#xiantober Day 14: Bartenderxian
CW // Alcohol, Attempted Drugging, Violence, Wen Chao, Cops
Friday nights are always swamped. The bar Wei Ying works at is in the middle of a busy area and attracts a lot of attention.
He has to say, he loves working there. He gets to meet and chat with people from all walks of life. It also keeps him distracted.
That isn't to say it's an easy job. It's not. It takes a lot of effort and energy and he has to stay vigilant, especially when it's crowded.
Tonight is one such night.
The unfortunate reality is that he can't keep track of everything and everyone. The other staff help that, but tonight just happens to be an understaffed night. He's a little on edge and not willing to put up with any shit.
He's had three different guys kicked out tonight already and it's not even 8 pm.
Wei Ying had noticed the young lady who came in alone (having lightly flirted with her as she ordered from him), so he tried to keep an eye on her as much as possible, but he was simply overwhelmed.
So, you can say he was kicking himself a lot when she came up to the bar and ordered an angel shot with ice.
He froze, eyes trailing where she came from to see a man staring directly at her.
"Sure thing," he said to her with forced cheer as he pulled.
Just as he finished ordering a ride for her there was a commotion that drew his attention. The man he clocked earlier was standing really close to another man, squaring off.
He swears under his breath and tells Wen Ning to man the bar while he goes over there.
As he gets closer he overhears what they are talking about.
"Back the fuck off, dude! It's none of your business!" the creepy dude exclaims.
The other man (stunningly gorgeous now that Wei Ying is getting a better look at him) doesn't budge. "I saw what you did."
"Oh? And what's that?" the creep sneers.
"You put something in her drink when she got up," the beautiful man says darkly and Wei Ying sucks in a breath. Fuck. He signals back to Wei Ying to call the cops.
The creep laughs. "So what? I saw her first. Why? You want in?"
Wei Ying's skin crawls. What an absolutely disgusting person.
He sees the beautiful man's face morph into a disgusted look before he replies, "No, and I am not letting you do anything to her either."
The creep snarls and Wei Ying doesn't get there in time to stop the punch.
Thankfully, he's apparently not needed because the beautiful man mostly dodges and swiftly punches the creep, knocking him out immediately.
The bar is absolutely silent.
"Holy shit," Wei Ying breathes. "You okay?"
The beautiful man looks at him and nods. "Yes, I apologize."
Wei Ying laughs and waves him off. "No need, that was amazing. I would have done that myself if I got here sooner, so thanks. Sorry you had to deal with that, though. You shouldn't have to."
The man shrugs. "I saw it and chose to act, that is all."
It's a bit of a blur after that. The cops arrive to take statements, get the footage of the incident, and take the creep (Wen Chao, a cousin of Wen Ning, who is now permanently banned) away.
The woman's name is Luo Qingyang and she profusely thanks them before leaving.
Wei Ying later finds out that the beautiful man's name is Lan Zhan. He doesn't drink alcohol (Wei Ying had offered him a glass of their finest wine for his trouble) and was here to accompany his brother and his brother's friends.
"Brother claims I do not get out enough."
Wei Ying laughs at that.
Lan Zhan ends up staying even as his brother and co leave. Wei Ying talks animatedly with him every chance he gets.
It's nice.
By the time the bar closes, Wei Ying has asked for Lan Zhan's number so they can keep in contact.
Lan Zhan obliges easily.
After that, he visits the bar often on nights he knows Wei Ying has a shift. They text and call every day and hang out when they are free.
They both become friends with Luo Qingyang as well and she often joins Lan Zhan at the bar so she isn't alone.
Eventually, Wei Ying asks Lan Zhan out on a date and it's the best night of his life.

This scene from the novel doesn't get nearly enough recognition when it comes to appreciating Wei Wuxian's dedication to premium, individualized, no-shortcuts torture.
Jiang "I'm only 3 months into this sect leadership thing and already can't imagine having the free time & energy" Cheng vs. Wei "only artisanal, handcrafted, bespoke torture made from scratch will do" Wuxian:
"Were you the one who has been killing Wen sect disciples?" Lan Wangji asked.
"Of course," Wei Wuxian replied.
"I knew it," Jiang Cheng said. "Why did you kill them one at a time? That's so much work."
"It's fun, toying with them until they die," Wei Wuxian explained. "Exterminating them right away is letting them off too easily. Kill them one at a time, one slow slice after another. Force them all to watch it happen. Needless to say, I haven't tortured Wen Chao enough yet. As for Wen Zhuliu... he owed Wen Ruohan a debt of kindness for his recognition. So much so that he changed his surname to join the Wen Clan and carried out Wen Ruohan's orders to protect his precious little son."
Wei Wuxian sneered.
"Since he wants to protect him, I want to make him watch all the more. Give him a front-row seat to watch Wen Chao deteriorate beyond recognition in his hands, little by little, until he becomes neither human nor ghost."
His smile was sinister, cruel, and cheerful in equal measure.
--Ch. 13, Vol. 3, 7S translation (ch. 62 of the original novel)
As much as I love Jiang Cheng, I think it's clear that on this topic Wei Wuxian is superior in his detail-oriented and thoughtfully considered approach. It's like comparing a Michelin starred chef to a TV dinner. True craftsmanship is always something that deserves appreciation.

Humiliation - Watched by Mocking Enemy
[askbox game!]
(answering out of order; this was number 3)
This one has a lot of Untamed potential!
First formed up idea: before Wen Chao throws Wei Wuxian in the Burial Mounds, he has his men gang rape him. He doesn’t touch him himself - he won’t lower himself or dirty himself with the son of a servant. (Maybe he says, he didn’t quite get a chance at the actual Jiang heir this last time. But, next time…) But he definitely watches and has quite a bit to say.

