A thing Crocodile deals with on the regular after losing his hand is chronic pain.

The weight of the hook exacerbates it, but you won't catch him dead without it because he's too stubborn and paranoid. The only times he takes it off is if he's totally alone in a secure place, and even then ONLY if he's in an unusually high amount of pain. He only started taking the thing off when he slept after nearly gutting himself from tossing and turning his way through some uneasy stress dreams.

On the most excruciating days, he does what needs doing insofar as work and immediately retreats to his quarters with a very strict Do Not Disturb policy in place.

The second he gets there, the hook comes off and the arm goes in a sling, and then he takes out a box of special cigars that he keeps for such unfortunate occasions. There is no tobacco in these cigars.
