“and i kind of decided at the beginning of the year that even though i was under the umbrella of csi, i, personally, was in a romantic comedy”—jorja fox, on csi s7

I'm watching csi for the first time and I'm currently on s8 but I have a dumb question lol. why did sofia disappear without trace? is she coming back?
not a dumb question at all! This has never been properly explained (to my knowledge) they just yanked her away from us 😭
In all seriousness I suspect it was to do with budget, because they would have been paying her a main cast member salary, and possibly some other BTS logistical stuff. At that point they had a LOT of main cast members. I'm not sure if they knew Jorja was going to leave at the point where they would have been making the decisions about who to renew and stuff.
From a story POV, they literally never explain her leaving. As a whole they did a HUGE disservice to her character imo. They could have developed her a lot more and a lot better. I think because she was largely there, initially at least, to create tension between grissom and sara (a huge ick for me but we won't go into that) it caused a lot of fans not to warm to her at the time. And then in s6 and s7 I don't think they did enough with her character to make people (at the time) really feel strongly about her either way, so they just.... got rid of her. (last in, first out.) I'm still extremely bitter about this, as you can probably tell, because I TRULY think that she would have been a very beloved character if they just put in a little more work.
Also, we get little moments of her with Cat and Sara. But they def wanted to pit all the women against each other and I feel this could have... not happened. (This is a huge tangent, I am so sorry. But also I could talk about this for 5 days.)
To answer your question simply, yes, she comes back. More in depth answer below the cut but this will be minorly spoilery for you, so you can choose to read or not.
She comes back for ONE guest star towards the end of season 11. They SORT of explain where she's been, in that she's got a new rank when she comes back, deputy chief, so we can esentially say that she was away somewhere else climbing the ranks. I think we decided that deputy chief was one step below the under sheriff so she was doing SOMETHING to further her career in the 3-4 years that we didn't see her. But they don't really touch on it beyond that.

Bothering you with questions 🫡
Which moment/episode/scene from Supernatural you find the warmest to your soul? It doesn't have to be your favourite moment, but when you're watching this moment you should think "ha, life is worth living" and feel metaphorical sunshine on your skin.
hi hello!!! thank you for being annoying in my inbox (lie!! you're not) i'm srry if it took me some time to answer, but i had to think about this for a while lol
this is actually not an easy question because a) i suffer from Very Bad Memory Syndrome and i suck at recalling specific things/events especially when it comes to a series as long as supernatural where there are sooo many things and events. and b) many moments or situations that i think of as heartwarming at first are inevitably tied to so many other moments and situations that are just. plain depressing (supernatural thesis statement) and i didn't want to include those
this to say that my answer will not be a definitive one and that there are probably a thousand more moments that simply didn't come to mind at the right time. rip 😔 so im going to list things off the top of my head in no particular order (recency bias warning: im on s7 with my rewatch so they'll mostly be from the first seasons)
-- frontierland. so very deangirl of me to be fair, but they gave me my favourite guy in a little costume and the sheer excitement of a 8-year-old at a theme park and expected me to be normal about it. seeing dean so overjoyed and act so silly and goofy is actually the point of it all. for me
-- dean eating m&ms in 1x02. this is purely sentimental because it is the very first scene that made me go 'yep. that's him. that's my guy'. it all went downhill from there and all these years later im still here talking about him heh
-- free to be you and me, the alley scene. THE destiel scene to me. im sorry but that is the beginning of it all. AND THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW. the whole scene is just soooo innocent and genuine and wholesome... dean's laughter and his 'it's been a long time since i laughed that hard', cas' shy tentative smile when he glances at dean... YEAG
-- not really a specific moment, but cas and jack's relationship in later seasons. i love when they show how much similar they are and all the little idiosyncrasies they have in common. i'm thinking about the scene with jack and the fbi badge ('i just graduated from csi' 😭) but also about the head tilt + eyes squint. they mean everything to me!!!
-- other honorable mentions: very basic, but the impala scene from swan song. the night moves scene from baby (it's always so nice to see them enjoy the little moments) and also the firework scene from dean's heaven in 5x16. aannnnddd dean when he has genuine & positive interactions with jack, like teaching him how to drive or baking him the birthday cake etc etc. also every jack scene ever
that's it! but the list could go on forever :^)
what about you?? now i'm curious about your favourite moments (and if anyone else wants to share theirs please reply or @ me or whateverrr i'd be happy to read them!)

Heather have you watched 9-1-1?
only via tumblr.
it's not because i'm pretentious or anything but rather i did my time with procedurals. i was in the goddamn trenches in the early 2000s.
i own seasons 1-3 of the original ncis on dvd and consider these seasons to be the epitome of what a crime procedural should be. i've seen up to s7 with a few episodes here and there after. ncis legitimately probably saved my life during my parents divorce in 2007.
i have seen all 15 seasons of csi and own seasons 1-5 on dvd, i own all of csi ny on dvd and have 41 pages dedicated to it on my blog when i rewatched it in 2021. i wrote a 5k essay about lindsay monroe and her trauma and have another probably 6k written that i never posted.
i watched about 7 seasons of criminal minds and only stopped watching when cbs was fucking around with aj cook and paget brewster.
psych is still one of the best shows of the the oughts and i own it on dvd.
these shows walked so the 911 franchise could give us canon bi evan buckley. i'm glad we as a culture moved on to firefighters instead of doing yet another cop procedural but every time i think about watching it my heart goes
Tumblr media
the stars just haven't aligned yet for me to watch it i guess.