[A-die's replacemen (18+)]
ChaoLiu | Mo Dao Zu Shi cw: one-sided incest 12-07-2021
[#chaoliu, fun time turned slightly angsty ¯\_(ツ)_/¯] (NSFW) (cw: (one-sided) incest)
It wasn't anything new for wc, than to call wzl to his room, everyone was used to the young master being so demanding of their sect leader's bodyguard. but little did anyone really know what wc was doing with wzl behind those closed doors, hidden by silent talisments. or rather what he was letting wzl do to him.
Sure, he had a loud mouth and wasn't really discreet about sleeping with anyone he found good, but sometimes he wanted someone else to be in charge, he wanted to feel a different kind of pleasure and wzl was there for it, he clearly didn't mind it either.
the first time it happened it was some rather angry and drunken (at least, he was drunk) sex. he couldn't even tell what had pushed him to provoke wzl, nor did he know what made the man act either (he had searched for the man limit and it seemed like he could go with anything).
He may not remember how it started, but he remembers how it felt. The feeling of being pinned down under someone else, strong hands keeping him in place has hips rapidly slapped against his bottom. hot breath against his nap, noise barely escaping the man's mouth.
It had felt really good and he wasn't going to stop doing it because he wasn't the one doing the ponding (tho it did take a hot moment for him the realise he did enjoy taking it from behind).
But being treated that way also allow for something wc had tried to hide for years now to resurface again. when he couldn't see wzl, he could very well imagine anyone else doing what wzl was doing and his mind would betray him with images of someone he /should not/ be thinking about at such a moment.
But he had decided that if no one knew, maybe he could allow these thoughts to for as long as their little session was going on, after which he would banish them to the back of his mind again to not come back (until the next time he called wzl).
He was careful, so what could go wrong? Well, not being careful enough was what could happen.
"A-die" he had moaned out loud without realising it, realisation settling in only once wzl movement had stopped behind him.
He immediately paled at this. He was so screwed, he had left his shameful secret out. He was about to try and crawl away from under wzl, ready to lie about whatever just happened when he suddenly heard whispered against his ear "chao'er".
The voice sends a shiver down his spine, confused by how similar it sounded to his father.
How could wzl imitate his voice so closely? this coupled with the way he called him (which he didn't allow many people to do like so) made him flush a bit when he realised just how excited he had gotten at that, slightly shaking under wzl skilled hand.
wzl who is usually always so silent was now a bit more talkative, keeping that imitation, calling wc name and praising him on how good he was being for a-die.
the imitation was not perfect, but his brain was pleased enough by it to imagine easily his father doing all the things wzl was doing to him. He didn't understand /why/ wzl played along like this, but he wouldn't complain about it either.
It was probably one of the best things he ever did with wzl, leaving him foggier at the end, barely registering wzl helping him wash.
the following days he slightly avoided the man, while simultaneously spying on him to make sure he wouldn't tell anyone about his secret.
It was only when he called for wzl again to try and threatened him to not say anything that he really saw the man again.
He was ready to use threats to make him keep his mouth shut, but was surprised when instead he felt someone in his back, body flush to his. He was about to protest when he heard him call him in this voice again and it made his knee weak.
He startled a bit when a blindfold was placed over his eyes, hand shooting up to take it off. "Why don't you trust your a-die chao'er? I promise everything will be alright, you trust me right?"
This made his breath hitch a bit. Of course, he trusted his father.
With the blindfold on and having barely seen wzl since he got there, it was easier to fully imagine wrh being the one carrying him back to the bed with seemingly no effort. It was easier to imagine that those large hands were wrh ones. that the nails scraping against him were the same that usually look rather threatening. It was easier to lose himself in that fantasy of his and if this was what wzl was ready to do with him, then so be it, they would role-play his deepest fantasy.
He would let his "a-die" take him any way he preferred, sometimes even pushing him to be a bit rougher than he was. He would flush at the dirty demands coming from his "a-die", embarrassed to be asked (even tho he is sure he has asked some of these himself in the past), yet always doing them.
Sometimes he would feel a bit bad afterwards, knowing he shouldn't be doing something like this, but on the other hand, he knew he could never have the one he really wished to have. It was ridiculous to even think it could happen.
so instead of feeling bad about it, he decided that it was at least /less/ bad than actually sleeping with his father, at least it couldn't really cause much of a scandal if people discovered he was sleeping with wzl.
His calling for wzl had usually been an occurrence happening every few weeks when he felt like it as he would either be with his wife (which was now nearly forgotten about) or go to some brothel. It did stir some questions from others, but no one really dared to ask either of them what was happening.
This time it did really reach wrh. The man had been slightly suspicious of what kind of relationship his son had started with his bodyguard but had decided to turn a blind eye to it.
It all seemed like an occasional thing and wasn't too much of a problem, yet this could be a problem if wc couldn't even get one kid out of his wife. He didn't exactly care for what wc did and with whom, but he at least wanted him to have one kid.
He did ask wzl about it and the man was, for one of the very rare times where it would happen, seemingly keeping back some information from him.
"I simply want to know if you have that kind of relationship with my son," he asked again.
"Only physical" the man replied.
wrh hummed at this, looking at him, knowing he wasn't lying. "Though it does seem like you went to chao'er quarter late in the night rather frequently lately, is my son doing bad with his wife?"
"I do not believe so"
"Then how come it seems like you are the only one he ever wants?"
there was a slight silence again, wzl looking at him. This made him realise he might have promised wc to not tell him anything, which was really amusing.
"I can show you" the man finally said, as if this was better than telling him.
wrh did arch a brow at that, not expecting his man to suggest he watch his son having sex with another man, but he was curious enough to know what could even cause him to suggest that.
So he did just that, following wzl the next time he was called over by wc.
he waited a bit before finally entering, hiding his presence and going to sit on a couch facing the bed.
He could perfectly see how wc was already greedily riding wzl, back against the older man's chest and facing him, showing him everything. He doesn't really see what is special about all this, other than his son riding another man while being blindfolded.
Then this is when he clearly hears wzl talk in a voice close to his. It doesn't take him by surprise (they have used this skill of wzl in the past) but it does make him raise a brow and smile slightly amused at that, wondering why the man would imitate him in a situation like this.
Then he whispers something he cannot quite catch and his son moan, calling out to him. not wzl. /him/.
This does surprise him a little bit, as he did not expect it to happen, yet the peculiar scene continues and wc calls out for him more, begging for more from him and clearly drowning in the pleasure and praises wzl gives him with /his/ voice.
Now he can understand why wc wouldn't want wzl to tell him what this was all about.
He doesn't exactly know what to do with this information. It does make for an interesting view (it is not every day you would see your son riding another man while calling out for you), but he also has never seen wc as more than his son and doesn't plan on being more than a spectator for this time.
ah, but he supposed it is good then if wzl takes such good care of his son, this would not cause any problem like this.
although... he might come to watch the show again in the future.
====
(I swear I have no clue how to finish this or where to go with it. All I had in mind at work was wzl fucking wc while imitating wrn so he can have his secret love in a way)

