The Heroes of Olympus: The Son of Neptune - Rick Riordan

I absolutely love this series. I love Jason, but I didn't realise how much I missed Percy! His heroic yet useless devil-may-care attitude. He's the dictionary definition of "troublemaker".

It's been a while since I read the original series, so there were some references that I really had to rack my brains to dredge up, but mostly they were still there, rattling around in my brain somewhere.

There were so many classic Percy Jackson moments. I loved Percy's dawning horror as he realises one of his Dad's other kids is a horse. I love how self conscious he is, feeling like an idiot wearing a toga, despite being both cool and buff. I love his Comfy Panda Pillow Pet (as seen on tv) and I was devastated when it got cut open.

It was such a shock when Nico showed up. He spends the first book promising Annabeth that he's searching for Percy, and then he just rocks up at Camp Jupiter like, "oh hey, uhhhh Percy, is it? Nice to meet you for the first time, have fun with your amnesia." Absolutely iconic behaviour, he's such a little asshole.

I love Frank and Hazel. Great additions to the team, I definitely like them just as much as Leo and Piper. I am very excited for the seven of them to get together for their quest!

When Percy recognised Hazel's photo of "Sammy", I absolutely did not twig who it might be! I'm super curious to find out what's going on with all that.

And I like that Tyson's got himself a Harpy girlfriend. I like that monsters don't always turn out to be monsters in these books. And they both talk about themselves in third person, which is fun.

And reading this has sent me on a spending spree. As well as buying a new copy of the books (to replace to super ugly ones I got for free), I did also buy myself... a Comfy Panda Pillow Pet (as seen on tv). I'm so ashamed, and I have zero regrets.

Genocide flattens every discussion. There are no new conversations to be had about the destruction, death and cruelty. After more than a year, there is nothing left to be said about various media houses, corporations and international bodies of law aiding and abetting all that has been happening in Gaza, either. It is the banality of evil, it is colonialism. However even in this atrociously banal circumstance, I do think what still is a continued point of hope for Gazans and what still pushes so many of them to reach out to the world, is the support people around the globe have shown and still continue to show. Which is why I am here on behalf of the Shehab family ( @fahedshehab-new ) and requesting  you to help them survive through this winter. This won't take much of your time so please read: 

Fahed is currently supporting 13 family members in total- his own family and that of his sister’s.

He has to look after 8 children now, with the youngest being his son Yayha who is barely having anything to eat because the price of baby milk  is exorbitantly high in Gaza. 

The genocide has taken a toll on Fahed’s daughters. Sahar and Dana spent a whole year under the threat of bombs and right now instead of getting to be teenagers, they ask their father if they will survive. They have even said they don't want to live if they lose someone. 

The family right now immediately needs clothes to keep them warm throughout winter. Fahed’s family is from the north and has been displaced several times before they came south. Displacement is dangerous and a silent killer because often essential items are lost and cannot be replaced in time. 

Please consider that the weather has already turned colder around the world and that which is only mildly uncomfortable to us, presents a dire situation for Gazans. The families don't have a shelter and there is no way for tents to adequately protect from cold winds and rain. So right now the immediate need is for warm clothes and it can cost upto $400 per person. With THIRTEEN PEOPLE to take care of Fahed immediately needs to raise at least 5k to buy the required apparels. So please boost and donate.

Hello Dear

My name is Tahseen Khazendar from G@@7_@, P@1_e$tine . As you are reading my message, my wife, 3 little children, and I are sitting in the north of G@@7_@ City, starving with no food, water, or money. Specially my older son, Ibrahim, who suffers from the Celiac disease and needs a special food which I am not able to provide for him at this current time in G@@7_@. Yousef's young son Majd suffers from a severe respiratory illness. Unfortunately, he and his family are currently trapped in Gaza, and are unable to access the proper medical treatment for Majd to heal and breathe freely.

Before the war began, Yousef (@saveyouseffamily), his wife, and his son Majd lived peacefully in Gaza. However, after the war started, he and his family were forced to flee their home to escape bombing, and now live in a tent.

Majd desperately needs to evacuate with his family, so that he can get the medical care he needs.

I've already made two posts about these families so far linking to their GoFundMe's, but despite the traction, that didn't equal much sizeable progress.

The families in question are:

Momen Al Ostaz's family: a family of 10 people in the Gaza Strip, trapped without food, water, or proper supplies and most of them require some form of medical intervention due to stress or diseases like Hep C caused by poor conditions. His campaign is at €16,634 out of its €70,000 goal. (#125 on the vetted spreadsheet) [Link]

Abdullah Ameen's family: Abdullah is a man living currently in the Nuseirat camp with his family of four - him, his wife, his son, and newborn daughter. He has later amended his campaign to evacuate his sisters and his mother from Gaza as well. His campaign was created back in late April, but has still not reached its goal of €35,000, only having raised €5,223. (#134) [Link]

Doaa's family: Doaa is a Gazan woman whose family is currently trapped in Khan Yunis. Her campaign is attempting to raise enough money to evacuate her sisters and their families into Egypt creating a total of THIRTEEN family members that need to get through the border. The campaign is way below its goal, having only raised $3,361 of 65,000. (Shared by 90-ghost) [Link]

Mahmoud Nedal's family: A family of 6 - him, his older brother, his parents, his 6-year-old sister, and 2-year-old brother. The campaign's raised only $3,279 of its 50,000 goal. (#123) [Link]

These campaigns are all extremely urgent! These people are trapped in inhospitable conditions without proper access to the essentials to life! Can you imagine having to put you and your family's lives into the hands of strangers who have only ignored you?

