The conversation Syd has with Shapiro in 3x10 is of course about the job he offered her but the main questions of the conversation are: Has Syd told Carmy yet? Why hasn't she told Carmy yet? Does she still want to tell Carmy? When is she going to tell Carmy? Then a noncommittal agreement that she will tell Carmy "soon". As much as it's about the job offer, all these questions are about Carmy too. The questions are forcing Syd to think about why she can't just tell him, and deep down she knows why. (S1 Syd wouldn't have hesitated this long to tell Carmy and take the offer, especially since the way he's been treating her in S3 is worse than what made her leave in 1x07. Syd, unlike Carmy, is more aware of the kind of treatment she does and doesn't deserve.)

So we can assume as their conversation comes to a close and Shapiro walks off giving her a minute alone to think, Syd's mind is on Carmy and the reason only she knows, why she hasn't told him.

Well just after Shapiro walks away and Syd has her moment to think Big White Cloud by John Cale plays through the next few shots

(Syd's in a room full of wine bottles, mind you. I don't wanna divert the topic too much but in the table scene, the wall of alcohol bottles is always behind, above and "weighing down" Carmy's side of the table for the entire 5 minute zoom in. The table they're both fixing "their side of" which represents their relationship and them "keeping their side of the street clean." <<Thank you to @yannaryartside for writing this incredible meta! I think the bottles represent Carmy and him being a type of addict, in repeating traumatic patterns, not necessarily an alcoholic.)

The chrous of the song repeats the same lyrics over and over again starting from the last shot of Sydney and ending at the first shot of Carmy, with a Chef Terry & Syd parallel transition scene connecting them.

The lyrics:

I think the song is about more than just Carmy, but I think it's also strongly about Carmy. Especially based on all the questions Shapiro was asking right before it. It's also about the restaurant Syd's been building and everyone working there too, but I think this might be subliminally telling us why Syd hasn't told Carmy yet and why she doesn't want to. She loves the restaurant, she loves the family they've built there together and the most painful, frustrating part that's keeping her from jumping at Shapiro's offer is she loves Carmy.

The Syd and Shapiro scene ends with Syd walking out and if the camera was following her like it follows Chef Terry in the video, we would be seeing Syd's back walk away. Instead the next shot is CT's back walking away. She walks up to this hanging art thing, stops to admire it for a second, then sees Carmy pass behind her and goes to find him.

The Chef Terry transition scene makes it seem like these two scenes of Syd & Carmy aren't connected by this song but the CT scene is a mirror of this scene of Syd looking at the same art earlier in the episode:

In both scenes the art is in the shot first, Syd/Chef Terry walk into the shot, they stop to admire the artwork for a second, (they linger a bit longer in CT's scene to drag out the space between the shots of Syd & Carmy while this song is playing) then they both walk away to find Carmy.

They also walk in the same way. The CT scene is the perspective we would've seen if the camera follwed behind Syd like this when she walked up to the art when she arrived but the camera in Syd's scene is waiting where the scene ends in the hallway that Syd walks down. You can see the same plant in front of the grey wall on the left of CT that's on Syd's left as she walks past, the design on the white wall, the flower arrangement ahead that Syd walks towards etc

The scenes are almost identical, they're just shot from different angles so they look and feel completely different. But imagine if it was Syd in CT's scene, the resulting conversation Chef Terry had with Carmy outside is exactly the kind of open, honest conversation Syd & Carmy need to have.

Also notice Syd walks down the hallway into the restaurant to find Carmy but finds a very absent, unfocused version of him. Chef Terry turns back the way she came and goes out of the restaurant to find Carmy and she finds a more present, attentive version of him. Sydcarmy deperately need to connect outside of work. It was magical when they did in the apartment in 2x02 but then he didn't show up to Kasama and started dating Claire...which shouldn't have been an issue if their connection & story was just about work & friendship!

The song continues to play and as the third "oh I love it" comes in we go to a shot of Carmy with his back to us facing a bright artificial light. (Remember he left Syd behind in the restaurant? Syd is represented by natural light, not artificial light and we know it's likely Carmy goes back to Claire in S4, hence him looking into the artificial light here with his back to the restaurant where Syd is. And maybe coincidence, maybe not, the last line Syd said before the song started playing was "I'm right behind you". Chef Terry, who was just mirrored to Syd, walks up behind him.)

Also the clothes rail on the left looks very similar to the one we saw Sydney picking her chef's coat from in 3x09 while trying to figure out how to break the news to either Carmy or Shapiro and those look like Chef's coats, just like Sydney had on hers.

