Leona Kingscholar
A lion beastman whoโ€™s usually laying around somewhere in the forest or in his house, sleeping.
As it turns out he only really walks around town starting from 7PM up to ungodly hours (cue a lot of passing out right in front of him cuz you couldnโ€™t find him right up to 2).
Plays rugby with Ruggie and Epel every sunny Sunday.
He was actually born into an affluent family as the second son. Heโ€™d spent his whole life training to take over the company despite everyone from his parents to the housekeepers looking down on him and constantly comparing him to his older brother.
In the end his brother took over the company and after his nephew, Cheka, was born he left the city and moved to the quiet town of Night Raven. (Well, it was quiet before all the crazy residents started moving inโ€ฆ)
Loved Gifts: Meat/Meat Dishes (Except Bug Meat), Universal Loves
โ€œHeh, not bad Herbivore.โ€
Hated Gifts: All Vegetables, Universal Hates
โ€œOi, do I look like a garbage can?โ€
Ruggie Bucchi
A hyena beastman who grew up in the slums of the city with his grandma and the kids he took care of.
When they hadnโ€™t moved yet Leona would often hire him to run the occasional errand but before he moved he asked him to follow him and be his full time attendant for a ludicrous salary.
Immediately accepted and regularly sends money back to his grandma.
He takes part time jobs at Samโ€™s General Store and the town saloon as well.
Sometimes steals random veggies from your garden, the scarecrows arenโ€™t just for the crow.
Is often found in the forests foraging or tending to a little vegetable garden that only he eats the harvest from.ย
Doesnโ€™t blink an eye if he sees you rummaging through the garbage. If anything, he joins you.
Loved Gifts: Dandelions, Donuts, Gold, All Foragables, Universal Loves
โ€œReally?! Shishishi, well donโ€™t mind if I do! Here, have this~โ€
Hated Gifts: Sap, Anything Rotten, Universal Hates
โ€œ...Do I look that desperate?โ€
Jack Howl
The local botanist! His shop is a greenhouse and he specialises in ornamental plants like cactus, succulents and flowers! Most of the flower seeds are sold from him as well as fertilisers and pots.
Genuinely loves his job but prefers being more physically active.
Goes on runs with Deuce every sunny Wednesday but runs at 6AM every other day.
A wolf beastman who lives with his parents and his two younger siblings.
Is often found tending to his shop or working out outside.ย
Loved Gifts: Cactus Fruit, Pear Compote, Universal Loves
โ€œ...! Thanks farmer. Wh- My tail is NOT wagging!โ€
Hated Gifts: Spring Onion, Horseradish, Leek, Universal Hates
โ€œ!!! Ugh, excuse meโ€ฆโ€

