, but it does feature some pretty dark topics. Make sure u keep the tags and warnings in mind if you read!

It Started With the Milk

Donnie is acting strange, very strange... And Leo is gonna figure out why. A creepy fic that has just the right amount of psychological horror and angst for me.

My favorite 2012/2018 crossover fic! It has some really cool takes on the concept I havent seen before, like the emotions and fears that one of them have bleeding into their counterpart (so like, 2012 Leo feeling 2018 Leo's fears, for example). Its really really good and I definitely reccommend it

The Brains and the Brawn by @jadethest0ne

Ok its a comic, not a fic, but close enough. Donnie and Raph team up! The two try and beat the Purple Dragons but stuff happens and Donnie loses access to his tech and Raph is forced to do some math. Its got angst, comfort, and humor. Definitely recommend.

Its Alright Its Okay by @its-kall-the-clown

When Leo is injured during a cave in incident, his brothers try and keep him alive... The only problem? Leo is the team's only medic, and his brothers have no idea what to do. Angst/comfort, and I must have read the final chapter like a dozen times by now because I love one of the ending scenes so much.
