In order to live in dorms at uni and get mental health treatment I needed to give my teacher (who was also my counselor) Chorizo, but I only had Cumberland sausage slices.
My justification? “They both start with the letter c.”

This article was one of the most blatant racism I've seen from this industry in a while. Utterly disgusting that this was able to be written, reviewed AND published. Lewis has brought so much positivity and arguably the BIGGEST diversified audience to Formula One. Fans old and new love what Lewis brings to the sport’s culture, how intelligent he is, how kind and how generous he is, how committed to change he is. Everyone from top to bottom who have worked personally of Lewis say he’s about the shit he speaks about. He knows the sport. HE. IS. THE. SPORT. So to sit on this internet with your sagging cumberland sausage fingers and flat faced oompa lompa looking self to say some vile shit like this about Lewis was a choice. A horrible one.
I cannot WAIT until Lewis retires and leaves these ungrateful cum guzzlers in the DUST!
#lewis hamilton#formula one#RANT#the racism will never end#time and time again some low life will come out to diminish Lewis’s achievements#racism in formula one#f1

We did Autumn Equinox dinner tonight as I was busy last night. I made the Cumberland sausage, apple and cider casserole and colcannon from the Michaelmas and Halloween chapters of Porters Seasonal Celebrations Cookbook.
Our oven isn’t working properly right now so I adapted the recipe for the sausage for the stove top. I doubled the liquid ingredients and at the end thickened it with cornstarch and it made a nice gravy.

"Prince William County (PWC) is named after the Duke of Cumberland, the youngest son of George II."
......don't tell anyone Scottish that PWC is named after butcher Cumberland. They'll react very negatively. Google Culloden 1745......or if you can't be bothered, watch the first series of Outlander. The English troops were under the command of Butcher Cumberland. And what he did to Scotland after that battle is a stain on his name. Scots had to submit or were butchered hence his nickname, press ganged to work on navy ships or imprisoned. And if they were lucky, they were exiled to the colonies.
The Scottish settlements in North Carolina were founded by Scottish exiles following Culloden.
All Scottish culture was banned for the nest 75yrs until George 4 decided to go to Scotland in 1822 and a team of Scottish heritage nostalgia historians recreated a new version of Scotland complete with new songs, new traditional dress tartans - those kilts.
There are reasons still feel some way about the English and Butcher Cumberland is top of the list.
The only positive thing about Butcher Cumberland is that they named a sausage after him because he was so fat he looked like stuffed sausage.
****
Not gonna lie, I keep seeing Benedict Cumberbatch’s face every time I read “Butcher Cumberland.”
I have seen the first couple of seasons of Outlander — so I love knowing a little bit more of the backstory now!

Thank you for the tag @adoresbenho and @go-catch-a-chickn!
Last song: Things to Do – Alex G
Favorite colour: Probably blue and greyish green
Last movie/show: I can’t remember the same but it’s this really shitty bodyswap movie where this family switches bodies and a kid nicknames his friend Elon after Elon fucking Musk (actually gagged).
Currently watching: Rewatching Don’t Hug Me, I’m Scared :)
Sweet/spicy/savoury: Sweet and savoury, I have such a bad spice tolerance. I can barley eat Cumberland sausages lmao
Relationship status: Single and absolutely not looking for love
Current obsession: TMR, but aren’t I always obsessed with TMR?
Last thing I googled: light-headedness, vertigo, hot – most of my symptoms, I think I’m coming down with something :(. Google said I either had low blood sugar, heat exhaustion (despite it being February) or a heart attack (which is a little concerning, considering I have a heart condition). I think I’m gonna take the low blood sugar and eat some ice cream or something lol.
No pressure tags: @hope92100 @bellzsad @its-tea-time-darling + anyone else who'd like to join :)

Oh my God it has recipes for english sausages too. American sausages suck so will definitely have to try and make some good sausages
Made one rather expensive purchase today.
Well expensive for what it is really.
But I saw it and after about 5 minutes of deliberating I just couldn't say no.
My newest cookbook:
#Cumberland and Lincolnshire sausages#both are so good#i also like this book because it has the meaures in grams and ounces and even cups too#plus england and america call stuff different names sometimes and it puts the america name in parentheses#like coriander (cilatro) and rocket (arugula) and ond I didnt know swede (rutabega)

user emptyhalf good day. what is an english dish that is surprisingly tolerable. pls state it for the record
you know there are a few things that the uk gets bang on. not a lot but some. one is sausages. sorry to france and spain and whatever but no one out there is making a common or garden sausage like the british. most british food is frankly sub-par and indicates an impoverished nation not the peak of western decadence but the british sausage? with the british gravy and the british mashed potato? they are literally cooking with this.
other places have dried or preserved sausages like chorizo and that down. nduja, that sort of business. but that's not a dirty great banger you can slap in a sandwich is it. not the sort of overprocessed homogenised meat tubes my homeland (and many others) attempt to pass off as sausage, not a fucking hot dog, not even a wurst, which is not the same at all, the british sausage is the perfection of the medium. even really bad british sausages (the type that are like 25% 'meat products' and come in a pack of 8 sad, beige sticks squished together from the value range) are actually fucking tasty. big juicy ones that burst open on a barbecue dripping fat into the charcoal. the rustic cumberland whirl and its metropolitan cousin, the wimpy big bender. chipolatas. pigs in blankets. don't actually eat all that much meat and the uk's market for vegan sausages is also top notch, fuckin love a meat free richmond. lord knows richmond have been making sausages with very little meat in them for time anyway. battered. sausage. from. the. chippy.
whack 'em in some mash. do onions if you're fancy. perhaps put them in between two big crusty slices of tiger loaf with some mustard. put them in pasta. you can even have them with rice it's the uk food crimes can't be reported.
other thing is uk can do scones. can't fault 'em there. dunno if my life would be any poorer without scones and can't say i eat them often but when i do i know it's going to fuck.