Notes: Fluffy Mackerel Pudding seems to be Fereldan as it's found in DA:O in this Codex entry at the Arl of Redcliffe's Estate in Denerim. Snail & Watercress Salad isn't traditional Avvar cuisine; though snails are standard Avvar fare, this salad which has them in conjunction with other ingredients is Devon's take on snails that they made for their Avvar hosts. The given Spiced Jerky recipe is Dalish, but the book notes that preserved foods like it play an important role in many different Thedosian cultures. Grey Warden Pastry Pockets are a variation on a tough Grey Warden pastry which incorporates the far more delicate Orlesian puff pastry, that was championed by newer Warden recruits from Orlais. Unidentified Meat is usually served with Nevarran Flat Bread. Black Lichen Bread doesn't explicitly say but is clearly dwarven, as it references "underground" versus the "surface" and the dwarf Garin in Orzammar mentions it in DA:O. Peasant Bread is both Dalish and City Elf. Merrill's Blood Soup could be Dalish in origin as it's a recipe of Merrill's. Devon's Lentil Soup recipe has classic Tevinter flavors in it. Roasted Turkey with Sides is found throughout the Free Marches. Sera's Yummy Corn could be Fereldan in origin as it's a recipe of Sera's. Poison Stings is likely Tevinter as Dorian is fond of it. Rice Pudding could be Antivan or Rivaini as in Thedas you don't see much rice outside of Antiva or Rivain, or perhaps Tevinter or Qunari as it was a dish made by Krem, Iron Bull and the Chargers. Found Cake could be Fereldan as it's based on Dog's Found Cake in DA:O. Sugar Cake was purchased from a surface dwarf merchant and is based on Sugar Cake from DA:O (Feraldan dish? Dwarven?). Lamprey Cake was Devon's pickled lamprey-inspired cake, with pickled lamprey itself being a "singular" (implied: odd) favorite of an Orlesian noble. The Hissing Drake, The Golden Nug and The Emerald Valley are drinks served at the Gilded Horn in Orlais. The Emerald Valley's place of origin isn't given in the book, but we know from this Codex that it includes a spirit that is Orlesian, having been made in Lydes. Going by Iron Bull's dialogue with Varric, hot chocolate/cocoa is not from the south and is rare there. Dragon Piss could be Fereldan as it's based on Dragon Piss which is found in Ferelden.
Alphabetical ingredients / 'foodstuffs and drinks which exist in Thedas' list (DA Cookbook-specific list)
Notes: These ingredients are derived from the dish names and the lore blurbs (which appear to be in-world), not the recipes and associated ingredients lists themselves (which appear to be our world/irl-based). Also, this is a sort of scrappy list with mixed singular/plurals, some repeating stuff (e.g. I know pork, bacon, pig and ham is all "pig"), some non-specific stuff e.g. "herbs", and some stuff that is more 'a combo food' than 'a single ingredient' e.g. "dough", but just go with it ok hh, it's just meant to be a quick 'n' dirty reference list as a resource not a perfect culinary thing:
โ€œBitter greensโ€, Ale, Almonds, Antivan pasta, Antivan wine, Apples, Apple blossoms, Apricots, Assorted โ€œforest fruitsโ€, Ayesleigh gulabi goat (a breed of goat from which some goatโ€™s milk is derived), Bacon, Bark, Bark bread, Barley, Beetroot, Biscuits, Black cherries, Black lichen, Blended teas, Blood oranges, Brandy, Bread, Buns, Butter (halla and other types), Cabbage, Carrot, Cave beetles, Celery, Chasind Wildwine, Cheese, Cheese sauce, Cherries, Chicken, Chickpeas, Chocolate, Chocolate cream cake, Cinnamon, Cocoa, Cocoa powder, Corn (yellow and non-yellow varieties), Couscous, Cows, Crab, Cranberry, Cream, Croutons, Currants, Custard (many variations), Cuttlefish, Dark bread, Deep mushrooms (several varieties), Dough, Dracolisk? (in one โ€˜sus meatโ€™ recipe Devon wondered if it could be this), Dried fruit, Dry cheese, Eggs, Egg-white foam (for drinks, due to the The Gilded Hornโ€™s Drink List codex), Fereldan ale, Fereldan barley, Figs, Fish, Flat bread, Flour, Flowers (over 70 different types of herbs and flowers used for food & drink exist), Giant spiders, Giant? (in one โ€˜sus meatโ€™ recipe Devon wondered if it could be this), Gnocchi, Goatโ€™s milk, Goats, Grains, Grapes, Grease, Gurguts, Halla butter, Ham, Harts, Herbs (over 70 different herbs and flowers used for food & drink exist), Hirolโ€™s Lava Burst (due to the The Gilded Hornโ€™s Drink List codex), Honey, Hot peppers, Jams & preserves, Jasmine flowers, Jerky, Lamb, Lamprey, Leeks, Lemon, Lemon juice, Lemon verbena, Lentils, Lichen (underground and surface varieties), Lichen ale, Licorice root, Llomerryn red, Llomerryn rum (due to the The Gilded Hornโ€™s Drink List codex), Lurkers, Mackerel, Mango, Marshmallow (presumably meaning both the marshmallow plant and marshmallows, the confectionary that was originally made from the marshmallow plant. The form given in the cookbook is Orlesian guimauves, which accompany Iron Bullโ€™s hot chocolate. โ€œGuimauveโ€ is French for marshmallow), Mead, Milk, Mincemeat, Mint, Mushroom, Mussels, Mutton, Nettle, Noodles, Nug, Nug bacon, Nuggets (nug-gets), Nutmeg (due to the The Gilded Hornโ€™s Drink List codex), Nuts, Oats, Oil, Olives, Onion, Orange, Orange peel, Oregano, Pasta, Pastry, Peas, Peanut butter, Peanuts, Pepper (as in black pepper etc), Peppermint, Pickled things, Pickled vegetables, Pie, Pig, Plums, Pomegranate, Pork, Potatoes, Poussin, Prawns, Puff pastry, Pumpkin, Quillback (in one โ€˜sus meatโ€™ recipe Devon wondered if it could be this, and in DA:I some NPCs mention it), Rabbit, Raisins, Rams, Raspberries, Red bell peppers, Red grapes, Rhubarb, Rice, Rolls, Royal elfroot (due to the The Gilded Hornโ€™s Drink List codex), Rum (due to the The Gilded Hornโ€™s Drink List codex), Saffron, Salt, Semolina flour, Sheep, Shrimp, Smoked meats, Snails, Sour ale, Sour cherries, Spices, Spinach, Spirits (as in alcohol), Strawberries, Sugar, Tea, Toasted bread, Tomatoes, Truffles, Turkey, Turnip, Tzatziki sauce, Vine leaves, Waffles, Water, Watercress, West Hill brandy, Wheat, Whipped cream, Whiskey (due to the The Gilded Hornโ€™s Drink List codex), White chocolate, White frosting, White Seleny wine, White wine, Wildflowers, Wine, Wraps (soft), Wyverns, Yogurt
'See also' / 'did you know':
Eggs ร  la Val Foret
Fried Young Giant Spiders: previously made an appearance in the DA tabletop. The player party arrives at Chanra Thaig and sees "Bonfires built inside steel drums provide warm and heat for the dwarves huddled around them, cooking deepstalkers, what looks like the legs of giant spiders, and small rodent-like animals on spits". The dwarves have "fuel, water, and domesticated spiders and nugs in deeper chambers for food".
