"meiga" means something like "gentle", "sweet" or "docile" in portuguese. does it mean the same in spanish? if not, what is the origin of the cat's name?
Heiyaah! It's not a word in Castilian Spanish, but in Galicia, Meigas are these sort of chaotic-neutral folklore figures. Sometimes seen as witches and sometimes more like medicine women. They can either heal or curse depending on how you treat them. And they are an important part of the region's history and mythology.
I moved here from the other side of the country two months before I got my girl, and wanted her to have a local name ☺️
So that's the origin of it

Random fic rant but while Inuyasha's definitely a softboi and surprisingly devoid of sexism, I feel like a lot of fic authors show their western perspective when it comes to the subject of old timey families. Japan didn't really shut down women until way after Inuyasha's time, ironically due to western influence. In his time it was only fashionable to be demure and ladylike amongst the noblewomen but even then they were praised for being witty or fun at social events and especially towards their husband's superiors and family to make good connections. Lower class women were way more in charge of the household since being in charge of the family and finances was seen as super important and the husband's job was just to work or be away at war. Wives of warriors in particular were expected to be able to defend the household from enemies and got training in wielding Naginata to make up for how they wouldn't be able to overpower a man with brute strength. They often had hidden weapons too, kinda like Sango's, in case of ambush or even as a suicide tool for attempted SA against them.

So while Kaede's village is still considered maybe abnormally matriarchal since there's no head priest, peasant families were less gender divided, if that makes sense. And it's hard to find info on peasants from so far back but I don't think there were any traditional rules on like men being banned from births or anything (cuz I also see that a lot) Even many noblewomen had priests in there to abide by the taboos properly, cuz they were obsessed with that shit like "your vagina must be pointing north and have X amount of feng shui blah blah blah". XD I can't even really blame people though, cuz like I said peasants weren't really documented closely until later when higher ups decided they deserve to be part of history too. I just thought I'd leave some food for thought here.

"I love you"
Goblin, being composed of three different languages and influenced by many others, has multiple verbs for love with varying meanings.
Mitkush (/'mɪt.kʌʃ/) means to love in a casual way. You might say this to a friend you aren't terribly close to, to a particularly cute animal, or about anything that isn't alive.
Shehyeedi (/ʃe.’ji.di/), meanwhile, is extremely serious. You would only say this to someone who you could not live without-- parents and children say it to each other, as do lovers who have or intend to spend their entire lives together and friends who would die for each other.
Drook (/dɾuk/) means to love romantically, specifically.
Shamagem (/'ʃa.ma.gɛm/), also meaning "to worship", means to love or admire your superior. The classic example is how a cleric loves their deity.
Koochna (/'kux.nə/) is the reflection-- to love as a deity loves their cleric. It implies a kind of benevolent superiority.

I've been curious about this for awhile now, and with a re-surge of the "hey you know you tumblr doesn't have an algorithm and you need to reblog things here if you want to see more of stuff and/or support creators" posts I think I'll finally make a poll to test a theory, Which is that: 1) Where you came from before tumblr has a heavy influence on if you reblog posts or not and 2) That the decline in reblogs has come from a influx of users from other social media over the recent years who were conditioned to interact with 'content' in a "more passive consumption, less community-interaction" way. So, whether you reblog posts or not- I want to know where you came from before tumblr
[Clarification: For the purposes of this poll, "do reblog" refers to if you often reblog the posts that you enjoy. This doesn't mean that you reblog every single post that comes on your dash- just that you reblog posts more than you hit the Like button and/or you regularly also reblog posts that you hit the Like button for. If you rarely reblog (i.e: you exclusively hit the Like button on more posts than you reblog, and/or have an empty blog), then please choose "don't reblog"]
Also, obligatory, "Please reblog for larger sample size" Because: science

I desperately need content of Kagome being a miko and doing miko things like participating in Kotodama or the Kagura dance. And Inuyasha's so hypnotized because he's never seen this and she's so perfect and pretty. JUST IMAGINE. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOvVJrdtj1Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpgB-e8iIlE

Goblin Surnames
When a Goblin is born, they take the surname of one of their parents (usually whichever one is considered "cooler" or better suited to the new baby). However, a Goblin does not keep this name for their whole life. Once they develop enough of an identity, they are given a new surname that reflects their most noticeable traits. A surname can also be given after a Goblin does an especially heroic thing. In those cases, they will usually only use their new surname for formal events, and keep their personal surname for everyday use.
Goblin surnames are usually composed of two ideas compounded into one. Common forms include:
Noun + adjective: Nom /nam/ (tooth) + yema /’jɛ.mə/ (red) = Nomyemga /nam.'yɛm.gə/ (red-tooth)
Noun + habitual verb: Fohsi /'fo.si/ (dog) + sayak /sa.'jak/ (talking) = Fohsayak /'fo.sə.,jak/ (dog-talker)
Reduplicated adjective: Visha /'vɪ.ʃə/ (clever, canny, witty) reduplicated = Vishavosha /'vɪ.ʃə.,va.ʃə/ (very witty)
Goblin surnames composed of only one word or idea are very rare, and signify a goblin of truly unique talent, courage, or virtue. These names are often given posthumously or after the named person has suffered a grave injury that will prevent them from performing a similar act. Once a single word is used as a surname, it cannot be used by any other Goblin, even the person's children.

There’s a cultural component to this, too.
When I studied German, the teacher emphasized how German culture has a fairly firm line drawn between Acquaintances (with whom you’re fairly distant) and Friends (with whom you’ve very close). The analogy that came to mind for me was holding someone with your arm; most people are held at arm’s length, as distant as possible, while friends are pulled close for a hug.
This was contrasted with the American (or at least Californian) habit of making it Ambiguous As Hell. We’re often prone to using the word “friend” for anyone whose name and face we know where a better title doesn’t apply, and avoiding the term is a mild insult. But this ostentatious display of ‘friendship’ spread far and wide blankets people’s actual complicated feelings for one another, where “friend” is applied to people from your closest bosom companions for life, to people you really don’t like at all but whom it’d be impolitic to excise from Friend Status. On the plus side, this gives Americans a reputation for affability and... well, friendliness, an ability to quickly form connections in new groups. On the minus side, it can make it hard to really define your relationships to yourself or to others, creating miscommunications and a vague air of... mistrust? Distance? between ‘friends’. In the arm-length analogy, Americans keep almost all people at the distance of a half-bent arm, neither close nor far, often to their detriment. And of course, that official ambiguity (meant to be navigated with unspoken social cues) makes life more difficult for the neurodivergent.
I could probably go further down this line of thought, like with discussions I’ve seen about how the only ‘acceptable’ emotionally intimate relationship most men are allowed is with their significant other, which poisons the relationship by putting too much weight on one other person. But I’ve already, like, doubled the length of this post, so I’ll stop there.
Direct byproduct of being neurodivergent and growing up isolated from your peergroup is having no idea when it's appropriate to define someone as your friend