Molly, northerner here and I was already excited when I saw the reference to the M1, so I’m even more excited to hear there will be more references for us! I was already super looking forward to the story, but this has put my excitement and anticipation level up to 11 (from 10.5…)
I’m glad you’re excited!
There’s not heaps of references but there’s a few locales mentioned that you might recognize!
My Dad’s from Blackhall Colliery near Newcastle and my parents actually met working in Carlisle at the hospital so when I needed Kate and Anthony to go on a long drive I was looking for some places that seemed familiar!
I was going to make a joke about a Cumberland sausage and Anthony but I decided against it 😂
Kate and Anthony arguing about whether to take the M6 or the M1 it peppered throughout the entire fic so I’m glad it’s giving someone joy 😂
If you choose to imagine Anthony as a gruff Cumbrian lad with the accent to match: excellent work.
If you aren’t familiar with Carlisle, please look it up! It’s a beautiful city full of architecture from the Middle Ages and beyond!

I used the sausage goulash recipe you recently posted for dinner tonight (alas no photos, as it was consumed with alacrity) and the household is in concurrence that it should be added to the regular rotation of hearty winter meals; thanks for taking the time to write it up!
Thanks for the feedback (heh) and I'm delighted that you and your household enjoyed it. :-D
*****
@dduane suggested I make it for us tomorrow (36th anniversary) as a cosy homey sort of thing. *
I might, and if so, I'm thinking of adding some sausages we bought from our local butcher at the weekend, and which featured in the Ulster Fry photoshoot.
They're a version of Cumberland style, with black and white pepper rather than traditional sage and parsley, and should add a nice additional layer to the paprika / caraway spice of the goulash, while contrasting with the smokiness of the Continental sausages.
Hint: most Irish-British sausages are made with finely-minced meat and are a bit "squishy" in their raw state; a few minutes of frying or grilling makes them firm enough for slicing.
The problem with really good ones like these is having enough restraint that they survive to become an ingredient.
Hint 2: cook a couple of extra sausages for nibbling, so the rest are (hopefully) left alone...
*****
* On the other hand, we might just go to a restaurant and let someone else do all the work - including the washing-up.
Originally we'd intended to get married on St Valentine's Day, but Boskone had programmed DD to teach a writer's workshop.
This has turned out for the best on many occasions - a snap decision to go restauranting (if it wasn't a word before, it is now) without a reservation on St Val's is likely to end in disappointment, while the day after...? No problems!

So, I've seen people sharing their recipes around recently so I thought I'd share mine for chili dogs!
Keep in mind these are to my British tastes so adjust as you like
4 Cumberland sausages (or any pork sausage will do)
500g mined beef (ground beef)
500ml tomato pasata
A pinch of habanero flakes
1-2 teaspoons of salt and pepper
2 brioche hot dog rolls
2 oz white rum (something like bacardi)
Extra mature cheddar cheese
Sprinkle of garlic, or diced black garlic if you are feeling fancy
And as optional you can add a couple other things
A few diced shiitake mushrooms
Hoisin sauce to taste
Method
OK, so this is a pretty easy recipe (for me to make, your results may vary) preheat the oven to 200°C (392°f for my friends across the pond) and stick the sausages in for 20-25 minutes.
Grab your frying pan and put some olive oil on the bottom, not too much, just enough so the beef doesn't stick, the once hot, add the mushrooms, minced beef, salt, pepper and garlic and let it get nice and brown.
Once all of that has browned and cooked, add the tomato pasata, and don't strain the beef fat. It adds flavour. After the pasata is added, put in the habanero flakes, you can always add more of you like a spicyer chilli dog.
Here is where you will add the hoisin if you like
Let simmer for however long it takes to reduce it and make it nice and thick, roughly 20-25 minutes.
One the sauce is simmering, get the brioche rolls, and cut them so you can put your sausages in once done.
Once you think the sausages are ready take them out of the oven and place 2 in each roll, they should be quite small sausages so that's why I require 2.
Once the chilli has finished simmering, carefully place the rolls on a oven tray and ladle the chilli ontop of them, not adding too much, don't drown the rolls or sausages.
Don't worry if you don't use all the chilli, you can put it in a plastic tub and pop it in the fridge for leftovers.
Once the chilli dogs have been assembled, grate as much cheese as you like over them, then place them into the oven for around 3-5 minutes to crisp up the rolls and melt the cheese.
Once this is done, take them out the oven, plate them up and serve.
This is probably one of my favourite recipies because it's pretty simple and tasty, and as a sonic fan, I fuckin love chilli dogs
Love you all, till next time