Fluffy Mackerel Pudding
Snail and Watercress Salad
Cave beetle previously made an appearance in the DA tabletop. They're described as "scavengers and carrion eaters", "black" and "hard-shelled". They're also known as "rock beetles" and are "little more than a nuisance on its own. Dwarves are even known to roast and eat them out of the shells".
Pickled Eggs (from "The Whole Nug" in World of Thedas)
Seheron Fish Pockets: Iron Bull has dialogue where he says "I remember one guy, he made these things - fish wrapped in thin bread". He was talking of a street food vendor in Seheron who had been forced by Tevinter spies to poison his food. Fittingly, in the cookbook Devon narrates that they learned this recipe from a Charger.
Black Lichen Bread: Garin from DA:O had an incident a few years back where he cut himself and some raw lyrium dust got into his blood. Since then it's been hard for him to concentrate and he's forgetful. He mentions bread that's made by using lichen (I think he mentioned that his lunch was a slice of lichen bread). interestingly, like lyrium, the cookbook lore blurb for Black Lichen Bread contains reference to how black lichen is toxic.
Hearth Cakes (from "The Whole Nug" in World of Thedas)
Peasant Bread: appears in The Masked Empire. in the Dalish camp, Dalish cooks prepared a midday meal, which was served along with peasant bread. "It was almost equal parts wheat, salt, and grease, and in lean winters, it was sometimes the only thing that could put meat on a peasant's bones." Michel watches an old elven woman drizzle honey across a piece and remembers his City Elven mother putting a bit of sugar she had stolen from the tavern she worked in on his piece of bread. The cookbook lore blurb for Peasant Bread says it is eaten by Dalish elves and City elves alike in Orlais, with the recipe being "very straightforward, calling for wheat, salt, and grease in nearly equal parts". Also, in The Last Court, Seraultine (Orlesian) peasants are described as eating bread at mealtimes
The Hanged Man's Mystery Meat Stew: in a DAII loading screen, it says that the tavern's feature dish is a stew made from a different mystery meat every morning
Fish Chowder: in DA:O Zevran says "Can you smell that? Like rotting flesh. Just like back in Antiva City. Now if only you could find me a prostitute or two, a bowl of fish chowder and a corrupt politician, I'd really feel like I was home!"
Sweet and Sour Cabbage Soup (the cookbook lore blurb mentions the Orlesian troupe of actors from the show Wilkshire Downs. in this codex they are mentioned along with "cabbage stew")
King Alistair's Lamb and Pea Stew: Alistair and Leliana have this dialogue in DA:O about this dish (Ctrl-F "pea stew").
Antivan Gnocchi: In Tevinter Nights (Eight Little Talons), the Crow leaders eat gnocchi with dinner
Gurgut Roast with Lowlander Spices and Mushroom Sauce
Nug Pancakes, two
Fish in Salt Crust
Roasted Wyvern. Also Isabela has dialogue in Mark of the Assassin where she says "I hope I'm not expected to eat roast wyvern after this." The lore blurb in the cookbook for this dish also references this Codex
Starkhaven Fish and Egg Pie (from "The Whole Nug" in World of Thedas)
Cacio e Pepe: First mentioned in Tevinter Nights (The Wigmaker Job). Illario complains "This isn't Cacio e Pepe" while making a show of tapping his dagger against a plate of leftovers. Lucanis replies "You ordered an Antivan dish in Tevinter. What did you expect?", to which Illario quips "Something edible".
Turnip and Mutton Pie
Smoked Ham from the Anderfels: a servant in Mark of the Assassin offers Hawke and Tallis "smoked ham from the Anderfels. They say it tastes of despair". Tallis replies "Wait, does it really? How can ham taste of despair? Why would anyone eat it if it did?". The servant explains "That's what the importer said. They all talk like that" apparently. This dish is also mentioned in DA:I. After WEWH Dorian says "I hope you tried the ham they were serving, by the way. Tastes of despair. Fascinating". The cookbook lore blurb asserts that contrary to rumors and what the importers say, this ham does not, in fact, taste of despair. Also, see The Jade Ham (tumblr won't let me add it as a proper link: https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/The_Jade_Ham), as the cookbook lore blurb references this item and its description
Roasted Turkey with Sides: Roast turkey previously made an appearance in the DA tabletop. Lady Sennova hosts a gala/party in Orlais, which players infiltrate/attend and at which food and drink is served. "The Game is about appearances as much as it is about outright treachery, so a dead rat discovered in the roast turkey could serve as a crueler twist of the knife than an actual twisting of the knife". The cookbook lore blurb references the comic Knight Errant, which involves Sebastian's birthday dinner party
Sera's Yummy Corn (from "The Whole Nug" in World of Thedas)
Dwarven Plum Jam: in DA:O a Diamond Quarter noble dwarf says something like "I will die without my favorite plum jam from the surface!" The cookbook lore blurb references the fact that in Orzammar, jam from the surface, especially jams made from plums, are in especially high demand and cost exorbitant prices
Rice Pudding: in DA:I Krem mentions a time when he, Iron Bull and the Chargers defended a village from fifty bandits. Afterwards the villagers paid them for their services in bags of rice. He says that they made rice pudding after that. The cookbook lore blurb references this story of Krem's
(new text block because the previous text block hit a character limit hh)
Antivan Apple Grenade: the cookbook lore blurb references Antivan Fire Grenades (two), which spread sticky fire. maybe it's my brain conjuring up sticky toffee/toffee apples, but I wanna say that this dish would not only be hot but also sticky :)
Found Cake
Varric's Favorite Cinnamon Rolls: in DAII Sandal says that Orana smells of cinnamon rolls, which was interesting to me as DAII is the game where Varric is introduced and his first (and greatest) batch of cinnamon roll friends, the Kirkwall Crew, are featured in
Croissants: Calix and Vaea eat something which arguably look like croissants in the comic Dragon Age: Deception, in an inn in Tevinter.
Cherry Cupcakes: the cookbook lore blurb says these are served by servants on stilts at the Tevinter theature. in the comic Dragon Age: Magekiller, Marius is depicted serving an array of treats and snacks to a Tevinter elite at the Tevinter theatre while on stilts. some of the cupcakes on his tray bear somewhat of a resemblance to the cupcakes in this recipe.
Sugar Cake