well, speaking as a lesbian who hasn’t actually finished watching cql, no. you’re wrong. lu enjie being beautiful has nothing to do with my meowmeowification of jiaojiao
it’s like 15% thinking she’s an underutilized character who gets unfairly reduced to the closest convenient tropes bc mxtx handed her some interesting traits but didn’t actually care about her that much outside of how she helps to advance the plot, 15% how she fits into the larger narrative picture of how mdzs discusses and wrestles with issues of classism and how We Live In A Society has fundamentally different meanings and ramifications for any given character based on the circumstances of their birth, 5% finding her stupid malapropisms ridiculously charming, 5% wishing she would’ve bit wen chao’s dick off without being influenced by wwx’s bullshit because i think jiaojiao deserves to do violence to wen chao i think it would be very sexy of her, and 60% wanting donghua jiaojiao to smother me with her bountiful titties
anyway thank u for asking, person in the tags of a post i didn’t write or agree with! i adore my poor little jiaojiao, she has done everything wrong ever in her life and i love that for her 🥰🥰🥰

7. Hello!!. i need need need to know if theres any more fics like A Street Kid Named Wuxian where wwx isnt adopted by any sect and just grows up on the strrets/ poor or an orphan @yesibest
A Thousand Things by tickertape (M, 108k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, WWX Isn’t Adopted by the Jiāngs, Developing Friendships, lots of OCs, miscommunication and misunderstandings (they’re idiots your honor), Nightmares, Hurt/Comfort, Panic Attacks, Cloud Recesses Shenanigans, Slow Burn) fits but Wei Ying lived in Yiling until he's around 17 and then gets invited to train with the Lans for a year. It doesn't go into a lot detail about his life on the streets but he is poor throughout his childhood and into his teens.
Ad Oblivione by Baph, HikariNoHimeWriter (M, 70k, WangXian, Time Travel Fix-It, Temporary Character Death, Canon-Typical Violence, POV Multiple, Hurt/Comfort, Grief/Mourning, Identity Reveal, Golden Core Reveal, Cultivation World Critical, Not JC Friendly, Abusive YZY, Angst with a Happy Ending) link in #14 Not sure if this fits as while WWX does grow up on the streets without being adopted into a sect, it's down to time travel, with his soul being sent back to his child body, so he has knowledge of the future & cultivation, so he gets to cheat a little & be more than a normal street kid

8. Hello, I was wondering if you and the lovely community could help me find selkie-style creature fics? In myth, a selkie is a seal creature who can shed its fur and walk on land as a human. Whoever holds the fur has control over the selkie because they cannot transform back without it. So I am looking for similar themes in WangXian fics! I just read Burn It All Down by nekojita which suggested this would happen with Jiang Cheng holding one of Wei Wuxian’s dragon scales, but the wip hasn’t been updated to finish that portion of the story! So I come to you, looking for more “I control you as long as I hold this part of you captive” stories. Thank you for any recs you can suggest! <3
never love an anchor by tardigradeschool (T, 31k, WangXian, Selkies, No Powers, Historical, Hurt/Comfort, Depression, Pining, Angst, Happy Ending, The Inherent Eroticism of the Sea, PTSD, Presumed Dead, Drowning)
💙 this river runs to you by sundiscus (T, 53k, WangXian, Modern with Magic, Mutual Pining, Dragons, Literal Sleeping Together, Tender wound tending) this might work? It has Dragon!LWJ whose dragon is missing. While no one actually uses it to control him in the story, the possibility that someone could is a major driver of the plot.
Lanterns To Guide You Home by cuttlefeeeeeeeeesh (T, 7k, WangXian, Mutual Pining, Mythology, Selkie AU, Fisherman LWJ, Selkie WWX, Sorta Established Relationship, Fluff, Soft (tm)) might like Lanterns to Guide You Home? It's a bit of a twist on the selkie trope, being less about captivity and more about wangxian reuniting/mutually pining years after being married, but I think it would still appeal to a reader who likes selkie stories. And it's a lovely fic!

9. Hi! For the ITMF, I was wondering if there are any fics where WWX knows a bit more about MXY when he wakes up in his body? By viewing MXYs memories maybe, or something like that? 17. Hi! I meant to ask this, but I think I haven't yet (it would already be posted otherwise). For the ITMF, are there any fics where WWX, post canon, gets transported timewise into the 13/16 years he was dead? Preferably only for a bit until he figures out how to get back, and while hiding his identity. Thanks for the help! @hikato-chan

If you didn’t get an answer to your ask here, don’t forget to make use of @mdzs-kinkmeme and MDZS KINK MEME on Dreamwidth. Authors actually do use them for ideas. You may get what you order!***Your prompt doesn’t have to be kink! Fluff, crack, whatever - it’s all good!***