TV I Watched In 2023
Before I can even begin to answer survey questions about it, I have to remember what I actually watched. I have been tracking it month to month, but since I rarely finish an entire series or even a season within a month, all that data is stretched and scattered throughout the year and it takes a post like this to bring it all together. Does this need to be public? Probably not. But it is anyway!
Broken down by categories that are not, for the most part, genre:
INSTA-QUIT
Animal Control: 1x01
The Terror: 1x01-02
Quantum Leap (2022): 1x04
The Triangle (2005 miniseries): pt 1
SAMPLED, WILL COME BACK SOMEDAY
The Ranch: 1x01-02
Trinkets: 1x01
What If…?: 1x03 & 1x07
CURRENT SHOWS (SCRIPTED)
Abbott Elementary: S2
Night Court (2023)
That 90s Show
Ghosts (CBS): S2
Poker Face
Daisy Jones & The Six
Loki (full series)
Alaska Daily
Good Omens: S2
Big Sky: S2-3
La Brea: S2
Goosebumps (2023)
NEW TO ME
The Exes: 4x17-22, finishing what I started last year
Scott & Bailey: S3-5 (and a rewatch of S1)
The Night Manager (which I completely failed to reblog anything about because I was overwhelmed with joy; so good)
The Essex Serpent
Return to Cranford
Litvinenko
Slasher: S1
REALITY & GAME SHOWS
Survivor: S44-45
The Amazing Race: S32 & 35
The Chase: S3
Celebrity Jeopardy
Celebrity Family Feud: Chenoweth vs. Najimy
Celebrity Wheel of Fortune: Abbott Elementary cast
Cook at All Costs
Snack vs. Chef
Best Leftovers Ever
Pressure Cooker
The Traitors (both US and UK)
Snake in the Grass
Squid Games: The Challenge
Special Forces: World's Toughest Test: S2 (and 2 of S1)
Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team: season 15
(I can't explain why I will watch 7 junk food reality shows before I watch one genuinely good series when I have sooo many of the latter on my watch list. It used to be because I wrote about every episode of TV, and it's always hard to articulate positive feelings well, but now I guess I just have an emotional block about processing Great Stuff without even having something to show for it afterward.)
RANDOM REWATCHES
Various episodes: 30 Rock; Seinfeld; Friends; The Simpsons (S7 & 12 mostly); Community (S1-2 mostly)
That 70s Show: 1x01-19
Survivor: Gabon (S17)
The Amazing Race: S32
The Office: S9
CSI: 4x12
Primeval: New World: 1x01
Doctor Who: 4x01-02; 4x06; 4x12-13

Being part of many fandoms means you get out-of-the-blue feelies for some really old shit. Like, for example, watching CSI: NY reruns from somewhere between S1-6 and still get hit with the JoxMac feels of S7-9.

hiya! im starting (yet another lmao) csi rewatch in hopes of getting as many timestamps as i can, for fics. ive seen through your posts you've done something similar and i was wondering whats your earliest one? im only a few eps i to s1 but already im remebering the first few are vastly different to later episodes. there are less crime scene pictures, less evidence layouts, etc. i'm just wondering how far i have before i get an actual point to plot! 🤣
(please keep up your csi metas i love themmm <3)
hi, rewatch anon!
good to hear from you again!
so i actually have dates for the first couple of csi episodes, not based on documentary evidence—as you state, the early episodes are very sparse on any kind of helpful paperwork or timestamps, a la evidence photos, lab printouts, cctv footage, etc.—but rather on some extrapolation.
remember how in the pilot warrick places a bet on an nfl football game between green bay and san francisco for judge cohen?
well, during the 2000-2001 nfl season, the green bay packers played the san francisco 49ers on 10.15.00—which makes that our date for episode 01x01 "pilot." this date aligns with the episode's original air date also being in october 2000 (10.06.00).
while the air dates and in-universe dates for episodes don't always line up, the writers did generally try to set episodes during the same months in which they originally aired where they could.
from there, we can deduce that the action for episode 01x02 "cool change" takes place one day later on 10.16.00.
which makes that date the anniversary for when sara first comes to vegas!
coincidentally, grissom and sara get engaged to each other exactly seven years and one day later, on 10.17.07.
in episode 01x03 "crate n' burial," it is mentioned that nick has been a csi level iii for about two weeks by that point, which means that the action for that episode primarily takes place on 10.29.00 (approximately).
unfortunately, after that point, the in-universe dates trail goes cold for a while.
the next one i've been able to find is for episode 01x10 "sex, lies, & larvae," which is the first time (to my knowledge) a date shows up based on documentary evidence: the paper marker on the morgue drawer where kaye shelton's body is stored allows us to determine that the main action for this episode takes place between 12.10.00 and 12.15.00 (as kaye has been dead for five days by the time of her body's discovery).
from there, dates continue to be extremely hit or miss throughout the rest of s1. it isn't until s2 that they start to more consistently feature, appearing in most episodes.
of course, even then, most seasons still have at least one or two episodes in them i've never been able to find dates for. the first and only completely dated season i have charted out is s7! all the rest of them have gaps.
which is to say nothing of the internal chronological inconsistencies, which are a whole problem unto themselves.
anyway, good luck with your endeavors, anon! enjoy your rewatch!
please feel welcome to send another question any time!