Pickled Lamprey: the cookbook lore blurb is referencing the book Last Flight, where Norbert de la Haine and his unfortunate fondness for pickled lampreys is mentioned.
Lichen Ale
The Hissing Drake. the cookbook lore blurb mentions the Gilded Horn
Hot Chocolate: Iron Bull discusses his penchant for this drink with Varric. "How do you guys live without this stuff?" he says. Varric replies "I don't see what the deal is, honestly, but different tastes..." / "Now I just need some hot milk and some of those Orlesian guimauves to put in it" / "Hey, what you do with this 'cocoa' is up to you. I don't need to hear about it"
Antivan Sip-Sip
Dragon Piss, two
Rivaini Tea Blend: In Masked Empire Celene drinks a Rivaini blend of tea containing cinnamon, ginger and cloves, sweetened with honey. the cookbook lore blurb references Celene drinking Rivaini Tea Blend throughout the day to combat headaches, but this tea blend consists of peppermint, lemon verbena, oregano and licorice root. Rivaini tea also crops up here.
The Golden Nug, two
The Emerald Valley
Chasind Sack Mead
Characters mentioned or alluded to in the cookbook
Devon (new character, writer and narrator of the book), Merrill, Alistair, Sera, Varric, Solas, Cassandra, Fenris, Cullen, Sten, Iron Bull, Bull's Chargers, Krem, Nan (possibly, if she is Devon's mother), Norah (possibly, as the waitress at The Hanged Man), Zevran, Morrigan, the Hero of Ferelden, the Inquisitor, Josephine, Paragon Varen, Leliana, Schmooples, the Hero of Ferelden's mabari, Sebastian, Cole, Vivienne, Dorian, Anders, Loghain, Bethany, Hawke, the Couslands, Bodahn Feddic (possibly, as the Sugar Cake item in DA:O is sold by him and Devon narrates that they purchased one from a surface dwarf merchant who said that the Hero of Ferelden purchased some for their companions), Norbert de la Haine, Isabela, Celene, Briala, Gaspard
"Cookbook canon" (notes about the particular worldstate/universe that Devon wrote the cookbook in)
The cookbook was written at some point after the appointment of Divine Victoria, placing it at at least one month after the DA:I base game concludes (at least one month after the defeat of Corypheus). The narrator, Devon, has met and spoken to at least some of the companions & related prominent NPCs, including Varric and Krem. Devon visited Haven.
The HoF was a Cousland. The HoF caught Schmooples for Leliana. Loghain survived DA:O and DA:I, as he's referred to in the present-tense at the time the cookbook is written. Alistair is King of Ferelden. The HoF may have been a lady who romanced Alistair (if you argue that the inclusion of Alistair's love letter to the Warden & the necklace from this merch item as a prop in the photo for Rivaini Couscous Salad as indicator. interesting that the photo where this item is prominently displayed is for the Couscous of all things. back in the day I remember folks calling Cousland "Couscous" hhh).
Hawke was a warrior or rogue and Carver died in the prologue. Hawke was probably Diplomatic. Hawke did not romance Sebastian (in the cookbook he is Prince, and Sebastian reclaims his title as Prince by DA:I unless romanced, in which case he's the Chantry advisor in Starkhaven).
The "worst of [Cullen's] lyrium withdrawals" are mentioned so it could be that the Inquisitor advised Cullen to stop taking lyrium. Cassandra Pentaghast is the Divine. Celene is the Empress of Orlais - possibly ruling "alone" or possibly in the Celene-Gaspard-Briala "work together option", going by "Given how messy Orlesian politics are wont to be, with chevalier cousins vying for the throne and elven handmaids turned both spymaster and lover".
Also, this might be just me and my assumptions or reading of it, but of the companion characters referenced in the book (see section above, Characters mentioned or alluded to in the cookbook), such as Cole, Sera, Merrill, Fenris etc, I feel like it's safe to assume that in this worldstate they were all recruited by the relevant PCs are alive and well (including the Chargers).
Merch items & similar that appear as props or edits in photos
Alistair romance bundle (necklace and letter in Rivaini Couscous Salad. the necklace appears again in Goat Custard. the box can be seen in The Golden Nug)
Grey Warden pendant that shows the griffon heraldry (not sure if this is from the Gear Store or somewhere like Etsy. Grey Warden Pastry Pockets). this reappears in Sugar Cake
Solas Jawbone Necklace (Pickled Eggs. hhhh. unlike in Eggs ร  la Val Foret the blurb here doesn't mention Solas, but he's repped here anyway by the necklace hanging in the background hh)
Cullen's Lucky Coin (The Hanged Man's Mystery Meat Stew, Stuffed Vine Leaves, Antivan Sip-Sip)
In Nug Pancakes this red Inquisition banner with the handprint is in the background (seems to be from game files/in-game props). the red Inquisition banner appears again in Chasind Sack Mead
In Nug Bacon and Egg Pie, there is a nug in the background, presumably looking on in horror as their spouse has been transformed into a pie
In Turnip and Mutton Pie is a necklace that looks like the one Varric wears
Templar Banner (Roasted Turkey with Sides)
Inquisitor's iconic helmet replica (Roasted Turkey with Sides. hhh, this reminds me of the ones that are props in the queue area for the Dragon Age-not Dragon Age-ride)
In the background of Dalish Forest Fruit Cobbler a nug is peeking out
Antivan Apple Grenade contains a map of Westeros hhh. You can see the Three Sisters, the Neck and the Bite
A physical version of this Thedas map appears at various points e.g. Chasind Sack Mead
DA:I advisors coin set (Tevinter Pumpkin Bread) - for some reason Tumblr won't allow me to add the link to this one as an actual link, but you can find it here: gear.bioware.com/en-eu/products/dragon-age-three-advisors-coin-set
A green orb that I would guess is meant to be reminiscent of the ones Solas has you use during Measuring the Veil (Tevinter Pumpkin Bread)
Inquisition symbol pendant (not sure if this is from the Gear Store or somewhere like Etsy)
(You can getย 20% offย in theย BioWare Gear Storeย untilย November 6thย using my latest discount codeย BWCUISINE.ย After that date check backย hereย for a new code.ย alternatively, you can use myย >tracking link<.)
Some random thoughts
Shoutout to the photo for Starkhaven Fish and Egg Pie. It looks a lot like the illustration in World of Thedas of this dish! you can see that they really took it into consideration when creating this dish/image.
I feel like you can also sense the inspiration in general vibe/feel in Dalish Forest Fruit Cobbler from Dalish Deep Forest Comfort in WoT.
The black and gold theme colors of the cover remind me of when DA:D branding was black and gold.

