Sunday was my 31st birthday. What a whirlwind this year has been. ⁣ ⁣ Turning 31 + The Pandemic has forced me to do some some deep emotional excavation and I want to share some reflections:⁣ ⁣ 💖 Every moment is what you make it. If you lead with empathy, curiosity, and fun, you’ll have a really rewarding life. ⁣ 💖 Every moment is temporary. Every situation, every hardship, every celebration - it’s all temporary. So when things are going well, embrace it! Have a freaking blast. When things are shit, they will get better. Eventually. You can’t have a rainbow without a little rain 🌈⁣ 💖 Stay Creative. Creativity = Happiness. Creativity is a lifeline. Creativity is your connection to your inner child. Be. Creative. ⁣ 💖 Jealousy can tell you so much about yourself. Be aware of who you are jealous of and why. It will teach you so much about your needs/wants/desires deep down. ⁣ 💖 Move your body in ways that make you feel good, always 🥰⁣ 💖 Do the things that make you happy! ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ P.S. Here is my official post of approval for Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk! 👏🏼👏🏼⁣ ⁣ Guess we can retire #HeatherforSheHulk 😂😂⁣ ⁣ Anyway, to start, I’m not *super* familiar with her work. I do KNOW about her role in Orphan Black and I know she MUST be talented to pull of so many different types of characters. Plus all the punchy kicky in that show! I am moving it to the top of my to-watch list! ⁣ ⁣ However, I did re-read all the Hunger Games books at the start of quarantine via Audiobook and she’s the Audible narrator! This re-read brought me much solace and her performance was amazing. I’m glad that I got a sneak peek into her talent in this way. ⁣ ⁣ I cannot wait to see what she does with my favorite character. How to have the confidence of She-Hulk 💪🏼⁣ ⁣ So, in my Geeknasium community I just did a training on how to have more confidence. But one thing from that training that keeps coming up is HOW. TO. TRUST. YOURSELF. ⁣ ⁣ A huge part in having confidence is trusting yourself and your abilities. One way I personally struggle with trusting myself is with decision making.⁣ ⁣ I’ve told myself my whole life that I’m “bad at making decisions.” I’m a Libra, so it’s part of our personality to “weigh all options” but my lack of trust in myself has led me down a path of people pleasing and NOT being my truest self. ⁣ ⁣ So many of us have stories inside our heads that we tell ourselves... and those stories ARE NOT TRUE. ⁣ ⁣ I was only BAD at making decisions because I TOLD myself I was bad at making decisions. ⁣ ⁣ So now, whenever a big decision comes up, I give myself a deadline to decide. If it’s something HUGE, the deadline is longer, if it’s something small like “what do I want for dinner, I make the decision right then and there and don’t let myself think on it at all. ⁣ ⁣ You have to DECIDE to be DECISIVE. ⁣ ⁣ What’s something you’ve been telling yourself that might not be true? Think of something you can do today that will help you combat that story in your head. How can you grow trust and confidence in yourself today and every day? ⁣ ⁣ This is something we work on in the Geeknasium Membership! And society doesn’t make it any easier to live based on your:⁣ 👨🏼‍🦽 Disability ⁣ ✊🏾 Skin Color⁣ 🏳️‍🌈 Who You Love⁣ 🚺 Gender⁣ 🚻 How You Identify ⁣ 🧕🏽 Religion⁣ 👘 Culture ⁣ ⚖️ Weight ⁣ ⁣ (^ the list goes on)⁣ ⁣ If you experience societal privilege, it’s your job to help BREAK the barriers that make life harder for marginalized groups. ⁣ ⁣ And here’s how you can do that: ⁣ 1️⃣ If a marginalized group is complaining about their quality of life - LISTEN. ⁣Just because it doesn’t affect you personally, doesn’t mean it’s not important. 2️⃣ Use what you’ve learned by LISTENING to see what you can do to help. ⁣ 3️⃣ Stand up for marginalized groups! This can look like anything from publicly speaking out against discrimination to signing the petition to get the law passed. ⁣ 4️⃣ Amplify the marginalized voice. Use whatever privilege you have to help their voices be heard. ⁣ 5️⃣ Take action. Be it big or small. It is important that marginalized groups know we are here for them.