And I just left the start of the conversation between Carmy & Chef Terry in because it sounds so sydcarmy coded, further making the point that these scenes are connected to their story together.

Chef Terry tells Carmy later in their talk that she's closing the restaurant because she just wants to go out and live life and Carmy seems to think about that and wonder if he could have that too. Considering Carmy's willing to bend over backwards to keep Syd around and doesn't seem to give anywhere near the same energy to anyone else, I'd say he wants to be able to do that with Sydney but doesn't feel like it's possible because she wants a star and he's determined to make her happy, even if that means suffering in the darkest parts of his mind for months just to get it for her.

Do you know who inspired or actually created the banks of video monitors that Lou used when touring in 1976? Also do you have any information about a show did at the Geneva Theater in Geneva, New York in 1976?

Well, the cover of his ‘76 LP, RARH, was designed by Mick Rock, so my best guess it would have been a discussion between the two of them that determined what the tour lighting would look like.

Gut Punched

I feel like we got punched in the gut yesterday and *hard!*  After a crazy month of tests and procedures, we were praying to put this nightmare behind us but sadly that's not the case, just yet!  Dr. Bonczynski called after reviewing her CT Scan with the team and they are in agreement that the mass in her ribs needs to be removed.  What we were praying was a rare hematoma now shows a ring of contrast which means there is a blood supply attached to it. The safest way to make sure it doesn't burst like the other they found is to remove it and biopsy it so we can see what we are facing!  The mass is encapsulated between the ribs so they will need to remove a piece of her rib in front and behind the mass.  Please, please, please continue to pray for our baby girl!  She will be having surgery in the next week and we NEED the biopsy to come back showing *NO* abnormal cells again!  This pup is a warrior and has been through so much, she's handling this much better than Mommy and Daddy, even her Big Sissy knows she's just not herself!  This next week will be filled with LOTS of extra snuggles and treats, who can say no to this face!!  We love you Calee girl, you got this! #intrathoracicmastcelltumor #intrathoracicwarrior #caleeprotocol #caleegirl #holistichealth #fuckcancer

Possibilité également de la conduire sans utiliser l'embrayage, la boîte est assez facile et assez souple pour le faire sans la forcer. “

En plastique très dur, des rayures dues à la ceinture de sécurité ou des clefs. - Autonomie trop restreinte (réservoir 35l) - Ethanol : – ne supporte que E55 maxi, soit 20/25% à 40/45% de SP95-E10 en fonction des saisons – faire une mélange d'E85 accentue les difficultés de démarrage sans que s'en soit la cause – défaut moteur (MIL) allumé à E60. Listed: David Nance

David Nance comes from a small town in Omaha, an unlikely hub for messy, lo-fi guitar pop, but a place with cheap enough rent and enough places to play that a musician can stretch out and find his own style. His bandcamp output is large and varied, but his latest, Negative Boogie (on BaDaBing) has brought a larger audience.  Of this album, Justin Cober-Lake observed that, “Nance, no matter what he’s singing about, sounds like he’s having fun while he’s doing it, but also as if the performance is a necessity. “

Catherine Ribeiro + 2bis — S/T

Although Catherine's other work with Patrice Moullet is fantastic (and truth be told the music is probably better on Alpes albums "Paix" or "Ame Debout"), this is still my favorite of hers. Riberio is straight-up psychotic and gives my favorite vocal performance of all time, holding true a decade after first being turned on to this. I don't speak french so I have no clue what she's saying, maybe at this point it's for the better?

Henry Flynt — I Don't Wanna   

Hootenanny drone? Yodel art-rock? Whatever it is, I can't stop listening to it. Legend has it Flynt swapped guitar lessons from Lou Reed instead of financial reimbursement for sitting in with VU when Cale was out with the Clap or whatever. You can totally hear Reed in his playing but Flynt's cramped violin hand is very much still intact mangling his axe neck. 

Taylor Kitchings — Clean Break

Kitchings' attempt at AM soft-rock fails in the best way possible giving us this "Corky's..." era Mayo Thompson record without all the art school and out-right hornyness. 

 Vernon Wray — Wasted 

God bless Vernon Wray for influencing Kris Kristofferson  and Kristofferson for influencing Vernon Wray and giving us the best Kristofferson record. World weary and optimistic. Bruised and pretty. A great record for being blasted on a couch at 3 AM. "When I start drinking, then I stop thinking of you..."