Art Used in the Dragon Age: Official Cookbook: Tastes of Thedas Part Two
Here is Part 1
This contains the images that I didn't notice weren't uploaded as well, all of them new art save for two: Concept Art of Sera Storytelling, and a Nug.
Additionally this too will also have the recipe and page number associated. There are a total of 16 images included here. I was pulling these from the kindle version and when I did a double check of everything I noticed that they didn't have the table of contents spread on the kindle and had scan the images that were missing or cutoff by the nature of the kindle layout.

Nug: Nug Bacon and Egg Pie, p. 87, Golden Nug, p. 167
Something I want to note, is that not all of these art pieces match up with their dish thematically, regionally, or culturally. But almost all of the tableware such as plates, platters, cups, and one of the bowls have detailing that evokes the thought of crows or birds in general which is interesting.

Something had been happening between the two lately; Liko thought she knew the word for it, but she wasn't brave enough to say it yet. She wondered if it was okay to ask Dot about it, but the thought of doing that was a little daunting. All she knew was that thinking about it made her kind of antsy.
Trying to distract herself, she sat up on the bed and glanced around for something to talk about, and her eyes fell on the thin accessory at the far edge of the computer desk.
"Can you tell me about the 'switch-on'?"

Hey! i wanted to know about your thoughts about how Jon would be like post-resurrection with the time skip grrm originally considered?
So that really took hold of me for the first three books. When it became apparent that that had taken hold of me, I came up with the idea of the five-year gap. "Time is not passing here as I want it to pass, so I will jump forward five years in time." And I will come back to these characters when they're a little more grown up. And that is what I tried to do when I started writing Feast for Crows. So [the gap] would have come after A Storm of Swords and before Feast for Crows. But what I soon discovered โ€” and I struggled with this for a year โ€” [the gap] worked well with some characters like Arya โ€” who at end the of Storm of Swords has taken off for Braavos. You can come back five years later, and she has had five years of training and all that. Or Bran, who was taken in by the Children of the Forest and the green ceremony, [so you could] come back to him five years later. Thatโ€™s good. Works for him. Other characters, it didnโ€™t work at all. I'm writing the Cersei chapters in King's Landing, and saying, "Well yeah, in five years, six different guys have served as Hand and there was this conspiracy four years ago, and this thing happened three years ago." And I'm presenting all of this in flashbacks, and that wasn't working. The other alternative was [that] nothing happened in those five years, which seemed anticlimactic. The Jon Snow stuff was even worse, because at the end of Storm he gets elected Lord Commander. I'm picking up there, and writing "Well five years ago, I was elected Lord Commander. Nothing much has happened since then, but now things are starting to happen again." I finally, after a year, said "I can't make this work."
George R. R. Martin โ€” The Complete Unedited Interview
You know, this is something that I haven't really thought about. I only haven't thought about it because there's something we just don't know: when was George planning to kill Jon with the gap in place? A year or two into the skip? Later? Earlier, or even after the skip, when he's had a few years of rule under his belt? It's probably more likely that it was going to happen after the skip, so I think the end result would be the same as the current book!Jon.
We know that death changes a character to the point where in some ways, they're not that character anymore:
And as I got older and considered it more, it also seemed to me that death doesnโ€™t make you more powerful. Thatโ€™s, in some ways, me talking to Tolkien in the dialogue, saying, โ€œYeah, if someone comes back from being dead, especially if they suffer a violent, traumatic death, theyโ€™re not going to come back as nice as ever.โ€
George R. R. Martin on the One Game of Thrones Change He โ€˜Argued Againstโ€™
And we have this, from Varamyr Sixskins:
"They say you forget," Haggon had told him, a few weeks before his own death. "When the man's flesh dies, his spirit lives on inside the beast, but every day his memory fades, and the beast becomes a little less a warg, a little more a wolf, until nothing of the man is left and only the beast remains." (Prologue, ADwD)
Jon's connection to Ghost takes the front seat in ADwD, so we have moments like this:
Jon expected hot mulled wine, and was surprised to find that it was soup, a thin broth that smelled of leeks and carrots but seemed to have no leeks or carrots in it. The smells are stronger in my wolf dreams, he reflected, and food tastes richer too. Ghost is more alive than I am. He left the empty cup upon the forge. (Jon II, ADwD)
--
He was walking beneath the shell of the Lord Commander's Tower, past the spot where Ygritte had died in his arms, when Ghost appeared beside him, his warm breath steaming in the cold. In the moonlight, his red eyes glowed like pools of fire. The taste of hot blood filled Jon's mouth, and he knew that Ghost had killed that night. No, he thought. I am a man, not a wolf. He rubbed his mouth with the back of a gloved hand and spat. (Jon III, ADwD)
--
Jon smelled Tom Barleycorn before he saw him. Or was it Ghost who smelled him? Of late, Jon Snow sometimes felt as if he and the direwolf were one, even awake. The great white wolf appeared first, shaking off the snow. A few moments later Tom was there.
...
The shield that guards the realms of men. Ghost nuzzled up against his shoulder, and Jon draped an arm around him. He could smell Horse's unwashed breeches, the sweet scent Satin combed into his beard, the rank sharp smell of fear, the giant's overpowering musk. He could hear the beating of his own heart. (Jon VII, ADwD)
So ultimately, I think the five year skip!Jon would have the same outcome as the Jon we have in the books: a little ruthless, a little different, and far more closer to Ghost.

Tastes of Thedas -part I-
Tumblr media
The Dragon Age Official Cookbook Tastes of Thedas not only shares with us delicious recipes inspired in the world of Thedas, its many cultures and geography but it also tells us about Devon.
Devon is an adventurer, a Fereldan born to a cook who worked for the Cousland family.
He grew up in the kitchen, nurtured by his mumโ€™s meals and her lectures too but always wanting more, to see the world beyond those walls and all it had to offer. And so he became an adventurer, traveling across Thedas, meeting people and learning about their culture, in particular their cuisine, taking note of everything that he now puts together in a book that is also a love letter to his mum.
The book itself looks very nice, the pictures accompanying the recipes look lovely, colours are vibrant and Devonโ€™s introductions and mentions of various known and beloved characters are something iโ€™d rather leave people read for themselves so iโ€™ll just quickly go over it...in two parts, because i tricked myself with my notes and thought i could type this in one go, but nope, canโ€™t do, โ€œshort, quick postโ€ is not in my vocabulary, unfortunately.
Tumblr media
Ferelden Potato and Leek Soup
Each recipe in the book comes with a short introduction where Devon shares his personal story with it, where he was, who he met, what he learned, and sometimes he mentions Thedasโ€™ personalities so we get the chance to learn little details about them too.
Through these short texts we can get a glimpse of what version of Thedas Devon lives in: the Hero of Ferelden is a Cousland and travelled with their mabari; Ferelden is ruled by King Alistair, while Orlais is ruled by Empress Celene Valmount I, troubled by her cousin chevalier and her elven handmaid โ€œturned spymaster and loverโ€. Divine Victoria is former Seeker Cassandra, and it would seem our IRL joke about Solaโ€™s bald head resembling an egg has leaked into the world of Thedas as well but how widespread it is, if at all, or if itโ€™s something Devon heard from people directly connected to the Inquisition that he met on his travels, i couldnโ€™t say.
These introductions also help us learn a bit more about these places in Thedas, both familiar and soon to be, once The Veilguard takes us further north.
While Devon traveled all around known Thedas most of his recipes in this book come from the nations of Ferelden, Orlais and Antiva.
Orlesian cuisine has tons of cream, apparently they like their sweets very, very sweet. They're also known for having creamy soups.
Meanwhile Ferelden is all about the stews, stews are the pillar of Fereldan cuisine, everything can be a stew, they freaking love stews, โ€œheartly, humble and straightforward to make โ€“ the three key aspects of any good Fereldan stewโ€, โ€œa dish so ubiquitous that itโ€™s become almost synonymous with Fereldan cuisine in generalโ€. That and pickled eggs is their go-to cure for nearly everything.
Tumblr media
Crow Feed
In Antiva they have a variety of ingredients that make for colorful and interesting dishes, there's olives, truffles, cream, cheese, also various dishes where rice is a key ingredient, as well as dishes that make the most of their proximity to the sea (paella, fish chowder). Of course they have wines and pasta too, with sauces and cheese! Cacio e Pepe is a classic. According to Devon the Antivans do not lack pickpockets, corrupt politicians and leather; they also tend to have multiple courses meals and says โ€œdinner is usually a late-night affairโ€ for them. Antiva also has some sweet treats to offer, namely Treviso energy balls made of peanut butter, oats and dried fruits, and Antivan Apple Grenades, served hot as they resemble the grenades the Antivan Crows use.
Recipes and regions covered in this post include:
From Orlais: Eggs a la Val Foret, Blancmange, Sour cherries in Cream From Ferelden: Pickled eggs, Nettle Soup, King Alistairโ€™s Lamb and Pea Stew, Turnip and Mutton Pie, Fereldan Potato and Leek Soup From Antiva: Crow Feed, Fish chowder, Antivan Gnocchi, Antivan Paella, Cacio e Pepe, Treviso Energy Balls, Antivan Apple Grenada From the Free Marches: Roasted Turkey with Sides
Caracters mentioned include the Hero of Ferelden, Zevran Arainai, Lady Vivienne, Lady Josephine, King Alistair, Sebastian Vael, Solas, Commander Cullen, Divine Victoria, Lady Morrigan, Anders..