TW- SA
Hey I'm sorry if your seeing this 2 times im not sure if it went in the first time cause the wifi wasn't working properly😭😭
Can you do a fic where wei ying was sa'ed by some wen soldiers before being thrown into the burial mounds set during the sunshot campaign. after he cones back as the yilling patriarch they captured one of the soldiers who sa'ed him and interrogate him,the soldeir makes comnent on wei ying and they(nie mingie, jiang cheng, jin ziuxunl, lan xichchen) find out and they confront him about ,but hes nonchalant about it.They also end up finding about his lost golden core.
Sry if its too uncomfortable❤ don't do it if it is💜
The prompt, if I wrote that all, would be more the 10k type of fic, but I hope you enjoy this scene! Also are you the anon who sent the other dark fic prompts??? My guy (gnc) I continue to be curious why you picked me of all people for them.
CW: derogatory language, mentioned past rape, WWX is dissociating pretty hard but the POV character doesn’t realize
Lan Xichen stared at the boy—the man his brother loved and found Wei Wuxian look at their captive like all the vile comments he was spewing were beneath his notice. He sounded bored of them, his expression not dissimilar to the one he used to wear at the Cloud Recesses, paying no attention to Lan Qiren’s lectures. This only seemed to enrage the Wen General more as he shouted, not stopping even when Jiang Wanyin demanded he ceased his lying. If not for the silencing talismans in the room, drawn by Wei Wuxian, quicker with his blood than anyone could procure ink, you’d be able to hear it at the other end of the camp.
Lan Xichen isn’t sure how to take control of the situation again. He’d gone because they needed someone to play Inquiry in case the prisoner died, Jiang Wanyin was there as the Jiang had long since staked claim on every Wen from Wen Chao’s posse, their blood was Yunmeng Jiang’s right to spill. Nie Mingjue could hardly be left out of the interrogation of such a high-ranking Wen soldier and excluding the Jin, even when Jin Zixuan looked like he might lose his breakfast any moment now, was a political nightmare waiting to happen.
And yet, the nightmare happened anyway, Wei Wuxian standing impassively as the soldier spoke of acts so depraved that Lan Xichen wished they were nothing but a taunt.
“Are you done?” Wei Wuxian interrupted finally.
He moved past his sect leader, hardly seemed to notice Jiang Wanyin at all, even when his martial brother reached for him. It was, Lan Xichen realized, as if none of them seemed to be there for Wei Wuxian. In the corner of the room, a shadow flashed red. It had to be one of Wei Wuxian’s brides, they never strayed far from their master, even when unseen. It should disturb Lan Xichen that even at the camps they surrounded by barriers, Wei Wuxian’s ghosts slipped in and out and yet—
“You’re nothing but Wen Chao’s whore, good for a quick fuck”
The soldier hadn’t finished his sentence before the bride in red had her hand to his throat, bloody fingernails digging into his throat, squeezing it just hard enough to leave the man choking.
“I asked if you’re done,” Wei Wuxian repeated, his voice lacking all inflection. “Where are your troops stationed?”
“You—”
The bride in red squeezed harder before letting go of the man’s throat to pull his head back by his short hair. She grinned, teeth as sharp as blades, looking proud of herself, like a child endearing herself to her mother, waiting for Wei Wuxian’s benign approval of her actions.
The soldier spat at their feet. “You won’t be able to stop them, boy. You’ll be left begging again.”
Wei Wuxian tilted his head. “I didn’t beg then, I had no need to, unlike your Master when I tore him apart.”
Lan Xichen hadn’t been present for Wen Chao’s murder, but the stories following his execution hadn’t been kind. If even the least of the brutalities the soldier had tossed at them was true, it was understandable why Wei Wuxian would’ve lashed out so much at Wen Chao, if it was not just to avenge his sect, but also the hurt dealt to him personally.
“Besides,” Wei Wuxian continued, seemingly unbothered. “All Wen Chao did to me? Do you think the dead did any less? They repaid any hurt twice over and I told you what I’d do to you when I returned.”
And then, the soldier’s eyes widened. He wasn’t given the chance speak as the bride in red plunged her hand into his throat, effortlessly ripping it out. The solider choked, once, then drowned in his own blood.
“Be good and quiet now,” Wei Wuxian said, sounding faintly as if he were echoing another’s words. “Your screams are ruining my mood.”
The soldier’s corpse dropped to the ground and Wei Wuxian’s bride left it to return to her master’s side, handing off him like one would imagine a living bride, clinging to… not her husband. Someone she’d be less shy around. A sister perhaps, someone who might have understood.
“Wei Wuxian—”
Jiang Wanyin reached out, but when his hand touched Wei Wuxian’s shoulder, the other man pushed him away. His eyes widened and, though Lan Xichen hadn’t realized it before, it was as if a fog cleared in them. Wei Wuxian’s gaze drifted to the corpse he’d left behind and all neutrality of before washed away by pure horror. He took a step back, then another, a next one, and rushed from the room in a panic.
Jiang Wanyin didn’t even hesitate, chasing after his martial brother without another look at the slaughter behind him.
“Xichen?”
Lan Xichen tore himself from the empty hallway and faced Nie Mingjue. “I’ll play Inquiry,” Lan Xichen said and settled on interrogating the spirit. It hadn’t been torn apart, though had Wei Wuxian thought of it, perhaps he would’ve done it.
Out of respect for the Jiang Head Disciple, Lan Xichen never allowed himself to ask, is it true? All you did to Wei Wuxian?
It wasn’t for him to know.

Summary: Wen Ruohan and Meng Yao uphold their end of the bargain with Qinghe. It's a successful mission but not without a cost.
Characters: Wen Ruohan, Meng Yao, Wen Xu, Wen Chao.
CW for violence here. It's not super descriptive nor long, but there's a beating and explicit and somehow gorey murder. Also injuries. A fun a wholesome chapter all in all :'D
There is some actual wholesomeness by the end (kindasorta), but well, if anything a story like this needed a bit more blood already lol.