The GoFundMe's listed here have not garnered any traction whatsoever, and donations have been quite stagnant. I intend to not let this happen by whatever means I have.

Let's raise up to 8,000 for the last three campaigns and raise 4,000 for the first within the next 5 days!

Abdullah Ameen resides in the Nuseirat camp with his wife and two extremely young children; the older being only one, the youngest being a newborn. The ongoing genocide makes it far too dangerous and difficult for Abdullah and his wife to raise their children securely and safely. He has also recently amended his campaign in order to evacuate his mother, who is injured with a pelvic fracture, and sisters.

His campaign began in April, yet it has received only a fraction of its goal of €35,000 throughout the past five months. His family must be evacuated urgently, especially since he is with a newborn child and his injured mother, who is unable to visit a doctor.

Hello! Please help Mona and her family!

I'm writing this post to bring attention to Mona (@monayazji) and her family's campaign. Their young family comprises of Mona, her husband Yousef (@yousefalyazjii1), and their son Alaa.

This campaign has been vetted by gazavetters (#87 in the list) and gaza-evacuation-funds (#3 in the post). As of the time of writing, their campaign currently only has kr24,289 SEK raised out of the kr200,000 goal (12% funded), with only 6 donations from the last 24 hours.

Her son currently has bad skin irritation very likely caused by their current living conditions (environment, water and sanitation, etc). He is only 1 year old, and this sort of irritation could get very distressing to such a young child, and even more so with a pretty widespread involvement such as in Alaa's case. Medications, along with everything else in Gaza, have become very expensive, add to that the also high cost of milk and diapers which he would need daily.

Please consider donating especially if your currency is strong. If you cannot, please share Mona's campaign. URGENT! Please help save Majd and his family!

Youssef and his wife have a son named Majd. Last year, they were displaced to Rafah following the beginning of the Israeli onslaught on Ghazzah. Life in the tents is extremely difficult, and resources are scarce.

Tragically, Majd has come down with an extremely severe respiratory illness which puts his life in danger. He is unable to breathe well anymore and desperately needs treatment which cannot be accessed within Ghazzah.

In order for Majd to get the treatment he needs and for him and his family to evacuate, they need to raise €30,000. So far, they've only raised €26,896; they're very close, however they've only had one donation in the last 14 hours.

Please help them however you can; donate if you're able and share their campaign. Majd's life depends on it.

My name is Shatha, a mother of three children from Gaza 🍉🇵🇸, living through extremely harsh conditions. We have been displaced over 15 times, searching for safety, but to no avail. I have two daughters, Toleen (6 years) and Layan (2 years), and my young son Walid (3 years), who was born with a disability and is unable to walk. I will keep it short, since time is of essence here and it would be better to act now than later:

On November 6 2024, Suad ( @suad-khaled ) updated her gofundme and wrote that she has not been able to provide her newborn son with either milk or baby formula. The blockage imposed by the occupation has resulted in high inflation rates, and Suad has not been able to buy anything nourishing for a long time. As of now baby Khaled is having to drink rice water as a substitute.

Every basic necessity for childcare has shot up in price ( a pack of diapers can cost as high as $50 USD). This is impossible to afford, and children are falling ill, when families are having to make do with cheap and expired products. Khaled suffered from diarrhea last month after drinking cheap baby formula.

Another important thing is that Khaled needs regular medical attention. He is suffering from painful chest infections due to breathing in toxic debris dust and asbestos that is now present in the air of Gaza Strip after more than year of incessant bombing by the occupation forces. Khaled, who is only five months old needs daily nebulizing sesssions and other medicines which are expensive.

Suad is trying her very best to save her child but tumblr keeps shadowbanning her and thus makes it difficult to reach out to people on here for help. So please follow Suad on her blog and pay attention to her posts. Things have been especially difficult for her, often with no donations coming in for days. Everything costs tenfold now and Suad writes: I am, trying to give my child some small sense of security in the midst of chaos. I can’t help but wonder, is $20 too much to ask to keep him alive?  For a child who’s already suffering from malnutrition, a small donation could mean the difference between life and death...

URGENT HELP 🙏

Hi! I'm Mohammed Al-Habil,31 years old. I have a family of 3 members.

I'm from Gaza but I've got displaced so many times from Gaza. I've got injured in the first week of this ongoing war, since that time I've been forced to leave my home to UNRWA center as a shelter. The nightmare hasn't finished, my dad has got killed in the fourth month of the war, leaving my mum and two sisters so we've taken responsibility of them in addition to my family.

This nightmare "war" has taken everything, my dad, my work, my belongings, my home which has been destroyed, my peaceful life, my peace of mind, everything!

We live in extremely hard circumstances. We have no water, no healthy food, no electricity, no healthy place, no source of money, no health care, nothing!

We live in an unhealthy environment full of diseases. I live in a tent that neither protects us from sunshines nor protects us from rain. I've faced so many diseases including hepatitis and viral infection "causing fever" due to unhealthy food and environment. The food we eat is canned food although it is unhealthy and expensive.

We are about to face famine, even vegetables are extremely expensive and we can hardly find them.

In addition to that, my wife has faced hepatitis due to dirty bathrooms and unhealthy environment we live in.

In addition to that my little son, 2 years and 10 months old, has had an operation in his eyes. In brief, my life has become a miserable nightmare!