I can cook this Somehow, I know it Iโ€™ll get Heaven right on my pan (Alastor, wait)
Thereโ€™s just no way I could burn it For once we wonโ€™t have to eat plants (It's just a meeting)
To fry their rinds And toast their hearts Or whatever angels have (This could be bad)
Chin up, Rosie Itโ€™ll be done well Something tells me that today Will be a happy day in Hell
All right, but just don'tโ€ฆ sing at them That twink is halfway down the street Is heโ€” Oh, heโ€™s dancinโ€™ Ugh, no
Thereโ€™s a ripe bloody killing In every town square All the meat so appealing But hard to prepare
The carcass so baffling And bleeds everywhere But I canโ€™t resist the smell Itโ€™s a happy day in hell
Hello, chum! Please I wonโ€™t tell โ€”
There's a tasteless trash fire thatโ€™s smoking leeks whole (So-so) If I donโ€™t find a buyer my headโ€™s gonna roll (Mm, intriguing!) Eating what is expired, and low-cholesterol I'm not feelin' well Another hungry day in Hell
If I can show them itโ€™s not extreme That diets can be changed (The angelkind will sure be changed) Then they will know people can be fried or steamed Using diesel or the range (We're bloodthirsty and deranged)
I can see all my quarries, the vile and debased And I know that they're more of an acquired taste But if I help them explore then they wonโ€™t go to waste Bid all greens farewell It'll be a happy day in Hell
From that lewd studio, where the imbeciles go To watch overrated styleless dumb picture shows To the Cannibal Town, where we don't wear a frown Since foodโ€™s everywhere, why would I? I wonโ€™t be eating crow โ€˜cause thereโ€™s fresh brains and an eye And I know Iโ€™ll ensnare them With heavenly appetite
I can cook this, I just know it (There's an endless trash fire that's smoking leeks whole) I'll get Heaven right on my pans (Ah-ah) There's just no way I could burn it (I really think my boss is gonna make my head roll) I wonโ€™t go back to eating plants (Ahh)
Taste angelkind โ€” Or try my tarts Hm, no thank you, I think Iโ€™ll just โ€” Publish my recipe! (Ah-ah) Was it my pitch?
I can already tell Today is gonna be a fuckin' happy day in Hell

Going Nowhere (Ghost/Silent Hill Crossover) Part 1
Summary: Something very wrong has happened since your last visit home. You may be the key to righting what wrong has been done.
Papa Emeritus x Reader || Violence || Graphic Imagery || Blood || WC: 1203
Itโ€™s Halloween day. You are driving down the road and going through a tunnel, the radio playing your favorite beat and the roads a little foggy from the rain that had just let up. You headed to this town to visit some family, having made plans months ago in advance. Youโ€™re almost there, just over the mountain and down a tunnel. So, you call up your family to say you're almost there only to hear that the line has been disconnected. Confused, you try again coming up to the tunnel and going through. At that point, static cackles from your phone and a loud scream blares out from both your radio and the phone. The sudden sound causes you to swerve and wreck just outside the tunnel.
You wake up having been knocked out with your head against the wheel, but other than what feels like a concussion, you are mostly unharmed, and it is quiet. Having no explanation for the sudden noise and now your car wonโ€™t start, even though damage is at minimum. But there is a sign just ahead of you telling you the town is two miles from where you are. You try your phone again, but this time, it has no signal whatsoever, so you take your chances with hoofing it and hoping to get some help when you get there.
You make it to town to see it eerily quiet. The fog is thick, and everywhere you look, you can see the Halloween decorations, but you're surprised to see no children running about pregaming festivities to do daytime trick or treating. No parents in tow to keep track of rambunctious kids. The last time you visited the town this time of year, it was booming with activity. Plenty of passers by and mom and pop shops opened with candy bowels sitting on the counters. Itโ€™s a stark contrast to what it is now. Most, if not all, the shops are boarded up with posters and graffiti on the windows and walls. โ€˜The End Is Nigh.โ€™
Your family lives on the other side of town, but you know the tourist center is close by and go to find help or at least use a phone. You arrive and immediately use the payphone to call your family. Only to get a static roar of a dial tone and whispers, but you canโ€™t make out any words over the garble of static and tone. So you enter the center to see if anybody is manning the desk and are immediately put off by the appearance that a hurricane went through. Snack machine glass cracked and chair cushions ripped. The TV mounted to the wall is broken, and the floor looks like it hasnโ€™t been mopped in years.
Thereโ€™s a bell on the desk and you ring it. Immediately, there is a sound clattering from the room behind the desk, and you freeze at the low groaning that follows it.
โ€œHello?โ€ You ask nervously, and there is a loud thud from the door before you shriek as the barrier is gnarly knocked off its hinges and slams back into the wall.
From the darkness of the room behind emerges a gray figure, body convulsing like being electrocuted and hairless features grotesque with black and red veins crawling along and throbbing under its skin, its mouth and eyes are black pits that leek black sludge, coming in contact with the ground, hisses and sizzles with acidic smoke. You're paralyzed with fear, unable to move before it lays a hand made out of long nails, like talons on the table and racks them down, easily tearing through the marble countertop like paper.
It moves to hop over the counter, and you turn and run, screaming in terror. You donโ€™t know if itโ€™s chasing you, you donโ€™t give it the chance to catch up. You run and run until you come across the familiar sight of a drug store you used to frequent as a kid. The doors are locked, won't open no matter how much you slam on them, and ask for help. Down the road behind you, you hear a siren call that echoes like a crow gargling glass and quickly dive into the left alley beside the store.
Where you hear sickening tearing and chewing. You look down at the end of the alley to see two dog-like creatures with pits for eyes, eating what remains of a human body. The head is covered in, skull on display, and cheeks chewed through enough to see teeth. Guts hang out of its stomach being eaten up by the monster like animals that, for the moment canโ€™t see you. Until the body jerks itโ€™s hand out towards you and gargles for help.
You back up against the wall in fear and feel something slick and wicked cling to your clothes. Nearly gluing you to the wall, and you pull away in pain as it digs in like nails. You turn to see your own silhouette shadows by black branching and oozing bloody vines of thorns. They reach for you, and you step away just in time for them to jerk forward, sharpening like knives that would have most certainly skewered you.
The โ€˜dogsโ€™ lift their head from their meal to see you, and their mouth opens to show serrated teeth that move like chainsaw blades. You donโ€™t give them the chance to move first and run. This is when the siren starts to ring. This is when the sky blackens but flicks hot and red as it starts to rain hot cinders as they make contact with you, singe your clothes, and burn your skin. Theyโ€™re not big pieces of fire, merely the size of a dime, but they burn like hot coals, and the place begins to smell of burning hair and human flesh. Itโ€™s enough to gag you but the noisesโ€ฆthe cacophony of loud moans of pain, damned screaming and monstrous gurgles and hisses that all pop and follow behind you.
You run and scream and plead for help, knowing you are being chased by the damned and you run to the only sanctuary you know of.
The Abbey.
You reach the gates and sob as you see them open and inviting. Quickly running past them and into the Cathedral. You sob hysterically as you shut the wooden door behind you and press your back to it. You're praying and willing it to stay closed, but whatever is behind it starts to bang and push.
โ€œPlease. Please, God. Help me.โ€ You pray, and then the monsters give up. You can practically hear a sigh from behind the door, and whatever pressure was pushing on it is gone.
"This is a Godless land, childโ€ฆโ€ You shriek at the unannounced presence of the woman in front of you. A woman in a habit with a strange smile on her face. โ€œAnd yet you have stumbled upon it. Nothing happens here without purpose, you know.โ€
She smiles, and the veins on her face look as though she had been poisoned with black ink. Her kind eyes turn into pearlescent white film, and her mouth opens to reveal the teeth of a lion.
โ€œHow unfortunate for you."