And here it is~ the drabble based on the results of these three polls (extra poll) – A WangXian Soulmate AU ~ CW: Mentions of Allergies and potential Allergic reaction, WWX purposely ignoring an allergy (ex. Wei Ying wants to eat an almond joy but is allergic to almonds)
It turned into a crack fic 😅 I hope you all enjoy it ~ And hey, I ended up using all three quotes anyway 😂
--Start--
"Wei Ying! No!" Lan Zhan exclaimed as soon as he caught sight of his soulmate. Wei Ying startled at his sudden appearance, turning to him with wide eyes and a slightly guilty expression, his hand bringing the candy bar to his mouth froze in place.
"Those have real almonds in them, why would you eat that if you were allergic?" Lan Zhan asked, horrified as he took the opened almond joy away from his boyfriend, suddenly grateful he entered the kitchen not a second later, "Where did you even get this?"
There definitely shouldn't have been any type of almonds in the house, let alone anywhere Wei Ying could accidentally or purposely get to them.
"Huaisang keeps saying how good it is! I wanted to try it!" Wei Ying whined, making grabby hands at the candy bar, "Come on, just a bite Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying gave him his best pout, he could see his Lan Zhan waver briefly before his stance firmed back up.
"No."
"But I'm not even that allergic to it! I'll just get watery eyes and an itchy mouth." Wei Ying defended, "Plus it's my body not yours!"
Lan Zhan shot him a Look.
"It may not be my body, but it is a body that holds a soul I care for very much and can not live without. Even the universe agrees." He said, with a pointed glance at the soulmark clearly visible due to Wei Ying's choice of slouchy tank top, Lan Zhan's matching mark was covered by his t-shirt.
Wei Ying flushed slightly, "Lan Zhan."
Ugh, why did his boyfriend have to take them being soulmates so seriously? It makes Wei Ying's heart melt.
He could still remember the day they realized it, it was a business event he went to with the Jiāngs. Everyone was dressed to the nines, alcohol was flowing, people were mingling; and Lan Zhan had decked Wen Chao after he attempted to throw a drink at Wei Ying for a reason he can't really recall anymore.
Attempted, because Lan Zhan had swiftly stepped in front of the line of fire just as Wei Ying prepared himself for the splash of cold amber colored liquid. His fancy shirt got completely ruined even with Wei Ying immediately dragging the other to the bathroom in hopes of saving it.
Seeing the soul mark on Lan Zhan's shoulder was the cherry on top of the cake that night (the cake obviously being watching Lan Zhan giving Wen Chao a black eye....and maybe also seeing Lan Zhan wipe his bare chest and abs down with a wet paper towel).
Wei Ying couldn't deny the pull he had towards the other since even before that incident, though. Constantly following after the other, making excuses to see him, hanging out with him whenever he could, touching him and teasing him a ridiculous amount. Seriously, his thoughts practically consisted of Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan 24/7.
Finding out they were soulmates just made sense. And Lan Zhan loved to remind him of it every day. Wei Ying is honestly surprised he hasn't combusted from all the blushing he does when Lan Zhan says literally anything sweet or romantic. Or even worse, teasing.
Lan Zhan softened, "Wei Ying, my love, I would hate to see you in any amount of pain, almond joy is not worth it."
"How would you know!? You don't even like almonds." Wei Ying pouted.
"Wei Ying, please. I will make you a homemade almond joy without the almonds. Please, don't risk your health for a simple candy bar."
Wei Ying perked up, "You can do that? Would it actually taste like a real almond joy?"
"It will taste even better." Lan Zhan promised with no hesitation.
Wei Ying hummed, eyes narrowed in thought.
Lan Zhan was surprisingly good at baking. Maybe he really could find an almond-less almond joy recipe or even make one up himself. Either way, it was obvious he wasn't gonna get to taste the candy bar any time soon.
Wei Ying sighed, "Fine. I won't eat it."
Lan Zhan instantly relaxed, going to throw the candy bar in the trash, "Good. They suck anyway."
Wei Ying squawked in surprise, laughter rising up, loud and bright, a fond smile crossing Lan Zhan's face at the sound.
"Lan Zhan! Don't let Huaisang hear you say that! He practically worships them!"
"Mn." Lan Zhan washed his hands before coming back to the island where Wei Ying sat.
"Take a nap with me." He said, gently easing Wei Ying from the bar stool by his thighs, Wei Ying instantly wrapped his legs around Lan Zhan's waist in response, arms slipping over his shoulders
"Okay." Wei Ying rolled his eyes fondly, "You don't have to carry me, Lan Zhan. I can walk."
"I know." Lan Zhan replies, heading off to the bedroom without once letting go of him.
Wei Ying pressed a soft smile against his shoulder, right where their soulmark was.
Two bunnies (one white and one black) curled around each other, the same position they fall into as soon as they hit the mattress.

#xiantober Day 15: Sentient Burial Mounds
CW // canon MCD
The thing people don't talk about is the fact that the Burial Mounds isn't just a haunted place where souls are trapped.
No.
The Burial Mounds is a landborne abyss.
It is a thing in and of itself.
And it hungers.
The sects worked hard setting wards to trap it in place. Keep it from growing larger and consuming towns filled with people.
The wards work.
But only because the abyss is consistently appeased by human sacrifice.
The Wen and Jin periodically drop sacrifices into the mounds.
The other sects don't know about this.
But that is the only reason the wards hold. The abyss—the Burial Mounds—get fed just enough to not break free.
It's the lazy way out, really. It's the cruel way out.
The Wen and Jin choose random civilians and toss them in.
The abyss formed after long years of battle and war caused countless deaths of cultivators and civilians alike, right where the Burial Mounds are. It formed, it grew, it hungered.
The Burial Mounds aches for freedom. It aches to consume.
And then Wen Chao threw Wei Wuxian in.
Everything changed.
For so long, it had craved the succulence of a cultivator. It sensed Wei Wuxian was strong.
But something about that was wrong.
Something was missing.
The Mounds reached for him, clawed at him, hungered for him. It was curious. It hungered.
But Wei Wuxian fought back, broken and fractured as he was. He fought against it all.
The Burial Mounds found something new that day and it was exciting, exhilarating, entrancing.
Wei Wuxian fought against death with everything he had left. Oh, he was strong despite it all.
It hummed with pleasure and whispered into his ears.
"Do you crave revenge?"
"Do you hate?"
"Do you want power?"
And Wei Wuxian screamed. He accepted the Burial Mounds and the Burial Mounds accepted him.
Oh, how he screamed.
And he fought.
It watched as he grew stronger.
The Burial Mounds built him up—held him together, fractured and hollow—and Wei Wuxian walked out with a mission.
It could not follow, not entirely.
But it was with Wei Wuxian as Wei Wuxian was with it. They were connected as one. Bonded. Moulded into each other.
And Wei Wuxian fought.
So many died and the Burial Mounds consumed. Every death he caused fed the Mounds despite its inability to physically be there.
Oh, how it was pleased.
And Wei Wuxian grew stronger, finding a tool to aid his cause.
And the Burial Mounds fed.
Countless died by Wei Wuxian's corpse army.
Countless were fed to the Mounds.
When the fighting ended, the Mounds were appeased. Content. Burning still, but content to lie in wait.
It was easier for Wei Wuxian to come back home again.
The Mounds eagerly housed them.
And the Mounds eagerly consumed them all.
It felt it—the desperation and unrest.
And it knew.
It would not have to wait long before it fed once more. And it did not mind the wait.
The Burial Mounds allowed them to live inside it for years; a yawning maw primed to snap shut.
When the time came, it was glorious.
So many more died outside, and so many more died inside.
The Mounds gleefully devoured them all.
And when Wei Wuxian finally broke, fracturing completely and letting go, the Mounds took him in as part of itself. It brought him home.