Stephen David Heitkotter — S/T

On paper, this record sounds like a fucking wreck; Fresno speed freak writes funky meandering guitar riffs and, without any explanation or planning, gets some dudes in his neighborhood to jam with him on tape. Actually,it sounds pretty good on paper. How is there such a psychotic rhythm section just hanging around Fresno?!? BUT it's really all about  the way he bends, hammer-ons, and straight up mauls his guitar. 

Loren Mazzacane & Kath Bloom — Sing The Children Over

Transcendental traditionalists. Kath sings the truth while Loren slides it. Bummer they won't play together anymore. Love is rough, but it seems like they both know that. 

The Raincoats — S/T

Perfect album. Not a shitty moment from start to finish. Everyone's on a quest for new musical horizons, technical skill be damned. Four hungry young women, in their prime, all writing songs, all leaving their heart on the tape.  Ana's glass-scratch guitar, Gina's aerobatic bass playing, Vicky's screech and drone violin and Palmolive's bashing coconut drums(my favorite recorded drumming of all time). Great lyrics too "...is it love when I fear you talking to me?...is it love when I don't know who you are?..."

Peter Green — End Of The Game

Pete Green-era Fleetwood Mac has been new territory for me in the past few years. Don't get me wrong, it's all great and fine, especially their 25 minute version of "Rattlesnake Shake" from those 1970 string of shows in Boston, but "End of The Game" is the end-all-be-all Green manifesto for me. My only problem with this album is whatever asshole at Warner Brothers thought it was a good idea to chop this jam up into "songs".  Why not let it be the brilliant mess that it is?

My favorite scene in the US right now. Mountain Movers, Headroom, Alexander and whatever project Stefan Christensen is doing this week. Submitting this new Headroom song because my jaw is still on the floor from watching them play a few weeks ago. 

Brian Crook — Bathysphere 

While a bunch of Crook projects are in heavy rotation in my world, I have to put "Bathysphere" on the sole qualification of how many times I've listened to it. It has so much to offer; feedback stomp, otherworldly slide guitar grease, wah-wah AND phaser. Song structure seems like it's being pulled from thin air. I knew some offering of music from Maryrose and Brian was going on this list. Seeing the Renderers perform for the first time was one of the most profound musical experiences of my life. I was backing up Simon Joyner for a tour and we had just cleared hundreds of miles of desert and shit shows of playing to no one(the fun of a West Coast tour!) to get to Portland for a string of shows down the coast with the Renderers. I really had no idea what I was in for. I still remember the swelling feeling of joy and awe in my chest of watching them open their set with "A Dream of the Sea". Seeing and hearing these creatures conjure these noises/songs of love, pain, want, power, death and life out of their bodies/instruments was inspiring to say the least, and that was just the first night. Every night they got better, digging in more and bring more beauty and ugliness out of their songs. Those 5 shows we played with them left such a lasting impact on me. Thanks Brian and Maryrose.