Note
3 years ago, but I have only just seen your post on Bald's Leechbook. I have a theory about cropleac. Crop is Old English for the crop or craw in birds, a swelling in the neck or the head or top part of a herb. Craw only started in Middle English as far as we know. Allium vineale is the botanical name of what was called, in 1000ish - crawan leac or crauleac, later crow garlic. This leek has an unusual property, little bulbils form on the flower head, little swellings, on the neck of the plant.
It seems like that post on Bald's Leechbook is making the rounds again, I'm so glad to hear other people with insights into this topic!
That is fascinating, I am not a linguist but that sounds like an excellent and plausible theory to me! I am also not a botanist, but if a botanist out there has opinions on this I'd love to hear it. It's been... several years since I really dug into this topic, and unfortunately I don't have access to the sources I need to fact-check this right now, but I want to say the AncientBiotics project (and the other study before theirs) tested both garlic as well as onion in the recipe, due to the uncertain identity of cropleac. I'd love to know if Allium vineale has any significant chemical differences from onions or what modern day people understand as "normal" garlic.
Man, I need to check in on the AncientBiotics folks and see what they've been up to. It's been several years!
Thanks so much for sharing!

Tastes of Thedas Lore:
New Fauna, Food, Ingredients, and General Lore Introduced by the Cookbook
I'm putting this all in one list separate from the master list so it will be easy to find. I am also including all the information we've known from the sample pages for completeness. Source of all this information is from Dragon Age: The Official Cookbook: Taste of Thedas.
I have not included anything that was mentioned in previous media, for a complete list of all the lore mentioned in the cookbook as well as the other sources that mention it, please see this post. I'm putting all this below the cut in case you are trying to avoid spoilers, as well as the post itself is long.
NOTE: I did not include any of the ingredients from the recipes themselves, just the lore blurbs as it has been made clear the recipes not only do not match up, but are also rooted more in reality than Thedas.
Culture
Anderfels has a robust pig farming industry, the climate being well suited for them to grow to a generous size.
Kirkwall is known for their crab cakes.
Nevarran's culinary practices view food to be a feast for the eyes and mouth and thus place heavy importance on plating.
Orzammar holds a competition for the Best Sauce and participants will hatch plots to steal recipes of competitors. Leading recipes to be closely guarded secrets.
Some Orzammar dwarves insist that the proximity to lyrium and darkspawn only improve the flavor of edible deep mushrooms.
Tevinter seems to be the origins of cupcakes. They historically would use them to poison people.
There are custard connoisseurs across Thedas.
General Notes on lore
Isabela has a drinking game based on the number of enemies one has. The game has killed at least one man.
Krem suggested that Bull and the Chargers use the rice they were paid with to make rice pudding.
Krem seems to hold knowledge of all dishes the Chargers eat.
Varric and The Iron Bull love sweets.
Vivienne eats croissants every morning.
Vivienne is known for dressing blancmange with white chocolate curls and whole jasmine flowers, serving the dish on a black plate.
Wyverns, like phoenix, can be deadly if not prepared right.
Fauna
Ayesleigh Gulabi Goats - Rivain
Cuttlefish - Waters around Antiva
Poussin - I want to note this is usually a term used for a young chicken or spring chicken used in a recipe, but the lore blurb alludes to it being the name of an actual bird.
Prawns - Waters around Antiva
Shrimp - Waters around Antiva
Flora
Bitter Greens - Nevarra
Black Cherry - Orlais
Black Lichen - Orzammar/Deep Roads
Blood Orange - Nevarra

Red Grapes - Unknown origin, but it is a common enough ingredient for Orlesian nobility.
Rhubarb - Ferelden
Sweet Cherry - Orlais
Spinach - Unclear origin
Watercress - Frostbacks in origin potentially
Food Dishes
In the cookbook, it does note that there are multiple varieties across Thedas for certain dishes. I listed the regions given for the recipe provided in the cookbook as they are either "classics" or traditional for that region. The ones with multiple variations that are mentioned, I have marked with a **.
Apple Grenade - Antiva
Bark Bread - suggested alternative to black lichen
Black Lichen Bread - Orzammar, as it is also plainly referred to as "lichen bread"
Blancmange - Orlais
Blood Orange Salad - Nevarra
Couscous Salad - Rivain
Crab Cakes - Kirkwall
Crouton - Unclear, simply mentioned one needs to cook chickpeas to a "crouton-like crispiness."
Crow Feed - Antiva
Eggs ร  la Val Foret - Orlais
Ferelden Farmer's Pie - A term for a type of pie; such as the nug bacon and egg pie.
Fish Pockets - Seheron
Flat Bread - Nevarra
Forest Fruit Cobbler - Dalish
Found Cake - Ferelden
Fried Crab Legs - a substitute version of fried young giant spiders, Orzammar in origin, but substitution created by Devon