I'm going to try to simplify & respond to three main points that stood out to me under the cut, but TL;DR Torture is Bad
(CW: homophobia mention, guilt-tripping as an example, abuse mention, non-explicit torture mention, death threats / harassment mention)
1. “Discourse is good”
I actually agree with this! I think judging for yourself and discussing what’s right and wrong is vital to growing as a person (as you pointed out). As you also pointed out, there are very harmful practices, especially regarding JC specifically. For context, this post was made after people came into my inbox & notes on my alt against my express wishes talking about how homophobic he is. I’m not against criticizing and discussing him on this blog, but I very clearly did not want to do so on my alt & it did not seem to be in great faith tbh.
Even without the context, however, I think it is fairly obvious that I’m talking about this specific type of discourse? It’s anecdotal and subjective to claim discourse (or any specific types of discourse) is always good or bad, but I’ve found there is a notable reputation among Jiang Cheng antis for… not being great about boundaries and guilt-tripping. Whether or not that’s truly the case or just a misconception, the reputation, in my experience, is pretty well-known and prevalent. It’s a bit weird to assume I’m not discussing this, but it could just be an echo chamber / difference of experience thing & it's easy to clear up
2. “Why do you think people can hate JC without apology, but it’s wrong if [they] hate him on moral basis?”
I did not say that. At all. I purposefully said it was “strange” & that it was okay to like or dislike any character you want without apology. The point I made was about “morality policing,” which I was using to refer to “people [that] tell you that you should hate JC because he’s immoral and generally a horrible person” specifically. It was articulated, even if there was a miscommunication. I even had a different draft of this post where I said, “...certain Jiang Cheng antis are really strange to me…” but changed it because I thought it would be clearer and less antagonistic.
The point of this post was about people who harass others over a fictional character with little-to-no actual care about the real-life harm they may be doing. It’s not about people who simply dislike or hate Jiang Cheng. In my experience, which obviously isn’t an accurate or valid sample of JC discourse as a whole, bad-faith actors (like some JC antis) use horrible things in fictional settings like homophobia and abuse to harass real life people, regardless of the person themselves. The “morality policing” I’m talking about is along the lines of “I can’t believe you like this character - you must be a horrible person” without any consideration for why they might like them or any other factors. As long as they’re “calling out” Bad Things, it doesn’t matter what THEY do themselves. Which is actually important to the next point:
3. “...the comparison between JC’s and WWX’s actions is just false equivalence that completely ignores the context of what is happening.”
Okay, onto the actual JC discourse, I don’t necessarily disagree that their actions aren’t the same, but I would argue that it doesn’t matter if they’re equal - it matters that they’re both “Bad” (which I’m using as a general term for actions, not morality or justification). The action of torture and violence, in my opinion, is always “Bad,” even if justified. He has every right to enact revenge on Wen Chao, but that doesn’t change the fact that the act itself is brutal and cruel & impacts Wei Wuxian himself.
Within the context of the story, the torture of Wen Chao serves as a turning point where Wei Wuxian returns using Demonic Cultivation after giving up his golden core. In some sense, it’s a comeuppance for Wen Chao, yes, but it’s also an integral scene for Wei Wuxian, who has dramatically changed and chosen a path he himself knows is better off not taken. This level of violence from Wei Wuxian is unprecedented, and it is undeniably “bad.” It is a despicable act, even if we, the readers, understand why it’s being done.
And, most importantly, this is a choice that Wei Wuxian makes, albeit possibly under the influence of demonic cultivation. It’s not “harm minimization” or “justice” - it’s clear-cut revenge. He did not have to chase Wen Chao & make him live in terror - he could have killed him immediately. He did not even have to kill him (though I understand why he did) - he could have simply captured him. I don’t understand the idea that “there is no working system that could be executing justice” since I don’t believe that was ever really stated (it’s a war?? there was an entire army???), but Wei Wuxian was not the only person capable of punishing him - it was something he (understandably) chose to do for the sake of revenge.
To take inspiration from this post by @/ineffectualdemon & @/tesria, there’s no reason to justify Wei Wuxian’s revenge as a moral or righteous thing - it was just revenge. It was understandable revenge, but it was still vicious revenge that marked his descent into tragedy. It was fucked up, and there is no context that changes that fact.
“How does this tie into JC antis?” one may ask. The point I am trying to make is that immoral actions by someone “doing the right thing” are still immoral, even if it’s justifiable or necessary. You are still committing that “bad” act. By sending death threats or harassing others, you are still sending death threats or harassing others, regardless of the context, and even if that person is irredeemable to you, that action is still affecting you as a person.
Not to fan the discourse flames, especially since this is mainly a web novel occurrence, but certain people who hate Jiang Cheng purely on moral grounds are really strange to me when you consider what Wei Wuxian did to Wen Chao. "He (allegedly) killed innocent demonic cultivators." "He's ungrateful." "He's homophobic." "He's manipulative and abusive." Okay, but, like, Wen Chao literally ate parts of himself out of madness. Wang Lingjiao bit his penis off. Like or dislike any character you want without apology, but we're well past morality policing rn tbh. It's okay if they're a little fucked up

Is WWX a rapist? I’ve heard it said that when he had WLJ bite off WC’s penis, it was rape because it involved forced penetration for both of them. On the other hand I’ve heard people argue that WWX drove WLJ out of her mind but didn’t direct her actions.