CANTLON: PACK HOST THE BRUINS AGAIN FRIDAY NIGHT

        VERSUS     

BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - During the first six weeks of the regular season, the Hartford Wolf Pack are rarely in the confines of the XL Center. On Friday night, they will have one of their rare home games over the span against a familiar opponent, the Providence Bruins, who return to the XL Center as part of a weekend home-and-home between the two teams. On opening night, the Pack knocked off the Bruins 4-2 and are coming off a tough road loss, the first of this young season, on Wednesday night, 5-3, against the Binghamton Devils. “We were happy with our early results, but it's still early for us. It's still just two games,“ remarked head coach Keith McCambridge last Sunday. Tuesday saw the Devils score in the first and last minute of the first period. Defenseman John Gilmour said that he has to get on the puck and want it more than the other guy on Sunday after the Laval game. The goaltending of Dustin Tokarski immediately caught the team's eye. “He clearly impressed us the way he stopped shot. We are very confident having him and (Marek) Mazanec back there,” said Gilmour. Scoring in the first period has been good so far through the early part of the new season, a 180 degree turn from last season. “It's so critical to get off to quick starts. These two games, we have to keep it going to have success,” Gilmour, who saw the Pack outscored by a wide margin in the first period last season and got caught in that pattern on Wednesday night, said. The team's ability to respond quickly to their opponents is something else that he likes in this group. “It shows character and resiliency, and to see it in a young group like that, it's very good to see.” Tokarski is a seasoned AHL vet having had stops in Norfolk, St. John’s, Syracuse, Hamilton, San Diego, and last year in Lehigh Valley. Tokarski is as competitive as the next player, but clearly becoming a mentor is as valuable a tool he could bring to the rink along with his pads, stick, and glove. “You take it as a responsibility. Everybody is young once. As you get older, as I am, you try to do a bit extra to help the young guys to improve, get better and get to the NHL. That’s part of the job.” The Pack then will embark on a four-game road trip Saturday over seven days starting in Providence Saturday night. They then have their Canadian road trip to play Laval next Wednesday followed by Belleville on Friday and then finishing with Toronto. The Pack then return with a mid-week game against Lehigh Valley and their first meeting of the season with their intra-state and franchise rivals, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers before taking off on a five-game road trip. NEWS & NOTES: Former Yale Bulldog goalie Alex Lyon was sent to Lehigh Valley on Wednesday by the Flyers. Joel Bouchard clearly exudes the sense that the new Laval coach is looking to buy into the new pro game model and working it to convey that to a thoroughly revamped Laval Rocket. “We worked very hard, but it’s a major learning curve for results. This was a good learning experience for this team and our guys. You have to learn to play back-to-back games quickly, and that is an adjustment at this level. We have to learn to stick with it. It's gonna take time, but I will say they work hard, no complaints there. We got to learn better puck management, and that will take time. We went with a little more veteran lineup up front because we really have little experience on the backline right now. We got one unit. We have a Czech, Michael Moravcik, and on another, Cale Fleury, they will grow with time.” Bouchard seemed to wear all the hats in Blainville-Boisbriand (QMJHL), about 40 minutes North of Laval. He was the owner/GM, and the head coach. Things are a little more streamlined in the AHL. “It's an adjustment for me too. I played in the American League, so I know what it's all about, too. I still do a lot here. My number one job is to help make these guys good pro’s, and it’s a new challenge and I’m ready to help them get to Montreal.” Hartford holds very strong memories for Bouchard who played here for half a season in 2005-06 under Ryan McGill, who's now the assistant coach in Las Vegas. He's coming off as a frightening medical situation having survived meningitis. “It was a good experience for me, and a real turning point in my playing career. It got me back to the NHL. Ryan McGill, Nicky Fotiu, and Al Coates believed in me. It wasn’t long, but I was able to get my confidence back playing here. As we were driving here from Providence, I really thought about it that it was some of the best hockey I ever played and I was focused and dialed in and got back to the Rangers. It's fun to be back here.” Bouchard is going to be quite interesting to watch this season. He may set a new coaching fashion statement too. He’s the first coach to carry all his gear in a backpack. Could a Roots commercial be in Bouchard’s future (Roots is a major Canadian clothing store)? PLAYERS ON THE MOVE  The Sound Tigers lost out on a top talent as Jan Kovar, a free agent signee from the KHL, failed to accept an assignment to Bridgeport. He was waived and brought out of his $2 million dollar deal and is returning to Russia. The Islanders also sent back Tanner Fritz. Four more AHLer’s have signed in Europe. Brendan Kichton goes from Charlotte to SaiPa (Finland-FEL). Former Ranger draft pick, Ethan Werek, goes from Belleville to HC Ocelari Trinec (Czech Republic-CEL). Henrik Happala leaves Springfield to go to Tappara (Finland-FEL). Ex-Pack, Eric Selleck, goes from Belleville to HC Banska Bystrica (Slovakia-SLEL) making 83 AHL players who are heading over to Europe to Asia. Ex-CT Whale, TJ Hensick, signs with Toledo (ECHL) and a former Whale teammate, Kris Newbury, was claimed off waivers from Brampton (ECHL) by the Jacksonville (FL) IceMen on Thursday. ECHL camps are winding down as they start their regular season this week. Cut from Maine Jesse Schwartz (UCONN-HE), Enfield’s Robbie Baillargeon is traded from Orlando Solar Bears to the Tulsa Oilers, and Brady Vail, who was in Pack camp, is traded from Maine to Cincinnati. Other cuts include ex-QU goalie star, Eric Hartzell, who was let go by Tulsa, and Charlie Millen, the son of ex-Hartford Whaler, Greg Millen, was cut by Worcester. Former Sound Tiger and Rangers draft pick, Daniel Maggio, is sent to Norfolk (ECHL) by Tucson. Another son of an ex-Whaler, Carter Sandlak, whose father is Jim Sandlak, retires from Greenville to become a referee (AHL) and linesman (ECHL) this season. Ex-Pack, Henrik Tallinder, whose four games didn’t earn him a Rangers contract, went back home and after two seasons with TPS Turku, retires from the game.