Grilled Poussin - Chasind
Gurgut Roast with Lowlander Spices and Mushroom Sauce - Avvar
Hearty Scones - Ferelden
Honey Carrots - Orlais **
Lamprey Cake - Not actually made with lamprey, just themed. Recipe created by Devon.
Lentil Soup - City Elf **
Merrill's Blood Soup - Dalish
Nettle Soup - origins unclear
Nug Bacon and Egg Pie - Ferelden
Paella - Antiva
Pastry Pockets - recipe originates with the Grey Wardens, cookbook notes of the Orlesian Grey Warden variation **
Poison Stings - Unclear, presumably Tevinter as they were Dorian's snack when traveling from Tevinter.
Potato and Leek Soup - Ferelden
Pumpkin Bread - Tevinter
Red Grape Compote - Unknown origin, but it is a common enough in use for Orlesian nobility.
Rice Pudding - Unclear as rice comes from Rivain and Antiva, but Krem supplies the recipe.
Roasted Prawns - a substitute for cave beetles, Orzammar in origin, but substitution created by Devon
Snail and Watercress Salad - Avvar in origins, but created by Devon with the Avvar to make snails more palatable to lowlanders.
Sour Cherries in Cream - Orlais
Spiced Jerky - Dalish **
Strawberry and Rhubarb Cobbler - Ferelden
Stuffed Cabbage - Ferelden
Stuffed Deep Mushrooms - Orzammar
Stuffed Vine Leaves - Tevinter
Sweet and Sour Cabbage Soup - Ferelden
Traviso Energy Balls - Antiva
Tzatziki - Tevinter
Turnip and Mutton Pie - Ferelden

Food Ingredients
Couscous - Rivain

Puff Pastry - Orlais
White Chocolate - Unclear the origins, but is used in Orlesian cuisine.
Whipped Cream - Unclear origins, potentially universal but noted to be used in Orlesian cooking.
Suggested Food
As in these might be eaten or not, it is unclear if the narrator was simply suggesting them out of pure speculation due to the dish's mystery.
Dracolisk
Dragon Urine - Suggested that the drink name may or may not be figurative.
Giant
Additional Notes
I included fried young giant spiders on this list because it is technically different from the roasted giant spider legs we see in the TTRPG adventure Buried Pasts.
Stuffed Vine Leaves may have appeared previously in the comic Deception. However I didn't feel I could make that determination unlike the desserts clearly shown in the comic Magekiller that are easily identified to me.
Quillback was mentioned in Unidentified Meat but isn't included as suggested or speculated food due to it being eaten by Inquisition soldiers in the Western Approach.
Saffron isn't a new spice to Thedas, as it was originally mention in the Last Court. It's origins seem to come from Antiva both due to the recipe and the fact they import most spices from Antiva in Serault.
Roasted turkey was first mentioned in the Dragon Age TTRPG. Thought it is common in the Free Marches, this dish is also popular among the Chasind.
Cupcakes seem to originate from Tevinter, as Cherry Cupcakes have been tied to them both in the cookbook but also the comic Magekiller.
Pumpkin Bread referenced to Tevinter, however we know that other nations such as Ferelden and Orlais, also grow pumpkins. The dish likely originates from Tevinter given the reference of it being used to tempt one to visit the Imperium. But thought it would be worth noting that pumpkins also exist in the south.
Licorice is previously mentioned by Dorian, referencing salted black licorice candy. But it may very well come from Riviain as the Rivaini tea blend has a variation that uses licorice root and they export the tea blend.
Additionally it seems peppermint and oregano also originate in Rivain.
Chocolate is not a new item to Thedas, however it is known to be imported to other nations from the Donnarks and Rivain.

~From the earliest times he was a war god, protector of heroes; fallen warriors joined him in Valhalla. But he was also the great magician among the gods and is associated with runes, knowledge, wisdom, and veterans. He is concidered king of the gods/Aesir, the "All Father", and both trickster and protector of Asgard and Midgard. Though he is the son of two giants, he is Aesir, probably because his grandfather (esentially) was one of the first gods. With his mother decending from Ymir and his his Giant father was decended from Audumbla. -The Nornes carved runes into the wood of the tree Yggdrasil's trunk, to influence the fate of destiny. Odin became envious of their ability -but the runes don't show themselves easily- To prove himself, Odin was pierced to the wood of the great ash tree, where he hung for 9 windy days and nights, refusing any who offered aid. Finally, Odin fell off the tree and into the well below, screaming as he clutched the runes to his chest, and at the end of the 9th night -after teetering on the edge of life and death- he understood the runes.
With this knowledge, he was able to heal, quell grief, make blunt even the sharpest blade, break any felters that may bind him, hold/catch arrows mid-flight, turn poison onto another, protect others from naked flame, quench fury, quiet winds, storms, waves, and the seas, to drive witches and the Nornes mad, too keep friends from harm in battle, to walk and talk with those who have hung, to make a warrior invisible, to know all Aesir and Elves, to make a woman lust and ensure a maiden stays, and finally an ability he would not tell. -At the bottom of the well Odin was told by Mimir that he could drink from its knowledge-giving water, but only with the sacrifice of one of his eyes. His eyes were pale blue and were the color of the sky on a winter's day, when the frost is still on the ground. His eyes could pick out the tiniest bird miles and miles away, across the frozen tundra, if a human or god looked him in the eyes, they could not but feel a kind of awe. But, in the end, he did have two of them. So, he plucked out his eye and the head of his uncle allowed him to drink the water.
Odin instantly saw everything that had and will happen, and though there was good and bad news, he simply laughed with happiness when he saw the joy that would come to him. -He has two ravens; Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory). He sends them out at dawn and they fly all over the world, before returning home at dinner to report back what they had seen -Odin was lonely during his travels and battles so he created Geri (greedy one) and Freki (ravenous one), and they stand by his side and ensure the Aesir king's safety and its said they populated the earth with their offspring -making wolves and dogs- -Loki's eight legged flying horse child -Sleipnir- was given to the king as a gift. It's teeth are inscribed with runes, and it has the ability to gallop through all skies and seas with its many legs, super-strength, speed, durability and endurance.