Just had to come to me with this one, huh, nonny?
I'll put this under many tags in the case anyone would just like to skip this over, and I will leave this as ample warning. And any of you come here looking for a fight about any of this, I will fucking block you so don't even think of asking me this sort of thing again.
Hearts and Love *( ̄∇ ̄)*
First, let me at least mark the difference between "gui dao" and "mo dao" as it will be important for the courier station antics.
魔道 (Mo Dao): Lit. Devil's way/path/truth
鬼道 (Gui Dao): The Ghost's/twisted/sly, way/path/truth
心 (Xin) Soul/center/core/heart
心魔 (Xin Mo): Devil, Soul/center/core/heart
鬼 (Gui) lit. A ghost/demon/crafty/cursed
With these in mind, the way Mo Dao is crafted as a cultivator, is that you have to have a center/a core, that is innately tuned to be crafted as evil, hence, a corrupted core. To use real mo dao, it needs to come from within to manipulate, not from outer external references, it is the corruption of the self and the still living to craft evil beings.
To use real gui dao, it comes from the dead, the ghosts and the supernatural, in other words not of much of the self. It is using the outside forces of death and non-living beings to use techniques. It is simply using what already existed before to craft an entity.
Now, on to the Wang Lingjiao and Wen Chao scenes and why these distinctions are important and it was just Wei Wuxian manipulating the two's already heightened paranoia's to exasperate the negative energy they fostered between themselves.
1:
In that moment, as soon as she opened the chest, she was able to peer inside.
It was none of her beloved treasures, but the body of a pale, curled-up child!
2:
She snuck within the room once again, found a long clothing pole, and flipped the chest over. Inside of it, her treasure sat peacefully.
There was no child whatsoever.
Wang Lingjiao sighed in relief. With the pole in her hands, she squatted down. Just as she was about to brace herself, she suddenly realized that two bright spots were shining underneath her bed.
It was a pair of eyes.
That pale child from before lay prone under her bed, staring into her own.
3:
As he turned around, the rest of what he wanted to say stuck within his throat. He was staring at a woman in front of his door.
The woman’s features were broken, as though they had been smashed and then pieced together haphazardly. Her eyes stared in two different directions; the left upward and the right downward. Her entire face was horrendously disfigured.
Wen Chao, with some difficulty, was able to recognize her from her scanty robe. It was Wang Lingjiao!
4:
Still on the ground, Wang Lingjiao immediately picked up one of the stools legs, and frantically, she began stuffing it into her mouth, laughing all the while, “Fine, fine, I’ll eat it, I’ll eat it!
Haha, I’ll eat it!”
She had already stuffed a significant length of the stool leg down her throat!
Remember, that just before these confrontations Wang Lingjiao had already assumed that Wen Chao's time was up as well as she herself making plans to run away. They had already turned on each other, as she was planning to move on to a more prospective target, and he wanting her out of the way as an annoyance.
As such, both have created a negative space for themselves, also, remember all of the talismans for protection that they had placed on the outside of the courier station, and their effects which had been reversed by Wei Wuxian. Their 风水(geomancy) physically and mentally has been disordered. Their harmony is broken. Thus, they have cultivated an outside force for Wei Wuxian to manipulate and turn the two against each other.
The above scenes are simply the inner hell they created from their own paranoia and negativity they trapped themselves in. Wei Wuxian only had to change a few character strokes on the protective talismans to sic them on each other while he was on the outside looking in.
5:
Wen Chao cried sharply in pain. It sounded piercing within the silence of the courier station.
Jiang Cheng asked, “Why is his voice so pitched?”
Wei Wuxian responded, “Of course it would sound like that with a certain something gone."
Jiang Cheng replied in disgust, “You’re the one who took it? ”
Wei WuXian said, “It’s wretched if you think that. Of course I wasn’t the one who took it. It was bitten off by his woman when she went mad."
There is no reason for Wei Wuxian to lie here, he has already proudly admitted to his tortures of Wen Chao before hand and his physical abuse against him and Wen Zhuliu. Wei Wuxian's entire persona here was meant to be cruel and monstrous and he continued further torture of course, but it was added on to the existing abuse that Wen Chao and Wang Lingjiao cultivated together already.
So, no, anon, Wei Wuxian was not a rapist in any capacity here. He simply played dirty tricks to make these two ruin each other even more by themselves.

part 3 | part 4 | part 5
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You awoke, opening your eyes slowly with the raising light through the paper windows. It was full of chaos and your mind was confused at what was happening before you. Then, you were reminded of what had happened last night: the memory of being intimate with Lan Wangji. Fresh—it still was, the way his lips moved against your own, along with his possessive statements. And then you shifted a little, and there, by your bed, was Lan Wangji, looking at you with his eyes wide open. Is his face serene, or does tension come off him in waves, that type of feeling that makes you almost feel afraid and anxious for his next action?. "Lan Wangji," you murmured uncertainly with a voice so soft, yet seeming so constant you might have sighed, "I have been thinking. I want to go look for my siblings." "No," he said with a force of finality that seemed nearly on par with steel. "That is too dangerous." You sat up, meeting his eyes. But there was still evidence in you that you held fear. "I just need to know if they'll be okay. Wen Qing and Wen Ning are family to me. I can't just sit here when they're literally in danger." The face of Lan Wangji was without expression, yet a certain intensity in the air was picked up that you could deeply feel, continuing down your spine in a tremor. "Your safety is most valued," he said, low and controlled. "I cannot let you take a risk like that." "I'll have to get someone to come look after them," he bargained, anger starting to flow from him as well. "I can't be left to go with. I know it's dangerous, but I HAVE to do this." His eyes seemed to darken, the intensity he had displayed the previous night flashed back on, though he stayed speaking in a low tone. "And I can't let you go alone. You mean too much to me." You blinked at him, annoyed, worried, and feeling something else that was in no way justifiable. "Lan Wangji, I am thankful for everything that you've done for me, but I'm not a child. I can take care of myself."
"You aren;'t nobody," he whispered, his voice low yet fully firm with a touch of possessiveness. "You, I cannot afford to lose." His words sent chills down your spine, yet you reasoned with yourself. "I didn't say that you let me go by myself," you said halfway, meeting him in the middle. "I just really need to do this, so badly. Please let me go, but come with me." "If I go with you," he finally gave in; his voice brooked no argument, "then I can make sure you're safe.". You gave a very slow nod, at least relieved that the fact would be looked into. "Thanks," you breathed, full of the most sincere of voices possible. "I swear I'll be careful."
Tumblr media
The path that took place in order to find siblings—Wen Qing and Wen Ning—had all been very tense, and at every moment, Lan Wangji had never left your side. It almost frightened you, how he never left your side, you never had a moment of privacy. BUt, finally, after days of searching, you found them in Yiling—all hidden from the Sunshot Campaign. You hugged Wen Qing and Wen Ning, relief is inseparable from floods of tears, both of happiness and sorrow, at seeing them again. Lan Wangji had stopped a few feet from you, the gaze from his eyes never breaking from yours. Immobile, his face had been impassive and emotionless, but something in him, in the way he kept his body so ridged had seemed to speak volumes. He was watching you reunite, but something in his gaze felt dark. After a moment, you turned to Lan Wangji with a heavy heart over the decision you knew you were going to have to make. "Lan Wangji," you started, your voice trembling slightly. "I want… to stay with them." Something dangerous crossed over his features and his eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?" he asked, lowering his voice to a meagre level. You drew a deep breath, trying to collect your nerves. "They need me here, Wangji. They are alone and they are in danger. I can never leave them again. I want to be in Yiling and stay with them. The silence that followed could have been said to be deafening. His eyes took on a shade of darkness and his expression contracted. "You want to leave me," he thought, unfeeling, only the tension in the tone is clear. You shook your head, now filling with tears. "It's not about leaving you. It's about my family. They need me, Lan Wangji. I cannot leave them again." His jaw tightened, and he advanced another half step, his presence oppressive for the first time. "You are supposed to be with me," he said, his voice cold and possessive. "You cannot stay here. It's too dangerous." You flinched at the almost bellowed ferocity of his tone, but you stood your ground. "They are my family, Lan Wangji. I have to make it up to them. I need to help them."
The look in his eyes grew darker, his calm composure replaced with something far more unsettling, something that scared you to your core, it rattled your peace. "No," he replied sharply. "I will not allow it. You are coming back with me." Your heart pounded with heated sound in your chest, your eyes meeting his, and a shiver ran down your back at the cold look in his eye. "Lan Wangji, please understand. I can't, after all that, just leave them. They need me." "And I need you," he shot back, his voice rising with a rare, almost frightening intensity. "You are mine, Wen {Birthname}. You cannot stay here." "You are mine," he said again, but this time his words stunned you. The ownership of his tone. It had you at a loss.
"Lan Wangji," you whispered, and the sound of your own voice was shaking. "This is not proper. You cannot just… have me this way." He came even closer, his hand reaching out to clutch your arm—not painfully but in a way you could not pull away. "You are not leaving me," he hissed with a menacing voice. "I will not let you." Your heart raced, and although fear and confusion swirled inside you, nowhere upon his face could you meet his eyes and see the depth of his obsessions, the intensity of his need to keep you beside him at all costs. "Lan Wangji—" you tried to reason with him, but he cut you off. "If you stay here," he warned, his voice dangerously calm, "you will be in constant danger. I cannot protect you here. You should be with me, where I can protect you." You shook your head as tears spilled down your cheeks. "But they're my family… I can't just leave them." His fist tightened slightly, his eyes burning with possession not to be disputed. "You are coming with me," he said, the words clearly implacable, with no room for argument in his voice. "I shall not lose you."
Before you even fully registered what was happening, a strong hand shook around your arm as Lan Wangji pulled you away from your siblings. YOur eyes widened at his unexpected action, you had never expected Lan Wangji, second son to the head of the Lan's to get physical with you. His grip was firm and you could already feel a bruise forming. "Lan Wangji, no!" you cried out again and tried to pull back, yet his grip did not yield.
Because he was resolute, he wasn't going to let go of you, he wasn't even planning to do so. "You're coming with me," he repeated, low and even, a possessive edge in his tone with made you realise that he wouldn't be letting go. Your heart thudded loud in your chest, and you were panting against him, "What can I do but not leave them?" you exclaimed, your voice strangled with sadness. "They are my family—Wangji—I belong here, with them! But the words seemed to fall on deaf ears for he only paid no heed, dragging you away. "You belong with me and will come back to Gusu with me, where it is safe," his eyes gleamed with possessiveness. Now, terror surged in you full force with the realisation of what he had meant. He had not only taken you back to Gusu, but to his world, back to a life within which you were going to be shut inside between the tight rules and scrutinies of the Lan clan, a life in which you would have to follow the three thousand rules of the code of conduct that extended absolutely everywhere within the Cloud Recesses. "No!" you screamed as you dug your heels into the ground. "I won't go back! I don't want to live with those rules! I want to stay here, with my family! With Jiang Cheng!" With the mention of Jiang Cheng's name, Lan Wangji's eyes began to darken, grip on your arm tightening. A shiver went through your body since that silent, calm expression he always wore was cracking, and what truly lay beneath was one of possession. "You are mine," he said in a low, hazardous soft voice. "You belong to me—not Jiang Cheng, not anybody.". You could feel it in his gaze, the one of a heartache man, that desire just to have you by his side. "Wangji, please," you would plead, tears running down your face. "I don't want this. I don't want to be tied down with those rules. I don't want to live a life here where I can't be with my family, where I can't be free." "You'll be safe there, in Gusu," he said, the hand that gripped harder to yours tightening. "I will protect you, and we are going to be together. That's all that matters."
"No." You shook your head. "But what about what I want?" You croaked, your voice shaky with emotion. "What about my freedom? My family? The face of Lan Wangji relaxed, and you could see something like guilt or regret gleam in his eyes, though it was soon cloaked once more by that same bone-chilling determination that had driven him to this. "Your safety is more important than anything else," he said, his voice soft but firm. "Though you do not understand this now, one day you will and you will thank me for it.". With that, he pulled you closer—the grip on your arm unremitting. "We are going back to Gusu," he said; the tone of his voice allowed no room for dispute. "And once we are there, we will marry. You will be safe, and we will be together." There was a surety in his voice that sent a chill down your spine. You knew there was no escape from this, you couldn't talk him out of it. That urge of Lan Wangji toward you had reached to such a point that he didn't care for anything, not your wishes, not freedom, not family. The only thing that mattered was you were his, and nothing would stop him from doing what it takes to keep you by his side. Your heart felt a thousand times heavier with the portent of what was to come as he carried you away from your siblings. You managed to twist your head back just in time to see the forlorn expressions etched on the faces of Wen Qing and Wen Ning, their helplessness in this situation clear before your eyes.
You wanted to scream, to fight, to do anything in order to prevent this, but Lan Wangji's hand was tight, powerfully strong, and it left you with none of your own.
You were helpless.
